she's very generous in marking your paper..but her exams are tough.. need extra work.. explanation in class in not really clear..gotta learn by urself..only suitable for those of you who are strong in chem
She is generous in giving credit and marking. It's relatively easy to get A. She's also very patient and cares for individual student exceptionally. Excellent instructor!!!

Very nice, but often hard to relate lectures to book material. Tests gen. cover lectures and she does bounce around a lot. Allows some test redos/seems to grade on curve. Often unsure of your own grade tho. Works well one-on-one to help you.
Unprofessional attitude. Favorite phrase : "I'll drop you from class". Expect to teach yourself. Started off with 33 students in class, dropped to around 13. Forget it - choose Rezaie.
If u take her evening class, please be prepared for her overtime lab peroid until 10:45!
Great letter of Recommendation! Thanks very much Kelly! (I took her class in summer 03) She's nice and always ready to help her students! Best thing is you can email her anytime for help and she will get back to u very quick!
i hate chemistry even more after taking her class.
Easy grader- lots of partial credit. Lots of application questions on lab tests - not much theory. Lots of calculation. Lectures are disorganized, hard to follow. Very nice & helpful, but it's usually not clear.
A nice instructor. Grade is easy to get. I got full marks on quizzes and midterms
took summer course and she was bad bad bad. lots of partial credit, but lab is easy to mess up on and your grade will drop severely. better off taking this class at your university if youre trying to score credits at home over summer likei was.
her tests aren't bad, but you really have to study from the book - she's not clear nor organized and is very busy outside of class. she's often leaves students in lab as she works in her office. evening class can end as late as 11pm. I was in lab extra 10hrs to finish qual. analysis. but nice person
I definately like her grading with all the partial credit, but it all comes down to you really studying and understanding the text. Practice, Practice, practice all the problems she gives you from the book. She lacks organization, and time management, other than that I felt she was a good teacher
You don't need to read the book at all, if you go to class every day. She tells everything and uses good practice problems. She was fun too!
She was veru unclear in her explanations of the material, but was very sweet and tried to help. but it didnt work...
I took her class in last summer. she is nice and flexible, and I think she is clear though....quite an easy grader. Actually i didn't learn a lot, but it's a chem1c class in summer~honestly it's not a time to learn but just to grab an A. take her if u feel the same~
Very nice personality, clear and helpful lecture. She is one of the best teachers in this school. Any way, 1B and 1C are challenging, study hard!
Her tests are very very similar to the practice she provides for practice. If u do well in her practice and textbook problem, you should at least get a B in the class. She is not very helpful on the problems you ask. She never work through a problem with u if ask her individually, not in the class. Recommand Dr. Daley, you suffer, but you learn
Dr. Liu's grading is so easy. She "tries" to give u "A".
I don't like her at all. she seems nice on the appearance but actually she's rude and very unresonable. She grades hard and is very strict. Time management is so bad! lecture is boring and she's so picky on the lab. have no idea why a part-time teacher can be so b**chy!
The teacher is nice but really chaotic in her teaching style. My notes (which followed the order of her lecture) were often so disorganized that they became useless. In my class she didnt have a midterm untill the AFTER the last day to drop. She crams a lot into the last two weeks and her final was unreasonable hard considering the time we had.
dr. liu is a wonderful lady who dedicated to teaching you. However, if she see that you don't try on homework, tutoring in math lab or miss a day. You will fail the course. but most people who go to college want to get out, so they try hard to pass...I recommend her if you willing to try and do your best/grades on curve and has 64% is a C/good luck
Took chem 1B. A lot of time was wasted (her being late, overly long breaks, or reviewing material for the 2nd or 3rd time). She's inexperienced and had to occasionally look things up during class. Easy grader though, I got a good grade in this otherwise hard class. I'd recommend another teacher if you want to master the material.
she is the worse teacher i ever had she can't speak english . I think first she needs to improve her english.
Very poor time management. Unclear in explaining concepts. Tests on things that are not emphasized in class. How can you tell what the important concepts are?
