Prof. Wilson is a great guy. He tends to be a little scattered when it comes to his teaching. His tests are all right with the average of a B. But he gives a curve to every test so the average is an A. Tests are worth the same as everything else. I got a C, B, & B on his tests and ended up with an A in the class!
An amazing professor!Always taught with the Spirit and taught doctrine-plain and clear. Attendance is mandatory and so is nightly reading. There are six(easy) random quizes, and four 2-page papers are assigned as well. Three tests, including the final which I finished in 20 minutes. I highly recommend taking this class from him. Great experience.
I LOVED taking BoM121 with Bro Wilson! I enjoyed going to his lectures so much and I always walked away feeling edified, refreshed, and uplifted. He teaches the doctrine, not just BoM trivia facts, so it's totally worth your while to take the class. A good grade is definitely attainable with him if you try and he is SO NICE! Take the class!
Brother Wilson is such a sweetheart. He really cares about his students and his lectures are the bom.com. (no pun intended?) lol but seriously, he does a wonderful job on focusing on the Spirit rather than ridiculous scriptural trivia.
I love Brother Wilson!! He is a wonderful man who is always excited about what he is teaching. His enthusiasm for the Book Of Mormon shows through his teaching and he really gets everyone pumped to learn. I am anxiously waiting to take another class from him.
I want to take another class from Br. Wilson! He invites the Spirit into each and every class, knows his material inside and out, and doesn't throw you any curve balls when it comes to tests. Do your reading and attend class, and it is one of the best classes you can take. He knows the names of each student! Take a class from him!
Professor Wilson is my favorite professor I've ever had. New Testament was a great class, he taught it perfectly. He places emphasis on personal feelings and conversion as all religion classes should. He is a kind, humble man, and that makes him very approachable. I loved every minute of his class, he helped me feel the love of the Savior.
He's just a super nice man who tries hard to bring in the Spirit. Read and do the study guides and your grade will be fine.
Brother Wilson is a model religion professor. He has interesting, well though-out insights and lectures are great. His expectations in the course are made very clear from the beginning, and he goes out of his way to remind you about assignments. This class required more reading than any other religion class I've taken, but it was well worth it.
First, be careful what you say on here about Wilson because he reads the comments and alters his class accordingly! Anyway, Wilson is a nice guy, kinda weird, but nice. This is one of those classes where it's easy to get a B+ or A- but difficult to get an A. That's my only complaint. Just stay on top of everything, and study hard for the tests!
Really nice teacher. I took the 2 hour lesson and it made it hard to focus. Overall very caring teacher and his concluding remarks to the lessons are always very interesting and get you thinking. Easy A if you do the work
Great teacher. I loved the class and learned a lot.
Bro. Wilson is an amazing teacher. He always bring the spirit with his comments, and relates the doctrine from the New Testament to our lives. It's a privilege going to his class, and can't wait for the rest of the semester!
I think Bro. Wilson is the most caring professor I've ever had. It's a fine line a religion professor must walk, expounding factual information while still keeping it inspiring. I can't see anyone doing it any better. Take this man's class, you'll never regret it. I learned so many things about the Saviors life that I had no clue about before.
Br. Wilson is amazing! Not only does he take the time to learn everyone's names but he is extremely intelligent and very kindhearted. He makes a huge effort to get to know and make his students feel loved. Sometimes he strays from the subject but his lectures are very interesting. Tests are manageable if you do the study guides.Assignments are ea
He is amazing! Great stories too!
I really liked how personable he was...he really did learn everyone's name in a class of about 130. Test questions are usually straightforward but with the tough ones he's usually willing to negotiate.
Bro. Wilson is amazing! His classes are entertaining and his study guides are very clear cut. You need to go to class to do well though. This was an easy and enjoyable class, and I learned a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Way good professor! He is very understanding and you learn a lot in his class. He keeps your interest in the subject and the tests are fair. I would highly recommend taking his class
Brother Wilson is really fun! He really cares about each of his students. The papers are easy, because he respects everyone's point of view. Although the tests mostly just see how much of the lecture (Br. Wilson's ideas) you recall, he knows that you may have interpreted things differently, and you can argue for points back after the test.
Bro. Wilson is such a great professor. His lessons are always spiritually uplifting, but he also includes a lot of historical context. He really cares about his students and tries to learn everyones name. Funny, sweet man. Go to class because he has pop quizzes and his tests mirror his lectures exactly.
Bro. Wilson is the best religion professor I've had so far at BYU. If you go to class and take good notes, there's no reason to not get an A. The pop quizzes can be a bit tricky, but he offers plenty of extra credit to make up for it if you've done the class reading. Every class was spiritually uplifting, and he's got a crazy good memory for names!
Awesome! Take honors! He cares for each and every student, is flexible to make sure each student gets everything done. The tests are reasonable, he puts everything on the study guides for the most part. Make sure you come to class, take good notes, and read the material so you get self rated points every day. 300w papers are turned in via email!
I've taken courses(and loved them)from Bott,Parker,Perkins, etc.But I never had a religion teacher impact me as much as Brother Wilson did. He cares for his students more than any professor I've met and respects you as if you were his colleague. He has the most genuine sense of humor, too. I recommend him more highly than any other professor at BYU.
Bro. Wilson is a nice guy, and knows his stuff. I found the class itself to be very easy, but the tests were quite hard in my opinion. He rarely uses PowerPoints and I found it hard to stay awake in his class. If you aren't paying attention and writing what he says, you won't do well on the tests. Quizzes are easy if you read the student manual.
WILSON IS THE MAN!!! He knows so much about the New Testament, and his lectures are among the best I have ever heard a college professor give. He has the greatest stories that illustrate the points he makes very poignant. Tests are fair, as are quizes, short papers and grading. You will be glad you took this class!!!!
Are we talking about the same teacher? He's a well meaning guy, but class was awful. He talked about the crucifixion in such gruesome detail-a kid fainted in our class. Spirit was not there. Reading didn't go with lecture. Work is overall doable, but class is not enjoyable. I plan to audit class w/ new teacher to get something out of the NT.
One of the greatest religion prof. because he actually cares about you and your spirituality. This class has strengthened my testimony so much. Very helpful and understanding. Do the readings, study guide and attend class and you will get an A. The study guides takes some time but the assn. and readings are are fast and meaningful. Great Class!
He's super awesome and pretty flexible. If you need help or got a bad grade on a test, he's more than willing to help and understand. Also, soooo funny. Tells fun stories and stuff to keep you entertained. He loves the subject and it shows...you learn alot in this class
Professor wilson Is a sweet guy, talks with his hands a lot. But when you get past his niceness and hit the test you will regret taking the class from Wilson. He doesn't really prepare you for tests, and I have learned more about his life then the scriptures. He took one lecture to talk about why he met and married his wife. But He's super nice!
Wilson is probably the best grandpa any kid could wish for. You will get a couple things per lecture that are enlightening. Tests are basically from the study guide. If you ask, he will meet with you for any reason. he is the sweetest man, and cares about individual testimonies. Papers are easy, but take them seriously. Overall grades are curved
He's a cool teacher that knows a lot of stuff, but if you don't write everything he says tests will be near impossible. He gives a study guide that is almost exactly the test but the study guide itself takes about 5 hours to complete.
Bro. Wilson is a great teacher that loves his students -- he's very "one on one" and enjoys what he teaches. I would definitely take one of his classes again -- he isn't overbearing when it comes to grading but be prepared to work (write a few short papers and spending time filling out the study guides) and you'll learn so much! Take his class :)
Get Brother Wilson!! The kindest, sweetest man. This class isn't that difficult if you put in a little effort, but you learn so much! Bro. Wilson cares about each student individually - he learned all our names. Go to office hours, he gives you apples and homemade caramel. I love this guy. Great stories, awesome spirit about him. Truly humble.
Great Prof. Love the NT cause of him. Papers are graded easy, but are all really intriguing topics and not difficult. Very interesting lectures - learn a lot you wouldn't get just from casual reading. He learned everyone's names. Tests weren't bad and a lot of your grade is based on class attendance and other easy things. Highly recommend.
Brother Wilson is a very kindhearted man. His powerpoints are available on blackboard, but you usually only use them when you're filling out the study guide. He gives you 'papers', more like responses. I liked how he doesn't, as he says, 'teach to a test' but tests on what he teaches. Tests aren't hard, but go to class every day; big part of grade.
