good class but not everything is on the teat and some of the things are hard and confusing. but she is a good teacher
Great teacher, Very nice and helpful, especially in her lab. Lots of extra credit too!
Cool teacher.Laid back and she knows what she's talking about. recomended!!
check out kelli flaagan...same person
Very good teacher. Recommended of all bio teachers. Offers PLENTY extra credit. Easy to approach and understandable. Just study for exams, do the current events and you;ll do fine. Makes the class interesting and fun because she tells stories and examples that have happened to her.
An excellent teacher and very recommended. Makes lectures enjoyable and is very helpful.
Don't take this class at 8am. Do all the extra credit opportunities and this will boost your grade by one whole letter grade. I thought I was going to get a C in the class, and ended up getting an A. Know her study guides inside and out for the tests and take notes in class.
Kelli is a really nice teacher. If u ask her a question she will gladly answer it. She doesn't redicule u for asking questions like some teachers. Her voice is really clear and easy to follow. Her notes are very organized and class is always on schedule. Her tests aren't hard; follow the study guide and u should be fine. Overall great teacher
Man, I never enjoyed biology so much since i graduated from H.S. Elliott is a great professor who teaches by her own criteria. Great humor and very helpful. Tests are esay if you study the study guide. Lab is very fun too! I fell asleep in her class becuz of morning class, but overall, I got a good grade at the end. Great teacher and very easy goin
This is the best bio professor! She's really nice and sweet. Her lectures are easy to understand and she offers extra credit to help with your grade. She's very easy to approach if you have any questions. I'm pretty bad at science.. but I got in "A" in her class! Her study guides help a lot.
She's a great teacher! She made the subject even more fun than I thought it would be.She's very helpful if you have any problems and will try to make it clear for you.The animal essay and the report are fun to do and interesting but don't wait for the last day to do them!Just study with the study guides she gives you, your notes, and read a little to
breat teacher definitely recommend her.
Kelli is sweet and her zoology class was very interesting and informative. The assignments weren't too hard, but not easy either. Effort needs to be made. Tests are hard. USE STUDY GUIDE
Kelli's knowledge on the subject is vast and she is always willing to answer any questions students might have, even if they aren't related to the class! Definatley the best teacher I have had so far at OCC. Pay attention in class and have fun with the assignments. Her tests are hard, but everything is covered in the study guide, no suprises.
very VERRY good teacher, but you better study for the tests. i love her but i have a D in the class biology is just not for me, but she is very helpful just study and read the damn book.and you need it so better buy it.
She jumped around topics A LOT, and made an otherwise easy subject really difficult to comprehend. I wouldn't recommend this professor, even though there were many times she was funny.
wow. she's wonderful! she's kind, thoughtful, keeps the topic exciting and I PASSED! i'm very bad at science and I got a C+ in the class. she offers extra credit and you get points for attendance so show up to every class! her tests are a bit hard if you don't study but she gives AWESOME study guides online. TAKE HER, AVOID KRYDER!!!
She's a sweet teacher. I didn't do very good on the first two exams, but kept up with her labs and never missed any assignments and received an A in the course. I still see her around campus and she still remembers my name!
greeat teacher! last time i took bio in h.s. i barely passed w/ a C & hated the subject but now its not bad..shes helpful, caring about your grade, always willing to help, and tries to keep the topics fun. she offers a lot of extra credit so take advantage of it. *exam study guides are SUPER helpful & easy. take her, you won't regret it!
I hate science and this was my second time taking bio. the first time was with kryder (horrible!!!), and the second time was with elliott. she is a WONDERFUL woman! she gives you sooo many opportunities for extra credit and attendance points. i'm really bad at science and i passed her class with a solid C. She actually takes the time to help!!
Had her for both the lab and lecture and she was great! The lab was much easier than I thought it would. Her test in lecture are difficult if you don't study, but she does offer a lot of extra credit which makes it very realistic to get an A or B in the class.
Great teacher. Wish she taught all of my classes. Such a great person to talk to, even outside of class.
I really wasn't looking forward to taking Biology this semester but Kelli managed to make it better than I had expected. She is by far the most enthusiastic and helpful professor Ive ever had. Not a lot of homework. Tests require serious studying. Lots of extra credit.
