Great teacher, high expectations but breaks things down well. Frequent quizes keep you on your toes. Lots of study material posted on the web...very helpful. Grades on a curve for all tests except the final. I would take other classes from her.
she is awesome and really, really nice. She will go out of her way to help anyone and if needed, will give extra credit. She is the best teacher I have ever had, however, her quizes are hard, so study up. She always grades on a curve and will let you take a quiz on your own time. Great teacher, highly recommend her, should be full time, not part
I find that she is a nice person but I don't like the late notice of asignments she seems somewhat unprepared with that and it is difficult to be on top of this stuff when you things don't get posted until the day of the lecture. Test are difficult but she is great at grading on a curve and helping with that. Only problem is the asignement posting.
Kelly is a doll. She's hard, her quizzes and midterms have kicked my butt, but you can tell she wants you to do well. And she wants to get better asa professor. She is very fair, and will take extra time if you need it. I'm very excited to take a class with her again next term.
I took her class at 10 am. It was a fifty minute class and at least once a week she was late - usually about ten to twenty minutes. The first test was fine, but the second she prepared us for and then borrowed one from another professor last minute. Most of the class bombed it. She is a horrible lecturer - bouncing all over the chapters. Avoid her!
Kelly is really a cool lady, I had her for Forest Habitats and she really knows her stuff. She expects students to learn a lot, but she is very helpful in getting you there. Great sense of humor, not too strict, and her tests are well rounded. Some multiple choice and written answers, some hard, some easy.
i love kelly, she is an AMAZING person, but dear god she should not be a teacher.
Had her for BI211-213. She knows her stuff and is willing to work with you to help you understand. Her tests are hard and more concept-based vs. rote memorization. Sometimes she's a little unorganized, but she certainly keeps lectures interesting & animated. She gives extra credit -- always a plus! Study hard & pay attention. You'll do well.
Kelly is an awesome teacher and she makes sure that the assignments given out will help you. She is very understanding and willing to work with you if you show the initiative!
She really knows biology! She lectured daily off of powerpoint presentations, had a couple of in class worksheets. Tests are hard and you must attend lecture and study if you want to pass this class. Had to do a presentation at the end of the term with a group. This class is challenging, but if you continue with bio, I suggest you take Kelly.
Average. She's a good teacher, but terribly unorganized. Not too easy, not too hard. And she's chill and fun, which is a plus.
If you want a full time job then take Kelly, if not take another teacher. The work load was so ridiculous. Kelly is the nicest person in the world, however she is the most disorganized, scatter brained professor I've ever had. She'll fill your brain with so much information that you won't know what to do with it. Take someone else.
I love Kelly! She is extremely helpful if you just ask her to be. She explains well and is very passionate about her work! There are a lot of fun projects in class, and weekly online quizzes that are really helpful. I totally reccommend her!
Great teacher.
This professor is the worst! Anything you talk about in class leads to her life and she always use her family as an example. She blabs/mumbles on about nothing 10 mins after the discussion. Her test are hard even when you study. Tons of work due in short amount of time. Quizs every week in lecture and lab. I would never take her again!
She is really nice. She goes through Powerpoints really fast and says "okay" a lot at the end of her sentences. She is funny too.
For a teacher who teaches at a community college, her scattered brain and unorganized self was expected. Her tests are very difficult for someone who teaches straight from the book. She overloads on work and loses HW/quizzes and you won't get it back for about 2-3 weeks. You won't know what you got right or wrong until the next exam.
Overall an ok teacher. She is very disorganized! Uses email alot so if you don't check it and print out what is needed for class she isn't very forgiving. Still tries to help you out when you ask. Weekly quizzes, tests don't seem to follow what was taught, and long lectures. No real lab reports, just attendance. Ok teacher overall.
Funny and interesting teacher. First term she had all the powerpoints notes available online as a word document so easy for note taking. She is however VERY unorganized even though she's trying to get better! She is also lazy so it happens to cancel quizzes. She talks A LOT so we missed some chapters because of lack of time.
I really liked Kelly, but she is a terrible teacher. She'll give you the most amount of work in the shortest period of time and then fall behind on her own workload. You should not take her as a teacher.
