She actually makes lectures somewhat interesting and explains material well.

very good teacher. She is very helpful and very nice to talk to.
The class is actually pretty interesting.
The class is very intersting, this class will help with your future professional field.
Very organize, the class is interesting overall. YOu know what to expect for the midterm or final. YOu know the objective for this class.
She is nice...she makes learn microeconomics fun and understandable.
Great class,I like her teaching style. Just copy the note during every class meeting and understand your material. She answers all of your homeworks questions and she is very patients.
Awesome, great, wonderful professor!! She makes economics fun and easy to understand!!

Great professor, alway willing to help student with their problem!!
She presents the material clearly and is always open for questions through a variety of means. Recommended!
She was a great teacher period.
SLOW DOWN
Has a good understanding of the material but covers it way too fast and uses too many graphs. Perhaps more exams with less material on each would be beneficial to the students rather than two exams and a final, each covering like eight weeks or more of class material.
She makes the class pretty easy. Go to lecture, do the homework, and read the book, and you should get at least a B. She is very nice as well as accessible. However, her one flaw is that she tends to cover too much material in one class session. She needs to slow down!
She was the best teacher I've had at Purdue! Her lectures are very organized and clear. Her homework grading policy is the best, just do 70% and you get an A. She goes at a steady pace, and makes sure everyone understands.

I thought this class would be really boring, but she somehow keeps it interesting and makes it easy to understand. She's definitely one of my favorite profs.
Engineers if you need an easy A to boost the ole GPA this is it. Homework is a joke and if you actually listen in lecture and do the homework you will get an A for sure. Now just to figure out Thermo
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY! I LOVED HER!!! She actually made me want to become an Econ student.
For an econ class she kept it interesting
Explains topics well and is really easy to follow in her lectures.
I don't know how people like Blanchard. I felt like she talked to the class like a bunch of 5th graders. I'd get so pissed off in class I stopped going. Sure, it's easy, but she drove me nuts.
She has no idea what she is talking about!
annoying
Easy to understand, very helpful.
I guess she is your average professor, but she was boring and seemed to carrying on at points. Gives only two test and a final plus stupid homework. She talks and talks and needs to slow down. I recommend trying to get into the smaller econ classes at Purdue if they are avialble that semester. Unless you like a class of 500 or so.
I thought she was an excellent professor. She kept her lectures interesting for the most part, and she's really nice. Blanchard was always available through e-mail with questions, and she was quick to respond.
Probably an easier class if you pay attention.
Good teacher. Covers a little too much material in a short period of time. Definately the type of Prof you want to be looking at instead of some old fat guy.
She's a good professor, she has to cover a lot of material in a short time. Don't buy the book. Use the practice quizzes she posts on Katalyst.
Shes a good teacher very helpful
Didn't need the textbook at all. She posts enough practice quizzes and test online. Explained things pretty well.
I have so much respect for this woman. if u didnt like econ before, you will now.
She is a great professor but some times goes over important material too fast. However, she is always available during her office hours and very helpful.
She is the best professor I've had in 2 years at Purdue. She knows the topic well and how to explain it so it makes sense. Just be sure to go to EVERY class because she covers a lot of material.
Teaches very well. Very clear in whatever she teaches. Clears doubts effectively.
she does a fantastic job at explaining stuff during lecture, however if you dont go you will get behind very quickly if you go to lecture you will pass this class easily she does a great job teaching
Really great teacher. Does a great job explaining everything. Be aware though, if you don't go to lecture, you will fall behind pretty quickly and that'll mean an all-niter for the exams. But if you go to lecture every time, class is really easy
Great teacher. She has good examples in class and speaks clearly and generally keeps your attention. Now if only the homework was worth more points, and the exams worth fewer points, this would be a perfect class!
She's good at explaining the concepts, she teaches well, and she gives extra credit as a reward for going to class. Don't miss out on homework points because it's a completion grade. If you keep up the material or at least catch up with 2-3 days before an exam, you should be fine.
She used good examples in class that helped me understand the concepts. Lectures correspond well with the exams.
Examples used in class were very helpful. Class isn't all that difficult as long as you go to class and pay attention. Her notes and lectures are superb.
Best entry level econ prof I've had. Clear enough that stupid people can understand (I imagine) yet not so basic that the rest are bored. Understands students and runs her class exceptionally well, and replies to emails very quickly and thoughtfully.
Easy A. The only downside is I did not learn any economics. The higher level courses will actually tech stuff. This class is very basic and kelly teaches with examples like "If I bake 2 pies... and my husband bakes 1
the best econ professor ever I met. clear and easy!
Kelly rocks
I thought Kelly did a great job of making her class a well taught and easily attainable A if students put their time and effort in to class. She was very approachable and made herself available whenever a question was asked, as well as answering in a thoughtful and useful manner.
She is good
Good teacher.
Worst class I have ever had at Purdue. Hard tests, boring class, terrible terrible terrible. Don't be fooled by everyones happy comments like i was.
Hate it! Puts me to sleep. Boring! Never want to hear about donuts, thin mints or milk again!
