Literally the worse professor I've had at cal. Her lectures do not have thorough enough conceptual explanations, and going to lectures became eventually useless so I watched Paulins lectures(which was 200% better). She also doesnt post practice tests, is super sarcastic on piazza, and was just really unapproachable. Just wait take it with Pualin...

She might be better at teaching 10b (according to some people) but she's terrible with 16B. She's is such a tough/picky grader. 16B shouldn't even be as difficult as she's making it. She's cold, unapproachable, and demeaning to her students AND GSIs. Probably one of the worst and most unreasonable professors I've had.

Horrible grader. Forces you to fail even if you have all the correct answers. I think she forgot that this is a math course for business and economics student that (generally) aren't interested in math. Her rubric is irrational and stupid. I lost more than 30 points for not including units and other trivial things. Avoid her!!!!

Without a doubt, the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Besides giving absurd tests that have no correlation to the actual 16b coursework, she is unapproachable, rude, and demeaning.

She's the worst teacher I have ever had. If she is the only one teaching the class during the semester you wish to take 16B, DON'T TAKE IT. Nothing she teaches/gives you on Webwork is applicable. The exam questions are harder than anything she will give you on any other platform. She's not even qualified enough to be a GSI. Avoid at all costs.

Honestly, WORST teacher ever. She has the most boring lectures and is a very dry person. Every time you ask about the midterms/finals, she'll say "whatever's FAIR GAME." The format and difficulty of her tests CHANGE EVERY TIME. Really annoying. Pick another teacher if you can. 10/10 WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND.

Really an awful professor. Does not care to help students succeed in her class. If you ask her any kind of question during office hours about what's happening on the midterm/quizzes, she'll respond sarcastically with "whatever's fair game." Told our class that she lost brain cells while grading our test because we did so poorly. Avoid or fail.

SO, Kelli has fantastic humor, but terrible teaching skills. She put all of us through hell. Lots of homework. I got a 5 on AB and BC Calculus exams, and took this class as a GPA booster, but it is quite the opposite. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. 0

Kelli cares more about "correct work" than solving problems. To some extent this is reasonable. Yes, showing work is good, but she has a terribly high bar for correct work that requires you to justify everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Even things that have LITERALLY NOTHING to do with the problem. It is IMPOSSIBLE to predict her grading rubric.

Kelli is the worst professor I have ever had. The math in math 16A should not be hard; it is equivalent to AP Calculus AB, but even if you got a 5 in AP calc, you probably won't get an A in her class. She focuses on the little things (ie: stating that FTC 1 applies in a certain problem). Even if you get the right answer you will still lose marks.

Please don't take this professor if you have the choice. Very unclear grading style, unfair quantity of homework, and will take off points even if you get the correct answer. This teacher taught me the invaluable lesson of always checking Rate My Professor before taking a class and not the other way around.

The professor is extremely insane on grading. She deducts points for silly mistakes or small vocabulary errors like not using the proper math word. She is not very considerate of her students and is very strict. I ended up with a higher grade relative to other students in the class but still very difficult. I do not recommend her at all.

Avoid this teacher. She is unkind to her students and makes comments such as you untaught me math. Her tests are unreasonably hard, she has lots of homework that wont help with said tests, and her version of math is not computation but word problems, T/F, and other complicated techniques to mix with math.

Math 16A/B series is supposed to be a relatively doable math class for students not planning on using advanced math in their careers. I took 16A/B with her for a full year and she made the course far more difficult than it needs to be. You're better off taking the Math 1 series as the professor (Paulin) is far more respectable and fair with grading

It would be an UNDERSTATEMENT to say that it was the worse decision of my life to take her class. Do NOT suffer. Do NOT take her class at ALL COSTS.

Some of the worst lectures I've sat through. She's very bad at time management and would often not finish her lectures by the end of class. She would give vague examples the scratched the surface of the homework and GSI quizzes. Talaska doesn't regulate difficulty evenly among GSI quizzes. Lots of homework and terrible explanations.

