Very difficult class. Hardest statistics teacher in PCC. But he's a really cool guy. Helps out a lot. Gives extra credit. Tells entertaining stories. TIP: study lecture material before class starts from the book...it helps!
nice and funny teacher
This is the worst teacher at PCC. He is unreasonable and favors students with the same religious and polotical views as him. If you disagree with him keep it to yourself. He cannot lecture and routinely accused me of cheating. If you can avoid him,do.
if you do the homework, you'll do well in the class. practice tests are VERY VERY similar to actual tests. lectures are a bit boring at times tho, but mostly informative.
Awsome teacher, my favorite class this semster even though I HATE math. He's not afriad to admit mistakes and you learn alot through him
he is nice. He shares his office with Mr. Schubert, my math 5B teacher. of cos Mr. Oberlander is nicer than Schubert. maybe the work load is a little bit too much, but just regular hw, and the hw is due on the test day. so i think he's totally fine.
Supportive of women in most aspects of life. Other than that, he explains Stats very thoroughly. Homework is a work-load, but just stay on top of the game, and you should do well. Test grading is hard, though -- if you miss a number, you lose a lot.
He's a very nice teacher, full of humorous and touch. His class is very Helpfull and knowlegable. i think he's the best choice for students who want to take Statistic class.
Oberlander is not a great lecturer but he is definitely really easy! Open book tests, and he practically gives you a list of what's gonna be on the test the day before. He's also really really nice!
Wonderful statistics teacher! I had a hard time with other teachers and the material, statistics was made easy and was brought to life in his class. Great lectures, high energy and insightful. Highly recommended!!
Disorganized, not always able to answer questions, unfamiliar w/ req'd calculators, spent 50% of lectures on personal politics/religion (both extreme right). Did not find lectures helpful, had to learn 80-90% from the book.
He is a good teacher. Gives open book tests. Alot of homework but if you do all your h.w you'll do good on the tests. YOU MUST HAVE A TI-83 Calc makes the tests alot easier. but otherwise he's a good teacher.
doesn't know how to teach or lecture...makes up for his faults by being extra nice and giving open book tests, if you get annoyed real easily stay away from him
He's SUCH a sweet man, and he's a great teacher. he doesn't dwell too much on lectures, he goes pretty fast, because the tests are open book. Each question on tests is worth a LOT of points, though, so you have to be pretty thorough.
if you want to self-teach yourself, i say take this class. didn't learn a damn thing. never explained anything. he automatically expected you to know the material because he already does. DO NOT TAKE!
he spent half the class preaching about how this country deserved 9-11 to happen because of all the abortions that occur. lunatic conservative.
WAY TOO EASY!! OPEN BOOK TESTS!! HW is not even important. Take his class if you want an easy A. However, he is a very devout Christian, it was very annoying since not all of us are religious. Also a fan of the IDIOT bush. Bad teacher, but the easiest.
Do not take!
a nice teacher, tests are easy but exam could be difficult. got a B because i really hate numerals. but he doesn't teach much, we were always on our own... take him only if you're smart enough to understand stat
he'z overall a great teacher, very clear and sumtimes funny.he takes attendence late so you can be a lil late.HW doesn't matter much either.but the tests could be hard sumtimes.you could pass da class easily but to get an A maybe you needa work harder.
Overall, a good teacher. Compared to other STAT teachers he might be better because he allows the book and TI-83 calculator on exams. He exams can be tough but if you do all the homework you will do fine. He is die hard republican who loves bush.
he doesn't teach.if you take his class you're on your own.be prepared to teach yourself!!! he spends way too much time talking about his personal life, and things that don't apply to statistics.he is a really nice person tho, and his tests are open book.and you get to use ur TI-83.you've been warned
He IS NICE, but SELF taught! If put under pressure or intimidated a bit he will not explain nearly as clearly. I think he is a mourning person, b/c when I went to the 9:40 class everyone understood, but NOT the 11:00. Tests=kinda hard b/c he doesn't teach, so it(stats) is hard to understand.