She is kind of boring but she goes over everything that will be on her exams and makes sure you know what to have down come test time.
I was not a huge fan, but Kelly is a good teacher. She is VERY passionate about econ. It's almost like she speaks like someone attacked her opinion and she is trying to defend it.
Claas is always boring, but for the most part, easy to understand. I fell asleep EVERYday! Tests are extremely difficlut, because the questions are nowhere close to straightforward. I took AP econ in high school, and passed with a B... This class, not so much : (
Hard. Hard. Hard. Hard. Hard. The exams seem to be set up to trick you. They are absolutely ridiculously hard. The structure of the class and lectures are garbage.
very very very hard class...don't take it with her if you can keep from it, it does seem as if she tries to trick you.
the class was easy enough if you paid attention, but soooo boring. she is good at breaking down concepts.
Clear explanation of new concepts and a fully use the graph to interpret it. Exams are a little bit tricky but manageable. Since she has extra credit policy and clear practice exam. It's easy to get an A in her class.
Best 251 teacher at Purdue, yet still uses too many graphs. Extra credit is easy and nice.
Really nice prof... Easy to get an A in her class... All u got To do is to go to class and take notes and make sure u give all the extra credit quizzes
Kelly Blanchard is the best professor I've had at Purdue. Her class was challenging, but she explained all the material in a very simple way. She didn't make the course harder than it needed to be. She is very knowledgable on the subject of economics, but she doesn't make her students feel stupid. She is, in my opinion, the best professor at Purdue
She is the best professor I have at Purdue! Her lectures are very interesting. She explains the materials very well. Even though her exams are a bit tough, but she does give extra credit quizzes. She is very easygoing, extremely helpful, and patient. Highly recommended!
ok, felt some info presented in class was overstated in comparison to tests.
Greatest prof I had at Purdue... Breaks down the material and really will do everything in her power to help you do well
She is one of the best teachers I have ever seen. She explains the concepts very clearly and her graphs are extremely helpful. Also she is so nice, patient and always like to take a lot of food and food brand for example. That's really interesting. In one word, her lecture is wonderful.
one of the greatest professors i've had. explains things very clearly and has a passion for her work. HIGHLY recommended.
She was a really good professor. Just make sure you go to lecture. She explains everything there and also gives out bonus quizzes, so be ready for those. The curve isn't as much as you're expecting, so be prepared to put some work into the course. Overall pretty easy and a great professor.
Kelly puts a lot of effort into easing the materials for students in her lectures. Although attendance is not mandatory, going to class is helpful, if you wish not to read the textbook.
She is very good at lecture. The lectures are required to go to but she gives extra credit once in a while if you are there. The recitations are also nice because you go over everything then have quiz. Good class I would take it!
Kelly is such a straightforward teacher, she explains extremely well using many different formats. Lecture is not mandatory, and neither is buying the book, just the homework website code
Great teacher. Great at explaining. If you have the choice, take micro just so you can have Blanchard.
Class was easy because Professor Blanchard taught it. Very knowledgeable and helpful. She truly wants students to succeed and to understand the material.
Knowledgeable professor, attempts to answer students' questions. She gives practices exams to prepare for tests, but there are always a few unexpected questions which can be tricky (but hey, this is college). Gives about 3 extra credit quizzes a semester, so go to class! One downside is that it is hard to focus and pay attention in class.
Great professor. I never had to buy the book because I went to class every day and took notes! She explains the material very well! Wish she taught more classes!
Economics is a fairly boring topic, but she is an amazing professor! She is very nice, entertaining, and a wonderful teacher.
Kelly is great at explaining. The exams are pretty easy if you study all the lecture notes
Explains concepts really well during lecture. Didn't look at my book once, though. Don't bother buying it. Between lecture and recitation, you really don't need it.
Speaks clearly, very cordial and sympathetic within reason. Serves up the material as good as it gets in my opinion. On occasion, the textbook came in handy for clarification. Bottom line: Mrs. Blanchard, will you marry me!?!
Kelly is the best!! If anyone doesn't receive a good grade in her class then it's their own fault, not hers.
An enjoyable professor. It's a rough class and her exams are somewhat difficult but she is willing and very able to help.
Simply the best!
An excellent lecturer. The subject is hard for some but not impossible.
Made economics so interresting. I never missed a class, because I didn't want to. I never had to refer to the textbook, just took good notes. Doing the practice exam is a must. So helpful to get a solid understanding of economics.
Crystal clear, engaging lectures. Professor Blanchard knows what she's doing.
Online notes, boilercast is very handy if you miss class or dont want to show up and the recitations are of lectures so it is necessary to watch them or attend. Thats the only reason i didnt get the A in the class
Great professor. Would highly recommend. Very clear, made the info seem so easy
One of the best professors I've had at Purdue. Makes me want to change my major to Econ. I highly recommend you take one of her classes. She explains everything very thoroughly and won't test you on anything that hasn't been explicitly covered in class. one of the few professors here that actually cares about teaching.
She is one of the best professors at Purdue. Her classes are easy, and everything she talked about will be on the exam. There is little homework for the class. I did not buy a text book, but that's not a problem, because she talks about everything in class.