I absolutely loved Brother Wilson. He is the most amazing professor. You still have to do work in the class but they aren't too hard. As long as you fill out the study guide for the test you will do great. He is a wonderful professor and I loved this class!! Take it from him if you can!
Brother Wilson is a way nice guy and class was always interesting. Be sure to write down everything he says, even when it seems like a tangent or side-note, because it will show up on the test. Not a hard teacher, just confusing.
I took this class because I had a hard load and needed an easy class with a fun professor, but apparently this was not the right class for me. You have to know how to take his tests and there are trick questions, after learning how he tests the class is a lot easier and bro wilson is a good teacher, but you have to know how to take his tests.
I agree with some of the negative comments, yeah you do have to get the feel for his tests, but overall a great class. Just put it in some quality study time and you will ace the class. He is SO willing to help and listen. DO A STUDY GROUP FOR TESTS. He does do a little Wilson doctrine, gets a little side-tracked, but overall good class.
This is an awful class. Never take it from professor Wilson. His tests are impossible and he tests you on things that don't matter at all like the percentages of people who at some point will drop out of the church. If you want a good spiritual experience instead of pain and miserydon't take from him.
Absolutely awesome professor. He's such a great guy. He really cared about our understanding and gladly took time to know you personally. However, his tests are extremely difficult. He has a lot of superfluous questions and random trivia-based sections in the exams, like inactivity percentages and stuff. Great class, but take notes like crazy.
Although a nice guy, Professor Wilson is unprofessional and doesn't teach well. I got an A in the class, but only after memorizing ridiculous facts that didn't help my understanding of the New Testament. The manual for the class was great, but he doesn't teach from it at all. The tests are very difficult. I was very disappointed with this class.
If you want a good religion class, take it from Brother Wilson. He brings the spirit into each lesson. I looked forward to it each day like I do food. I left feeling uplifted each and every time. He cares about his students and the message he shares is always addressed to our needs as students, and he always seemed to hit the mark.
Great guy and knows his stuff. I was bored for the first part of the class but once I started to get into it I really loved the class. He wants you to succeed and will allow you to get points back on exams if you put in the effort studying. Do the easy papers, the reading, take REALLY detailed notes, do the study guides and you'll be set!
Professor Wilson is a really sincere guy and knows the scriptures really well. He has some really spiritual lectures and I learned a lot from this class. I felt the Spirit often in class, and enjoyed being there. The tests are not terrible, but sometimes a bit particular. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Bro. Wilson's is an awesome person. I loved his class and learned a lot. He teaches with the spirit and cares about his students. The class is very doable and not overwhelming at all. He gives it the perfect balance.
Brother Wilson is a great teacher! He is not afraid to drop questions on tests if the majority of students don't get them right and has interesting lectures. Don't get behind on reading though, because he has quizzes and reading logs that you have to fill out daily.
this guy is L-E-G-I-T. take his class you won't regret it
Professor Wilson was awesome. The class was exciting and the tests weren't too hard.
Bro. Wilson's class is great. He cares about his students, makes an effort to get to know everyone, and teaches with the spirit. The tests are not difficult, just make sure you take notes or the study guides can be difficult
Bro. Wilson is the man! Sincere and interesting. Do your reading, attend class and take notes and you'll get an A. He gives you a study guide for each exam with all the possible questions he will put on the exam. Easy class, but more importantly, full of the Spirit every time.
I LOVED Brother Wilson's class. I heard horror stories about awful religion class experiences, but his is NOT one of those. He teaches with the Spirit and focuses on principles instead of minor details and plot summary. I would have taken him again this semester if it wasn't for the dumb freshman bundling.
Very awesome professor!!! He always had the Spirit with him as he was teaching class. He always had a big smile on his face. He cares about everyone in his class. I think you will enjoy his class a lot because I did! :)
Brother Wilson is amazing. The Spirit is always very strong. He sincerely cares about all of his students and loves the New Testament and knows a lot about it. The class is very interesting and useful. Go to class, take good notes, and do the study guides for the tests and you will do great!
Bro. Wilson is awesome! He really teaches by the spirit, and you learn something new every class period. He gives study guides for every test and the assignments are worthwhile. Most of all, he really cares about bring his students closer to the Savior. :)
Brother Wilson is a great teacher. Sometimes he goes off on some tangents that leave little time for the lesson. He sometimes gives daily quizzes that are pretty easy but it never specifies when he will give them. His tests are pretty easy as well. I really enjoyed the class!
love this class! he is the best! he let us go to his house to pick apples from his apple tree! for the win!
Although his study guides and test material aren't always clear, he is a WONDERFUL teacher and a very caring man. Sometimes you have to read his mind on the tests, but his lectures were very inspiring. He tries very hard to make a difference, and he succeeds. Tries to memorize names and loves to help one on one.
He is so nice. He learns everyone's names and tries to help you out, but the class is rather confusing and hard. He talks a lot and you don't really know what's important, so basically you just need to write everything down and hope you got it. The tests and quizzes are hard, but thank goodness he gives a study guide or I would have failed...
Was really excited to take this class, but I found actual class time a tad boring. He's a great person and has great stories but sometimes talks about stuff I think is non-relevant. Pretty easy class for the most part, except the tests you need to know some random facts.
Brother Wilson is an awesome teacher. His lectures were occasionally a little dry (but whose aren't?) His tests aren't bad as long as you put in the effort. I learned a lot about the Book of Mormon and I would definitely take a class from him again.
Really nice guy, quizzes are fair. Tests are way random and aren't really based on New Testament learning. Most is just random quotes by prophets, his personal doctrine that he asks on, etc. His tests are poorly written on numerous questions, but about 60% of it is real easy. The rest is vague and inconclusive and random.
Dr. Wilson is extremely nice. I really enjoyed his class (though, as others have said, the lectures could sometimes be a little dry). However, most of the material was very interesting. Easy quizzes and easy tests, as long as you put in a little bit of study time. All in all, I recommend Dr. Wilson as a religion professor.
Attendance is mandatory. He is very nice and grades on a curve. Easy A- but you really have to work to get an A. Lots of busy work.
Brother Wilson is an incredible teacher! This class takes effort, but it is well worth it. He knows lots about Jewish culture and has traveled to many of the places discussed in the New Testament, which enables him to give very personal and detailed insights into the events in the Savior's life. Definitely take this class from him!
I loved Brother Wilson so much- he was by far my favorite teacher last semester. He teaches with the Spirit, tries to learn everyone's names, is extremely fair, and really loves what he does. I would most certainly take from him if possible. Actually, even if it's not possible, I'd try to get him anyway.
I loved Brother Wilson's class - he is quite possibly the kindest teacher I've ever had. He not only taught us doctrine from the scriptures - included some amazing experiment assignments that left me completely enlightened - but he also helped us know the reasons and existing proof for these doctrines. I grew so much spiritually from his class.
Bro. Wilson is amazing! I looked forward to coming to class everyday. He really helped me appreciate the New Testament more. Quizzes randomly throughout the semester but are super easy and you drop your lowest score. Tests are super easy if you come to class and fill out the study guide he gives you. Def. take a class from him!
I felt the spirit in class each day! Reading was required for each class period, quizzes randomly which are easy if you read, study guide for the test which helps a ton, take good notes in class. You pretty much have to go to class every day, but if you just go to class and do the reading then you already have a B+ in the bag. Great class.
Brother Wilson is without a doubt my favorite professor on campus. His classes are very insightful and you learn a ton. He really knows his stuff and you can tell he has a true passion for it. I took BOM from him last year and never want to take a religion class unless he teaches it. Seriously best teacher ever.
Brother Wilson in the best human being. I seriously loved his class so much. He has a good heart, and that is where he teaches from, so you learned how to be like Christ as well as come to know Christ. He's really understanding and wants you to succeed. There is no busy work, everything you do helps you grow spiritually and in general.
Brother Wilson is a really nice guy. However, I had a hard time learning from him. His teaching technique and my learning style did not match and it made it hard for me to do well on his tests on quizzes. His lectures seemed to be all over the place. Other than that, I really liked him... But I will be finding a different religion teacher.
Take it from Wilson. He is great. Got an A, learned alot, classes were fun. He taught with the spirit. Cared about us as students. He learns everyones name too. I got an 80 on the first test, talked to him about it and he bummed me up to an 88. Great guy. Should you take him? Heck yes. Enjoy!
Professor Wilson truly cares for his students. I really looked forward to going to class, because it was quite uplifting. Make sure you do the reading (not hard) because if you don't, his in class quizzes can be tricky. He never gave any hard assignments, but everything was very useful. The key to passing his class is reading and going.
