Listen to lectures, read the book, You'll do fine! He's not intimidating at ALL so I wouldn't worry about any of that at all :-D
very interesting class, lectures are big part of exams, but still need to read the text

Nice guy. Always busy, so after class questions are pretty difficult to get answered. Tests are impossible. I love the class and the subject, but it's hard to survive. I would not take him again unfortunately.

Great guy really nice and cares for those around him. Did an in class toy drive and can drive and has card requests for any needing some love. Hard class, be sure you do the extra credit it will save you. One of the nicest profs i have had just make sure you get to know him.
Horrible Prof. Makes tests as difficult as possible.
Clearly a very good person (lots of community service projects, toy drives, etc.), but somewhat impatient (like most lawyers are). It's really annoying how he lectures using rhetorical questions, and his exams are extremely tough and tricky. If you do well in this class, though, you've learned the material, and it applies to real-life settings.
He is nice guy, but his class is too hard.
He is such a nice man. His class is the most interesting class I have ever been to and I can apply everything he says to every day life. He has great examples, and has office hours all the time, that I attend and they are very helpful. Just read the book like three times and you will have an A! I would take him again in a heartbeat.
His class is hard, but he is a great guy and even helped me with a legal issue outside of class
Lawyer=impatient. Sweet man with a sense of humor. Tests are hard but usually does math wrong and makes the test 70+ questions instead of 50 which gives a huge curve. Would def. take him again. Tests are difficult. Must read. Quizzes are fairly easy.
Mr. Swim is an awesome guy!! He is very nice and funny, but he is impatient. He is a lawyer so he doesn't mess around. His lectures are interesting and he goes straight from the book. His tests are extremely difficult but he always curves them. Pop tests are hard but there are so many of them to average bad grades out. Nice guy but hard tests!!
Swim was a pretty interesting prof. Entertaining and he knows his stuff! Must go to class... he would take random clicker quizzes and give random bonus points for attendance.I had a hard time in his class just cause there is so much information. Go to extra study sessions and A+ Tutoring if you can... those reviews help so much!
Rough teacher. Always seems to be in a bad mood unless it's Friday. Gives pop quizzes at least once a week and isn't very fair about his tests. Also does not curve tests or offer extra credit. I was so lucky to get a B. Definitely would not recommend.
Good guy enjoyed the class. Plan on spending a lot of time studying if you are going to make a B or above. Its not about just knowing the material>YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO APPLY IT TO A SITUATION. Tutoring services helped.
the 4 test are very hard the final was some what easy compared to the others though. his test are very tricky, i really didnt care for the class, just got my grade, an A. study your aggie butt off or else fail, avg on the first test was a 54%. you want my advice? read the book and know everything in the book nothing is irrelevant
Listen very carefully. This class is hard. Forget the book and MEMORIZE the outline word for word. Go to his class and right everything he says and record him!. 70% from outline and 30% from what he says. If you do both you'll get an A however, a B is very duoble. He gives a 10 point curve each test including the final as a built-in or a post curv
Class is hard but he curves each test around 10 points (built or after). The final and final grade are curved enourmously! The final is all repeated questions from older tests (review them!)He tends to give out Extra credit oppor. each semester that are worth 20 points. Tutoring will not help. You need to go to class and record everything he says.
Tough class, but rewarding. I got an A, but I studied about 15-20 hours per test plus the reading between classes. Know the book like the bible and pay close attention in class. Overall, interesting class, but difficult.
Swim's a great guy and very interesting. His lecture style and textbook are a little annoying, but if you study your notes, textbook, and study guide, you'll be alright. Don't slack or get behind!
He is really good prof! Liked the the class a lot!
Great professor and knows what he is talking about. Go to class and take notes, and you will do fine on the tests. One of my favorite professors at A&M.
Good guy. Gives a decent curve every test and has a big heart. He'll help you out if you ask for help. I didn't read the book, the study guide is a condensed version of it and was easier for me to get through. Seriously don't wait till the last minute to study for these tests.
He tries to trick you with seemingly insignificant technicalities on the tests. He doesn't test on if you know the basic concepts, he tests on if you know exactly what he/the text book said. I had never gotten a grade lower than a B before taking his class and I got a D in his class. I wouldn't recommend him as a professor.
ALWAYS GO TO THE TAs OFFICE AFTER EACH EXAM. There is always more than one mistake and he doesn't really care. it is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken.
Hardest class I've taken at A&M. Swim likes to make jokes during class, but he gets angry easily & he's not afraid to call someone out in front of 300 students. I would absolutely recommend going to 4.0 if you want to pass his class. He does curve really well, which is nice. He's not a terrible prof, but the class is definitely a tough one.
Great teacher. Taught the subject crystal clear and let me argue my viewpoints always giving time for me to get out my side on the topic while keeping on track.
Swim is a great guy and makes lectures interesting and keeps your attention by cracking jokes throughout. Although this was the hardest class I've taken at A&M, I still ended the semester with a B. He is very generous at the end of the semester with curves. Take every bit of extra credit he gives and make sure you read and study a lot!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. The amount of homework he gives you is ridiculous and not necessary. One chapter 25 terms , 15 cases, and 48 essay questions. I am not exaggerating.
Expected-same as others say-HARD. Lectures are actually interesting & he explains most things well. Reading the study guide & skim the book to make sure nothing is missed. TESTS ARE TRICKY!! That's the key factor to this test. Must "think like Swim" to not get tripped up. 4.0 & Go can be helpful--but you still must remember to think like Swim.
Swim is a very good professor. I'd definitely take him again. He presents the subject matter in a way that keeps you interested. I'd STRONGLY recommend 4.0 and Go. The tutor for 211 is hilarious and he really knows his stuff. I didn't even take notes in class. I just listened attentively, and studied the study guide that was provided by 4.0 and Go.
Hes great, test will make you think. Read and reread if you want a decent grade. Go to class the lectures go over the material in the book and specific cases or info that he puts on the test.
Great guy overall. Charitable and cares about the success of his students. Be ready to study your butt off for a whole semester to receive high C's and low B's on tests. You will learn a ton and suffer a lot of pain while doing it.
