Hard class, many essays, complicated essay questions
As a teacher he trys to help u learn as much as possible but he expect alot. He's not hard because he'll do his best to motify his test if the test is hard. He wants you to learn as well as pass his class. I think he is good just keep up with the reading
boring, hard and not useful teacher does'nt help or seem to care. Avoid this class and tell your friends.
He is a great teacher with a great personality. this class is for you if your up for a HARD challenge.
hard and boring avoid if possible
GREAT TEACHER--UNDERSTANDS MINORITY CONCERNS AND ISSUES. yOU CAN TRUST HIM.
The reason he is hard is some people can't keep up with his reading. But i passed with an A and I only study two weeks befor each test. I want to class every day and his lectures are helpful.GET in a GROUP, Split the work
If your trying to take History 320, i'd as an experienced student i RECOMMEND you guys NOT take this class. He is a hard grader and so much work you have to get into lecture groups to get everything done it time.
Boring, just reads from the book, if taking his class, no need to show up, just read the book, hard questions on essay, Won't be helpful. Avoid taking a risk. do not take chances with your grades.
TAKE ANOTHER HISTORY TEACHER IF POSSIBLE
Very bad teacher. You have a chance if a minority he cares about them but still not learn anything. Look somewhere else than this class.
awful teacher. take anyoneelse he cant teach and knows nothing except what he reads from book.
great teacher. animated, knowledgeable, and amusing. liked him, his stories, and his style. i learned a lot and he is a great guy! my favorite teacher at sac city! work's not too hard, jeeze, he even lets you use notes on tests! grow up, it's colleg
couple of words for u guys other : Do Not Take this Class! Take another professor!!! Horrible!!
This teacher has good lectures that are good for the essay parts of the test but you have to read or scan throught the book to be able to do in class test. If your a average student this class shouldn't be that hard. He gives extra credit if needed.

This is one of the first classes i took at city. Compare to my other classes this teacher was easy. He really works with students who want to pass. Flexible and you learn. And if you can read you'll get an A. Gave extra credit what more do u want.
i think Mr. Henningburg is awesome, he is really nice and lectures whatever will be the essay questions. All the id's are in the books and he gives you soo much extra credit on the tests. He is reallu understanding and outgoing, a great teacher.
I felt that prof. Henningburg, was the best history teacher I've had. He is very easy when it comes to grading, and the class is very interesting. If it were my first time taking this class, I would definitely take it with him!
He is a great teacher! He is funny, smart & helpful. He worked w/ me so much on turning in stuff late. I was having a tough time outside of class and he really cared & worked w/ me 2 pass. I can't believe those other people below said all that stuff! They are hella bitter! Dont listen 2 them. The class isn't hard, just what u make it! He is cute 2
He's strict but fair, be ready to work in this class. Show up on time! He a great teacher.
Great Teacher

great teacher, not much work, just pay attention!!!

The class is boring. He lectures like he's giving a sermon. He literally speaks throughout the entire period. There's not that many assignments, which is bad if you don't do well on the tests. The tests are extremely hard. You only get 1 1/2 hours to complete 3 essay questions and 5-7 identity questions. Almost everyone failed the test each time.
Heningburg is an outstanding prof! There's no sugarcoating history in his class,he tells it like it is,some people have a hard time hearing the truth. His exams are in depth, but he allows you a full page of notes.I got an A in both of his classes. If you can't handle his class you won't make it in the university. Work in a group for the id q's!
He is a great teacher. The test are easy as long as u take good cheat sheets. Many people used 3 point font to fit all their infomation. He is very helpful. Even tho his class is a little boring, he does let us out early most of the time.
Professor Heningbury is a AWESOME teacher. He really knows his history. He is very clear, specifc at what he requires. He is also very funny. The class isn't easy but you will enjoy the class and learn a lot of history that you had no idea about. I truly suggest that you take his classes.
He is a great teacher. He gives you a lot of lecturing. The exams a very hard, even with cheat notes.