Very nice guy, extremely nice in fact. Unfortunately, also very disorganized. Attendance mandatory; Tests based on the 60-80 question study guide he puts out a few days before. Most don't involve facts of narrative-ex."what did elder x say about that." Tests often throw curveballs, though prof. does throw out 2-4?'s raising grade 5-8%. Wild ride.
LOVE this guy! I learned so much about the Book of Mormon. Very fair tests, if you complete the study guide you will do fine. Take good notes and attend the class and it is an easy A. You will learn so much for him. Such a caring and intelligent guy. I would recommend him any day.
Enjoyed his perspective on the NT, no really crazy fringe doctrine. Provides a study guide to fill out for tests, but you'll never be able to do it without notes from attending class. He posts lecture slides, but those are almost all pictures, so go to every class. Respects students, and makes it a point to know names. Reading, 4 papers, 3 tests.
Brother Wilson is a really caring man who laughs at all his own jokes. He is a really easy going teacher, which is hard to find at BYU in the Religion dept. Study guides for all tests, short papers (all about you and the gospel) and a few quizzes.
Brother Wilson is a way good guy with the sweetest heart in the world. His class wasn't the super intense learning/spiritual experience I expected out of BYU. His tests were worded weird and you definitely needed to attend class and memorize every lecture. I would take the class from a different professor even though I loved him as a person.
I loved this man! I can't recommend a class more than this one. I learned so much about the NT and of how to become a better person through Christ. His main focus is inviting the spirit to do the teaching. MUST TAKE!
Friendly, good sense of humor and makes a priority of knowing his students by name. My only complaint is that his tests often contain obscurely worded questions. Attention to wording in quotes is necessary for surviving this class. Also note, you are graded for attendance and reading EVERY class period.
What an awesome class. I learned so much from him. Class is mandatory and you need to go to class because his slides just have pictures and quotes on them. If you do the study guide and study it, you will do well on the test. Take the class from him. He's amazing
Br. Wilson is a great professor, he really cares. Don't bother buying the textbook-it's all on lds.org. It's important to go to class because what is tested comes from what he says, not slides or the book, but he provides comprehensive study guides. His lessons are both interesting and spiritually strengthening. I definitely recommend this class.
You HAVE to do the readings. There are quizzes at the beginning every couple class periods. His tests are based on his opinions on things, not necessarily on doctrine or what the book says, so listen up! He is SO passionate- it was a privilege to take this class from him.
Very, very nice guy. I got very good grades on his tests, despite the fact his study guides are beastly 12 page-80 question nightmares while the tests are around 30 questions and very tricky. What is great about this class is his weird love for violent things. Seriously he told SOOO many disturbing stories, especially right before you left
Fantastic class. I learned SO much. Bro. Wilson is wonderful - very nice, very kind and understanding. He will help you with anything he can. His review sessions shouldn't be missed! He's not an easy A, but if you're willing to work at it, he'll back you up every time. Loved this class - wish I could take more from him!
He is soooo amazing. TAKE HIM. I mean it, do it.
I love Bro Wilson. He loves the Book of Mormon and teaches it in a fun way. He is super helpful and will do everything he can in order to give you the grade you deserve. Not super challenging, gives you a study guide before each test. Take this class from him. He is awesome.
What you need to know is that you should take notes like crazy because his tests are very lecture based. In fact the readings are almost pointless for test preparation. The paper assignments are worthwhile and not difficult.
Brother wilson was the best teacher I have ever had. He was extremely caring, his lectures invited the spirit, and he did everything to make sure everyone succeeded.
I LOVE BROTHER WILSON. He is such a sweet man. This class is super easy and you learn so much. I am taking the second part of Book of Mormon from Wilson this semester. TAKE IT FROM HIM. This class really is amazing. Much easier than other teachers.
A spiritual rock and a bit of a goof. I love him! TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM :) Gives you a study guide that is very accurate to the tests, and curves them. Do your reading, and you'll do well on the little pop quizzes. There's an easy (but stimulating) paper due every few weeks. Wish I had taken him for first semester BoM too!!
I don't write ratings usually, but for Brother Wilson, I have to. He is by far my favorite teacher. Not only is his extremely knowledgeable, but he truly cares about his students and their needs. His lectures are very interesting, and there isn't a heavy workload (which is nice). His tests are very fair. I love this teacher!
He's fine. He teaches pretty basic stuff -- does not go into doctrine very much. If I were to go back, I'd try taking it from someone else.
Absolutely loved this teacher! He makes class super interesting and fun! Never enjoyed reading my scriptures as much as I did in his class! Wish I could have him for all of my religion classes!
Love him! He is the cutest old man with a great sense of humor. A couple of 400 word papers that are very meaningful if you put in effort. Tests are completely lecture based and essentially the study guide in test form. Not too hard, definitely felt the spirit a ton! I'll be taking more religion classes from him. Take this from him!
I do not understand why he has so many good reviews. I was super disappointed in this class, especially because I was so excited to take it. Super boring lectures, takes attendance TWICE in class (it's basically your whole grade), busy work and nit-picky quiz questions. If you want to actually learn about the New Testament take a different class.
His Class is so boring. He takes attendance. He doesn't spend that much time in the actual scriptures more says what he thinks. His study guide sucks and is impossible to finish because its all about what he says in class so notes are a necessary. I would not take from him.
AWESOME teacher. I strongly recommend taking it from him. His tests are very fair and everyone does well on them. He brings the Spirit to class and makes the new testament so entertaining.
If your intention for taking this class is to learn more about and become closer to your Savior, please take it from Him. I have never felt the Spirit more strongly in a religion class. The tests are in depth, but manageable if you study.
Brother Wilson is extremely helpful and kind. Definitely see him during office hours if you get a score that you don't like on a test. He is fair :). If you plan on skipping class a lot--don't take this class. About a third of the grade is attendance related. If you know the study guide, do the reading, and attend class you should get an A.
Wilson is a great teacher. He really helps every student get a good grade. All you really have to do is go to class. The study guides for the tests are perfect so you don't have to guess what's on them. Definitely take him! He is the best!
Very helpful and keeps class interesting.
Best class. Take it. But also know you must show up and take notes. The study guides are critical to the tests. But I seriously only studied for a sum title of 1 hour for each test and got above a 90 each time. Take it from him. He is easier than Guy Dorius.
When I say "lectures are long" I mean his lectures are long. They seem to drag on and we hardly ever get to the point of his lesson until the last 10 minutes when he has to cram 6 other chapters from the Book of Mormon in there. We usually go over time and he tends to get off the subject a lot. A very sweet caring man but his class is boring.
There are only a few quizzes and assignments and he drops quite a few of them. He's very personable and lectures are always fun. He gives great lectures. The tests aren't that hard. He usually takes the material straight from lectures in class. He makes an effort to get to know his students personally and is always willing to help you out.
Bro Wilson is an awesome professor who knows a lot about the subject. He cared for his students enough to get to know all of our names. His tests aren't super easy, but the study guides are a big help if you have gone through each question yourself. Great Professor!
Bro Wilson is a strange and wonderful guy. He has so much he wants to tell you that the class often runs over a few minutes. Gives a lot of pop quizzes on the reading and some of the questions on his tests aren't super clear but he throws out questions if most ppl miss them. 6 papers to write, they're short and easy to get an A on. I recommend him!
Brother Wilson is a great teacher. You can tell that he really cares about his students and he's very merciful with his pop quiz grades. If you attend class and take good notes, the tests aren't hard and the papers etc. aren't difficult at all.
Bro. Wilson is amazing! A bit of a goofball, he brings the spirit into the room through touching examples and true Gospel knowledge. It is obvious that he has a deep love and care for his students, knowing them all by name. Attendance is a big part of your grade, as well as pop quizzes and some meaningful and brief papers. Merciful test-giver.
Bro. Wilson is a great professor, he really wants you to do well in his class. You have to do the readings and pay attention in class to do well on the quizzes and tests, but the tests are fairly easy. He makes lectures a blast every time, definitely one of my favorite hours of the day. He tells you exactly what he wants from the class.
A very well balanced religion class. Spiritual, easy, and fun. Has lots of spiritual stories he brings into every lecture and loves to tell little jokes to keep class interesting. As long as you go to class and look at the study guides before the tests you will do great.