Kelly is nice, but she is unorganized and scatter brained. I had her for just the lab portion but the amount of work was hard to keep up with and there was a quiz every week. We got hardly any work back, so none of us had a clue on how we are doing in the class. Her teaching style also did not work for me, unfortunately.
Kelly is a hard teacher but fair and very willing to help! Her tests are hard but she offers a lot of extra credit. She is a fair grader and a very nice person.
Kelly is very nice, but she is not very helpful at all! She is unclear about assignments. She doesn't respond to emails and she bounces around in lab lectures. I would not recommend her as a teacher!!! I can't wait to get out of her class!
Nice person. Horrible teacher. Disorganized. Unclear. Tests are not on the material she lectures on. Didnt hand back papers on time and often not at all! Doesnt respond to e-mails. Over half of the lab class she taught dropped. I am surprised that PCC keeps her on as a teacher.
She is a great professor but lots of work.
Kelly lectures off of powerpoints which you should print out and bring to class to take notes on about the random other info she lectures about. Not too interested in students "learning"- more interested they memorize text verbatum for bizarre tricky multiple choice portions of exams. Extra credit available (Thank God). Nice person. Bad Teacher.
For a class that is supposed to be for non-science majors, she requires a lot! Her tests were horrible and if you did not do the questions for each chapter, you were screwed.
Yup...I have to agree with the concensus view here, she is extremely nice but she is as unorganized as hell. You have to pay extremely close attention and even then the tests are HARD. However, she knows and loves her subject. If you like BIO, take her. If you're just doing it for credit requirements (like me), take someone else.
Kelly is a decent teacher. She was a little disorganized, but it was due to having to teach some classes for other teachers. The projects she assigned were brutal. One for lecture and one for lab, seriously? For something that in depth, there should only be one project.
I really dislike science, but if you make it seem like you're interested in it, Kelly will surely be more lenient with your grade. Just study her powerpoints before the quizzes and tests, and go to all the lectures and labs and you'll easily pass. I didn't open the textbook the whole term and got an A- in the class.
As previously stated this class was difficult. Kelly does go off on tangents about kids, or stuff you'll learn later. However, She is one of the best teachers I've had for recognizing her mistakes and not blaming you. If you're a little behind or forget something she will try to help You out, Very fair. Awesome person I think and I learned A LOT!
Her lecture's were all over the place, slideshows poorly constructed and often left off things that were you were expected to know for the Course Learning Objectives. In my opinion, one should be able to attend the lecture and have a very good idea of what to expect for the exam but this was not the case.
This class was difficult! The tests were hard because of "application level" questions. Kelly does allow notes on tests/quizzes and extra credit as well. She takes a long time to grade things and get it back to you. The assignments were time consuming but did help to learn the material. Overall, Kelly was okay.
Kelly is very knowledgeable in her subject and is happy to spend extra time to explain things to you. The class can be difficult and requires you to read and study the chapters and concepts (but this is expected for a college level science class). Good lectures and she offers extra credit and chances to do test corrections for extra points.
While yes she is very knowledgeable, Her powerpoints are incredibly unhelpful and disorganized! She gets off topic, and while with Biology related subjects, they are not helpful to the class. Because of this her lecture was almost a whole class period behind the lab! We ended up learning things in our lab before she even mentioned them in class!
Biology 101 is a 40 hour a week job with any teacher you take at PCC (Sylvania, that is). The study time and work load is ridiculous. Possible? Yes. Got extra time on your hands? Probably not.
Uncompassionate, impersonal, extremely difficult, and intimidating are a few words that come to mind. She barks instructions and curriculum at students like a drill sergeant, at a pace and familiarity of the subject similar to a professor at Harvard instead of a community college. Despite my love of biology, I had to withdraw to protect my GPA.
Kelly's quiz was extremly hard. 1st quiz was all about the most complex genotype and their possibility. She didn't have practice questions before the quiz. For some of the questions, you can only guess the answers. Quiz questions were much more difficult than the questions in the textbook. She prevented you to get good grade.