Good teacher who genuinle cares about students. An A or B is definitely possible if you put in the time. I'm bad at math and did well. He let's students use books in class which is a huge plus. I highly recommend him. Hint: got to class every day. attendance counts!!!
he is a genuinly nice man. he helped me to pass the class when i didn't think i would. plus, he loves JC!
He's a genuinely amiable professor. He makes himself available to any questions. He's often criticized for talking about his personal life and his ideologies, but that is what makes him a good teacher, he proves that he can relate with his students. Study, pay attention, and be on time!
He is a great teacher! In order to have success im his class what you need to do is learn to master the T1-83 calculator functions. The majority of the probability problems you could do them on the calculator if you no what you are doing, so pay attention on how to use the calculator and uwill get A
Stats is nothing like math. He gives you a great review and basically tells you whats going to be on the tests. He is pretty easy going and likes to teach.
He was a great teacher. He gives you practice tests and tells you the questions that are going to be on the test. He even lets you use your book for the test. He tells all the calculator functions to do the problems. He is the best math teacher I've ever had. Highly recommended.
I wanted to avoid Algebra, and it was a blessing! Open book tests after the first, including the final. Very respectful and understanding real-life problems.
Oberlander is GREAT! You don't get more help then he gives. Practice tests that mirror the actual tests, and he really does give you the questions for the tests! Be on time, he's a stickler for it. If you can't remember something on the test, just ask! His stories are really interesting! I lovetohea
He is a nice person. But his way of teaching sucks! He mumbles way too much. He moves too fast. And he reads straight out of the book. If you don't know anything about Stats don't take him, he'll just confuse you!
Even though he tries hard, prejudice still comes through. Has an evil streak if questioned or put on the spot. Needs to be updated on calculator technology. Incessantly breaks into morality anecdotes frequently unrelated to topic.
This is a professor who you don't want to mess with. He looks and acts like Mr. Rogers, but in reality, this guy was in MARINE FORCE RECON in the Nam with 250 confirmed kills. Don't let this deter you from taking this class though-- unless you're a VC!
Mr. Oberlander's a great person, but not necessarily a great teacher. It's tough material to grasp, so be prepared to spend lots of time on your own to do all the homework and do well on the tests. Even though they are open book, they are tough.
OM, hes handsome, has a penetrating stare, funny, sarcastic. He subed for Chan, & wht a difference. He is animated, interacts w/the class, asks if anyone has QS, very clear and precise, actually gets up and walks around. Can try to influence pple political and morally; by his comments on abortion, medi
He really is a nice person, will help if u ask, but not a good teacher AT ALL!He sometimes assumes u know the material,he doesn't work on examples, reads straight from the book, & if u can't keep up when he tells u how to use the calc, too bad!Expect to see urslf in tutoring 24/7 if u take this clas
He expects us to use expensive calculators and then teaches how to do everything by hand.Reads straight out of the book and is not very clear. He gets side tracked on other stories.Very irrelevant. His tests are no where close to the study guides that he gives. He gets confused often ;sometimes he dosent even know if he doe the problems correctly.
HE'S A GREAT GUY, ALMOST LIKE A FATHER-FIGURE B/C OF THE WAY HE CONSTANTLY TALKS ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE. BUT HE REALLY IS VERY HELPFUL N CLEAR ON EVERYTHING, N FAIR 2. TAKE HIM N U'LL HAVE A BLAST! BUT IF U PREFER MORE STRUCtURE HE MIGHT NOT B D RIGHT GUY 4 U. ;-)
This teacher has control issues. You lose points for being 2mnts. late to class. You lose points if you are absent. He is unclear of the answers, asking students for solutions, be prepared to get tutored for this class.
He doesn't seem to know the material well himself. He rushed through the book just to give us time to review for the final at the end. The review sucked and the final was even worse! All semester he was more interested in teaching morality than statistics . If you still decide to take him, get tutoring early & often - you'll need it.
If you can't get a C with Oberlander, you're a moron. He lets you know what will/won't be on the test. He shows you how to use the calculator as a primary option. All his exams are OPEN BOOK. I missed about half of the classes and got a B because his final was so easy. Stat isn't an easy subject, but Oberlander makes it as easy as it's going to be.
