The class is easy but if you want a professor that is actually helpful , Dr. B is NOT it. She takes a week to respond to emails and cancels her office hours last minute, so there is no easy way to get in contact with her, which is unacceptable during the pandemic. When she does respond to emails, she is not helpful at all. I do not recommend.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Rude, arrogant, and mean are how I would describe her. Tests were extremely easy, but the class felt worthless with her awful teaching.
She is a great professor. Be ready to read chapters before lecture day. If you read the chapters and pay attention to her lectures you will certainly get an A. Good Luck.
Not very good at responding to questions or teaching lectures. When other students ask questions the answers are vague, condescending and make the student feel dumb for asking with her attitude.
Good feedback. Makes you learn concepts and is very caring
Very helpful and understanding. Amazing teacher
Amazing teacher . Love her class. Learnt a lot about current events in medical microbiology.
Great instructor. Lectures were during Covid, so it was a bit monotonous, but still enjoyed my time in the class. Very passionate about what she teaches, and wants to make sure you know the material. Only a few grades taken this semester, unfortunately.
Very helpful and understanding professor. Looking forward to taking another class with her again.
Her exams were super easy and we learned a lot about current events. I would definitely take her again, but she does take some time to reply so don't start on work at the last minute.
I have no problem with Dr. Biswas. She tends to just read the slides during lectures, which makes it difficult to keep focused, but I enjoy what we learn. She connects everything to relatable/recent topics to help better understand. And she also is easily accessible. Replies within an hour. I recommend. Also many easy assignments to boost grade.
I love her lectures and the discussions on Medical microbiology. Wish she was teaching a course in Summer , would have moved ahead in another class that I look forward to. Dr Biswas is also very understanding and a very easy person to talk to.
Go over the powerpoints she has as well as the third party software. She claims that the medical terminology will be used in entrance exams like the GRE. Theres like 0 medical terminology used in that exam lol.
Biswas was never specific about what she wanted from her students. She would go over the syllabus every class period and change something about it. She also changed out project days before it was due when a lot of the students had already completed most of it. She was never clear about her grading criteria, so I never knew what to do.
Dr Biswas, is very accommodating and a very helpful professor. class was asynchronous and a lot of the work had to be online textbook site. You have to keep up with the timeline of the homework, the chapter tests and your knowledge of A&P to truly understand the significance of med terminology in competitive exams! She was very helpful in office hr
Teacher is accommodating towards students and their needs , always referred you back to detailed syllabus and lecture notes on canvas. If you had a question or a doubt about a topic she is very accessible to answer questions. Even gave us extra two days to complete and submit the project. I loved this class and the professors teaching.
Approach the professor if you cannot understand concepts she will help you succeed and love the subject. Loved the class.
Dr. Biswas graded based on 4 tests and a project. Her lectures barely skimmed most material needed for these tests. She constantly changed our project as we went, and she often told us something in class that was completely different than the project description. She did not seem to understand what her project was over.
One of the best Professors Ive ever had ! She is genuinely interested in student learning for the sake of learning and not just grades. Had four tests , the study guide and lectures helped a lot. I had no problem with the project guidelines and expectations . Ask if you need help or clarification. Will take her class again in a heartbeat.
This was my second class with Biswas (also BYS300) She has a way of talking for 45 minutes and yet saying absolutely nothing. Her final paper never has clear guidelines (syllabus and what she says in class contradict each other). From previous experience she is an easy grader though. Just prepare to be confused on what she wants.
Superficially, she seems pretty rude and condescending, but if you take a chance to get to know her, you'll realize how nice of a person she actually is. That being said, I agree with what everyone said about grading and exams. She's a very very smart professor, but she hasn't figured out how to teach the material to undergraduate individuals yet.
Do not take this class. Reading the textbook won't help. She just doesn't know how to teach undergrad students. Talks about higher-level stuff that never appears on the exams. Changes exam structures at the last minute. One word - hilarious. Learned nothing from this class honestly.
Biswas is extremely unprofessional in the way that she communicates with students, and does not seem to care at all about what the student's need. The exams are nothing like the lectures or information covered in the textbook, and the format of every exam always changed.
Overall she was not a great instructor for learning, or testing. For studying she'd tell you to read the textbook, but majority of her test questions were from her powerpoint that had completely different or new information in it. I wouldn't recommend her to any of my friends. She tends to say one thing in class then another in an announcement.
Lectures are often cut short. You will have to supplement from the book. Mentions what will be on the exams but also often changes once she actually makes the exam. She was not very helpful when approached about exam questions that were incorrectly marked wrong. Was not willing to listen or offer explanations, but corrected the answer later.
I did not find her class very helpful. She just reads from the PowerPoint, and going to class is a waste of time. She is super nice and when I missed a quiz I emailed her and she gladly let me make it up. However, I don't think the powerpoints are very helpful for the test.
The strangest professor I've had. The class was impossibly easy, but we convinced her we were stupid because we weren't biology majors. She constantly has to feel like the most knowledgeable person in the room, and will often have lectures with no clear focus other than to teach random topics that come to mind. Just don't get on her bad side.
