he didint teach anything and the midterms werent that easy but he marks SO EASY so just take this teacher trust me you'll get a good mark with minimal effort
Yea he's ok. marks generously. 2 midterms and 2 group assignments make for 40% and 10% with final 50%. Do his assigned questions and you should do fine.
I took summer sem with him and he is pretty good. Answers all our questions & has great sense of humor too! He is a very kind and humble lecturer. Explains very clear and makes it simple for us. Wish we had more lecturers like him, wish I could take 514 and 504 with him. Wish we had more lecturers like him.
Rushes to class 15 minutes behind schedule while chewing a hot dog, then stares at his laptop for another 20min, then skips through slides for two hours and goes home. The midterms were easy ( he wrote them), the final was BRUTAL( he did not write it).Overall very down to earth, approacable, ocasionally funny, very disorganized not the best teacher
The bad: He is lazy and disorganized. He forgot to show up to a review meeting( came the next day), he rarely answers e-mails, made a 10 marks error on my midterm, showed up late every class The good: He is funny, marks generously, very nice guy overall, will answer questions and knows his stuff, tips on what he will ask on tests and hes ok overall
Took this course in the spring semester that only lasts for around 2 months. Keith explains the material very clearly but it is best if you come to class prepared. This will help you grasp the concepts much better and save you time. The midterms were hard but doable. The final was a killer but I guess he is a good marker and wants you to pass.
Really great teacher, I could sit through a three hour lecture no problem. He focuses more on content rather than doing problems. His midterms were not that bad, but the final was tough. Really good teacher, take him if you want to learn.
Very good professor. Will help you during his office hours and explain things if you don't understand it. In class though, lots of time where students can spend it talking as we are working on the exercises. These exercises are taken up in class shortly after.
he can be picky when it comes to mark. He is some what chill considering he wears the same shirt everyday. Other than that dry sence of humor can get annoying but via problem example you will learn stuff, if you never took acc before.
Professor Whelan is a great man! he explains the concepts well and his midterm exams were fair despite being challenging. Just practice the questions and it will become second nature. Overall good prof! Thank you sir! (:
great use of examples, knows what hes doing. however, his exams are hard, does not prepare you well for exams. he's got a bit of an attitude too so watch out for that but generally a nice guy
HE IS A GOOD PROF. HOWEVER THE COURSE IS HARD, SO ARE THE EXAMS. YOU REALLY NEED TO VERYYY HARD TO ATTAIN THE GRADE YOU WANT. THE PROF DOESNT REPLY EMIAIL ON TIME AND SOMETIMES DOESNT. I REALLY WISH HE BELL CURVES THE MIDTERM MARK...AS IT WAS 60 :/
Very hard midterm and final. Calm and easy going. But if you want a high mark you have to work for it. Not getting it for free
He's alright, knowledgeable and approachable, can make class interesting. His midterms are a bit different and harder compared to other 514 profs (more on theory). Doable, but low class avgs! Won't return them (small testbank), not the best option. Sort of disorganized at times. Course is much worse than 414, so study hard! Scared for the final! :|
the first midterm was fair and was similar to the textbook questions. however the 2nd midterm and especially the final exam were brutal and very different from the textbook. all his tests are from testbanks and are really complicated.
He is a very good at teaching in class ... Never makes the class bored & give real life examples.., however his tests are really HARD...you have to study very hardto attain the mark u want... The FINAL WAS BRUTALLL... & I really he bell curves the final mark ... Since he told some concepts which wouldn't show ... Did actually show up on Final ....
The course itself was really hard but his marking scheme for the midterm was fair. Doesn't really reply to emails. When attending his class make sure you PAY attention! Goes through concepts quickly so it's hard to follow him
Pretty good prof, just goes over the main stuff you need to know and cracks a couple jokes. He is kind of a hard marker but he pretty much tells you what is on the final which helps. This course is actually harder than 410 though.
You need to know your stuff well before you come to class since he goes over the material pretty quickly. He covers the main topics that you need to know before exams, so at least you have an idea whats going to be on it. He doesn't bellcurve, but is a fair marker and wants his students to do well.
He is not an easy prof. On final he told you to study one thing and came the opposite. You have to work really hard to get the mark you want. Half the class did really bad on final since some topics wasnt taught in his class.
