Kellie is one of the best teachers I've had at UGA. This class is pretty tough no matter the teacher but she was a tutor for so many years that she truly knows how to help students get better and really understand the material. She would make formula sheets to study for the tests and helped make this class easier than it should have been.
I love Kellie! If you ever need a good professor who is open, down-to earth, and sweet, PICK HER! She can tell you what your weak spots are and what to practice. She cares and goes out of her way in making sure you catch up and pass the class. She gives out study guides for you prior to a test. Plus, she is just energetic and cool. I love her!
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. TAKE HER. I am not confident in my math skills, but this woman made me believe I was good. She truly cares about her students. She is very thorough, and she is always willing to help. She gets grades back to you within a week. She does fair partial credit. I don't understand her she has not gotten an award at UGA. Wonderful.
Kellie is a good professor but she sometimes has an attitude and makes it hard to teach material in different ways if you don't get it the first time. There are some units that she is good at teaching, and others that she cannot break down and fail to make any sense. Beware of this!
Kellie is simply awesome. She is honestly the best math teacher I've ever had. She makes every topic and concept so easy to understand, and is willing to answer any and every question you have. She is so personable and funny, and I always looked forward to going to her class. She will make you question why people say this is the hardest math!
Kellie was by far one of the best math teachers I've ever had. One of the key parts of homework she assigns is feedback, letting her know what the class is struggling with so she can help everyone out. I would definitely take her class again if given the chance!
Probably one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She uses the homework questions that students usually have trouble with to teach the material, and show where students usually go wrong. It's still a hard class since it's Precalculus, but she really tries her hardest to make it easy. I got an A- in this class. Study, take notes. You'll pass.
if you have a chance to take her, take her. she is the best math teacher i've ever had, and despite pre-calc being tricky, her lectures were absolutely amazing. she is always ready to answer questions and is patient. her lectures cover every kind of problem from easy to difficult. take her if you can!!!!
Mrs. Sappington was a great math teacher. She was very clear in her lectures and really made sure that everybody got the material. She was willing to work on homework or lab problems that people had trouble with. Overall, she is probably the best math teacher I've ever had and I would strongly recommend her.
Kellie is awesome and REALLY down to earth. She's very involved in class and helps you with specific questions from homework, etc. She'll go out of her way to help a student and has great office hours. I was scared of pre-calc, but she made it more than manageable. Definitely take her if you can.
She is the best UGA professor I have had. I am not very good at calculus and calc 2 is not the easiest. she makes lectures very organized and not boring. covers all material on tests and quizzes. gives practice quizzes which are similar to quizzes. shes very caring about her student very helpful great connection to students
She was a very good professor. She made things very organized and easy to understand. She was also very relatable and understanding as a professor. She was very enthusiastic about her job and I liked that aspect about her.
Amazing and respected teacher. She is accessible outside of class and is ready works really hard to make sure that all of her students achieve their highest potential. It was a privilege taking her class
Great Lectures and great teaching style. One of the best math teachers I've had.
I truly enjoyed taking Calculus 2. This is one of the hardest subjects in calculus and somehow she is able to make it tolerable and easy to understand. She also works really hard to make sure that everything is organized. In addition, if you come during her office hours, she will help you a lot.
Best math teacher at UGA hands down. If you get the opportunity, take her. She cares about you not only doing well, but also understanding the material. If you go to office hours, she will sit down with you and wont getup until you understand what you came in for. Have taken her twice now and look forward to taking her again.
Kellie is fantastic. She's easy to pay attention to and explains things very clearly. She offered extra credit here and there, and gave the opportunity to replace the lowest test grade with the final grade. Also very funny and relatable, I want to be her friend tbh
She has a big ego problem and the stuff she teaches in class is not thorough enough. Actually her grasp on calculus 2 itself is not convincing. she has limited knowledge and she just teaches that. she gets mad if you ask a logical question
She is awesome! I highly reccomend her as a teacher for MATH 1113 since it is a weed out class. She makes the class enjoyable and sets you up for success. Fully prepares you for the tests. Posts all lectures and reviews on youtube. One of the best math teachers at UGA for sure!