The worst and easily most unqualified professor to teach advanced mathematics. She's not fit to teach, is unorganized and inconsiderate. If you see her name affiliated with a class you're taking in any way, shape or form steer clear!

Drop the class ASAP.

Math 16A is the recommended beginners calculus course for many Freshman. Keli makes it WAY TOO DIFFICULT for anyone who has never taken calculus before. My friend had the same knowledge as me, close to none, switched to a different professor & passed w/ an A. SHE IS THE WORST. Her grading is ridiculous & she expects you to mimic her exact style.

One of the absolute worst profs at Cal. Not only is she rude, but is also extremely test-heavy and strives to make her exams as hard as possible. There is no curve either as your exam percentage is your curved score. I only took her was because the other 53 profs class clashed with another class I was taking. Definitely would NEVER recommend

She goes way too fast in lecture, doesn't leave time for questions, assumes everyone's understanding what she's saying and moves on to the next topic and changes the slide while you're still copying down the question, etc. Tests are hard, involve techniques that were not discussed in lecture. discussions and lectures aren't even synchronized.

The worst professor I have ever had. No personality and doesn't actually teach anything. Bottom line, a horrible professor and not a nice person. Run from this class. Do not enroll. Not accessible. Would give her 0 if it was possible.

Gives a lot of homework that doesn't correspond with what was taught in class. Examples she would show in lecture were no where near the level of difficulty of problems in the homework. Taught at an extremeley fast pace, not giving students enough time to write down adequate notes or gain a thorough understanding of material.

Worst professor I've ever encountered with. She gave out homework on what was taught in the next class, which means students would have to look up how to do it on their own in order to get 100% on the assignment. She left office hours early and did not thoroughly teach the content during lecture. Save yourself a headache and find a different prof.

Lecture difficult is irrelevant to the assignments and tests. You have no clear instruction or examples on 90% of the work expected of you. Horrible.

One of the worst profs I've had at Berkeley. Gives the weirdest tests ever, is extremely condescending, and just overall a terrible experience being in a class with her.

Absolutely horrendous professor. We had at least 1 quiz every week, and the homework is long and arduous. The grading criteria for homework and exams alike are unclear, ambiguous, and ultimately unforgiving. Prof OHs are useless and she s rude and condescending. If you want to save your GPA, go elsewhere. Stay away at all costs.

Quizzes every week, LOTS of homework. Exams were every 2 weeks. She's a great person, just a poor teacher. I had previously taken Calc 1-3 and did pretty well, but she teaches stuff out of order. It's mandatory to read the book before class. Lectures are just examples, no real explanations. She's very strict and likes math done the way she teaches.

It's almost impressive how she's "teaches" over 700 students and accommodates for nearly none of them. Tests are absurdly wordy and feel more like reading tests than math ones. Most of the class barely passed the first midterm despite taking/passing calc prior. Absolutely shocked at how rude and condescending she can be towards students during OH.

On top of absurd amounts of coursework and ridiculous multiple-choice tests, Kelli is condescending and completely inflexible. She seems unable to fathom that during this tumultuous time of Covid-19 and remote learning, her class may not be every students' top priority. Going to switch math tracks so I don't have to endure another semester with her

She is rude and condescending and does not care about you whatsoever. She single handedly changed my major when the worst grade Ive gotten before this class was a B. A test this semester had a hint on the question of how she wanted us to answer it but the correct answer we were supposed to write down was that the hint was incorrect. Horrendous

Kelli is a good person, but very inflexible as a professor. Her multiple choice tests are absurd. She is approachable in OH, though. Be prepared for lots of homework and quizzes every week. She is a strict grader and likes math to be done exactly as she dictates.

Dropped her course a day before the drop-deadline to take Math 1A with a different professor: best decision I could have ever possibly made. I am warning y'all considering her courses: DON'T! Math does not have to be as impossible and rigid as she makes it! Implied everyone who drops her class won't be successful. Not true at ALL!

Kelli seems like a very nice person, though she sometimes comes off very condescending in office hours. And, doesnt give much flexibility in terms of assignments. Her tests are very difficult, and she tests very theorem heavy. I got questions wrong on midterms because I solved questions a different way than she wanted and got no marks for it.

