Very nice professor. Enjoyed very much. would take again. made class interesting. good discussion.
Dont take this class he gives way to much work. A ridiculous amount I was always stressed.
take him...very helpful and interesting...also a nice person
I absolutly love this man an his class. I had his for Soc Theory, can be hard at times but he is amazing and will explain any confusion that you have. I learned alot from him and would take him again if I could =) TAKE HIS CLASSES !!!!!!
Great guy, funny, easy to get along with, easy to get an A if you do the work
Funny teacher makes the class not boring but you don't ever really know where you stand with your grade. If you ask he'll tell you that you have one possible grade but you'll get another. But otherwise good teacher.
Lecture class. Hard tests, never tells you what is on them. Tells you what chapters to read and takes material from chapter as well as class for test so must read. Confusing wording on test. Loves sociology but is can be very abrasive.
Awesome professor who really cares about the students and his subject. Makes you think alot! Mostly lecture with a some discussion. Study for the tests. If you try and go to class, you can do well.
You want to attend this class. It will make you see EVERYTHING completely different. He makes the material really interesting. The only thing to watch out for is if you do the voluntary assignments and dont do well he still counts the grade.
Never met a teacher who cared about students as much as Kerr. Take for ANY class he teaches. Laid back but makes material exciting and sound important. His is the the one class I looked forwrd to.
Class was inteesting. Very glad I took it. Covers deep stuff but Kerr can show how it relates to you.
Loved his class! He makes everything really relatable and interesting. Gives a few readings and expects you to read the textbook, but without it you'll be fine on the tests. Take him if you have the chance!
He's a pretty good professor, makes the material very interesting tests were a little difficult because of the way the questions are phrased but if you study very passable. I would recommend me to anyone espechially if you like sociology.
Professor Kerr is the best. His assignments are pretty hard for this class, a lot of papers. But if you go to class, you'll be ok. Such an interesting topic, you won't be sorry you took it! It's a bonus that professor Kerr is just about the coolest professor at QU. If you have the chance to take him, DO IT!
Kerr is an awesome professor! He makes the class interesting and is always available during his office hours to help his students. The tests can be a little difficult. Some of the questions do come out of the text so you should read that along with studying your notes. The writing assignments are simple and easy. Great class definitely take it!
Professor Kerr is awesome. Always willing to help students and responds to emails in a timely manner, plus plenty of office hours. Very informative and has a way of making you think of about things a different way. If you try in the class, you should do fine. 4 papers throughout the course, 4 tests, pay attention and you'll do fine.
Surprisingly difficult for a 101 class. He's a good teacher and I feel like I learned a lot. However, his tests are not based on what he went over in class. Make sure you READ THE BOOK. He tests on it quite heavily, down to little details, but if you put in some time before the tests you'll do fine.
The best class I've taken at QU. It was so interesting and he is a great professor. Use the last pages of the chapter to study from (the chapter review) that's where test questions come from. Otherwise just take good notes and you'll do great. I would definitely recommend him for SO101. He has a very different teaching style that's a lot of fun.
Kerr is the man, funny, clear, interesting. Some multiple choice q's on tests were hard to understand, that may be why I didn't do great, but the class was very interesting, and he's around to help if needed.
Kerr is a really nice guy with a sense of humor. Very interesting class and knows how to break down information so you understand it. Really cares if you are understanding material and will continue to go over it until you completely understand main points. Great class.
Hands down the best soc professor I've ever had. Keith is amazing !
Quite possibly my best professor this semester and the best I have taken at Quinnipiac University. While class attendance is important to pass, classes are exciting to go to and worth going to. He makes concepts clear and easy to understand.
He is a brilliant guy. Very compelling to listen to and learn from. I enjoyed the class and learned something every day. Just pay attention in class and you will do well.
One of the BEST professors at QU- one of my favorite classes ever. This class has opened my eyes to so many things and I'm actually learning them. I'm taking more socio classes just because of him. He makes the subject so interesting and interactive. I literally cannot rave about this guy enough. Take this class I promise you will not regret it.
Amazing class. I looked forward to going to his lectures every class. Tests are multiple choice and hard. Questions are from his lectures and the textbook so make sure you read before the tests. Awesome guy willing to help you if you need it. I would take this class again if I could.