All tests are open book. He lets you know what will be on the test and goes over examples the day before. A bit of homework but he gives you all the answers prior. He does an excelent job at expalianing the basics. If you have to take upper division Stat classes, Take Oberlander and you'll be well prepared for the future.
He is helpful.Give sample tests before every test.open book tests. he teaches concepts instead of memorizing formula, which makes stat easier. Pace is fast.he finish the material 2 weeks before semester ends. But you have plenty of time preparing the final.
his class is easy..open book tests and tells you exactly what's on the test. Goes over problems to review and makes sure u understand. I got an A in the class without struggling too much. Just do the hw, pay attention n ull do great
passive-aggressive; embarrasses people in front of the class rather than speaking in private; controlling; arrogant
easy teacher!! open book tests!! stories about his life.....final was easy as pie!
Here is a prime example of an Instructor with a degree. Mr. Oberlander is not a teacher for the statistic arena, he lack the passion to teach. Nice man, but he's in the wrong field and he's cheating the students out of a great education.
great guy, easy tests, hard course, but what stats class isn't? Don't expect to understand probabilities.
i learn nothing in his class, but the test is easy - open book test. he care the attendate very much, 10% from the total grade.
He mumbles way too much and goes way too fast when explaining the material. Hes a nice man, but I wouldnt recommend him a as a stats teacher.
He doesn't teach the material at all, he basically go thru each section by reading the subtopics stuff that u can do yourself. thats basically his lecture. he doesnt explain anything unless you ask. his test are open-book and he gives you a study guide.
His class is very easy. He's really helpful. And he lets students to use calculator all the time, much easier than other teachers.
Read your book,do your homework, take notes on what the questions will be on the test and put those notes in your book-it helps:)Also do your reports early in the semester and be in class on time-he really cares about attendance. His tests are open book and you can use the calculator. He is a good person¬ hard if you study the material.GOOD LUCK!
Great teacher. He moves a little fast, but is very receptive to office visits. Definitely remain conscious of you attendance, and do your reports early. Read the chapter before he teaches it - Trust me. Test are open book, but don't depend on that to save you. There are difficult concepts to learn, but once you get them they're easy.
you def need to do your work and show up to class. very nice guy but kinda unclear in his lectures..he basically reads from the book. but the tests are all open book + calculator.
not easy teacher..unless u understand math..teach straight from book (which is unhelpful) and calc. but a very nice guy..its easy to pass with a C if u just try to get at least 1 A, 1 B, 3 C, or maybe 2 D coz to get a C u need 15 pts. and A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 and attendance is automatically 4 pts if u show up all the time. final is not included in da pt
Prof Oberlander is not a good lecturer, but he lets you use text book on tests. He encourages his students to use calculators; which make nasty calculations much easier. The only thing I'd complain about him is that he grades based on GPA in the class. A=4B=3C=2 and so on, kinda unfair because a person who gets a 89 gets the same GPA as score 81.
This guy is okay with his jokes about his family life and his adopted kids. Class is a very easy C, but a difficult B due to his grading system. Open book, but doubt it helps.
I know more stories about his family and past students than he does. I still know nothing about Statistics. It's ok though, just show up, try, and he'll pass you with a C. Especially if he knows you need his class to transfer. He LOVES being the reason you can finally leave.
He's nice, but he CANT teach!!u have 2 work really hard to just pass w/a C and a lil extra harder to get a B..thank god 2 his gpa system!!if ur lookin 4 someone that can teach and a better understandin of statistics...i recommend u go to another skool..pcc have really bad math teachers...period
He tells a lot of stories about past students and family so class is fun. First math class I passed with a C. I didn't even have to take the final. Show up to class and you'll pass the class. I hate math and his class was fun.
He is one of the nicest men you will ever meet, but if you are not a good math student...dont take him. he moves really fast and is not always that clear. things really pile on in his class. however, if you usually do well in math, this is the best class for you.
easy class ! what u have to do is come to the class, do the report ,and learn from the previous test.
