A very clear professor. He writes all of his lecture notes on the board so you always know exactly what to study for the exams. Likes to wear tapered jeans with airwalks during his office hours (great sense of stytle). He rather looks like an owl. Very helpful as long as you ask for his input.

Take the class its fun, easy, and it looks good on your transcipt.
Just another liberal professor pushing his agenda. If you didn't agree with him and you couldn't argue well, he made you look stupid. (i.e., he made ME look stupid)
Loved this class!!!! A real eye opener!! He could use some brushing up on other religions tho
Blahhhh. He can teach but stop the preaching seriously. I mean, it's like he wants to bea minister, of Scientology or something though. Kinda strange. Talks like Tom Hanks.
i loved this class. he's the head of the philosophy department at UL. he's very grounded and the people that he makes look stupid often spit opinions or beliefs that don't make much sense. he's a nice guy and will work with you.
great!
Keith is a very good teacher with the following exceptions: 1-His religious views (Atheism) seem to direct the focus of his teaching.2- Class seems constructed to eliminate other religious viewpoints as viable alternatives. 3- Has a hangup with disproving moral relativism.
This guy is an idiot. Never take his classes. He is on some kind of trip -- avoid.
Anyone who thinks bad of Dr. Korcz's classes need to get their heads examined and see reality for what it is.
his class was very easy to do well in if you tried at all. he's funny and interesting. he's patient with people that don't get it and has a great way of shooting down smart-ass overly stubborn "philosophers." i would take every class he taught if i could.
I had A's and B's at this university before walking into his class. He doesn't want you to learn, he expects you to memorize. The amount of reading we had to do was truly ridiculous. I've now received my first C ever and regret that I took this class. If you need to fill a humanities class don't take a philosophy class, especially his!
ehh, the class was alright given the subject, but he isn't open-minded as he should be for someone of his stature (head of dept.) unless you agreed with him he would turn a deaf ear to you, and it showed.
Dr Korcz's class (like most PHIL classes) are a lot different from other humanities classes. It does require good amount of studying/reading from notes and textbook.Material is a bit challenging, but makes you wiser in life. Regardless of ideas/beliefs, he is very helpful and kind and has no prob if you go to his office or email him for help.
He does tend to impose his own religious beliefs (or lack thereof) upon you, yet after a class with Berkely, this guy was an angel. does'nt really require much reading, rather the knowledge that you had showed interest in reading(vomit examples on the test). very intelligent, many extra point opps and is extremely helpful. I really suggest his clas
He's an alright teacher. He is very narrow minded and likes to impose his views as the correct way to go. His class is good and the stuff he teachs is good but the way he presents each view is alittle biased.
Dr. Korcz is one amazing professor! He is one of the most enlightening professors I have had in a very long time! He is completely there for his students and is very organized and prepared! He also presents many extra point opportunities to boost your grade! Dr. Korcz (IMO) is keeping the integrity and the light of the PHIL program at ULL alive!
Dr. Korcz excels in his talent for clarity and organization. He is very friendly and consistently demonstrates concern for the understanding of his students. I highly recommend this course. Note: this class is not intended for first time philosophy students.
Good teacher. He is clear and gives lots of examples including diagrams, cartoons, and charts as memory aids. He writes all the notes on the board in outline format. There's tons of extra credit, and I made well over 100 in the class. Do the study guide and read over the notes once before the test, and you'll do great!
Interesting and enthralling. I thought I'd do terribly in this class, but all you have to do is comprehend the material. Ask questions and study a lot! First test is the toughest. 3 tests, no papers. Gives extra credit! He knows his material and I gained insight on business ethics. Take him, but expect to study. He's totally cool and funny.
you MUST take him if given the chance...I had 25 bonus points by the end of the semester and finished with over 100 in the class..and it was really interesting. PHIL is usually hard but with him as a prof, its actually enjoyable.
The class is really boring but easy. If you go to class and take notes you will pass. There is no textbook just readings/articles you can get online. He gives you a study guide for each test and if you know everything on it you will ace the test. He gives alot of bonus points and every test has 3-4 bonus questions worth 11-15 points each. EASY A!!!
My suggestion: Do not argue anything with what he say. Just memorize on the Study Guide. That's all. You won't need to argue anything because you will move on next semester, but he won't, he has been here for a long time (He has been in UL since 1995)would you think he will leave? So.just pass this class with a grade, no argument.
This class was RIDICULOUSLY EASY! All you have to do is show up, take all the notes that he puts up on the board then when he gives the study guide for an exam, just be able to answer all of the questions on it (comes from your notes) and you are golden. I made a 100 on both exams.