She is a great professor and has the best method of teaching math I have encountered (in college). Math is not a good subject for me, but she was able to explain concepts and procedures that other math professors have never bothered to or never known how to do.
Pre-calc is A LOT of work, but if you put in the effort, it will show. I failed pre-calc in highschool but got an A here. Kellie is an awesome teacher and explains things very well. She gives a lot of partial credit on tests also. Her classes did much better overall than the other pre-calc classes.
one of the worst professor of math at uga, she is basically stats teacher but dept made her teaching pre-calc even thought she do not know how to teach pre-calc. do yourself a favor and please do not take her. she struggles in teaching the basic concepts and that makes it difficult to understand harder concepts.
I took Sappington back in 2017 and they are one of the best professors I've ever had. I'm a Junior right now and not a single professor has come close to the effort she puts into trying to teach, she now does videos, can often be caught at Walker's coffee shop for help and if you show her you're willing to pass she will bust ass to help you.
Met out of class. She really caress bout her impact at her job!
She is an amazing professor and learns from what students tell her they have trouble understanding. She is super kind and very good at explaining concepts to even those who were new to calculus. Pay attention, come to class everyday, and practice a lot to do well on her tests.
Kellie is an amazing Calc teacher! She was very good at explaining concepts and making sure students understood the foundational ideas that would help them understand the practice problems. Having taken calculus, the class was a refresher for me but helped give me a clearer understanding of calculus. She's open outside of class for extra help.
Sappington is great, but her delivery to her flipped class has many flaws. Watching videos with new material every night can get very confusing and hard to grasp. She spends the next day pushing us into groups and making us practice those concepts that we haven't been taught other than videos. If you do well with learning on your own, take it.
it's calc. There's no way to get around the material. Her class is flipped, so you'll be doing a lot of independent learning outside of class and practice in class. It's not an easy class, but she is a very fair professor. She wants to see you do well. She's also very funny. Not an easy A. If u work for it, you can get an A
I love kellie sappington. One of the more passionate teachers I have ever met. You can feel her passion for calculus from the moment you meet her. Kind of an oddball. The flipped class structure was a challenge for me. Between the at times lengthy videos and the practice problems, the class is a lot of work. I'd encourage self-starters to take her.
She is a solid choice for Calc 1, would def take again. Calc in itself is hard but she does it best. Her classroom was flipped though, meaning we watched videos online, and did practice probs in class. Don't miss class!! It's very fast paced and a new topic everyday, but that's how Calc is. She explains well and her extra credit really helped me.
I really could not recommend her enough.
Kellie is amazing! She is so caring and understanding and tries to help her students in the best way possible. It is a flipped classroom style and you watch short videos at home then do problems in class. She is very good at explaining the content and is very clear about grading on tests. Tons of opportunities to do well. Best calc professor by far
Kellie was such a great calc teacher! Super chill and very good at explaining all material. Thoroughly enjoyed her class.
Best math teacher I have ever had. Flipped classroom set up. Homework takes max of an hour - watch videos of each unit, with guided problems and have problems on your own. Then you go to class and workout problems groups and she helps. Her text book is a treasure super clear, and tests are straight forward. Look at syllabus on the bulletin. :)
Kellie is a solid choice if you are already strong in math she is kind but can be petty if she feels you are not putting in your best effort. She kind of knows who will stay in the class and will move on and focus on the stronger students but weak students are left more to fend for themselves. Beware. This is a flipped classroom, HW is long.
Kellie is one of the friendliest professors I've experienced. She is very thorough and understanding. The flipped classroom worked well and she explained any questions we had very well. The tests and grading was very fair if you remain involved.
I took her for Calc I, and I would say she is the best choice. Unlike other professors, she created a workbook filled with her worksheets and the textbook is not used. She did so flipped learning which wasnt fun at first. The videos and assignment dont more than an hour. Tests can be hard, but if you study an average amount you should get an A.
Kellie is THE BEST! I am by no means a math person at all, but the way she runs her class with the workbook (that she helped write - aka the videos you watch are hers and she can answer any question) made it so much easier for me to understand! Her class is very collaborative and you work in groups, but she is so encouraging and amazing with this.