He is very sarcastic and almost always in a bad mood or complaining about something. His class is required and he makes it a lot harder than it should be. It's doable, but it requires a lot of time and memorizing. Be prepared to have to study a lot. There are quizzes each week and they make up a good majority of the final grade which helps.
I like the material and Swim is a great, kind professor underneath his tough act and extremely dry sense of humor. But the tests are SO tricky and I absolutely dread them! You have to stay on top of the material (book is essential) as you learn it to do well on the test. do not try to cram. Overall a doable, but tough class.
Good professor but makes the class 100x harder than it has to be. If you dont read the textbook, go to 4.0 and study for 10+ hours you really dont even have a chance
Tests get harder as you go & final is cumulative. He loves trick questions so read carefully & know the stuff well. You NEED the textbook. Take notes on the study guide. He posts all lectures online - go re-listen to them. He gives awesome examples to help understand concepts. Study before you take the online quizzes. Don't take his humor seriously
Keith Swim was the most frustrating professor I've ever had. His exams take the most irrelevant information from the textbook (that he wrote, and is filled with errors) and as a result you have to memorize the entire thing. 4.0 and Go definitely helped a lot with this class. I put in more time than any other class and did much worse.
There's no easy way around this class, it's tough. He does his best to prepare his students, but this is one of those classes that you just have to read a lot for and be very proactive in your studies. He is a good professor, and wants his students to succeed. Unfortunately, he is also not willing to give handouts. You'll get out what you put in!
Learn to swim (ha) or drown in your own sweat and tears. I don't know how to justify the reasoning behind administering 15-min quiz with 40 questions. He has handled capital murder cases, so he's intense. Won't pass w/o dedication and READING. ALL exam answers: "A, B, C, All the Above, A & C not B". Get ready to panic. You will at some point...
He is a very good lecturer, but the class itself is hard. Swim knows what he is talking about. The tests are long and can be pretty tricky.
The tests are difficult - plenty of A&B not C or all of the above answers (there are a lot of these), the final is cumulative, but Swim as a professor was Fantastic! He clearly states exactly how you need to study in order to pass the tests, and his lectures are riddled with humorous examples that clarify the material. Plus he answers questions!
Tough class. Swim comes off as a jerk, but deep down he is a really caring person and will help you out if needed. Gotta read the book AND go to class to pass. There are 4 tests and a cumulative final, so make sure to actually learn the material as you go. Answer choices on the tests will make you second guess yourself (little details)
There were 5 tests in this class including a 100 question, multiple choice, cumulative final. There are tests almost every 2 weeks, & they are usually over 100 plus pages of material. Keith Swim knows his class is hard, and he brags about the low grades his students receive. So much material is covered in the class. Make sure you read the textbook.
Swim is an okay professor at best. His lectures are just okay. But what makes him bad in my opinion are his hard tests. His tests are essentially designed to trick you, and the averages always roam between 50s - 70s. Be prepared to do lots of reading. I ended up having a C average for his tests, and in the class. Avoid him if you can
He is easily offended and angered by what seems to be just about anything, he weighs his class on 4 multiple-correct answer choice tests, and a cumulative final. Along with some small-weighted online quizzes. Tests are ridiculously hard with an average of 50-65 on each, and each question is designed to trick you. Take Camille Hailey, better prof
Swim takes the management 211/209 class and adds a twist. It's definitely harder than it should be. In doing so, he makes sure you have a thorough understanding of the material. Basically if you're not willing to put your BEST effort, don't take him. If you like a challenge, Goodluck.
Mgmt 211 was the hardest class I have ever taken. I had been fully warned before taking this class with this professor that it would indeed be difficult. If you're taking minimum amount of hours with no other hard classes, you can probably do well. If you are taking harder classes and full course loads then work for the A and take the C.
I really wanted to like this class. Honestly. But Swim doesn't make it easy. The actual course material was interesting, and he's not even a bad lecturer, it's just his ridiculous tests. It's beyond testing to see if you learned and understood the material, it's CAN YOU THINK LIKE SWIM? If the answer is no, then good luck.
Very hard course, but if you put in the effort it is rewarding; I have a more thorough understanding of business law than I would have anticipated and it is extremely interesting. Swim can be tough but only because he cares about his course work. My advice? Take it over the summer, its way easier. Also get to know Swim, he'll help you out.
Absolutely DO not take Keith Swim for Mgmt 209! One of the worst profs ever! Tests are ridiculously difficult. Difficulty of his course would be appropriate for law students. Not appropriate for Business majors/minors . Take another prof at A&M. Or take BUSI 2371 at Blinn with professor Stiborra or another reasonable prof.
This class is hard. Much harder than it should be. The textbook is FILLED with errors, but you still have to read the textbook, study the outline, and re-listen to the lectures online because he tests over the smallest, most irrelevant details. Do the extra practice in the outline. Quizzes help your grade.
Swim is a really great professor. However, his tests are so tricky and full of information that it seems impossible to do good in this class. You must read the chapters from the book and the study guide. Do not wait until the last minute to study because there is no way that you will learn it all in time.
His test questions can be tricky, but he typically curves at the end of the semester. Read the book and basically memorize the study guide. He wasn't as bad as I was expecting but just prepare yourself for a LOT of study time.
Hardest class i've ever taken in my life. Quizzes in every class. You'd have to put in a solid 15+ hours of outside work to pass. The work load is ridiculous and makes the class seem way harder than it should be. Tests are very difficult to pass because the questions and answers are tricky and badly worded. Swim seems like a genuine man though.
This class is a lot of work and he even says this class requires more work than most other undergrad classes but if you put in the work it is not that bad. To do well in this class each week you need to watch the online lectures, read the textbook chapters, go through the study guide for the chapter, and study additionally for the weekly quiz
People are quick to hate on Swim's class but it was a great experience. Probably the best professor I've had so far. Is it an easy class? No, not by any means. but that doesn't mean Swim is a bad teacher. You have to actually read the textbook, and study the study guide and so on. If you put in the work you'll get at least a B.