I took this class solely by choice. I enjoyed learning the concepts of practical argumentation but my grades never reflected it. I busted my butt to even make B's and I barely even got there. He is strict on his take home quizzes. i've never felt so much frustration in one class.
Made the class more interesting than I had expected it to be. Good teacher and is very clear in his arguments. However, do not try to argue with him, there's simply no winning. Unless you want to, it will be entertaining for fellow students.
He's organized to a fault. Memorize the arguments in detail and get a buddy to memorize with, it helps. He's a dirty, dirty idealist, so account for that slant when he's talking about stuff.
Stay away talks and talks take this class way to seriously dont take him
Dr. Korcz is the bee's knee's yo. Just show up, take notes, and participate, and you'll get an awesome grade. And be sure to use the study guides he gives!
COME TO CLASS! He gives lots of notes everyday, but his notes are everything you need for the tests! He even gives you a study guide for each test so that you know what to focus on. If you can't attend class everyday, then don't take this class. Examples and discussions are given in class for the tests. Super awesome teacher!
Overall, he is a great professor;I would recommend him to anyone(taken him a few times). He is smart, very nice, extremely organized, and wants to educate students. Class is sort of mandatory since the notes are only given in class and make up the test. The one knock on him is that he can let his beliefs show, which he should never do in class.
awesome professor!!! test are really easy if you spend just a lil time studying. Study guide very helpful. only hard part if the paper but other than that very interesting. Explains everything very clearly and will take all the time needed to address any disagreement you may have. Very intelligent man, they obviously made him dept head for a reason
He is extremely difficult, and expects a lot out of his students from day one. I would not recommend this class to anyone who does not have prior knowledge of the subject matter.
very difficult professor, but you learn a lot. tests require A LOT of memorization and attentiveness in class. overall, the class killed me, but i would recommend it.
You must Take Dr Korcz- he is so laid back and his test are very straight forward! A real! He gives you a study guide with the EXACT material on the test, nothing tricky- loves to debate in class and he is always neutral. MUST GO TO CLASS TO PASS because all test are straight from your outline notes. But the class is interesting so its not hard.
BEST PHIL TEACHER TO TAKE. Two test and one final. One extra-point assignment. No homework. Lectures the whole time. Attendance is mandatory. If you miss one class, you are very behind. Gives study guide before every test and study guide is word-for-word what is on the test. He is a nerd, very intelligent and respects students opinions.
I learned a lot in his class. There were 3 tests (including the final) and a 10-15 page paper. He encouraged debate which made the class more bearable. He also takes improvement into account (for example if you get a C on the first test and then get As after that, he gives you an A in the class.) The lectures are basically the test! Great class!
Dr. Korcz is great. He is incredibly laid back and thoroughly enjoys what he teaches. Also, he is vastly knowledgeable on many topics. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to get something out their Phil class.
This was an easy enough class. If you improve your first grade doesn't matter. This class was boring but he gives a decent study guide. He's a nice guy, not always the friendliest. Do not buy a book.
Great class! Makes you think.
If you're conservative, you'll hate him. If you're liberal you'll love him. Whatever your ideology, you won't learn anything. Easy A, VERY EASY A. But annoying as all get out.
He's not too bad. Sometimes he can be boring, along with the material, but he usually has interesting examples when explaining a concept. No textbook is needed, he posts his own textbook online. Tests aren't too difficult either, but if you don't go to class/take notes/pay attention then good luck.
Encourages you to look into things yourself, his lectures scratch the surface of many problems. However, his lectures do give you great starting points and cover the main issues within what you will be discussing. Attendance is essentially mandatory if you want to keep your grade. Can be a tough grader sometimes on the written short answers.
Absolutely amazing. I got an A with simple studying, but he honestly made it so interesting that I would call home just to talk about all the information that had been presented to me. Slightly liberal, everyone saying he's a hardcore liberal is just butthurt. He's practically unpartisan and presents the facts well.
Easy, easy A. For all three of the tests, I studied the night before and got an A on each. He only has one extra credit assignment which is mandatory, but other than that, there's not much work because the tests are each 1/3 of your grade. He gives a lot of interesting examples.
Dr. Korcz runs his class strictly on lectures. His tests reflect material taught in class, as well as mandatory reading assignments. They always contain 3 short answer questions worth 20 points each, which significantly affect your score if you dont understand it. He generally grades these sections strictly too.
Great guy, great professor. If you take PHIL 316 be prepared for the intellectually-disabled population of UL to take over the class with their inane and circular questions. Watching Dr. Korcz expertly mold ill-formed questions into something coherent enough to answer is painful in extended doses. Idk how he does it.