Professor Talaska is rather rude and condescending when students ask her questions. Additionally, she is an extremely harsh and unfair grader. Her questions are often ambiguous, but she needs you to put exactly what she wants or you will get no points. Even when students clearly demonstrate a thorough understanding, they do not get credit.

Kelli held mandatory lectures that focused entirely on definitions/examples when an entire multiple choice portion of her exam was conceptual. She was indifferent to technical issues and piled on with HW. Exams were ridiculous and as other reviews note, were graded on how well you did a problem HER method. It was never enough to get it right.

TAKE MATH 1A.

In taking Kelli Talaska's Math16A and Math16B, my eyes were opened to her easily-agitated, unaccommodating and unapproachable disposition. On numerous occasions, she was overheard making snide comments about students' performance and these behaviors were replicated by her GSIs. I strongly advise students against taking her courses.

I asked Kelli a very simple question on Piazza following the release of a midterm score. Her response was rude and blunt, and she essentially made me feel STUPID when she told me that my "small" mistake indicated that I didn't understand the algorithm or concept. A teacher or professor should never make their students feel stupid. Yikes Kelli...

Hardest math class I've ever taken & math has always been my best subject. She is very condescending (asked for clarification & she bluntly said my work "makes no sense at all"). Lectures aren't engaging (sounds like she's listing out the example). I studied for each exam a week in advance & still they were difficult b/c of serious time constraint.

If you're someone who doesn't like math and you're considering taking this to bypass Stat 20 for your major (like I did) DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am begging you to take the equivalent of Math 1A&B at your community college instead.

Don't take Talaska. Her lectures are unclear and confusing, her midterm is incredibly difficult, and she is not a very sympathetic teacher. The structure of this class is incredibly confusing; assignments have unclear expectations and due dates are constantly being added and changed. Overall, communication is lacking.

Kelli is 100% the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. She does not deserve to be teaching. I thought I knew how to do math, and then I joined her class and now I feel like I know less. She does not know how to teach and makes it so hard for her students. She has no sympathy for us and could not care less about us.

Her teaching method is highly inefficient. Not only does she present as an incompetent teacher, she continually disrespects and ridicules students for not being able to answer questions correctly or for doing poorly on exams. She creates a toxic learning environment, literally only saved by her GSIs. She has singlehandedly ruined math for me.

She is extremely passive aggressive and unhelpful. She doesn't seem to care about students at all and blames them for her own faults.

Terrible professor. Strict on your deadlines but constantly procrastinating herself. Half of our semester is graded on stupid true/false sets that are not helpful because she is too lazy to assign actual homework. Power abusive. Often cancels lectures at an hour's notice and doesn't upload recorded lectures until days later. Terrible experience.

This was a horrid class. I took Math 16B with Professor Talaska, and she made it unnecessarily difficult. There is no clear grading rubric, and she essentially docks for anything and everything. I once got marked down for using a "x" to show that I was doing multiplication, instead of using parentheses. She makes classes way more stressful.

Very unorganized. Exams are not fairly structured. Professor stopped giving us practice problems online so we had nothing to practice with and never posted textbook solutions like they promised. Can't learn from true/false, it just makes you second guess everything you know. Poor teaching, makes students feel dumb. DON'T TAKE CLASSES FROM HER!

TAKE MATH 1A or even retake pre calc first Im serious even if math is your best subject or youve taken multiple AP calc classes you will struggle because she makes everything harder than it needs to be. I have never seen a teacher stress out students more because of her sheer lack of preparation and consideration towards students.

Professor Talaska makes awful exams and will shame you for performing badly without recognizing her own faults. If the entire class is struggling, it's safe to say that the professor is probably the issue. She's known to be very condescending, and I imagine she'll be scoffing at this, but it truly doesn't take much to be kind to your students.

Definitely one of the worst teachers and professors of all time, both that I've had in my life and at Berkeley. Is an absolute MENACE to students: she's passive aggressive, doesn't answer questions with straight answers, and if you DO ask a question she'll be like "we covered this, you should know." Take 1A, Kelli is horrible.