He is a very nice teacher. His tests are kinda easy if u do the example test he gave because most are the same questions on the tests. The GAP grading system helps people who didn't do well, but not really for people who do well.don't really need to spend a lot of time for this class, just use the book and calculator during the tests. A is not hard
Oberlander is a very sweet man. He is a very determined teacher. He came back a week after having a heart attack and heart SURGERY. His tests are easy if you do the practice tests. Grading system is kinda weird but very easy to get at least a B in the class. I failed 2 tests but still ended up with a B in the class. TAKE OBERLANDER! he's AWESOME!
if you decide to take him..take him during fall or spring NOT SUMMER OR WINTER! he moves pretty fast and messed up a lot on his own work..hes very nice and sweet but he has a strange grading system..
Took his class in the summer. Somewhat easy. Let's you use the book on tests and finals. Just show up everyday and do the work. That's the key to get lot's of points.
He teaches straight from the book and literally flips through the sections page by page during class as he explains points things out in the book. VERY accessible, a genuinely kind Christian man, NOT LAZY at all. Grades by GPA system (to most students' advantage) and is a stickler for attendance. Truly generous man, good for independent learners
probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. he's not extremely clear when going over concepts for the first time, but if you have half a brain, you'll easily pass with a C or above. tests are open book, and he teaches you how to do most everying on a calculator. i'm an idiot when it comes to math, but i passed quite easily and you will too.
So much I could say about this man. I feel he cares about his students though and wants each one to pass. I struggled through this class but made it with a C, I may not have gotten a C from other professors. I would say Oberlander is as good as it gets.
OK folks, here it is: Show up. Att. is mandatory. do the hw, do the practice test, go the library copy the pratice test there. he has a box w/ old exams with key. test are tricky. HIGHLY recommend you make friends and form study groups. talk to oberlander Test are tricky & concepts are tough. easy man to talk to. wants all of his students to pass.
awesome teacher...cool guy and very nice..tells lots of stories..attendence is a must..u get points for everything..do the homework..u could bs it and still get the points..test are open book..overall great teacher...take him if u have to take stats..
oberlander is one of the nicest teachers. I got an easy A...all a's on my tests including final. a lot of students struggled because they didnt do homework or do practice test. If you do that and go to library and do 1 extra set of practice tests garaunteed A
Dr. Oberlander is probably one of the most approachable math teachers on campus. He provides a lot of additional resources besides the text and its clear he wants you to pass his class. Tests are somewhat difficult, all tests are open book and attentitive students should have no difficulty passing.
Ummm..... I was soo close to an A and he wouldnt give it to me! I was .61 points from getting an A! He said he would try to work something out with me but he changed his mind! Not too hard... Never did the HW! Just put really good notes into your book b/c its open book test! and you should do fine!
I dont know how someone can teach without really writing anything on the board. You really have to be able to teach yourself. He is really helpful and LOVES to talk. By the end you will know everything about him and his life stories. He really isnt that clear but is always open for you to go and talk to him after class.
I took stat 50 during the fall semester 2007. This class is TOUGH as hell but knows the subject so you'll learn something. Very helpful and funny. He goes through the chapters rather quickly so try to stay awake in class. Open book tests/final. **Your calculator will be your best friend**. I'd take him again.
Easy grading system. Extremely helpful. He's big on attendance(this will really help your grade!) He'll let you check your own homework so you can say you that you got a 100% on it. Tests are pretty much easy. If you can't pass his class, i really don't know what to say:p He can be funny(if you like his jokes and story). Take his class& you'll pass
PROFESSOR OBERLANDER WAS ONE OF BEST TEACHERS I HAD IN PCC. MATH 125 WAS A REVIEW FOR ME BUT HE EXPLAINS IT EXTEREMLY CLEAR. IF YOUR GOING TO STATS, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE STAT 50 W/ HIM. HE'S AWESOME.
He is a wonderful teacher. I had to take this same class three times, but I am finally going to pass the class. He is very funny, tells stories sometimes, and is willing to help you to pass.