My god, I can't believe some people think his class is hard. He is one of the most easiest and interesting professor I ever had and heard of. The exams r easy as cake only if u take good cheat notes. I mean, just do the IDs and used 3 font and your done! U dont even need to think much on the exam. used what u got on ur CHeat sheet! Easy A!
Excellent Professor with a heart of gold!!!!!
While you do get a study guide cheat sheet, it's way too much work. There's about 50 ID's and he only picks 7 and you only answer 5. Same with the essay, he gives you 10 possible but only picks 2 and you only answer 1. Plus, he hardly lectures what's on the test. He spent the 1st 2 months exclusively talking about slavery. Pick someone else.
I agree. You may do great on the exams if you think you can go over the 50 identifications and 10 essay questions from the study guide in less then a week, especially if you're a full-time student. Many of them are hard to find, especially the "why" answer for each of them. And none of them are covered on lectures. Its a redicilous amount of work.
After reading all the comments; I saw a common factor, those who were negative COULD BARELY TYPE A COMPLETE SENTENCE. He is a great prof. I had him for both 320 & 321, received an A & A+, & I enjoyed his lectures. He is interesting, you learn alot & you don't have to memorize because he let's you use an answer card. Come on, how hard could it be?
He's an awesome teacher. Sometimes lecture can be a bit boring, but grades very easy. He allows a cheat sheet for each exam, so it's very hard to not get a good grade. He's approachable and understanding. I would take him again. He assigns a lot of reading and then only 1 paper is due for the whole semester. So, just keep up on your reading,
i can't believe people are leaving bad comments on this teacher.... he is so easy. he lets u use a cheat sheet so i don't understand how people think he's hard ... i got an easy A by just doing my cheat sheet... TAKE HIM...
Excellent teacher, I enjoyed learning from him.
Professor Heninburg is an excellent professor. I had him for both Hist. 320 & 321 & received an A+ in both courses. His classes are not easy but I'm not in college for easy A's, I want to be challenged. I'm transfering to the University of California & his courses are great prep work for what the U.C. requires.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER, HE CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS.I'VE BEEN A COLLEGE STUDENT FOR FIVE YEARS AND THERE ARE VERY FEW TEACHERS THAT YOU CAN TRUELY SAY THAT ABOUT.TRUST ME, TAKE THIS CLASS INSTEAD OF BORING U.S HISTORY YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
A do it yourself class that takes six textbooks. Not even close to being a good.
Great course to take for UC preparation! Closest a student can get to a UC class! Challenging yet very informative! Prof. is down to earth.
YES THE CLASS REQUIRES WORK BUT HE IS THE BEST COLLEGE PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE HIS CLASS BECAUSE HE IS HELPFUL AND HE LOVES HIS JOB. YOU HAVE TO BE A FOOL TO FAIL THIS CLASS
This class was boring. Some discussions were good but he let people say stuff that was offensive. He even said stuff offensive a couple of times. His jokes are not funny and I did not really learn anything. Easy grade take only if you must.I did not like it at all, I will not take any of his other classes.
I LOVED HIS CLASS.....A VERY EASY A! HE REALLY WANTS YOU TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT HISTORY. THIS PROFESSOR IS BY FAR ONE OF MY FAVORITE PREOFESSORS AND I CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE HIS NEXT CLASS.....!
Absolutely grew to love this professor!! His lectures can get kind of lengthy and dull if you're not into History. If u don't act a fool, you'll get along just fine. Down to earth. He grades really easy on the essay exams and even gave us an optional final if we wanted!
By far one of the best professors I had in CC. His exams are exactly like some of the ones I now have at Berkeley. Excellent prep for the UC if you plan to transfer. I highly suggest getting into groups of 4 or 5 and splitting up the ID q's for the exams. Use the opportunity to learn from him & take it w/ you into the UC. You will be glad you did!
Professor Heningburg is the best professor I've ever had! He is very helpful and understanding. Very down to earth. Just come to class and do not be disrespectful and you'll do just fine.
I had prof H. for hist 320 & 321 back to back. You'll get the most out of class, & what will be in the exams by coming to class. Lots of reading, so be on top of it. Book use is important for exams, don't stress by reading evryday. He is very down to earth; loves his people, but wants us to be pushed to unstrd where we come from. Do the book report
i had 3 different history classes with him. he's insightful, helpful and a sweet man. easy A
Wonderful God fearing man. Great instructor. He wants everyone to succeed.