This teacher is the worst I've ever had in my years at PCC. Her syllabus is from 4 years ago, so the dates don't line up at all. Very confusing to try to navigate the due dates on top of the labryinth of information she makes you know (down to the very smallest detail). EXTREMELY bad teacher.
Like any class, if you work at it you will learn tons!!! Kelly is very helpful. She is always in her office during office hours where you can have one on one discussion for clarity. Sometimes her lectures are really fast and hard to follow but she is there to help and the book clears up any uncertainties.
It's amazing how in college you're expected to learn most of the material by yourself. I usually go to class and work my butt off. It's amazing how I get A's and B's that way! By and far Kelly is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Biology is a tough subject though and not for everyone. She makes it fun though.
Take many of the others advice and avoid her. She should not be teaching college level biology
felt nothing like an intro course and the project was rediculous. tests were hard, subject wasn't greatly covered. awful class, never thought I'd hate biology. My lab teacher was much better.
She is off putting at first because she comes across as very serious. She doesn't exactly spice things up but if you are actually interested in biology she will go as in-depth as you ask her to on ANYTHING. I think she knows everything. She is incredibly smart and interesting, making class discussions incredibly insightful.
Biology is a hard subject, but Kelly is an awesome teacher. She does a good job of explaining everything that has to be covered in the course. She is understanding, but don't blame her if you didn't get a good grade because you did not do your work. She teaches college level courses and expects her students to be responsible adults.
Took Kelly for both 101 and 102. Absolutely loved her class. She is fun, and really knows her stuff. She really wants you to succeed, and is more than willing to help if you ask. One of my favorite professors!
Recommended! Not easy, but straightforward A. I learned A LOT in her class. Smart, can usually answer any questions in class. Most of the difficulty comes from 'short' answer test questions which are all multipart and long. They feel hard but she grades them fairly easy. She's very good about making the requirements clear. DO THE CLOs!
Bad - Bad - Bad. Very vague, always off topic. Do not take her - you will be very sorry.
Tough as nails, but Kelly obviously knows her stuff and loves it. Very available to students for extra help, very patient in explaining things. I'm majoring in biology and she's been very helpful in helping me figure out where to go and what to do next! Don't take Kelly if you're not okay with working hard and serious about biology though.
Kelly is ridiculously smart -but she's not good at bringing the hay down from the loft for those without the same knowledge base that she has. She fluently uses complex biological terms, and before one can be processed, BAM! there's 3 more thrown at you. It's easy to get lost and glaze over during her lectures for this reason.
Kelly is both intelligent and pleasant. The problem is that her time management skills and organizational skills are lacking in the extreme. Rarely does she get to covering all the chapters in lecture, but expects students to have info that was only included in lecture. Rarely is it clear what is due and when it is due or what grade was given.
Don't recommend taking this class if you've never had any previous Bio and Chem experience (as was my case). This course moves at a rapid pace and is conducted with the assumption that you have the background knowledge to succeed in this class (which I did not). Kelly doesn't always reply to emails but is very available to help students.
Kelley is HARD! But if you are taking bio 211 and expect an easy class change your major. You have to work for your grade. This is college people! She is extremely smart and Is trying to prepare you for university level major courses. If you are not used to studying at least 15 hours a week, look away. If you want to be challenged, sign up.
Never starts lecture on time....(avg. 15-30 min late) Very unorganized, don't expect to ever get any graded homework, quiz's, papers, or tests backs for reviewstudy. How did I do on my three scientific papers for 211, 212 and 213? I have no idea. Test's are the hardest tests I have ever had to take. She asks the most ridiculous questions.
Very bad time management. Never prepared. Expects you to know every last detail in book and more! Lab instructions never clear, everyone's walking around like zombies not knowing what to do. 212 grade based solely on lab final which was very difficult and unorganized. Exams very tough, half essay questions, half trick multiple choice questions. BAD
Kelly was awesome! I really enjoyed her lectures and the passion she displayed while lecturing. Even when I was dead tired and wanted to sleep her enthusiasm kept me interested and awake. She is way smart and really funny. I definitely recommend taking her.
