Prof. Volanto talent and passion for history is wasted teaching a History survey course. He is a great lecture who makes his lectures entertaining and informative. As a history major I learned quite a bit in his class. Be prepared to do so outside reading because 25% of his tests and 50% of his quizes are over material in the text book.

Professor Volanto was very organized during his wintermester term. There were 9 quizzes, lowest two dropped and two tests. The textbook is the main part of the course so be ready to read. Other than that, he was a fair grader and his course calendar made the material easy to follow. Good professor for a history credit.

Online class with test/ quiz content being based on lecture slides and textbook chapters. You need to read the textbook and the slides! Laid back teaching style w/ some funny lecture moments. Overall the course was engaging and easy. Would recommend the online class because there was not a lot of assignments and the work was easily spaced out.

Good lectures and a decent amount of reading, but if you put the time in like he says you will get a good grade on the tests. If you don't you won't. The homework assignments are interesting and he gives multiple attempts on the quizzes if you don't do well the first time. Gives good feedback if something is missing or wrong on the test to improve.

I took a 5-week online summer class. A lot of work in a shortened period of time as most summer classes are but I did fine because I had time to dedicate to the class to do the readings and view the lectures which are pre-recorded. The course is very well-organized and most passed the class with a good grade.

Don't believe the high ratings! WORST professors I have taken. His grading is so unfair almost sets you up for failing! He gives you 3 attempts to take a quiz BUT with every attempt he takes points off! He expect alot for a History class! His lectures are LONG & BORING! Exams are HORRIBLE! Overall class grade was 76%! Says alot about him! AVOID!

Wow, that recent review was so off-base. Dr. V did a great job. It's a lot of history in a short period of time, but it's a 5-week summer course. He does not give lower grades for making multiple attempts on quizzes-he averages the scores in order to help you raise your score on another try. View the lectures and read the book and you'll do fine.

Good feedback on assignments if anything major is missing or incorrect. You need to do the HW assignments based on a lot of short readings, but they are not hard and are an interesting supplement to the lectures and textbook reading.

WOW the review is "not off base" the professor took off point on every attempt when taking the quiz more than one time. If you scored a 15/15 on the second attempt your final grade was a 11/15! how is that even fair? that is what taking points off meant! worst professor I have taken at collin college! AVOID if you can! anyone saying different is BS

The toughest grader Ive ever came across in college. Makes you buy a textbook HE wrote. Made an announcement that hes taking notes for whos not downloading his weekly lectures and takes points of exams for that. After the week is done he will remove the lecture material for that week. Dont take him, even if he is the last professor available.

This is one of the worst Professors I have ever had. First off he is lazy he only gives you 4 Homework assignments 4 quizzes and 4 tests because he doesn't want to have to grade as much. On the. Homework assignment if it is not set up perfectly he will take off -25 points of a possible 20 points leaving your grade in the negatives.

Funny reading the review saying Volanto takes off 25 points for not doing the HWs perfectly. Not true. He takes 25 points off if you turn in crap done at the last minute (or don't do them at all) because they are mandatory assignments. He grades them generously if you follow directions and let's you redo them the first time if not done correctly.

Was nice but the course felt dated. He requires 2 textbooks + lengthy HW. He attached audio to PowerPoint slides, making lectures tedious to get through. He removed lectures from Canvas on test day, which impacted me if I ever needed to study the day of. There is not a lot of feedback on tests, so it is hard to tell why he docked points.

Professor gives good feedback on the exams in order to improve. The feedback is usually on the exam itself in the Comments boxes next to the questions. Lectures need to be viewed before the tests as he will take them down before the test so the lazies don't use them as a crutch. Homeworks were graded generously and were very interesting

No complaints. If you put the time in you'll get a good grade. If you rely on outside sources or AI you will get popped from what I heard. He's very good at catching AI users in the online class with some new detection technology the school recently purchased, which is good for us honest students who do put the time in.

This guy makes history extremely difficult because he's an extreme perfectionist. He genuinely does not want his students to pass, he's super petty and passive aggressive. The homework he assigns is so tedious that you won't actually learn anything important because he's too focused on teaching you unimportant details. Don't take him.

I like to look at the previous reviews before making my own and the last one was hilarious. He is hardly an "extreme perfectionist." As he says, he's teaching us to pay attention to detail, but is not anal about it. He gives feedback to improve student performance. I thought the HWs were fun, not tedious at all, and we had a month to complete them

Keith Valento is an awful teacher. He gives no extra credit, only short deadlines, and expects students to work strictly on his schedule. If you're late even a day, he won't help or give time. He's a tough grader, unfair, and shows no care for students. Avoid this class if you want a fair chance to succeed.

Dr. V is a great teacher. He doesn't give extra credit but is very fair in borderline grade situations. He's a fair grader and really cares about his students' success if they put in honest effort. Do not take the class if you want to simply AI your way through. He has ways to prevent such attempts and it won't work....