Tough exams, the questions aren't exactly straightforward, let's just say. She definitely knows her stuff and is excited about the material, however, but she's certainly not the best professor that I've had at Purdue, so far, but she isn't the worst, either.
Awesome teacher!
Kelly is a great ECON professor. Her lectures are easy to understand and she gives great examples to demonstrate the material. She's very nice and willing to help students if they don't grasp the concepts right away.
Good Professor with good notes. Gives extra credit questions if you attend class which the points really add up. She posts past exams. Use those to study
Probably the best professor I've had so far at Purdue! She always tries to explain the topics as clearly as she can and is always willing to help students. Attend class for extra credit opportunities. Best way to prepare for exams is to go to class, take notes, and do the practice exams.
Prof. Blanchard is amazingly clear with her lectures. The most difficult part of this class is waking up at 7:30 to go for class, but other than that material is easy to follow and she gives great examples. The exams are right out her notes, and it helps she posts lectures on boiler cast.
Supper awesome teacher! she is the best choice for you if you take econ!
Spectacular professor! The lectures are very informative. I did not have to use the expensive textbook. If you go to the lectures and complete the homeworks the exams should be relatively easy.
This is what a college class is supposed to be like. You & your 200 closest friends stuck in a room together with a professor that actually cares about what she's teaching. It makes going to class very easy.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
She is simply the best professor. If you come to every lecture, your grade will be awesome. The exact same note with the past lecture notes.
Great teacher
Starting out in Krannert as a Freshman, she is just the type of professor you need to get a solid background in economics.
The professor is very knowledgeable. Her lectures are pretty straightforward and easy to understand.
Professor Blanchard is extremely helpful and does not hesitate to answer any questions. You will get a good grade in the class if you are actively participating in the course.
She is an excellent lecturer. She replies to student in email really quick.
She truly has a passion for economics and is a good teacher.
Her lectures are very clear. Her teaching method is easy to follow and she makes clear what she wants you to learn
Good teacher. Willing to put in as much work as you will.
One of the best teachers I have ever had at Purdue. you have to put effort into the class to get the grade you want, but she explains everything perfectly.
Kelly B is a straight up boss. She's the best professor I've had yet!
One of the best professors at Purdue. No need to even buy the book. Go to class for extra credit.
Passionate about the material
Amazing professor overall. She is a gift to the student body at Purdue. I loved every second of her class, and if you make an effort to meet with her, she will never forget it. Attendance is completely optional, but theres a ton of extra credit
Kelly Blanchard is a great professor, however many concepts ran together for me in this class. I worked my tail off to get an A. Since its a big lecture class, there isn't much individual attn. Luckily, I had people that I sat with each week and we could review together. Tough course, but not impossible. Believe it or not, I will miss this class.
a great professor
She clearly explains topics very well, but the wording on the tests is difficult. She wants to know who knows the topics and who doesnt. Overall, gives good lectures, easy to follow, and extremely nice and willing to help
Explains everything clearly, lecture is extremely easy to follow and take notes in, the material I need to know for exams is clear and the exams are tough but fair. Lectures are pretty dry, but she is very very good
Definitely have to work for a good grade in this class.
Easy to pass
Clear at explanations and very communicative.
Great teacher, clear and very intriguing
Great lecturer! Explains everything really well!
It's very clear and if you study it will be easy! I had fun taking this class.
As long as you listen carefully in class, you can earn good grade.
The exams in this class are really difficult. They are much more complex than homework questions with lots of application. However, she is very clear and easy to follow, so if you work hard, you can do it! I couldn't.
Best prof. I've ever had at Purdue. She is very clear and gives great examples, easy to follow
Very clear with her lectures. Sometimes explanations become tedious, but it's only so she knows you understand. Very agreeable and easy to approach. Highly recommend
Good Lectures
Engineers will think this class is a piece of cake, and so will the business kids that love math.. everyone else needs to prepare. She says the best way to study for the tests are the practice exams but if thats all u do you will get a C- in the class. Understand the notes. Don't take it at 7:30 if ur not gonna go. Take this class seriously.
Class: Go! She's a fantastic teacher and person Extra Credit: Do it! It's like getting 6 more questions right on the exam Homework: Do it! There's unlimited tries. You will get 100% Office Hours: Go if you need help! She's super nice, helpful, and will remember you Practice Exams: Do them. If you know the concepts, you can get an A like I did!
Best teacher I have had so far. She gives really good lectures and is easy to listen to. Got a 98% in the class. BTW it is almost an identical course to AP microeconomics, which I took in high school. Plenty of extra credit opportunities so do those too. Tests are easy if you understand the material. Didn't even buy textbook, can find info online.
Blanchard is a wonderful professor whose class you cannot go wrong taking. I enjoyed it and definitely recommend it. I took the honors section which is a smaller class with more difficult essay question exams. Questions are always answered with enthusiasm and she has an almost magical ability to see into what you're asking and expand on it.
Even through her class was long, but all she taught in class is the exam you are going to take. you don't even need to buy a book to read, because she explain all in the class.