This class is a killer. You have to know detail and understand this course VERY well. The tests are extremely difficult and one word could change the entire meaning to a question. Although this class is difficult, Swim is an awesome professor and really wants his students to understand and know the material. Would never take this class again though
Be prepared to study like you never have before. Making charts really helped me relate and learn all of the concepts. Also tutoring, personal and 4.0 and go. Tests are difficult, the hardest I've ever taken. Swim has a short fuse, but he is a good person and professor. I wish I could take this class again and do better from the get-go.
People make class out to be harder than it actually is. If you listen to the online lectures and take notes, then do the study guide for tests you'll be golden. Quizlet helps too. If you go to class every week and get at least a 60% on the quizzes you'll definitely accumulate the necessary 200 points (i.e. free 100% on 20% of total grade). Curves.
Swim is honestly a cool guy but I've never worked so hard in a class. The tests can be painful - but if you work hard, you'll pass. I enjoyed his lectures because got jokes. Get the book & study guide because you WON'T pass w/o reading. I would have enjoyed if it hadn't been so harsh. Just get ready to work hard & Good luck. You'll make it.
The easiest way to ensure you make a B in this class is to listen to the online lectures and take notes in the study guide. 4.0 and Go helps immensely (can't stress this enough). The tests try to trick you on every problem but if you understand the material you should be okay. Swim is pretty chill to. Read before class
Extremely hard class, but Swim isn't absolutely terrible. Your grade is COMPLETELY up to how much time you are willing to put in. I read all chapters, did every study guide, watched all lectures, and took notes. If you do that, you will for sure get a B and hopefully an A. But, if you don't prepare ahead of time or stay on top of it, forget it.
Swim is probably the most interesting lecturer I've ever had. His class is very difficult, but manageable if you stay on top of it. Read, highlight, and annotate the textbook; re-listen to the lectures online; and answer all the study guide questions, and you should be fine. It can be a very enjoyable class if you find the material interesting.
I took 211 over the summer. A+ decision! There's no chance to forget anything. I got a mid-C with my test grades being a 62, 50, 68, 74, and final being a 72. I started doing better once I listened to the online lectures and took notes on them after class. Quizlet helped a lot. I had my DG dad read the outlines out loud too. Test q's are recycled.
You CAN pass this class. I CAN run without shoes on, but I'm not gonna. If you want to feel like you're enrolled part time in law school, rather than in a 3hr business minor class, by all means, take Swim. If you're a normal human being, take Hailey. Simple. Also, he's just annoying. Tried to accuse 30+ kids of academic dishonesty. In one class.
Okay so here's the deal- if you can't get out of taking Swim (like myself) you can at least give yourself a pat on the back when you've made it through. Luckily he curves his tests (12 points in one scenario). DO THE STUDY GUIDES and go see the TAs to review tests before the final. He uses some of the exact same questions from old tests.
Boring and unengaging lectures belie a professor who is better in a courtroom than a classroom. His wealth of knowledge is largely overshadowed by his inability to connect with students, and his monopoly over this particular course coupled with the drastic curves he hands out are assuredly the only reasons he has yet to be summarily terminated.
I have no words for how difficult this class is. DO NOT take this class with swim unless it's your only option. I do have to say though besides the difficulty of the class he is a nice and caring man for things outside of the class. To his students, however, he comes off VERY rude.
His exam questions are either difficult scenarios, or the fine details of each thing you're supposed to know. He acts as if you're attempting to get into law school or prep for a bar exam or something with this class. Most work I've ever put into a minor class. Thank god for 4.0 & Go.
Keith Swim is a nice guy to his community. He constantly goes out of his way to give back to those in need and obviously has a kind heart. That makes his personality in class entirely shocking. He cares about students, too, but makes his class WAY too difficult and definitely makes political comments he shouldn't. Comes off as a bigot.
Currently studying a 400 page study guide for his final. Avoid swim at all costs. Never made a C in a class until possibly now. Basically like you are in a part time law school. If you have any other hard classes don't take him. The 3rd tests study guide alone was 180 pages. All points are from in class work. 50 question T/F quizzes in 12 mins.
Tests are very specific. Must know every detail about everything that ever came out of his mouth or that is in his book. He is a nice guy but takes his class very seriously and makes it WAY harder than it should be. I have never taken a class this hard and it takes a lot of work to even pass his tests. If you decided to take him, good luck!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Im sure Swim is a good person outside of the classroom but I would never wish his teaching upon anybody. The rigor of this class is ridiculous for a business minor. Tests feel impossible with small details and multiple answer options. Class averages for tests range from 40s-60s. Its ridiculous. Avoid at all costs.
The difficulty of this class is completely blown out of proportion. I got a B in the course with test grades after the test curves of 65, 63, 73, 73. Averaged 60 on all of the in class quizzes as well. I studied Quizlet and the Study Guide about 2 days prior to every test and did fine. 4.0 and Go is not necessary in my opinion.
learned a lot but get ready to work. watch all of the lectures and take notes, read the study guides in the back of the book. study hard for exams and you should be fine. i dont know what happened but everyone in our class groupme got a good 20 points less on the final than their exam average but he curves your final grade. study hard you'll be ok
Exam scores63,66,100,76. Final exam63. Final avgB. Pt system is used for grade calculation. No tutor. Just self-study. I copied SG for each chapter first, then I added my own notes from the online lectures for each chapter. Studied my notebook every week before in-class online quiz &test. Guessed on final exam. Got 200 max pts for quizzes.