I think we should blame his TA most importantly. Makes marking mistakes everytime. Even screwed us on final.
Such an irresponsible prof. Doesn't respond email & even when u come to his office he doesn't open the door sometimes. I don't know why ryerson even keep his kind of prof.
I had him for ACC110, and it waasn't bad, but then I had him for ACC410 and it was awful. The final was extremely absolutely BRUTAL. The marking scheme was if you got the number wrong, but did ALL the work right, you dont get the mark. he's a nice professor. But i think im gonna try to avoid him for the rest of my time at ryerson.
Nice guy. Don't mind his lectures. No breaks and only 2 hours long. Midterms and finals are tricky, know your textbook problems and you'll do fine. AND he bell curves
He isn't that generous in marking process work other than journal entries. Doesn't take up the bigger exam-like problems in class. Tells you to find solutions manual yourselves. As for viewing midterms/final in his office, you may have to come back 2+ times cuz he's unavailable. Understandable, but frustrating for a rough course. Take another prof.
took in summer school, so easy!
Very interesting, uses real life examples in class as hooks to get the student's attention. Funny guy. Doesn't go into depth about how to get calculations and isnt very organized. Runs through things quickly without stopping to clarify how each number was achieved. Not organized at all...
Professor Whelan is one of the best accounting professors at Ryerson. First off he goes through the slides well and explains the concept well! He connects it to real life examples and his midterm is a bit tough. Final was easy took questions from textbook. Also bumps your mark if its say 67% to 70% This is for ppl who need 70% to continue acc major
talks too fast, runs through the powerpoints just to get out of class as soon as possible, does not explain harder questions, 2nd midterm was long and brutal but final was easier because another instructor wrote it. Never in his office when he says he is going to be. Take it at Chang instead.
I had high hopes going into this class after reading all the positive reviews, but I wasn't happy with my experience. Yes, he's funny and entertaining, but... he basically just taught us theory, we did not go over exercises in class. No review sessions pre OR post exams! Schedule was not reliable. Lots of self-studying required for this one...
never on time for class, every class a rush to get out, talked so fast impossible to keep up, ppt are publishers - this guy should start caring about the students in his class instead of his paycheque.
He likes to flip through powerpoints and talk a lot, so a lot of self study in this class is vital to understanding anything. I found him to be a fair marker. I also had him for ACC504, and since he likes theory so much he is great at teaching cases and I highly recommend him for 504.
Take him only for 504: marking scheme for exams and weekly cases (done in groups) is fairer esp compared to Shapiro. Should fully take up midterm in class as his office hrs weren't flexible for most students. Schedule is quite unreliable so you MUST check BB often! He assigned a mini essay approx 2 weeks before finals.:| Should slow down a tad too.
Keith is very helpful and always so prompt with any question. He explains everything with life examples and excellent discussions which makes attending the class so much fun and practical!! Straightforward. Great professor!
Just love his teaching style and lecture although I have to say that it is not going anywhere most of the time. However, you can get a lot out of him when he is not fooling around. I find him very helpful. Make sure you know your case format well if you have him.
Pleasant experience with him. Definitely not a bird course although it is not that difficult either with enough practice. Make sure you practice and practice and practice. Well, isn't it the same for all accounting courses. Don't expect him to spend a great deal of time going over every single detail.
Professor Whelan is a very knowledgeable prof. Basically get the format down for the cases right practice them and you will get a good mark in his class. The midterm is easy the final is slightly harder in the sense of content you read and prepare for cases.
Professor Whelan is a very knowledgeable professor. This is a tough course but with hard work you can do well. The first midterm is a bit tough so practice a lot of problems. The second midterm and final exam are from the test bank so practice those type of questions. My final advice DON'T TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED.Study ALL chapters evenly!
I wouldn't recommend him . good with concept but his exams are noT close to what he teaches in class . Extremely hard . Class average for midterm was 60.So unorganized not even funny . I would never take him again .
The course is brutal. He is an alright prof. The tests are hard, the final is harder. He tells u something wont be on the exam, yet it shows up. I lost nearly 20% on the exam cuz I didn't study for something he said wouldn't come ( keep that in mind). It happened more than twice.
I have had Keith for every single one of my accounting courses since first year and have always done well. He is a great professor. He is very compassionate and helpful. He is extremely reasonable and fair when it comes to marking. Whoever said he lies about what is going to be on tests is wrong. It is the opposite in my experience.