I loved the structure of prof. Sappington's class. You watch a lecture (usually 10-30 mins), do the hw, and have a 5-10 min quiz at the end of each week. She's very helpful with answering questions from the hw and the tests are very reasonable. Of course calculus won't be an easy class, however Sappington makes it as easy as you can.
Overall Prof. Sappington makes Calc 1 doable. You have video content you must watch on each section then complete a hw assignment based on it. Quizzes every weekend that are not that bad. You also have 3 exams, which are fair.
I had a rough start to the semester due to personal reasons and Im pretty sure Kellie hated me at first (I even considered withdrawing from it), but I managed to catch up and made an A on all of the tests and quizzes. Kellie taught the class in the form of a flipped classroom, which was a little annoying and we had a lot of HW, but I liked her.
She's very kind and she will work with you if you have any questions on any subject that you have trouble with. Just a few quizzes, multiple homework assignments that will help you prepare for the test. Don't sweat too much on the plain grade if you take the class online as she hasn't graded your handwritten work yet which will boost your grade.
She's a very nice lady most of the time, but strangely when you ask her things individually she's usually very short and comes off as a bit rude. As for things like quizzes, they're on the weekends, easy, and open note. Tests on the other hand, sheesh. Nothing like the quizzes whatsoever; filled with the hardest topics those chapters have to offer.
Grades are hw, 2 tests, quizzes, and a final. You defo need to put work in managing to learn the material and doing the hw. Math isn't my strong suit but as long as you put effort, you should be fine. Her groupme is top tier as she relates to her students and tries to understand her student's mental stability. calc 2 is hard but shes a kind soul.
For the most part, this class was okay. Sappington had a lot of useful videos posted for us. I recommend you print the worksheets that go along with her video assignments and watch the videos and follow along. She went over homework problems during lecture which helped a lot. A little bit passive aggressive at times, which is my personal pet peeve.
One of the most understanding teachers i have ever had, especially during the pandemic. She's always willing to listen to the class's concerns and issues and had changed the schedule at times as well to accommodate us and give us breaks after tough exams. 100% the best math teacher I have ever had or will ever have
This class is group work and test heavy. She is a tough grader and is not helpful in class. Tests are focused on one section in the unit, and people either make a 92 or a 33 on them. If you have a question, her answer is almost always short and rude, and, finally, if you do not like flipped classrooms then DO NOT take this class with her.
If you are not the best person at math, do not take her. If you try and ask for help she will be sarcastic and just go on a rant instead of answering your question. And if you do poorly on an exam, and want to voice your concerns, she will put her phone on do not disturb after handing out exam grades. She also canceled class randomly a lot.
She was a bad choice from the get-go. Her class style is flipped, and when you show up to class she makes everyone get in groups and does not teach a single thing. It was scary asking her a question because she replied very rudely. Very lazy grader too and requires upload of hw, quizzes, and exams on OneNote. Overall really bad experience...
Best calc professor. She gives credit as much as she can, and is very understanding. She can come off as passive-aggressive at times but she's still awesome. Her class is flipped, meaning we learn the content with preclass assignments and practice it in class. This class isn't an easy A though. If you attend class and pay attention, you'll be good.
Awesome math teacher in general. Decent amount of homework but if you come to class where she usually explains concepts in a way most people can understand and you finish your assignments in and out of class, you'll do fine in the class. Quizzes are easy, some tests are easy and others are hard, and the final isn't easy so study hard for that.
She does not give 2 shits. A's for everyone!
be prepared to never know your grade. she puts no grades in. I could be failing or succeeding, I dont know. it is also a flipped class so you watch videos and are super confused. then you go to class. she also makes you do worksheets but never gives you the answer so you could be doing it wrong this whole time. she is knowledgeable though.
Kellie is easily the best math teacher I've had at UGA. She makes it very easy in class to understand what is going on but be careful because you can fall behind very quickly if you don't do the homework.
Good professor overall, uses interactive workbook on OneNote instead of a textbook, preclass assignments were taught by a different professor so it got a bit confusing when she does something in a different way in class, very chill professor who loves football. Calc 2 is a hard class in general, so it will be hard no matter what professor you take.