Honestly not a fan at all. The tests were super wordy and hard. We get a pop quiz every other class. He does sociology experiments on his students through out class which makes his students not trust him. Wish I had taken a couple other Professors at QU because my friends have loved Sociology and I did not.
Avoid if you can. Kerr is a nice guy but extremely tough teacher. Studied for every test and couldn't mange to get above an 80 on any of them which many other students couldn't either.
Pay attention in class and take good notes. Questions on the exams are mostly based on the lecture and he breaks concepts down so they're easy to understand. Take the class seriously and you'll do well.
Although he does lecture throughout the class, its not bad at all. He always checks if anyone has questions about the material and includes current articles or interesting readings for assignments. He only gives a few big writing pieces, and he's pretty laid back. Really cool dude.
Be sure to do the readings assigned and remember to read the chapter and your notes that you should take in class everyday. Tests are a lot from what he says in class and what is in the book.
I took his class for a UC and honestly made me wanna be a doc minor, he was really enjoyable and kept the class interested
Kerr is a great guy and his lectures are very interesting. However, his tests are very hard and his test questions are weirdly worded sometimes. I would study for days and couldn't get a grade about an 80.
Kerr's class is an easy A and actually very interesting. He's a little out there sometimes but loves what he does which makes the class very enjoyable. Showing up to his office hours makes a difference. Only 3-4 tests and 2-3 short formal writing assignments. Takes attendance most days.
Keith is a super interesting guy and is so intelligent. This particular class was pretty philosophical so at times it was confusing, but Keith made absolutely certain that we all understood what he was teaching. He's always open to questions and I actually looked forward to his class.
I took this online class over the summer, pretty simple set up readings, discussion posts, and then a quiz every week. Material was a little boring but he is a fair grader when it comes to things, just make sure to elaborate on your thoughts and you will do fine.
I had him for soc 101. Amazing teacher! He makes this class so interesting and you will actually enjoy the material. Homework is moderate, only occasional readings/ essays. Fair grader. He took attendance in the beginning but hasn't in weeks. Definitely take this class!!!
For a SO101 class, the professor made the class way more difficult than it needed to be. The tests are very detailed and was a tough grader on essays. I do not recommened and would not take again.
Professor Kerr is such an awesome professor. He cares so much about the material and makes everything so easy to understand/relates everything to our lives. Even if you're not interested in sociology, you will love this class. 100% RECOMMEND!!!
Kerr is a great professor and is very engaged in the material. The class is not boring, but he is a tough grader and his tests are very hard.
Professor Kerr is an awesome professor and an inspirational person! Really enjoyed his class and the teachings. Be sure to follow his notes during class and read the textbook. If you do that, you'll get an A
Interesting class. Would take again.
Kerr taught me nothing throughout his course, all he did was share stories of times he went to China and talk about how China is better than the United States, in my opinion he tries to force communist ideology on his students, not only would i recommend not to take his class which is confusing, but i don't think this man should be allowed to teach
This is a very discussion-based class. As long as you do the readings and show up, you will pass. There is the occasional paper, but they are nothing to stress about. This ended up being my favorite class this semester. I would definitely recommend this class.
Professor Kerr is by far one of my favorite Professors I have had. His classes are very interesting and never boring. If you take notes in class and read through the book quickly you will easily do well. Would recommend taking him for Sociology.
Great Professor and person! He gives extra credit often and there are only three formal paper assignments that are short and easy to write. The exams are not bad if you pay attention to lectures and READ THE ASSIGNED READINGS. If you have a chance to visit him during office hours, do it! He gives great life advice.
Professor Kerr was absolutely amazing! He had us laughing everyday and really made learning sociology fun and exciting. I always look forward to this class because it was never boring. Only 3 major papers throughout the semester so it was pretty easy. Highly recommend taking sociology 101 with him!
Professor Kerr is great! You can tell he loves to teach sociology, and has a good time doing it. For having such a large class I think he really connected with us and was always making us laugh. Pay attention to lectures and do your reading and you will do fine in his class.
Took SO375. Interesting class and prof was understanding and quick to grade. Actually enjoyed taking the summer class.