Swim's quizzes and exams are ridiculously difficult, and his lectures don't give a clear indication of the level of familiarity with the material that he expects on exams. I had low C test and quiz averages and wound up with a B, so he does curve, but not until the very end
DO NOT DROP, he curves after drop date. Tests are extremly difficult, there is a 40-50 questions quiz every week and you have 12 mins to complete it. This is not a class where you can study last minute and pass the exams, but it is passable. I had a 60 average on the exams, and around the same on the quizzes and made a C overall. Go to office hours
Class is very heavily weighted on the tests and the tests are set up like A) B) C) D) A and B E) Everything but A and on top of that the tests ask questions that are very specific so you really need to know the material inside and out Good luck in this class
i dont think this man is going to curve our mgmt 211 section 501 class since all our test averages have been 69's feels badman
Super interesting guy, Tests are not insanely hard if you study well and read the study guide, just an overall tough class because of the material and the amount of stuff you have to know
MGMT 211 is one of the most challenging courses you will ever take. Extremely hard to do with multiple courses to also study for but your grade really is up to you. Most people just take it at Blinn but challenge yourself and take it with Swim. You will learn a lot and be happy you took the course. Don't let MGMT 209 scare you, this class is doable
MGMT 211 is a lot more rigorous than MGMT 209. With that being said, don't listen to 209 tell you about the curve they got and how they all got "A's" and "B's" and "really enjoyed the class!" It is not like that for 211. We are tested over more material and do not receive curves of 10+ points unlike 209. Class is interesting but it is very HARD.
For an attorney, Swim's a very unprofessional man whose lack of attention to detail will drive you insane. He was 10-15 minutes late to class every single day, made material typos on tests, and failed to print enough exams (and then grew impatient with US.) For all that he demands of his students, he doesn't seem to reciprocate the effort.
Not easy, but its not as hard as the majority of these reviews make it out to be. Effort really helps. The online lectures help tremendously, this was my number 1 studying tool. Majority of the material is interesting, and Swim does a great job of getting it across. Overall, quality class and professor.
You will hate this class. You have to pay attention to every word that comes out of his mouth and he will put chapters on test that he doesnt cover in class. Theres so many little things to know that it will drive you crazy. Me and my friend would take an over/under for how late he would be for every class.
Good and bad hombre at the same time, a true enigma. Class is a rite of passage in Mays, this class is the Darksouls of Mays. Are you ready to swim?
This class requires lots of reading and note taking by yourself since it is a lot of content and we had lectures once a week only. We had tricky T/F quizzes every class. Tests were multiple choice, but hard. Course based only on quizzes, 4 tests and a cumulative final.
Swim is exactly what his reputation made me think he was- a great prof that teaches a really challenging class. Go to every class, read the textbook cover to cover, rewatch his lectures, & do the questions in the study guide. 4.0 really helped. Very tough class, but it was interesting. Go to office hours & get to know him & he'll probably curve you
Okay, so this course and professor is awful. In all honesty, if you are able to you should transfer this course from Blinn. His lectures and the textbook (that he wrote) do not correlate with the exam questions, they just kind of focus on the same BROAD ideas. Basically, to do well you must devote your life to his course. Good Luck lol
Swim is tough, no sugar coating it. I got a B in my second try taking this class and this is easily a top 3 toughest class ive ever taken. You must read the textbook cover to cover and attend all lectures because he randomly assigns pop quizzes. However he does curve the class after the Q drop deadline.
He's not nearly as bad as people say. I got a high B and this class is what made me realize I wanted to go to law school. It's HARD, no doubt about it, but if you read the book, go to class, and actively try to understand the material, you'll be fine. You just can't expect to do half the work and get a good grade. You just have to put in the work.
Swim isn't a bad guy, his class is just super tough. You will read pretty much the whole textbook so get going on it now. Study A LOT for the exams and you'll do alright. It really just takes a lot of your time and even more effort.
Swim's class is definitely tough but I think is a super awesome guy who really cares about the materials. You have to go class to take quizzes that are pretty necessary to pass the class and I did the study guide and reading to get ready for the test. But he curves the class and each test. I got C's and D's on the test and made a B in the class.
Keith Swim's class is by FAR the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. I q-dropped the class right before the deadline because there was no way to pass, even though I studied SO much for each tests. DONT TAKE WITH HIM IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. He's a great professor and really cares about his students, but the class is so unbelievably hard.
Swim's class is tough and requires a lot of work outside of class, but it's doable. Bring the study guide to class & add lecture notes to it & listen to online lectures as much as possible. Read over your notes frequently and don't get behind. Tests are very detailed. Swim is very helpful in office hours and cares about students so get to know him!
Just no. I ended up dropping this class. Overall, he is a good professor but this class requires a ton of work. Do not take this class if you already have a heavy course load.
Swim's class is very difficult. I enjoyed it, but it's easily the hardest class I've ever taken. You need to go to class and also watch his lectures online, read the book, and his study guide, and review your notes constantly. Most of his test questions are "a and b" "b and c" "all of the above" "none of the above".
Swim is a good man, a good Aggie, and a strong Professor. Class isn't mandatory but you need to go to take a quiz. He gets a bad rap for being tough, but if you LISTEN TO LECTURES, DO THE BOOK STUDY GUIDE, and really put in the proper amount of work, you can get an A (or high B). The business info is truly valuable; work hard and you'll be okay.
Not the right professor to be teaching an intro course. Is knowledgeable in the material, but terrible teaching it and very jerkish. Tests are very specific and the only way of passing is memorizing the textbook (with multiple errors and false answers). The quizzes are 35 questions in 8 minutes. Our test avg was 52 each time. I had a 4.0 prior
Swim is a very knowledgable prof but also very hard. Tests are made to make you really think and trip you up. There are weekly quizzes that he gives 8-10 minutes for. Passing this class is very attainable as I got a 72, 73, 74 and 80 on the tests but ended with a B in the class.
This class has quite the reputation and definitely deserves it. My strategy for this class was to first take notes over his transcript lectures and then go through the textbook, making flashcards from both my notes and the textbook material. Using this strategy I was able to make 95, 94, 90, 74 on exams. Space out the work and DO NOT FALL BEHIND!!
test grades were 76,84,71,90 (final idk) and still made an A. Never went to 4.0 & Go! simply read the book, watched ALL the lecture videos (2-3x), used the study guide (CRUCIAL), and used quizlet to help practice vocab and court cases. Go in after every test and see what you did wrong bc you WILL see those ?s again on the final. KEEP UP W THE CLASS
This was the hardest class I have ever taken, and I'm pretty sure it will be the hardest class I will ever take. He does not seem interested in students doing well and if you ask questions he gets angry. You have to read to do well on the exams and study for days. Memorize minute details that seem unimportant, and you might do well.