She is such an entusiastic and helpful professor I've ever seen! It was a 8 am morning class, but I was able to stay awake and enjoy her lectures. She makes it so fun and interesting; how she explains material is sooo cute!! 40 pts of extra credit available.
Amazing teacher! She is very knowledgeable, and she made it seem interesting because she also throws in interesting facts about biology. Her tests are just difficult if you don't pay attention and study a lot. Take notes and read the book!
she's a sweetheart. you dont even have to show up to class and you still earn points. if you miss a test she is so understanding. she also offers extra credit. dont drop the class stick it out, you'll pass. just do your lab!!
This is a great professor! I definately would choose her class again anytime! I'm not a fan of Biology by ANY means but her lectures are clear, easy to understand, and her online website is amazingly helpful, especially all the extra credit she offers. If you don't get at least a C in this class, you shouldn't even be in college.
I definitely am not a science person and I was scared of taking this class. But she definitely made it easy and her study guides help a lott for tests. lots of extra credit!!
I really enjoyed her class and loved her humor. Was always there whenever I needed help with anything including anything not related to school. She deserves an aword or a honor for being the most outstanding and most awsome professor at OCC!!!!!!! She really is the greatest Professor alive!!! She makes college fun with her humor and is very eas
I LOVE THIS TEAHCER! Just wish she taught all my classes. To be honest...Kelli was more then just a teacher, she was like a friend, a older smarter friend that was teaching me zoology.
one of my favorite professors. taking a lecture class in the morning is painful in itself, but she really tries to make bio seem interesting. her tests are easy as long as you take good notes, and theres plenty of extra credit to help boost your grade. the only people who didn't get an A/B in the class are those who never even bothered to show up
Really great teacher that knows her material and loves what she does. 4 exams and comp final(little tough) plus two reports (easy). Not an easy A, but if you put the time into it it can be done. Very fun and interesting class. Learned a lot. Recomended.
the lectures are boring sometimes, but tests basically come straight from the notes.
She's a great teacher! Really tries to help you understand.Kelli makes it intresting while easy to follow. She makes herself avaliable for help often. There is just so much information to retain in Zoology you dont want to miss a class.
Great teacher but if you get bad on first test, she is not going to nice to you later on. Great Extra Credit Trip
She is one of the best professor I ever had. She is so fun and nice and willing to help. No HW. Just study EVERYTHING on the study guide for tests. Has a lot of extra credit too which helps.
teacher is funny, she young. i took her for lab too. the lab is easier than the class. The exams are kinda hard you need to study it. I studied the study guide and it kinda helped. i got a "b" in the class even though i got C's on the exam.
I loved her class. She is really fun and gives a lot of extra credit. If you pay attention and understand the concept then you're in good shape. If you're not a science major I feel this class would be a good choice.
I love this class. She is a terrific teacher who gives a lot of extra credit. You will find yourself learning so much because her lectures are so thorough. There are 4 exams (75% multiple choice and 25% written)and four 1 page journals. I enjoy her class so much because it is an easy class if you attend and pay attention. She is awesome!
Kelli's class was very fasinating and fun, she made everything clear and easy to understand. She was extreamly helpful and very sweet as she's a wonderful friend!!!
The lecture is interesting, clear, and useful. Test is easy if you follow the study guide. I got A finally.
Great Teacher, She is clear on her lecture. Have question just ask her and she will make sure that you understand. Test are hard but not too hard. Study the study guide. Give a lot of extra credit!! GREAT Teacher.
great teacher, she explains things really well. she also a very nice and genuine person, you can tell she really loves biology. you should go to class because its hard to catch up if you miss lecture.
This was her first time teaching 280 so there was some disorganization but overall I enjoyed the class. Her vast knowledge of ecology/zoology is quite impressive.Don't let her fool you.She is very intelligent. One complaint is the difficulty of this class. She made it far too difficult to get an A. Only 1 or 2 students got one.Everyone else got B's.
elliot is the best teacher i've had at OCC. you can tell she really loves what she does and she makes her lectures interesting-- she talks about her travels all over the world and relates it to what we're learning. she's funny and always happy to help, just be sure to attend lecture because the tests are based on it. i highly recommend her.
a great teacher to have for bio! tests are fair and lecture is interesting. shes really willing to help you out and answer questions if you have any.
