Interesting lectures, tough grader.

Excellent teacher. Extremely intelligent. Probably one of the most intelligent people I've met. He puts great effort in being fair on material. Tough on grading though. Expects a lot.

HE is a really good teacher, but a VERY hard grader. probably one of the best profs i have ever had, but challenges you a lot.

easy class if you actually read the book and kinda pay attention in class. nice guy, really knows his stuff. kinda hard on grading but if you have obviously put a lot of work into it he'll be cool about your grade. good guy

kendall, treats you like an actual human being when u go to talk to him so he has my respect. his tests are extremely hard. memorize the headings in the book though, it will help. this course is time consuming and demanding for a 101 level.

Very good teacher!! Very understanding. My advice to you all is to go to the lectures. not only does he try to make it interesting, but it really does help on the tests. If you do it right you don't have to read as much of the book.

Kendall was awesome! Western Civ is notorious at NMU, but I enjoyed the class. Kendall is caring, and straight forward. If you need to take Western Civ TAKE HIM.

He is the most approachable prof. on campus. He is very interesting to listen to because he is so knowledgable in everything that he always has an extra little bit to throw in. Great prof.

I really enjoyed him. Really reasonable and understanding. You can tell he loves to teach.

Great teacher. I personally hate History and loved his class. To pass all we really had to do was to show up every day and do okay on all the tests and the one project that was so easy.

He is very good at explaining what he is talking about. He created a website just so his students would be able to follow along better. There is alot of reading, but if you keep up, you will do fine. One of the better teachers that I have had at NMU.

I hate history, and Kendall is the only Prof that made it bareable for me. There is a lot of reading, what history class isnt? Even outside of class he recongizes you and is willing to help you. I recommend Kendall to everyone I can, he is a great Prof.

Extremely helpful professor. Takes a lot of interest in all his students. He works with you through any problems you may have and is very flexible when unforeseen problems arise.

Dr. Kendall is seriously the best prof i have ever had. He makes it interesting and really cares about you as a student. If you have to take history, take one of his classes.

very good professor. He was very clear and will answer any questions that are given. watch out for the silk roads project and do not have a cell phone in class.

Excellent professor. He's very friendly and seems to truly enjoy the subjects that he teaches. He's got to be one of the best professors I've had. I recommend him to just about anyone, especially for upper level history courses.

If you're ok w/working your a*s off & getting a C, then this prof is perfect for u, but if you care about good grades, HE SUCKS! On the 1st exam he had more F's than A's, more D's than C's! His explanation to that was 10yrs down the line no 1 will care what you got in Western Civ. That's just Sad!!

He has got to be the coolest prof. He even makes Latin fun and easy.

If you want a good prof for history then take Kendall.

Very good guy, really gets into his lectures and keeps it entertaining. Tough work but its still worth taking, he learns your first name if you keep involved and i think thats a great trait amongst prof's.

Wasn't a big history fan before this class but Kendall's awesome, made me very interested in the material and I really enjoyed the class. Very helpful and approachable if you have any questions. I highly recommend taking all the history classes you need to take w/ him!

Kendall is a great guy and he expects a lot from his students. The first few weeks of his HS200 class are pretty intense, there is a lot of reading and several papers to turn in. My biggest complaint was his unclarity in what he wanted from us when writing a paper.

He is a very nice person and class is easy. But he is a little two faced because he will listen to your problems with the class and then not take them into account when grades are given out. It is more wise to do topics that have been done before than trying to do something creative.

He expects a lot from you but he's a good professor. Lots of reading, but its really interesting.

Professor Kendall is a great lecturer-he makes a boring topic like history come alive. Class requires a lot of reading, but it is interesting.

Professor Kendall is awesome, he knows the material, and his lectures are never boring. He also tries to get to know all the students in the class. It's a tough class, but very interesting and worth the effort.

Lots of reading - not fun. But for once a professor that can actually make lectures lively and worth listening to. A really cool smart guy

Kendall is a very helpful teacher. If you aren't there and explain to him the situation he's very understanding. He makes the material interesting, which can be hard to do with a dry subject like history. I would recommend taking a class with him.

He just makes history so interesting and appealing. He is really into what hes teaching which makes it that much easier to learn.

Hands down, the best History teacher/professor that I have ever had. It was a joy to have him for a teacher. He makes all of the topics come to life and really knows his stuff. His classes are not easy, but well worth taking if you are willing to put the work into it.

Wow, I absolutely loved this professor. Kendall is animated and hilarious and he tells the best stories. Made history exciting and fun. Plus, he's not too bad on the eyes either.