Her lectures can get really long and boring. However she tries her best to make her lectures interesting. She's very clear with the concepts she's explaining and even though attendance isn't mandatory, she will give random hotseat questions which are extra credit. Her lectures go online and her exams are always similar.
Very clear professor. Come to class and do the homework and getting an A will be no problem.
She was fine... but she moved really fast
Very good, reply to emails on time and very clear
Professor Blanchard is a great Econ teacher. Her lectures are very clear. You take the notes and study those notes for the exam, you'll pass. Personally, I didn't read the textbook because her lecture notes were so clear. She also gives extra credit hotseat so that's really good.
GOD BLESS KELLY BLANCHARD. She writes her notes out during lecture, which makes it super easy to follow along. I think I opened my textbook once the entire semester, and that was just so I didn't feel like I wasted my money. Tests are kind of difficult, but there are tons of past exams available to study from (she keeps her them very similar).
She's a really great professor. She explains topics clearly and thoroughly.
Kelly Blanchard is amazing. Considering yourself lucky if you take a class that she teaches, amazing clarity, goes over topics thoroughly, and is easy to follow and understand. With that, there are not many ways to earn points in the class. DO WELL on exams, they are hard. GO TO CLASS, free hotseat extra credit points ( they add up).
Blanchard is good at what she does, explains the material in understandable terms, and makes herself available to students.
GO TO CLASS, TAKE GOOD NOTES, & STUDY FOR EXAMS. Very nice lady, lots of examples and thorough notes. There is a lot of information in that class and exams are concept heavy. If you are not good at economics, be prepared. The class moves quickly. If you fall behind or have questions seek help asap.
Kelly is a great professor that knows how to translate these concepts into a more basic explanation that's easy to follow. She's also very approachable and is very reasonable with homework.
Helpful and kind.
As an international student, I highly recommend this professor to your guys. Reall y great notes and no accents. Many extra credits for your attendance.
She is very sweet and personable during lectures, but the material can become very heavy. The class does require a good amount of out of class work, but she is always willing to help you. Exams are fairly difficult. The homework is very helpful.
Difficult test. Go to class take good notes is not enough. Study hard. Really really hard or else you will not get good grade.
Blanchard is an amazing professor: teaches the concepts clearly and attempts to make it as simple as possible with real-life examples. The tests are pretty hard--doing the homework (easy 100%) helps your grade and to understand the information.
This class relies heavily on the tests. It is 100% lecture, and it gets very boring. Your grade will be made up of 12 homework assignments and 3 tests. She adds in extra credit every now and then which is nice. Take this if you can be happy sitting in a class for 75 minutes without speaking to anyone and listening to the prof blab on and on.
Overall, really good professor. Would definitely recommend taking her class. Extra credit points for doing hotseat questions in class. Not the easiest class ever, but not too difficult either. Grade is almost all exams with a few homework points.
Excellent professor and person in general.
Awesome professor, good at teaching large groups of students. Extra credit if you do hotseat questions, (basically show up to lectures), and while exams are similar to old practice exams I still learned a lot.
She was very nice. They class is structured for you to succeed with the extra credit but the material can become dense if you do not show up to class. Kelly made me want to come to class, I was never bored during class and I found a love for learning through this class.
Amazing professor! Had some trouble staying awake in lectures, but that's mostly due to the time at which lecture starts. While attendance is not mandatory since she uses BoilerCast to record her lectures, extra credits help towards your final grades. Put in some effort reviewing her lectures and you'll get your A.
She writes the notes along with the class during the lectures, so that is helpful if you aren't the fastest note taker. The book is necessary for the code to have access to the homework, but nothing is ever assigned from it. Her review day the class before exams was always helpful.
She is a great professor, just do not take an early class (like I did) or you will miss very important material. She explains the subject matter well. It is also recommended you go to class as the 15 extra credit point buffer can save your grade.
Dr. Blanchard is very straight forward. The class is not a cake walk and not something that can be blown off, but she keeps her exams relatively consistent and releases previous ones. If you study them and watch her lectures, they're pretty easy.
If Blanchard ran for president I would vote for her. In all seriousness, I feel like she was one of my best teachers at Purdue. Even though my grade wasn't an A i did learn a heck of a lot more than I thought I would and it actually brought me to eventually minor in Econ. She's a very helpful teacher and very knowledgable as well.
Professor Blanchard's class is the only power hour I don't mind going to, she's a great instructor! Her lectures and class notes are easy to follow along with and she explains things very well. It is not hard to do well in this course if you pay attention in class and use the practice exams to help you study for the exams.
Mrs. Blanchard is an amazing teacher and cares about her students. She is enthusiastic to be teaching Economics and knows her material really well. I would highly suggest for students to take her as a professor because your learn a lot, but you will have to work your grade. Every time I email her, she gets back to me quickly with a detailed answer.
I found this class to be very easy. Don't buy the book, just get the access code for HW (and it comes with review material). If you do past exams (weekly joys has a ton) and go to class (especially for hot seat points) you will be fine. Maybe 1 hr. of work a week outside of class (other than exam weeks).