Nice teacher but very mean at times!!!! She id helpful, her tests are very difficult!!! If you can understand her lecture then you are fine. Lab exams are surprisingly easy compared to lecture exams! She has a very strong accent so be prepared!!! She sometimes might appear to be partialaway as soon as the lab is over so you get no time to ask quest
she is a nice teacher and she sends you the test keys after each test so you know what you missed. she is an easy grader and if you work hard you will get an A. But you have to learn to teach youself ALOT from the text and her powerpoints.lab tests are easy. dont worry too much on the qaulitative analysi because even if u get 1 wrong u will get A-
Worst Teacher Ever. Teaches you a whole chapter of new material in 40 minutes & expects you to do a test of it right away.May yell at you if you ask a question. Makes fun of the class for not understanding. Places trick questions of her tests which have nothing to do with the textbook or lecture questions. Doesn't teach, just yells out powerpoint
She's good at explaining things in lecture, but ask for help on your and she tells you to try harder, think more. Totally annoying. If you've tried already, she should actually HELP you. If you goof off in class, she'll definitely hold it against you. She's an easy grader overall, so if you are polite in class and do study some, you can get an A.

Keeping up with your work you will be ok
Accent isn't bad. People still understand. Don't be fooled by first two weeks of lab and lecture. She complicates it just to have people drop and then she gets easy. Her exams are very easy and straight forward. Very much by the book. If you know the book, then you know the exam. I used to get B/Cs in other chem classes. With her...As!
She's an adorable person. She won't tell you the answer, she makes you think about how to get it. Most people think she doesn't know much. Also, she's not the complicated mathwork kind of chemist. She's a conceptual chemist--a REAL chemist b/c she does real research. I prefer her pace of things. Accent takes 30minutes to get over. All good!
NOT RECOMMENDED!Sure, she's very knowledgeable about the application of chemistry, but seriously, she can't teach well. I like chemistry and was enthusiastic about this class until I realized how incapable and inconsistent she was with teaching and grading. I'm just glad it's over. Avoid her if you can...
I like her. You can email her questions you have and she will reply with helpful hints. I like the way she teaches. Then again, I only had her for the lab section. I will definately take her for CHEM 1C if I can. She's funny, no tact.
She is very nice and responds to emails promptly but wont give you answers, just hints. Lecture are decent but she goes through her powerpoints very fast so you will have to read/learn from the text on your own. She did give review worksheets and went over test answers.Kelly is not the best but you could do much worse. I would take her class again
she reads directly from her powerpoints, late for every class, was even 1.5 hours late to our lab, and still made us do the lab. our lab notebooks were supposed to given back to us after the final, she didnt start grading until the final, so we waited an hour after the final to get them back. makes lab tests EXTREMELY hard. taught myself everything
Got A-. I don't know why her ratings are so low. Her lectures tends to be boring, but study a bit & read the book and you'll be just fine. She's so nice and always willing to help. Her tests were not too hard. I would definitely take her again. She teaches everything you need to know for this level. TAKE HER CLASS!
She's always late to class, but get really angry if students are late. She kicked some people out of lab this quarter. Her teaching isn't that great but she tries to help you. She grades the labs really hard and never hands back any work. She gets mad if you don't come to her lecture and is kind of moody. Overall not a hard class tough..
I hate this teacher. she is never willing to help you. if you ask her questions she'll tell you that I already explained it in the lecture. she can be really rude and mean sometimes. if you really want to learn DON'T take her. She is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life.
Professor Liu is a pretty good teacher. She is really great at explaining 1B concepts, but kind of hit or miss for 1C. She is a genuinely nice person though and if you work and listen to her you will do fine. I can conclude that she is a exceptional scientist, and decent teacher. Like all chem courses though 1C requires a lot of work.DO YOUR WORK!
