New teacher at EWU, does a good job of showing all views of the Economics world for each topic. Different Personality but class is pretty easy, just come to class do the assignments and study for the tests.
Mrs. Cullen is a wonderful econ teacher!! She is very enthusiastic. Her explainations are so clear and she makes me loves econ! Cullen is an awesome teacher. Her exams are not difficult if you attend her class and take notes. She is very nice and helpful! I recommand her to everyone!!
She makes the material easily understandable, really enjoys what she's doing. Her pet peeve is electronic devices going off, don't let 'em, or it's pop quiz time
I looove Kelley, I might actually have a crush on her :) On a more serious note, she is one of the best teachers I have ever had in college. I would highly recommend her, you won't regret it, you'll learn a lot (maybe little more than you would like but its for your own benefit)
This professor runs a tight ship. She is an excellent professor & has high expectations of her students. Lots of extra credit offered and review sessions/materials before tests. If your final grade is 90% or higher, you get a 4.0
she covers the material if you can comprehend someone who talks a thousand miles an hour and spends half of class talking about current events rather than explaining formulas. She expects you to be able to learn these on your own, she offers xtra credit till the class does bad on 1 quiz. Won't take her again. Favors smarter students.
Kelley is a great teacher!! She makes the material so understandable!! Her notes on the board are very helpful for studying and tests. She's very enthusiastic in teaching. Although she talks fast, she speaks very clearly and if you ask her to slow down she would!! VERY NICE teacher!! LOVE HER!! She makes me love to go to class!! Recommend her to ev
She thinks she is right about everything even when she is clearly not. Her class is pretty straight forward although her test can be hard. She is always willing to help. Overall I thought her personality was pretty cool. Middle of the road professor though
Cullen is an interesting one. She is very passionate about economics and is very knowledgable. I agree with the person below, she does think she is right about everything and playfully makes fun of the students which gets old. She is paranoid about cheating, didnt let us have water bottles during the final. But overall it was a good experience.
Tough teacher, toughest I've had at EWU. Must go to class to get notes which are essential for the tests and quizzes. I agree with the two posters below me; Cullen always thinks she's right, and she'll intimidate and outright make fun of students, all while having a sarcastic smile on her face. Favors smarter students. I would not take her again.
Cullen is an okay lecuturer. Her test are very difficult and she grades them exceptionally hard. Show up to class and take as many notes as you can with as fast as she talks. Way too concerned about cheating. Favors smart students and will make others look dumb in front of the whole class. Go to her office for help. Would NOT recommend.
Wow talk about a nightmare! She makes it so you have to go see her on your own time to learn the material. This is hard because I am a parent and have no time to drive to Cheney on her time. I heard the class if taught by another professor is much easier and not such a pain. I wish I would have waited for another professor to teach. Passing, bu
I wish I had the other professor prior to Cullen teaching this class. She has many quizzes all of which are timed without adequate amount to finish. She makes the class much more difficult than necessary. She is obviously a feminist with a grudge against men when talking about her personal life. Stay away if you can unfortunately I had no choi
I am taking her for 404 and it is a harder class, but keep in mind it is senior level. If you have trouble she is very helpful and is willing to go out of her way to be there for her students. The only thing I dislike about her class is that she never gave us enough time for the tests and quizzes. Overall a good teacher
She is a excellent professor even throught her class is very very tough. I've never taken a class like that taugh. She is very nice and helpful. Learned a lot from her class
She is an extremely tough teacher. She EXPECTS you to know the material as well as she does. Study everything. Quizzes are 20 min and long, homework is time consuming, tests are very long and only 60 min. I strongly recommend someone else.
The class is much more difficult than it should be because she makes a time limit on the tests. Problem is that she doesn't give enough time! She is very knowledgeable on the subject and thinks you should know it as well as her. She even has difficulty in her lectures and cannot teach in a timely manner, but expects you to fly through the test..
One of the hardest intructors i have ever had. She expects you to know everything. I took this class for my diversity requirement and i feel like it was meant more for economic majors. FYI:It was WMST 426 and ECON 424 class. And she keeps repeating that there should be a pre-requisite for this class and believe me she is right! Overall pretty hard.
Very hard instructor. expects from her students. good notes but tests are still very hard and she grades them hard. Favors her econs majors. PS: Would never take her again. and hardcore femenist.
Very hard and unorganized. Her notes are good but she is not good with her timing. We have a test in 2 days and she said she would post the review sheet on blackboard last week but nope hasnt done it. She expects her students to know everything about the class.