There is no textbook, so if you miss class or do not take notes, you're screwed. BUT, if you use his study guide and study hard before each test, you should do fine. Only two tests and a cumulative final.
So i took him for this class and he was a good teacher for someone who hasn't taken a philosophy course. You will have seven quizzes and 3 exams. With some extra credit assignment. But for me this class was tough i didn't know much about philosophy. But Professor Korcz was okay, he expected you to know everything. Also some questions are worded bad
Nice guy and easy A! Study guides before exams.
There were only 3 tests and then some take home quizzes, so definitely graded on very few things. If you study the multiple choice parts arent too bad, but you have to make sure you answer what he wants you to for the short answer (and its very specific). Best bet is to email him and double check youre doing everything right.
only 3 tests, 0 homework, "mandatory extra credit" whatever that means. Would never take again>
Hardest class I ever have taken. Our first exam he sent out an email that only 9 people passed and everyone else got Fs. And the 9 people who passed were mainly Ds. Take at your own risk. People who are saying its easy are probably already familiar with ethics.
From what I can tell, most people fail Dr. Korcz's exams (and therefore classes) because they either do not show up to class or do not take notes. If you do either of those things, however, his exams are very understandable (he hands out a study guide that comes directly from lectures and readings). He's very helpful in office hours. A great prof.
Loved this class. Some topics were very abstract but he does a good job of explaining them well enough for a test. Provides study guides, if you (genuinely) know whats on the study guide youll do fine. Paper was difficult but he goes easy on grading them in my opinion. Good luck if you miss the lectures lol
You will not have time to listen to him and write detailed notes. Very fast and messy handwriting, with consistent acronyms that he will go over once. First test 75% of students received a D or lower, and proceeds to blame it on students not being prepared when it is his job to prepare the students. 10/10 would not recommend. Terrible
Mandatory extra credit on a topic that was over 40 years ago. I used credible sources from the man who led the movement, and he gave me half credit saying "irrelevant source",when he led the movement. He'll be the teacher who teaches about irrelevant topics from the 1800's then continue to say my source from 1970 isn't credible. UL's library system
Absolutely the worst teacher i've taken at the university. First test at least 75 percent of the class received an F and he made a comment while smiling and laughing that said "guess you guys need to study better." his test are out of 350 points and he only gives three. No homework, no quizzes, only test. Would not recommend for any student ever.
He gives out a study guide and the test questions are basically copied from the study guide. Bonus questions on every test mean you can get almost 20% of the questions wrong and still get an A. The extra-credit assignment helps out a little bit too. He talks a little fast sometimes, but everything you need is written on the chalk board. Easy A.
this guy just effin sucks. "required extra credit"??? tf is that man
Only 3 tests, each out of 250 points. He goes over information from start to finish each class & pretty quickly. It is difficult to write detailed notes and listen to him at the same time. You look up and he's already two topics ahead. Study guide format is awful, just a paragraph of questions. Idk, just too serious for a 100 level course. 0/10.
Really knowledgeable and interesting professor! This was a very interesting class. Helps you see the world more clearly and accurately. You may be turned off by his mechanistic take on the world, but he argues well for it. As long as you go to class and take good notes you should do well.
I like him alot. Very clear on what the guidelines for grading are on his site. He's pretty funny. Attend class or you likely wont pass. Lecture heavy, but easy to follow. Tests are easy. Know the answers to the questions on his study guide, and you will get an A.
Great guy, but this class in my opinion is way too much for an intro level course. He expects you to keep up with different readings for each class, on top of the textbook readings and whatever "mandatory extra credit" or essay he assigns. Just too much. Wouldn't really recommend this class as an easy elective, adds more stress than it's worth.
He is an intelligent man and knows alot about philosophy, but if you are looking for an easy history elective and you have no prior interest/knowledge about philosophy, I do not suggest. Just because it is an intro course does not mean he wont teach you a crap ton of philosophy at a fast pace. 2 extra credit assignments & 2 tests w/ a final.
You can study the guide the night before the exam and get an A. The only thing I disliked was the attendance policy. Putting the effort in to study for an A but missing 5+ days of class to start your final grade at a B is ridiculous as most professors understand students have bad days and will skip class.
Go to lectures, and pay attention. I got over 100 on all his exams, and missed a few classes, but still got an A. (Don't read more than necessary! Once he gave out study guides, I used the find tool on the online textbook to find what info he required for the exam. Towards the end of the class, I hadn't read a single one of the readings lol.)