(-): class is useless. If you are able to read the book and know CORRECTLY how to do 75% of the problems, you will be fine. Besides, you find yourself hopeless in order to get a descent mark. (+):He is an easy marker on midterms and quizzes. Don't email him bcuz he doesn't response quick. Instead, call him. Office hour is useless. Got a B
Extremely unorganized. Lectures are 90% useless. he wont teach anything that will be on the exam. he will give examples, lots of them. He tells you what will be on the midterm the lecture before it but thats not 100% accurate. EXTREMELY UNORGANIZED! avoid.
Great prof, knows his slides, explains clearly, answers questions, finishes early, and is available for assistance. He however does not respond quickly to emails but he reviews before an exam. I only failed as I couldn't write the final exam, otherwise I would have done well. Do the questions he asks and you will ace the exams.
Easy marks with iclicker questions. Good prof always asks to make sure everyone understands. Finishes early and responds to emails pretty fast. Does and takes up practice questions from the textbook. Midterm was fair and aplia assignment was fairly easy marks.
Very helpful, gives good examples for everything, makes sure everyone understands the concepts, responds to emails very quickly, overall a great accounting prof!
Very knowledgeable and helpful professor. Great lecturer and would take another class with him in the future.
Best ACC professor one could have! TAKE HIS COURSE!!!!! LOVE HIM!!!
Explains the key concepts with incredible detail and frequently asks students if they understand/need more clarity, while reminding when stuff is important. If you keep up with the homework, you're golden. Midterm and final were very long but fair.
One of the best accounting profs at Ryerson! He uses very clear examples to explain concepts and always makes sure students understand the material. Helps you with problems in class and he's funny. He also finishes class early. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
He is the one of the best accounting profs ive had. He explains the concepts well, gives great examples and if you ask him a question he gives you a clear answer. I would take him again in a heartbeat. he is also a fair grader and gives students part marks when desereved
I found that taking this course with Whelan allowed me to stay awake the whole class because this guy really knows how to talk. He tends not to go in to too much detail about things (probably the reason I don't fall asleep) but he is always ready to answer any questions you have.
Not a very good teacher. Doesn't take up course outline questions. Asks students to find solutions for themselves from the test bank and solution manual, which are illegal at Ryerson. Doesn't he get paid enough to teach? I don't mind working hard and doing examples myself but I need to see solutions to see if I'm on the "right track". Ridiculous.
Downside: Low effort, avoids anything that is more work for him, even if it would benefit students. Often rudenastydisagreeable. Upsides: Fair, gives lots of part-marks. Very clear, laid-back class style. I "crashed" many ACC100 sections: other profs put in more effort for students, but Whelan looks to give us marks where he can.
He is really nice, but a poor teacher. When going through in-class quizzes or example answers he often would get too lazy to even finish the question and continue on without giving the answer. People had to clarify what the correct answer was! GET ELSE FOR ACC. Had to attend lectures that were pointless because of iclicker.
He's a great prof. He's always willing to help and it very clear in his lessons. He always tells us what will definitely be on the exam so that's a plus. If you have questions, he tries his best to make sure you understand. I definitely recommend him
Good sense of humor and a really nice guy. His midterm was hard, but if you stick with him then he'll reward you with the easiest accounting exam in history. The homework he assigns is really close to the stuff that's going to be tested. He uses personal experiences that are really relevant to the material that's being taught. Recommend him highly.
took this course with this prof last year. I definitely wont recommend you taking his classes. He is so confused about the tests and everything in general. The topics which he tells wont be there in the tests are being tested and the whole class is in a dilemma. Definitely a No No.
He's a good prof when in comes to lectures as in he explains the concepts clearly and in a very understandable manner. So his test imo were first mid term is hard, the second mid term is harder, and the final exam is hardiest out of them all. It's essential to come to class and do all the home work if you want a decent mark in the course.
Mr. Whelan is a nice man and a very helpful teacher. He explains everything well, important for this challenging Accounting course. He is also quite clear on what is on the examinations and I have found them to be challenging but fair. Since changing the textbook, the solutions to questions are now given, thereby improving this course.
