read the book and skip the class - not very interesting

Class was hardly related to geography. He uses the class to fofill his need to spew geopolitical banter and nothing rarely gets done. 80% of the class was movies.
we want to learn geography, not movie. 11 weeks of school, almost 10 weeks with movies. Boring!
one of the worst teacher i ve had. not interested in teaching comes to class like they are pushing him from a cliff. we spend about 80% of the class on chating about other stuff and the other 20% few map projects. boring not recomended speaks monotone
Keith talked mostly about the conditions in Mexico. I learned alot about the culture there and found the information shocking, but made me more aware of the world I live in. Was easy as long as you listen in class.

Absolutely phenomenal. Best class I've ever had. Demands extensive documentation and always provides primary sources. Excellent course. Highly recommended if you want to think critically.
He teaches about the reality in which peasants exist, and talks heavily about US foreign policy and neoliberalism. This hardly makes him "anti-American." I want to take all of his classes.
Just do the urban project and listen in class and you'll be fine.

Unapproachable. Does nothing but play movies and skips out of the room during them. Too concerned with pushing his own agenda. Stares out the window during lectures. Unless you're trying to justify the same views, this is not the class for you.
I liked the class. If you need help just ask, he's understanding. This class will really broaden your knowledge about the world. Just go to class everyday listen and document!

This is college - read the damn texts so you can participate in class. He shouldn't have to tell you each page to read. Deserves all the accolades for the tremendous work he does.
The worst class by far! It made to cry to think I would have to sit through lecture everyday! He hates America! Had you write insane papers without ever teaching you anything. However, he never read the papers and just gave you an A.
he very clear on what he teaches and gives us knowlege of what's happening other than what we hear on regular television, he tries to bring you all the views about the problems we face today and why we are in such situation.
If you taking his class understand that you learn more about geo politics and econ rather than culture and geography in the true sense. Has long lectures and shows alot of movies, still is very easy and talks about alot of things you have ever hear. At times his class can get very interesting.
Awsome teacher! He was great, class was very interesting. He was aproachable when you needed help. He also doesnt give NE midterm or final tests, just quizes on states and capitols of countries, also he asigns a few big papers that he gives everyone A's on. EZ "A" class if u show up and payattention
Has really interesting topics, Based on Facts and evidence not opinion. u can most likely get an A in his class. But the class is too long and u might get bored every once in a while. So far he is above average! B++

Easiest class ever! Books are only used for take home tests, get together with someone from class so you don't have to buy the books. Very left wing teacher but he should be because is is a humanitarianist. Very nice and caring man, unless you are talking about our government, but they deserve it!
I LOVED this teacher. He's helpful and friendly. He's very clear with his expectations and the class is pretty easy. Do the work (there isn't a lot at all) and you'll get an A no problem. A+
I agree w/ all his views (being a fellow progressive), but he needs to give a LOT more structure to his class; hard to stay organized. (And no, he doesn't hate America - he hates what America's leaders have done and are doing!)
I would recommend this teacher if u like long lecutures. he never assigned homework. only had like 3 or 4 papers it is interesting to learn about the women of juarez. he is so passionate about what he is teaching more than acutally explaining the topic.

EYE OPENING is what describes him best. Changed my world view. He has changed many of my friends lives too. I'd complain about how he structures his class though, its a bit confusing.
You would think Geography would include a map or two. Not in this class. Long Lectures. Not clear on where the class is going. He doesn't follow the syllabus very well either. Be careful of getting your work back, too. He is very unorganized.
This guy is obviously very passionate, but he allows too many personal political views into the class. He is supposed to be teaching Geography, not Global Politics. If you want a good Geography class, take someone else, this guy just uses the classroom to preach his political beliefs.
Terrible teacher who used the class as a means to spout his political beliefs. Not an introduction course, more like a specialized study of whatever he feels like lecturing about.
Professor Yearman isnt a teacher you want to take if you arent willing to do a bit of reading and actually do homework. He is a great teacher, and eventhough some of his comments about world issues are negative, he backs up his ideas with artcles and goverment documents. He has awesome lectures!!!

