tough class, however he is WILLING to help you just have to go ask for it. he is a great teacher and will help in any way he can. not an easy class, if you need help he is there, and it needs time. i recommend, but if u dont go to the offered help sessions... GOOD LUCK!
I hate this class. He is hard to understand, and he only teaches from his notes. When you ask him a question he suggest that you ask a classmate (they are confused too). WARNING!!! If you can help it, DON"T SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS!
Very Hard teacher. He only teaches from his notes, and is very hard to understand. He allways wants you to ask others for help, never willing to help himself. Tests were very hard and confusing. You get to use a 5x8 card hand written on all test, but nothing that is on his study guide is on the test. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN HELP IT.
He was horrible, i'm not a chemistry whiz but I get great grades, his test were like reading a foriegn language.
I would put my nursing career back four months rather than take this class. Mr. Williams is very impersonable and hard to approach. "Ask your colleagues" is what he always says. My colleagues are just as confused as I am. He leaves me wondering 'does this guy know what he's talking about?' Seems to be unprepared with his lecture and notes.
i took him back in the winter of 2006 he was hard and dosent explain very well.. his saying is ask your collegue... he used to give out reviews he dosent do that any more thats why the class got harder... i got a B out of the class cause of the reviews. i wouldnt recommend him thou. dont take this class. hes a good guy just cant teach....
I knew the class would be difficult but he never seems to help students with questions or just ignores them.
This teacher is not very good at teaching. He is not willing to help student or anwser there questions. He lets you have a cheat sheet and gives you a review but bad part is that everything on the test is not on the review so it wont be on your cheat sheet either.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! i wasted 4 months and alot of money on this class, horrbile teacher. He mumbles towards the board, cant read the chicken scratch on the board, rude and discouraging. As everyone else said, "Ask Your Collegues" is not acceptable, i am paying for a professor not my classmates opinions. Avoid at all costs.
I have a GPA of 3.5 and had to drop his class because he made the tests extremely hard. He also yelled at a student for leaving his class early because of a death in the family.
Dr. Williams is a good professor. His class is extremely hard and you have to come to class to do good. You also have to study like never before to pass the class. Yeah the test are hard but that's because he expects a lot from his students. He grades fair so if you are taking him just be patient and don't give up.

Dr. Williams:VERY knowledgeable/chemistry, you have to want to learn/MUST put GREAT amount/time STUDY. KNOW his notes, RECORD him. DO ALL OWL. IN Win08 HE WAS AVLBL 4HELP after EVERY lecture. will work with you after class everyday. If you just need chem 131 stay away if you need to take advanced chem or get into a 4 year program he will test your desire to succeed. Grades on a very fair curve.
A very good teacher, dificult but good. He does say to ask your collegues but he was also available everyday before and after class. Be prepared to work and the test are very hard but good preparation for future courses.
This is the hardest Chemistry class I've ever taken. Exams are VERY hard and attendance is manditory and part of your grade. He knows what he is talking about, but really grills students on the exams. He does offer extra credit, but if chemistry isn't your thing take another teacher or you will hate it by the end of this class even more.
Hardest teacher I've ever taken. I usually get As in chemistry but this guy is impossible! The highest score on a test was a 73 from ANY student. No matter how much you study you just can't get an A.
Williams is SO tough! Take anyone except him for 131. He leaves you very frustrated and feeling like you don't know anything no matter how hard you've studied. To whomever called people cry babies and compared this class to the work place, there is no analogy. Bosses rarely know their employees jobs. This is a class of students-not professionals

the only way to pass is to know someone who took his class the prior semester and use their notes, exams, quiz's. He makes Chem harder than it needs to be by not coinciding his lecture notes to quiz's and exams. Very knowledgeable and kind, but your gonna study like you never have before. Do all owl, wipe the board and do all extra credit possible
Very tough class, but if you stick with it til the end you can make it. It is very time consuming and you must do all owl homework and study. I wouldn't recommend this class if you already have more than a couple classes you must devote alot of time. Mr. Williams is a good teacher you just have to adjust study habits to make it in his class!

So much extra credit given. Study as hard as you can for the tests, if you're going into any science major and you complain this is hard, get out, it doesn't get easier. I got a C, 3 Bs, and one A, and had a 94 percent average before the final. A- is 85 percent. Go to class, STUDY THE BOOK. Everything you need to know for chem 131/141.
Well, the Spring course was a short, 7 weeks. There is much to do in terms of a computer part, OWL, 3 exams, 13 labs, 5 quizzes, and a final. Clearly, do not take him if you are not ready to put in some work. He is willing to help even if you are behind. Grades Mastery (A), Solid (B) & Just made it (C). It is more the subject than the teacher.