Took Intermediate Accounting-2 with this prof. He is a bit confused of what will be there in the exam. The topics he mentioned not to focus on; as they are not in the course outline/syllabus, were there in the exam. He is approachable but a very hard marker at the same time.
Buy the test bank and you are covered
Everything posted online by course coordinator(accounting head)no matter wht 1st yr accounting class your in. Same stuff posted for ALL classes. Print everything out or work on it on labtop. Textbook chapter, videos, extra practice q#s posted each week. 1 chapter per week. Online accounting homework called aplia(graded) for each week. Proftakesupwrk
Fun lecture, even tho I had it at 8 am. He tries to explain accounting so you can relate to it therefore understand it better. Overall I really enjoyed his class, and would take it again. Only thing I believe he should work on is doing more examples on the board. For accounting it is crucial you do lots of examples in class and at home.
Great prof. Explains material very well and clear. Really nice and helpful. Course itself requires a lot of hard work and time
He's a good guy and a good prof for the most part however if you do all of your readings and homework that's the only time he is helpful. he is very confusing, gets numbers randomly and doesn't explain it well. He tries his best to help but is very bad at it. the course itself requires a lot of work so try your best and be prepared ahead of class
Keith was an amazing prof. He was always very specific and clear in his lectures. Try to understand the material before going to class and use the class as a way of clarifying anything you didn't understand on your own. Practice, practice, practice and you will do well on his tests!
Keith uses a lot of real-life examples from his career to help you understand the concepts, and this is a pretty heavy course so it definitely helps. He does sometimes rush or brush over things that could use more attention, but he'll always go back and explain for you if you ask. Course load is not determined by him, so disregard that rating here.
Each week, 1 textbook chapter, videos and practice q# posted online by course coordinator (accounting head) no matter what 1st yr accounting class you're in. Same stuff posted for ALL classes. Work on it on labtop or print everything out. This is not graded but for you to learn. Prof will take it up in class. Must do online graded homework applia
All accounting course materials posted by Else Grech (textbook chapter, videos, practice questions) each week. You have to go to Ryerson bookstore and ask to buy applia $70. Applia is online homework that's graded. The ONLY thing prof does is take up work in class. You have iclicker quizzes at start of EVERY class. Buy iclicker off someone.
To do well, don't get behind! Read textbook chapter posted, watch videos and do ALL non graded homework and online graded homework called applia (costs $70). You must go to class. At start of EVERY class there's iclicker quizzes (easy marks). Buy iclicker off someone (i got mine for $20). Ryerson store sells for $60. You will get an A. Prof great
Go to the classes before the midterm and final exam - he gives hints.
Good prof. course itself was easy if u do all the HW and practise. Midterm and exam were fair. Easy to get an A+ if u put in good effort. gives u a lot of part marks, and is available for help. overall nice guy, and is willing to help u. Also responds to emails quickly. have to attend classes for i clicker and practise questions taken up in class
He makes lectures fun because he's very humorous and has lots of hilarious stories related to the concepts we're learning. Very cool guy, and he really knows his stuff. Iclicker quizzes were a super easy grade booster as well.
Great guy loved the class. Loud, clear, helpful, and exams are fair.
Professor Whelan made this course as easy as possible! I had been told the the course is very tough- it is but stay on top of readings and you are guaranteed a good mark! Professor Whelan gives marks wherever possible!
Best ACC414 prof ever! He's a very nice guy and a fair marker. The class is tough, but if you practice the assigned questions on a weekly basis you are guaranteed to do well. Took Julie before and hated her! This prof is a gem!
He's an amazing professor, you wont get bored and you'll understand everything he explains. But you definetley have to do the work.
Honestly, he seems like he will yell at you but he's genuinely a really nice guy. Any time I went to him for questions, he was always helpful. Teaches the materials quite well and clear
Has GREAT stories which really helps you connect and understand concepts. Really cares for his students and emphasizes important things to know. Midterm & final as expected. The course is heavy in general but Whelan makes it bearable. Don't remember a time he didn't dismiss class half an hour early. Tries to learn everyones names which I liked.
This prof is great! He will go into depth about the topics and help as much as possible. He really knows his stuff and can also be funny from time to time. Can't go wrong with this guy. However the course itself requires a lot of reading and understanding before class, so make sure you know what you need to beforehand.
Very good about explaining new concepts, an overall great prof.