Based on some past reviews, I think I've learned the key: Spoon-feed students, don't expect them to think, don't expect them to read, and don't expect them to dedicate any time to your class and you will get good reviews.
If you are expecting Geography, think again. This class is not Geography. But the good thing is that he will keep your attention the whole time, never a dull moment. He gets everyone worked up into discussions which I think is great.But, if you have any good thoughts on the government, this is not the class for you. Total anti-government class!
This class is all documents, he expects you to be as obssessed with them as he is, if you are not you don't get a good grade. He uses this class as a way to spout his political views, this is not geography, it should be renamed Yearman's Conspiracies. I would not recomment this class to anyone who is sane!

Class is different than any other I've taken. Well informed, puts responsibility on students. Also, utilizes Financial Times and Wall Street Journal for significant course component.

Keith Yearman is a nice guy, needs to improve his teaching technique. Obsessed with conspiracies and F.O.I.A. Hung up on Juarez,Mexico. Class material rarely pertained to Geography.Harldy any class discussions,and too many handouts.For the most part Keith Yearman is a good teacher with good intentions towards his students.

This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had, he loves mexico and hates the U.S. He is not even interested in his own material because he falls asleep during the pointless movies he makes us watch, which is about everyday. He Sucks and thats all there is to say about that... Viva los mexicos
This guy is an easy teacher, but extremely anti-American. He is a hardcore Socialist who pushes his agenda all for the class. All he does is talk about the evils of Capitalism and free markets. All of our papers were all about insulting America and Capitalism. Stay away.

Just come to every class, watch videos on latin america politics and US corruption, take an agreeing stance in papers, and you can get an A. The book is never used in class, but you still have to do homework (all due at once at the end of the semester).
Great teacher, although once was enough with his class. I would not signup for anymore of his classes that he teaches. They are very similar in style, where your watching movies and going over handouts. I was in his class during spring of 2005. Assignments included scantron multiple choice take home exams, 1 research paper, 1 small paper and some busy work. A++
He hates the US, is obsessed with Juarez, shows videos at least once a week because he's too lazy to teach, doesn't act like he wants to be there, is too busy worrying about his other work than this class, assigns homework/map quizzes/tests/projects at the last possible minute, but he gets one good point in my book for cancelling the final exam.
He deserves a medal for having this ridiculous older woman student in his class. She constantly complained about work in another class yet ripped into Prof. Yearman. He's too good for that treatment. I'm looking to transfer to NIU and he saw to it that my 200 level Latin America will transfer as their 300-level. Awesome.

I loved this class and the teacher. He inspired me with his enthusiasm and gave students a lot of guidance. Always concerned about students' understanding of material. Very interesting topics chosen for study. I just loved his class and he helped me decide to become a Geography major. Take him. You will realize how little you knew before his class.
I think he is a fun teacher. He does use a lot more videos in his class than... say... the typical professor, however, it gives you a different insight to what he is talking about. He does give daily lectures and few homework assignments. Attendance is part of grade. Overall, very interesting class. I would take another class of his.
VERY biased. Course is a negative look at Western-world institutions and how they make victims of people. Never learn the constructive aspects of these institutions, though they obviously exist. He simply ignores them. Several videos shown that enhance political message, not course material. Also very poor time management and grading system.
Anyone who claims his classroom encourages critical thinking needs to get their head checked. His lectures are completely biased and the other side of the argument is NEVER EVER presented. How is that critical thinking? He indoctrinates without justification. If you're looking to be fed anti-Western propaganda, take his class. If not, don't.

Great Teacher! He was very informative, and yes at times he seemed a little biased, but he was honest and I learned a lot in his class. As long as you do all the work and blackboard and study for the tests you'll do fine. I just wish he would LIGHTEN UP a little when it came to joking around with the class! C'mon prof relax n smile once in a while

