HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.... I have never failed in a class before and i sure did in this one. Watch out PSEO students... this is NOT the class to take to get highschool credits... It will ruin your GPA
Awesome techer!1 One of My favorites
Dr. Befus is great. She's fun, brilliant, and easy to understand. This is, however, a college course, and it is difficult--if someone isn't prepared for class each day and doesn't do the work. As long as you stay on top of the assignments, it should be fine.
Very bad prof. needs to go back to learn to teach.
I had her lab and it was very easy to do. she did talk a lot but she wasnt too bad of a teacher.
Good personality, but bad teaching skills. She doesn’t know how to teach at all. Make a taste in one day :). I do not recommend take her.
nice person but can NOT teach well. very unorganized and seems always over-extended with little time to do things properly (writes new exams the day before the test date). exams are not well thought out-organized-and emphasis sometimes on material that was not lectured on thoroughly. save your money for another course with ANOTHER instructor.
Dr. Befus is tough; I took 1020, 1061/2 and they were, by far, some of my most challenging courses to date. DO ALL OF THE ASSIGNED PROBLEMS, AND THEN SOME. You will likely be exhausted after tests; most of the students in my classes were. If you plan to take o-chem, this is a fairly good boot camp. For what it's worth, I have fond memories. :)
Mrs. Befus is a horrible teacher she chose the wrong profession. She is never available for students and she doesn't like when students ask questions in class. Nobody understood what she was lecturing about. She isn't prepared or organized ever. She doesn't stick to a topic she jumps around. She speaks with her eyes closed. NEVER TAKE BEFUS!!!!!!
She isn't as bad as people say, she just doesn't want people to breeze through her class. I took chem over the summer with her and passed with a B. It was very intense ecspecially for me because I am science dumb! Others have said she doesn't like when you ask ?'s and that is just not the case.
Befus is OK.. She is always unorganized though, and she always acts like she is in a hurry, so she makes people feel like they are going to be bothering her with their questions..
Thought the class was fine. If you didn't do the homework, read the text, or work on the problems then yes this class will be difficult. That isn't her fault. Chem is a hard subject anyway. I found that the people who are complaining are the ones who aren't doing the work, not showing up, studying, etc. Grow up, this is college now high schoolers.
Befus is a great teacher, she makes a very hard subject as easy as possible. She does everything she can in helping her students, she would stay hours after class helping students. I definatly reccomend her. Also study all semester for the final as it is standardized.
Seems alright, maybe a bit "crazy professor" at times tho.
I have Befus for CHEM 1020 lab, and I am really glad I took her. She explains things very well and makes sure you know what you are doing. She is a clean and neat freak though so make sure you always wash your hands and clean your lab station good. She is just trying to prevent an injury. She also likes when your your labs ans prelabs are neat
awesome
Knows her stuff. Doesn't allow for any nonsense in lecture/lab. Overall does a good job with the material!
One the of best and most helpful teacher I have ever encountered!!! Seriously, I got a "D" in highschool chem, then took this for my nurse pre req and did surprisingly well!!
she was a great teacher, but dont approach her if you didnt do your reading or assignment first. she gets angry if you do that. she will take time to help you and go beyond if you have an example ready to ask her about. I wish she taught higher level chemistry. I would take her again for sure.
I had a tough time warming up to her at first and found her unapproachable - seemed to make you feel dumb if you made a mistake. But she provides so much for you to help yourself I didn't realize how helpful it was. I ended up really enjoying the class, even though it was pretty difficult.
You might as well just take an online course. She is NOT good at teaching. Befus, just has organized the material that you need to study. But, she does a horrible job TEACHING..
I had her for a summer course and thought she did a *remarkable* job at providing and EXPLAINING all the necessary materials! She never moved along until she was certain every one in the class understood! Her favorite quote is: "Questions warm my heart!"
Mrs Bufus loves what she does. Not sure if i'm going to pass but if I don't I'll be taking her class. She has online recoreded lectures to help out. She admits her humor is a bit dry, however, turn on music from the 60's or 70's and she can jam with the best of us!! SHE IS A VERY SWEET COMPASSIONATE Professor. Thanks KB! Older student in class!
I had Befus for Chemistry 1020 and found her to be one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. She had everything laid out for our success in class. For anyone that wants to succeed in chemistry she is the instructor to choose. For those that don't want to work hard, don't take chemistry at all and if you do,and fail, don't blame the teacher.
