Dr. Lancaster is great, good teacher, fair grader and sticks to his guns. He wants his class to be fun and be enjoyed, but he won't let anyone get off with slacking.

He's an **** and I don't recommend him for this particular class because he approached it more as a theater class for majors, not a foundation class, but he seems like he'd be really good as a theater prof., just not speech :)

I think Prof Lancaster is a great guy. Didn't at first....failed his class once....my fault. Second time I realized that he is totally fair and just wants us to succeed. Over all just a real nice dude.

I really learned a lot in dr. lancasters class, and some would think speech would suck, but he made it interesting. if you are really preparred and have confidence in yourself in speaking you will do well. there arent many speeches you wil be giving which is nice for work load, but also make sure you prepare for those few speeches cause they coun

lancaster is an excellent professor...very clear insturctions and very helpful. the only students who hate him are the ones who do not follow directions or do not get the work done on time. his class wa a lot of fun for those of us willing to put forth a little effort. it was a real pain for slackers.

lancaser is amazing. i so didn't want to take speech but he makes it fairly fun, and way less uncomfortable than i thought it would be. he spells out exactly what he wants so you really can't go wrong. he says to practice your speeches alot but you really dont need to. i just winged most. hes awesome, and takes cig breaks with us.

He is great: flamboyant, descriptive of assignments, funny and personable. He has some strict rules for speech about time limits and having a perfect outline, but just check it before your speech and you'll be fine. if you have an A at the end, you can skip the last class and dont have to take the final. he makes speech fun and less stressful

he is an amazing teacher! I found his class relaxing and im insanely shy. It gave me the confidence to give tours at work. Hes got a great sense of humor. Loves to teach and loves SCAD students! To top it off he remembers me and says hi to me when he sees me around town, remembers my name even after a year. To me that says a lot. TAKE THE MAN

Dr. Lancaster is very strict to his syllabus, but very funny. His instructions are very clear, and he's willing to meet you after and during class. Great guy.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. He's extremely funny and nice. He gives sample speeches and sample outlines for EVERY assignment, which helped a lot. Follows the syllabus he gives you to a T. Amazing professor. Take him!

Prof Lancaster was an amazing prof. Funny and entertaining, he made speech class a blast. I absolutely dreaded this class, but he made it so fun that it became one of my favorites. people who hate speech should take him because he's really easy too. He is rather strict on assignment requirements and datelines but meet them and u'll get full marks.

This man is amazing. No text book is required,but note taking is a must (or you just wait a day and he'll send you the notes via email. He understands how nerves and Public Speaking work and he doesn't waste your time in or outside of class. He's always open to questions and he has a good sense of humor. I Public Speaking is what you need TAKE HIM!

I was SO nervous about speech class, and this is my favorite class ever hands down. He is also the best teacher I've ever had. It's a fairly easy class. He is very understanding and witty. He makes every class interesting and enjoyable; remember I have this class at 8AM Monday morning and I am not a morning person!

Decent class. I don't like how he rambles about things that have nothing to do with the matter at hand, but he is very clear about what he wants for your assignments. He also has some interesting/amusing stories.

He's inflexible about deadlines and format but very clear on what exactly you need to do. Just follow his instructions and you should have no problem getting an A. Also has optional study sessions outside of class for every major assignment. E-mails you notes from each lecture.

He was such a fun teacher, I had no problem paying attention. He's very strict to deadlines though. The class was tough but it's manageable. He did make a comment to another class about me that was both rude and uncalled for (regarding me being absent). When I confronted him about it, he completely backpedaled and felt bad about it.

Prof Lancaster is an excellent teacher. Only problem I saw with him is that he is inflexible with requirements and deadlines but his instructions are clear and his requirements are not hard to meet at all. I was dreading taking speech at the start of the quarter and I ended up really liking it and getting an A. TAKE HIM, you wont be dissapointed.

Lancaster is ridiculous. He grades really hard if you are a nervous speaker, and really easy if you are already comfortable around crowds. He makes lame jokes and wants you to laugh at him every time. He also spends half the class showing useless youtube videos for no reason.

Lancaster is so nice, and he's hilarious. But if you're a nervous speaker/procrastinator like me the class is hard. The days you're going over topics are fun, but then speech day comes and you get graded pretty tough. He does provide you with everything you need to make a good grade, you just have to really fight to get it and pursue extra help.

Best professor ever! Dr. Lancaster is hilarious, and a REAL teacher, not a cookie-cutter, textbook bashing machine. He uses the best examples, and taught us all that Thursday night is in fact, party night. I was not comfortable speaking at all and my first time up there was a breeze! You'll love it!