Constantly sick, late, change deadlines, assignments, or cancels classes. Has a company called octopus math where she tutors math for money, may not be related but feels very sketchy, as she fails to meet any deadline for grading or responding, but still has energy to operate a business, seems to be maximizing profit with minimum effort cause.

This class moves insanely fast- you're expected to comprehend the various examples thrown at you during lecture by reading the textbook beforehand, which honestly barely helped me. This semester Prof. Talaska refused to tell us the average for the midterm because it was so low. Only take if you can devote 150% energy to learning the material.

Talaska lays out the format of the class very clearly so I'll give her that. I think generally she is a good organizer just maybe not the best at teaching. In this class you'll basically have to do the learning on your own. She just offers a brief review. Unless you're already really familiar with calc concepts, I wouldn't take this class:/

HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. Chronic procrastinator. Cannot take her word or rely on anything she says. Graded our midterm over a month after it was taken and said for weeks that it would have been graded earlier. Doesn't even give lectures sometimes and gives little notice. Rude, disrespectful of student needs, inconsiderate, and passive-aggressive.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Not only is she an unreliable lecturer (cancels all the time without notice), she punishes students for "not doing well" by not posting recordings, lectures, or notes. She is a terrible procrastinator, which reflects in her grading. Once lost significant points on an exam for writing "1.0" (correct sig-figs) instead of "1".

I normally don't write these reviews but I have to warn future students that she stood out as a harsh lecturer and grader.

Do not take the 10 series. She makes the material more complicated than it actually is and teaches it in a weird order. expect things to be posted late!! If you don't have any other choice, then take the Adjunct class with this class. It will be the only time you actually learn something even though it is an insane amount of work. rip to my gpa

Final grades were due 2 weeks ago and we still haven't received our grades for this course. She doesn't explain well in lectures, quickly moves onto the next topic, tests are absurdly hard, homework is not helpful. The 10B content is hard too. She does give some generous curves, but what's the point if everyones failing the tests. Take math 1A/1B!

Does she submit grades on time? No. Are the examples in lecture any help for preparing for midterms, quizzes and finals? No. Are the group projects fun and engaging/insightful? Never. Does she cancel class very frequently with short notice? Yup! Does she expect so much out of students only to return 1/100th of the effort? You bet. TAKE THE 1 SERIES

Class was designed very poorly, lecturer was always sick once a week and didn't teach, but still expected us to know the content, grades tests super late (midterm we took in February was graded a couple months later so we didn't know how well we were doing in the class), she doesn't really explain things that well either. Steer clear from Talaska.

Professor grades MSA's very tough with no explanation for what you did wrong, even looked up questions on mathway and my answers were correct; however, I received 0/5. Nice having no midterms and not mandatory HW, but honestly this class tests your knowledge of previous math experience because her lectures are very disorganized

She hates people, she only cats. She will do everything to make you hate yourself. She hates her job. Does the bare minimum. My worst mistake was taking this class. Avoid it like the plague.

Professor Talaska is someone who genuinely wants to help her students, and is having a hard semester exacerbated by the GSI strike. However, this class has been dysfunctional from the beginning. Kelli is consistently disorganized and unreliable, and is currently six weeks behind on releasing quiz scores. Only take if you know already know calc.

AVOID THIS CLASS LIKE A PLAGUE!!! She has no clear grading scale, is 6 weeks behind on exam grading, and won't respond to emails when ask for help. Everyone is on the verge of failing this course!

It's not 10A's content that's hard - it's Talaska. Aside from being a mediocre lecturer, she lacks transparency and fails spectacularly to uphold her responsibilities as a professor. Our mastery skills/weekly quizzes, modules, and homework have have not been uploaded/graded for more than a month. She lacks empathy and grades super strict.

This class is absolute chaos. The content is not difficult, but Professor Talaska's utter lack of organizational skills and empathy make it difficult. Going into the final, no one knows what their grade is because she is so behind on grading, and it is unclear if assignments will ever be graded. Avoid at all costs.

