I had a lot of fun in this class. Kelly is very nice and tells good stories. But she does kinda have a nagging quality to her voice that can get pretty annoying after awhile, other than that shes great. She never assigned homework and always let us out early. Kelly was a great teacher to have. SHe has a TON of energy and loves to talk about her son and ex-husband but it relates to the class. She is going to have a baby in the summer 07. Attendance is required and a huge part of ur grade. she tells u exactly what is on the tests. write one paper but it is sooo easy.

Makes the class very easy to teach. Tells you everything you need to know to pass. All you have to do is go to class and take notes. I didnt even need to study

GREAT teacher. Very helpful, knows her stuff, and is willing to help with things from other classes, advising, and life issues as well. Very fun and interesting discussions, easy tests, extra credit, and 3 free absences.

Probably one of the greatest instructors at the University...however don't take her for granted because she'll help you out all the way, but she will NOT round up grades. I had a 69.7, and she didn't give me the .3 points. I blamed myself for that. Overall, very personable and knowledgable! Enjoy!

SHE MOST DEFINETLY KNEW THE COURSE INFROMATION. NOTES WERE EXTREMLY PERCISE, INFACT THE ONLY TIME THAT YOU MAY NEED THE BOOK IS TO WRITE YOUR RESEARCH PAPER. ATTENDENCE IS NOT MANDATORY, BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO REFER TO YOUR AS FAR AS STUDYING FOR THE EXAMS THAN COME TO CLASS TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING. ATTENDENCE HELPS YOUR GRADE!!!

I found her to be an amazing teacher. She made the class fun and lectures were NOT boring. She can easily relate to the students, and loves teaching. I had her class at 9 am and never complained about having to get up because I loved listening to her soo much. The class itself was easy-go to class, take notes, review them, and you'll be fine!

Amazing teacher!!! You have to be in class because she will randomly take attendance. She expects you to do your work, but she doesn't assign a ton of it and if she assigns an paper, she fully explains what she expects and will help you if you go see her or email her. Take her classes if you can!!! Best teacher in FCNS at NIU.

I love Kelly. She is always so helpful and makes even the most boring stuff fun to learn. I love the way we interacted with our classmates. We used the book, however I felt the powerpoints and exercises were more helpful. I loved this class!

Kelly is an amazing teacher. She makes every class entertaining no matter what the topic. She gives out extra credit and will randomly give you attendance points just for showing up to class. She tells you exactly what will be on the tests so there are no surprises. Great teacher! If you have the chance to have her as a teacher take it!

Soooooo easy. don't buy the book. a ton of extra credit. she tells you ahead of time when class participation will be. material covered is mostly common sense. take this class with her, and only her.

Kelly is an AMAZING teacher. She made Death and Dying a class that was upbeat and not depressing! This has been one of my favorite classes so far!! =)

DONT BUY THE BOOK!!She is on my favorite list of professors at NIU!makes the lectures fun and not boring. She gives a TON of extra credit and she is helpful. I have got Cs on every test(didn't study) andI have an 95%in the course because of the insane amount to extra credit!!Overall if you need a GPA booster this is the course..and you learn a lot!

Pretty laid back class, enjoyed it and it was a nice laid back atmosphere.

I loved going to class! She went over a lot of relevant material! If things that she taught didn't happen in your family chances are it happened in a friend's family! She was thorough in what she expected from her students and wanted to see everyone do well!

Kelly is the best! One of the best teachers in the FCNS department, hands down! I wasn't sure what to expect, and I wasn't interested in the class material, but Kelly made it interesting and fun. And she is willing to help anyone at any time - a fantastic teacher! I will definitely take one of her classes again!!

One of the easiest & best teachers. She gives you all the ppt notes at the beginning of the semester. Everything is self explanatory and crystal clear. The material is sometimes interesting and the work is pretty much super easy. I had her for a 6-840 class. We were pretty much always out by 7:15. You have to love her. She's an easy A.

I absolutely love Kelly. So nice, so helpful. Best teacher i've had from NIU. She doesn't require a ton of work out of you, but you have to do the work she does assign. Class attendance is 100% necessary.. but this was my 8am class and it was the only class I never wanted to skip. That tells you something. Highly reccomended!!

Kelly is awesome. Child Abuse and Neglect must be a hard class to teach considering the topic, but she manages to do so perfectly. She is understanding, and makes engages the class on a daily basis. I highly recommend taking her for this class.

Professor Champion, such a nice woman, he expectation of students is EXTREMELY reasonable . 3 tests, 1 paper, no trick tests and easy outline for the paper. Not mandatory that you attend class, but you will miss out on participation points!! Only downfall is that class does get off track occasionally from what we are to be learning.

Kelly is seriously awesome! She was so down to earth and made the class really interesting. It was kind of a breeze class but It was really interesting subject matter if you like psych or soc!!

I took FCNS 230 and 280 with Kelly Champion. She is the best professor at NIU. She is easy tells students what she is expecting to know for test. do not miss class you will miss extra credit oportunity

I really enjoyed her class, I advise going to class because you will get extra credit. If you ever need help on an assignment just make sure to email her ahead of time because she usually doesn't check her emails on the weekends. She does respond to her emails though. When it comes to tests, she puts out study guides. Just read from the book!