He is an awesome teacher if you are a hard worker. His assignments are crystal clear and unless you are a slacker there is no way you can't earn an A. If you work hard you will earn an A but if you don't do your work you will fail no doubt.

He grades a little tough, but he gives you sample outlines with exactly what he wants. Two of the most helpful things he does: a practice, non-graded speech introducing each other where he points out minor flaws, and he actually holds up flash cards with your timing for speeches, so you know exactly how much time you have left!

great teacher, he is passionate and cares about his students. He gives you many examples and is just a fun teacher that makes the class interesting. I was nervous going into the class, but if you put in the effort you have many opportunities to get an A. If you have an A right before the final you dont have to take it and you get an A in the class.

I really enjoyed this professor. Sucking up is helpful he loves it and gives you extra points in the grade book no lie. He keeps the lectures interesting and I rarely got bored. He is very fair with grading and you must be prepared for your speeches, presentation aids and all. I would recommend this professor to everyone get him if you can!

Professor Lancaster makes public speaking a lot less intimidating because he prepares you well for speeches. He tells you exactly what he wants for every assignment and you can always ask him to review your work before submitting it. He was funny and made class really interesting. Don't be terrified of public speaking! I'd definitely recommend him.

I didn't LOVE his humor and tangents like a lot of people, but he was a pleasure to have. I was terrified of speech and now I still can't believe I'm already done with it. He's awesome because he literally spells everything out for you.. if you follow the rubric and directions, practice a few times with confidence, you'll do great.

very loud and talks a lot. didnt feel like a college course. thought he was a bit annoying, but he's nice. if you can deal with an extremely animated and repetitive style of teaching take him. deadlines and criteria are strict, serious points are docked if you dont follow them, but the work isnt too demanding. just do what he asks and youll be fine

Lancaster was the best!!! He was very entertaining and funny. We watched a lot of youtube videos in there. The speeches weren't hard, just make sure you pay attention to what he asks for. I had this class at 8 am and never had a problem going to class. I highly recommend him for speech!

I was terrified of public speaking before this class, but Lancaster made it so easy and actually enjoyable. The tests are incredibly easy if you actually read the book, and the speeches are easy if you just practice a little bit. I highly enjoyed this class and would definitely recommend it.

What can I say about Kelly Lancaster? He is a extremely funny and easy going. He would love to see everyone get a A, but that doesn't mean that he will give it to you. You still have to put in the effort and PRACTICE your speech. I can't say anything negative about this guy. Textbooks are rarely ever used and his test are pretty much common sense

Hilarious, caring, passionate, and kind. His mother passed the quarter I took his class, but it didn't stop him from making his class enjoyable for his students. He truly loves his job. Beware though, he is a tough grader, but only because he tells you EXACTLY what he wants.

He is the best. The class is really entertaining, and I've never fallen asleep in his 8am. He is very clear on what he wants and expects from his students, and is willing to help. He is not an easy A , but it's not impossible to get an A in his class. Just follow his guidelines and study for the exams, you will be fine...and have fun! Take him!

I would not recommend this professor unless you have vested interest in public speaking. Very rough grader, minor incidents during a speech can drop you 2 letter grades. He is extremely clear about assignments but gets very defensive if you ask for more feedback. If your major requires a lot of public speaking, take him, otherwise find someone else

If you are the same don't take Lancaster, you will cry. Probably more than once. Not only did it put a dent in my GPA but my now crippling fear of public speaking is going to take some serious work

I would not recommend him unless you are interested in performing arts. He shows favoritism toward the students who have the cookie cutter clean image and bubbly personalities that would shine onstage. He cares little about the actual speeches given, and more about minor unimportant details. He honestly doesn't seem to care for his students.

He is one of the favorite teachers I had at SCAD. If you PAY ATTENTION and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS for the speeches you'll get an A. Most people complain that he cares about "small things" but these "small things" are said in class over 10 times and are in the instruction sheets but still people wont do it and blame the professor. Lectures are fun.

Going into this class I was not looking forward to making speeches. But Prof. Lancaster made it one of my favorite classes. He's very clear about what he expects from you, which I found very helpful. He's very funny during lectures and allows you to email him your outlines for review. He's also very easy to talk to! Take him!

He was a good professor, but you have to understand his sense of humor in order to really like him. His speeches assignment were interesting and the layout was right to the point. Show up on time, turn in assignments on time and you will be fine. I don't recommend him, nor would I not recommend him.