For those med students that need a strong understanding of the basics of chemistry, Befus is the instructor to choose. She will prepare you for those tough Organic Chem classes. She is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met.She is an instructor that can answer your hardest question.
For those of us med students that really need a strong understanding of the basics of chemistry, Befus is the teacher to choose. She really prepares us for the tough Organic chemistry classes that will come later. She is an instructor that can answer your hardest questions.
Dr. Befus, Is a wonderful Chemistry teacher. If you have the desire to learn you will thrive in her class!
Great Teacher! I would recommend her. I attended class and did the homework and I never had to study. This was a very easy class for me. Take her she is helpful if you need it
GREAT TEACHER:)
I really enjoyed having Befus as an instructor for Chemistry. She's very helpful with questions and offers many resources for extra help on her website. She also has an office hour online each week and will go over questions on an online whiteboard. I use to really struggle with Chemistry and after taking a class with her, I am much better at it.
Awesome teacher and class , highly recommend
Kelly Befus really made me look at Chemistry different. It was a hard class, yet she made it easier and more fun to learn! Thanks Mrs. Befus!:)
Awesome Teacher
(Only had her for lab) She's very strict and specific but I think for the most part she's just concerned for safety. You can tell she cares about her students. Weekly lab quizzes and prelabs. Don't forget to do them. As long as you're prepared and listen to instructions, you'll do fine.
I had her for lecture and lab, and she was by far my favorite teacher. She was clear and tough, but she made class fun. i recommend taking her for any chem classes!
The thing I like the most about Dr.Befus is that she overloads her site with resources and recorded lectures. Also, at the time I hated all of the mastering Chem assignments but looking back they are what made me learn the most. Take her lec/lab hybrid course, its awesome!
oops, I meant to put 1020, not 1106 in my last post....
Excellent teacher. I didn't realize how good she teaches until I took the next chemistry course. I did really good cuz i was really prepared. If she puts a question on a test that too many students miss, she may adjust the score....really fair
GREAT TEACHER! She puts sooo much of her time to make sure her students are getting everything they need. It is a hard class and she trys to make it as easy as possible. BEST TEACHER I ever had!
i was dreading taking chemisry before I took her class. i learned a lot like how to study. ms beefus has so many resources and cares. if you don't want to work, then don't take her class. if you want to learn, this is the chem teacher to take. she doesn't take crap from anybody and respencts your time. no pop quizzes either
heard she was really demanding. overwelms you with resources. lots of lectures are recorded. gives a heads up on quizzes. knows her stuff... actually shes pretty funny, gives a list of stuf you have to memorize at the beginning of the term. online office hours were most benificial
I dropped her class but I will take her again. I didn't have my priorties straight. very organized recorded lectures, assigns alot of homework and if I had kept up with it, I wouldn't be having to take the class again
excellent teacher. wish she taught other chem classes at this school. really helpful during office hours. i'd deffinitely recommend her class if you must take chem.
I actually thought the class was easy. Good teacher though if you didn't understand it. Teaches the course as if you never had chem in highschool. Shes approachable. Tries to learn all her students names. WOW
she records her lectures. theyre awesome. But dont plan on listening to the online lectures and skippin class. it won't work out. shes very organized and very fair. if you don't want to work, shes not an easy teacher. online office hours are also very helpful
I took Befus last spring semester and now I wish she was teaching other chemistry classes. I didn't realize how helpful her resources were until I had to take another chem clss without them. She has recorded lectures, lecture notes, old quizzes available to name a few.
I was scared to death to take chemstry before this class. Befus is awesome. if you go to class and use the resources she's provided, you will do fine. Anyone who doesn't pass her class, isn't putting the time in.
Awesome class. Dr. Befus has lots of resources for students. Even though attendance isn't required, it's helpful to go to the lectures. She clearly enjoys teaching.