Hard as heck, a very smart guy though. Lots of lectures and you have to go to class in order to actually learn. He is the final boss of Mays.
Swim is a great lecturer with hard tests. This course definitely requires A LOT of studying, but there is no daily work, so that is all you have to pay attention to. Best advice is don't get behind because its hard to catch up. Didn't really get anything out of going to class but you gotta go for the quizzes. Just read the study guide, not the book
Swim is a great professor overall His tests are pretty challenging overall but fair You need to read the book and the study guides he provides on top of watching his online lectures Nothing really important in the lectures but you have to go take quizzes that are worth 20 percent I would take again but not for those looking for an easy A
The hardest class I've taken by FAR. Please do yourself a favor and start reading the textbook now. Get ready to Swim.
take at blinn. class has tons of material to study for per test. cannot study the night before and pass. dont need to attend class technically since lectures are online. given study guides with textbook which are very helpful, but cannot rely soley on. do not take this course at tamu with other time consuming courses.
Legitimately took this for my Business Minor and this is hands down one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. It's not that the material is hard, but Swim makes it hard. His tests are meant to make sure you know the material like the back of your hand and if you don't you're not going to get it right. However, Swim genuinely cares
Swim is great and if you go in and talk to him he can be really helpful. You literally have to read the textbook cover to cover or your won't pass. You have to put in a lot of work for this class, but the material can be pretty interesting.
probably the worst teacher I have ever/will have. he expects you to know everything, like, before you even sign up for the class. he is rude when you go into office hours and tests are unreasonably hard. he could maybe be called a good person because he does a toy/food drive, but he guilts you into it. small extra credit and does curve. never again
The sheer volume of information is extremely daunting. Furthermore, it isn't limited to just general conceptual knowledge. You should expect to be able to recall 80% of the assigned chapter's details. This this class serves its purpose of introducing you to business law very effectively. I found the challenge to be personally rewarding. Good Luck
This class is without a doubt hard, but doable. Don't work on memorizing court cases or dates or anything. Understand concepts and be able to apply them. Swim's lectures can be helpful, but the textbook and study guide are the best way to study for the tests. The qs are random and don't necessarily focus on major topics. Study everything.
Normally when I take a difficult course I emerge with a lot of respect for the professor. In this case the course is challenging because it is poorly designed. In a class of this style (large lecture), teaching quality is irrelevant, what matters is providing an accurate assessment through high quality tests. Here Swim fails.
Interesting class, HARD tests. Swim comes off very rude and harsh in class, though is apparently a nice guy outside of class. Take notes in the study guide on things he says in class & don't miss class/quizzes. MUST study days or weeks in advance to do well. 4.0 and Go is your best shot at success. Just make it through Qdrop - he curves the class.
This class lived up to its reputation for sure. I like Swim, but i feel his course could be designed and taught differently. The students are expected to fail, not succeed. I worked my butt off for this class and only ended up with a B. Loved learning about the material - the tests were ridiculous however. 4.0 was very helpful imo.
Fall 2017: Exam scores63,66,100,76. Final exam63. Final avgB. Pt system is used for grade calculation. No tutor. Just self-study. I copied SG for each chapter first, then I put my own notes from the online lectures for each chapter. Studied my spiral every week before in-class online quiz & test. Guessed on final exam. Got 200 max pts for quizzes.
I love Professor Swim. He gives great and useful lectures that actually teach you things. The textbook is insanely long and he wrote it, so you need to learn the information. This is NOT a hard class, it is just a lot of memorizing facts and figures. There is nothing hard about this class, it is just impossible to memorize everything.
You take his class for the experience it is hard as could be but its like when you go to waffle house at 2am you dont go because its good food you go because its an amazing experience!!! 10/10 would recommend!!
Swim is a really smart guy. He gets a bad rep because people don't read or go to class and the complain when they don't do well. If you go to class, read the text book, and/or the study guide, YOU WILL DO FINE! If you have questions, go to office hours. He is a great prof who cares about his students and TAMU. Put in what you want to get out of it.
I always heard about Swim's reputation, "super hard, don't take him" so I decided to take it during the summer to just focus on this class. His test are very difficult but Swim is a great and helpful guy. I failed first 2 tests and went to talk to him about dropping but he just advised me to read the textbook. It worked and I got B's on test. READ!
If your only interaction is in class, youll have a fine time in his class. If for any reason you need to go by his office for help, its a different story entirely. Understanding is not a word I would use to describe him, and he follows rules exactly as written no matter the circumstances.
VERY hard tests, super specific questions over a ton of material. Also, not very understanding if you miss a quiz (even with an excuse)
Hybrid class. Lectures online, extremely detailed. Has lots of office hours. Attendance is not mandatory but if you go to class and take the quizzes it will help you. Curves the tests, some extra credit. Be prepared to put a LOT of work into this class. It is doable, I would recommend a tutor or a study group.
I'm sure you've already gathered that there are a lot of mixed views on Swim in terms of personality, but his personality shouldn't dictate how well you do. His lectures are coherent and there are plenty of resources available online that can further explain anything that is not made clear in class. Read the textbook and watch the videos on eCampus
Swim's class is a tough one, the exams are very difficult, best advice is to get a tutor to help, material shows up that is not mentioned either in the study guide or in class. Try to do well in the first 4 exams cause the finals is impossible to study for. Don't be scared to recalculate your grade he made a mistake on my grade went from F to C
Swim was a good teacher. It was a lot of work but what else is there to expect in a LAW class. His quizzes were literally yes or no and he gave like 30 questions in 6 mins, I always had a min left over. He was very accessible and he was tough because he knew what he expected. For those complaing, just be a better student and stop slacking!!
One of the toughest classes Ive been in. Didnt do great on the first test but passed the next 3. Go to all classes and take quizzes, it will help you a lot in the end. Always went over the study guide before the tests.