Gives little opportunities and makes her tests super hard and nothing like the homework or what is taught in class. Hands down the hardest class I have ever taken and is very stressful and is not enjoyable. I would not take it unless it's mandatory. She's nice but I feel like her class is too extreme.
Her lectures are just amazing.
Not that good of a professor, constantly rambles about subjects that could be taught in a quarter of the time. She knows what she is talking about but seems to explain subjects in a way that is just not clear at all.
She is a great professor, however, her exams are difficult. You must study for them and take several practice exams in order to do well in the class. Also attend lecture for the Hotseat Questions, they make a difference in the end. There is not really a curve in the class.
Dr. Blanchard takes a dull, gen-ed course and makes it interesting. Shes an excellent professor and explains topics really well. Extra credit is given for correctly answering pop-quiz questions (1/week). If you've ever taken an economics course before just come to class , take notes on key points, and you'll get an easy A. Nice GPA boost
Dr. Blanchard is one of the best professors I have had during my time at Purdue. She really cares about what she teaches, and she wants every student to succeed. Super approachable and will answer any questions you have. Great at slowing down and using lots of examples to help students understand the material. If you can take her class, do it!!!
I can tell that she knows what shes talking about but when I cant say the same about me when I listen to her lectures. I feel like she rambles on about subjects that dont make any sense or have any relevance. Her teaching method is really unorganized which makes it harder for me to learn. Also, she talks as if we know what shes talking about..
Attend all lectures and take notes. You won't need a textbook. Do all homework assignments, Hotseat questions, and past year papers and you'll be fine.
Prof. Blanchard is amazing. She's super personable and her lectures are interesting, though econ really isn't. She has great stories to go along with econ concepts and she always draws pictures and uses examples. Tests are difficult, so studying is a must. Participation points are extra credit, so go to class to answer the Hotseat questions!
Great professor!
Her tests are so hard and the homework is worth nothing. I dont like that your class grade is solely based on exams.
Honestly, class was not as difficult as people make it out to be, just put in time. Lecture isn't mandatory but the extra credit HotSeat questions really are a grade booster. Take notes in lecture, they'll help come exam time. All exams are very similar to the ones she posts on blackboard, so study those and you'll do good on the exams.
Very nice and clear. Makes great examples in class
The tests are very tough, but if you go to class you can do hotseat questions for extra credit points. The tests are really tough, but she posts the previous two tests so you have something to study from.
She knows her stuff. Would really like to commend her for teaching the same material three times a day (since there's three sections), without losing any enthusiasm. She speaks clearly and it is easy to understand her. Go to class for the hotseat points, because of it I almost got a perfect score of 296/300.
She is a brilliant professor who really puts in an effort to help her students grasp the concepts.
She's the best professor I've had at Purdue so far (1 semester). She makes you feel like an Economics genius and is really kind, helpful and uses brilliant examples.
BEST Professor I had Purdue WL (so far). Unfortunately, she just teaches ECON 251:(
Great professor! Her lectures are concise and straightforward; she's also super nice if you talk to her during office hours. Tests are hard but they're easy if you put in the effort and study for them.
Professor Blanchard does not use powerpoint presentations when teaching, instead she writes out each step on a projector, making material easy to follow. She has extra credit quizzes in class, and will tell the class the answer before the closes the Hotseat. Taking the class for H credit is just one more project, which is fun and graded generously.
If you're in any science related field, this class will be a breeze.
The best professor I had for freshman year first semester! She really cares about students and gives many extra credits. She posts boilercast so that even if you don't attend the class you still can get an A. The exams are not hard if you review all her notes she had during lectures. Textbook is not mandatory.
She is a very good professor who cares her students a lot. Attendance is just for extra credits and handwriting notes is very useful. Listen the lectures carefully and take the sample exams! GETTING AN A IS NOT DIFFICULT!
Kelly was very personable and caring, Her lectures were clear and concise and not boring at all. I went to her office hours once and she was very nice and ask nice questions. Over a year later she saw me and asked how everything was going with what we had talked about the previous year! Awesome prof! Awesome person!
Kelly Blanchard is an amazing micro prof, she explains things very well to her students and makes sure that you understand the content. Her exams are very easy and are so similar to the practice exams she gives out as study material. There are hot seat questions in class that give you extra credit and she puts her lectures on boilercast.
Her lectures are helpful but her exams are way to hard. The book doesnt help
She is one of the best Professors I ever had! She is one of those people who take passion in teaching and make sure the students enjoy and learn along the way. Idk what people who rate her badly are up to... Get a life peeps! Wish Kelly all the very best!
Amazing Professor. Lectures were very helpful and she is very good and making the information easy to understand. Up to 12 extra credit points can be awarded for hotseats and there's one homework per week. The only downside is that her exams are very difficult average is usually a 70. She gives old exams to review as well. Always offers help.
really easy exams if you prepare. Also go to classes for the hotseat questions
Solid choice
She was very understanding with homework load and really took the time to teach the class during lectures. Strikes me as a high school teacher.