This class is amazing, she knows what she is talking about and teaches it well...if you read, come to class you'll do great!
SO HARD but great
She is absolutely the worst teacher ever! I love economics but do not take her unless you have to! she giggles 25 mins a class and is a man hater with a chip on her shoulder because she married a stay at home dad. she is completely unorganized which is making me question if she even has a PHD. stay away from her unless you are female and a suck up.
Class is difficult, material is interesting, Kelley makes it interesting and fun. She expects a lot from her students however, it is a 400 level course, its university, students should be used to it! Take this class if you really care about learning about Economics. She tells stories that makes the class fun.
Kelley was extremely difficult for a intro to microeconomics class, but loved her. she actually made me want to learn the material. Before you take her please consider that she is in her mid 30ish and has 2 kids, she is my stereotypical crazed female professor who will freak out at a drop of a hat, but god damn she entertained the hell out of me
Tough teacher, but will really do her best to help you out when you need it. She can be really intimidating at first, but she is not as scary as many people think she is. I highly recommend her classes, I learned a lot.
Learned so much in the class. Attending everyday is essential to understanding the material. If you take good notes you will do great in the class. There is a ton of homework that takes a lot of time so make sure you take this class with super easy classes.
She is a great teacher and very easy if you give a standard effort (attend class & take notes & be nice.) She has many pet peeves, but most - if not all - of them are reasonable. What's nice is that she gives previous tests to study from prior to a test. 93% 4.0 cut off =). I would recommend her to anyone willing to come to class everyday.
This was an extremely time consuming course. She is a great teacher and explains herself and the subject well. Extremely helpful on lengthy homework assignments. If you put the time in and bust your butt for this class, you l do great. If not, there is a good chance that you will fail pr at least suck
Kelley rewards students who give there dry best. If you try and do everything in your power to pass, you will pass with a good grade. Don't take Kelley, if you don't plan on trying though. It's still a hard class but she rewards hard work.
very hard teacher. expects too much..needs to make test materials more clear. fast at explaining and doesn't repeat unless you come in on your own time. super tough to pass.. tests are way too hard.i study for a min of 5 hours and cant pass them, i feel prepared and then when i see the test i am confused have to take it in 10 and freak out.
Kelley believes in all of her students and expects your best work. It is a faster paced and time consuming class, but it's a 200 level and there's a lot of content. She's extremely helpful out of class and is all about time efficiency with her tests. TAKE HER. She inspired me to major in economics!
Very difficult class. He quizzes and tests are timed, and she admits most will not finish them. I got bad grades because I couldn't finish, not for lack of knowing the material. When you approach her she calls you "an inefficient test taker" and tells you to practice more (even if you have spent hours on homework and practice quizzes) AVOID HER
1. Quiz every Friday: 10 mult. choice, 2 pts. each, 20 mins. timed! 2. Talks VERY fast 3. Seems nice, but if you ask "dumb" questions she'll make sure the whole class knows 4. Gives extra credit but it doesn't help grade AT ALL 5. Tests are HARD (I went to EVERY review) but didn't do well on tests... 6. If you skip class you will fail. AVOID.
ECON 404 (now 300) was the worst choice. I was supposed to get a 0.7, but with extra credit, I eked out a 1.0 .Worst Econ prof ever; she went too fast in lecture, repeated herself, timed quizzes/tests and even made us attend lecture AFTER a brutal exam. AVOID.
Kelley goes over & beyond in order to help you understand the material. Be prepared to attend class, take notes, ask questions, and get involved. Avoid this class only if you're looking for a free pass. Definitely one of my favorite professors Eastern Washington University!
She has a dry sense of humor and can come off as rude (at times). Homework is due even when she hasn't gone over the material yet which makes it tough at times. Exams are killer; expect to be racing against the clock. Expect to work hard if you want an A. She takes a lot of time out of her day to help students IF YOU ASK so take advantage of it!!
She's a great professor, really explains the material well. She can seem impatient in class at times, but is super helpful if you take the time to ask her. If something confuses you, go to her and ask. Expect to have to read the book, TAKE notes, and study on your own. The first test is super crammed, but the other two are better.
Kelley is an amazing teacher and a great person. If you don't go to class it's likely you won't pass but she is very helpful and does a great job at explaining the material. I definitely recommend her for any course
Kelley is a great teach yo
Kelley is an awful teacher. If you don't understand something and you ask a question, she will humiliate you. She makes the class extremely fast paced and difficult. She's a nice person out of the classroom, but I would never recommend anyone to take her class.