Honestly, he is the best professor at A&M. He understands what's going on and if you pay attention you will learn the truth and information is useful. Easy to learn from.
Amazing! You really need to work for an A. I learned so much with him. Read his transcripts before class so you know the topic, READ AHEAD. I cannot express the importance of this. Go to his office hours and 4.0 really really helps. Final is hard but he gives curve in almost all tests. He is the nicest person I have ever met, but you need to work
Prof Swim isn't a horrible person, but this is a "blended" class so you basically have to teach yourself and class time is used for quizzes and him talking about nothing. This class is passable if you dedicate your entire life to it, but I was in 18 hrs this semester and this class was by far the biggest stress in my life. Take at your own risk.
Swim is funny and nice in office hours but extremely rude if you ask questions in class or over email. Extremely difficult tests. Don't take it at tamu if you don't need to.
The tests for this class have been very challenging, with classes average exam grades all below 70. He has been very rude in class to students asking questions, and very rude and immature over email during the current coronavirus crisis. Hes said that he feels he should revoke a promised curve due to the unpredictable global pandemic. Enough said
Every time I get an email form him it makes me upset. This guy, to put it nicely, is not very nice.
very difficult class. Requires lots of time to watch lectures and quizzes are 30 questions true/false and you only have 8 minutes. Tests are very difficult as i do not believe there was ever an average higher than a 65 on an exam. Do not recommend.
You definitely need to get the textbook and study guide. Take detailed notes during his lectures, and study those, the study guide, and notes you took from the textbook for the test. There is just so much information that is covered, so you really just will have to buckle down and try to retain as much of it as you can.
Dr. Swim is a genuinely caring professor. His class is difficult, but passable. This is a very book heavy class, so get used to reading and don't get behind. Quizzes are tough if you are a slow reader. Test are very specific and difficult and he makes sure you know the material. Buy the season pass for 4.0 and go immediantly, only reason I did well
This class is not as difficult as most of these reviews. People who are commenting negative things didn't utilize the tools they had. Read the book, read the study guide thoroughly, sign up for 4.0 and go, and go to his class every week and you will do fine. This class takes up a lot of time so base yor schedule around this class.
I see a lot of reviews that make Swim out to be harsh and unfair. I have experienced the opposite. The class overall is challenging and a lot of work, but if you're willing to put the work in he will work with you. Is open outside of class to help but many do not take advantage of it. Put a little extra time in and you will be fine.
Grade is 20% quizzes which he helps you get points for, 30% final, and 50% exams. You'll get your grades for exams, but you don't get the test back and can't see what you got right or wrong. You have to teach yourself and if you don't read, do the study guide, and look at the powerpoints you're gonna suffer
Swim comes off as a difficult professor. This is a very difficult class to get an A in. To do remotely well you'll have to study 6-7 hours a week. His textbook and study guide are filled with errors that make studying confusing. Tests have a lot of random trivia questions he'll say in a lecture but you'll never think it is relevant to the course.
Prof Swim is a nice guy, its just the class that is hard. Pay attention to the lectures, read the book, and do the study guide and it is possible to make an A, but if you slack of it is very likely you will fail.
I knew going into this class that it was going to be difficult and require a lot of reading from the textbook. What helped me study for the exams in this class was to go through ALL the lectures he posts on ecampus and then go over the study guide. Swim truly cares about his students, and overall I'm not sure why he gets a bad rep as a professor.
Amazing professor. Great lectures. Difficult class. Dont fall behind or your grade will fall as well. If you put in the work, gimme C, pretty easy B, attainable A. He curves tests so the class average is always the same in mid-low 70s. Wont curve down, but will make next test more difficult. Class is a true test of knowledge.
Prof Swim was very difficult, but he was very knowledgeable and was accessible outside of class. Utilize the study guides and textbook. I knew this class would be difficult, but it got exponentially harder with covid. One thing that I should've utilized more is the prerecorded lectures he puts on eCampus. Review those for tests!
Makes you work for your grade for sure, but he's fair. Great for office hours if you make the effort to see him outside of class. It's a lot of material, but he's fair and communicates it well.
Swim was extremely disrespectful to me, so I'm confused as to why some say he's so kind and great. Arrived late to his own lectures. Lectures were quite interesting though. You'll read the textbook front to back and breathe his air if you want an A in this class. This class is made difficult by Swim when it could instead be insightful & enjoyable
Swim is without contest the worst prof Ive had at TAMU & I see why his drop rate is so high. Hes rude and derogatory to students asking questions. He lacks empathy and understanding for his students & seems like he hates his job. The tests are doable but are purposefully deceptive even if you study. His lectures and textbook are also messy.
May come off scary, but he does care for his students. He makes you work for your grade, however read the book and pay attention to lectures to see what subjects he likes to focus on.
Swim is a very kind man and will help you if you ask for it. BUT the class is super hard. Be prepared to read the textbook like it's the Bible. I recommend that you do all the practice questions before tests. Swim is a difficult professor, and he expects a lot from you, but he will answer your questions if you come to office hours.
Worst professor I have ever taken. Class is ridiculously hard for no reason. I spend more time studying for this class than my 400 level engineering classes. He belittles everyone in class and nothing is ever his fault. He asked for criticism and then yells at us. Had to drop the class and retake since he is the only prof. Terrible prof and human.
Swim was not the best, he made tests harder on purpose. He asked for our input in the class structure and made changes, only to change it back for the final. I do have to say, I learned a LOT. His teaching strategy and word usage is... interesting but I found it funny sometimes. Be patient, you can do it!
You will learn so much from this class. This class made "going to college" a worthy experience. But if you want to do well, that is a different story. I am a grind, and this class has been the hardest one for me so far. I ended with an A, but with hundreds of hours of hard work. This class is not impossible, and many students still do pull an A.
Difficult class but not impossible to pass if you put in average effort. Most of the people that claim it's impossible don't read or don't watch the online lectures. An A requires lots of work but its attainable if you're willing to put in the work. Look over your notes at least every other day and study for tests days in advance.