I took Prof. H 320&321 class in the SAME semester! SO MUCH READING!! But he asks no more of you then what you as a college student should be able to handle. I learned SO much. He's VERY smart & helpful! He HONESTLY wants his students to do well & doesnt show up just for a paycheck. Caution: DON'T USE WIKIPEADIA for your ID's! He'll know!
I've taken every subject he teaches and couldn't possibly understand how anyone with half a brain could find them boring. He's makes sure you understand the subject and can relate what you've learned to everyday life.
Prof H is awesome. This class was structured a little crazy, and some of the in class things we did help very little with the exam, but still was helpful. I actually miss at least 40% of the class and got an A! Just read the book.
I taken this teacher twice he is a nice person but is extremely hard he requires 5 books for his class! He wrote 2 books, however he is cocky he expect you to read and know everything. I recommend this teacher if your ONLY partime taking one class. The class times should be longer bc he cover 1865 to 1960's..
He is HARD DO NOT TAKE HIM YOU WILL DROP THE COURSE!!!
Heninberg is awesome! It took me a few weeks to warm up to him and his teaching style, but now I miss his class a ton!
I LOVE MR. HENINGBURG! I have nothing but great things to say about this man and his class; anyone who doesnt is a close minded individual: honestly. It's all about reading and listening. The only thing I wish were different was how much we used the text books IN CLASS. They are waaaay too expensive, and werent used enough (if at all) for lectures.
Very easy class if you do the things on the syllabus. This professor does not remind you to read the books and to do the online assignments. But if you do not do it, you will not pass the class. There are 5 books for this class. 2 of them are $150 each. 3 of them are around $20 each. You also need an only account.
He's AWESOME, the class is so easy, all you have to do is take tests on coursecompass, which you can buy for $12 online instead of buying the book with the indian guy on it, which costs like $100. For his exams you can use a 4x6 index card. Study Guide is also very helpful because it's exactly like the test. I recommend not buying the reading book.
Heninburg is a very thorough, insightful and approachable. The problem is that he regularly uses words that most don't know. Extremely educated. His style and his book list are very intimidating. tht readings are rediculous. He requires four books(about $300). I recomend him if and only if you aren't scared of a little work. He's tough but worth it
He is a hard teacher but if you just do the work, you will pass. I got a A- and I hate history!! He's cool to me.
He is by no means an easy A...although I got an A he makes you work for it... but you are in college so what do u expect. hes easy to talk to and works with you to help you get a good grade
This is the person you want to learn history from. He keeps his lectures interesting and funny. The homework he gives is easy, all you have to do is follow his directions. He has an open door policy for help and he loves to be entertained by his students.
Very good teacher, good person to learn history from, he is clear on what he expects out of you. you will be writing papers quite a bit in his class. but it is worth it. make sure you do the required reading, if not you will fall behind in class. be prepared to read a lot, take notes, and write papers. overall he is funny, humorous.
He is a great professor with alot of knowledge. He doesn't mind answering the hard questions and has an open door policy.
Simply absurd. He is a shock teacher, meaning he uses "crazy" facts to keep his students interested;yet you do not learn anything. There is no need to take this teacher. Funny?Sure. Friendly?Sure.Worth your time?No way!If you do take his course,do not buy the books.Just purchase the Course Compass key code, the books come with it. $300+ vs $25.
It's very easy to get an A because his tests are mostly based on his lectures. DO NOT buy the books. They're a waste of money and he NEVER uses the TWO textbooks (which each are worth $100). He's nice, but his teaching lacks. He's was very far behind and in the last 3 weeks we had to cram so much information because of him.
Class is easy if you attend and take notes. Minimal usage of books, so just purchase course compass with the e book in lieu of the hard back editions. He also requires a book that he wrote - just copy the required texts in the library. Interesting guy, interesting stories, very laid back.
he was a great instructor very funny and humorous. but he was a bit to political. he used too many big words and tried to tell jokes that wernt always funny. he was real laid back though. but he could have been way more clearer when it came down to explaining things. probably would have passed then.