Keith's class can be boring to certian people. But personally it was interesting. Kind of weird he doesn't realy give eye contact. He uses a special COD version book for class. But really easy class. tests are taken on blackboard and he gives lots of extra credit. and he had some interesting projects as well.
I am amazed by how incredibly biased he is. It is a fairly easy class but I couldn't help but roll my eyes during the lectures. I find it fascinating on how EVERY SINGLE LECTURE is in a completely negative spin on a particular topic. And oh boy, he sure loves talking about Mexico and Central American Countries; That is 95% of the class right there.
he tells u on the 1st day of class that this is more of a human geog class. class was a bit dry but very easy; you'll have simple projects (taking pics of places, and writing about them). final and midterm is based on questions he posts on blackboard. he is liberal and does complain in his lectures a lot, but thats not so bad. he taught us a lot.
Mr Yearman is extremely intelligent and a good teacher. His class is fascinating and his topics are eye opening. His class is moderately difficult, but once again if you do the work you should be fine.
Prof. Yearman is a very good teacher; his lectures are very, very interesting. He does give alot of homework, but if you do it and study for the map tests you can easily get an A.
The class is really enjoyed and interesting, it is not hard at all as long as you study for his map tests and do the homework which is mostly just reading the chapters of the book and answering questions. You will learn a lot, it is guaranteed.
This professor is the laziest I have ever had. I am not convinced he ever actually graded anything himself (computer graded). Absolutely NOTHING that he taught in class was tested on. Everything he tests is out book reading. I only showed up is because he grades on it. In class is his own liberally biased agenda. Like it or not, he doesnt hide this
dont listen to others he's an easy teacher! if geog. is something you dont rly care about, take him! he has one easy project, 2 map tests, and a midterm and final which is STRAIGHT from the homework. Once u finish ur homework (which is posted online), u get the grade right away! he tried to pass everyone, so he'll give u lots of extra credit too!

This teacher was terriable, all he talked about was where he has traveled and how to get cheap tickets online. I was there to learn about Eastern Geography not stuff that I could care less about. He wasn't helpful at all, and was so rude! How he is a teacher is beyond me! ( make sure you have all requirements for final or he will give you an "F")
Easy teacher, however, he does not seem to grade anything or care about the class. Had us buy 2 books, only used one. All assignments are reading questions done online, basically an online class in the classroom. Projects are easy and a lot of outside travel is required for the class. Says he will grade stuff, but things never get graded.

For this class, do your homework, there is not much. He tested out online questions on us through blackboard, but then gave that up at least for my semester. Three map tests, just memorize countries and capitals. He then gives a 144 pt assignment to take pictures of your town.No final if it doesnt affect your grade. Be a student and get an A.

He made homework due before he even posted the lectures online that you need to do said homework. Absolutely awful. NEVER replied to any of my emails. still got an A though haha sucker
Professor Yearman was once substituting at Wright College and I found his teaching interesting and pasionate.He was always well prepered for classes and I would rate his style of teaching as an extraordinary. He makes dry statistics meaningful by providing examples and bringing up his personal experiences.

Honestly if you are considering signing up for this class- DON'T!! It is pointless to show up.. his lectures are not based off anything!! He shows random power points that have nothing to do with the class. I have learned NOTHING. I really regret enrolling in this class. Save the money and take another teacher.

He's a fair grader. He makes sure everyone gets an A in the class and avoid handing out the final exam. Study for the tests and you'll be fine. The discussion boards are fair; just comment with a lot of information.