Awesome teacher. I had chem in high school....and thought this class would be an easy class. I learned a lot in her class but I was challenged. She treats students well, with a lot of respect. You can tell she is passionate about her teaching. She is a classy lady.
excellent professor. has many additional resources available to aid in learning. Gives VERY HARD EXAMS, but if you study the material you should do ok. If she see's that you are trying, she will always try to help you. Not an easy class if you've never had chem before.
beefus is very interested in student success. she posted previous semesters exams to study off of. labs are fun. lots and lots of resources. adjusts her teaching style to fit the needs of the class. asks for feedback
AWSOME INSTRUCTOR
knows how to manage a classroom. she always seems happy to be teaching, seems comfortable in front of a class. my attiude towards chem improved with her course
she deals effectively with students who are talking and disturbing others. has a nice demeanor. her online office hours are very helpful...she also has her lectures online as well. If you want the easiest chem instructor at this school, then don't take her. if you want the best chem instructor at arcc, then take Prof. Befuss
Wish Befus was teaching other chemistry courses at this college. She enjoys teaching and it shows. Very concerned about students' success
I wasn't looking forward to taking chem....now its one of my favorite classes. Befus is awesome!! Really cares for her students.
i had to drop Befus' class cuz i was failing this term but I'll sign up for her class agin this summer.i wish i had used the resorces that she had avalable from the start. she makes class enjoyble
Awesome instructer! i hated chem in hs and was not looking forward to taking it again. very well-organized class.....class was fun. i actually miss the class now that the semester is over. instructer gives lots of resources like online lectures that you can view at anytime, notes, tons of handouts...i did way better than i ever thought i could
I'm taking her online class right now. The class is very well laid out and expectations are clear. Its a lot of work because the class is double the pace of a regular semester. so far she has replied to all my emails rather quickly. All her lectures are online so you can watch her work the problems as many times as you need to, really COOL!
instructor is awesome.....cummunicates well If students don't do so well on an exam, she looks the statistics for the questions to decide if each question was fair or not. Seems understanding but is not a pushover.
I took online chem at the U of M. The course was a disaster. This ARCC prof has laid out her course very well. All her lectures are recorded. Lots of resources like online office hours, organized study groups....her online exams are tough. Online labs are actually fun. She is quick about getting stuff back to students as well...about 4 days avg
Befus made Chem super fun! I had taken it two semesters before and dropped, but when I took it last semester Befus made it so I could actually understand! She was very helpful, and provided may resources to help out with the class. If anyone fail one of Befus's class, it would be their fault.
I didn't appreciate Befus until I started taking other online and seated classes at this college. She has the most resources, really enjoys teaching, and seems to care. We sort of tangled on our first encounter but she's actually very reasonable...now I wish I would have appreciated her class more when I was in it.
I got really frustrated in this class but took advantage of Ms. Befus' online office hour. Nobody else was on that night. SHe worked all the problems I asked her to do. I watched her work homework problems and then she showed how to enter stuff in Mast. Chem. How cool is that? I could ask her anyhting I wanted while at home on my computer.
Knows how to teach....very effective. Returns graded lab reports promptly. Very reasonable, especially if you talk with her in person. Not an easy instructor, but she is very passionate about teaching. High energy.
I dreaded taking chemistry.....had an awful high school experience. Befus is very good, she's organized, has high expectations. He class was the first real college class I took here.
awesome instructor....you don't appreciate how good she is until you take chem at some other college. She's pretty funny in class....has a dry sense of humor.
Not an easy instructor but she is very fair. Befus admits if she makes a mistake and tries to fix it. She tries new things to encourage students. I am doing extremely well in my next chem class all because of her preparation.
I'm almost at the end of her 8 week online course. It's grueling but then it's twice the pace of a regular semester course. I could not have done it without all the resources this instructor has...she has a very well laid-out course and she's still working on improving it.I had taken chemistry at another college and this course was MUCH BETTER!
I'm taking the summer hybrid course. It is definitely a tough pace. I have to admit I hated Mastering chemistry in the beginning....but like Befus says, you grow to appreciate it. You can't cut corners in this class....you have to use all the resources and you gotta allow sufficient time for the class.
excellent instructor....almost finished with her summer course. not that many people took advantage of her online office hours.....they were great! she'll work problems and answer questions while ur on your computer at home.
awesome class!!!!! wish she would teach other classes at this college. The first night of class some lady came in to observe. I thought it was the dean...turns out other faculty in the college like to sit in Befus's class and observe her cuz of her reputation. WOW!!
Took chem at the U of M before this class. Befus' class is so much better. I learned so much more. She's very organized with lecture notes, recorded lectures, practice quizzes, online quizzes, online office hours. She's not easy but if you do the work, you'll make it. Very funny too!
AWESOME instructor, lots of work,
I couldn't have asked for a better Chem professor. I hated chem before this class, but she made it interesting. She gives you SO many resources to succeed; tutor, recorded lectures, notes, practice quizzes/exams, study groups & more. Respect her and WORK HARD & she works with you, she is funny & SO HELPFUL! Take her for chem!