This is one of the toughest courses at Texas A&M but personally it was my favorite. There is no way to do well besides just watching the lecture videos and reading the book until you have nearly everything memorized, but if you do that, there is really no reason to worry due to the course set up. The tests make you think hard but they are fair.
First, this class requires time and effort! Ultimately, this was one of the hardest classes I've taken at Texas A&M. Can you pass this class? Yes! Knowing the importance of persistence is key. You shouldn't ignore the resources available. Or slack off and fall behind. Underestimating the time needed for this class will hurt your grade!
Goodness gracious this class was hell. I had to read the textbook, watch all recorded lectures, and attend mandatory Q&A sessions just to squeeze out a B. Which was my first B at TAMU. You can do all he asks and still be far from an A because his test questions are incredibly specific, purposely confusing, or the answers aren't even in the material
Offers no forms of study help. Tells students that quizzes are the best way to study, then does not make any questions available following your submission. One of the worst teachers I have had at TAMU.
U need $100 hw/textbook. Quizzes are 20-40 Qs with only about 20-30 min. Now get this, after you do the quizzes you wont have any idea what you got right or wrong, and if you want to find out what you got wrong hell tell you to read the book. He assumes everyone will cheat, so its difficult to get any feedback. Dont take this class!
Im not even half way through the class yet & I cant drop because its required, BUT if theres another way to take this class, DO IT. Worst class, worst prof ive taken. Quizzes? Hard. Exams are even harder. Prof doesnt work with you because he is tenured & can do what he wants pretty much. The difficulty of the class isnt an issue, the prof is.
When we ask questions in class he will try to make us look stupid in front of everyone. He also does not allow you to review test or quizzes, and his tests do not reflect the teachings. Instead he creates made up scenarios with 5 answer choices like A. B. C. A and B. All answers. Only A and C. Or none. He genuinely doesnt care for his students.
One of the worst professors I've ever had, if you can avoid him at all costs
This guy is so rude, and even if you read the textbook, watch the lectures, do the study guide, and go to office hours, you'll still probably fail the exam. Swim is totally out of touch -- he's knowledgeable but fails to understand that this is his student's first time learning the material and they don't have his years of experience. Don't take!
Get ready to teach yourself because Professor Swim's teaching style is confusing and unclear. The readings are unbearably long, and with a test consisting of 20 questions, you are thrown for a loop regarding what material is actually important. His lecture videos have multiple holes in them, making it very hard to pass this class without a tutor.
he tries to be understanding with students (sometimes) and make changes to the course to accommodate them but it doesnt help. 75% of the class failed the first exam so he curves depending on how everyone does. i would suggest taking this class at community college and transferring the credit over because i think it's incredibly hard to receive an A
Swim really knows what he is talking about but his test are really hard. It took my almost 5 hours to read one chapter and I went crazy. It is those types of tests where the tests is trying to trick you. Which obviously is extremely difficult. He does curve the tests though. I just can't wait to be done with class.
One of the worst professors I've taken at A&M. He doesn't seem to care about his students and unless you memorize everything word for word there's no way to know if you're right. We had to beg him for resources to pass the class. Swim has no sympathy. Turned half of the class into political talks.
Coming from someone who got an A in the class, the people claiming Swim is a "caring prof" and the class "isn't that bad if you try" are lying. This class ruined my life for an entire semester. Swim is the opposite of caring, and anytime I tried to ask him questions or go to office hours he was anything but helpful. Ridiculously hard for no reason.
Swim's "lectures" are actually just him asking if the class has questions on the RIDICULOUS amount of reading there is. Ask a question, get treated like an idiot! The biggest issue with this class is that there is so so much reading and it's an unrealistic amount. Tests are 20 questions, so you have no idea what is truly important on test. DONTTAKE
Craziest prof I have ever had, he is very rude and the quizzes in the class are only true or false. Tests are hard and no matter how much preparation for the exam you probs still won't pass. Gave out a lot of curves this semester and opportunities only because of snow week. Never again.
He can be incredibly rude during office hours. He's an alright teacher and can be funny but his tests are poorly written and he's not helpful one-on-one. Take notes on the book, take notes during class, combine all those notes with outlines and study hard for the tests. If you put in a ridiculous amount of time it's possible to do well.
1 of the 20 questions on exam 3 referred to something in a 50 page chapter that was at the end of a paragraph in parenthesis. I'm not exaggerating when I say you have to memorize the textbooks and lectures to even pass a test. With curves I got a B, without curves the class average would be in the 45-55 range in a class of 800+ students. 25 hrs/wk.
Quizzes are all T/F. He had all recorded lectures posted. Online textbook is hefty. Exams were not great, they often had spelling mistakes and the worst part is the answer format (almost every question has a 5th option that's like "A and B" so it gets confusing). Definitely gotta put work in for this course. Swim is tough, but he's not terrible.
100% watch his lecture videos. Do all study guide questions. Do every quiz, even if you have all the points. Ask him questions, go to his office hours. He is tough, but he's teaching you how the real world works. That is pretty much no one will hold your hand. This class is not a walk in the park. But it is useful information.
Swim isnt as bad as others make him out to be. Tough love is his teaching style which is honestly better than hand holding in the long run. Read the textbook AND watch the lectures to do well. Also, make sure to study consistently (at least every other day) to really absorb the material. Overall worthwhile class. I really enjoyed it!
Try not to take Swim if at all possible. This was the hardest I've ever worked, and will ever work, for a class. You have to read the entire textbook, watch all the lectures, and know everything perfectly to just have a fighting chance to pass the exams. You can get a good grade in the course if you study study STUDY. Office hours help before exams
Read the textbook!!! I listened to all the lectures and read every word in the textbook and memorized everything and did well on the exams because of it. It is very detail oriented and specific so pay attention to everything. it all matters! I never went to classes or office hours and just read everything.
This class makes you READ. Probably the hardest one I've taken at A&M so far but that's because its a weed out class. Some of the textbook chapters are never ending. The exams aren't too difficult if you fully understand the material. (don't memorize, UNDERSTAND) Swim can be a bit condescending but he means well that's just how he talks.