Amazing professor. Funny, interesting, intelligent, and challenging. He knows so much about the topic and obviously loves to teach and cares about his students. Tough grader, but you actually are earning the grades you are getting. Highly recommended.

Very Very Hard!!! I would not recomend this professor if you are taking it for a liberal. He is very interesting. But there is tons of reading (I had to buy 7 paperback books for the class) Pop quizzes that are about the reading assingments the questions aren't to make sure you read they are to make sure you are understanding (VERY HARD)

Kendall is awesome. I hated History before taking this class. True that it can be a little difficult to keep up with reading, but even for an elective I would highly recommend any class he teaches. YAY!!! Kendallus 4 life!!!

Kendall is a great Prof. He loves what he's doing and it shows. If you show even the slightest amount of interest in what he is teaching then he'll bend over backwards to help you out. It's kind of a tough class but you learn a lot. Make sure you go to class.

Prof Kendall is an awesome guy. He makes you read the material the night before and then explains it clearly and makes you interested in the topic. Class is interesting, Kendall's a great guy, but if he brushes up against the chalk board ledge and gets chalk on himself...you better warn him before he goes to his next class.

Kendall makes learning fun. He uses interesting ways to involve the class in the history and great examples to help you understand. Funny at time, serrious at other, always enjoyable, and he knows his stuff. you will learn alot and have ot work pretty hard, but it's worth it.

Seriously, Kendall is the bomb. Yeah, you work a lot, but that's what college is about. A great guy too.

A great teacher and a great guy. He knows if you're trying or not, and if you are he'll do what he can to make sure you pass. His classes are really interesting to sit threw because his lectures are in depth and interesting; highlights include him climbing on tables. I’d take a class with him again. His class is NOT an easy A though.

The single best professor I have ever had. He took a real interest in me and really cared how I did in the class. He is amazing. The friendliest, most intelligent man employed by NMU. He is tough, but he is a wonderful teacher. If you think he dosent care about the people that dont understand the information, its because you dont care enough to come to him for help. Best teacher i've ever had at northern by far!

You have to work hard in his class, but he makes it fun and interesting and makes sure you're learning. Any time you don't understand something, he's available and willing to help. And he's the only prof at NMU I've ever seen in a kilt!!

Wonderful professor! He is so energetic and excited about teaching history. I actually look forward to going to class every day. His tests are not easy, but it's worth it to study hard because you will learn so much. I look forward to taking other classes with him.

Best Professor I've had at Northern!

Kendall is one of the few reasons I'm still attending Northern. His teaching style is energetic, creative, and fun. He expects a lot class participation. So do your reading and be prepared for class. If you have any questions, or even if you are just worried about something don't be afraid to tell him, but approach him early.

Professor Kendall is everything GREAT you read about here and more. He goes above and beyond - NMU is lucky beyond belief to have him. Enroll in his class and go every day! You will not be dissappointed! He was my adviser and friend (I am a grad student now elsewhere) and as long as you do what is being asked of you, you won't be dissappointed!!!

I do not like history, but enjoyed his class. Keep up with your reading because he likes to do pop quizzes, but are easy points. Study and you'll do fine, his tests aren't overly difficult, but the readings are a must. He's very energetic and learns everyones name. Great teacher and very helpful.

Before this class I had no interest in history at all. Kendall made learing history actually interesting to me. He is very energetic and inthusiastic about teaching. You must do the reading to do well in this class. He gives a few pop quizzes but other than that, great class and Kendall is probably my favorite teacher at NMU.

the class isn't easy, but he make it worth it. his lecture are some of the best at NMU.

He wasn't helpful. Though rather funny in class, I thought he was very arrogant at times, which just plain bothered me. He is a tough grader, don't expect any A's...actually you shouldn't expect B's either.

Kendall is an amazing professor if you are willing to learn. He is a college professor and expects a college level student. Study guides follow exams. Do the reading or you will not do well in his class for he does grade on participation so reading does help. Thanks for making my college experience great!

Very challenging but interesting. Lots of reading and studying. Very controlling about laptops, phones, and talking in class. Overall good professor.

Incredible teacher. Came into the class with little interest, totally changed my mind and got me into the subject. He isn't easy by any means, and demands allot, But he makes you enjoy your grade when you earn it. Makes you think about your work, if you just want an easy grade he is not for you, but you WILL learn. Best teacher had at NMU.

Best teacher in the history of teachers. Very smart and helpful. Class can be incredibly difficult though, and you really need to work hard to keep up. Will leave the class a better student, really prepares you for anything. Knows all the students names after just a couple classes, and is a very nice and cool dude.