Math 10A content is not difficult at all, it is the utter lack of organization, respect for students, delay with grading, and so much more that make this course impossible to get through, all thanks to Talaska. We are days away from the end of the semester and we don't even have a grading scale, or anything to help us gauge our grade in the class.

Never take a class taught by her. The material is not difficult but her system for the class is horrendous. She was so behind in grading which made it so difficult. Its currently break and she still expects you to put in work for the class. I have no idea if I passed because her grading is so bad.

Watching youtube was more efficient for actual teaching than lecture. Use the posted class notes to figure out what formatting she likes (almost just as important to her as understanding the math). Class organization and grading system was confusing and frustrating, and so was her sarcasm and lack of sympathy. Wish I didn't have to take this class.

AVOID THIS CLASS!! The professor is straight-up praying for our downfall. Super unorganized, and never grades tests on time. Because of the strike, she should've been more lenient on the grading. Very nitpicky; if you did the problem right but your explanation is slightly lacking, you get a 0 on the test without a chance to fix your mistakes.

I would advise anyone who is considering taking a class with Professor Talaska to reconsider. Do not take her class. She makes it nearly impossible to succeed. Very, very rarely is she available outside of class (does not stick to office hours) and did not grade finals from fall semester until the beginning of spring. Very unreliable, inconsistent.

I attended almost all office hours that were available (when she didn't cancel them, as she frequently did) and often, when I asked a math related content question, I was greeted with the response: "Go back and look at the lecture." I wish Professor Talaska had even attempted to listen to my questions, or those of other students, but she does not.

Everything is made harder by the professor! She expects all students to show their work in ways that are not often taught/the norm-- it is often the way SHE intuits things, which is often oddly specific. Awful at updating grades, so no one knew what to retake until it was finals. Made us work through winter break!!

Ms Talaska was by far my least favorite math teacher at Berkeley. She had such a horrid grading scheme that whenever I think about how she managed to get it approved I gag a little. In addition, sometimes she was unnecessarily toxic towards students. One time, only after the lecture was over and the students left did she announce the homework.

DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT! Worst professor I have ever encountered ANYWHERE! She is insanely unorganized and can not give her students the bare minimum yet has VERY HIGH expectations from her students. She wants us to spend days studying for exams that she ends up canceling just hours before. Extremely frustrating and unreasonable

The class is very unorganized, and we did not even received a syllabus for Spring 2023. It is quite frustrating because she does not communicate with us and refuses to respond to emails; we only use EdDiscussion, and she deletes the comments she does not want to hear. The only thing keeping me going in this class is the GSIs. Do not take her class.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have never seen such incompetence and lack of respect for students. A syllabus was never given so the class felt particularly unorganized. Her lectures are unhelpful and uninspiring. She never alerts us about anything more than 24 hours in advance. She made me believe that I couldn't do math. Good riddance.

Avoid taking 10B with Talaska at all costs. 2 days before the final and our class still doesn't have a syllabus nor know the grade bins. Expect lectures and quizzes and discussion during dead-week due to Talaska's lack of organization, frequent canceling of classes, and disrespect for her students in deleting important questions students post to ED

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES. There is no syllabus, the teacher does not attend class with late notice, and the grading system is very strict and unforgiving. For first-year students take the 1 series instead. It is more work but the stress load is much more manageable.

Talaska is incredibly unreliable as a professor. She constantly screws over students with last minute changes, takes forever to grade, hasn't even posted answers to our quizzes for the last 2 months, and so, so much more. She will start the semester strong, but gradually she will get so much worse. I haven't met a student who doesn't hate her.

Classes got out a couple weeks ago, yet we still do not have our grade with very minimal updates and a LOT of promises that were not kept. Very frustrating to say the least.

I try to be patient and understanding of Dr. Talaska's personal challenges, but it is frustrating. Multiple unfulfilled promises of when to expect our tests to be graded/final grades to be released. No syllabus, cancelled and postponed office hours, poorly planned lectures, and unclear expectations for tests which make up nearly 100% of our grades.

