no textbook, most discussion was on how THE MATRIX related to descartes' philosophies
A lot of discussion on the matrix. Easy class.
Very interesting class. I learned alot. Really liked the discussions and he has a hot a*s. I really enjoyed that, uh, class.
this class was way interesting. he also made a boring class like phil 170 really interesting too.
He is a really cool guy with a good sense of humor. His class was sometimes boring, the tests were hard. But the good thing is that everyone does bad on the tests, so he grades on a curve...so you can miss more than half and get a B!
I thought his class was a waste of time. I had to drop it half-way through the semester. He would spend a whole 2 weeks arguing about a topic and it would all boil down to what we started with. It's ridiculous. Don't take this guy unless you have to.
I took this class about a year ago and we did talk about the Matrix a lot. Going to class was pointless because the day b4 each test he would tell you exactly what he wanted you to write in your essays. Very easy tests.
easy class. if you write down word for word what he says in class you'll do good on the essays. not bad to look at...rolls up his sleeves, have no idea what's up with that. i'd take him again.
Probably the easiest critical thinking class you can take, spends alot of time getting the class involved with discussions, makes you actually think about what your views are. Funny, and a little random.
No textbook (yay!), but reading was difficult. Class got boring after a while, but Keith Kaiser was still kinda cool. I liked the study group teachers as well.
I LOVE Keith Kaiser! I only took PHIL 170 for GE but he was such an awesome teacher that I had to take another one of his classes. He is hilarious, straight forward - no tricks up his sleaves grading wise, no book, 3 tests (tells you exactly whats on them) and HOT. I learned so much in his classes!
Prof. Kaiser is a super rad guy that actually cares about what the students think and takes the time to make sure everyone understands everything he goes over. He likes to discuss new movies and pop culture tidbits in the beginning of classes. Take him for a fun, informative class.
I would Reccomend this class. Keith attempts to make class interesting for the students (at times he fails- but most of the time he pulls!!!) Very helpful and understanding!
I love keith kaiser!!! His class is so cool because watching him is like watching an episode of king of the hill that lasts for an entire class period! He is so funny and his slight accent is so cute.
Simply the best professor I've ever had. (and the most gorgeous). It's been a few years since I've taken his class, and I am still checking his rating on RateMyProfessor. Brilliant, helpful, hilarious, and delicious. I wish I had class with him every day. He has impacted my education profoundly.
NIce guy. Topic is confusing but states his point. Two Midterms and Final. Midterms are about 10 scantron questions
He goes in circles a bit and is pretty repetitive but I guess it's because it is a lower division class with a lot of non-majors in the class. He is really interesting but a little slow if you are used to upper division philosophy. Still, I would take another class with him given the opportunity.
He loves the Matrix and booze. He is funny and easy-going, has minimal amount of graded materials in class which can be really good or really bad. The assigned readings are basically starting points for weeks of ranting and debate. You really need to go to class to acheive anything
hes easy peezeefosheezee i only went once a week and still pulled a A in the class...its redicoulous
very clear. a bit repetitive but its necessary to help us understand. really understands the material. class is easy if you listen well.
Okay boring subject, but to just look at him was worth going to class. Definitely repetive, alittle forgetful, but tries to get students to understand, if you have a question ask. It might be very funny answer to it.
awful lectures, don't learn a thing in the lecture, or for that matter, the class. very boring and appears **** and homeless!
The first day he walked into class he was either wasted or hung over....understands student really well....plays on the whole college lifestyle....he doesnt take roll....and makes you think about your own existance....i loved him.....and not to mention his texan accent.... made him even more sexy....pay attention and write down his examples.
this guy was effen hilarious. He talked about smoking pot and drinking... but tahts about all he talked about. I think he is a bit metro... as for the curriculum. 3 tests just show up and take them. as for passing the class.. good luck i guess just show up and try to sort out his ranting from his teaching. I got a B and all i did was sleep n laugh

He is a bit repetitive but he selects topics that are interesting. We had a lot to talk about in our class. He's also HILARIOUS.