I feel bad leaving her a bad review, she is really nice, but not meant to teach intro level chemistry. She goes too fast and doesn't explain anything with concepts. Just numbers. :(
She is not clear in her lectures, she solve simple problem at lecture but pick hard problems for exam, unfortunately the average i her class is always C and mostly D, she often calls students dump in the class, which is rude. she has a good hard but super busy life that's why her office hours are very short
DO NOT TAKE HER! She does not care about her students. My experience: When I asked her for help with a problem, she made me feel stupid for not knowing how to do it. When I had a question and emailed it to her, she would not check it until it's too late (I had to tell her to check). Also, she has a very thick accent that is hard to understand.
You need to avoid this teacher. Her lectures are useless and she doesn't help her students. Class itself isn't hard but she has a lot of pointless assignments that make it difficult. Also very rude to students.
Highly energetic and detail oriented. At least in Chem 1A (Summer), never posed a question without also talking about it for 5 minutes to fully answer it. On the other hand, if you are easily confused or cannot organize your memory, you may be left behind. But that's chemistry! She's highly motivated to teach, which is all you can hope for.
Hard to understand what she is saying and can often times be very unreasonable. Class is fairy easy though. Don't take it with her if you don't have to
If you are crazy for chemistry then this class will be perfect for you. You will not have time for other class either for yourself. This professor is unfair and she makes sure she exhaust the students with assignments that are infinitely long and useless. You will work hard for nothing because you can achieve the same results taking other class.
This professor should not be teaching in America. She thinks that because she can put a chemical equation together that she is all the universe needs. She thinks that all students should be crazy for chemistry not even considering the fact that no everyone is majoring in chemistry. In her mind everyone is damn and she is the best. Really!!
You will be called dumb you will feel dumb in this class even if you know chemistry She makes sure that she overload students with useless work and assignments More you work more work will keep coming till you have not energy left for your other classes She does not care about student she humiliate student in front of class by yelling at them.
You have to work hard in this class. She doesn't make it easy. This subject is difficult as it is but she makes it more complicated. She is one of those professors that want you to use critical thinking. There is nothing wrong with that but give something that we can actually use critical thinking, not some bs questions for lect and lab test
Easy, but horrible. Very rude.
She is the worst teacher in the history of my life..by far..Please, do not take her. Her accent is so broken it makes it impossible for you to understand her. Plus, she gives the worst conceptual tests in her broken English which makes it even harder..the material is easy..she is beyond unreasonable in any situation, and doesn't care a single bit.
I don't get where all the hate is coming from. Kelley is very straight forward and easy to approach. She grades fairly. If you make a small mistake early on in a large problem she won't let that ruin the whole thing. I hate chemistry and I'm not great at it but this class wasn't too bad. She has a strong accent but its not difficult to understand.
She's is really not that bad. Make sure you keep up with the class, do all the assignments and you will be prepared for the tests. The textbook required is very very very helpful, she basically takes all it's example problems and puts them on her tests. The only thing that bugged me was that her final was killer but she curved it in the end.
Quizzes are not too bad, but midterms and final was pretty tough. Chem1B is a difficult subject to learn, but Liu is quite a lenient grader and understanding, so come to her if you have questions and she'll gladly answer. Read the textbook and definitely do the hw too, it will help you out on the tests!! :)
10% Built in extra credit on ALL examsquizzesassignmentslabs. Listen to lecture, do homework, easy A. Has a bit of an accent and can be curt at times but if you pay attention you'll do well. She expects you to have a good grasp of the Chemistry 1A material but will spend a few days going over it. She's sometimes late to class by 5-10 minutes.
Her accent is terrible and not understandable. Lots of theorem teaching but no practice examples in class. She grades really tough and picky on lab reports and exams. It takes really long time to finish labs. She expects you to write every steps and turn them in before taking off. She is really mean sometimes when you ask her questions.
Very intelligent woman, she really knows her chemistry which is always appreciated in a teacher. If you ask for help she will give it to you, unless the answer is obvious. She likes you to find out things on your own like a real chemist would. Class is not too hard, but you can't pass her tests if you don't try in the class. I really like Liu!