Very helpful instructor, but tough. Doesn't care what people think. She's very fair but you better do your own work...I heard she nailed a couple of students for cheating. If it's who I think it is ...way to go Ms. Beefus!
Wish she taught other science courses at this college.....she sets the standard for other faculty . She respects students and all others and it shows.
I thought she was too patient with some students in the class who were taking advantage of the situation. Eventually she put her foot down and said no more late labs. It's a fine line between being too hard-nosed and being too accommodating.
I though it was a great chemistry class...much better than the previous chem class I had taken. I learned alot. The only people who were negative and whining all the time were the ones that never did their homework or studied. If you hear somebody complaining about Ms. Beefus...that should tell you something about the person. She's awesome!
Great class!! Awesome instructor.
She's for real....i've never had an instructor email me the third week of classes and ask to meet with me to see what they can do to help me. i missed one of the first online quizes cuz my cumputer broke...i figured it my problem. i was surprised when i received her email asking if i needed help. WOW
This professor enjoys teaching and it really shows. I have her Saturday class and this past Saturday, she had us laughing so much, I thought I was at a comedy club. Who knew chemistry could be so fun? She's a demanding instructor, she's very organized, she's fair, and she's very good at what she does.
Ms. befus is exactly as the advisors described her in orientation: she expects you to work, very clear communicator, you learn alot, outstanding professor, caring, and very funny. I'm a slacker and she has encouraged me to work towards a goal like no one else has she says things like" i'm going to get paid this fri if you ask questions or not.
Approachable but seems overwhelmed at times. She seems to have alot on her plate. Online office hours are excellent. She is an awesome teacher. This is my 2nd time thru the course and I heard she was really good so I switched to her class.
took me a while to figure out the class. ms befus has online office hours...very cool and very helpful. Wish she could have them more often but shes got a family too. its great to be at home doing homework and be able to get help from the teacher if i get stuck.
Even though I do horribly in her class and I wake up early and have her at 8 in the morning.. something about this class that motivates me to go everyday it's fun and exciting! She's is probably the most outstanding professor I've had yet so far. She is willing to help and do anything to make her student success!
It looks like I'm going to fail this class but I'm still going to take Ms Beefus again. She had all the resources available, I only wish I had taken advantage of them. I know if I take any other instructors class, I wont have it as good.
Was really eager to help students, she was pretty clear in class, with lectures. But she wasn't easy.
AWESOME teacher! Truly my favorite! Yes she's not the easiest, was super hard in the beginning but if you realize and do the work and pay attention it can really be a piece of cake. Helps out and answers questions whenever you need, helpful online office hours. Wants you to do good. Passionate and just a great teacher :)
I like how this instructor takes control of the class and doesn't let students flap their gums anytime they want. Her class is a mix of problems, demonstrations, going over homework, quizzes...definitely worth going to class...even though it is not mandatory. She is constantly improving the class, incrementally based on feedback.
Befus is very organized.... don't wait until the last minute in her class to get things done, however. She's very patient about explaining things ...except when it's due in 5 minutes. If you make time in your schedule to work at being successful in the class, she makes time in her schedule to help you.
gives thorough tests. she usually tells you if there is going to be a quiz in class. This is the first time i've had a professor admit if they make a mistake, apologize, and then try to remedy the situation. very sincere.
one of my favorite teachers at AR. She is thorough and very helpful when you have questions, and is very good in labs and at giving individual help to the students when needed. She is also very approachable with questions you have usually has advice to help you out.
I took an online class with a different professor before taking her hybrid class. She creates a fun environment in the hyrid class that I never got in an online class. It made the difference between me flunking the class and making a B in it the second try. We only met as a class about 7 or 8 times, but I really enjoyed her in person lectures.
I took her hybrid class last fall. It was awesome! One Saturday we laughed so much my ab muscles hurt the next day.
Online office hours are extremely helpful. What other professor would have you sit in their office and work homework problems or ask question for an hour? By doing office hours online, you can listen to other students' questions. She works the problems out on her tablet so you can see her work + hear her explanation. How cool is that?
she is an awesome teacher who really takes her time to address students issues. she makes learning chemistry fun and she is very encouraging to her students. oh and very funny!
i wish she was teaching other chem classes at this school. she's very prepared, knows how to explain difficult concepts.
