This professor inspired me to pursue my degree in Mathematics. He is knowledegable and has not forgotten what it means to be a beginning math student. His office was always open. His love for math is obvious. Challenging, but rewarding.

Awesome teacher. loves to teach the subject and helpful during his office hours. lectures helped a lot. quizzes are based on the hw. does not collect hw. 6 quizzes, 3 tests and one final. makes calculus interesting.

A really nice guy, and likes what he does. he puts everything in simple terms. quizes are all homework problems so make sure u know how to do the hardest ones. doesn't always have time to go over all homework questions

if you go to class and do the hw everyday, you'll be fine. the only problem is that he's an ass when it comes to asking questions. everytime i went to office hours i came out feeling like a dumb ass, but he is willing to help if u ask.

i took him for calc and it was an extremely hard class but thats only expected. he is not easy but he is very helpful and pretty clear on his explainations.

Im bad at math. Hilmer is hard,but if you do your homework and ask questions you will do fine.All the quizes are the same questions that were in the homework.Word of advice,Put a star next to the questions you have trouble with and ask about it the next day,or keep doing the problem till you get it.

Well when i took his class i went to class every time class was held- no exaggerating- studied hours for each test, did all the homework and literally tried my best and when he emailed me telling me my grade he said i was lucky that I got a "C" because I was 5 points away from getting a "D". Hard!!!

Wow. Don't know why the bad ratings. I scored 100% on the 2nd and 3rd tests. It didn't seem too difficult to me if you work hard and make an effort. Other than that, he's a really helpful, personable guy who tries to make sure you do well. Don't avoid him just because of these ratings!

the people giving bad ratings here must really be idiots. i was horrid at math when i began his class, and all i did was a reasonable amount of homework and asked questions about what i didnt get, and practiced for the test, i've got an A. hes great at explaining and making sure you understand.

I took this class over the summer and i reccomend it to anyone else. Professor Hilmer is a great teacher,a wonderful man, and is very approachable. If you go to class everyday (and do so because he offers extra credit), do the homework, and make sure you know what your doing, you will do fine. I got an A and i think anyone else can too!

The best math teacher in Moorpark. He is very good. You need to do the homework evey day, understand it and bring questions to class otherwise you'll fall behind.

If math is your thing, will be very easy. Has a few tests, cumulative final, and several quizzes. Assigned homework but not collected or graded, just goes over questions regarding HW in class. He's not nearly as cruel as the other reviews say. Also doesn't take attendance.

I was stumped when it came to Calculus until this guy was my teacher. May not be the funnest or even easiest but he explains the material very well, is never condesending, and is always making sure the entire class is up to par. The tests were hard but not impossible and all the questions are from your homework.

Teacher explains everything clearly and and gives you bunch of homework that he quizzez you on every monday but the questions on the quiz are EXACTLY the same as certain hw problems.. so if you do the hw you get easy points.. Tests are like the quizzez but longer and definitions included. Hilmer made me understand Calc whole lot better and nice guy

I really enjoyed this professor. I hadn't had a math class in years, but he explained everything very clearly and I was able to pick it right back up again. Nice guy and always willing to help. Also gave extra credit which help put my mind at ease.

I'm shocked at these students' comments. Hilmer is the best math professor I've had. He is really clear, he tells you what will be on the exam, there really aren't any surprises. Just do the homework and you will be fine. The tests aren't that difficult. Plus, he's a very nice guy. I'm getting an A, and I just cram a few days before the exams.

Pretty much AMAZING teacher. Great at explaining. If you have a REALLY hard time with math you MIGHT consider a different teacher. Tests are hard and it's not a DUH-zone-out class. You have to actually work HARD to get a good grade- you have to earn it. But if you really wanna learn- TAKE HILMER! Wished he had taught my other math class! :)

Hilmer is amazing! He is crystal clear about everything; he even rewrites things on the board so that there's NO confusion. He basically tells everyone what the test questions are, so there's no excuse for not doing well. Most importantly, he knows his math! It is so refreshing to have a teacher who can answer almost any question raised in class.

Alot of students will probably rate professor Hilmer low because of the difficulty level involved. Well it is a difficult class, some say the hardest. But if you are going to take it, take it from him. He makes himself very open for asking assistance, instruction is descriptive and clear, and expectations are concrete. A great teacher!

Summer School. He's tests are a little bit more challenging than the ones you learned in class, but it is not impossible. He's A's are from 100%-85% and B's are from 85%-75% and on n on. So I got an A. He explains things well and repeats things a lot so it helps you remember things faster. I really liked hilmer overall.

Hilmer was amazing. The class was only 4 weeks long, and I never felt overwhelmed. I got sick and missed some class and I was able to catch myself up very easily. His grading makes it easier to do well. TAKE HIM DURING THE SUMMER.