I had prof Kerr for an intro to sociology course and he is by far my favorite professor here at QU. He teaches in a way where lectures are filled with fascinating stories from his travels around the world. The course is basically just memorizing terms and reading a few really cool articles. Seriously recommend taking one of his classes.
Prof. Kerr was one of my favorite professors at QU. Death, Grief, & Bereave was a great class. Barely any work but he assigned readings that were interesting but you had to read them for assignments. Definitely would recommend taking his class, great guy, quick grader, wants best for students
not accommodating at all. attendance is graded out of 100 and class is discussion-based without context so in person is super easy. outside work is graded hard and strict on lateness. he is condescending and would rather see you fail than go out of his way to help. "you seem to not care about your time or money showing your effort in this class."
Solid online class with actual interesting readings. Prof gives recorded summaries if you dont want to read. Easy grade and fast grader for a 2 week course.
Professor Kerr is a great sociology teacher and I've learned a lot by taking his class. His lectures are all about stories from his life including his family and travels around the world. Not a lot of homework besides the occasional reading in the text book and a couple writing assignments. Tests are open book and are fairly easy if you pay listen
Amazing micro class that I definitely recommend. Professor Kerr discussed race, which is a tough topic, especially in today's climate, in such a thoughtful way. There are essays to write every week on very interesting readings. Each beginning of class, he gives a topic to write on as attendance, that as long as you hand it in, you get a 100.
If you want an easy A take this class! He gives 3 exams all of which are open note and multiple choice. There are few homework assignments and reading of the textbook is not needed to pass the class. He takes attendance randomly, he probably took it 3 times the entire semester so if you miss class it's not a big deal. Overall an amazing professor.
Kerr's class is an easy A as long as you show up and take notes. He doesn't give out materials, so even though he doesn't take attendance you should go to get the notes! There were 3 tests that were 25 MC questions open notes - SO EASY! Lectures were kinda boring, but he tries to keep you engaged. Only 3 short writing assignments all year, too!
Amazing professor, I dont have enough good things to say about him. Easy class materials also. Very impactful
My experience was meh. Some of these reviews overhyped this dude. Professor Kerr was just okay, I personally wouldn't take him again because it wasn't anything great. There are better sociology professors at QU don't waste your time or money. I feel like he doesn't give a crap about anything, just no pride in presentation or delivery of material.
He's kind of out-there but it makes the class fun and he doesn't really give a lot of work, at least online. He's fairly easily accessible whenever and he's a pretty easy grader. A big part of his class was discussions, online or in person.
Professor Kerr is a good professor. Don't be intimidated if he calls you out in class because it's just part of the lecture so just take it with a grain of salt. His comments may catch you off guard all he's doing is trying to make a point. One time he asked me for $20 to talk about the value of money and ripped it but gave me back another $20.
Very easy class, you meet once a week and have a week to hand in assignments. The class goes by fairly quickly. There is a "final" which was about 1-3 pages double-spaced. Missed several classes due to illness and handed in everything a week later and still received full credit, just make sure to communicate
TAKE NOTES!! All test are open notes and book (only 3). Super Easy, lectures are awesome! Attendance not mandatory but once in a while will have in class assignments as easy as writing your name for attendance.
Justice Studies... you will be assigned a paper every other class due the following class. Papers will often even overlap one another. Addresses the class as "God damn liberals" even when politics are not discussed. Be prepared to be scared to participate conversations become awkward and he knit picks answers. However no quizzes/tests ever.
tbh my best professor this semester and one of my favorites, too. Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Class is new so he takes feedback really seriously and tries to incorporate what students want. Interesting topics, very tied into SO101 so there's a lot of overlap. He's a pretty easy grader and gives really good feedback. Highly recommend!
He's a genuine guy and a good person, however, I took justice studies, and it just felt more like a sociology course than about justice studies. good guy, just wouldn't take him again.
Kerr is an amazing teacher. 10/10 would take again 100% only thing I would change is the amount of small papers he assigns and the class feels more theory base and not really justice studies but I enjoyed the class overall
Overall great professor, kept lectures interesting and students engaged. I actually retained all the information he gave because of his teaching style. Definitely recommend taking one of his courses.