I recommend taking this class during the summer if possible. There's a lot of information that you have to learn in a short period of time, so it makes it harder for you to forget the information come test day. There's a lot of reading, so don't get behind on the chapters! Swim knows what he is talking about and goes very in-depth with lectures!
idk why he gets a bad rep bc I personally loved him! He really knows what he is talking about and explains things well. Took it in the summer and it was INTENSE but also do able! Definitely study hard, and ask questions when you need help. He is always happy to reexplain things to you in-office hours. Just be ready to put time in and work hard!
Swim likes to give actual lectures, so you just need to listen and take good notes. The majority of your grade is based on how you do on the exams; they are closed note. However, he did give small curves to help the average a bit. Being a summer class, there was a lot to cram. Although, it's completely doable if you put in the work and study.
By far my favorite professor I have ever taken a class from and I am a senior! This is also the HARDEST class I've taken but I genuinely learned so much. Swim uses a lot of examples for hard concepts and makes it easy to understand in lecture but you will also need to read the book. If you get behind on reading the book, go ahead and Q-drop.
Professor Swim was not at all lenient while I took MGMT 209 when it was only available asynchronously. I have had multiple problems in his class and was never given the benefit of the doubt. One time my online quiz froze up and I couldn't take it and even got an IT ticket to prove it but he still didn't give me credit for the quiz. Class is harddd.
Not very helpful when asking questions, even during office hours. Not very willing to work with students. Waste of time and money.
The rumors are true. Most of us come in with no law experience so there's a BIG learning curve. Do the extra credit. An honest man of his word and very by-the-book. Memorize the textbook & take detailed lecture notes. He lays out the law in layman's terms and makes it easy to understand. Smart guy. The hardest class I've taken thus far.
Worst professor I've had at A&M so far. Does not try and help you in the slightest even in office hours he just makes you sound dumb for asking a question. He gave a lot of extra credit this semester, so I ended up making a good grade, but I still had to do a lot of work. Study for the quizzes each week like you are studying for a test.
Easily the worst professor I've had so far. He is insanely rude in his office hours and makes you feel like an idiot for not understanding the material. This class has an insane amount of reading and the averages all all tests/quizzes are 50s/60s. The hardest I've ever worked in a class just to manage a B. Take this class elsewhere if possible.
Swim is rude, egotistical, and a terrible professor. The content of the class is interesting, but swim suuuucks. Read the book, watch the lecture (though I didn't), and go to Mark Mannes for tutoring. If Swim offeres extra credit do it cause youll need it. There is a 100% chance you are going to fail his first test. Typos on the tests as well.
Just read the book and watch the lecture videos and you should be fine. The difficulty from this class stems from the hypothetical exam questions. You really need to understand the concepts to apply them to the scenarios. Not an easy A, but definitely passable if you just put in the effort. He gave a lot of extra credit/ exam curves this semester.
I'm here to debunk a lot of these reviews. Dr. Swim is a great professor who wants to see his students succeed. This class is hard, yes, but if you actually put in effort then you can get a A. Go to office hours! He's very helpful and wants us to come! He gives extra credit. This was my favorite class, and Dr. Swim doesn't deserve the bad ratings.
Swim was nice in person in my experience. He provided extra credit to students. The class relies on the textbook, which I didn't figure out until the third test. I could have gotten a letter grade higher if I read the book earlier in the semester, given the extra credit. The tests are HARD, but if you study they are not impossible by any means.
Professor Swim is not a bad human but a terrible professor. He expects you to memorize so much content for each exam... IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO MEMORIZE all the content he teaches.
Hard class great professor. The subject is hard but he really knows his stuff and loves his job. If I could, I'd take him for every class. Don't let the bad reviews influence you he is great, but you need to work in this class.
This class has so much material you have to be very good at memorizing material to do well. The textbook chapters are extremely long and he goes into unnecessary random details that won't be useful outside of this class. Be prepared to do a lot of memorizing and reading if you want to be successful.
content of this class is not difficult, but there's a lot of it. absolutely have to read the chapters, listen to his lectures, take notes thoroughly. takes a lot of time but only way to pass.weekly discussion posts are 4-5 short essay questions (don't wait for the last minute)I went to office hours once and he was extremely rude to me
Swim gets a lot of hate, but he's seriously one of the best professors I've had. Anyone rating him poorly is likely upset that you actually have to do work, but he gives you resources to help and genuinely cares. Yes, it's a lot of work. But it isn't hard. If you watch lectures, read the book, and take notes, it's an easy A.
Do NOT take Swim unless you absolutely have to. All the grades are exams, including a cumulative final over 15 textbook chapters that is 30% of the final grade. He definitely knows the material but he makes the exams overly hard. He is a former attorney so he thinks you need to know every little detail about law. Absolutely horrible teacher.
Professor Swim was a nightmare. I know the class is over law but it merely felt like an awful history class. He is contradicting because he openly invites his students to ask questions but when you do he makes you feel like you should have kept your mouth shut. Overall, I would never take this class or have Swim as a professor again.
This class is hard, don't get me wrong, but the low ratings on here aren't reflective of the quality. I learned a ton from this course because this one, unlike most others, requires you to go beyond just memorizing things and apply the knowledge that you memorized. He also gives tons of funny examples in lectures that you help you learn.
Apparently Swim has mellowed. Our avg before the final was 77. He offered EC worth 10% if 75% of the class filled out a survey - 27% did. If class avg was below 2.9 he curved. Students asked questions; no one was criticized. Available during office hours. TAs not helpful. Read syllabus. The class is hard but it's reading not engineering calculus.
Prof. Swim was one of the best professors I have had during my studies. His course is tough and covers many facets of business law, but he will try his hardest to help you understand the material. He was always available in his office hours and would work with you to cover material that you did not understand. Don't let the bad ratings dissuade you
Much better than ratings. He curved every test and was helpful in class and during office hours. He was never mean to students. There's A LOT to learn but he offered EC if 75% participated in a survey, but only a few did so we all lost out. Final comprehensive but same questions as other tests so studying is the only answer to a good grade.