WOW... let it be known that people that aren't pursuing a career in a medical field shouldn't take this class!!!! It was so much more difficult than it should of been. Her lectures are interesting but when it comes to her (4) Exams nobody was satisfied with their grades. TAKE PHYSICS ITS EASIER!!!!
She's cool. She definitely loves what she teaches. Her class is relatively easy to get a B in, as long as you attend lecture and pay attention. I usually didn't study for the exams and i got B's. She offers a substantial amount of extra credit. Lab counts as 1/3 of the final grade which is an awesome boost.
easy class just come to lecture and take good notes... make sure you look at the study guide and study hard.... and if you do really well in lab you can do really really well in overall
Take her!!!
loved her. never a boring lecture.
Ok this teach was incredible. She taught us more than Bio which made the class that much easier. Never bought the book, things i didnt knwo i would look it up on the internet, but her lectures are enough to do well in the class. If you can take her lab toooo shes super sick. take ti love it learn it preach it whoawhoa!!!!!!!!!
Loved her super nice and helpful, lectures are so good makes it interesting and explains good.Tests are a little hard you have to study and do the reading becuz that helps you too! She great, funny and i learned so much, shes easy to talk to and will help you if you need it just go to her office, she makes the time which i loved she cares!!
Great teacher very helpful. Only bad thing is some of the questions on the test she never went over or had on the study guide. Other then that a great teacher. Take her!!
Awesome teacher all together! very descriptive, explains everything super well. Never boring, great (cute) sense of humor, and always takes the time to answer questions in full.
I LOVE her! My all time favorite teacher at OCC. Her passion for biology shows in every class. Even running off of a few hours of sleep, I'm completely engrossed in her lectures. Her classes totally turned me on to a bio major. She is super cute too! Every biology student at OCC should NOT skip the opportunity to take one of her classes!
i am in love with this teacher. she is so funny and makes me laugh every class. all of her tests are exactly what is on the study guide. she's amazing. take herrr.
Shes a great teacher! I took her for the lab and lecture. She has a very fair grading system and gives plenty of opportunity for an A. Her labs were fairly easy you just had to do the work. She's very good at explaining the material. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
This class is a walk in the park. Shes an amazing teacher, and she post all of her lectures online. I literally went to half of the classes and when it came time for the test, i would listen to her lectures while answering her study guide. Got an A. Her extra credit assignments are super easy so makesure to not miss any. They take 5 mins at most.
Such a nice teacher, but damn that class was boring. I bought the textbook and opened that thing once (DON'T BUY IT). I went to class everyday (just lecture & note style, print the study guide so you know what you should write). I got B/C's on the exams & missed one journal, but w/ my lab points I got an A! I went to every lab & did all the work
kelli elliott is a really nice lady who is passionate about biology. i took her for lecture and lab and the class was pretty easy. If you go to the lecture and do the study guides youll do fine. She posts a study guide every week for the lab quiz's and attendance is necessary to pass.
You learn so much for this class and it is pretty easy. Everyone in the class gets either an A or a B. YOu just need a 15/20 average on the quizzes to get an A. Pretty cool class and funny teacher. You go to field trips on Fridays and actually learn stuff and apply what you are learning to the world. Never would have taken this class but I liked it
Took her for lecture and she's a great teacher. Take good notes and do the study guide if you want to do well on the exam. Tests are simple, multiple choice and a short answer. I'd definitely recommend her.
This class is pretty awesome. she is great and very helpful. the only problem I have in this class is her first 2 quizzes which are kinda bad-written and confusing. I love her passion abt Biology and Ecology. You have the chance to go out on fieldtrips every single Fri to do the lab thing.
Awesome teacher! super nice and extremely helpful, made the class interesting... the lab was pretty hard though but fair. Great sense of humor kinda nerdy though but very cute (the humor i mean, although she is kinda cute as far as looks too though) would very much recomend her class
She is one of the best teachers I've ever had! She obviously has a passion for the subject and it shines through in the lecture. The lectures are interesting and she explains concepts well.. I actually look forward to this class! It's a tough class but DEFINITELY take it with her! She's awesome!
class was freaking hard DONT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU WANNA FAIL!!!