As most people have said, he rarely talks about anything the book covers or demands. His lectures could at best be considered "supplementary," and they are not tested on. I think he was picked on a lot when he was younger and raised by women. Seriously, I think I missed 25 points out of a thousand in that class. Easy A, but worthless class.
What he talked about in class had nothing at all to do with the textbooks, the syllabus or what the class was supposed to be about. He assigned way too many papers (8 total) which again were not related to anything discussed in class. If you handed anything in he graded easily but mostly I think so that he wouldn't actually have to read them
Do NOT take this class. Lectures are very boring and pointless. Had 2 assignments/papers entire semester that required you to go out and do hardcore research that was not available online (Hated taking a few days to drive out and do research!) Class had 30 students, but ended with 10 at the end of the semester. Easy A, but dreadful class.
First and foremost, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Took the online course, and it totally ruined online classes for me in general as well as the subject of geography which I now hate more than ever. Expected you to do boatloads of unnecessary work and thought it was a photography class. Wrote 2 papers which he didn't even read. Never taking him again.
Took Geography 1100 online class. Chapter/Lecture Questions; MidTerm; Final; and Photography assignment involving visiting (6) sites. Offers extra credit and is helpful if needed. Not a hard class. Pay special attention to information given on Haiti. My only complaint is that he does not adhere to any type of syllabus, and I'm a planner.
Dont Take This Class, profesor does not take attendance & assigns projects that are far away from dupage & cook. He leaves class early and doesnt post if there class on blackboard. All you do in class is take notes & watch videos. He had only 3 assignments for a 12week course dont bother going its all online and never used textbooks in class
I chose Cultural Geography class. I did not need it but I was always interested in different cultures etc. I thought I am going to learn a lot of things I did not know before. It is almost end of semester. I've learned NOTHING. Teacher does completely different things than a textbook. We take pictures, draw mental map of Chicago etc. AWFUL!
Very straight forward teacher. If you want to know about every problem the world has and how bad every place is then take his class. Not once will he talk about the good. Massacres, debt, and poverty are his favorite things to lecture about
So so so BORING. He just gets up there any rambles about (extremely irrelevant) things every day. Takes 20+ second pauses in sentences. Just such a terrible terrible teacher. I dread going to his class.
I literally have NO idea what this class is about after taking this class. No structure, no syllabus to follow, just waiting for him to update the blackboard (which is done wrong a majority of the time). Final project was a photography project that is to "get published." For geography? Really?

I cannot stress enough how much I struggled in this class. No clear timeline, no help, long terrible lectures. Criteria for assignments is ridiculously confusing. He never grades on time or puts notes online. Makes no sense at all. Said the book was vital but nothing pertains to it remotely. Please take my advice and avoid this professor.
This prof. doesn't actually teach, just talks about things COMPLETELY unrelated. Loves talking about himself and the first month he just talked about food EVERY DAY. I actually wanted to learn.. THANK GOD he was out for a while and had an amazing sub who I wish taught the class instead. As for assignments, 3. for 12 weeks. That's ALL my grade was.
If you want to learn about Geography don't take this class. He discusses the projects for the entire duration of the class. Even then you still won't know what or when to turn them in. And if you don't know anything about photography avoid this teacher.
This class does not really go over geography.. You just tend to do a couple of projects and papers that force you to go around the Illinois area. This is a GPA booster class.. Totally recomend taking it if you want an A. "You just need to do the papers and extra credit"
He's not super clear; however, it seems like that's because he's not super picky either. The final having you submit to actual newspapers is a bit odd, but overall no big deal. The class was strange but definitely fun. Overall, he was a very fair grader. I would definitely recommend him and love to take another one of his classes.
If it wasn't for the fact that there is no structure and that all your grades are dependent on the three projects he assigns at a random date. I would never have bothered going to the class all he does is ramble about places he has beenpictures he has taken. Not to mention that he speaks unbearably slowly.
If you're looking to be challenged at the honors level or learn about geography look for another professor. Lectures are slow and removed from the subject matter. More than half of the classes are used discussing how to print a poster for a project. At least I got honors credit for watching my fingernails grow.
Easy class, but you don't really learn as much about geography as one might expect. Several projects involved photography which did make it hands on and fun.
sure he can be nice but very boring class, and he is extremely monotone, and you cannot say one word in class, he gets super mad I couldn't handle it, good luck to anyone that takes him.
There was not a clear cut grading criteria where you knew the values of your work. He is direct and there was minimal communication, where every other online course I have done had interaction between teacher and student at the very least. Will have to re-take this class, which is no big deal. I do enjoy the program he utilizes, Mastering Geography
Not specific at all. He's very laid-back and easy going which is nice sometimes but other times it's very frustrating. He's all over the place with his assignments and projects. Doesn't really have a steady, organized schedule when it comes to posting to blackboard and giving updates.

Worst teacher I ever had. Doesn't explain anything in detail. I took his online class and twice he never responded to me about my final project. It's a blow off class and I honestly learned nothing. My final grade in the class was a 89.76 and he didn't even round it up to an A for me... Even after I did multipl extra credit assignments.