Damn he's hot! and his texan accent makes him even hotter!
i dont know why i find this man so freaking attractive. but he is. & he's very funny.
probably one of the coolest teachers on campus. Hes hot and his class is easy as long as you pay attention and read. Definitely worth going to class for
okay...he's not hot..but he's funny as hell and he tries to make his class interesting...so that's good...but, damn, the topics are so confusing...
he's really cool and class is enjoyable. lectures can be a little confusing but its okay. main thing: just go to class! there isn't much reading.
New to Philosophy or just wondering what it's like? KAISER is the way to go! He has a boring voice, but he compensates with hilarious conversations during is lectures. The grading is mostly curved so the class is a breeze, but if you want a sure-fire 'A', then attend any group discussions he may offer.
He's a terrible professor. He can't teach, and he repeats the same things over and over again. If you want to be bored out of your mind and only be graded by 3 tests then go ahead and screw yourself.
you gotta be kidding me. Although funny and dresses nice, this guy he's very confusing and often repeats what he says for at least 2 classes. To be on the safe side, attend all of the student held discussions since they're clearer on the subject than he is. Attend the class though, the cases he gives are not found elsewhere and is on the final.
He was a good teacher, but, his tests are so ridiculous. He is very entertaining but I would not recommend this class if you want an A.
This class was easy. The midterms are multiple choice with like 15 questions on them. The final was exactly the review he gave us to study. The only thing I didn't like was that the midterms were tricky. Like he said he's good at making answers look the same. I say take this class if you want a funny teacher that makes the material interesting.
Kaiser is the s**t! All you have to do in philosophy is show up, take notes, buy the packet, and read it. I should up to class everyday and I learned a lot of great stuff. Also in that class you only have two multiple choice exams, and one essay exam! He offer's extra credit lectures. Go to all 12 and you get 2/3's boost in your grade!
Kaiser is da best PHIL teacher! All you have to do is go to class, take notes,& reading is not a lot. You only have two multiple choice exams, and one essay final exam. That's it! Also he offers extra credit lectures. Go to them and if you go to all 12 of them you get 2/3 boost in your grade. If you go to 6 lectures you get a 1/3 boost in ur grade.
the best teacher
He's a nice, easy professor to have.
I took Kaiser for Angles of Vision, and honors class. This class is a total joke. I didn;t learn anything the whole semester. Attendence is optional, so i didn't go to class. Grade is based off of only 3 tests, including the final. Kaiser is an awesome guy, but for this particular class, I would recommend a different teacher.
Funny, very good professor, i took the 3hr once a week night class, i loved it..i felt like i grasped many concepts..the book is only useful for lists of words necessary to memorize on exams. exams werent too tough yet not on the easy side, keep an open mind here. i wish i could have keith again for my next philo class.
Nice teacher, funny guy. Attendance not mandatory, no classwork, just 3 tests all semester. First one was take home too, how nice. Tests aren't too hard, make sure you use your phil book for reference and you should be able to get an easy B, but strive for that A!
funny guy, easy B, must try to understand to get the A. cool funny guy, pretty leniant grader
TAKE HIM!! he is the coolest professor ever. he grades on a curve and his test are pretty easy. dont have to attend all the time just make sure youre there when he reviews for the 3 tests and youre guaranteed to get a good grade
Coolest teacher and a hilarious personality, but this class is a waste of time if you're looking to learn something. You get out of class almost a half an hour early everyday, and he rambles on about the same thing. Uses weird analogies to get to a point...such as a "forehead hand." Easy "A" and an easy way to get 3 units!
i took a mandatory honors class and it was obvious that some students were there out of obligation. i think he made the class interesting and while the subject matter was less than riveting at times, i enjoyed it. attendance wasn't mandatory but i ended up going most of the time (strategic placement between important classes). i recommend him.
Hilarious in class, always a bit late though. He has the most amazing eyes I have ever seen. Think MacGyver meets Huey Lewis. Hot in a rugged way. He teaches philosophy in a very interesting, fun way, relating old concepts to contemporary themes in movies and books. I'd take him whenever possible.
easy teacher. teaches you how to "logic someone" 's ass. really need the book. 3 tests and thats it.