Really nice teacher. Class was interesting. Offers extra credit which helps your grade a lot! Tests are alright. As long as you do well in lab, you'll do good in the class.
Also took her for bio 100, so funny and sweet I absolutely loved her! Take her class for sure! Make sure you use the study guides though! Know them like the back of your hand or you won't do well. Zoology had 4 exams and a comp final (hard!) and 2 research papers, bio 100 had 4 exams and final tons of ec
you can tell that shes really smart and knowledgeable about the subject matter BUT her tests tend to be a little difficult but as long as you study you should do well.
shes passionate about what she teaches, to get an A you will need to study, it is by no means impossible, the study guide is very helpful, gives alot of extra credit, shes nice, people say shes hot, mabye like 10 years ago
personally im crystal clear with my likes and dislikes; im not interested in bio, so if you are one of my personality, you'd hate this class' materials. but i had no problem with the professor, she is passionate about what she teaches and she is there to help you. take it if you are willing to learn.
She is a really helpful teacher and will answer any of your questions. Her material is not too bad; she even records her lectures for you to review over, which helped a LOT. Make you sure you attend her classes, because you can miss out a lot in one absence. Gives lots of extra credit and handy study guides. TAKE HER.
She is a very helpful easy to approach teacher. LOTS of extra credit, but the test are fairly difficult. I would take her again
i agree with the other comments, she is really helpfull. alot of ppl in class said she was boring, but i didnt find it boring maybe because the subject interests me(but it is not my major). she offers alot of extra credit it is kinda imposible that you get a grade lower than a c. i got an A in her class and i would totally recommend her.take her!!!
i LOVED Kelly. She is such a awesome professor. She takes the time to show you how things work and really gets animated about the class. Her tests are straight foreword and her study guides help. Only homework all semester were two easy to write papers. TAKE THIS TEACHER !
I'm hated Bio in high school but I managed to pass this class with a B. Her exams are pretty difficult, but if you're a good at studying you'll be fine. HW assignments are very easy. You won't need the book for assignments or to pass, but it makes studying for exams a lot easy. I recommend her for lecture, but don't expect a walk in the park.
Class isn't the easiest or hardest. She is clear in what she expects from her students in order to pass. Tests were fair have to study though. Assignments are super easy though. She's engergetic in what she teaches. Overall good professor. I didn't take her for lab, but I would recommend Dr. Wells.
She is basically the smartest hot person I've ever met. Great class, she makes it interesting. The tests are straight forward (no "trick" questions). There are written portions to the tests but they are really simple questions, nothing fancy. TONS of extra credit (almost a whole test worth). Overall just an amazing professor.
She is so helpful and explains everything to you. She is very passionate in her subject and you can tell!!
She's a pretty good teacher. Her lectures are useful and the info is all on the test so no need for the book. She gives a ton of extra credit so that's a plus. The only thing I didn't like is her lack of helpfulness. I emailed her to ask important questions and she responded back with snooty comments which never helped at all.
By far the best teacher I have ever had. I changed my major to biology because of her. There is tons of extra credit, homework is easy, and know the study guide questions they are the main source of the tests. Best class ever.
This class requires a lot of studying and memorizing if you want an A. She is very clear, and gives great examples. Extra credit available, d HW assignments that help boost your grade in the end if needed. Not an easy A. Quiz every Lab meeting. Ended up with an A in her class, but I did study a lot.
She is strict but fair. Note that her tests are HARD. she grades extremely harsh on Essay portion. Study hard, or you will end up with a bad grade on your transcript. Her class is interesting. If you are ready to spend a lot of time on studying animals, take her.
Amazing teacher!!I love kelli! Her lectures are amazing and so interesting! I wish she was my teacher for all my classes! She made me love zoology!! I would record her lectures..I could listen to them 100s of times and they were always interesting! TAKE HER! OCC'S BEST PROF! She also teaches ecology..I am sure its great sisne shes teching it!
Professor Elliott is great! I only had her for lab, where attendance is absolutely mandatory. The quizzes weren't too bad, and she'll go over literally the entire lab from the week before if you ask questions, so there's no reason not to. I'd definitely take more classes with her, if I could.
She is an OK teacher. Although I got an A in her class I did not her lecturing style. She is definitly not a good lecturer when she says UUUUUUUUUUm, uuuuuuuum... but you can survive her class if you study.