Professor Lancaster is a great one. I was terrified to take a speech class, but he makes it fun & very enjoyable. He is HILARIOUS & plays plenty of YouTube videos to enhance your understanding of the things he talks about. Nice guy and really funny. Good professor and teacher. Do not argue with him, pay attention, don't use your phone and no computers. Over all great class. Be warned he is strict with due dates but he tells you and gives you time on speeches. If you follow his directions anyone can get a good grade in this class.

He's a real tough grader, don't ever try to get into an argument with him or he will shut you down in front of the whole class. No cell phones, he has no patience for that. Don't try to give excuses no matter what. I didn't really like him tbh.

One of the bestfunniest teachers I've had so far, and one of the hardest classes. Mandatory readings, pop quizes, tough grader. Help is there, but only when it's convenient to him. Most used sentence: "it's on the syllabus." Good class if you're also interested in American History. Makes you research for speeches, but wont allow internet sources.

Lancaster is the best professor I've had at SCAD so far. He is clear in his criteria, helpful, and an amazing and interesting lecturer. He makes you read a lot about Thomas Jefferson, but it's worth it from what you get out of the class. He cares about his students and wants to help you, but he is strict on his rules, so make sure to listen to him.

Don't miss class, be ON TIME and ALWAYS check the syllabus. He's very by the book, but is a good professor. In order to make sure your assignments are on time, check the syllabus supplemental because he definitely won't tell you. Everything is weighted the same so if you miss 1 assignment you have to work like hell to bring your grade back up.

If your in art school for art & not comm choose another professor. Forces you to learn a whole lot about Thomas Jefferson & I'm no history buff. Pointless readings and really tedious research for speeches. He comes off nice but don't get on his bad side otherwise hescondescending. I Regret picking this professor. He has no mercy with grading either

Lancaster is one of those teachers that doesn't seem to trust his students or realize we have other classes. He knows his stuff to be sure, but the deadlines are strict and the assignment requirements even stricter. This wasn't a hard class, it was just time consuming, more so than it should have been, especially since this is art school.

As long as you actually put in effort and actually follow his (very thorough) rubrics, you'll be fine. I don't know why it was so difficult for so many people, because his grading criteria is laid out. Be warned, he does have pop quizzes.

Lancaster is the best prof I have ever had. He is clear concise and organized. He loves coming to class and teaching every single day. There is never a dull moment and his lectures are as interesting as a speech class can be. He understands the affects of anxiety and works with you. The textbooks are boring but combined are under $40.

Very funny, class passes pretty fast. Speeches are clear-cut and quite easy to get through. Gives you a pretty wide topic range to choose from yourself. Loosens up the setting so it's not so nerve racking when its your time to speak.

Honestly if you're just looking to get rid of your COMM class taking Lancaster is fine, but I genuinely hated this class and not because I don't enjoy speech. I found Lancaster to be close minded and harsh. He has a tendency to view his students as numbers, not people, and disregarded his students' opinions. Be ready to learn about Thomas Jefferson

Professor Lancaster was really helpful. There are many grading opportunities other than just speeches to help buff your grade. Even if you're really nervous or awful at public speaking, you can do well in this class. He tries to help with anxiety as well, spends like a whole class period talking about it. Make sure you meet deadlines.

Strongly don't recommend. Crazy strict about speeches ( got 5 points off for having curly hair). He cares about Jefferson way too much, kind of creepy. Unless you like Jefferson and want to be judged based off your opinions, don't take him.

Lancaster has honestly been my favorite professor. He knows how to keep the class entertained while he's still teaching. He grades fairly and he tries to stay open-minded about people who have anxiety. I feel like I've grown as a student and I feel more confident about public speaking. Lancaster uses humor in order for the class to not fall asleep. You can easily tell he's really into American History, and tries to make it fit into a COMMUNICATION CLASS. Even though he's lectures are good, he's totally off the way of what a communication class is all about. He will literally yell at you if you want to talk to him about a grade.

This is more of a history class on Thomas Jefferson than it is a speech class. His method for doing speeches is strict and hard to follow, and theres a small grey area somewhere between not prepared enough and too prepared that you have to be in to make an A. Not a fan.

A great lecturer during class, but not very accessible in person (ask a question, he'll say "read the syllabus"). If you're late to class or miss a deadline, there's no making it up. Dr. Lancaster will have you read and discuss the readings in class. He is always respectful and very humorous. Nice guy. This class is way, just do everything he says and follow how he wants it done. As long as you do that you can get an easy A. Don't be 15 minutes late to class otherwise you can't do your speech or turn your work in.

Three weeks in and I already can't stand this class! I had to make a chart to keep track of all of the convoluted deadlines set for the class, because they were so confusing. Additionally, the amount of work given is more than my two other online classes combined. I've taken online before, and never have had this experience.