I had a B+ the entire semester, was doing fine. Comes to the last week of class and I was out due to an illness, in his opinion it wasn't worth missing class and failed me on the spot. Thought he was a great guy, I was wrong.

He is really easy to understand. He also puts jokes in every now and then to make sure you are listening.

Kendall was an awesome teacher! His tests are hard, but if you take time to study for them you should be okay. Even in a large class, he'll know you by name. He loves his students and loves his job. I would recommend him to anyone.

This was one of my favorite classes. He is very knowledgeable and stays on track. He sees tardiness, phones going off and talking as disrespect and often asks to talk after class if done. Exams and quizzes require lots of reading unless you want to completely bomb them. Overall a straightforward class that I'd recommend.

Kendall is a great professor. Lecture was fairly interesting. Took this class to fulfill liberals. Exams are all the same style - essay questions, maps, and summarizinganalyzing articles. Need to read to do well. Weekly extra credit available. Attendance is part of your grade - more willing to help if he sees you - he remembers everyone.

Kendall is one of a kind! He's a great speaker, which helps you pay attention to his lectures. Exams are the same format and the study guides include all the info on the exam. Read as much as you are able to, it truly helps. This course was not easy, but I learned more about history in his class than I've learned in my entire educational career!!!

Dr. Kendall is an amazing professor. He is knowledgeable, kind, and an excellent lecturer. He makes himself available to his students and cares about what they get out of the course beyond the letter grade.

Fun in class but you have to work hard on the papers and the citations are very important

Dr. Kendall is hands down the best professor I've ever had. He's a great professor, and he makes it known what he expects out of students. If you miss less than 3 classes, you get your grade bumped up a letter. The tests are tough, but if you put in just a little effort it's easy to get a B in the class.

I LOVED this class. Dr.K made it interesting & fun. Very helpful outside of class. Was able to connect to the students not only to help understand the material, but things like writing essays the night before. Cares about the students & genuinely wants to help. Definitely would take another course from him.

Dr. Kendall is clearly respected by his students, but make sure you don't get on his bad side! Class is mandatory since his lectures are packed with information, but he makes the information interesting to learn. His tests are a pretty basic layout, just make sure you keep up with the readings. Would definitely recommend him. Gives extra credit too

Dr Kendall is not only an excellent professor teaching wise, but a good person in general. However, his kindness should not be taken weakness. He is a stern grader and you will get what you earn. He does give plenty of feedback so if you put in the effort you will get a good grade

Dr. Kendall is surely one of the best instructors at NMU. His passion for history and for teaching is truly invaluable. I never wanted to miss a class because he made the subject really interesting, even at 9am. He is a bit of a tough grader but he does give sufficient feedback and help. Do your best and you will definitely pass.

In my opinion, Dr. Kendall is without a doubt one of NMU's greatest assets. Very few, if any, students will tell you otherwise. He has a genuine passion for teaching and for helping his students learn. If you put in just a little effort, there's no question you'll get an A. He makes the subject absolutely fascinating!

Dr. Kendall is by far one of the best Professors at NMU. Although the class taken was not for my major, he made it interesting for non-history majors. He was accommodating, available outside of class and kept your attention during lectures. There was a decent amount of reading and papers but overall a great course. He is an amazing Professor!

Keith really is a gem. He is so passionate about what he teaches, and makes learning fun. He actually teaches you things, and is very helpful if you are struggling and confused by something throughout the course. Quizzes are easy to cram for, the essays are tough-just get an early start.

Keith is absolutely awesome. He keeps his lectures interesting and funny. There is quite a bit of reading in this class, but he is good about answering questions and providing help with it. Truly one of the best teachers I've had.

Great guy, very funny, and very respectable. He makes you enjoy being in class and that is hard to do. It shows that he cares about the material and has a passion about it which makes it easier for us to understand and also care about what he's talking about.

Keith is a very nice guy. He is clearly very passionate about history. The class was pretty split between group work and lecture. I very much preferred the lecture days. I would take his class again if there was not as much group work.

Dr. K is an awesome professor! He is very passionate about the subject, helpful, and makes the material extremely interesting. As long as you do the readings before the quizzes, and do the short papers on time, you'll do great.

By far one of the best professors at NMU. He is caring and available after classes. He is clear cut for criteria and lets you know upfront what he is looking for. I've had him 3 times, and his classes are the most stable and reliable. There are no surprises. You have to work for your grade, and there is a lot of reading and writing. Excellent Prof!

I had him for HS201 last semester. Wonderful class. Super helpful and made history fun for non-history majors. Super smart, and encourages you to think about the material. Tests are all open-ended questions so you have to pay attention. Dr. Kendall is a great professor!!