She is super cool and she makes the content super easy to understand. Showing up to class sometimes gets you extra credit. She grades papers based on wither you did it or not

This professor is amazing! She is very clear with what she expects her students to know. For tests she gives study guides and points out which things from the study guide will be on the test. Go to class every day because she randomly gives extra credit. There are only 4 tests and 4-5 writing assignments (which are completion grades for 20 points).

kelly is the extra credit queen! LOVE HER LOVE HER LOVE HER! She makes sure she gives you more than enough information to pass her class. Her test and papers are not hard if you come to class participate and go over your notes you will be sure to pass.

For those who need to know what is going to be on an exam or the final she gives you a study guide for all exams and the final. She's very outgoing and she's there to help you succeed in the class. She grades on time.

This class was really easy and I really liked Kelly as a teacher. She gives study guides for her tests and the information on the study guides is what is on the test. And the tests are not that hard. There is a big paper at the end of the semester but if you do all the requirements you will get a 100% on it. She also gives tons of EC!

This class is great for learning about diversity. You get to work on a group project at the end. She is a great professor. Her tests are not too bad. And she gives you most of the points just for completing the assignment.

Champion is an amazing professor. She has the best stories and interesting lectures. It is not required to go to class but she does give extra credit at times. Her homework isn't hard and the study guides outline everything on the test. Would recommend to take her for any class you can.

LOVE THIS TEACHER. She's very easy going. Everything is outlined from the power points in the class to what's going to be on the tests. I have taken a lot of classes with her and I love the classes. DO NOT be late. If you don't show up on time for a test you will get locked out. Other than that perfect teacher to take.

3 tests the whole semester worth 300 points each. 1 paper that has to be 8 pages worth 100 points. Random attendance days worth 20 points (100 points all together)

Kelly is a wonderful instructor. She is very clear from the start about what the class entails. She reviews the schedule every class period. Make sure to do the paper early and get it turned in because otherwise she might not have time to see you. Just do what she says and study from the book a bit for the tests but focus on her study guide

GREAT PROFESSOR. She helped me so much throughout the semester and was so understanding. Lectures were never boring because of the stories she has and will work very well with with you if she sees how dedicated you are to the class. It is a bit tough to maintain a good grade because there are only 3 grades taken. Midterm, final, and paper.

She will not let you turn in any late work! No EXCEPTIONS! Overall one of the best FCNS professors at NIU!

If you want a teacher that makes the material meaningful, take kelly champion. Shes the best professor I've had at NIU. She makes you want to come to class, and genuinely cares about all of her students. She doesn't ask a lot from you, and simply wants you to learn more about yourself through her class. Shes the best!

Easy class if you're willing to put the work in. For each chapter, there are learnsmarts and that is the only homework you will have. I will admit at tedious, BUT they are easy points! All homework and exams are online. There is also one paper! There are days where she gives extra credit for being in lecture Overall, Kelly is a great prof!

I go to class every day and have an absolute blast, this is my second class with Kelly and I definitely intend on taking more. The homework are learnsmarts, and as long as you complete them you get a 10/10. Exams are easy, and she does random in-class participation points. I cannot wait to take more classes with Kelly!

Kelly is an amazing teacher. Her class is mainly doing learnsmarts but for her HDFS 284 course they are SHORT unlike her other classes. She also takes attendance points randomly and are worth a good chunk of your grade so you decide whether you want to go or not. Other than that everything is essentially online both hw and tests.

I had Kelly for HDFS 280 honors and regular 230 this year. She was overall pretty good. Her lectures were boring sometimes and the learnsmarts are horrible but you have a few weeks to do them. I got an A and a B+ but know she WONT round grades. I had an 89.78%. Id take her again especially because theres only one paper for regular sections

Dr. Champion is funny and welcoming. She can be shady too, so don't be disrespectful to her. She won't stand for it. Everything is based on learnsmarts and a paper, both of which are easy but time consuming. I liked her class and her stories, shes a fun teacher.

I had her for HDFS 280 last semester and now have her for 230 and 284 this semester lol but she is a pretty decent teacher. All the hw and exams are online so its literally an easy A, textbook is used for online course for Learnsmart so thats isnt bad. Does ramble a lot and randomly gives out in class ec pts. Lectures are pointless though.

I personally enjoyed her class! She's funny and she goes pretty fast through the lecture so it doesn't drag. Your grade is based on whether or not you complete the learn smarts and how well you do on the exam (which is all at home). It's almost like an online class, so if you don't like online classes don't take this course.

I love her. You have to work hard and I really respect her. She works with the student and will answer questions. I have already planned to take more classes with her. She is honestly such a mama bear and I LOVED coming to her classes. I had two with her my first semester at NIU and she really made it enjoyable and I actually learned things.

You don't really need to attend lecture. She posts the PowerPoints online and that's where all of the homework and tests are too. Champion is funny and easy to get along with, overall an easy class.

It is an easy class as long as you do the work. She also does NOT accept late assignments! I rated her a 4 because you have to learn the materials on your own to fully understand it.

VERY lecture heavy. Mostly reads off of slides, but she will show videos, tell stories, etc. to make it more interesting. She assigned 20 learnsmart chapters, each taking about 3 hours. Be prepared to set time aside for this class. Exams are easy. Overall great professor that makes the content more fun to learn.