His participation is limited to sending weekly emails stating your forum grades and a few short feedbacks on the forums now and then. There is no personal approach as he treats students as numbers, if you don't submit on time he will give you a zero and there is no chance to make up for it no matter what your circumstances were.

Play Lancaster's game and you'll get along just fine. He's very clear when it comes to the rubric, and if you stick to it you'll get an A for sure. even if some of the rules don't make the most sense. This is one of the few classes at SCAD where you really don't want to think outside the box too much in terms of the guidelines.

I wasn't so sure at first, but he's awesome! He tries to make lectures funny and interesting which is appreciated. His day on anxiety is good for anyone who doesn't have clinical anxiety. He's pretty strict on grading and submitting things on time as well as looking at the syllabus. He cares too. He works with students the best he can. Great guy.

Kelly Lancaster is a great professor; he makes a class like Comm 105 tolerable most of the time, and enjoyable on occasions. This is the closest thing at SCAD offers to a highschool class in terms of criteria, but Lancaster makes it challenging, yet interesting. Be prepared to work, always be respectful, and make sure you participate in class.

He understands how bad people's anxiety can get, and doesnt get mad if you have a hard time speaking&helps you through. follows the syllabus like its his holy text. he can be funny and interesting at times but also come off as being pretty insensitive, judgy and 'holier than thou'. The book he had us read really had nothing to do with communications- it was a waste of time. but I did get better at public speaking than I was.

He's funny sometimes but he's really stubborn. He might not be as understanding as other professors and this may or may not affect your grade. You do use the textbooks but they have nothing to do with comm. This class isn't easy by any means, but Lancaster is a caring and wonderful professor who will provide you with everything you need to succeed. He is a little Thomas Jefferson crazy but its entertaining to say the least. If you have trouble speaking in front of people, he gives great advice and help for maintaining anxiety and stress.

Lancaster is great. He's not my favorite, but he's highly organized & gives clear grading criteria with all the tools you need to get an "A." To be blunt, Lancaster is an engaging speaker but a terrible professor. He follows the syllabus strictly - do exactly what the syllabus says or else you will get points off. There are a lot of reading assignments. He's condescending and hates to be wrong. The class itself is useful and you learn a lot by yourself but the professor isn't very good.

When I first read the rules for his class I was scared. But I went into class day 1 and instantly loved him. He is strict, but he makes all of his requirements perfectly clear. I was never confused. His class talks about Jefferson a lot, but many speeches are just loosely tied to the topic. He loves his students and wants us to succeed. Take him.

Professor Lancaster is a wonderful teacher. He is caring and truly wants the best for his students. During my quarter with him he had a literal heart attack but was back in class the very next session. To succeed in his class you HAVE to follow directions. You wont pass if you dont. He clearly defines all of his requirements, though.

If you're worried about public speaking, take his class. He's very kind and funny, he acknowledges anxiety, and he wants to help you succeed! He has his rules, and he's a little heavy handed about no phones in class. Also, there's no making up speeches/homework if you miss the due date. He graded using a rubric but left vague comments so I never knew what I needed to work on. Blackboard was unorganized and so full of random info that it was hard to find what was actually needed. He gave me a zero on my final because it "wasn't turned in" when it was. I emailed him about it but he never replied. I ended up emailing the ombudsman.

I had Dr. Lancaster this past quarter. I don't dislike him, but he wasn't my favorite either. We read a lot about topics that pertained to the human condition and cultural diversity, which was nice. I do believe if you work hard and pay attention to the syllabus, it's an easy class to pass. I believe he should just provide more feedback.

Kelly Lancaster is a very STRICKED grader! I can't stress enough how perfect your speech and even more importantly your outline needs to be. He takes off 2 points for every mistake toward the outline on top of your speech grade. I made an 88 on one of my speeches and got 20 points deducted for the outline, my final grade was a 68 due to 10 errors.

I was wary of him at the beginning of the quarter but he grew on me a LOT. He really makes the class interesting and you always leave with interesting tidbits of information. You'll be discussing Jefferson a lot but he's very informed and knows how to make it engaging. He's very specific about grading requirements but is very clear about them.