Worst tests I have EVER TAKEN in my life! Never have I been required to memorize so much detail. This class is just a ton load of stress. Kelly is good for talking to outside of class, but she is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. Please listen do not take her. She will NOT reply to your emails. She will fail you and not care.
I loved taking class from Kelly. She's hilarious and treats you like an adult. The class itself is extremely difficult and her tests are a pain, but it's college. If you don't put in the effort, don't expect to get a good grade. She's extremely knowledgable about the subject and passionate about climate change. Definitely would take again.
her lecturing style did not work for me or prepare me for tests. test questions were tricky and glossed over in class. do not know my grade on most assignments or receive any feedback. to pass her class you will need to memorize the entire lab manual, textbook and study guide. her class was a waste of my time money energy and lowered my gpa
Here are a list of things of why I do not like Kelly. Does not reply to emails, does not tell you your grade, UNORGANIZED, brags about her tests being so hard, her tests are WAYYYY too hard, does not return quizzes/homework, treats her class like its beyond college, requires us to remember every last detail in the book, boring lectures/labs.
Do not recommend. Very hard test, talks super fast during lecture, jumps around a lot, and disorganized. This was my hardest class out of all the classes I have taken in college.
First quiz was D2L and no one completed it on time (gave too little time). Second quiz was subjective and literally a coin toss on 1/3 of the multiple choice. Tests have questions where you have to memorize minutia of sidebars in the text. She is more interested in making tests tough than in teaching core concepts.
Kelly is a bit disorganized, but she provides everything neccessary. Biology is tough, if you have no interest in the material. She is a proponent of conceptual knowledge, just just memorizing terms so you can dump them out for a quiz or an exam. Her "Course Learning Objectives" are a lot of work but are a HUGE help as a concept study guide. 3
Kelly is a real gem. She's extremely challenging but she's fun and very intelligent. Can be a little disorganized but has a solid teaching style for people who want to think critically instead of just memorizing facts. If you are trying to actually learn and understand the material and not just pass a class, I highly recommend.
She excepts you to know EVERYTHING. Everything from climate change to biology to organic chemistry. She makes an undergraduate class feels like a doctorate. Her assigned homework and labs are very unclear as to when they are due. All the students vent to each other after class about how we're so confused on what we're supposed to be doing.
Kelly is a really sweet person to chat with, but she's not that great as a professor. I had a hard time focusing / keeping up with the pace of her lectures, since they were packed with a ton of information. I found myself falling behind within the first week of class. If you pick up things easy, then take her class, but if you're like me, don't.
Kelly has a sweet down to earth personality but her teaching could use some help. Not only do her lectures go over the class time, but she assigns way too much homework and does not make it clear what it due and when it's due. Her quizzes and tests are very difficult and hard to comprehend. Don't condemn yourself.
she is very strict when it comes to attendance and homework. All her test and quiz questions is hard to comprehend. Unless this class is required or the only option, I wouldn't recommend.
She does a great job teaching and clearly knows all of the information. She often runs out of time during lecture and doesn't cover all material needed for tests. Reading the textbook and outside sources is very important. Overall, a great teacher but a lot of outside work needed to do well and there are 3 tests total and 2 end of term projects.
I would not recommend taking this course with Kelly. While she is a very nice person, her teaching style is extremely disorganized. There is virtually no communication, and there was confusion throughout the entire course. Her grading criteria needs to be more detailed. She always goes over time with the lectures rarely teaches during the lectures.
Kelly is nice as a person who knows her stuff, but her class was highly disorganized, had poor communication, unclear expectations, and lots of busywork. The weekly online quizzes were long and detailed without adequate time given to complete them. Assignments were rarely graded in a timely manner and she gave very little actual feedback on work.
Kelly is an overall nice lady however, she is extremely disorganized. She is frequently all over the board and during weekly zoom lectures she went over time and would frequently not relay all important information. She is NOT timely in her feedback including emails, homework submissions, and test submission. I basically taught myself this course.
I would ask for help often and she would tell me to look in provided material, or most often, not even respond. At the beginning of the term she offered two textbooks one that was free and one that was over 100 dollars, they are extremely different but she didn't tell us that until halfway into the exam. I withdrew from the class, it is terrible.