Great teacher! Honestly, she provides all the tools you need in order to pass the class. Lectures are definitely long, she'll use every minute of it, but she also posts lectures on itunes for free! No need for the book, she rarely uses it. If you attend bio lab, go to classlisten to lectures, and use study guides, this should be an easy class!
I just finished her class, and it was a good class for bio lecture. There are 30 extra points you can get. Tests were hard for me, but prints out her power points. You will well on her exams. Take her class if you want to learn something.
She is good and helpful but you must study. Not an easy grader but I got an A. The essay portion was easier for me than multiple choice exam. I would take her again.
Extremely helpful teacher, material and subject are challenging but she does literally everything possible to help you fairly earn your grade. I barely went to class at beginning of semester and she was very forgiving and helpful when it came down to crunch time. I don't care what she teaches, I'm enrolling in another of her classes fall semester.
You need to put an effort in this class to earn an A. Definitely not an easy subject, but she gives the best study guides! You must study for hours to do well on the test, and complete all assignments, but she can tell if you are making all the effort and WILL HELP YOU PASS. Very cool teacher, very smart and knows everything!
She is a great. Very passionate about her field and you will learn about Biology. Is not an easy A, but you can definitely get it with all the extra credit and lab work. It was a fun class, and I am looking forward to take another class with her.
Kelli is Awesome! If you want a teacher that is going to give you everything you need to know for your tests, she is the one. I suggest taking her for lecture AND lab. Everything is on the study guides and there is no way to fail her lab if you just go and complete the workbook. I am a B average student and got an A !
She is great! Very informative and passionate about what she teaches. She has a clear study guide for every test and mostly only tests on what is talked about class. I only used the book a few times to look up things on the study guide that I couldn't find in my notes. Would definitely take this class again or any other class she teaches!
She absolutely made me love the subject! In high school I did take APs for science courses, so I was prepared for this class. However, I didn't do very well in my high school biology class or environmental class. But there is a reason why she is a professor and not a high school teacher! Highly recommend, simply the best at OCC Would take her again
Amazing professor. She could make biology easy and fun even for those who hate it. She is very specific on what she will test you on as long as you attend her lectures and take notes. Homework is quick, easy, and to the point. As long as you put in the effort to get your homework in on time and listen to her lectures, it's an easy A.
Show up to class and do the study guides and you will pass
She's a good teacher. Keeps on topic for the most part and when she does veer off track, it's normally funny. Homework is rare, but do it anyways bc you'll need the points. The journals are weird but just mimic the layout she gives you and you'll be fine. She gives you an in-depth study guide for tests which really helps if you actually study.
I hate science, but I LOVE Prof. Elliot! She is entertaining and makes the class interesting, relatable, and easy! I felt like I learned so much without even putting in a lot of effort. She really loves her job, and it shows.
Shes the best take her!!!!!!
Professor Elliott is awesome! She's a cool professor - Low key but also REALLY helpful and it is clear she WANTS you to succeed! So willing to answer/explain any questions. She creates her own HW assignments to help you learn instead of selling out like other teachers who use MasteringBiology ($100). Truly a refreshing experience. SHE ROCKS!
Exams are all lecture based. She won't test you on materials she did not cover. Exams are fair and her lectures are AMAZING and interactive. She'll literally act out the action potential for her student to memorize and understand. Absolutely recommend. I got an A just by attending class and studying my notes.
Love her so much. The lectures are very informative and organized. Tests are super easy if you take notes and follow the study guide. Grades from homework are very necessary since they add up a whole letter grade if you do. An easy A unless you don't wanna take it.
Try to take her lab after her lecture if it's available. Most of the time she went over what her lab quiz questions ended up being in her lecture. Passionate and hilarious (if you like science mom jokes). Extremely helpful, go to her office hours at least two or three times in the semester. Exams were hard imo. Flashcards are your friend.
Professor Elliot is Amazing ! She really cares for students. She is straight to the point not tricky at all. She gives adequate extra credit and they are very easy assignments. Make sure you study for the exams though because they are not easy. Everything she tests you on is on her lecture slides. Lectures are very funny.