Brother Wilson's passion for the Book of Mormon can be felt in every lecture. A large portion of your grade is dependent on doing the readings and showing up, so missing class is a really bad idea. Other than that, the workload is pretty low; you have about six 500 word papers spread out through the semester.
This professor ruined my testimony. He is a sweet guy but not a good teacher. He is goofy and wastes class time telling stories. It's unclear what is on his tests and he doesn't exactly reach out to his students like other religion teachers at BYU.
Easily the best class I've taken at BYU.
This class was SO EASY. I didn't read one page of the Book of Mormon or the student manual all semester and I got an A on every test. All you have to do is show up to class to get your attendance points, review the study guide (definitely start a googledoc) and complete the 5 writing homework assignments. SO EASY. Also he had a great sense of humor
Loved lectures, total testimony builder, Bro Wilson is such a sweet and hilarious guy! Every assignment is a completion grade except for the tests. He discourages google docs but doesn't prohibit them. Honestly using one is the only way you'll do well on the tests. Study hard the day before a test + do nothing else but enjoy lecture A.
Love him! The study guide always seems impossible to fill out but if you pay attention in class and do the reading you should get an A
Professor Wilson had a lot of information about the New Testament (mostly the Gospels). I feel like this class was more focused on information rather than feeling the Spirit. I also felt like some of the information was more his opinion than anything else (some of which I didn't agree with).
Brother Wilson is the best religion teacher at BYU hands down! He is excited about the gospel and teaches with such charisma and passion. He requires 5 papers throughout the semester but they are very short and you get full points for completion. Tests are extremely reasonable. Most importantly he WANTS his students to do well!
Wilson's class provided me with more homework and studying than any religion class at BYU ever has, and I left the class feeling less uplifted than I have in any other religion class. Wilson takeself, and the class, way too seriously. He needs to take a long look in the humble mirror.
I wish I could just sit down with Bro. Wilson and pick his brain. He knows so much! But he never lets the material go over your head, he challenges you but always keeps the material within your reach. The tests are not too hard if you go to class, the pop quizzes are easy if you do the readings, you basically get an A on the papers if you do them.
Brother Wilson's class completely changed my life. I learned more about the gospel and about Christ this semester than I ever have before. All the assignments and lectures are tailored to help you learn and grow as a person as well. He is very clear and understanding on his grading. Study guides for tests. Graded on reading assignments. Great class
I enjoyed Brother Wilson's lectures and how the class was organized. A couple papers, outside scripture study, and a commitment to increase your knowledge of the New Testament is all you need to get a good grade in his class. Very generous in grading quizzes if you've done the reading. Only complaint: he seemed rushed during lecture time.
Brother Wilson was one of the worst religion professors I have had. He does not teach clearly and often goes off on tangents that he thinks help the lesson. He will also keep you 3-5 minutes after class telling one of his stories and honestly does not help his students. His homework isn't bad but watch for the random facts he asks about on tests.
Brother Wilson lays out his classes so that you will get a TON out of class if you do the readings, and not as much if you don't. If you want a class in which the professor enriches and rewards you for reading before class, then Brother Wilson is your professor!
Great teacher, really cares about the students and wants to them learn and understand the doctrine he has come to love. Inspirational, helpful, just not amazing. Just a pretty good class and experience.
Tests aren't about trivia, only "the good stuff". Admittedly different personality than an ordinary BYU prof. Tests are straightforward, esp if you form a review session the day before. Is very generous with points on quizzes and essays. Lectures were interesting. If you do the reading honestly, you'll get a good grade. Would take again.
This teacher is absolutely inspiring. I have not enjoyed any other religion class at BYU or BYU Hawaii but Brother Wilson has been amazing. I love his lectures and gained a testimony of Christ's life and where he actually lived and walked in this class. His passion for the subject really shone through. His tests are difficult so make sure to study.
Brother Wilson is a very inspirational teacher. A lot of emphasis is based on attendance, and taking good notes is important to doing well on the midterm and final. I would take again from Brother Wilson. He is a little less "academic" about the New Testament, more on the spiritual application side, but one of the best teachers for Rel 211.
Amazing professor. I always left his class enlightened. His tests can be tough if you don't go to class, but seriously go to class. You won't regret it.
Wilson is really nice. If you do your daily reading, and show up to class, you can pretty much get an A. The papers are SO EASY. EVERYONE always got A's unless they didn't turn them in. Lectures can be tangent sometimes. Not really sure what to take notes on. But the study guides are very intensive for the two tests.
Lectures focus more on what he believes and thinks, rather than what is actually in the scriptures. Lots of reading- its not hard though. Lectures can be really boring. Tests are easy, he sends out a study guide which is detailed. Tests are on his beliefs rather than what you think or what church doctrine is. I would not take his class again.
Brother Wilson is pretty funny, kind of a weirdo. It's a pretty straightforward religion class. His quizzes and test are worded kind of weird to make you second guess yourself. He wants you to succeed so ask for help if needed.
I absolutely ADORE Bro. Wilson. A friendly face and legitimately cares for you as a person. Write anything on the paper and get an A and a friendly comment. Take him if you want your religion credit taken care of and just have a relaxing class. He does go on tangents though so if you want to focus on BoM, maybe not take him
I absolutely love Brother Wilson. He is so genuine and kind. There are many academically difficult religion classes on BYU campus, but this is not one of them. You are able to spiritually grow without having to worry too much about your grade. Participation is very important. I'm taking 122 from him next semester because I loved it so much.
Love his lectures. Goes on some tangents, beware. Take lots of notes, verbatim if you can. I just enjoyed feeling the spirit in his class
Bro. Wilson is an extraordinary man. He was always willing to answer any emails or take time in the office to talk about any questions, whether related to class discussions or not. The class was very easy; minimal work outside of class. As far as BoM classes goes, his is the best.
This is my favorite professor. He gives very interesting lectures that are deep and focused. He does not grade very tough but her does expect you to do your work. Love this class, love this professor.
I LOVE BROTHER WILSON. He is the best teacher I've ever had at BYU. Tests are super easy. Papers are super easy, kinda like journal entries. He gives meaningful assignments that don't feel like busy work at all. His lectures sometimes get off topic but he always ends on a super inspirational story/thought.
Talks a lot about the different opinions of scholars, but is not good at resolving doubts. If you are just there for the grade, he's great, but don't go for a spiritually uplifting class.
Amazing professor! He wants you to get an A!
Prof. Wilson is awesome. Great teacher. Loves the subject. Not too many papers and tests and those he does give are easy. Keeps you long after the bell almost everyday, which can be extremely annoying. Overall a great class. Not too hard. Learned a lot.
Brother Wilson was the best. I loved going and you could tell he genuinely cared about his students' success and knowledge on the subject. He usually keeps you after the bell for a bit, but other than, great teacher.
I really liked New Testament, so I was already somewhat familiar with some of it. However, I still learned a lot anyway. Loves to share cultural aspects to give additional insights and shares a touching personal story at the end of most lectures. Plenty of trick questions on tests, so STUDY (he gives a study guide). If you do, you will do fine.
Do the readings EVERY day, they add up to more points than you think. They are weighted the same as an exam. There are about 10 quizzes, they are random, but you get to know when to expect them. He provides great study guides for the exams.
His lectures are confusing & weren't always doctrinally based, mostly just his opinion. His lectures run at least 5 mins late every day. He asks a lot of trick questions that aren't scripturally based on the tests, and the final is harder than the midterms. His lecture slides on learning suite are useless for anything other than quotes.
aced the first two tests thanks to his reviews. if you go to class, read and look over the review before the tests there is no way not to get an A in the class. descent doctrinal exposure though he is prone to teach the gospel according to brother wilson.
He's awesome and has a dry sense of humor. He's more concerned about your personal experiences than you spending 100 hours memorizing random information. If you just do the reading and pay attention, you'll get an A.
Decently easy A. Make up work possible, not much homework at all. Mostly just wants to know that you have a testimony. Misses half the stuff he wanted to talk about but still tells great stories. Taking another class by him because I liked him so much. 30% of grade comes from attendance and reading the scriptures.
Brother Wilson is a fantastic religion professor! He really makes you fall in love with the scriptures and he doesn't demand a ton of effort. His philosophy is that he shouldn't demand a lot from his students so that he doesn't give them any negative experiences with the word of God. If you read your scriptures every day, you're sure to get an A.
I really wish I could say something positive about his class because Br. Wilson is a really nice guy. However, I find issue with the way he runs his class. It is difficult to take notes because he skips around and gets distracted by stories. And without good notes, the tests are impossible. Would not recommend. But, again, nice guy.