Professor Kerr teaches an interesting class; however, there is too much busy work and constant essays. The grading is reasonable, but we received two 3-4 page essays within days from each other, and they were during midterm week, yet he claimed that we haven't been given a lot of work so it is fine, which is not true. Would be good with less work!
Really good micro class, not too much work. You post response videos to a flip board and they are actually very interesting. One final paper, 3 pages double spaced. Was a really interesting topic so i wrote 4! Would take again.
as long as you take notes during lecture you will do good on tests. They aren't on quizlet sometimes but as long as u have notes from lecture u will do fine. Only takes attendence sometimes by having the ppl in class write their names on a paper. just show up to class and ur good. nice funny guy
If you don't like to listen to lectures then this class is not for you. He is easy for the most part, but this class is overall very boring. He can be a nice professor, but gives off a different impression.
Took him for J-term and this was a great super easy class to take for 3 credits. Focused on theory, budgeting and investing and it was genuinely a useful class. He grades everything within a day and always gives feedback and is easy to reach. I recommend, manageable amount of work!
While it was nice not having to worry about attendance, this professor is very lecture heavy with no visuals of what he is saying. This made it difficult to learn from him but the class was relatively easy. He definitely gives weird tests but they were fine. He is super nice and easy to talk to though!
Prof Kerr, was alright. Just be aware that for DB you have to submit a video talking for every week so if your not comfortable doing this do not take his class. Overall pretty easy and organized.
Keith is a great professor, very lecture heavy but his lectures are very engaging and he's pretty funny. tests are all untimed, online take-home tests that are open book and open note. 3 papers through the semester that are all very straight forward. Would for sure take again
Professor Kerr is electric. The lectures are very interesting and thought-provoking. His tests are all take home and you get about a week to do them which is very nice. The essays you write are not long at all and he grades them very fairly.
Taking him for J-term, he started off strong and thought he was chill and cool until he gave me zeros on 2 assignments, saying I needed to read the instructions, which I did, and did the assignments correctly. Such a difficult grader, and if you dont do specifically what he asks, you won't do well. This guy is awful, I don't recommend taking him.
J-term class was great, work did not take up too much time and was reasonable. The topics were relevant, work was easy and insightful. The last review about being a hard grader is not true at all, he is very fair and will answer questions pretty quickly so they should have just asked him to clarify or to redo it for a better grade. Great prof!!
Prof. Kerr was by far my favorite prof last semester. He is laid back, funny, and personable. He teaches through stories and by example. He is an extremely easy grader and is willing to work with you if you need help. He definitely matches the energy of his students and gets on their level pretty easily. Overall, I would say take his class for sure
Wasn't very understanding when I was absent or when grade wasn't liked. Lectures were very paper heavy and oriented
disorganized class
Professor Kerr was very lecture heavy
The lectures are boring, and they don't explain things well at all. Grading is super unfair, and they don't seem to care if students are struggling. I left every class more confused than when I came in. Honestly, would not recommend.
I took him over J Term. Very simple class, allowed me to resubmit assignments if I did them incorrectly. Overall, very lenient and his lectures held a lot of substance. Asynchronous learning
Really great class and super interesting he cares about the students and makes sure you get the material and do well. I was confused by his rating and then I saw that there are like 50 posts on one day march 9th this year and it seems that one person really didn't like him and that seemed like bullying cause he really is as good as it gets here.
Very chill professor like any other 101 class it has a few papers and some reading. He's very nice overall and pretty helpful when i needed help on assignments.
Hes so weird and rude when questions are asked. do not take
I enjoyed taking Professor.Keith fall 2024. He is very funny and makes class interesting so you'll never be bored all the time... He does dive deep into controversial topics so if you don't have tough skin then he's not the professor for you. The work he assigns is also very light as he barely assigns work, but make sure to take notes!!!!
Professor Kerr is a cool guy. He makes the lectures interesting and easy to follow. He's accessible outside class and provides good feedback to help you succeed. 3 big writing assignments for the class, but they were not difficult at all. As long as you show up for daily attendance, you should have nothing to worry about.
Class was easy; attendance based grades and assignments, and a few other assignments. The professor is a weirdo and will lecture about random and sometimes inappropriate topics. Class is not very justice based. He is a very easy grader and is open to communication. If you can deal with him take him its an easy class, but I wouldn't take him again.