Does not care about helping students succeed. Not responsive to emails at all and when a response is finally received - student get one short run-on sentence without adequately addressing every concern. Any problems with the course - he won't help you and pass you on to someone else. By SAF teaching standards - Keith sure fell short.
he doesn't answer questions in class!! is always a hurry to end class early without finishing the in-class problem, even if there's easily half an hour left. we paid for your class with our tuition and we expect our money's worth.
Whelan was a great prof for explaining new concepts. He always stops the lecture to ask if everyone understands. He also encourages group work, which gives you time to work through problems in class so there is minimal homework. The only thing doesn't give a break so he lets you leave class early instead. Overall great prof
In general, Keith is good at explaining concepts and uses real-life stories/scenarios to further our understanding. However, he does not put much effort into explaining textbook problems, and seems to rush through lectures to end 20-40 minutes before schedule. He also answers questions in a rude/childish manner, making it hard to get clarification.
Good professor but he explains things way too quickly. Accounting is not my strong suit but he has definitely helped me understand it a bit better. Be prepared to do a bit of in-class work.
Condescending and dismissive when ask for academic support. Keith hasn't answered any of my questions or concerns. Seems to be ready to run the other way when I come to him with a problem, give a quick response, and brushed me off. The textbook proved to be more knowledgeable than Keith. In class he doesn't tell us what's not already in the text.
Took this professor thinking he was the easiest and would actually help with this hard course. Turns out he doesnt explaim anything and his class averages are lower than other profs. Avoid avoid avoid!!
I had him for ACC100, and I thought he was quite nice. However, he became really difficult by ACC406. Not that accessible outside class and barely helps. Explanations are not clear sometimes. Wouldn't recommend
He is completely useless when it comes to practice questions. He makes you do them yourself which is not a problem in itself, but when he "takes it up", he just flashes up the solution manual quickly so no one gets a chance to understand how to do questions. Avoid if you're looking to pass the final exam.
He rushes through the lectures as he doesnt take the full 3 hours to teach, doesn't explain the answers in depth.
Keith can be enthusiastic during lectures but thats basically it. He did not make an effort to actually take up problems and he rushed lectures. Whenever I asked him a question he responded in a rude tone. He did the bare minimum in my class.
He does not help that much and doesn't answer questions properly
Keith was a fair marker and you learn a lot from his lectures
Did bad on clicker. He always miss mark and do not know the reason but the teaching skill is fine.
From what Ive heard, Keith was a better prof for ACC100. For 406, he was terrible. Accounting requires application of formulas, and he just told stories instead of showing problems. He shows no interest when you ask him questions and refuses to give info about the tests (ex. how many questions there are). He is also unorganized and unprepared.
He was okay for ACC100, he loved to give lots of examples during class and sometimes drift away to telling stories about different scenarios for Acc100 but kept his pace using a timer on his screen so we wouldn't get too carried away. Let's the class finish earlier and gives breaks, let us leave whenever you wanted but didn't like you taking photos
Good Prof but requires a lot of reading beforehand
He is a great person. He helps by providing real life examples to we can relate to. He teaches fairly well but loves to end early. IClicker quizes were easy especially if you have knowledgeable people in your group. Do your reading prior to class and you should easily do well.
Extremely hard, dropped it because the first 2 tests were so hard. probably the hardest course I've taken.
Great prof! Although he seemed to rush through class, he gave many opportunities to practice and ask questions. He is very knowledgeable on accounting and teaches through the use of examples and personal experiences. Tests were hard but marked fairly easily. He gave many part marks as he doesnt want you to fail the class.
There's a quiz every class, so you have to show up. Not much teaching done during lectures as you're expected to do the readings beforehand. You'll be fine if you do so.
Was a cool guy, but you have to make sure that you read the chapter before attending class because he just goes through questions, and not any material!
He doesnt teach at all. Going to class is only important because you have iclicker quizzes that count for your grade, other than that it is a complete waste of your time. He doesnt explain and barely covers the chapters. No one asks questions because he answers them in a way that makes you feel dumb. Not a good prof.
He's ok. Tests were fine. I took Accounting before so I had no issues. Ensure to do the home-work before hand as you'll fall behind if you don't.
Great professor, good teacher and easy marker. As long as you go to class, you have no excuse to not do well.