Very very boring.I had him in the morning too. Sometimes he beat the material to death... Very annoying. He's a really cool guy and he knows the material is boring so he tries to help. We had 2 quizzes with 10-15 questions... Worth 100 points so you get a couple wrong and you're down to a B or C. No midterm. The final was okay. Multiple choice and couple essay. But he tells you what the essay questions are before hand.
chill class but not too easy. his philosophy class is very tricky. book/handout was not helpful at all just go to his lectures and TAKE NOTES! only way for you to pass, trust me!
This teacher is really easy! 3 Midterms and 1 Comprehensive final. He does a generous curve. SUBJECT IS VERY BORING but if you want to avoid other phil teachers that requires a lot of writing this teacher is the way to go. His tests are tricky but pay attention to his class that's it everything is based on his lectures overall TAKE HIM
GREAT Professor. Probably the most interesting philosophy teacher on campus, period. He knows class is boring but he tries to make it fun. Pounds the subject and lecture into your head. Reviews the previous class topic prior to starting a new topic. Kaiser ask questions and make interesting topics that he thinks and we all think. Is this real? A+
Chill professor, he makes philosophy class interesting. Nicely dressed, looking fly. I earned a B because since I messed up on the first exam. But I learned a lot, especially on the morality. You should have no regrets whatsoever taking him. :)
You can tell he's totally smart. Plus he's the hottest professor ever, oh my God... I want him! Class is really interesting and it's easy to keep up. Hoping for a good grade!
one of the coolest professor's i've had at csulb. he's super laid back but he does give you a lot of useful information.
your grade is based on 3 exams you take. he doesnt care about attendance but if you want to pass i suggest you go to class. class can be really easy if you listen.
Cool guy, attendance isn't mandatory but extremely recommended as he tells you what is on the test. Tests are easy if you paid attention in class. Kinda fun when he would go off topic.
BEST TEACHER I'VE HAD AT CSULB. I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN ANYTIME.
not very interesting, but he knows what he's talking about.
He looks like a very rich man. He also loves the Matrix. Easy B if you put in the work. Hard to get an A unless you know how to answer the test questions like a Jeopardy contestant. So the bottom line is, you can get a B with some effort but the lecture & the experiences you'll get from his course will be so worth it for the rest of your life.
He is a good teacher but has boring lectures; likes to repeat things so it gets in your head but it gets redundant at times. Doesn't take attendance. His class is about logic and arguments - some people are naturally good at it and some aren't. If you aren't naturally good at it, like me, you'll have to study. If you are good at it, its an easy A.
It's a basic argumentation class. The first two tests are really easy. The final is easy, but the material mostly uses variables and is more difficult than the two midterms. His lectures are boring as hell, but that's just philosophy in general. He's a nice guy and tries to be funny.
EXTREMELY easy class. Material and tests are just...easy. Entire semester could honestly be taught in like a week, so it does feel like it goes on and on. He can be really repetitive-i listened for a couple minutes each class then started trying to learn to write with my left hand. But if you want an easy A, take it.
EASY A ! He's a nice instructor. His lectures can be very repetitive and boring but they help to an extent. There's only 3 tests that contribute to your grade and they're all very easy. Attendance is not mandatory. I recommend him for an easy A
Cool class. Professor would usually always find a way to make class interesting. Cracks jokes often. Work wise is easy just do a reading he assigns and study any pages you go over. 3 test and thats it. Might seem like u dont know whats going on but when it comes to the test it all makes sense.
This guy is a hoot! There are times when he is monotone, BUT he always makes class interesting. He is really chill and doesn't care about attendance. Be sure to participate because his class won't be as fun if no one participates.
There are two multiple choice exams and a short answers final. The concepts discussed are fairly easy but you still have to show up and get into the train of though required to pass the exams.
This class isn't an easy A. you have to truly understand the concepts and learn the material. I showed up to class every day and tried understanding the concepts, but it wasn't enough because I got a B, when I really wanted to get an A. There went my gpa:(. But seriously this isn't an easy breezy class when it comes to getting that A.