She cracks a few jokes here and there during lecture although towards the end the lectures seem to drag on. She is an easy grader for all homework and as long as you do the work you basically get full credit. Exams tend to be on the tough side but not impossible. No late work can be turned in for her class.
She's a great professor and if you have any questions do not be afraid to ask. Her lab and lectures were awesome. I don't like bio but once i took this class I loved it.
Very good lecture professor. Passionate about her subject and always answers questions. Do all the assignments and you'll be fine. Study for the tests. If you bomb a test, the assignments help keep your grade up. 4 tests, 2nd test is hardest. Take good notes from her powerpoints. Attendance is crucial to understand material. Textbook not used often
Professor Kelli is an amazing teacher that has very clear and interesting lectures. She really cares about the students understanding the material. Study her lectures and you will do well on the exams.
Took her for a winter class last year and totally forgot to leave a review. She is AMAZING. She is so nice and is willing to work with your schedule. Her exams are mostly based on her power points so if you study those then you will be fine.
I am currently taking the class. I bombed the first test but that's because I didn't study. Overall, she's a good lecture professor and highly recommended. Do your assignments and those should help maintain your grade if you bomb the tests. Also, the study guides are packed with info, but you need to go above and beyond that.
She is good teacher. So helpful, but exams are too hard. Her study guide doesnt work. If you study hard, you can get B or B- 30points extra credit.
Professor Elliott is a great lecture and lab professor! She knows exactly what she is talking about and finds ways to make it interesting to her students. It is necessary to go to class to fully understand her power point presentations which tests are based on.
Kelli was wonderful. Her class are lecture heavy and test rely heavily on what was discussed in class. Four test, plenty of homework to help boost your grades, and does give extra credit which is a bonus. Overall show up, pay attention, do the work, and you will pass.
Took her for Bio 100 and she was probably one of the easiest bio professors out there. I didn't really read the chapters, and relied heavily on her study guide to do well on the exams. Class is not hard and extra credit will bring your grade up A LOT so do it, if you do well in Lab, and decent on the exams, you can still get an A! easy homework.
Kelliot's class was fun and unbelievably easy. Class consists of a quiz about the previous lab, a lecture, a lab, and questions regarding the lab. As long as you show up and do the work, you will easily get an A. She's very caring and considerate and will answer any questions you have with a smile on her face! Great class, would recommend!
Professor Elliot is a great teacher. You gotta show up to class to understand her powerpoints though because theyre mainly pictures which she discusses and writes notes on during class. Shes clear on the material and makes study guides for each of the tests so as long as youre at least half paying attention to her lectures, youll do fine.
Kelli is hilarious while being great at teaching. She engages the class, and makes science relatable to every-day life. Tests were specific but not difficult if you study the material. Would definitely take her again
Kelli was an awesome professor. Her class is not easy though. I dropped the class when I bombed the third exam but honestly, I didn't pay much attention during the lectures and I got lazy. I recommend reading the book as well, which I didn't do.
Eye-opening class! I LOVED Professor Elliott but her tests were VERY difficult, many students struggled w them. Yet, I looked forward to coming into her class each day bc she was so knowledgeable & funny, to the point that I actually feel bad about transferring; although the exams were extremely hard, I still wished I took her other classes.
Awesome professor! Has such a great attitude, very helpful and truly passionate. Wish she taught more high level Bio classes. Really an inspirational and genuine professor.
Prof. Elliott is amazing. She's one of the first professors I have taken in my first term here at OCC: Summer '18. And she is easily the kindest & most approachable. I'm glad I took her because not only she has inspired me to love our environment more but also prepared me for college-level work. Very cool prof.! Hope to take more class from her.-RB
Good course. she is helpful.
I mean its an easy course but her exams are 60% of the grade. So, you mess one up and it screws your chances of trying to get an A.
An amazing biology teacher. Make sure to take notes thoroughly and pay attention during lectures. Also study about 2-3 days in advance before the test and do not miss any of the journals or homework assignments because they are easy points.
she is probably one of the nicest teacher I have taken so far. you will have to take notes while lecture in order to pass her class. A textbook isn't needed (she recommends a textbook, but you do not have to buy that exact textbook). For me, I did not purchase a textbook and Im still passing her class by relying on her lecture
I took her online due to COVID and I have to say this is the best teacher I have taken in OCC. She is super nice and always shows that she cares. Her lectures are easy to understand when you pay attention. The exams are very straight-forward from her lectures. If I was majoring in BIOL, I would take her again and again and again!!!
