While he does not sacrifice the standards pronounced by the division chair, he does bend them and goes out of his way to keep the class from becoming an utter drudgery, he will read and grade and return to you anything you write that you have to turn in.

Don't go into this class for an easy A! Do you know how shocked I was to see a C on my paper, complete with the threes and fives? He does leave comments on every paper, though, so you know how to improve. Bonus: discussion counts as part of the grade!

Very intelligent, very insightful .. yet he's more like a friend than a professor, always there when you need him.

This man is a genious- too much for his own good. I made a C but I worked hard for my C. He grade hard but he is fair. HE knows that you have a life outside of school. Amazing!!

Perry is a really cool professor to talk with, but he grades papers really hard. Your papers will come back looking like a war zone. He doesn't mind opinionated people who like to speak their minds, as long as you are respectful of others.

Tough teacher but grades fairly. Understands you have a life outside of school and will work with you, if needed. Always around to help you whenever you need it, too; he really makes himself available. Good teacher but wants to you to do your best to improve your writing so he can be tough.

Made my only D is this class...too technical in writing for me. I am just not interested or good enough at writing how he wanted it.

Dr. Perry is a great teacher, but his classes are pretty hard. He always helped me when i needed it though.

Teacher is good at what he does, and he will prepare you for the Regent's greatly. Made a C in the class but got the highest you could get on the Regent's.

Tough, but fair grader. Has interesting take on movies. Movie choices are interesting. The final was tough, but only because I get writer's cramp.

I WITHDREW..BROKE MY HEART! All you do in this class is write essays to prepare for the Regents exam. Go to class and write for 55 minutes. He is extremely hard on essays, and does not budge. Would have loved to have said I PASSED PERRY!!! Maybe I'll try again one day...

Welcome to college people! High school was the place to make an easy A. Dr. Perry's class challenges the human mind. It's great! He is VERY helpful but you must ask for help. I came out of his class with a strong B. Good Luck and work hard

I don't know why everybody on here gives him such a hard time. Sure he's tough, but everytime I had a problem I just asked and he explained. He expects you to work harder than anybody else at Dalton, but his job is to help you improve, right?

The people who don't like Perry are those who are looking for an easy A. Perry makes you EARN every single grade that you get. If you are a person who is not willing to work hard, then DO NOT take his class. But I loved the class and ended up with an A, so it is possible.

I Loved Dr. Perry. I hate writing essays, but he made it fun. Summer semester went too fast. Enjoyed him so much, that I am taking 1102 with him next Spring.

Right now I am struggling a lot in his class. The essay grading is very strict, and I only got into his class because one of the college advisors said that it would be "fun" blah! The Type I test was brutal, but he does clarify what you have to do on essays in order to get a good grade. I suggest you take his class if you are a VERY good writer.

He is an extremely hard proffesor. I made my only B in two years of college in his class. However, I improved my writing considerably thanks to his strict grading.

I had never made <B on a paper b4 this class! He does help when needed, but I went to get my paper revised, & did everyting he told me & still didn't bring my grade up much! If I had more time 2 contribute 2 this class, & along w/ his help, I could possibly make a better grade, but I'm not an English major! I like him but wouldn't recommend him

His class was awesome. The type-I test is pretty brutal. But even if you do bomb it, you can still bring your grade back up with all of the other essays. He is very fair in grading. He sticks to DSC's guidelines, not his own. He likes reading funny papers, this isn't high school anymore. (Just don't write about Pokemon lol.)

VERY HARD. He really frustrated me at the beginning of the semester. I have always made straight As and then miserably failed the Type-1 error test. He grades the essays very difficultly and expects the best. He has been hard, but I have become a better writer. His class is not an easy A for sure!!

So many of you are referring to the good grades you made in high school.THIS ISN'T HIGH SCHOOL & I can guarantee that Perry is a more accurate judge than high school teachers of what your true grade should be.Every assignment was outlined and explained well, and he was extremely helpful in the office meeting for out-of-class essays.Great professor.

I had two teachers from my high school grade my paper before i turned it in and still made a B-. He is the hardest essay grader at DSC, he said it himself. Might be ok for an upper level english class but not film as lit! he is impossible to please.

He is at the top of his peers. He is rivaled only by one other prof there. If you show up to every class (not mandatory though), and if you participate in class, showing him that you're learning, you will do just fine. Your essay grades do not necessarily reflect your final grades. You can make all c's or worse on essays and still pass with a good grade. My favorite English prof by far!!! If you don't like him, it's not his fault--blame your inability to form an original thought!