She has snapped at students for asking for clarification/help, I don't find her approachable. If you are a bio major taking Chem as a requirement DO NOT take it with Liu. Her exams are extremely difficult, and her lectures are not very helpful. More conceptual lectures and does not work out a lot of example problems
Decently hard class, but if you have to take any other chem classes it is worth it to learn the material well. I wouldn't recommend this class to someone who is not motivated to learn, doesn't care about chem, or is simply looking to do minimal work and get a C
She is really mean. But you can learn a lot from her and can build a good foundation if you need to take chem 1c. But she is really mean and her exam is nightmare. However, you can still get an A if you study hard and read the textbook everyday. Also, she will give extra credits. BTW, The best prof i have ever had....
She's really mean and expects you to know everything she knows. Her exams have nothing to do with lecture and that's if you can even understand her lecture. She's very unapproachable if you have questions and laughs or snaps back at you if you ask "stupid questions"
Take ANY other chemistry professor. She yells at you when you ask her questions, doesn't explain material clearly, and is overall very unhelpful/unapproachable. Seriously, take any other chem professor by any means necessary.
By far the absolute worst chemistry professor I've had. She talks very fast assuming everyone is up to speed and understands what she is saying. She does not explain material clearly, and expects everyone to know all the concepts. She got angry at the class and put everyone down because the test scores were not in her favor.
She is a terrible professor, always off-topic. Here accent makes her difficult to understand and her grammar is extremely poor. She is atrocious at explaining things and giving out directions. She nitpicks at EVERYTHING and grades extremely hard.
She is terrible at explaining things, but is really precise with her grading. Her grammar is horrendous and she is difficult to understand. She refuses to answer questions and says "I explained it earlier." She makes you print assignments and labs yourself and DOESN'T explain how to the assignments. She posts work at the last minute through email.
Dr Liu is knowledgeable, but her lectures are bit rush. She claims "that's all you need know" then slams hard exams irrelevant to homework, and pushes time pressure on bloated exams. She lectures, but don't teach. I hope she could have given more final style examples, been more patient with questions, spent more time on problems instead of blaming
She is a very dedicated teacher, and she cares about how much you understand the concepts and logic. Have to work hard to get good grades. Also she is generous with her grading and extra credit.
Extremely rude, uncaring, and hard to get help from. Always late to office hr, never responds to emails although she pressures us to send her questions through email if we are stuck. I got As in both chem 1A and 1B with more difficult teachers and yet i did not pass her class. Her lab exams are always on the same day as the midterms. Dont take
lmfao just dont do that to yourself. extremely disorganized and shows up late to class/ offic hours. if we have a quiz that day she lectures the entire time and gives like 10-15 mins which is not enough time. really the worst professor
If Liu is your only option, I would try to take a chemistry class at De Anza or wait until next quarter. Her lectures are essentially text pulled from the textbook, but her explanation are so convoluted and she tends to get off topic a lot. Can be very rude and condescending at times. Drags out the material and wastes time on basic concepts.
Professor Liu knows her stuff, and if you know you stuff you'll pass this class with ease. The problem with her class is that she is extremely disorganized and difficult to understand. She arrives and finishes late. She talks at the class, not to the class. She has you buy an expensive, TERRIBLE homework service. Be prepared to teach yourself.
disorganized. boring lecture. speaking from someone who had the highest grade in class before the final: don't expect the final to replace your lowest midterm. It's stupidly hard, involving things she did not teach. Half of the class got C and below before final. She did give some extra credits. The lab taught me (different instructor) better.
Professor Liu's class was hard for sure. Her lectures consisted of her reading of the slides and skimming through them. We barely finished half of the chapters before the exams. She is understanding when you talk to her.