Make sure you go to class! All of the notes are given in class and they correlate exactly to the test! Sweet and funny professor! Also gives study guide and bonus points with an assignment and on the tests!
Overall he is passionate and knows a lot about what he is teaching. This does not mean that the course will be easy, as a level 100 course, I found this course to be very heavy and time-consuming. He gives out required extra credit and his criteria can be confusing. He lectures a lot and you must be prepared to write a lot and keep at the same time
If you're taking this class as an easy elective, find something else or a different professor. Attendance is MANDATORY miss 5 classes he drops you a letter grade. Doesn't post his notes/ his handwriting is a little hard to read sometimes, only 3 exams, and 1 mandatory bonus that he will grade tough. study guides didn't help much had to use quizlet
Would not recommend taking this class. He grades super rough and gives a count of the how many students made what grade and hardly any of them are an A or B. Very strict on attendance and if you miss like 5 classes he drops your grade down. Test are long and hard and so is the course material he goes over.
Go to class and do the study guide and you'll be fine. Test questions are straight from the study guide. There's a mandatory "extra credit" assignment that you have to do or you'll fail, but getting more than 10 points is nearly impossible. You have to pay attention in class because his handwriting isn't always legible. Overall it's a decent class
Super tough grader, especially on essays. Lectures were long and boring. Attendance is mandatory, but not for grade. You have to study every single night in order to do good on his test. 2 tests (250 pts each) & final exam (300 points). You have to write a paper about if God exists or not. which is worth 200 points. Semester total points was 1,000.
This class was lecture heavy, and missing may mean you miss a lot of important information. He gives a mandatory extra credit with the potential for 30 extra points, but expect 20 or below no matter if you follow his example or not. This class only has 3 test, and failing one can cause you to fail. His handwriting can also be hard to understand.
only grade=3 exams. on bonus paper, ask him2 read over it! want an A, write the answers to the study guide from your class notes and memorize! Exams are 3 written responses and the rest multiple choice. usually a few bonus. easy to me since I memorized using flashcards. over half my class failed. very helpful in office hours-nobody used. AVOID HIM.
this professor is literally the worst person ever and I wish I could go back in time just to never take this class. its all subjective and according to his thoughts, but if you disagree with his answer you cant defend yourself. the textbook is mandatory but he says its wrong multiple times. he doesn't care to help students even when the class fails
Attendance is MANDATORY. Do not be late. The rest are exactly like the study guide given. Be prepared to study and understand the material. You will not pass if you just wing it.
If you want an arrogant teacher who finds a way to bring up his Ph.D. in every class, cites his own articles on the tests, and grades his tests on if he agrees with you or not then he is your perfect professor!!!
He has 3 tests and an extra credit assignment. Attend every class and write his notes word for word. The study guide is the class's Bible. Can't bash him personally here, but the beliefs that he implements into his class are just awful and are treated as the truth. Avoid him completely- Take Saloom if you need a Phil 316 credit.
If you plan on taking korcz, I hope you like not knowing your grade in his class the entire semester. He grades papers and gives them back and without knowing how anything is weighted you have to try and guess to see what you have. upon many other bad qualities of this guy, just stay away. Far, far away.
This class was challenging, but very rewarding. Dr. Korcz is an entertaining professor. He gives a study guide for every test and will will give feedback on your answers if you ask him. Even though the tests are tough, there are opportunities for bonus points. This was my favorite class, but be prepared to put in the work!
First of all, Dr. Korcz is a very smart guy and his grading is not unreasonable. My biggest problem with Dr. Korcz is that he sometimes argues in bad faith. As an example, he will take a Bible verse meant to be taken figuratively and compare it to one meant to be taken literally and then call it a contradiction. Don't be afraid to challenge him.
only 4 grades total. 3 exams and a required extra credit. exams? hellish. extra credi? worse. HORRIBLE CLASS. cool guy but never take his class. You will have to teach yourself. Just talks for an hour, no explanations or examples. never lets you out of class on time.EVER. do not recommend. avoid class and professor AT ALL COSTS. LORD HAVE MERCY.
Good luck.
RUN! I would have rather dropped the class and taken it another semester, than stick out the rest of the semester. His class is literally just his opinions on a test. If you miss 5 or more classes, your grade will drop a letter. Tests are extremely difficult; I would not recommend his class at all.
I believe his passion for his work gives him an ego. Very critical on any written response on assignments/exams. If you do not repeat what he says verbatim in class, he will deduct points. Grading is also really weird? Thought I scored a good grade and I actually had a C, even with all multiple choice correct. Sweet man, but wouldn't take again.