He is a very nice teacher. He is not easy to understand because he likes to take short cuts. I think he is so good with math himself, that he forgets that his students are just learning. He cares about the class and wants us to do well. He has read that the faster students learn material, the more material they retain. This is false, for me.
Okay guys he is okay not great. I am taking him right now for spring 08 and he is a good teacher. Test are easy just study practice test put notes on your book since all test are open book. I have a high C and I am hopeing for a B he said just do good on the final so stressing but he is good and nice person.!Take Him!
Best choice ever! Compare to other teachers, he is the BEST! He gives you practice exams, lets u use the book during tests, answers every question! Perfect! If you r lazy to come to class and late all the time, WATCH OUT! (he takes pts off). If u cant learn by urself, stay away. U have to read before class in order to know wht hes talking about.
yay.,,,! i took STAT 50 in spring 08 and i got an A for the class..he is awesome and tests were so easy..attendence is a must and do the sample old tests from libiary and u will do wellll....take himmmmm...AWESOME !
If you want to pass Stat50, make sure you take this guy. Study the practice tests and attend lectures. Other Stat professors are not as forgiving. I hate Math and I was able to escape with a 'B' in this class. Your calculator will be your best friend. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. I'd take him again.
Hes a GOOD choice! He is extremely helpful...and very patient. Hes a stickler for attendance. Show up and be on time! (you get docked off from ur grade) open book during tests and even the final...no need to memorize any formulas! i passed the class, but it would have not been as hard to pass if i wasnt absent and late all the time!!! believe me
Best thing about his class is that all the tests are open book. Worst thing is that attendance is mandatory and he spends a lot of time off topic (waaaay off topic). He actually told our class that condoms are ineffective and that God would punish the US for murdering babies with abortion! If you can deal with the crazy, take his class.
worse teacher ever. never taught class. you have to learn from the book because he is of no use. cant even answer questions from the book. if you're a teacher you should teach.
Way to easy the class. Cmon~ if you ask him a question, he teaches you until you understand, and if u dunt understand is because eihe ru didnt read the book or u didnt do the HW. bEST THING: OPEN BOOK TEST. You know all the answers if you did the practice test.
Math is easy with Dr Keith. He is the nicest, well, he is very good. I mean he s awesome.Although he may be fast for the first half period,do not be scare. Try to follow him.You dont need to understand to study math.Just to know how to do stuff.Dont think yourself stupid when you arent understnad cuz I,an A+ student, doesnt understand either
WORST teacher Ive had!! He is useless..U LEARN on ur OWN!! he gives Practice test and goes over them but he GOES WAAY tooo fast!! HE assumes uve read EVERYTHING and understand it BEFORE u come to class! Horrible. ALOOT of HW.Ok hes supper NICe and patient but he DOES NOT know how to teach!! at all. DONT take him!! I had to drop. First "W" .
Dr.Oberlander does go over the chapters fast. The sample tests do help, but fair warning when it comes to the final.....COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. The final is nothing like the tests you take in class, and you will need the entire 5 hours. Know the material inside and out for the final, or do very well if you plan on getting better than a C.
he is really good teacher, if you good at math, you will be ok, if you not good at math, just do your homework, finish your exam as well as you can. you will pass this class.he is very very nice. look the another student comments. trust me. you will pass this class.
nice teacher but his teaching method SUCKS i do not recommend at all. go's too fast on the chapter and does not explain the formulas. he always go's off topic. always talking about how one day he said in class that what were the probability of everyone surviving in class and a student passed out and it was funny to him. i had to drop his class.
If this is your first time in college DO NOT take this professor. He skips all the important information, like ALL the freakin formulas. He expects you to know everything the first time around. He DOES NOT teach, he just solves problems on the bord and thats it! Dont get me wrong he's a very nice man and has a sense of humor BUT cant teach at ALLL!
This professor Rocks... His teaching style is just awsome...USE a calculator and BOOM all the answer comes up. Its an openbook class + all his preview's tests are at the Library..go check them out.. some problems were just identical... Wasnt hard to get an A.. i failed 2 tests but Aced in final... I still got an A due to his grading scale :)
the students that complain about his class usually never study or ask for help, and whine when they get a low score on their test. Prof. Oberlander is not going to spoon feed you the information. He teaches at a university level where you actually needs to study. If you don't get it, ask him for help. There are also tutors available. Great guy!