He's a great teacher who loves what he teaches, but if you skip class, you'll get really behind and miss pop quizzes.
I just love Brother Wilson. He is honestly one of the most genuine professors I have ever had. He tries hard to make sure his students are taken care of and learning more about the gospel. The tests are based directly off of his study guides but can be tricky but nothing too bad . I am planning on taking New Testament from his next semester.
Assignments/papers are easy. Practically just complete them for 100%. Tests, though, are hard and his study guides aren't the most helpful, however, he leaves his tests open for up to 10 days, with only one or two late days, so you have plenty of time to study. Test averages are about 85%. Make sure to read, as there are pop quizzes.
The class was very easy, full credit on short papers for simply completing the assignments. Pop quizzes can be rough but usually he gives tons of free-bees. He has way too many slides and content for each lecture. It gets really scattered and rushed everyday. Reading is big part of the grade plus gospel reading outside of the assigned chapters.
I love Brother Wilson! He's genuinely concerned for his students and their understanding. Sometimes it's not clear what he's expecting for exams, but you can tell he loves the gospel and loves teaching.
Bro Wilson was a bit of a spaz. His lectures would go all over the place. They were personally hard to follow between his stammering with his "uh's" and "um's". What he said really didn't go with the power points so pretty much write down everything he says or you'll be lost.
I love Brother Wilson. He is so nice and willing to help. I learned so much about the BoM from him! He gives you an exam review packet that has 70 possible questions that will be on the test (only 35 are actually on the test), so there aren't any surprises. All of his slides are online so just take notes on what he says and you will ace the tests.
Brother Wilson is my favorite teacher I have had at BYU. I took both sections of Book of Mormon with him and loved them both. He is so willing to help you if you put in the effort. He brings the Spirit to every class and taught me so much. I would highly recommend him.
Good -NIce -Tets are pretty easy -A lot is graded on participation Bad -Readings are long -Study guides are long and don't help with the test always -Pop quizzes are tough and annoying
Good -NIce -Tets are pretty easy -A lot is graded on participation Bad -Readings are long -Study guides are long and don't help with the test always -Pop quizzes are tough and annoying -Gives a lot of papers
New Testament part 1 was my favorite religion class at BYU. It was inspirational (Dr. Wilson has at least one touching story per lecture), and I learned so much. He is a great teacher, and if you try, you should get an A. The pop-quizzes are even fun (if that is possible). Take this class, you won't regret it!
Brother Wilson is a great spiritual teacher. I enjoyed the spirit that was in his class. He assigns papers that are purely subjective so he grades very easy with those. It is important to go to class because he often tests on small or poignant points that aren't apparent just by reading. Also, his study guides are very, very close to the tests.
Great choice for Book of Mormon. Wants the class to be spiritual and doesn't try to make the coursework more complex or time consuming than it needs to be.
Terrible teacher. He just sits in front of everyone and rambles. Barely useless powerpoints. Expects you to know about things he said. Study guides are pointless and very specific and there is no way to find answers unless you reread all of the scriptures, powerpoint don't help because they're just pictures that he took in Jerusalem.
Tough to follow in class. He is a really good guy but doesn't really teach what's on his tests and gives really specific study guides and tests that take hours to complete. Nice dude, bad class. I wouldn't recommend.
Awesome dude! He isn't focused on memorizing facts on the BOM, but focuses on concepts we read about. Homework is to read 10-15mins a night which is doable. There's a short paper about every 3 weeks on topics he chooses but they are uplifting and quick to write. I loved this class and am signed up for his BOM pt. 2 class. Take this!
I would not take this class from Bro. Wilson. He's a nice guy and all, but his lectures are story time and he rarely talks about concrete doctrine. His tests are INSANE compared to his lectures, however he does give a pretty comprehensive study guide for the tests.
Professor Wilson is probably one of the best guys I have ever met. He has a love for the gospel that is insirational. His lectures are inspirstional. I have left that class many times feeling ready to take on whatever the world would throw at me. He is also very personal, he will get to know you and really cares. Have to do your reading. Take him!
He is amazing. He is probably one of the best people I have ever met. His live for the gospel is inspiring. The test's are straight forward. He doesn't want to trick you. He really care's deeply about all his students and wants to help them. I have left that class many times wanting to do better in a lot of areas of my life. He is the man!!
This class is amazing! I have learned so much! There are a lot pop quizzes, but they aren't too bad. He is pretty funny and he is very willing to work with students.
Professor Wilson was a great guy! He is such a funny teacher, and has lots of stories! That being said though, I would not take from him again, because he never gets through his lectures as he is too distracted telling stories, then his tests are very detailed and specific. He is very willing to work with you though and is just an awesome person!
Professor Wilson is immensely passionate about the New Testament. PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURES! He takes small things from his textbook or lecture and puts them on the test - you will want to know the little details. However, Professor Wilson is out to see you succeed, so don't worry too much in this class.
I honestly had a hard time with his tests, they are very specific to things said in class and honestly I couldn't always remember everything he said.
Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to taking a religion class, and I added this class at the last minute. That was the best choice of my life! I loved Professor Wilson. He cares for everyone, and he's passionate about his material. Write down everything he says, it'll help. I loved this class so much that I'm taking another one of his classes.
Brother Wilson is a great professor. Very warm and funny, and tries to get to know everyone in class. He likes to go off on tangents, so there's that. Make sure you read EVERYTHING!! The scriptures and especially the student manual. There are a lot of pop quizzes, and many of the questions are on little details. Overall, a great class.
Super awesome guy. Loves the new testament. Tries to show new insights and helps you to really understand it. Test can be a little difficult if you don't pay attention in class. You get what you go for and its easy to get a ton out of class if you do the readings and try to learn something new.
His lectures are incredibly important. It may seem like he's going off an tangents a lot, but they'll end up being like three exam questions from those tangents, so you need to take good notes. Filling out and looking over the study guides he makes really help on the exams.
Bro. Wilson is the best! He is so caring, funny, and his lectures were amazing. He brings the spirit but his class isn't unnecessarily difficult. Just a few quizzes and easy papers. The tests are easy if you do the study guide. I liked his class so much I'm taking another one from him. Very good religion professor!
He is such a kind and sweet man, but I did not love him as a professor. I honestly learned more from my seminary classes in high school. He constantly runs out of time and doesn't end up getting to all the material. He also goes off on tangents a lot. Tests are easy but you have to attend class because there are pop quizzes that cannot be made up.
Brother Wilson is awesome. His tests are so ambiguous but if you study the reviews you will do decent. A huge part of your grade is class preparation and attendance, so go to class and read the manual/scriptures for the next day. Do his papers, auto full points. He shares the most spiritual moments, only problem is sometimes goes over to do it.
Super nice guy and very understanding. He often gave us points back on quiz questions for pretty much no reason. The only thing is you literally have to listen to every detail of his lectures. Not that his tests are beyond difficult but they do take a fair amount of studying. Pay attention, take notes, have a study group.
Great fellow. Tells lots of stories, really tries to help the students. You can tell he cares. Another thing I liked was that he was mindful with assignments--they really made you think and grow.
Brother Wilson is awesome. His class is so easy! And he is willing to listen to students lives. I he feels they have a credible reason for midpoint on a test or a quiz, he is more than happy to give it back. The papers are just short reflection papers. He gives good study guides for tests. Literally, the easiest religion class at BYU.
Awesome professor. His classes are pretty easy to succeed in. He cares for all his students and gets to know them each by name. I loved classes with him, and will happily take more classes from him in the future. Furthermore, his insights are fantastic.
Brother Wilson is a great professor! I've taken both Book of Mormon and New Testament from him. His lectures are really unique. He brings a lot of interesting insight to each of the topics he discusses. If you pay attention to his lectures and take good notes, studying for the exams will be pretty easy and you'll do well!
Brother Wilson gives you every chance to pass possible. If you struggle in this class, then you are slacking. He conveys what you need to know for tests very well. His class is so funny. Definitely would recommend.
I do not know what it was, but I could not succeed in this class. Bro Wilson's teaching style just wasn't for me. Regardless of how much I studied or took notes I always did terribly on the tests. This was such a frustrating class because everyone else seemed to be succeeding and I wasn't no matter how hard I tried.
I took as many religion classes as I could from Professor Wilson. He is a people's person and it's reflected in the stories he shares (often about his life). Tests are not designed for 'book-smart'. If you show up, listen to what is said, and go through the practice exam it will be an easy A grade. -From a guy who usually struggles in school.