Kelly is a great professor, probably one of the best at Purdue. MicroEcon is just really hard. She gives access to past exams which help a lot for preparing for exams. She helped me numerous times out of class which I appreciated. The class is tough, but can be rewarding.
Teacher is hard to understand, gives 1.5 hour lectures and is extremely boring, material is difficult and requires tons of studying
Dr. Blanchard is a fantastic professor who is not only passionate about economics, but teaching. She knows how to present material in a logical and intuitive way, and she's always willing to help if you're struggling. Definitely go to her office hours, even if it's just to chat- she's an incredibly cool and caring person!
Great professor! If you have any quantitative background and an ability to sit down and understand the material for a few hours before the exams you will do fine. HW is a guaranteed 100%. Show up to lecture to get an in-depth understanding of what is going on and to get free points.
Dr. Blanchard is a great lecturer. This is the first I have taken an ECON course, and she made the material easier to understand. She's funny and comes up with good examples. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Attendance is technically not mandatory, but you can get extra credit by answering the hot seat questions so you might as well go! I personally had a difficult time in the course because I didn't put in enough work, so it's not a totally free A. Her lectures are really good though and she uses logical, real-life examples to explain the material!
I would not recommend taking this course if you are not a business major. The material is hard to understand, and the lectures are not engaging at all. Studying for this class is extremely hard because there are no powerpoints.
Amazing lecturer, econ did not make sense until Kelly B. She breaks everything down so well and will help if you do not understand something. Homework is easy and redo-able and extra credit is a huge help.
Took this class as a first semester freshman with no economics course background. There are only 300 points total, 40 points from homework which you get 100% on, and 260 points from three exams. The three exams are two midterms and then the final. There are only 12 points of extra credit which is easy to get. She lectures the entire class.
First off, she is an amazing person and lecturer. She has a very kind and nurturing spirit and she really cares about all of her students. I highly recommend her honors version. MEET OFTEN FOR THE PROJECT AND MAKE A SCHEDULE. Do not procrastinate on the project, it will only add unnecessary stress to your finals week. Do redo hw's to get 100%.
Professor Blanchard is one of the best you'll get at Purdue. Although ECON251 is a fairly tough class to take, she is clear and concise with the lectures and provides engaging examples with about one to two extra credit opportunities every week.
Fully prepares you for exam. Minimal homework.
All around an awesome lady. Her lectures are fun and pretty easy to understand. Homework isn't too difficult. Her exams can be somewhat tough but she does a good job at make sure she is available if you have questions about the material.
Professor Blanchard will probably end up teaching you Econ 251 if you choose to take it. It is a great class with straightforward and understandable material that she explains well. I strongly advise attending lectures because you WILL do better if you go to class and answer the hotseat questions.
Great professor! Gives great simple examples to understand concepts clearly. Responds to mail for any kind of homework or concept related doubts. Properly explains complicated numerical. Keeps Hotseat questions almost every class for Extra Credit. Never felt bored in her class.
I personally struggled a lot with the class, and I went to every lecture. I guess I'm just not that good at Microeconomics, but Kelly was a great professor, and she always gave feedback.
She's extremely caring and nice, but sometimes she goes a bit too slowly in class. If you've never done econ before, she is an amazing teacher because she uses lots of examples and real-life scenarios to teach the class. Overall, she a very sweet and caring teacher that is willing to help outside of class.
Easily one of my favorite professors at Purdue, she explains the material well and helps students prepare for tests well.
super easy and straightforward class, attendance is extra credit, and lectures are on boilercast, but her examples are so interesting, going to class isn't even bad. Exams are very reasonable and homework is impossible not to get 100% on.
Prof. Blanchard is a great professor. This class is manageable but seems to be easier for the STEM majors who are taking it as a pre-req. I've taken the class twice, and it just requires a different type of learning. Also, the huge Elliot hall exams gave me so much anxiety I would literally blank. STUDY GUIDE IS ESSENTIAL.
Gotta love Kelly "Did you know too much cinnamon is bad for you" Blanchard
Blanchard is an amazing professor. Her examples are always very clear and easy to follow. The tests are pretty similar to the past exams so if you do well on those before the test it's a pretty accurate indicator of how you'll do on the actual exam.
Professor Blanchard is an amazing professor. She explains the material in a way that is easy to follow and interesting. There is also no reason for a person to not get 100% on all the homework.
Dr. Blanchard was one of the best professor I ever met. Her lectures were amazing Class materials were quite difficult, but during the class, she did various demonstrations that helped me to understand materials better. Attendance is not required, however, I highly recommend to go to class. It will help you get a satisfying grade on exams.
Prof Blanchard's classes are very informative. Lectures are not required, but attending will allow you a good portion of extra credit through Hot Seat questions. lots of examples are given during lectures, and those examples translate very closely to the exams, so pay attention. She is well versed in the topic and an overall great professor.
Dr. Blanchard was a great professor. I took the Honors section, and had a great experience with it. I wouldn't call it an easy A, because you definitely have to go to class and study for it, but there were numerous ways to be successful in the course. She even hosted review sessions over Zoom after we switched to online classes b/c of COVID-19.