HE GIVES ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT SO EVEN IF UR BAD ON TESTS THE EXTRA CREDIT GETS YOU UP TO A. HE TALKS ALOT AND WRITES ALOT ON BOARD. BUT IF U JUST SHOW UP AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT THEN U BE OK.
i had him for spring, the class went by pretty fast in 6 weeks. but he gave alot of extra credit and there was ne take home test. there were no quizes. he lets you not come to class 3 times only and then after that it will afect ur grade. easy A. especially if u hate chemistry.
U dont relly need the book, he puts everything u need on the board, and u just study it and u get a. he was real nice, i had a baby, and missed class half the time. but he let me make up everythn so i would be on track. i ended up getting a b and i wasnt there EVER. haha

hes da bomb!he gave us 3 tests in spring, and you can get 50% on each becuz on each test there one easy extra credit question worth 35 points so, 35% so even if i get a 50% on the test i can get 85% just cuz of extra credit. and its an easy question that he done in lass be4.

ihad him for spring it was a fast paced class in just 6 weeks but we covered everything and he was very helpful with anwsering questions. he ususaly never missed class and he hated ppl texting.
i loved this class it was so much fun. doign equation seemed hard at first but it gt so eassy. he taught us some steps and they made everything much easier i lve chemistry! i used to HATE it especialy since i suk at math.

Well, there are 1,000 ways to fail Prof. Williams' class and only a few ways to pass. In college there is difference between teaching and lecturing. He let's you know what it is you need to teach yourself. Students defintely need to take advantage of working in groups. What you do on the quizzes and the exams will determine higner grades.
Definaely worth my money, well the governments money. he's very clear, and pretty straight forward. One word, easy.

He is the worst teacher i have ever had. He has a god complex and refuses to answer questions or help you in anyway, tells you to "ask your fellow student". I'm not paying for my fellow students to teach me! It doesn't matter if you answer the question right he will still mark you off unless it is written or done EXACTLY how he wants it done.
The bull#%&# just does not stop with this man. Does not teach to the topics in the book,makes up his own items to test on and then does not present the material well. Grading is arbitrary and random.(students in class with same answers but different grades on test items) Makes comments to make class feel dumb. WORST teacher I have EVER had.

He purposefully talks down to his students to make them feel dumb about not knowing answers, but REFUSES to teach us how to GET TO THOSE ANSWERS! Cannot stay on track, speaks incoherently, and tests on things you never heard about in lecture or read in the book. Awful.

This guy is unbeleiveable!!!! i dont know whoooo commented saying this professor is alright, but so wrong!!! Tests are extremely wrong, the highest grade in the class was a 67% and people were telling her " good job !".... While many students come into the class thinking only of taking this one course. Dr. Williams teaches as though you are going on to the next chem course. This is beneficial because I needed to be prepared for the next chem course. Listen the first day of class he lays it all out and is consistent. Students get what they earn at the end.
In college, a lecture tells you what you need to teach yourself. Also, this is chemistry not ping pong. Students in the class could not do the math needed to work the problems, were not willing to meet outside of class, and did not put in the hours. My biggest challenge was finding someone willing to put in the time and who had the skills.
Dr. Williams is trying to create thinkers, which means his style is not for all. As he often says he does not develop the class he only teaches.it. This is what you pay your money to get. I paid and got an "C." While others paid and all they wanted to do was argue with the instructor. I mean, he will give you a drop up to the final.
Fellow students, you make your own decision. Chemistry is not a multiple choice q class. There is a process called the "drop/add," if do not like day one. He is consistent with his syllabus.
Williams teaches chemistry, doesnt develope it. YES it might be difficult, and challenging, but you MUST STUDY! youll regret it if u dont:(. EVRYTHING ON TEST is from notes. So write them down word 4 word! overall, hes a cool, nice guy. :-) again the major tip is STUDY HIS NOTES, thats where he makes the test from.

Mr. Williams was a great lab teacher. He was arrogent at times but he really wanted you to work with your collegues. He even told us he wouldnt reccomend himself for lecture. If he is just your lab teacher you will have some fun. Pay attention and you will get an A

His illustrations on the board look like caveman markings and hes not clear in explaining material. Lab is the reason you pass the class.

A very difficult teacher for a 131 class, but he does tell you what he wants you to know for the exams. Not helpful, boasts about having a masters and at times unprofessional. To pass, need to be an efficient notes taker, 90% of test is from things he writes on board and things he says. Good part is, lets you use cheat sheets for exams.