Beware of tricky exams. Her lectures can be hard to follow, she babbles, and gives surprises on exams. Constantly talking about how hard chem is. Read the text, go to tutoring because she won't teach you everything but guaranteed she'll test you on it. Even top students were blown away by her tests. Would be okay if she actually taught the material
I already have Bachelors degree and been thorugh tough professors at UC. At least they care about you and explains well with lots of help. She gets mad when you ask questions and she keep saying "we talked about this in the class" ok. you said ask questions,so I asked. Ended up blaming you for not paying attention during the class.
She is by far one of the worst professors I've had. She is extremely unorganized, creates assignments the day before it's due, and grades everything to the last detail. She also doesn't post grades until way later, so you won't know what your grade is for a while. Do not take her unless you have to!
dont take her,
Professor Liu is generally a sweet person, albeit a little too direct at times. Her lectures are disorganized, she messes up test dates, and there is SO MUCH HOMEWORK. You should prepare to teach yourself this course if you want to survive.
She really is a sweet person, & treats her students with respect although she is pretty direct at times. If you're taking her class, just get ready to study on your own because her lectures are disorganized & sometimes won't make sense. Definitely go to her office hours, she will help you! She gives a lot of hw too, but it's good for studying.
She does a great job at going into detail during her lectures, but the workload is pretty heavy. For an intro to chem class, doing labs, homework assignments, and outside studying on top of additional unfinished classwork is pretty heavy. However, I did learn a lot from the class. I recommend to take notes and pay attention as much as you can!
She posts hw before she even introduces a topic and expects us to already know what she hasn't even taught yet. She also gets upset if you ask her a question and will yell:"I ALREADY WENT OVER THIS"(even though she literally didn't). She shouldn't even be a teacher. I'd drop it in a heartbeat if it wasn't a required class for my major. Avoid her.
This teacher is super disorganized - it is far better to read on your own and watch videos online because she is extremely confused about the material she is teaching. She needs to understand the material before she can teach it - definitely recommend avoiding at all costs!
She's always late to lecture and she takes forever to set up, this causes her to go over lecture time. She's unorganized. Homework assignments are problems she hasn't gone over. Not helpful when you ask a question, makes you "think" about the answer instead of giving a direct answer. Show all your work on quizzes/exams to receive credit.
genuinely the worst professor i've every had. gives students unclear instructions and then gets annoyed that we aren't prepared. she expects students to be on time, yet is always 10 minutes late to class.
Professor Liu is probably the worst college professor I have had so far. She has been absolutely clueless when it comes to giving instructions in class. The majority of her test and quiz content is content not covered in her lectures, so reading the textbook is an absolute necessity. Get in her good books early on so you can show up late to class.
Worst lecturer I've encountered, her lectures are her just processing her own material half the time. Takes forever to grade lab reports, so much homework and worksheets she doesn't even give the answer keys to half the time.
She is the worst chemistry professor i have ever had. She shows up late for class and is unprepared. She posted the course schedule on week 4 of the quarter. very unorganized which made it difficult for students to succeed. She does not advocate for her students when they are sick or have personal issues. So you can't make up assignments or tests.
The actual class material isn't the most difficult thing if you're comfortable with chemistry, but her as a professor was so stressful. She's disorganized, didn't grade until the end of the quarter, yells at students, and doesn't listen to student feedback. She made the class so much harder than it needed to be. Idk how she's still allowed to teach
I'm currently taking her for Chem 1A lab. She is impatient and can be rude to students. She talks a lot just to say a lot of nothing. Don't waste your time with this professor. She changes her mind (or maybe she forgets) on how she wants assignments to be done and is never really clear on instructions.
Might as well have bombed the world trade center. Actually worst chem professor maybe even professor in general. Speaks in broken English that you can barely understand, extremely rude to students, and gives god-awful tests. She flexes a PhD as if it makes her smart, she couldn't teach a fish to breath under water. would give 0 if possible
She's passionate, but her lectures were very disorganized. We were behind the whole quarter, the syllabus schedule isn't right. She doesn't grade assignments until very late/end of quarter. Passive aggressive at times. Avoid taking her if you can, but if you do well understanding material on your own, you should be fine. Do her practices.