Those who complain about this guy just sit in class, don't ask questions, don't participate, and eventually get bad grades. Oberlander is there to answer each and every question until you understand it. He has long office hours each day and I have never once had a hard time getting a hold of him. He is amazing, and will help you pass no matter what
Once you understand Prof's grading scale it isn't that hard to pass.do all of the hw, always study practice tests, and stay for whole test time! allows open book tests AND calculator use (whew!).super long office hours, will call you back if you leave a message!grades tests super quick!he's so nice and funny.
One of the most available profs ever! he is really there for his students. this semester he had office hours four days a week for about 4 hours a day! now how many profs are dedicated enough to do that?!? he was always there to answer my (numerous and lengthy!) questions. And we would find out our test grades fast! Never kept us wondering on that.
Difficult as i want to say, 2 weeks per test, and sometimes 1 week per one, and keeps going is just all TOO much. Okay, you can tell me about is available past tests, and all the over carb, so if you are the one only taking 3 classes, or just want to be busy, and waste money on photocopies, why the hell not.
Students take this professor for granted. Although professor Oberlander tries his best to make this class easy for students, STATS is still a tough subject. He does go fast but he repeats concepts over and over again. Very patient. Students have to get into the habit of constantly asking questions. Everything open book and graphing calculator.
This is a class where you when your taking it, it seems hard, but once your done, you realize how easy oberlander makes it. Open book test for the whole period or earlier. Practice test similar to the test, homeworks a breeze. Real long office hours. Lol, lots of life lessons. Good times! And you learn alot! What else could you possibly want?
Prof. Oberlander lets you use your book on the test...no memorizing formulas because if you need them you can just look them up. Also, you can use your graphing calculator for everything! You just need to remember how to find the function in the calculator and you're set. He is super helpful and doesn't mind if you ask a lot of questions.
Very nice man and very approachable. All teaching comes from book examples and problems but if you do the homework before class, then you can ask relevant questions. Sets you up to get an A but you have to study. If you rely only on the fact that tests are open book then you are lazy and don't deserve the A.
He is great! He is very helpful, the key to do good on this class is do the practice tests at least twice and you will get an A
This was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken! But I'm glad it was with him. Apparently hes one of the better stats prof in PCC letting you use a calc, book and gives you prac test that are similar to the actual test. I was in tutoring like everyday, but it paid off I went from a F to a B :) So i suggest you go too, met a ton of cool ppl
DON'T DO IT. HE DOESN'T TEACH JUST READS THE BOOK. TEST ARE DIFFICULT AND PURPOSELY MAKES THEM HARD. Don't listen to people below me i did the same thing and had to withdrawal. Unless you're SUPER SMART an math don't You'll struggle for a c.
Mr. Oberlander is a great guy. Some people didn't like the way he taught but I personally enjoyed his stories and his teachings. He tries to apply real life situations to statistics and is always willing to talk. A lot of office hours gives you a change to ask for help if needed. Highly recommended.
Nice man but not good teacher.Uses Ti83 too much and doesnt clarify material/ formulas. Hardly writes on board, Moves 2 chapters faster than other classes. Moves to fast, does not teach correctly, setting up students to fail. Take at your own risk, open book isn't what its cracked out to be, it really isn't!!! You gotta understand what you doing.
This man can not teach if his life depended on it well at least for statistic's, get's payed to do absolutely nothing, he is a nice guy and let's you use the book during exams but when it comes to teaching statistic's he is teaching the wrong subject. try to avoid unless you can learn statistic's on your own.
Goes off topic and talks about other things besides math. So you're responsible for teaching yourself everything as he can't teach at all. I regret taking his class.
Interesting guy, but speeds though the material TOO quickly. Allows you to use the book and a calculator on tests, but it is still very hard to do well unless you study hard and learn the material on your own.