Kellie is a really great teacher, and she will do right by you if you do your part. Make sure to go to class and stay engaged, she's tutored Calc for a long time and she knows what she's doing and she's very willing to help. She knows Calc 2 is inherently difficult and she will do her best to help you succeed if you put in effort.
I would likely not take Calc 1 with professor Sappington again. The content often felt inaccessible to me as someone who often struggles with math because she had a tendency to be very short and almost condescending when I had questions. She absolutely knows her stuff, but if you're someone who doesn't love math, I'd recommend someone else.
If you don't do things exactly the way she wants you to, you'll lose an unreasonable number of points. Class meets 4 times a week, homework nearly every class. Need to ask a question in class? Sure! But she'll be condescending and snide about it. I guess she just doesn't understand that not everyone likes calculus (shocker). Never taking her again!
One of the best math teachers you can get. She uses the flipped method which I personally like. The workbook you get is awesome and great for review.
You can tell she is a very knowledgeable and experienced teacher, but she is often not understanding and rude. The classroom is FLIPPED and asking questions is difficult bc she gets frustrated with you for not understanding something you had to teach yourself. Tests are like 6 questions and she will take so many points off for notation.
I failed my first test and after looking over it 80% of the points I lost were because I didn't write the answer in the exact format she wanted. Math was completely correct -- don't understand why this was necessary. Does not give extra points or curve anything because "there was nothing wrong with her test".
Will not give you the benefit of the doubt and if you do not devote every second of your time to her class, you deserve the grade you get. You have to be good at math to take her class. I was good at math throughout high school, but she has kind of ruined it for me. Just take someone else who is a little more reasonable and wants you to succeed.
Honestly, MATH 2250 isn't that hard of a course, and it becomes much easier if you take it with Kellie. People are right, she is strict and can be quite harsh during class time, but trust me she's the best option. She gives loads of extra credit during exams (raising grades by an entire letter or two) and makes the grading criteria extremely clear.
I think Sappington was a great professor this semester. Calc is hard, it's not meant to be an easy course. She is definitely an expert. This class is test-heavy, so prepare well for the tests. She grades the tests pretty harshly, but the extra credit helps out a lot(around 10-15 points on test 2,3,4).
Kellie Sappington is a gift from God himself. I am honored to be able to have taken her class. BEST teacher ever. Tests were difficult but other than that she was amazing in every way. She was constantly helping me to learn the information and was never mean when I asked for clarification. I would 100% recommend her or her friend Jennifer Royal.
THE BEST math teacher you'll ever have. Mrs. Sappington devotes her career to teaching and has developed lots of the materials used by the math department. Homework is light for a math class, and class time is used very efficiently. Tests aren't free A's, but the difficulty is comparable to her practice problems so work them and you'll be fine.
BEST calc 2 proffessor at uga. she can be intimindating at first, but she cares so mcuh about what she teaches and really knows her stuff. take her if u can.
I love Professor Sappington I took her for both calc 1 and 2. It's a flipped class which was very beneficial. She knows what she's talking about and is a lot of help when you have questions. While she is a tough grader on tests, she clearly lays out what she expects from you and gives a lot of extra credit. If I could take her for calc 3 I would.
Calc 2 is just a hard class but she is a good teacher and gives you your best shot of doing good in this class.
Genuinely a great teacher and makes calc 2 manageable. She does a flipped classroom where you watch pre-recorded lecture videos/example problems and then do practice problems during class. Her tests are very fair; if you do your homework/classwork, you will do fine on the tests, plus, there's always extra credit on the tests.
Lots of grading leniency and she explains everything quite well. She obviously wants her students to succeed, and puts in the work. Generally nice, but she can be kind of scary :)
She was a very good professor, but I don't like flipped classes. The amount of pre-class videos were very hard to deal with sometimes. She was gracious with allowing students a second attempt on each of the gateways (quizzes), and she provides a lot of study/prep material. I recommend her, but don't take her if you don't like flipped classes.
very good professor, but if you don't like teaching yourself through the flipped classroom model she definitely will not work for you.