Hard class, harder than what you thought it would be
I HATED THIS CLASS SO MUCH! the class is so dry, like philosophy made no damn sense to me and I showed up every single day and tried my best to understand the topics. I think this class was a joke but I'm so lucky I passed. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like philosophy.
One of the best professors I've had. Lectures are extremely easy to understand. He writes everything you need to know on the board and constantly repeats important information. Only graded on 3 exams and they're all super easy. There's a review session before each, where you are told exactly what is on the exam. He is super funny - take this class!
Take him! It was a fast semester
Take him!
Average
The first two tests are really easy. The material mostly uses variables and is more difficult than the two midterms.
. Work wise is easy just do a reading he assigns and study any pages you go over.
Basic GE class
extremely recommended as he tells you what is on the test
He is a good teacher but has boring lectures
The class is so dry
This class is not so easy. you actually have to try and see things in a whole different perspective which I have trouble with. I attend all class meetings, but the exams are a bit tricky and its a little hard for me to understand since he doesn't really write anything on the board. wish we would do group discussions.
This class isn't an easy A. you have to truly understand the concepts and learn the material. I showed up to class every day and tried understanding the concepts, but it wasn't enough
Although attendance isn't mandatory, if you miss a class, you'll miss lots of material. He does a great job breaking it all down and doesn't require that you read the texts. The lecture can be boring at times, but if you're interested in current topics, he tends to use those as examples.
Professor Kaiser was one of the easiest professors I have ever had. Had very easy exams and no homework whatsoever. He does love to rant, so not every class is necessary to attend since some material is just repeated. But so worth taking if you need an easy A. I will definitely take another class with him if I get the chance to.
Professor Kaiser is very understanding, especially during the pandemic. He makes the course so that you have enough time to take each exam and review the lecture notes. Even though this class not via zoom, I enjoyed the lecture notes he posted on bechboard. I would recommend anyone who needs the credit to take this course, you won't regret it.
I took this class online and he just posted lecture videos explaining the content. I personally liked this mode of learning because his lectures were straightforward and you can watch them on your own time. The final grade is the combination of the averages of only four tests. He also curves if everyone didn't do as well as he anticipated.
he seems like a nice guy. he never held any zooms, just posted videos on youtube every couple weeks that we would use for exams. i really appreciated how he gave you a week to do exams and would leave it open so you can look at the answers, read the lectures, then answer them. his lectures can get a little confusing so just follow along.
This was the first class I've had a professor pre record lectures, and it really didn't work for me. You have three midterms and a final exam with essay questions, and he gives you a lot of time and access to resources but I feel like I really didn't learn anything. He would probably be better in person though!
I took him last semester Fall 2020 and we were completely online due to the pandemic and he was so accommodating. All the readings are provided in the modules and as long as you watch the lectures you will be completely fine for the exams. He gives plenty of time to watch the videos and take the exam so there is really no excuse to do poorly!
3 exams and final was several free-response questions. He is very nice and considerate about us learning during a pandemic. There are no ppts just videos of him lecturing. His lectures are kind of hard to follow along so I had to rewatch them multiple times to fully grasp the material. His exams are a challenge but it's doable. He curves exam ALOT!
Attend class!! Content was repetitive and slightly confusing, but this prof is very caring and nice. All lectures are info that will be on tests. Your grade is based off three tests, and the last was a multi-page free response test. He averages the four test grades to determine your final grade.
4 tests total (all ~20 MCQ's except 1 or 2 short answers on the final). No hw. Optional readings. Writes philosophical arguments like lines of code (if ___, then ___). Goes over info VERY in depth, so you could probably could go every other class and still get all the info. Great guy, some funny jokes, profound. Just enjoy thought-provoking ideas.
Our grade was based on 4 exams (no hw just optional readings). He curves grades/ scores A LOT. Lectures can get boring and he goes over what is going to be on the exam two days prior. Overall, he is a great and funny professor. Highly recommend.
The class is graded based on 4 tests (3 mc and 1 short response), with a huge curve. You will definitely have to attend his lectures, especially his review lectures as he will go over all the topics on the exams. He is very clear on what is going to be on it, and is always more than happy to elaborate or discuss with you. Would recommend
Although very kind and understanding, his lectures get very boring very quickly and made me not want to go. However, the grade consists of 4 exams - 3 multiple choices, and 1 written, so the class is easy to pass if you understand the material (which means you have to go to the lecture although it isn't mandatory). If you miss a quiz, make it up!