Awesome class!!!! Had taken it with a diff professor last semester but had to withdraw. I'm so glad I took the class again with Befus.
i did not look forward to taking chem but this class was layed out very well. i didn't realize how good i had it, until i started studying with freinds who took other chem profs and i was always explaining stuff to them. the people who complained about her were the ones who didn't do their work or didn't come to class. to bad for them.
I loved Mrs. Befus. I was going through a rough patch while I was taking her class, and she tried really hard to work around me. She let me come into other labs if I missed one, not to mention all the help she offered in and outside of class. If you take Chem. and aren't great at it, take her.
i took ms. befus' class last fall and it went fairly well. then i took a biology class and that's when i really missed her teaching. she has so many resources. she's also very good to go to for one on one help. i liked her online office hours the best.
I wish she was my mom.....she just cares so much about everything she does.
I'm taking her summer 1020 class. it's 16 weeks of class crunched into 5 1/2 weeks...three times the pace and half the normal class time. she made it very clear the first night of class..... about the time commitment it would take. A lot of students bit off more than they can chew. i wish the complainers would stay at home.
took her summer hybrid class, it was tough but Ms befus was very accommodating
i took her course last spring....now that i am in the next level of chemistry, I apprecate her class even more. she was very organized and made the subject interesting.
The class was very difficult. She was not very helpful, but it was a class that was only about 2-3 months long and it was a hybrid. She had to cram too much in too little time. Do your homework! No questions asked, and make sure to do good on the tests! Listen and take notes. You really have to put a huge amount to time into this class. Good luck!
i took her hybrid class this past summer and found this instructor very helpful. she had online office hours several times a week. it was great, i didn't have to get a babysitter just to go to campus to get help from her. she was willing to give extra time to students who asked for it. i'm taking a biology class now and her class prepared me well
I took Ms. Befus' class this summer and dropped it. At the time I wasn't very happy with how her class was run. Now I'm taking a regular chem class that runs the whole semester. I now relize her class was really quite good. She was VERY organized! I used the notes and old tests from her class and thats whats getting me through chem this time.
I took Befus'hybrid class a year ago. Hardest A I ever worked for....best class I ever took. I work as a nurse full time and I had to get all my work done on the weekends. Her class was very well-laid out. She even had online office hours on Sundays for people like me. She would poll the class and try to have online hours to accommodate
Here's a list of what you might hear if you take her class. 1) If you don't have time to do the homework, you probably won't have time to retake the class. 2) If you don't have fun in lab it's your fault...she's having a blast teaching it. 3)People that don't know how to spell fluorine by the second exam, probably won't pass....she's witty.
class was a hybrid course approximately 50% online. I have taken onlne courses before but this instructor exceeded my expectations for online availability. It was a fast paced course in the summer, ms. Befus was able to give one-on-one attention almost every night of the week thru er online office hours.
If u needed help she was available. Anybody who didn't do well, didn't bother asking for help. She did cool demonstrations and the labs were kinda fun to
Kelly always tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams in order for you to do well. She is very good at giving partial credit if you seem to be going in the right direction with your answer. She is always willing to help. Dorky jokes and awesome teacher. I recommend taking her course.
Next week is finals week and of all the classes I have, I am least worried about my chem final. Why? Because Befus makes sure we are studying what we need to know. She's not tellng us what's on the test, she's just making sure we have the skills needed to be successful, whatever she puts on the final. Wish other faculty would do the same.
I was failing this class and had to drop but I will take it over again with this teacher next semester.
i like this class. ilike how befus gives study guides and practice problems for her tests. cuz you know what to study. she maks you show ur work and gives part credit.
Great Teacher for an basic chem class. Very clear in explaining and demonstrating material.
AWFUL teacher! Don't take her! you will fail the class! she makes everything really hard to learn! Goes through it once then you have a quiz. Not happy that she is the only teacher you can take to get into the nursing program!Be prepared to go to the tutors a lot.Gave us a lot of homework before the final, which didn't help.
I didn't even like science before taking this class but loved it after taking her class. was Very interesting. Ms. Befus gave us clear and concise notes for lectures. Before every quiz , we had a set of practice problems and usually a key to the problems. Gave a very detailed study guide for exams.