I have no words for how awful the instruction and organization were for this course. Kelli Talaska will release your grades when the stars align and hell freezes over.

Please release our grades Kelli. It is mid July this is getting ridiculous :( All of us have a grade of 'Missing' in calcentral and we have not heard from you in over a month despite many of us reaching out for answers on ed discussion

I advise no one to take a class by her EVER! We took the final (to which she showed up late) over two months ago and we still have not received no grades, and she has been radio silent for those months. We received no syllabus, so we have NO CLUE what goes into our grade. This has to be against all rules. Absolutely unacceptable.

It's August 1st and we haven't received our grades from second semester math 10b.

Never take Professor Talaska. Save yourself and take something else or wait for another semester with a different professor!! She makes easy topics complex, has no syllabus, procrastinates, makes promises she can't keep, deletes questions when people ask, and is constantly "sick"

Worst professor I've ever had. We just received our spring grades, after months of zero updates. She never grades things on time, is late every lecture (or just cancels) and when she does grade, she's very picky. The content itself isn't difficult, she just grades so harshly and no textbook can help. This class made me want to rip my hair out.

Course material itself is not difficult. BUT. Professor is. 10A and 10B series is based on few points. Hit or miss. Do not risk.

The fact that the Cal math department had to send out an apology is indicative of Ms. Kelli's competence. After waiting almost 3 months for grades with little updates, no syllabus, and no hope, we received grades that didn't show the smallest amount of leniency. The cutoff for an A was a 95. No emailing is allowed. Any pointed questions: deleted.

Save yourself the trouble and do NOT take this professor.

There was absolutely NO structure in this class, and what made matters worse was the fact that she basically did not teach the class. I did not get to know my score on ANY assignment or exam until THE DAY BEFORE THE FINAL. She still has not finished grading our stuff for this semester; avoid her if you have the smallest chance to.

Before we took our first midterm, she had never released a single homework assignment. She is the hardest teacher to learn from and seems to have zero care for this class at all. I know so many people in the class and have not heard a single positive review.

Avoid taking this class and professor at all costs. She has never responded to a single email, assigned any homework or seemed to put any effort into the class at all. When it came to our first midterm, professors from different math courses were giving us problems and responding to our Ed discussion questions, without any assistance from her.

Skipped lectures for: "hurt hand, rolled ankle", and sick multiple times in just half of a semester. She has now been removed from teaching for a medical issue it says and another professor has taken over midway through. Only positives were syllabus said: non-cumulative final, test full page cheat sheets, quizzes graded out of 90%, midterm retake.

Kelli is the worst teacher I've ever had at Berkeley. She is late with her midterm grading, she doesn't respond to emails, she doesn't even try and most of all her exams having nothing to do with her teaching because she is too busy talking about her cats instead of lecture material. We don't care. Grade my exam on time. Unresponsive.

Couldn't be bothered to show up to class some days and never posted promised lecture notes or slides. Wasn't clear about class structure and never responded to emails, berated students who came to her OH to ask about this in person. She quit shortly after week 9 and left the GSI's to clean up after her.

i liked her style of teaching, the midterm was terrible, never graded it, she got replaced by a professor that I had last semester that was also terrible.

Worst professor I've ever had. The class was a mess -- she didn't give out homework nor post lecture notes like she said she would (her excuse for this was a hurt hand). Lectures were terrible. Extremely lazy and uncaring. The course was taken over by another professor who, along with the GSIs, had to clean up the extreme mess she left.

As a class, we suffered.

Avoid this class if possible. The professor was frequently absent, didn't provide lecture notes or assignments, and left the GSIs to pick up the pieces. Though the grading system had some perks, the overall experience was very poor. Thankfully, unstuckstudy was a great study aid to prepare for the exams.

No organization, no effort in classes, rarely lectures. I was very excited to take Math113 yet Talaska's class was a large disappointment. I should have taken the warning from everyone else's bad reviews of her, but now that I have taken her class, I can confirm that her teaching is indeed a 0/5.