I cannot BELIEVE this man was allowed to "instruct" a lab in a real college. He is the saddest excuse for a lab professor I have ever encountered. We started off with 30 students and now there is about 15. It is expected that in college, you would have to teach yourself but he expects you to know things that only he would know and to rely on your only classmates for help. Even if you've mastered chem in HS, you will struggle. Save yourself a massive headache and do not take this class.
I have been attending HFCC for 3 years now, and I currently have a 3.80GPA, just so you know I am not a lazy student. However, this guy is terrible, easily the worst professor I have had at this school. He is completely unprofessional and like the poster before, do not ask him a question he will tell you to "ask your peers, playa". shouldn't teach.
This is INTRO TO CHEM and he acts as if you and your peers have had the class already!If you do not know the answer your gona have to ask your peers.We are paying him to teach us,not our peers, he was quick to say he is off that clock at 9:01 and that hfcc was his part time job he dont care he works at Wayne state. He broke one of our labs and then blamed it on my group. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Started with 25 and by the time I dropped there was 7. He's pathetic.
He was one of the worst professors i have ever taken.... his clarity is terrible, also he speaks to you as if you have a general knowledge of everything that he jumps into, and doesn't always answer questions that you may have.
I am a 4.0 student at HFC and Williams is VERY challenging. His tests are INSANE, highest score on our first test was 62. He talks to you as if you are a master in chemistry which makes everything quite confusing. He will help you if you ask, but only half the time it is helpful. Can't recommend, find another teacher if you value your GPA and time
Dr. Williams is very hard to follow. He jumps from topic to topic. He talks to you like you're a chemist. It's difficult to read his writing on the board. this teacher is tough, but by no means unfair. he very clearly defines what he expects from you at the start. he stays after every class for at least for an hour an a half, but he does not baby you at all. he teaches at community colleges the same you would expect a grad teacher to grade. listen to exactly what he says ad you'll be fine.
He just babbles on about chemistry as if we are seasoned chemists. Pretty much everyone dropped out of the class because of his inability to teach. tests are set up for you to fail.
Mr. Williams is really helpful; however, he is very precise at things like writing your Lab work with pen instead of pencil, showing all the working, writing all the units, etc. Other than that just show up to lab, do your lab assignment and if your having troubles wait after class and he will help you solve your lab assignment.

Professor William's was extremely difficult. If you really want an A you need to grind for it (I didn't get an A) but he's a really cool guy especially since he was my lab partner

Professor Williams is by far the most incompetent professor I have ever dealt with. Not only is he unclear and unprofessional, but he is also unorganized and disrespectful. Extremely rude to students. Does not teach, answer questions, or help. Takes points off for every single thing. Our entire class didnt even get full points on our SYLLABUS lab! Puts required information to pass inside of optional videos. Nobody in entire class got an A on anything. Hes impossible, unprofessional & takes forever to grade.

I try not to be too hard on profs but this man was truly the worst prof Ive ever had. Very unclear on what he wants, impossible grader, and just an awful lecturer. Our lecture prof had to give us links to another lab profs meetings just so we werent completely lost. He doesnt care about his students and offers no support Emailing him is pointless
I've never felt such a strong dislike towards a professor. He's AWFUL. He will grade your assignments with a magnifying glass. There were so many instances where he would lie on my assignments, just so he could deduct points. I wish I could give him a 0/5. Please avoid his class at all costs. Even if it means waiting another semester to take chem!!

The absolute worst professor I have ever had in my life. He made our lives a living hell. he does not care about anyone. I had chem professionals help me and still never scored an A on a single assignment. i am a 3.8 student btw. there were 4 people left by the end of the semester because everyone dropped out. i hope this saves a life
I read the bad reviews and still took him anyways because I know that there are many students who love to complain! But I can totally understand why they complain! Doesn't matter if you know CHEM well, he wants everything to go out his "methodology" way. His lectures suck, extremely slow. He only had good reviews YEARS AGO. Clearly smths changed
This class is not for the weak. If you want to do good in his class i suggest that you read the chapters before class and the lectures will make more sense. In addition, he's going to push you to think and work hard. I suggest you ask as many questions, because a closed mouth wont get feed. Lastly, he is a good person who has a sense of humor.
DON'T EVEN THINK OF TAKING HIM! He explains things in his own ways, he makes things harder than it seems and he doesn't accept any answers in his tests unless it's his own methodology, you don't even understand what he is grading you for or where did you do wrong. He thinks that you're a chem141 student when you actually came to chem111.
Each test is structured with the most complicated questions, there was one question on an exam which was an inorganic chemistry level question. When finishing the course I checked the gradebook and was amazed to see that the Professor attempted to give me a 0% on the final exam. Only after I threatened to go to the Dean was my grade changed!!!
This is not for the weak. If your looking for an easy grade and not into challenging yourself i suggest you don't take him. He will make you think because of how he formats the exam questions. Outside of that Professor Williams is a cool dude and is very understanding. The only way to understand his way of teaching is to actively ask questions.