Find a different professor asap! Her teaching style is extremely rushed and disorganized, people aren't wrong when they say she's rude when people ask questions. Be ready to study because tests/quizzes are going to affect your grade heavily. Many people in class taught themselves the material, look into tutoring and the stem center.
Incredibly smart, but doesn't seem to know how to teach. You will need to live off the textbook, lectures are mid at best. Lots of hw, quizzes, tests, labs.. she's nice about late things, though. She kind of has to, I think, because she grades late. It would be a very informative class if I had the ungodly amount of needed for it.
I'm not trying to leave a malicious comment. However, she has absolutely no idea how to teach, and her grading criteria are vague. The scores for each Lab are often change, and is very strict about attendance. 1 minute late may only get you partial credit, and having a classmate check in for you is not allowed. Ironically, she is often late herself
There was an assignment that was changed to “no late submission allowed” without notifying us, and she also didn't tell us the rules for extra credit, so she often suddenly gives extra credit to certain students, which is extremely unfair. She is completely unfit to be a teacher.
I am an international student from China. There were some vocabulary words I didn't understand on the exam paper, so I asked her about it. She actually told me to retake an ESLL class, even though ESLL is not a requirement for chemistry. This is extremely disrespectful to me, and I will file a complaint with the school.
If chemistry is already a subject that you somewhat struggle with or doesn't come naturally to you, perhaps don't take her course during the summer (tutoring is also limited during summer). STUDY HER PAST EXAMS and know the conceptual's to do well on exams. She's a tough grader. Study the labs thoroughly for lab quizzes (they are more like exams).
Honestly the best teacher I've had in my entire time at Foothill College. I seriously don't know what's up with all of these malicious comments, but they're completely unfounded. She always gave us extra credit, changing our grades from a 75% (full credit) to a 12/15 (80%) without even looking at our lab assignments. TAKE HER! KL BEST PROF NA
THE BOTTOM COMMENT IS FAKE. This post is the real one. She is probably the worst prof I've had out of all the professors at Foothill. She grades like her personality (absolutely evil). Just don't take her. If you do, only read and do practice problems in the textbook. DO NOT LISTEN TO HER, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. PRAY TO THE LORD NOW!🙏
SAVE YOURSELF DON'T TAKE HER! During summer session, she would often say "I don't have time" or "I just said it did you listen" when you ask her a question. YOUR ON YOUR OWN! Use textbooks, organic chem teacher!! Strict on getting to class on time. Made people do a presentation during lecture for some reason. Never gave a perfect score on labs! RUN
Professor Liu is a quality chemistry professor. Go to class and show effort . She is considerate and fair. Lectures are top notch and tests are related to them. People who complain just don't study and practice. All they do is complain. I studied and practiced and got an A. Be more like me
Bro you know a professor is bad when people are leaving troll reviews 😭😭
In all seriousness though, she's a nice person somewhat, and you can tell that she's knowledgeable about Chem. However, her lectures are terrible and she's very moody. Ironically, her tests weren't that bad but she "balances" this by being a harsh grader (nobody got full credit on any lab report) and having you rely on self studying.
Listen to the reviews, don't think you can handle her! She gave a lot of homework, gives empty unhelpful lectures, is always late to class, is hard to contact, hard to understand, is a harsh grader, and is very disorganised. She also comes off as quite mean even though she's not trying to be. Save your sanity and GPA and go with someone else.
Take her only if you are good at chemistry and can self-study.Her lectures are boring but helpful. Go over practice problems and practice exams, because they are similar in difficulty and concepts to the real ones. She never gives 100% on the labs. Go over textbook problems to make sure you understand everything clearly, otherwise - you are doomed
Poor testing schedule; 2 midterms, 4-5 quiz/lab quizes in person. Assignments are not graded until days before the midterm / final or even at all. Heavy lack of assignment feedback. Lectures are okay, a little fast. Would not recommend taking this class unless you are already self-sufficient in Chemistry or are a good self-studier.