I took Ms. Befus’s Gen Chem class at Cambridge 9 years ago. At the time I was very critical of her teaching. Looking back, I now realize her chem class was one of the courses that prepared me the most for the U’s Coll of Biol Sciences. A lot of other classes I had at Cambridge did not prepare me as well as her class did.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my life! I would ask questions and response was, I already went over that. I sent so many emails asking for help and never received one back. If I could I would report her, she was so mean and unhelpful. Never take her!
the most unorganized teacher i've ever experienced! it was absolutely ridiculous especially for an online class! you need to be organized! the syllabus just throw it away because it changes 4 times a week! she requires you to log into d2l 5 out of 7 days a week just to see what she has changed! Horrible teacher!
The amount of time spent on this class was EXTREMELY time consuming. She is very willing to help a student understand a concept, but be willing to go online labs that she holds they are CRUCIAL if a student is struggling.
This online course is insanely difficult. I took online because I work full time BIG mistake I've never had more intensive or time consuming work in any of the other 65 credits worth of classes leading up to this point
Very nice and understanding. Very helpful but she doesn't respond to emails often, but gets to you in class to speak to you about them. Ask questions when you need to and you should be okay. One flaw would be that she tends to not cover all of the exams with her study guides. I'd prefer for excess info. more than too little.
She's straight to the point and has little patience. She's obviously not a math teacher which makes the math parts of chemistry very confusing. If you read the book & attend all of her lectures & labs, you'll be just fine. She gives you a lot of leeway to make mistakes, but it's really easy to make them. She relates it to the real world though.
She is a great professor, she will help you if you ask. You just need to do the required readings, take notes. She even uses her weekends to help students before an exam. I would definitely take her again!
Amazing instructor, I really appreciated everything she said, ask about the tooth fairy.
Extremely good teacher. Took time out of her weekends to help anyone who was struggling. Very clear in what she wanted from her students. She'll make you work for the grade so just don't skip lab or lecture and study hard and you'll do great. Strongly recommend her. She's the reason I like Chemistry.
i took chem online at the u of m. she has online lectures that were superior. she adjusted the syllabus only when it benefited students, in other words, she would usually extend assignments if necessary . her online lectures are like attending a class in person and she had a LOT of online office hours in which students interacted with others
Professor Befus was a great professor and I would totally take her again. She expects a lot of student participation though. Befus makes it clear that she wants her students to do well so she promises no pop quizzes, which is nice. You have to study though. Befus is really helpful and answers all the questions that I asked her.
Professor Befus is a fantastic teacher. She is strict on safety but she makes the material very easy to learn. She allows for mistakes to happen and expects a lot of participation. She lets the students know when tests and quizzes are. Her online office hours help a lot if there are any questions.
Kelly is a good teacher, but she really expects you to have background knowledge in whatever class you're taking. She will call on people in class which I find embarrassing, but she won't make fun of a student if they don't know the answer.
I was really nervous to take chemistry. Like SUPER nervous. She made sure that we were comfortable enough in class to ask question. She didn't mind going over and over things! Really appreciate her as a person! She is understanding that chemistry is not the only thing going on in your life! I enjoyed taking this class with her.
If you need to take chemistry, Kelly is a professor you want to take it with. She is very caring and understands that life happens. She will help you, if you take the time to do homework and study for exams you can get an A.
Dr. Befus makes a challenging subject easier to understand. She's not warm and fuzzy, but always willing to help and never makes you feel bad for asking a question. Lots of homework and quizzes, but it really prepares you for the exams, and you always know ahead of time when something is due or scheduled. Take advantage of the online office hours!
Let's put it this way, I failed Chem last year at a different school and was nervous about this class. I studied hard this semester and it paid off. She's so understanding and caring. Take her if you can I promise it won't be a mistake. Doesn't waste your time or money. Strict but very fair. Thanks Kelly very enjoyable. Learned a lot. NH :)
Professor Befus is very unorganized. She assigns the homework to be due before we learn the materials. She takes forever to post up grades, so you can't be sure if you did well or not on your exams. She is an overall great person, but when it comes to teaching, she should take more time to go through, rather than rush to do labs and get it over.
I loved her class. I never really read out of the textbook unless I was having a hard time understanding a certain concept. I feel like the class either absolutely loved her or hated her. She doesn't really use a curve but if the majority of the class got a question (or more) wrong, she'd omit it.
Excellent teacher. Chemistry did not come easy to me, and I was lazy at first and struggled with this class. She took the time to meet with me, and help me when I needed. I had a D before my final and passed with a B because of her help and grading! A little disorganized, but I learned alot from her, and really liked how accommodating she was.