Professor Oberlander is a very nice guy. He makes his class very fun and is always in a happy and good mood. He let us use the textbook during our exams, which helped A LOT. I was facing some issues with the admissions department and he personally walked with me over there to get the issue resolved. Very helpful and nice. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!
Oberlander is a good teacher, I personally enjoyed the class very much even though it was tough. there are open book tests & he lets you use calc. Uses life-experiences to relate to the topics in the book. He posts the tests from previous years & studying them helps A LOT.
Professor Oberlandor is an excellent instructor. His tests are similar to the homework, he's always available after class to answer any questions, and he's clear when he teaches. My favorite part about Oberlander was him reassuring the class about still receiving an A on the exam even if you don't understand a certain section. Take him!
Fast paced. Doesn't really teach. You learn on your own
Mr. Oberlander is one of the nicest people I have met. He truly cares about his students and does everything in his power to help them pass. The material is difficult and the fact that his class is only an hour long is what makes this class so hard. There isn't enough time to thoroughly go over the material. Not his fault. Great guy, def rec. him!
This professor is very fast and do not explain well, if you are struggling in math this is really bad choice for you. his most low grading side is needs to explain the material more and make sure to deliver it clearly. he is very fun and nice person but the only thing needs to care about his students grades and their success.
Mostly self-taught (txtbk)but then lecture clear. Clarify only if you ask questions. Prof very consistent with office hours and attendance. Hmwrk due on test days. TESTS ARE OPEN BOOK (&final). One mandatory oral pres. - very easy, doesn't have to relate to stats, can just be current event sum. Testspractice tests
Oberlander is one of the nicest teachers at PCC! He's pretty fast paced but I'm glad I took him because he prepared me for future math classes. He also let us use the textbook for our exams. Statistics isn't an easy subject, and his lectures may be a little confusing but all you have to do is ask and he'll definitely clarify for you.
His tests are hard but they are open book. Plus he gives a really good curve on the tests. He gives a lot of homework but he makes sure to supply students with all the answers. I still felt like I learned in his class, so overall I'd say he's a decent teacher.
He is a tough grader, he is very fast with the lectures, but considering that I am not a big math fan, I manage to pass his class, just don't do horrible on the tests because he does a very good curve and that D can be a C, it's passable.
Stats 50 is hard no matter who the professor is. Oberlander' test are open book and the calculator is permitted. You will get the grade that you work for in this class. Don't expect to get by without long hours of studying. Super nice guy, practice test before the real test. Also rents out stats 50 books and graphing calculator (saves you lot of $)
Throughout the semester most people are struggling, but if you show that you are trying, he will gladly help with your grade. Tests are open book and note so just take really organized notes.
It's pretty easy to pass the class but it's difficult to get an A. There is one test per week; open book and he gives big curves. There is one very easy project. Really fast lectures but if you are good with math then you'll do fine. He provides all the answers to homework before it's due and will help you with any questions if you ask.
The class is fairly easy, if you can self teach. His lectures are a little scrambled and hard to understand, but if you really focus on the homework and study on your own, you can definitely pass, as he is very lenient and curves tests, gives extra credit opportunities, etc. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions during lectures.
Terrible professor. Doesn't teach anything, just talks about his own life and his boring stories that are unrelated to the class. The tests are open book so if you can self teach it'll be easy to get a good grade. Very tough grader- if you leave out one tiny detail that doesn't even matter for the answer, he'll give no credit. PS he supports trump
Very nice guy, but NOT a good teacher. Mid explanation he'll take roll or talk about something unrelated. Reads from book quickly with no inflection. Must self-study. Show up for attendance points and for clarification on self study. I would have failed this class without Professor Leonard on YouTube. Open book test. Make lots of notes in book.
A very kind and helpful professor but his tests are hard and you should expect to ask a lot of questions because there is a lot of material to absorb. A lot of self-studying but the class is manageable. Out of all the professors I researched for Stats 50, he is definitely the best bet out of all the professors at PCC. I recommend taking him.
Over all really enjoyed having this professor. At times when things got confusing in class he really encouraged students to visit him during office hours, and he goes over any problem you have trouble with. Gives good amount of homework, but that helps as practice for tests. Open book tests. Friendly & funny professor.