Online classes require good organization from both the student and the professor. It does not matter how organized you are as a student, this prof is a disaster. No clarity in expectations, lecture materials are posted in triplicate w/ wrong dates, study guides introduce new material, prof rarely checks email, and there's huge amounts of busy work.
Kelly is a very nice person, but avoid her as instructor. As many others have mentioned, she is a very disorganized instructor who needs to be reminded by other students of her own deadlines for assignments/ quizzes. There were many times where her quizzes felt rushed. I never got my grade back for the paper or my final exam, which is nice I guess?
Though Kelly is nice, she was the least organized teacher I have ever had. There was absolutely no feedback on assignments and took very long to reply to emails (and usually those 'answers' were not helpful). She may be smart, but she doesn't present the content in a cohesive way and there were so many corrections that needed made in her content.
Very unorganized and gives A LOT of homework and readings. Lectures are very long and very boring, I don't learn anything when she talks. Do yourself a favor and pick literally anyone else.
Kelly is a very nice person in and outside of class, but her teaching style is one of the most difficult things I've ever had to learn. Kelly consistently, almost every single class, goes over the already 2 hour lecture by at least another hour or two. The class felt unorganized and there was minimal feedback, grades were also never posted.
Ive never rated/reviewed anything in my life but I felt like I had to because this was the worst class I have ever taken. Kelly was so disorganized, nothing made sense, and it was really hard to know what was even being assigned. She talked so fast and monotone it was impossible to learn from her. I had to learn through youtube videos.
The second worst Professor that I took a class under while at PCC. She assigns busy work on top of homework, consisting of pages upon pages of homework per week, lectures aren't engaging at all, and she packs a ton of information on test, all while expecting you to take it with closed notes, closed books and closed resources! Unreal expectations!
Kelly has a great personality and is very passionate about biology and sustainability. Biology is a difficult subject and she does a great job explaining it in ways you can relate to. I took her 211-213 course 5 years ago and it inspired me. She's tough but its to challenge and prepare you, not make your life difficult. Not for everyone but 11/10
Kelly is disorganized, doesn't grade ANYTHING. Our class didn't receive our grade for our first midterm until a week after we received our grade for the SECOND midterm! Her "teaching" is just her sharing her knowledge with the class, doesn't pay attention during lab. Our class also didn't receive our grades for our finals or our term projects.
I'm learning a lot in her class and she is very kind but disorganized. It isn't easy to follow what she wants and she often goes on long-winded tangents during lectures. There are also a lot of quizzes so if you have test anxiety I wouldn't take her class.
Very knowledgeable and friendly, really enjoyed the labs and field trip opportunities. Homework instructions sometimes seemed scattered and unclear, lots of busywork and repetitive questions, but forgiving if you communicate. Do not take if you're looking for easy credits, go in with genuine interest in the subject.
Kelly was actually one of my most favorite professors I've ever had. She really pushes you to know your stuff . Turn in all your homework and you'll be fine. I had to meet with her outside of class every week. Communicate with her. I learned a lot more than just biology.. she preps you for real life!
She spent the first in class lecture (this was a hybrid course) explaining how the class was set up to someone who couldn't figure it out. This should have been a one on one meeting. She was sick the second week and the funny thing was that she has stressed how if you missed even one class you should expect to fail. She screwed the whole class.
Was disorganized and dates for assignments were incorrect at times. Lecture homework can range from 4-8 pages long. Midterms and Final exams are both multiple choice and written. You have to be able to understand the material and be able to apply it. I did all homework assignments and failed my exams but still got a B in the class.
Very caring and really does want you to learn the material and succeed in her class. She has the grading set up to where if you actually do all the homework, the test scores don't matter as much. Her online portion is very disorganized and I've never felt so confused on what was due and when so often. Understanding about her shortcomings though.
she was horrible THE MOSY STRESSFULL HOMEWORK. took forever to grade things test were really hard
One of the least helpful professors I ever had the displeasure of meeting. She genuinely does not care if you pass or fail. I have no idea why she even went into teaching.