Here is the thing about Kelley, she is tough. Yes she can be rude at times, but she is here for the students. Just don't make her feel like her time is being wasted. The BEST advice, STUDY FOR CLASS!! Skim over what she will cover and then you will be that smart student that can answer her questions and do well on the quizzes. A 4.0 is possible!!!!
If you're taking Econ as a pre rec and it has nothing to do with your major, stay away from Cullen! However, if you're serious about Econ and it's your major, she would be good for you. She cares about her students but she expects too much out of her 100 level class. She times the quizzes (50 minutes) and tests(10 minutes), and they are typically packed full of material. She has very high expectations and expects the students to be able to answer at the level she can. I would definitely stay away from her if I had a choice. Greene would be a better option, she does open note & open book quizzes and tests. If you don't come to class, you definitely won't pass this class. Overall a good person and good teacher but I wouldn't take her class again. BARELY got out of that class with a C, and that's with studying for hours every night.
Not very helpful with trying to help you understand the material fully.
Kelley Cullen is the worst professor I have ever had, I would not take her class again. She makes her students feel dumb and doesn't answer our questions.
She managed to turn her classroom into a political forum where she announced her opinions and insulted anybody who disagreed with her. She shames people for asking questions and leaves many unanswered. She is rude and highly unprofessional. Stay away from this instructor!
Worst teacher I have ever had.
Kelley Cullen lives in a different world than the rest of us. She is completely unaware in this world most of us call Earth. It's clear shes passionate about her version of economics and her VERY Liberal values and views. If you are on the more conservative side; she will insult you like no other. She believes she is superior to everyone else.
Professor Cullen was a good choice for this class. I am not good at any thing math like and I really understood this class and did better than I thought I would. She is very open to meeting outside of class to help and for each test she leads a review session. I would totally take all my econ classes from her if I could.
I took Kelly Cullen for Econ 100. The class itself is really easy and there really isn't much work involved. If we are talking straight Econ class curriculum she is a good teacher. BUT she is extremely liberal and tries to push her political views on students daily. Every class she tired to convince students to vote her way. Very easy 4.0 though.
Dont get my rating wrong she knows what she is talking about but if you dont, dont bother she tends to be very condescending and rude if you answer wrong or ask a dumb question. Would not recommend to anyone.
Kelley is an awesome teacher, Just do your best and she will pass you. Lots of homework that are easy but time intensive (Busy work).
Kelley covers a lot of information in a limited amount of class time. She gives you time to study and doesn't use any trick questions on quizzes. Definitely recommend doing some extra credit, it will help in the long run. It isn't a political class, but she does bring up politics a lot for economic reference.
Great Professor! I took her for ECON 100 and now ECON 454. She's very clear on what she wants for her projects and is a very lenient grade when it comes to projects and quizzes. If you participate in class and actually listens to what she has to say, her classes are a breeze. I did the bare minimum and barely study for quizzes and high B.
Kelley was great! Her class is very interesting and I actually enjoyed being there. She grades pretty heavily on tests, but the tests are designed to be finished by the average C student in 55 minutes. Quiz every Friday, and you get a whole week to do the homework. She offers a 1% boost per extra credit assignment, so it's very helpful. RECOMMEND!
I loved Kelley. She was the one of the first professors that I had here at Eastern. Very caring professor and will give you feed back if you email her assignments. She prepares you for what is to come in college. Great freshman level class, would recommend.
honestly dread this class with a passion. she posts way too many assignments and quizzes at the same time making the class overwhelming. I really hated this class.
Hated this class so much, I felt too much was assigned all at once between quizzes and homework everything was posted so frequently and it was overhwlming and unnecessary. would not recommend
Literally hated this class so much. I do not like this instructor, she is a terrible teacher and gives alot of work. Confusing teaching. would never recommend this to anyone its torture.
I took this class online, which seemed like the only viable way to take this class. The way she organized the course was a bit of a mess this quarter. There is a reading quiz for each chapter, then a post unit quiz and then an exam for each module. Take this class online with any other professor if you can.
Professor Cullen is the best and I don't get how anybody can badly rate her. Just because she assigns a lot of work does not mean she is bad. She is not an easy A by any means and she makes you earn the grade, but she will help you as long as you show your trying.