Great professor who really cares. Exams that have textbook access.
Overall, she seemed like a nice lady. ECON 251 is a workload and you really have to buckle down if you want to pass. I am not an ECON major, nor had any interest, but I had to take this class for a core credit. I ended up withdrawing because I was taking 17 credit hours and ECON 251 was too much for me. I would not recommend taking as a freshman.
Professor Blanchard did the best that she could when converting ECON 251 to an online class due to COVID. I dont fully blame her for the class being extra difficult to learn online simply due to the personal difficulties of learning in an online environment. The class is VERY exam heavy, so make sure to use your resources as best as you can.
She's an amazing professor. Very non partisan in the way she presents political issues that tie into economics. She always responds to emails fast, and is always willing to help you one on one for anything. She's just a great person overall and although I'm sure I didn't receive an A in her class, I still learned plenty from her course.
The entire class was asynchronous, so my experience with the professor is based on her videos. Her videos do a fine job explaining, nothing outstanding but not bad. The videos generally cover all the material, but reading through the textbook chapter in parallel doesn't hurt.
This class was online, which wasnt the best in my opinion. She explains things fine, but I tanked the exams. She doesnt release test grades quickly, even though they are machine graded, so does she do it just to be cruel? Im trying to figure out if I need to retake this next semester, and shes the only class that I dont know my grade.
No. Just no. I did take this class online but I hated every second. I tanked the exams and it just was not an enjoyable class. It was to the point where I had to get a 70% on the final in order to pass the class with a D... thank the lord I did. She did end up curving the grade so it was even higher, but I hated every second of this class. Torture
Prof Blanchard was awesome! I had her the first semester of my freshman year and had a great experience in her class. She gives tons of great examples that help clarify some concepts. But beware- the course is very exam heavy so you definitely have to study and work for it. Overall, I really enjoyed her class and would recommend taking it!
If you wanna take an ECON class, choose her. Ignore those who complain all the time. She is a teacher who will answer students' emails as soon as possible. She does everything a teacher can do to be the best.
Only homework and exam grades.
Professor Kelly Blanchard gave sub par lectures that did not help on homework or exams. Exam material was significantly harder than material covered in class. Avoid if you can. Condolences if you can't.
By and large one of the worst courses I have taken. Professor Blanchard's lectures were of little to no help during the entirety of the course. I had to learn from the book and hope for the best. Her exam was prohibitively difficult despite the class as a whole expressing concerns about where we were at. Terrible class, avoid at all costs!
This was the worst class I have ever taken. This professor is an abysmal excuse for quality.
I'll be honest, ECON 25100 is not for me. I've taken this class multiple times and it isn't at fault of the professor. She is great and tried to help me as much as she could but it just would not click. She is fantastic
I think it is really ridiculous that 86% of grade in this class is based off of 3 total exams. The exams are also NOTHING like the homework or lecture. It's really bad that the average on an open note, open book exam range 70-75%, which in my opinion is extremely low. This class is for my minor and is by far the most difficult class I have taken.
Course material is simply the same as in high school . Exams are easy with a lot of time per question. You can often complete the exam with only a half of the time. Past papers questions also showed up in real exam. And she gave a tons of extra credit. So it's definitely an EASY A.
Professor Blanchard knows the content well and wants you to succeed. She makes it easy for you to know exactly what is required of you. The one thing is though that the way she explains things is often through specific examples and it makes it hard to apply the content to different contexts. Overall, not horrible.
This class is difficult. It is hard to stay concentrated. The lectures are long and it feels as if they did not put the exams and homework into proper practice. I think there should have been more practice problems that are similar to exams. Also, your grade is 86% exams. This is a class I wanted over and wanted to mark off my list. Yikes.
She is very considerate. I missed my finals because I was sick she was very understanding and let me take the make up exam
Prof. Blanchard seemed very nice and open to help anyone who asked. This class is difficult since exams are worth so much of your grade. Extra credit is also limited, so it can be hard to improve your grade without doing extremely well on the exams.
I don't understand how anyone can rate Prof Blanchard poorly. She is the best! She makes her lectures very interesting (the best I have ever experienced) and gives out easy extra credit that can raise your final grade up to 6%. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS TO STUDY. The practice exams are very similar to the real exams. It is easy to get over 100
Prof. Blanchard provides exactly what you need to both learn and retain the material she teaches as well as clear support for the exams in the class. Exams are open-note and open-book, but this does not translate to higher difficulty. Take good notes, jot down key phrases she emphasizes, and you will do spectacular before extra credit factors in.
Personnel Economics was a great class. It was in my first semester of the program and Dr. Blanchard was extremely helpful and had clear expectations. Would take her classes again.
I took the course this summer. I just watched the lectures and did the past papers, these two were more than enough to achieve an A in the course . The lectures are easy to follow and extremely helpful.
I think Prof. Blanchard is a great professor, in part my middle of the pack grade was my fault and also can be attributed to the online format. However, I think she is extremely informative, and really wants to make sure everyone understands the concepts provided.