COVID Fall20. Attendance not mandatory but participation comes from random Zoom polls/breakout rooms. Textbook not needed but sometimes I used it to help study. Most test material comes from lectures. You can tell she genuinely loves teaching and cares a lot. Learned so much from her- got a D in bio in HS, and perfect A in hers. Would take 100x ovr
I took professor Elliott during fall 2020 and she was amazing! By far the best teacher Ive had during remote learning; she really makes the online lectures so fun and engaging, and does a great job of explaining the material. There are a few homework assignments and 6 exams, which arent bad at all if you use her study guide! Would 100% take again
Had to take her class via zoom Fall 20. Ecology is intriguing as is but Kelli's approach makes it easier to understand and genuinely learn. She assigns just enough homework so you're actually attaining information, not overwhelmed with just trying to get it done.
Professor Elliot is an incredible teacher, even through the difficulty of teaching this subject online she manages to teach incredibly, her lectures are perfectly organized and she is always available to help the students when needed, she is also a genuinely kind and charismatic educator, 10/10 defiantly one of the best teachers i've ever had!
She's an absolute gem. I've taken her for multiple biology courses and every bit of information she conveys she seems to have a passion for. Unanimously loved by the entire class. I'd have her as a teacher for every natural science class if I could
You have to actually know the thing because there are nothing in the test that you can find on the internet. I thought I would have a B, but got an A in the end because I was freaked out and worked my heart out in the last weeks. Extra credit and participation really helped.
Professor Elliott is amazing! This was the first science course I took in college, and I'm super hyped about all of the bio I have to do for medical school now. I always felt like I learned something applicable and life-changing in her lectures, and she's great with questions.
The course is easy, but her tests were a bit hard. She gives out tests every 2 weeks and does not allow cheat sheets, so I would recommend taking notes and studying them but also reading the textbook.
Professor Elliot is great. She loves teaching which makes the class enjoyable and you always leave learning something new. Not much homework there was like four journal assignments that she gave clear formats for so those were easy. Attendance is important to success in the class.
Professor Elliot is nice. Her lectures and lab meetings are interesting, and you can learn a lot about Biology through this class. As long as you stick to the class schedule and work hard, the quizzes and exams will not be hard for you. You will get a good grade at the end.
Professor Elliott is a kind person. You can tell she genuinely loves to teach and is there for students. Her lectures are interesting and make you learn something new everyday. Her tests are all based on lecture so pay attention and take good notes. Overall, I would highly recommend her.
I absolutely love her. I genuinely loved her and her class. You can tell she loves what she does, and she's always there for her students. Tests can be a little hard, but again this is a bio class so that's expected when you're a stem major. I wish I was able to take more classes taught by her. a true GEM!
I actually took her for 185 and she's an amazing professor. Yeah, I have to make Quizlets for every topic we cover (I'm supposed to have 12 or so rn but I got behind on making them, so I have 10 instead and it's not even November yet), but I have learned so much from this class. Prepare to study and make hundreds of flash cards.
She is super caring and fun during class! The material is dense and involves a lot of memorization for species and clade names but overall is manageable if you space it out! Provides helpful study guides for practicals and exams. Exams are fair and on lecture material, so show up and write notes! Exams are multiple-choice + free-response section.
Her exams are weighted very heavy. I had 100% in every category, but a 70 in the exam category and ended the semester w a C! Not that she is a bad teacher bc the exams are very simple and easy, to be honest I just never showed up to the lectures, but I'm sure if you took notes this class it would be an easy A! good professor with solid lectures.
Island Ecology was an amazing class and the information although plentiful the lectures are EXCELLENT! Participation is expected and there are a few presentations which build for your future public speaking. The environment of the class is building togetherness and conversations on the subject matter are encouraged. Highly recommend this professor.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS if you are not a good notetaker. No clear material to study and read. PDF files are completely blank, only showing images. Her lectures are EVERYTHING (and ofc verbal information is inconsistent, difficult to retain and full of flaws). There is no quiz, but you have to attend lectures to get points from small classwork.