Caring, learnt a lot, challenges you to study
Caring Study hard and approach her if you need help The best lecturer in the Dept, learnt about everything related to infection, the microbes and diseases
Would take her class in a heartbeat
Loved the class !
She is tough but fair in her grading. She wants you to study learn and do better in class. Go and ask her for help if you are struggling in the class. You will be happy you earned your grade at tge end of the semester because you have actually learnt something in her class. My best teacher yet !!!
Detailed lectures which helps you learn about a lot about cell biology if you keep reading and study along.
Most interesting class , learn a lot about diseases and infection. Loved the professor and her teaching style , helped make sense in everyday life. A very kind and helpful professor
Loved the class discussions on infectious diseases
This was the only class in Biology that was detailed and made you learn. The teacher was very helpful making you learn in small parts which was on the quizzes. Loved the lectures.
My best teacher yet in the Biology Department. She is caring and very helpful.
Contrary to what some other students said , I found the class to be very useful, you have to attend the lectures and be ready to learn. She is really nice and very accommodating.
Really enjoyed the class lectures. She is awesome in explaining cellular biology. Learnt a lot in this class , more than any Biology class I have taken at UAH
I really loved the lectures, had gone in thinking it was a very hard class but the teacher really made me learn so much about cell biology.we had multiple quizzes and the exams were based of those. Will definitely take her again for another class
She is a teacher who loves teaching ,you can tell by the way she answers questions. Very helpful and caring teacher.
I learnt more from this class than any other class I have taken in the Biology Department at UAH. Thus includes BYS 119 and genetics. She is a knowledgeable awesome teacher. Will definitely take her in future.
Best Prof in the Department, learnt so much in this class. Read and go to class everyday and you will get an A
Dr. Biswas's lectures consist of her not preparing for her lectures, entering the classroom and not particularly talking about anything pertaining to the material set down by the textbooks or power point slides. Her quizzes are generated by google questions the are from varying sources and not expounded upon by her lectures. Very bad lecturer.
The content is difficult and sometimes her lectures don't cover everything on the tests, but if you put in effort she'll help you a lot. She really cares about her students and she'll make it possible to pass.
Dr. Biswas does not take attendance, but will notice when you aren't there. Be prepared for short test with long answer questions, except for the first test. She cares, but you have to show her that you do too.
Dr Biswas does not take attendance but will know if you are not there. Will make sure you know and study the basic course material for it to be helpful in your future biochemistry courses
Coming back to school after a long time, it was a pleasure having Dr Biswas as a teacher. She is passionate about teaching and microbiology and will make the class very interesting. You learn a lot about diseases and infections. Loved her and the class.
Awful made the whole class do a presentation because 2/50 had plagiarism on their written assignment. Changes the way we take quizzes and exams during the semester. Overall she COMPLICATES this course more for students.
awful. mean. could not be worse. she makes this class SOO hard when it doesn't have to be. tests are nothing like she says they will be. makes up random assignments that aren't on the syllabus every day. never gives a clear rubric. grades are based on her feelings. can't understand anything she says ever. and smiles as she ruins your day.
Scorched me and my study group, had multiple 5+ hour study sessions and still wasn't prepared for the test. Makes you use lockdown browser with webcam on in-class test even though its not mentioned in the syllabus. Basically a impossible amount of information to retain unless it's the only class you take.
Rude and unprofessional. Chastises students in front of the rest of the class for trivial manners like attendance. Spends ~10 minutes every period scolding the class for various things (e.g., one student cheating 2 months ago). Lectures are unprepared and irrelevant to tests, which almost completely consist of describing microbes. Do not recommend.
She is a very good teacher and wants you to know your topics covered. Helps with material needed by nursing majors especially if you want to be good in the field of your choice
Loved all the medical diseases we learnt in this course. Dr Biswas is very open to students approaching her if you want to study.Unlike some students who want to get by using study guides , I found Dr Biswas was really helpful with sharing and making us learn the material. I am an aspiring nurse and I loved her course.
Loved this professor , take her class if you want to learn about diseases infections and the way your body functions. An excellent course if you want to be a nurse.
I have had Dr Biswas in three courses and I loved how detailed she is and wants us to learn the material. She is the best teacher in the Department at UAH
I LOVED Dr. Biswas!! She was intimidating at first and seemed scary, but if you ask questions after class and let her see that you want to learn she's super sweet. She is tough on you, yet she is a lenient grader. 10/10 would recommend!!
I loved Dr Biswas! Once you approach her with questions after class she is really very helpful. Wants you to know the course material and is always available if you have questions. Loved her eagerness to teach and give you the knowledge you can use in life. She is the best teacher at UAH
Dr. Biswas is unorganized and, at times, came off as antagonistic. She is very knowledgeable about the subject material, but she does not really teach/draw exam material from the book at all. Over half of the exams were essay questions, and we did not get instruction on how to study. She speaks discouragingly and harshly, and gives no feedback.
Loved the course , the professor is awesome. Very knowledgeable, a very good teacher and enthusiastic. Learnt a lot from the class which can be used for a career in nursing.