Super Hard teacher. He expects you to write his way, and his way is very dry and boring. He often brags that he has never given an A and never will. No one earns an A in his class, drop now and get Mathews, Mahoney, or Trice

DIFFICULT DIFFICULT! Dr Perry is an amazing teacher. He grades tough but prepares you for what he wants. Just pay attention and ask for help over and over and over again. Write your essays then edit them again, then show them to him, and edit them two more times. The harder you work the better the grade! I don't recommend him to whiners.

Great professor! I love Dr. Perry. He's helpful and wants students to learn and succeed. I've taken him 3 times and received 2 A's and 1 B. If you have any questions at all he's available during his posted office hours and eager to help. He's tough, but I recommend him.

I wish we had more up to date things to write about instead of old plays an poems but overall a good teacher. I like that there are no test or quizes just papers.

Tough class. Dr Perry told us up front that in 20 years of teaching, he'd only given 2 A+'s and that if you wanted an easy A then you should withdraw and take someone else. That being said, he is fair and just a really cool guy; I've very much enjoyed his class. There's one essay left before this semester is over and I hope to earn the 3rd A+.

This will not be a goof off class! Dr. Perry is tough, but he is very clear about his expectations. His grading style is unique because he reads/grades papers in front of the submitting student. This provides an opportunity for instant feedback. It is very tough to get a good grade, but his feedback can be used to improve grades.

Excellent course and professor. My class was relatively small, 7 or 8 students, so we really had a great experience with Dr. Perry. He always helped us review our essays multiple times to insure a good grade, but to also make sure we understood the story or poem and how our essay was to pertain to it.

Worst and toughest teacher at dsc! If you love English and like a challenge then he's the teacher for you but otherwise do not take him. grades unfairly. NO BUENO! I've never failed English until i had him.

Everyone seems to be upset that they didn't make a good grade. Dr. Perry is tough, but if you want a good grade, write better papers. Don't blame him for your short-comings. He's awesome and brilliant. I would recommend him for every English glass, especially if you want to actually learn instead of just getting an "easy A." This isn't high school.

Dr. Perry is extremely hard to please. Because of this, you will become a better writer. Isn't that the point?Take the criticism, use it to better yourself, and be grateful.

Dr. Perry has no tolerance for BS or laziness. He makes clear what he expects from you, and you can either do the work and pass or slack off and fail. I like him because he doesn't give arbitrary assignments or busy-work. He's laid back and extremely practical.

Dr. Perry was extremely helpful. He makes what you need to know very clear, and if you still don't know what you are doing, he is almost always free to ask as many questions as needed. He is a tough grader, but he is just honest and only wants you to get better. He is really funny without trying hard, and he keeps you interested in what he says.

His class was fun! Our senses of humor got on well, so I enjoyed his class very much. He assigned us four papers, with the last one being a research paper, but he's a good grader as long as your presence is heard in class and your paper is both engaging and well-written

He is a good teacher but tough grader. His class was always entertaining and he has a good sense of humor. He will help you out and try to make things easy for you to understand. It was my first time writing a certain essay style but he made sure we knew what to do.

Most people wouldnt enjoy his class but I did. Its all about your preference. He is really fair in grading which I like because I wanted to improve my writing skills. He is straight to the point. As long as you follow his structure and explains to you exactly how he wants your paper to be, you should be fine. Hes funny too and thats a plus!

I LOVED this class. Although many people despised this class, this professor made it worth it! He has a dry sense of humor that is easy to click with, and he really cares about his students and their success.

Dr. Perry was awesome. He is very laid back and is really just trying to teach you in a way that is not boring. He is extremely straight forward, which in my opinion was not bad this past semester. He's helpful and accessible in his office. A lot of people say he is a tough grader but I think he's clear in what he expects.

I absolutely adored ENG1101 with Dr. Perry and am currently enrolled in his ENG1102 class. He's a blast to learn from and I can definitely tell you that I have learned what a comma splice is by the end of his class

He's like an awkward funny, I didn't have a problem just make sure to go his workshops and actually ask questions whether they're silly or not so it can make your life easier. Other than that, he is easy to take compared to other teachers that drag out poetry and constant readings

I understand why so many people have trouble in his classes, but I thought he was amazing. He was very funny and always joking with us. He would also help us when we needed it and was always ready to show us what he wanted. He would also help us by letting us revise our work after an in person consultation with him for a better grade.