Easy class and great professor. She is super nice and explains the topics well. You get extra credit just for showing up to class and have one easy hw a week. Exam heavy but the exams are easy if you pay attention or study (you dont really need to do both). She also puts out exam answers the next day with I really appreciate.
Class is exam heavy
She has lots of extra credit. Reading the book and going to SI is what saved my grade in this class. Blanchard is very kind and helpful when you go to her office hours. Her class is more work than you think it will be so make sure to put in plenty of time studying on your own time.
Class is really exam heavy, but she is really good at explaining everything and her lectures make sense. Go to class to get the hotseat questions (they are extra credit and help SO much with your grade)
Professor Blanchard is an amazing professor; she knows what shes talking about and explains her material in an understandable way. ECON251 is exam heavy, with exams making up most of your grade in the class. Doing the weekly homework, completing practice exams, and reviewing notes will get you a good grade in the class.
Ms. Blanchard was really good during the lectures. She made the concepts easy to understand and answered every question thoroughly. Hotseat extra-credit questions come in clutch, and you can always wait til the end for the answer and the EC. All exams are multiple choice, and you can re-do the HW to get 100%. Make sure you review the past exams.
Professor Blanchard teaches each topic of econ clearly. She provides many opportunities to get help and truly shows a passion for her job. She uses real world examples related to Purdue which is nice. She also gives past exams as resources to study for the exams with. She also provides many extra credit opportunities to take advantage of.
She is very knowledgeable and a good communicator. She gave curves and extra credit to help out those who struggled initially. Homework was easy, and exams were manageable with some studying.
Blanchard is amazing. Pay attention to her lectures and you will absorb so much.
While my brain isn't built for economics, Kelly does a wonderful job of explaining basic economic concepts. Homework isn't hard and it's possible to get 100% on every single homework. Course is exam HEAVY and if you can't pass the exams there is no hope for you, but luckily the exams are not that bad. If you do homework and study for exams you good
She is a great professor! Very dedicated to helping her students learn and amazing at explaining course content. She reviews the content before exams very well and provides many practice resources for you beforehand. Exams are very straightforward. This year, there are three exams and a final. Your lowest exam is dropped (final can be dropped).
Extra credit for going to lecture 12 times
Your final grade comes 80% from 3 exams. There are 4 total exams, but you get to drop your lowest. This was certainly my easiest class of the semester and she has been teaching the class for many years, which is apparent. There is a lot of note taking during lectures, but you get used to it.
Kelly is a good professor however, her style of teaching is just not for me. All she does is draw the same graph over and over again on a blank piece of paper. For me this style of teaching does not work. If she had the class a little more organized with the notes proportion of lecture and went over more practice problems, I would have done better.
Allows other students to talk to the class about clubs and other events
There is a maximum of twelve HotSeat extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. Exams account for most of the total points. However, Professor Blanchard provides review sessions and practice exams to help you succeed on the exams. Additionally, your lowest exam score is dropped and you can easily earn 100% on all the homework assignments.
I enjoyed taking Blanchard's class. She made economics easy with fun examples that helped me understand and remember the material.
Very sweet lady but I found her teaching methods boring and repetitive. Also exams were heavily weighted so there was not much wiggle room with points aside from the exams
Kelly is a wonderful lecturer who explains every relevant concept in great detail. The course is fairly easy, so you can skip class if you want, but she gave extra credit quizzes at about half of the lectures for the people who attended. Exams make up most of the grade, but they are all multiple choice and she gives dozens of practice problems.
I previously took this class in the spring and slacked off, ended up failing and had to retake in the summer. The course was 4 weeks so it was very intense. Lectures were good, and she is accommodating. As long as you put in the work, watch the lectures, read the textbook, and take multiple of the practice exams, you'll get an A.
The class was alright. Kelly Blanchard is a very sweet lady and is definitely willing to help you if you ask for it, but given the class was taught in a massive lecture hall with 200+ people, there isn't a lot of 1-on-1 help during lectures. Definitely go to office hours, rewatch lecture videos, AND GO TO LECTURE FOR BONUS HOTSEAT POINTS!!!
very good professor
The lectures have hotseat however without going to the lectures the class can be very difficult and you won't do well on the exams. Exams are in person and there are online homework assignments.
For a class that I never attended in person, this professor did an excellent job of explaining things with examples that students would understand. Her exams were not difficult, just study the homework and practice exams and you'll be set. When I took this class, we had an exam drop, so I recommend dropping your final as it was mostly old content
One of the best professors I have ever had at Purdue. Her explanations of economics concepts are by far some of the most intuitive I have seen. The homeworks and exams are easy, and the hotseat extra credit is the cherry on top.
Professor Blanchard is a very transparent professor who clearly explains the material and communicates all deadlines. The lectures are clearly taught and set up in a manner to make it easy to pay attention. Would take one of her courses again!
Exams are in person, homework is online
Engaging lectures, easy exams. Use unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook for efficient prep. Mandatory attendance, but worth it for the insightful examples.
This class was math focused. Her lectures were engaging and very clear. The homeworks were pretty straight-forward and easy as long as you went to the lecture. She was pretty responsive in emailing.