No one in our class enjoys her. She's very disrespectful, unapproachable, rolls her eyes, a lot of "ugh's", talks to everyone like we're in elementary school. She boasts, literally, about the "bad names" students call her, like she's proud off it. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. You need to read your textbook a lot because she doesn't explain things at all
Lecture attendance isn't required, lab is. I had her for both. Lectures are boring and long. Don't really need them unless youre really bad at chem, I would suggest going to the math related ones. She is rather rude as she likes to taunt students and call them out. Lab is a breeze. Be ready for online quizzes.
Kelly cares about her students and wants them to succeed but her class is quite difficult. I had a hard time understanding her notes and her tests were insane. If the tests were bad she would add points to everyone score which helped, but I often felt like I was never taught the material that was on the test.
Honestly, one of the best teachers that I have met in my education; and, one of the most kind/charitable that I have met in my life. She will be brutal, hard, and a bloody battle-ax. She does that because you need to learn how to learn scientifically -and trust me, odds are you don't know.
Labs are pretty easy but the quizzes have nothing to do with what we learned in lab, no pop quizzes. Constantly late to class, especially lab. My lab was at 8AM, everyone in the class would be there ready to go and she would show up at 8:05-8:10 then we would get started around 8:30. Class time story time instead of really doing anything in class
Barely responds to emails. Unorganized. Little explaining, assumes we are all chemists. Very short in lecture. Flies through lab, I leave w/ half filled papers most of the time. Post lab quizzes- not specific on how to input answers and does not show what we got wrong. Takes a week to get exam results, maybe longer. Gets frustrated. Teach yourself.
Dr. Befus is an amazing professor. She truly cares about the success of her students. She is very clear in her with her expectations, syllabus, and grading methods. Her approach toward the material is personable and professional. She is very respectful, funny, and understands the sacrifices and needs of the military-connected community at ARCC.
I think she is good, i mean she not the best for sure, A lot of shallow explanations. She runs through most chapters and acts like youve already taken the subjet before.
She is a really great teacher all in all. She was going through a lot in her personal life the semester I took her class, but she was always ready to teach. She is a tough teacher, but if you do what she says you will be just fine. She makes herself very accessible outside of the classroom and will take her time to explain something if you need.
I passed the class through the help of youtube. Her online lectures were unbearable. She was a grumpy teacher that talked badly about past students and colleagues she came across. She just sounds like a miserable person. Made it hard to ask any questions because she will dumb you down for not having a clue about what she's talking about.
Ms. Befus was very unorganized and typically didn't start class on time. Study guides/keys have to be asked for multiple times and she gets flustered very easily. As far as teaching goes, she was very good at breaking things down. If you have questions- ASK. If it still doesn't make sense, ASK AGAIN. She wants you to understand.
I hated her at first. She was harsh, she sped through the material and I was really struggling. However, after approaching her about her ways of teaching and how they weren't working for me, it's been a total change. She works with her students, and genuinely cares about them and helping them pass. However, she is a tough teacher. But she's great.
Befus is the worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of learning from. She's constantly passive aggressive, complaining about students and coworkers, and condescending. If you ask her a question when she doesn't feel like answering, or thinks you should already know it, will result in a condescending, "get it over with" type of answer.
Kelly was the definition of air headed. She was beyond unorganized. Her lectures were pointless. You will read the entire book just to barely understand the material. Her labs were unbearable, she never explained them and expected you to know what to do. Do not even wasting time to study for the exams, she will purposely make them IMPOSSIBLE to pass
worst teacher i have ever had. do not take her. does not care at all about her students. once u start to struggle/fail she basically dismisses you. stuck in her ways and not willing to do more in depth. called a students stupid in front of class. very rude and harsh. just a terrible human
If you need to take a chem class, try to avoid this professor at ALL COSTS. The lab quizzes are nothing like what you did in the actual lab. The exams are much harder and different than the reviews she puts up. The final exam is absolutely NOTHING like what we learned from her lectures online. She makes exams very hard and confusing.
Befus is a tough grader but her process forces you to understand the material. Online office hours and lecture videos are vital. Barely touched the book. Labs were a flop for me. They were usually rushed and I never knew what I was trying to take away from them. The postlab quizzes were intense. Overall, Befus is solid. Her sarcasm is humorous too.