Loved the course and the professor. She is exceptional and learnt a lot from her.
Don't do it .
She is an excellent teacher and you learn a lot in her classroom. You have to be interested in your chosen field of nursing to do well. Students who complain are usually ones who do not want to study or study the material. A few of us who are wanting to be nurses love Dr Biswas
The best teacher I have known at UAH who is passionate about her course.
She knows the material well but is not good at teaching it. If you take multiple of her classes at one she will like you more but be wary if not. She has a very thick accent so make sure english is your first language. Most of the grade relies on tests and she doesn't give clear criteria on what will be on the test. Recommend this as a solo course.
She really likes a certain group of students but if you aren't a nursing major I wouldn't rely on most of the reviews. She frowns upon students who need help with anything regarding the material and will call you out infront of the class and imply you aren't paying attention. The tests don't match the chapters unless you have another classes notes.
Professor Biswas is very difficult to understand at times. She speaks very quickly and with a thick accent that together make her hard to follow. There is a large amount of homework for the course that changes due date regularly, and often does not follow the syllabus. No late work is accepted. The labs are low level and boring.
The best professor taken at UAH
Dr Biswas is an excellent teacher, you have to be interested in learning microbiology and its role in nursing to appreciate the course. I loved it so much and decided to do research in microbiology in future studies. She is the best teacher and takes a lot of interest in student learning.
Avoid her at all costs. Idk how she has so many good reviews but I'm going out of my way to never take a class with her again. My therapist will be hearing about her.
I loved Dr Biswas and her teaching style. She makes sure that you know the material which you will find helpful in many other courses. Her syllabus is very organized so is her teaching, you have to keep up and want to study.
Best teacher for Medical Terminology
Best teacher I ever had. Students who do not want to study are the ones who complain! Do not listen to them , I took her for three courses and loved every one of them
Microbiology and anatomy and physiology are her strong points. Very easy to understand, knows the material like the back of her hand. Taking her class helped me with my TEAS and I cleared it the first time
Do your homework, attend lectures, ask questions in class , study and you will love Dr Biswas and her courses. Don't keep up with your reading and you will have complaints!
Very organized course with modules and assignments dates clearly mentioned on canvas. You have to keep up with your reading to do good in her course.
Very organized and disciplined. Knowledgeable and wants students to learn and gain their confidence about diseases and microbes in the world. You have to read, go through her power point slides and study at least three days in the week to keep up with the concepts taught in class! Loved the Professor and her teaching style.
If I could, I wouldn't even rate her 1 star. She doesn't teach the actual material in class and instead assigns hours of outside lectures with 70+ slides each, followed by quizzes. Class time feels pointless, and most learning is left to us. A complete waste of time and money. Please never take her if you don't want to waste your money.she is rude
Don't take her. If you just want to do self-study. She doesn't teach; she wants you to study for her own class with 800-something medical words outside of her class. In class, you just follow her lectures and work on a project that makes no sense. She says she cannot teach that many words, then what is she a professor for?
she cannto teach dont waste your money taking her.
Don't take her. By taking her, you are putting yourself, your mental health, and your grades in danger. Just don't risk your life. please pleasee.
Please don't take her and bet your GPA on it. She is rude and doesn't know how to teach. She just considers everyone dumb and she is too smart.
Dont take her.
I wish I could rate her 0. So much attitude.
Dont take her.attitude for no reason . cannot teach anything self learning.
Honestly, you would have to put effort in to fail this class. She sets you up for success. It's up to you what you do with it. I think she's a great professor and got scared away with all the bad reviews, but now I'm realizing those are from students who didn't want to study or put the effort in. Put the effort in and you'll do great.
Yes, she is an incredible professor. You have to be ready to read and earn ypir grade. I have taken her in three more courses, loved her teaching. Those who write about het attitude need to get into study mindset
Loved the class and the teacher and her understanding of the course material and willingness to help
An amazing easy class to take , it is hybrid so you attend class one day of the week, the remaining day you work on the online portion of the course material.
It is the best microbiology class taught by the best teacher who is very helpful and understanding. Most knowledgeable teacher in my career. I learnt a lot in this class.
She is very rude. And in medical terminology class, be prepared not to learn anything, just presentations she will make you do, and make you also ashamed for the whole class for small mistakes. And for medical terminology, she says do it in your own time, which the class is for medical terminology.
The students who write about not learning anything in this class are ones who are lazy about putting in time to do their responsibilities of studying on their own . They need to be spoon fed !!! Grow up ! I have had this teacher in three of my previous courses and will take them again.
Best professor ever in Anatomy and Physiology ! Loved all of her courses and i have taken three of them. She is loved by all 63 students in her course. The ones who are writing bad are the ones who do not want to put in time on their own to study and research concepts mentioned in class.
Sweetest professor ever! Very understanding and passionate about teaching her courses and students.
It is a hybrid course . You meet one day and the other day you work on your own on online course material. Professor is available in office hours always to answer questions if you have any and take the trouble to go meet her. She is very sweet and very helpful! Students who do not put in work or understand about hybrid course complain here.