Very kind professor who cares about students and is very knowledgable. Read upcoming chapters BEFORE class or you will be completely lost and wasting your time. So much homework and tests are super tough. You have to dedicate a lot of time outside of class to studying so say goodbye to your social life! Lectures were confusing.
He's great, his lectures are simple and he cares that you learn the material. However, he tends to get off topic and tell random stories. They're interesting, but in math classes, even the most clear and easy lectures may not be understood by students who have trouble with the subject. He could direct that time to more lecturing for those in need.
He's pretty decent professor and helpful if you have any problems or questions for the homework or exams and make sures you understand the lecture. It may seem confusing and hard at first but later on you'll will get most of it once you gain more understanding. Overall there is 6 exams, 6 sets of homework all due on test day, and a final.
This class is difficult because you have to somewhat teach yourself while taking this class, but if you go to his office hour you will understand him better! He allows you to use the book and calculator during test (helps ALOT), test are mainly curved. He is a very nice prof, but goes off topic a lot his stories are funny! Recommended class!!
He is a very nice professor he wants you to pass. He lets you use your book for test. He goes very fast with every chapter. He goes off topic a lot. We pretty much covered the whole book when other stats classes did not. Do all the homework and the extra credit!
Professor Oberlander's STAT 50 was a good class overall. While he may go off tangent quite frequently during his lectures, he is explains the concepts in further detail at his office hour He's a nice guy and his tests are curved. Plus he allows students to use resources during the test. Do the homework, study for the test and ask questions for an A
He does a great job of teaching the material. I find that his stories are great because Statistics is more about life, logic, and possibilities than just the numbers. He is strict, but extremely fair. The course is challenging because this is the same class colleges require for the GRE and want to see on your transcript for transfer.
HES SUPER NICE, FUNNY, CARING, &always smiling. However, he tends to go off topic a lot & makes mistakes when doing examples for the class which ends up confusing everyone. He also forgets things quite often but curves test/lets you use your book. Take this class if you are good at teaching yourself & plan to study A LOT!! Also lots of homework
He is a very nice teacher however he doesn't actually teach. If you're brand new to stats and have no background in math then do not take him. He only reads out of the textbook, quite literally just reads what is in the book and doesn't break down or help you to understand. If youre retaking stats then this class would be helpful.
Take this class if you are good self teacher. Take good notes in your book, you can use it on the tests and Final. Go to office hours he's a better one on one teacher.
nice and funny professor! but didnt teach well, he assigns hw everyday and basically reads off a book so you have to teach yourself. He also goes through like 2-3 sections a day and goes off topic A LOT. He likes to tell us stories about his previous students and teach us material that we wont be tested on because its useful for our future
He a kind and caring professor he want you to pass. You have to catch up and study hard on your own. Go tutoring everyday it will help you and his office hour he there to help you. He share story about his life. He offer extra credit. Don't miss class he take out points. I recommend to study pre-test. Work hard don't slack off.
This course was tough and super fast paced. The whole class including myself struggled (even the smart students). This tests were tough and he didnt explain the content well. You have to be a fast learner in math or go to his office hours daily in order to truly understand the content. But other than that he was super sweet, hes like a grandpa!!
Prof Oberlander is a lovely guy. He is caring and nice. However, this class was tough and hard to understand. He assigns homework for every chapter. His tests are pretty hard but he does curve the scores. Make sure you learn and revise by yourself outside of the class.
Dr. Oberlander is an okay teacher . He just reads from the textbook . Lets you use the textbook on every test . He gets distracted easily. He falls off topic and tells random long stories all the time .
He is the one of the best teachers at PCC. He makes his previous exams available so you know what to expect on his exams. Plus, he is super nice and approachable. If you have questions, go see him during his office hours, he will help you until you really get it. I strongly recommend him.
Professor Oberlander teaches how to do stats the easy way not the super complicated "$1 calculator only" way. He is very kind and cares about his students learning and earning a good grade. He also lets you use graphing calculators, something not all stats professors are open to. If I could, I'd take his classes through B.A. and M.A. classes.