She is a very rude teacher and not very understanding she gets angry very easily and you have to walk on eggshells around her. She always says that questions are welcome but answers them in a very rude way. Her grading for everything is terrible and the labs are practically useless. The course itself is bearable but her attitude makes everthing bad
probably one of the worst professors i have ever met. her attitude is soooo bad. she's very rude. I hope she sees this too. lab was so hard. as a professor, she just was not it. do not take this class, please find a better professor. rating is negative 5
Worst professor I have ever taken in my life, her attitude is horrible and she's just an overall dismissive person. Her lectures are very unorganized and her course was unbearable. Do not take her.
STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT TO PASS. She started the semester unprepared for class after a sabbatical. No syllabus for days. Talked down to us and was cold and rude. She was unwilling to cooperate or listen, her behavior as an adult was uncomfortable. The worst professor I have EVER taken. Multiple meltdowns and tantrums over zoom. Embarrassing really.
I spoke with my advisor about this professors unprofessional behaviors during zoom. I was encouraged to file a complaint. That is how bad she acted over summer semester. I was honest to god so shocked by her freaking out in zoom that I recorded her because it was so unbelievable. Students beware. She has a temper and will not hesitate to snap
gives a million quizzes that you cant keep track of, lectures are very unorganized, does not feel bad one bit for anything that goes on in your own life, says to ask questions a lot but make you feel so dumb when you do, grades everything SO specifically, says she cares but her actions are the complete opposite. She is just also rude.
I ended up having to withdraw from her class, I throughly agree with the other reviews that gave her a 1 out of 5, listen to them!!!! She is such a tough grader (when she gets grades in), doesnt seem to care about her students, and wont hesitate to snap on her students. If you can, take chem with another professor!!!!!!
Befus is the worst prof I have ever had. I would spend hours reading and studying and still have no idea what was going on due to her inability to have a well organized and thorough lecture. She would often talk down to students asking questions. Her labs are easy but pointless, you learn nothing from doing them so basically a waste of time.
Believe all reviews!!!!!!!! spent countless hours studying and after hours meetings! I passed all sections but the exam section by 0.5% failed the course. gives out exam reviews that dont look nothing like the exam! No teaching during lecture most of its spent just looking for stuff on her computer talking about random stuff. Worst Ive ever had!
Shes a great person and would be a lot better in person than online. She makes some really harsh comments like if you dont get this you shout be a nurse which made a lot of people cry. She also shows favorites for people that are ahead and pays little attention to people that need extra help. Again great person but would recommend in person.
Befus is a very nice teacher and wants her students to be successful, although if she can tell that youre not trying your best, she wont help you. The content was very difficult if you dont take notes and do the practice problems that she provides, but I really enjoyed her as a teacher. I would also highly recommend taking this in person!
DO NOT TAKE HER! She wasted a lot of time in the lecture and was late multiple times where you could tell she just rolled out of bed. Very unprofessional. Tests are proctored and additionally you must record your hands with your phone. Every friday there is a quiz, every sat there is a postlab and homework due, and every week there is a prelab.
If you are willing to put in the effort in class, you will do well. She spends a ton of time working with the students who are struggling to understand a concept, which can lead to boring lectures for those who do, but you can really tell she cares about her students passing and understanding what she is teaching. Very accessible for extra help.
She's amazing, if you are taking CHEM 1050 try aiming for her. Very understanding when it comes to late work.
Have to stay caught up it is easy to fall behind and ask questions when you can to understand the material.
Do not have your time and money wasted with this professor. As a student who works full time, I schedule classes well in advance with little flexibility. This professor altered the course hours and delivery format several times (with no notification) before cancelling a week before the semester starts. I already ordered my materials for her class.
Ended up having to withdraw from the class because it was so hard to keep up with. She was constantly changing dates for quizzes and labs. I would study for hours and think I understood everything and then failed the test. Would not recommend. She is very disorganized
The professor was unprepared and canceled classes often. I was dissatisfied with the course and regret not dropping it. I advise against taking this class without excellent resources. You need to complete many practice exams, and failing them can disqualify you from the actual exam.
Very political
Very messy class learning multiple things at one time. Most time consuming class I have. DON'T TAKE IT ONLINE
I would not recommend taking this course fully online, especially the lab portion. I felt like doing labs at home was more frustrating than just doing it in a real lab. The professor was disorganized with deadlines, often changing the dates on things. I felt like her attitude towards students was a bit strange, almost rude.