Keith was the most inspiring, caring and honest prof I have ever had the honor to be taught by. Every time I step into his clean, cozy class I immediately feel the fantastic vibes he gives off. I strongly urge everyone to get a chance to meet him. Cheers!
He provides examples that relate to the course concepts, although it feels over simplified. His tests are quite hard, so you should definitely study for a chance to get a good mark. He is definitely a nice guy, but if you're weak then hes not a good choice for you.
Out of the options for Accounting professors, Keith is probably the best. His teaching method may not be for everyone but he knows what he is talking about and if you pay attention and do the readings and practice before class it's quite easy to follow along! You WILL struggle if you fail to do the readings before class though.
Very disorganized prof. He was okay up until the final exam -- he gave us the answer sheet for the multiple choice by accident, so our exam was marked based on just the short answers -- so 60% of our mark was based on an exam out of only 65 marks because of HIS mistake.
This professor told me that I would end up in a small boutique firm and I wouldn't go far after my first mid-term that I didn't do as well as i wanted (70%). I ended up with a good mark - but he's the perfect storm of doesn't know what he is talking about. 4 years later - i'm in the big 4 doing incredibly well. Thanks Keith for the motivation.
nice dude, acc is tough so just stay on top and you will do fine. Keith will help you get through it.
Great teacher, really wants his students to do well. You do have to read the textbook though because during the lectures, he does questions to better understand the concepts, so read the textbook before going to class. He does a great job explaining how to do the questions, and knows what he's talking about.
ACC100 can be a confusing course if it is your first time dealing with accounting. Attending Keith's lectures are helpful because they provide you with run through of questions which on top of the textbook work provide you with the information to do well in this course. Keith seems to be a caring professor who is kind and always willing to help
His hand writing is absolutely horrendous but just ask him if you cannot read something he has written, he will gladly help. His lectures are very fast-paced so make sure you complete the chapters assigned before class or you will be lost!
Great prof and great teaching. He is really kind and will acc help you but you need to ASK! Accessible outside of class had office hours on Saturday Evenings and held webinar sessions for exam/midterm review. Great choice I will def take again!!
He was really helpful during the pandemic online classes. Make sure you read the chapter before you come and dont miss any classes. Dont be shy to ask questions! Hes very nice about it and explains very clearly.
I had him and was really scared before the semester started because his ratings were questionable. But honestly he wasn't a bad prof at all, very accommodating because of the pandemic and encouraged everyone to ask questions and took time to answer all of them. But one thing is; he doesn't post his lectures, so for answers you need to go to class
Great professor, quick to respond to student concerns, goes over many practice questions in class.
There's a quiz every class which counts for 2% of the final grade so make sure to show up for weekly lectures.
He is completely useless. When it comes to teaching, he goes over the materials really fast, and when it comes to solving problems, he scribbles all over the place. When you ask him a question, he explains it the same way you didn't understand. He also doesn't prepare you for exams and tests. Avoid him at all cost. He only cares about the money.
although I got a bad mark, he is not too bad prof. id say your grade is reflected on how much work you put into it. he's not very understanding of e learning circumstances. he has super quizzes and if you missed the announcement/integrity quiz for it (juggling 5 courses online is hard) you miss 10% of your mark. final and midterm were fair tho.
Keith is better for ACC100 than 406. For 406 it was pretty hard as he went faster and, talked more than did problems. He does help but, ACC406 is about practice but he read off the slides and, explained problems but students had to do problems first then he would go over it, instead of him doing it and, showing us step by step.
Good professor, attend and listen to the lectures in addition to reading the provided PDF textbook and you will do fine.
ACC406 was way harder than ACC100 in my opinion. Because he doesn't record the lectures, it was hard to keep up with the class during lecture time. Be sure to understand the slides before attending the lecture or you'll be very confused. He's understanding and makes sure to ask students if they need help with anything. Just come to class prepared.
PAY PAY PAY ATTENTION!!! Keith is a great prof, I had him this winter semester and I learned a lot BECAUSE I PAID ATTENTION. He lets his students ask as many questions as they want even during lectures because he wants to make sure everyone understands the material. Look at his slides before class (there aren't that many) and you will do well.
He is awesome at teaching. However, he doesn't have the recording. If you miss his class, you won't have answers of the class demo questions. If you don't preview, it will be difficult to understand the examples he talks about in class. This way of teaching may be difficult for some students.