Kelley is a great person and I enjoyed taking her Moneyball class. We hardly had to do anything for it. We read the book and occasionally had a few tough projects that were easy if you listen and take notes. She wants the best for every student and is so passionate about sports, which I love. I recommend taking this!
Look, if you like stats then good for you, she is not a bad person but I would never ever take another class of hers again. Absolutely terrible. I hate this class so much it made me switch majors.
Kelley is fantastic! Her class is definitely not easy at all, but she is always willing to help you in every way she can as long as you ask her for help.
gives very little time for tests and quizzes and blames students for "not being prepared". she does allow students to send their projects to her prior to turning them in and will let you know if theres anything to fix
Kelley Cullen is the worst professor I have had at EWU. Her quizzes were on a strict time limit and she had frequent errors that she would make her students "cross out" or correct. She is not personable and makes you feel dumb in her class.
The worst professor I've experienced yet. I don't think she understands exactly what she's supposed to be teaching. The lectures never made sense and didn't match the textbook. Quizzes were a mess. She does provide support and is willing to work with you, which saved my grade. Unless you are stats savvy, don't take.
Almost insulting. I don't understand how this is considered a college level course. The lectures are 90% filler. Everything we have learned in lecture over the course of the quarter could have been taught much clearer by a competent professor in about a week.
She's alright, the class could definitely be harder and it's project based. She doesn't grade the projects so it's difficult to get feedback on previous projects and apply it to the new ones. She is also the type to humiliate students in class and belittle you if you don't know something. she gives out extra credit though.
Very understanding and quirky teacher. Records and posts video lectures of class so you can go back and rewatch. Allows quiz retakes and gives easy extra credit. I really enjoyed her but think the class could've been better if it had a weekly lab to help with projects.
Professor Cullen is a good professor, but her classes are tough. If you need to take DSCI 246 after this, she does a good job prepping you for that class. You NEED to attend class and write pretty much everything she says, her lectures are more important than the textbook. Weekly quizzes, 4-5 projects, and a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Can't stand this professor. Gives weekly quizzes with a 30 minute time limit so you feel rushed when taking them. Treats the class like you are in middle school. Do not recommend.
Professor Cullen has weekly 30 minute quizzes that are insanely difficult to finish on time with the amount of material on them. She also takes literally months to grade (almost the final and haven't received my first quiz grade). Quizzes heavily based on lectures. She is very considerate when requesting deadlines to be pushed back though.
Professor Cullen only has a few quizzes and several projects, but they are all heavily graded so you MUST do well on them. It appears she thinks this is your only class and you don't have a life outside of it because all of your time will be consumed by this class. She also takes forever to grade work. Very generous with extensions, however.
Gives weekly quizzes and projects due every other week. Has "office hours" but very rarely provides actual help. Gives retake quizzes but doesn't grade them in a timley manner, when asked about grading time frame she will say they will "be done tomorrow" and still arent graded until the end of the quarter.
This was the absolute worse class I have taken. If I could have given her anything less than 1, I would have. Not only does she take forever to put grades in if you ask for her to enter your grades she is reluctant to do so. As for her in class, she is very passive aggressive as you asks questions, and quite frankly laughs at you before answering.
What I mean by this is, if you like to get utterly and completely humiliated in front of the entire class for asking the most simple questions, such as, "would you mind repeating your question?", then this class is perfect for you.
She is not only a harsh grader, but also loves to give pop quizzes, not teach you what is on the quizzes and then expects you to write absolutely every ridiculous word she speaks during her lectures Lectures are NONSENSE and then you get the privilege of being tested on it!! How exciting! Taking her to student affairs after this term is over:)
Absolute worst professor I've ever had. She gives quizzes every week and only gives you 30 min to complete them. You also MUST do well on them since they are worth 25% along with your projects worth 25% so half your grade. There are 6 quizzes total and she still hasn't graded the first one week took with one week left till the end of the quarter.
Worst/hardest class ive taken only due to the fact that she expects you to know something just because she said it once in a lecture and is a horrible teacher.
I think Dr. Cullen is a good professor to take with the online version. There is a quiz every week where you only get 30 minutes (which is rarely enough time), but I think she graded them more on completion and effort than accuracy. It would have been nice to receive grades in a timely manner. Remember to watch her lectures for the projects.
This professor had insanely large projects that were estimated to take 30-40 hours each. The sample quizzes provided are in no way accurate to the actual quizzes, which screws over anyone who uses the sample quizzes to study.