Took the online class. Class was an easy A for sure. Just follow the directions on BB and you'll do fine. A lot of photos to run around and take but otherwise very easy class. He gave a lot of extra credit and also gave everyone in the class an extra 50 points just because. The few email interactions I had with him were so so. Again easy A!
Online. Kind of easy to get a good grade but hard at the same time because of no direction for assignments. No guidelines and he'd say "I have no idea how i'll grade this". Lost my final and gave me an F then I emailed him that I turned it in already and he found it and changed it to a B. Very vague and is not clear on what he wants as work.
I emailed this teacher several times asking how to be more prepared for the timed quizzes and he replied saying he doesn't have any suggestions and just to read the chapters, he also spelled half of the words in his email wrong which made it very difficult to understand what he was trying to say. VERY UNHELPFUL.

Also, when asking him a question instead of replying with an answer, he just makes things even more confusing. He also goes on vacation a lot and is very hard to reach. He was vague about everything. Seemed like he never wasn't very prepared. No clear grading criteria, had no idea what he expected from us. He talked a lot but we were not graded on that. He was not very clear on what was expected and never gave feedback.
Hard because he gives NO Literally gives no feedback or instructions. Ignores emails. If you force him to respond, you'll get one word or one sentence at best. The absolute worst online professor ever. Cares WAY more about your ability to make videos than your knowledge of the course content. Teaches nothing, you pay for a site and book.
Gave assignments with no real structure, requirements or details. There were no rubrics or guidelines for anything. It often took at least 2 weeks to grade assignments, which he did harshly and he provided no feedback about why points were lost. Absolutely no teaching was done by him, he was more of a grader than an instructor.
The absolute WORST teacher I have had at COD. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT take any of his classes. No structure or timeline to assignments. Sends emails randomly giving details for assignments due within just a few days. No feedback on anything, barely helps when you ask, truly not a good teacher. I took his class online for Geography 1100. CoD is typically a very good school, and even the classes I've taken that are difficult, or instructors that were tough at least still cared about the job they did. Mr. Yearman was clearly checked-out and vague in any answers to emails, if you got one, and his syllabus didn't outline what all was weighted

If you want an easy A take his online course. It requires maybe 10 hours of work. I can't believe I had to pay for this course. It's a complete waste of money if you want to actually learn anything.
WIsh I went on this site prior to entering this class....I really enjoyed learning in this class, but his directions were very UNCLEAR and CONFUSING. He definitely expects a lot from you when he doesn't even give proper feedback.

He is the worst professor I ever had! his class is a waste of time & money. He doesn't teach anything at all. He only shows very poor quality photos of his trips around the world. U cannot ask him anything in class because he get furiuos. Homework is confusing & with no instructions, due to this he failed most of the class.
Doesnt respond to emails, gives lectures that have nothing to do with assignments. Literally had to basically teach myself to complete assignments. No point in taking notes because you wont need any of the information from lectures, has the most monotone voice so show up fully caffeinated if you want to be awake by the end of it.
Course graded on textbook reading and photo projects. Easy enough work, but all his lectures are barely relevant to the graded work and are poorly paced. Easy A, but easy to feel like wasted tuition. Take him for the grade, not the education.
very helpful and caring, this is a go at your own pace class, as long as you do the assignments by the due date you'll be fine. He's another hidden gem at cod, and I mean that honestly.
such an easy class, there was like 5 assignments thru the whole class. super easy and if you reach out to him, he will help you out.
This class was an easy A. honestly I learned nothing from his course, I can't even tell you what the class was about. really seems like the professor was clocked out and wanted to retire already. The syllabus was confusing and things were unorganized. But only 3 assignments in the whole course. Waste of money, but good for getting an A.
Easy A. All the assignments are to just go outside and take some pics and write about how they relate to the given topic. When i took the class over the summer he was in tanzania or something so he wasn't the most accessible teacher. He will look over your final project/writing and make sure if it good enough for an A or not.
If you are a geography nerd, then this class is not for you at all. He's one of those professors who thinks that you're only in his class for the credit and transfer. Pretty easy in my opinion.