Overall this professor is not good and is very disorganized. His lectures can often go into his life story which might confusing.
Lectures may become confusing as it can go off into his life story. In addition to this he is disorganized and does not clearly tell which areas to focus on
His lectures focuses more on his life story instead of the actual course material itself which can be confusing. In addition to this he is very disorganized and does not often covey information regarding the course properly
His lectures can be misleading as it can shift to his life story and may not cover all the content. In addition to this he is very disorganized and his announcements can be confusing too
He was an okay prof. His lectures did not help me prepare any better for his exams. The exams are a mixed bag, you really can't predict what might possibly be tested, and it's not the profs fault for this but it's because of the content of the course itself. And I can't even tell you about the course content cuz I have no clue what I learned either
Personally I found ACC406 slightly easier than ACC100. Whether that was because of the prof or not, idk. He did a fair amount of practice problems which were helpful. Only problem was there were no cheat sheets allowed for the midterms and final. It wasn't a huge issue but if they were allowed I definitely would have done better.
Lectures are useless. The midterm average was a low 50 because of how long and difficult he made it. Found it impossible to finish both the midterm and the final no matter how much content was studied. Thankfully this is a math-based course and you have mylab to teach you the steps. You'll be better off teaching yourself.
Keith is very strict. He will not allow you to make up for missed tests.
Great professor. Takes a (non-mandatory) record of students' attendance in class to track how class attendance correlates with their final grades as a side project. I recommend, at a minimum, attending classes where he goes over the practice questions to learn the answering process. He does post solutions after class.
Great prof. He helps his students to understand the material. The tests are fair and reflect the homework content. He reviews all questions afterward and adjusts if all students do not perform well on a particular question or feel they do not have enough time. Homework is easy to get 100% on. Tests were open textbook but not notes.
One of the gems at TMU, Keith wants to see his students suceed unlike some of the other professors in this department. He's easily accessible and posts solutions in case you don't understand weekly problems. 10/10 would recommend.
Keith is a good prof and I would recommend taking this class with him if you can. The material of the course and the course itself is definitely a bit hard but you will pass taking the class with him if you put in the effort. He does go fast in his lectures but he is always available to help clarify any questions.
Take Keith for 615 at all costs! He really does care about his students and wants them to pass. His tests/exams are prepared fairly and graded easily and are similar to textbook questions assigned, the textbook is a must-read for this course. He posts lecture slides, notes and answers to the questions. Definitely better than the other professor.
Honestly I never went to class but the only reason why I did well was because I read the textbook like a maniac. If you do not read the textbook you will not do well. As for Keith his exams were very fair, he's an easy marker and a caring guy. He's very accessible outside of class and will always answer any questions u have. Best prof 4 this class
Never again
The worst professor I've had at TMU. I was told to write my mid-term with no calculator because I brought the wrong one. He said "Can you read? This is not the right calculator", then proceeded to laugh at students in distraught. Had to drop the course after this. Professors are supposed to be caring, Keith is the opposite. Absolutely terrible.
He is very unorganized in terms of teaching the material. He tries to take up the solution for problems but he goes too fast. I would prefer if he used excel instead of writing stuff. The wiley assignments don't feel consistent with the problems that we do in class... there is some stuff that wasn't taught fully in class.
You need to attend class. I had to miss some, and my grade tanked significantly. He is willing to go over examples as many times as needed and is super responsive via email. Practice. Practice. Practice.
TMU NEEDS TO PICK BETTER PROFS!
Not a good prof at all. Avoid him if possible
I don't know where TMU finds their profs, specifically for SAF, cause it's actually ridiculous how many bad profs there are. After 4 years of being a student here I can only count the amount of goods profs I've had on one hand. Sometimes I strongly regret choosing to attend TMU because of this issue.
Prof Keith is actually a great professor who cares about his students. I wish he would do the in-class Excel step by step, and I felt that the exams were not similar to the homework. However, he does a great job explaining concepts and is open to answering all questions.
Professor Whelan cares about his students, and as the other review mentioned, I wish he went over the excel problems more in class. He is very lenient with marking and gives a lot of part marks. He is also not very responsive to emails, but still explains concepts very clearly and cares about his students.