Anyone saying this guy is dry is clearly not a philosophy major. I experienced several moments in his classes where I swear the clouds parted and choirs of cherubs heralded my newfound enlightenment. Plus he's funny, empathetic, and grades on a curve. What's not to like?
I enjoyed this class so much! The class consists of 4 exams with no homework. There are readings he assigns that will benefit you into understanding the material since he doesn't do slides. Attendance is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged since you could miss a lot. He curves the test grades, and overall he's such a funny and caring professor.
Kaiser was an awesome prof! He's funny and caring. Graded from 4 exams + grades on a curve. Content can get confusing fast, try attending most lectures. Attendance is not mandatory. He does exam reviews in class. I can't complain about the guy, his metaphors are unique but make sense. Often ended class early, laid back kind of guy. He's a cool guy!
Kaiser is a king. No homework or mandatory readings. Class is graded solely off of 4 exams, all of which are curved. As long as you have a basic understanding of the premises of each argument, this class will be light work. Make sure to laugh at his jokes btw bc he deserves the world
he is really repetitive and hard to understand sometimes, but there is only 3 quizzes that go into the gradebook, all with a hefty curve. no homework, just pay attention to what he has to say in lecture. He doesn't post anything online so you have to show up to class to know what will be on the quiz.
Chill guy! Went to class here are there (discord helped) and got an A. Midterms are MC with few questions but need to understand topics (relatively easy to memorize). And written final that he tells you what it's about. Although has interesting lectures if you pay attention, attendance not mandatory nor TB. Can also let you out early some days.
Chill professor! Lectures can be a bit repetitive, however, attendance is not mandatory. Before each test, there's a test review where he goes over every concept, so attend those! Class is graded by 4 exams (3 MC 1 Short Response). Generous when grading with huge curves. Readings aren't required but might help understand concepts more.
i really liked this class! literally just show up for lecture and read the very few things he puts up online and you'll be ok. Kaiser is repetitive but that's by design; it makes the material very easy to understand. i didn't even take any notes and i got an A on every single test (4 of them, all curved), he very much wants you to pass.
Professor Keith Kaiser is the goat. 4 test with a crazy curve. Lectures are very interesting to listen to and very fun overall.
Amazing Professor. If you show up to class and pay attention in lectures it will be the easiest course of your academic career. No homework. No projects. 3 exams, 1 final. The first three exams are all multiple choice, the final is a 7-question, essay response style exam. For the final, he provides the exam questions a week prior to the final.
Very easy class and great professor. 3 exams, 1 final. He curves it so that unless you literally get a 0, you will at least pass the class. Listening to his lectures is the best way to prepare and study for the tests. If you like philosophy, then this class should be interesting. The start might be a little boring but it picks up after that.
Professor Kaiser's PHIL101 class is a gem - he's a fun, engaging lecturer who makes complex topics digestible. Attendance is a must, but the exams are curved and manageable if you stay on top of the readings. Unstuck study was super helpful for nailing the practice questions.
Genuinely the goat, he makes it so easy to understand some hard topics. Just go to his lectures and literally pay attention and you'll easily get an A. No homework, only 4 exams. Super fun!!
Prof. Kaiser is a good professor his lectures are sometimes really long and confusing but overall the class is pretty easy. The only class grades are 4 exams, the first three are multiple choice and the last (final exam) is a written response exam. He curves the exam grades so it is easy to get an A if you try, go to lectures, and read the stories.
Great personality, however his lectures felt like he was running around you in circles. He claims that he will help you get the highest grade possible but literally offers no good feedback or suggestions.
Only 4 exams (3 MCQ & 1 Written Response). To be honest, I did not learn anything throughout this course because it was confusing. I passed with an A because he provided study guides that were exactly on the exams. He doesn't post grades on Canvas. He was a nice, well-spoken professor. Lectures were very boring but helpful.