Professor Elliotts class is easy if you are good at taking notes and test taking. She is fun with how she teaches and explains stuff throughly. hands down one of the best teachers at OCC!
Shes passionate about this environmental science. 10/10 professor.
Pay attention to every lecture and take notes, this is one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. My main complaint is that she doesn't provide anything that fully outlines or details what might appear on exams when all her exams are based on verbal lectures. Become the most engaged student for 1.5 hrs in lec biweekly and you'll do fine.
Her class was fun ngl as long as you do your end of the bargain (work). She's very passionate, caring, and energetic and it made me enjoy bio for once. Although a flaw is there's no clear way to study for an exam, so you need to have your own methods to adapt quickly. She's very accommodating and understanding, so don't be afraid to communicate!
She is sarcastic and demeaning. Tough grader and her practicals are really difficult. The information she covers in the lab report is not what the practicals are focused on. Instead it is species name and characteristics and less labeling from a microscope. Multiple choice exams, but again she doesn't put the things she emphasizes on the tests.
The lecture exams are genuinely so difficult because of the way they're worded. She says you don't have to read the textbook, but do it. She talks really fast and lecture slides have few words on them, so be ready to type fast as heII. I don't recommend taking her class if you get bored in lectures easily or else you'll fail the exams for sure.
I can learn many things about nature. In lab, there're some trips. It's not far from OCC and she gave enough time. Also, around the midterm, you will go to desert and have one night trip. She will drive so don't worry. She has a lot of knowledge about nature. She is very easy grader. If you want to learn about nature Take this class.
Professor Elliott's class is challenging but engaging. Her lectures move quickly, so staying focused and taking thorough notes is a must. Try using unstuck AI alongside the provided study guides to prepare effectively.
Her exams never come from the ppt or materials in lecture. you need to fully understand every topic beyond what's covered in class for exam. And her lab sessions feel like art classes . you spend 2-3 hours just drawing, and then the lab is over. She's always smiling, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's friendly or kind to the students.
I love kelli as a person, super nice, but her exams/lectures are rutheless. Very much a oral lecture professor - no words on any of her slides. Plus, the exams are what she taught us but somehow much more in depth and more difficult. Very frustrating to study for. Her lab was hard as well, but at least you knew exactly what was going to be tested.
Guys, if you want to succeed in this course, do this: GO TO OFFICE HOUR if you can, and stay back after class to clarify any questions you may have. She'll explain everything to you. Her lecture will be very awful if you don't pay attention to it. She doesn't have a lot of information on her slides, so you must pay attention 100%.
Honestly, not too difficult of a class however your grade is the 3 exams. Even when you study it somehow doesn't matter as some questions are just very random and only someone who is specialized in ES would know. The average test score was a C- on every test. For ged it's alright. The teacher is caring, however, lectures can get boring.
Prof. Elliot is a great professor who is clearly very passionate about bio. 185 is an extremely difficult class and requires heavy study and work but she always makes herself accessible and is happy to help. Overall I really enjoyed both lecture and lab (which is a LOT of drawing!) but make sure to do the work. Study EARLY for exams & practicals!
lecture slides don't have a lot of writing, just pictures on them mostly but she is very knowledgeable. Only gives you a study guide for the first exam, and you're on your own for the rest of the exams. Overall good teacher and would take it again. You need to study A LOT if you want an A. I wouldn't take this with more than 2 stem classes.
I took this as one of my generals classes, its fine, its a lecture but it is definitely something you need to pay attention in, do ass of the assignments, study for the tests and you will be perfect!
Kelli is a super fun professor! Her lectures are really interesting and she is kind and informative. I recommend taking the honors portion, there's only an extra project that's not difficult at all. Tests are also very doable if you just study lecture notes. Attendance is taken through in-class Kahoots. I would definitely do it again!
Professor Elliott was probably one of the best teachers that I have taken at Orange Coast College. Her class is challenging for sure, with that said I would avoid taking more than 1 other stem class if you are taking her class. Its doable but at what cost. She is very passionate about what she teacher and she is really caring
Prof is very caring and understandable but the class is very rigorous and SUPER dense. Read every single slide and do lots of outside research on topics covered in class. Listen to every lecture. Only 3 exams worth 42% of grade while 50% is cumulative lab grade so do well in LAB! Get ready to study A LOT!