I love Bro Wilson. You have to find the religion professor that works for you & for me this was Wilson. I've taken both NT & BM from him. He doesn't give a ton of work, but you HAVE to pay attention in class. You can't tune out in class & try to make it up later. Some questions on the tests can be specific, so jot down what you hear in class.
He's a great guy, with funny stories, but I wasn't a fan of his teaching style. Tests are very much based on what he talks about in class (so don't miss!). He often ran overtime by a minute or so, and he had to take questions off of the study guide when he didn't get to cover them. He happily curves tests if the class performs low, which is nice.
Bro. Wilson is an amazing religion professor! (one of my favorite professors at BYU) I took him two semesters in a row and his lectures are the best. His class is not hard-short papers and tests that follow the study guides-and he is funny and very understanding. Definitely a great choice for religion!
I think Brother Wilson is a great guy. I really liked him as a person, and I can tell he cares about his students. But honestly, I wanted more out of my religion course. His lectures were pretty boring. His knowledge about the Book of Mormon is undeniable, but I would really advise a different professor.
Brother Wilson is great. I had him for both parts 1 & 2 of The Book of Mormon, & I enjoyed both classes. He cares about his students & their learning, & wants to give them all the chances possible to be successful. Tests usually aren't too hard (there's only been 1 tricky one, which he later curved) as long as you pay close attention & take notes.
Brother Wilson is great. I had him for both parts 1 & 2 of The Book of Mormon, & I enjoyed both classes. Brother Wilson is the kindest human I have ever met. He wants his assignments to be useful and applicable to you and your testimony. Take them seriously and they will bless your life. I took three of Brother Wilson's religion classes. He invited all of his sections over to pick apples in his backyard. BEST RELIGION PROFESSOR EVER.
He is a great guy, I loved his class. His tests were very short (no longer than 30 min in the testing center). Like any other religion class, it is very important to go to class and take good notes. I recommend him
REALLY nice guy. Tells great stories. His writing assignments are pretty straight forward, and most of all, they helped me think about my relationship with Christ. However, his tests were based on the "gospel of Wilson" rather than what was actually in the readings. Most of the test questions are based on things discussed in class, so don't miss.
Brother Wilson is an amazing professor. He is spiritually uplifting and his lectures are fabulous. I felt the spirit every day in his class and always walked away with something to ponder on. His papers are wonderful opportunities to dig deep and write down the way you feel. He is kind and caring and very willing to help his students succeed.
Brother Wilson is a fantastic teacher and mentor. His lectures are a great blend of doctrine, personal experience, and personal application. The student is his focus, and makes real effort to help you personally. He is flexible on reading assignments, as long as you're actually reading. Hands down my favorite teacher this semester. Highly Recommend
Brother Wilson is a super cool guy with GREAT stories to tell, and boy does he love telling them. He has an insane knowledge of the ins and outs of the gospel. However, lectures often got off topic and ran a couple minutes after the bell. He gives out helpful study guides for tests and is super understanding when it comes to the reading and papers.
Brother Wilson is an awesome professor with a million great stories up his sleeve. Interesting lectures but tends to go a couple minutes past the bell. Tests are hard if you don't make it to class because the test material is what Brother Wilson thinks and teaches in class rather than just straight out of course material.
He's a really good teacher, and only makes his tests off things that are discussed in class so show up to class! Pop quizzes are also given in class and can't be retaken so don't skip. The reading is a little on the heavy side and you are graded on if you read every day or not, so you can't read your assignment all in one day, you gotta read daily.
Pro. Wilson was an amazing teacher for this New Testament Class. He cares so much about his students. He really wants his students to feel loved, actually learn the material for personal gain and not just to past test and he is graceful.
Brother Wilson is awesome! He knows so much about the Book of Mormon and I found his lectures really interesting. I felt the Spirit a lot in his class and his tests were very reasonable as long as you study and read the chapters assigned.
Stupid guy that has easy midterms but then a ridiculous final that was so damn specific and about things that don't even matter when it comes to the gospel.
Brother Wilson was a sweet, sweet guy. He had so many funny stories that made class so entertaining. He hardly ever got through a hole lecture though and often went past the bell. The tests only covered what we talked about in class, so his lectures didn't bother me. There are 6 papers, but he grades them way easy. Quizzes often.
I've taken 211, 121, and 122 from Wilson. I love him and his classes. His quizzes aren't too bad. He'll give you a study guide for all of his tests that closely resemble the test. All the other assignments are super simple - as long as you turn them in - 100. Yes, he goes past the bell, but its because he's telling you an emotional story. Love him
Brother Wilson is amazing I have loved my semester in his class. He is so spiritual and has such a strong testimony. His assignment and tests are easy and you can meet with him after to earn a few points back. That being said, the final was surprisingly hard and I ended up with an A-
Bro. Wilson is the best teacher I've ever had. He remembers every student he's ever had (a lot). He cares. He loves the gospel. He brings the spirit. He makes me excited to learn more about the New Testament. Furthermore, he encourages us to live the gospel besides just learning about it.
I really enjoyed New Testament with Bro. Wilson. He loves the New Testament so much and does a pretty good job of helping you develop the same love for it. His tests and quizzes are based off of the "gospel according to Bro. Wilson" but most religion professors at BYU are like that. Very little outside work, easy A.
Professor Wilson is a great teacher and shows passion about what teaches. He is humble and open to your questions that you may have. He likes to work with you and help with your grade. It requires a lot of notes for tests but the class is fun to be part of! Every class is understandable and spiritual. I'm deaf so he works well with anyone.
Great professor. He loves to teach and is super excited about the gospel. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I highly recommend Brother Wilson :)
I also took Religion 121A with Wilson and I enjoyed both classes. His lectures are great and his assignments are not difficult. Some of his test questions are poorly written but if you talk to him about them he usually will give you points back as long as you show that you understand the topics.
Bro. Wilson is a great guy and has wonderful lectures. His tests, on the other hand, are very focused on his opinion and very specific to what he teaches. As long as you work on the study guides and go to class, you'll be fine. A couple short papers throughout the semester, but this class was enjoyable and an easy A.
Brother Wilson is a solid guy. Really enjoyed parts of his class. He gets distracted easily and isn't clear about what we should be taking notes on. Study guides are no help to study for the test. Classes are okay but not fantastic. Tests are terrible unless you have the entire BOM memorized verse for verse.
Genuinely cares about his students. Nice man. Pop quizzes just about every other week. The essays are really easy- your feelings and personal experiences. The tests cover extremely specific information, although he does provide you with a study guide. If you have the entire Bible memorized it will be an easy A for you!
I love Dr Wilson! He is SUCH a great religion teacher. I loved his class. He really known his stuff well, but makes it all so easy to understand. He is a really easy grader. Small assignments outside of class and a few quizzes in class.
Dr. Wilson is by far my favorite religion teacher. He is so generous with points that you stop stressing about your grades after the first class. I love his lectures, they will actually keep you interested. Learned so much from his New Testament class and wish I could take him for all my religion classes! This guy is the man!
Bro Wilson is funny and his lectures are entertaining but there is a quiz every class, a ton of reading, and his tests are ridiculous. Having the entire NT memorized isn't enough, you have to take word for word notes on his lectures and he's super weird about not letting you post the study guide online.
Don't listen to anybody else's negative comments, Brother Wilson is unreal. He is so relaxed when it comes to turning in assignments. Of course he wants you to turn them in on time, but if you don't he always accepts them. I loved him mostly because he just cares that you leave the class with a deeper love for the New Testament. One of my favorites
Bro. Wilson is great. He cares about his students' success and is more than willing to work with you. He has interesting stories and the Spirit was strong during class. Attendance and daily reading are graded. Gives occasional papers, but they're easy. If you take good notes, you will do well on the exams.
He knows a lot about what he's teaching, but he gets easily distracted. The pop quizzes can be really difficult because a question will often come from some random quote out of 30 in recent lectures. There is a lot of reading but that's understandable. Occasionally a class will slip into story time and it can be really hard to pay attention.
I love Brother Wilson! He is a very genuine person who cares for his students and their needs. He has a desire for his students to succeed and will help you if you go to him. I didn't always do the readings and therefor was just short of an A, but if you do the assigned readings then it is not hard to do well.