Great Teacher! Has an open door policy so students can go talk to him during office hours. His tests are very simple as long as you attend lecture and take good notes. I honestly just read over my class notes and got As on both tests. Also has a research paper and a final. No homework but online quizes which you can retake until you get them right.
He was consistent with his expectations of students... study hard and learn your material, show up everyday, prepared, be proactive, and you'll pass. Don't do these things, and you'll be writing a bad review! Could've been a lot harder. He is fair, and honest, and I appreciate his class.
This class actually convinced me to become a history major. Prof. Heningburg is extremely kind, accessible as a person and clear in in his lectures. It is extremely important to take copious notes. There is no homework, only a paper and exams.I have taken two of his classes and aced both of them.He teaches through lecture, film, and group discussion.
He's a very strong professor, however, he flirts with academic usury by having a $250 book list (one he published himself) plus, if you do not buy the book new, you must buy an online portal for $50 (quite similar - d2l). I would say his teaching strengths are negated equally by his administrative weaknesses. This is a 4.0 student handing out a 2.0
He's very nice&funny. The online quizes are extremely easy. You have A LOT of books to read&you will not do good without them. A lot of the material on the tests come from the books. His tests are extremely dfficult&very unorganized since you have so many books to read at once. His lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Pretty difficult tbh
He's very funny but his lectures were very long and boring and had nothing to do with barely anything on the tests. The study guides only consist of 4-6 questions which isn't even half of what's on the actual tests. So many books to read at once and you have a very long, boring paper to write. I liked him but NOT his teaching.
Great person. if you copy down everything he lectures about you'll get a good grade. Plus thheres no hw! Very passionate about his teaching
This professor is a great teacher he comes with a lot of knowledge so get your game right.. He is very passionate and believe in his students... He will go the extra mile for you if you go the extra mile for yourself.. Pay attention, take notes, 2 tests,1 final, and paper
great teacher !! good sense of humor !! overall great class !!very informational and interesting ! Learned so much!!!so as long as you put in effort, take notes , and study .. easy A
he makes the class very fun and is very humorous his tests are very easy they are mostly based on the lectures in class.
A good teacher who understands what he is talking about and he enjoys talking about it. Don't let him intimidate you (shouldn't really even be intimidated). Do the work ahead when given. It'll help not stress you a lot.
Prof. Heningberg is a great guy, but lacks as a professor. I don't understand the structure nor the grading for his class and I think he makes it more complicated than needed. He makes you buy WAY too many textbooks and the study guides for his texts are horrible and don't prepare you at all.
Great Professor!!! Of all the hard jobs around, one of the hardest is being a good teacher, you are the best.
He is very good with explaining the material but makes this class more complicated than it needs to be. He has a set of online quizzes which are very hard to get a good grade on. They are hard to keep up with because of all the reading that is required in this class. He is also unclear about the term paper.
Was a great topic. The class was large and interested for a bit too. The problem came after the test. His grading rubric is terrible. He grades the three test you spend 90% of the semester talking about as only 10% each. That leaves, 35%- final. 30%- paper on a book that the entire class reads. Lastly there is a 5% meet and greet professor time.
If your absnt u have to get the notes from someone else his lectures are preaches brng a cmputer to type bcus there are power points with pictures and in da begining of class he will say nthing frm da book has any thing to do with wat i say bt he is only sumerizng da books tht he wrte him self has 100 commas n he asind 5pg ppr wt 3 sntnces as rubic
This was the best class and professor I've taken in a long time. His class was really eye opening and really made you think about life and how other culture are. This class was really easy there is a lot a reading but really straight forward. He gives you the essay prompts ahead of time to study and prepare for the test. Very helpfully.
I had a love hate relationship with Professor Henningburg. Sometimes he can be nice. I can't say that I like his version of history in this class. He comes off as only wanting you to participate in the discussions if you agree with him or don't take away his shine. You can pass this class though, it's not too hard.