This was the worst class I've ever taken. The online students are practically ignored. The lectures are near nonsense. The sample quizzes were nothing like the real tests. The projects were huge, with little guidance. Nothing was graded until after finals ended. I felt underprepared and frustrated all the time. Grades mostly on completion at least?
Mrs. Cullen is an amazing teacher. While it was a very lecture heavy class, she did a great job at explaining every topic in depth. It was very easy to follow the large amount of information. Not to mention she's also a hilarious person, she felt so down to earth while also staying professional. Overall a great class, would 100% take her again.
Very frustrating class. Only at midterm and I'm so done. Doesn't grade anything for months, has weekly quizzes that are impossible to finish in the 30 minutes she gives you, has make up quizzes that are due before the original test is graded. Lectures are 3hrs that could be summed up in 30 minutes. And so much more. Do not take this class
Kelley's class is challenging. Projects that meet the requirements only earn a C. To get a better grade, you must go "above and beyond," but this is challenging when projects aren't graded until the final week. Kelley can be dismissive when students ask questions, often making snarky comments. There needs to be more Stats 1 options at EWU.
Her lectures are fast-paced, and she expects us to write down everything she says, even when it's difficult to keep up. When I asked if class recordings would be posted, she said we need to take notes faster and suggested teaming up with classmates, but that's not always feasible. She likes to make things more difficult than they need to be.
I do not recommend at all, i felt attacked when i forgot something that from the lecture she mentions once. i did not grade most of my assignments till after all my projects and things were missing. She also missed class, which rushed our learning, leading to 2 bad quiz results for the class.
Her lectures were convoluted and structured poorly. There are 4 long project, and she never gives feedback on them and as of finals week still hasn't graded any of them. She can be condescending and blames students instead of her teaching for the averages on quizzes and tests being bad. She also makes a lot of mistakes during lectures.
Professor Cullen teaches a very hard class but in my experience she was very accommodating outside of her grading. When I had a question she would answer it fast and provided very helpful answers. However, this class is hard quizzes are almost impossible to complete on time and recorded as well as quizzes. This class is a large time commitment.
Doctor Cullen is one of the better professors I have had at EWU. You definitely need to attend classes in order to get a good understanding of the material, and be prepared to take notes. That being said, she is incredibly passionate about the subject matter and will do everything she can to help you succeed in her class. I recommend her!
Projects are 10-20 hours, quizzes are nothing like the lectures she goes over. Reading assignments every week, which have zero correlation to the assignments. Icing on the top, she will not grade an absolute thing until the week of finals, so you never know where you stand in the class, percentage wise. Take a different instructor.
I am taking her online business statistics class. She hasn't graded a single assignment the entire quarter and doesn't teach you anything at all. I have never had a worse professor or teacher in my life. Nobody in the class ever knows what's going to be on the tests because she spends the entire lectures talking about random excel projects.
I cannot express how horrible of a class this is. I am a straight A student and usually have no problems with professors. She introduces new technology the last two weeks of class, she hasn't graded a SINGLE assignment the whole quarter so no one knows if they're going to pass. She needs to be fired immediately.
I am taking her online DSCI 245 class, and I should have listened to everyone trying to warn me. This week is the start of finals and not a single quiz or project from the quarter has been graded nor given feedback on. I am currently sitting at 45% in the class and that's with all extra credit and every assignment submitted. DO NOT RECCOMMEND.
Didn't grade a single thing until the day grades were due. She gives you the opportunity to retake quizzes but since she doesn't grade anything you won't know if you should waste your time and retake it or not. There are 4 projects that will take you 10-15hr. Her online lectures are terrible. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Quiz every week about the material. Projects are time consuming, but her videos of instruction guide you how to complete the assignments. Attendance is not taken but if you miss her class, you miss ALOT of material. Projects were not graded until about the last week of classes. Extra credit is given like an economics game.
Kelley really is a great teacher and cares about her students a lot. She lets you retake quizzes and even though she is always behind on grading she will grade assignments for you if you go to her office and ask. My advice is start the projects ahead of time because they do take long but if you put in REAL EFFORT you'll get a good grade
I recently completed Business Statistics with Professor Cullen, and students should be aware that this course is very lecture-driven and assessment-heavy. The class structure relies heavily on long lectures followed by high-stakes exams, which may feel overwhelming for students who benefit from more interaction or hands-on practice.