His entire structure for teaching is wack. He will trail off during all of class time, then blaze through his power point notes in like half a second at the end and expect you to be an expert on what he "just covered", then test you on all of it. Waste of mandatory class time. Plus tests are way too specific on super small things that don't matter.
Bro Wilson is loving and has some interesting lectures, but his exams are insane. He gets distracted for half the class and then rushes through the slides. Exam questions were often very hard and very specific. You also have to read A LOT between the assigned readings and the supplemental text. I love Bro Wilson, but wouldn't take him again.
Bro Wilson is one of my favorite teachers at BYU because he focuses on the importance of the BoM instead of the little details. He is extremely reasonable and would remove any questions from the tests if the topics were not discussed in class. Helpful study guides, few and simple assignments, and amazing lectures that grew my testimony.
Knows a ton about the New Testament. Gives specific study guides that are just like the tests (if you memorize them, you're good to go). Grades papers very graciously. Sweet sweet man.
He is the coolest guy. He really loves what he does and loves his students. You need to read daily and attendance is for credit. He does a few pop quizzes, but they are not too difficult. He gives you a study guide which is tough to fill out, but if you do the tests are pretty easy and online.
I love this guy. He is my favorite BYU professor. He remembered me after my mission and where I even went. He truly cares and wants you to succeed. I loved the class and felt spiritually edified after each one. If you read the stuff and do the study guides, you will do well. He is seriously the sweetest man alive and makes you feel so special.
Very sweet guy but often gets off topic and runs over time to go over all the information that is on the test. Also, be aware that you'll have to take pop quizzes which can be pretty tough so always be prepared.
Brother Wilson is honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met. He really knows what he is talking about and makes the New Testament come alive. You can tell that he is passionate about the scriptures and really cares about his students. He ends class with the best stories that make you think about the scriptures in a new and relatable way!
Brother Wilson is so kind. His class is pretty easy, if you do your best on the assignments you'll get 100% on them, so it's up to the quizzes and the exams. If you just do the reading beforehand and study your notes for a couple minutes before class you'll get 100% on the quizzes. I definitely learned a lot, and felt so spiritually strengthened!
He is a pretty typical religion professor. Kind of just teaches his own ideas rather than doctrine. But his assignments are all pretty easy mostly just quick busy work. My biggest complaint about this class is the Exams. In class, he goes off topic a lot and is hard to follow. But his exams are very specific
Exams are the hardest part honestly, he's like any other religion professor here and mainly tests based on his own personal views because apparently learning about the New Testament alone isn't good enough
He's a great religion professor and really cares about the subject. He gives amazing insights and has spiritual lectures. His class is a bit tough, with pop quizzes throughout the semester, and his exams can be difficult but they're all online. Overall, he's a great professor and cares about his students
I loved Professor Wilson's lectures, but I felt that his tests were unbelievable difficult. However, if you miss a lot of points on tests, GO SEE HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS and then you will figure out how to proceed with the semester.
A caring professor, but his test are so difficult. His class slides are very messy and he test on things he says in class. He likes to go on a tangent sometimes so it is hard to follow whats important. Take it only if you are someone who can follow the class without slides and who knows the scriptures pretty well.
I love Brother Wilson. I took his New Testament class a while ago and since that time have had the opportunity to work with him in the office. He truly cares about each of his students and wants them to succeed. Yes, there is a bit of work, but as long as you read and go to class you will be fine. He will learn your name and love you.
2nd chances on exams!
Brother Wilson is an awesome guy and he seems to really care about his students. The only thing that is hard is the test include very random, specific things that he says in class so take really good notes and do all of your reading. He gets off track at the beginning and doesn't leave a lot of time left for the lesson. 8/10 would recommend.
He's a great teacher and makes lectures pretty interesting. No homework and a couple of papers that are fairly easy to get an A in. The only thing that can be difficult is his midterms and finals. They are online so in a way a lot more relaxed, but the questions can be fairly specific. However, I like him enough to continue taking him.
Absolutely amazing man! His tests were pretty difficult but he gives great study guides that basically show you what will be on the test. Just make sure to take really detailed notes in class or else you won't know how to answer the questions on the study guides. Very approachable and easy to talk to.
Really sweet guy! Tests are on LS which was nice. Study guides are really specific, he even removes questions from the test that he didn't cover well enough in class. His lecture slides can be confusing, so take detailed notes on what he says, because you won't be able to find it again later. 10-15 BoM study required every day.
HIS TESTS ARE THE TOUGHEST TESTS I HAVE EVER SEEN. The only good thing is all the tests are on learning suite. Nice guy though. Mostly tests on his opinion.
As a non member at BYU, I highly recommend taking Brother Wilson's Book of Mormon class! He is willing to help you and wants you to succeed. He is willing to meet anytime outside of class. I highly recommend him!
Brother Wilson is a great religion teacher! Don't underestimate his tests, but if you do the study guide they are an easy A. You feel the spirit in class, and he has great jokes, but interestingly when you listen to his lecture recordings from 2017 he makes the same jokes. Not that I'm complaining; I still laughed at them on the second round.
Great professor. You will learn a lot. Hard tests, but there is a study guide, while time intensive, will help a lot in taking the test and understanding all the concepts. He frequently does pop quizzes on what you were supposed to read the night before, which is not unmanageable. My main advice is to take notes on the readings and lectures!
He's a really sweet professor and knows his BoM. The only thing was that we were behind most of the time and he would get sidetracked. But other than that, really easy religion class. We only had about 6 papers throughout the semester that are about a page long. The midterm and final are closed-book but are online, so no waiting in a line.
Keith Wilson is one of my favourite professors. I only take ancient scripture classes from him, and would take all my religion credits through him if I could. He will make great effort to learn your name and get to know you, and truly cares. He is easily accessible and he wants it to be easy to get an A. I can't recommend him enough.
He's a really nice guy who cares about his students. You're supposed to read from the Book of Mormon and the student manual for every class. Sometimes he does quizzes, and they're pretty specific, so don't just skim the chapter. He passes around a sheet everyday to mark off reading and attendance. Not to hard though, as long as you do what he says.
He knows his stuff, but he expects us to put as much energy into our religion class as a math or english class, sometimes more. If you have a loaded semester and need an easy religion class, don't go to this guy. However, if you've got the time and energy necessary, go for it.
Bro Wilson definitely knows his stuff! He is a NT scholar, and loves to share his knowledge. He is a very sweet man who cares about knowing each of his students personally. His study guides are insanely long, and the tests count for the majority of your grade. The papers he assigns are low-key and really just like journal entries.
This class was way harder than needed. Brother Wilson is very kind and willing to listen. However, the tests were very hard and were all his own opinion. There are also pop quizzes so you can never miss class. If you miss one class, your grade will go down, quiz or not. I got my worst grade in this class and do not recommend taking it.
I can't recommend Brother Wilson highly enough! He will work with you on EVERYTHING and always has time for his students, whom he cares about very deeply. This is the second class of his that I've taken, and it's easy to get an A once you figure out how to effectively study for his tests. There is a wonderful spirit present during his lectures!
Bro Wilson is one of my absolute favorite teachers at BYU. He is so funny and absolutely loves the gospel, his job, and his students. He makes it easy to do well in his class, and it is clear that he is more interested in his students coming to learn and love the gospel as he does than being a nitpicky grader. A+++ teacher and guy.
Prof. Wilson is one of the sweetest professors I've met and he really cares about each of his students. That being said, he is VERY easily side tracked and oftentimes only a few of minutes are actually spent covering material for the lesson which can be frustrating. The material on tests is kind of random, but do the study guide and you'll be fine.
I love Brother Woodfield! He cares about his students but more importantly, his class is very easy. All of his exam q's are on the study guide and he is very passionate and engaging. 10/10 would take again.
Brother Wilson is awesome! His lectures might not be super concise, but they are very interesting and engaging. He actually cares about you and if you go in wanting to learn and grow, you will leave edified and uplifted after every lecture! The 2 midterms (major grades) are not hard if you get a few friends and go over the study guide together.
He is a great guy but talks WAY TO MUCH! He spent 30 minutes of the class on the 'what is coming up' and the 10 minutes completing the lesson from the week before and finishing the last few minutes of class rushing through the actual lesson. The tests were awful and a lot of the stuff we never went over.
If you're looking for a religion class wanting to be edified and uplifted, Bro. Wilson's the man. He does sidetrack a bit and get carried away sometimes with telling stories, but they were very spiritual and heartfelt that I didn't even mind. Genuinely cares about his students. Do your readings and assignments and take good notes in class, easy A.