Prof. Heningburg is one of the most caring professors at SCC! He's a fair grader and even though he lectures every class, they're so interesting so you wont have to worry about nodding out. He says that he'll drop you after two absences, but he won't as long as you just keep him informed. The books aren't mandatory just hit the library a few times
Very informative class. follow syllabus and you will succeed.
Hands down to professor Heningburg! He's very passionate about the subject that he teaches. Make sure that your attend class because he will drop you. There are several reading assignments and test come straight from the book. You have weekly news articles to turn in and it's suggested to share in class. If you come to class you can get an A!!!
Come to class, participate(!!) and ask questions during lecture, use the powerpoints and study guides for exams, and do the extra credit.. There is no good reason NOT to get an A in this class. He explains well, and is super passionate about his teaching and students. The books are dull but important for understanding context.
Enjoyed this class! As long as you take notes during lectures from his powerpoints and do your study guides, you should do well in this class. Only a couple papers due doing the semester but theyre super easy to complete. He is very passionate and will make class interesting!
This class couldve been so much more interesting and informative if I took it with a different professor.... Keith is super blase about this class and creates the vibe that he doesnt care, which runs off greatly on everyone. Attendance from students is outrageously; he takes attendance but doesnt really care it seems. Not intersectional at all
Does that make sense everybody? Is everyone with me on that?
Professor Heningburg was an absolute professor to take for his history class, ethnic studies, and any other class he is teaching. I like his learning style, only had 2 exams and that includes the final. He does have office hours and is there for his students as well. He wants the best and just do the work and reading and you should pass the class.
His lessons are straight to the point, interesting, and detailed. He understands the material so well that he easily answer all the classes questions with greater insight. He has clear grading criteria, will always help you before/after class in his office or in the classroom and is very understanding. I want to take another one of his classes!
Solid teacher, but didn't do a good job communicating outside of class. I took the class spring 2020 and he kinda went MIA after we switched online. His tests where very straightforward and mostly true false. But the major of the questions came from the reading.
This class is definitely intense, since it focuses on such a painful era in African-American history. Heningburg is the perfect professor for this course though. You can tell he's an expert, and he simultaneously commands respect while also being hilarious. Get ready to write very in-depth essays. Also, he allows note cards on the exams, thank God!
Very lecture oriented, be prepared to take a lot of notes and pay attention through the whole class time. Most of the answers on the tests are in the lecture notes, tests are all true and false questions. The grade for the class is based off tests and essays so it is very important to do well on the tests.
Don't buy the book. It was almost 300 and I never used it. He wrote the book, but what you need is with digital resource(45 for two books) and the modules. Easy class, but be prepared to read alot of chapters, watch hour long lectures or the slides of the lecture, and take test that are lengthy. Really find the time to study if you want to pass.
Professor Heningburg gives extra credit opportunities, his syllabi is also clear and concise of the overall semester.
Very easy class! the assignments were very simple and he provides good feedback
I am missing out on the perspective I sought this class for in the textbook and assignments for this class. Heavy reading and watching 3.5+ hours weekly. Low interaction, wish we covered more history from the perspective of the marginalized groups instead of another overview of the European/American side. I wish he showed his obvious passion more.
Very communicative and helpful whenever I had questions. There is a lot of information in this class and you need to read to do well. The paper was easy and the Tests are mainly True or False questions. Do your inquizitive assignments they're helpful and quick. A lot of info, if this class was in person I definitely would've struggled a little.
Knowledgeable, concise, passionate, & insightful professor; I learned a lot. This course requires commitment & time management to do the work properly, especially being a full-timer. Listen carefully to the lectures & take copious notes; they come in handy with the weekly study guides to prep for exams. Be ready for discomfort & real hard truths.
If you want to learn about history, especially events related to Black history, take this class. This professor is the real deal; no sugarcoating the facts. I had several laughs listening to his lectures, pay attention, take copious notes, complete the readings, and the weekly Inquizative, along with time management, and you'll do fine.
I enjoyed this history class and the workload was fair. Two textbooks, two Quizlet quizzes a week, three exams, and one paper. No discussion boards! I wish his lectures were a little more "to the point" but otherwise I would 100% take this class again.