The homework isn't assigned, but if you do it, you'll do fine on the quizzes & exams. I didn't understand math, until I took this class!

first off, i am not a math person. he is extremely friendly and loves to teach. do the homework, it's easy to just not do it, it will bite you in the end though. try not to miss class either, he'll give "surprise" quizzes if multiple people leave. he doesn't give too much time during class to answer questions. he is available if you need help.

Very nice teacher. Very helpful, either during class or after. He doesn't make homework mandatory, but it helps ALOT if you do it. Quizes are made up from the homework. Some extra credit too. Would deffin. take him again.

Hilmer was nice to have. Extremely clear and he's there to help you. He wants you to do well. You just need to put in the effort. DO THE HW. It's alot, but it's necessary practice since it is Calc. Still a nice guy, considering I had him 7AM...my mistake though...

I don't know what these people are talking about. This guy's friendly, approachable, and he's willing to spend as long as you need explaining something if you need help with it. Take him! Very good teacher!

Math is about "doing the work" whatever you put into a class, you get out. If you do the homework, and study (which he tells you about on day one) then the tests are pretty easy (because you have studied!) he doesn't try to trick you, it's pretty straight forward. Do the work, and get an A. The below two comments aren't justified. Great Teacher.

His method teaching is very clear and understandable. if you just do the hw and attend the class there's no way you would not get an A. very nice and friendly, always helps you out to make u understand the material, not boring at all and always motivates you.

This guy was very helpful! His teachings were very clear and if you had trouble with a problem, he'd explain the whole thing. Homework wasn't mandatory BUT it will help you greatly. Plus he has homework quizzes that come straight from your homework! Crazy. I highly recommend this class. I took him for Intermediate Algebra.

I must say his way of teaching worked great for me. He does jump straight into problems often, but he works them out step by step. It keeps you on your feet. He is more fair and thoughtful than most math professors I've seen. A good communicator, in touch with what the typical student knows and needs help with. A good guide through a hard subject.

very good teacher!!! cares about students. very clear about his expectations. he makes math make sense, and i struggle greatly with math. go to his office during office hours and he will be very patient and helpful. a reasonable grader. highly recommended!!

Very good teacher, but only take him if you're willing to work. It's hard if you're not good at math or don't get things quickly, but I just did the homework, studied for tests for about 15 minutes, and got an easy A. Very helpful and willing to re-explain things if you have questions.

Loved this class! He would be very helpful when asking a question if it was a good question.. reviewed often and graded very leniantly on tests.. little extra credit offered, and doesnt drop test scores, but if you actually study then it's super easy to get an A.. 85 was an A.. would definitely take another class with him

Mr. H was always willing to take the extra time with concepts I was struggling with, and I hadn't taken algebra since Clinton was in office. I told him I was an idiot when it came to math, he said no problem we'll make sure I get out w my A. Awesome guy, very intelligent and just a pleasure to be in his class. Not for lazy students

Taken him for 3 courses. Overall grade is flexible. Tests are semi-hard. Answered every question I had in full detail (multiple times if necessary/never felt stupid). Always available. Very thorough on material. HW is NOT a must but DO it. Provides EC. My fave math teacher. I'd take him for a 4th course if his schedule didn't conflict with mine.

I took this class and was fully surprised with the difficulty of the material, but Hilmer got us all through it. You have to pay attention in class, and stay 'til the end because he'll give "rewards quizzes" sometimes just for some extra points. I got an A, but I had to work for it, so study hard and you'll do well. A = 85%

Best math teacher I have had since Middle School. Have never gotten a grade higher than a C in Math before this semester. Recommend to anyone..

I could tell he really knows the material all the way through. He is also very clear in his explainations, going step by step through each problem. He is also really encouraging. Not a class for lazy students - his students should be committed upon entering the classroom to put in many hours of study each week.

He is a nice guy, just really tough. If your on top of your stuff youll do good though. Test or quiz every week.

Great Professor. I was worried about taking M03 but Professor Hilmer's teaching style and help made it possible for me to do well. It wasn't easy. I had to work hard. Do the homework. Weekly quizes based on it. Extra credit will really help your grade so Do It! very fair grader, wants you to do well. I would definately take him again.

He moves pretty fast and doesn't offer much time for questions. He is a very fair test writer and grader… but doesn't have fully developed listening skills.

I liked Hilmer. Quizzes are BOOK PROBLEMS, no houdini tricks there. Tests are like the review questions or problems in the #20-40 range, kinda tricky but not impossible if you studied. Calc 2 is hard in general so be prepared to put in the time. He's old but is always there to help you.

Great teacher and funniest guy I've ever met! Calc is hard but he does a great job on making it as understandable as possible. You NEED the book to study and you NEED to do the homework or you will fail! His quizzes are homework questions and are very fair. His tests are also very fair and have no hidden tricks in them. Loved his class!