There is a mandatory workbook. Homework practically every single day with multiple videos per day. She lets us take the quizzes twice and takes the highest grade. Lenient grader, tries to give you as many points as possible. If you can't learn by yourself, take a different professor. She's nice and the way she weighs her tests are very favorable.
Professor Sappington is the BEST in the math department. After struggling a TON in MATH2250 for a first time. Professor Sappington made the class bearable and the content a lot simpler. The class IS FLIPPED, so be prepared to stay on top of your pre-class assignments. I promise it is worth it if you can bear the harder tests and long studying!
Kellie was amazing to have as a calculus professor because she taught us not only how to understand calculus at a core level(proving identities, solving a problem in multiple ways, etc.) but also taught us how to do well on the final specifically, as it is given by the department. People dislike her because of her tough grading, but it helps you!
Very good professor especially for a difficult class like calc II. The class was flipped with time to complete most work in class until the end of the semester when classes became more lecture-heavy for more complicated units. Tests are fair with extra credit no curve. My only complaint would be her often misunderstanding questions that I asked
Kellie is pretty rough on the outside but an amazing teacher. Just do your work and don't get behind. Class is flipped so you just do practice problems in class with the people at your table. Tests could be hard but she always told us exactly what topics were on them so you knew exactly what to study.
She can be rude at times without realizing it, can be very demeaning as well, which can discourage students from gaining a love for the subject she teaches.
Prof. Sappington is very passionate about math/calc. Her class is sometimes challenging, but it's all for your benefit. Some reviews call her rude, but I would describe it more as tough love. She just wants the best for you, and that's reflected in her fairly lenient assignment weighting system. Just do the assignments before class. Fairly nice.
I took this class Spring 2024 and I am convinced with a different professor I would've gotten a way worse grade. She explained concepts amazingly well, to the point that I would easily say I would be prepared for Calc III. Just make sure to pay attention in class and come to class on time. She made Calc II feel like basic addition at times.
This professor is not for you if you are naturally not good in math. If you do take her class then your questions will not be answered and you will most likely get disrespected. She gets unreasonably annoyed if you don't understand what she teaches for the first time and ask questions, she can respond rudely. I recommend look for other instructor
GREAT choice for Calc 2! Math isn't necessarily my strong suit, especially compared to some of the other students in the class, but her class is very well-taught with a helpful grading system. She is very nice and is always willing to help you if you're stuck. Save yourself a bad experience and take her class
yet another amazing semester with Kellie Sappington. 10/10. Homework every night but it's a flipped class so it's mostly watching videos, then just a few problems to do on your own. Very clear about test expectations, and a bonus question is on each test for up to 15 EC points. Weights the tests in a way to give you the best grade possible.
Sappington was one of the best professors I have had at UGA. Her class is hard, but if you go to class and do your homework, you should be fine. She can sometimes be a little harsh with how she responds to students, but she truly wants whats best for you (as long as you show that you are trying). She kept me engaged almost every single day.
Please stay away from this lecturer if you want to do well. Many better professors and lecturers.
Sappington is great. I struggled a lot in Calculus 1, but she made Calculus 2 so simple. Her pre-class videos are concise and clear. She is very kind with her grading system and her tests are fair. Almost all questions on tests have been done in class. Take home quizzes are great review and helps boost your grade. There is no better professor.
I truly believe that if I would have taken a different professor I would be failing CALC 2250 right now. Kellie can be tough, but the way she grades makes the class awesome. You get up to three attempts to pass an outcome, and if you pass 33/34 outcomes you get an A in the class. I recommend taking her if you are scared about CALC.
Very difficult grading and short temper regarding questions, but overall pretty funny and makes concepts easier to understand. There's a quiz nearly every week and about an hour of homework before each class but it makes the classes themselves go by pretty easy. Much easier for people who've taken calc before.
Flipped classroom, quizzes every week are pass/fail (ES/PN). She is NOT lenient at all with the quizzes and will fail you for every outcome for missing the tiniest thing. Only grades in the class are quizzes + outcomes/workbook(completion) + final exam. Final course grades are A,B,C,D,F, no +/-, grades are subjective and to her discretion.
Best prof I've had so far.