Bro Wilson is amazing!! He gives great lectures and his class is easy. He does class prep quizzes so just by reading and showing up and you will get an A. He gives study guides for the exams which is super helpful.
Such a good guy.
He is one of my absolute favorite professors. He cares about each student so much and hes a wonderful teacher! The spirit is very present in each lesson and his testimony is so strong. As long as you do all the work, youll do just fine in his class! 100% recommend!
He is just amazing. I took a blended version of his class because of corona, and he still managed to make it enlightening and fun. I seriously recommend him! The tests aren't too hard, just make sure you do the study guide. If you can take a class from Brother Wilson, take it!
Bother Wilson loves the scriptures and will help you gain new insights into the saviors life. He cares and loves about each of his students. loved his commitment to seeing and teaching his students.
Professor Wilson was great! He always gave good insights in class and you could tell he cares about his students and what he teaches. One thing I really appreciated is that he understood this is only a 2 credit class and so he kept the workload at the level of a 2 credit class. There is a bit of reading and some short essays, but they aren't bad.
Professor Wilson is pretty knowledgable. I took the class blended. I didn't like the zoom meetings, but the in person lectures were better. All of the answers to the test are from his lectures, so make sure to pay attention. I would only take it again if it were in-person because it was boring over zoom.
Brother Wilson was a good teacher, but not my style. He writes all the tests and study guides over again each semester, so things that weren't covered in class aren't on tests, which is nice. That being said, the tests are wicked difficult. You have to know specific quotes and things he said in lecture, or else. You've got to study the study guides
Prof Wilson is a super sweet guy, and he has some really funny moments. If you're looking for a teacher who will help you learn more about the gospel without piling on the stress, take Wilson! Tests sometimes were tricky because certain questions didn't always make a ton of sense, but do the study guides and you'll be just fine.
Amazing professor and one of the greater religion classes I have taken at BYU if not the greatest. He is so loving and genuine it makes class super easy to attend. The class is focused on you getting better and learning which makes it no so dependent on writing assignments and studying. If you read the chapters of the BOM, you'll do amazing
Brother Wilson is a great enthusiastic teacher, that believes that lecture is very important when it comes to religion classes. There is some reading from books other than the bible, but those other books help you better understand the context of Jesus's life. Brother Wilson is a really easy grader as long as you put your honest thoughts into it.
Brother Wilson, while an enthusiastic man who cares about the gospel, really should not be teaching a religion class because he teaches outdated and offensive beliefs as doctrine. While he may just be the product of another time, you can't just disregard his comments either because you need to pay attention to the lecture if you want to pass.
Brother Wilson is such a spiritual teacher. In my opinion he perfectly balances scholarly study with spiritual learning. His tests match the study guide almost completely so takes good notes at that and you will do just fine.
Bro. Wilson is a fantastic teacher who has really studied the New Testament and knows so much and explains real gems I never could have imagined. I would definitely recommend him for your New Testament class. Show up ready to learn and he will not disappoint you!
I just wasn't a fan of some of the things he said. Plus I think it was just me, but I struggled on his tests a lot. I'd spend hours filling out the study guide (you can't use it on tests), then spend hours studying, and then not do great on the tests. Worst grade this semester so I wouldn't say easy A, but most people manage to do it.
Great professor, took the time to learn every students name. Gave us all his phone number to call or text him with any questions about grades or just questions in general. Assignments and essays were all based off of our feelings and thoughts of material and not based on answers he was looking for. Great class and would definitely recommend.
Brother Wilson's class included multiple assignments that were fairly easy to do. I never felt overwhelmed by his class, and he really tries to get to know his students. His exams change based on what he was able to teach each semester, and he lets you know if something from the study guide won't be on the test, which was super helpful.
If you show up to class and do the study guide he gives out before the test, it's pretty much impossible to not get an A. Listen to the tips he gives before the finals (they are comprehensive so don't forget to study the whole course of material). I took him for BOM as well as NT, but he was so enthusiastic about NT that you had to love it.
Bro. Wilson is SUPER kind and caring. However, there are issues the pacing of the class. Majority of the class is spent going over upcoming assignments and finishing the previous lesson. Only the last few minutes of class are on the material for the day which is super frustrating. It always feels rushed and on top of that, we always end late.
Actually one of the more difficult religion professors I've taken at BYU. His class is reading heavy, and his exams are a combination of a few of the aspects of the class. He clearly cares for his students, and loves teaching, but it's still a more difficult class than expected.
I love Brother Wilson! He is such a sweetheart and sincerely cares for his students. This was a super light Book of Mormon class, not stressful at all. I didn't give a 5 because we didn't always get through material in class, but the tests aren't difficult and the writing assignments are easy. If you're a freshman at BYU, take it!
This class was really great, but the readings were definitely really long. It took a lot of time to complete those and the study guides. He knows the New Testament and has such a passion for it. His lectures were sometimes all over the place but I learned a ton!
Keith was the best! He was my first religion professor at BYU. His class was super easy and all the test were online. The majority of grade comes from attendance but his lectures were hilarious and he was super funny! I would totally take him again!
Lectures were super disorganized and extremely rushed. We always ran late because he felt the need to end with an "inspirational" story. He also showed some rather graphic photos for topics such as crucifixion, slaughtered paschal lambs, and leprosy with no prior warning. Whenever he asked questions, he was only fishing for his "correct answer.
I loved having Brother Wilson as a teacher. He gives great, well-thought-out lessons that are very spiritual. This class is not very assignment heavy and participation definitely determines your grade. Brother Wilson also has a great sense of humor and this class is a great addition to your day.
Keith is such a great professor, and he genuinely cares about his students. All the assignments are pretty easy, and tests are exactly what the study guide goes over. His class is so enjoyable and he tells a lot of funny stories. Take from him!
Brother Wilson is so passionate about this class and it really shows. His exams are very easy if you show up to class and do the study guide. You have daily class preparation quizzes that are easy points if you do all you need to! He tells amazing stories and is a really great teacher. He cares about each student and wants them to learn and grow.
The in class lectures are okay. Didn't really feel the spirit. Hardest tests I've ever fudging taken in my life though. Ridiculous. No matter how long I spent on the study guide I feel like it wan't helpful aside from a few hyper-specific questions. Never figured out what was important to take notes on and he doesn't give any helpful hints either.
Awesome guy and pretty good class. Every assignment is "do it and get 100" except for the tests. Tests are very specific and while the study guide helps, he does like his trick questions and whatnot. Tests in all are worth about 50% of your grade so you pretty much have to do well on those to get an A. No Extra Credit. Very nice man though.
Brother Wilson loves his students! He genuinely cares and wants each one to succeed, if they put in the work. Make sure you go to class because most of the lecture is on the test. Other than that, it's a really easy class to get an A in. I loved having Brother Wilson as my professor!
He is pretty nice and funny at times, but you need to make sure your take really good notes because the study guides took me over 3 hours to do... But once you've filled out the study guide pretty well, you're set for the test. Just pay attention to the lectures and power point slides. Also, keep in mind he doesn't always finish the lecture..
I loved this class. You get points for going to class and just doing your reading. You have a few small papers but they are basically just journals and graded for participation. The tests are also really easy, based on what was covered in class so take notes so you can fill out the study guide. The test is really similar to the study guide.
TAKE THIS CLASS from brother Wilson!!! His lectures are AMAZING if you pay attention and he is so kind to his students. He memorizes his students names and is so considerate!! You can even get back points for your exams if you meet with him and explain why you missed the question. Best religious professor I have ever taken at BYU. 10/10 recommend!!
Brother Wilson has some pretty stringent class criteria. There are 8 2-page papers due, attendance is mandatory and heavily weighted, the class average grade is shifted to fit a curve, and your grade is impacted by the honor code (not shaving every day, shorts that are too short, etc). Don't take if you are looking for a chill professor.
Professor Wilson is amazing! I've never had a more caring professor. All of his assignments are meaningful and he grades really easy. He gives tough tests but he also gives a study guide with all the questions so you can prep for them. I loved his class and was able to develop a personal relationship with him. BIG FAN
Interesting class, but unnecessarily hard. For a general religion class it shouldn't be as difficult as it its. Don't take as a freshman either, you won't be ready. Overall he was a good guy and made class interesting, but the difficulty of the exams wasn't worth it.
Interesting class but quite difficult. Use tools like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook to stay on top of the material. Worth taking but beware the challenging exams.