While he is very charismatic, the lectures are still long. I found his grading of the speeches to be frustratingly specific (I had points taken for brushing hair off my face once, seeming nervous, and moving my hands) & doesnt leave a lot of room for error despite making mistakes himself. You don't get to really learn about speaking in this class. He only cares about Thomas Jefferson. If you disagree with him he will get upset with you and grade you more harshly, even when that seems impossible-- he already takes points off for things like brushing your hair out of your face during a speech. He is a decent Professor. However, DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR AN ONLINE CLASS. He does not respond back in a timely matter. Last emails I received from him was at 4:00 A.M. in the morning. Lancaster is very petty and passive-aggressive. It says you need a book, however, do not waste your time on getting it, it's not really necessary to pass the class. It barely felt like a speech class. We only read about Thomas Jefferson and all assignments had to be about the Victorian era. Only the final speech was applicable to our major studies. He also has a strict no phones policy and if you have to go to the bathroom you have to show him your phone to prove you aren't just leaving to use it.

Taking this class is like watching Hamilton the musical, but from Thomas Jeffersons point of view. He is obsessed with TJ, but his lectures are hilarious and he is a very quotable man. Prof. Lancaster haunts my nightmares. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I had a health issues that he was not understanding of at all, he refused to acknowledge my accommodations, the book is irrelevant, he's self-righteous, and literally my whole class disliked him. I stopped going to the class in person and started doing virtual since he was literally making us log in to zoom to talk to the people next to us, and I felt like I was there for his benefit and not mine. That's when he started flunking me on assignments. He makes all these jokes about wanting us to suck up to the professor, and he's not kidding.

Reading these comments are making me laugh. I did have him online and it was not hybrid. I dont know if it was just me or my class but he loved me and really help me with everything I had done. Professor Lancaster is a dedicated professor and he provide a master calendar for his students which is neat to find the ddl. However, he is also very inflexible on his rubric and he don't make changes. He takes lots points because you make a mistake on the outline structures. Definitely a hard class, you have to work for it and put time and effort into his assignments. Lectures are long and sometimes dragged. His jokes sometimes felt a little narcissistic, but I want to believe that is just his humor style? Dr. Lancaster has a unique teaching technique and doesnt allow any form of technology in the classroom. (including laptops for notes) The work is pretty straightforward but VERYYY time consuming. Anyone on here that says Lancaster is a good professor has no social life whatsoever. I have 6 friends who signed up for this class and 3 of them have dropped him within the first 5 weeks. His teachings are a way of the past and he does not care if you pass. Whatever you do, do not sign up for this class. Especially if you have ADHD. 3 ELOs + 1 FT.

If you don't follow instructions well, you might have trouble in this course. The class is 100% homework you don't do any work in class but it's pretty straightforward. Cool guy overall

I would choose to sacrifice myself into a volcano like the shark from Madagascar 2 rather than have this teacher again. My left pinkie toe is more understanding than Kelly. I found this class to be about as interesting as staring at dry wall for 24 hours.

Dr. Lancaster is so quirky and funny! He knows the material is somewhat dry, so he tells funny stories and cracks jokes to make the class more entertaining. Keep track of all the due dates, since there are multiple due dates on Blackboard each week. If you do the reading and put in the work for the outlines you'll walk out with an A.

No technology in class and the class is mostly a lecture. He tries to make it engaging w/ demonstrations, stories, videos, etc. Structured class w/ clear due dates and incorporation of material in assignments. ~2-3 assignments/week, sometimes nitpicky, so check rubrics. Only gives 95/100 on weekly assignments, so you little/no safety net.

Lancaster is an amazing teacher. His lectures are really engaging. He sends a lot of homework and you have to read a lot for this class. Nevertheless, the readings are really interesting. If you submit all your assignments and put some effort into them, you will get an A. I completely recommend taking COMM 105 with him!

Dr. Lancaster is overall a great professor. He gives out clear expectations for each assignment, and as long as you pay attention to what he says you will do fine. The entire class is lecture, and the classes are recorded on blackboard, so it really is difficult to fail. There is a no tech. rule in his class, but I never had any problems with it.

Doctor Lancaster likes to get political in the classroom but besides that, really good course. Obviously, very boring to sit through 2 and a half hours of pretty much just him talking, but he keeps it lively and cracks jokes here and there. Lots of work and 4-5 live speeches. Creating the outlines would take hours and lots of hw the final 2 weeks.

I was nervous to have a public speaking class, and I said this to Dr. Lancaster. He was very supportive and understanding and constantly reassured me that I could do it. He is a harsh grader for the speeches and will count off points for hair or clothes. He also loads up assignments during finals! Still, the class environment was pretty chill.

His teaching style is similar to Abby Lee Miller's where you learn out of fear due to his strict and stern attitude and not wanting to know what will happen if you do not impress him. Apart from how strict he is, you do learn a strong foundation of public speaking within his class.

This professor should be fired. 3 assignments in the entire class, and even if you follow the rubric, if he doesn't like your speech (even if topic approved) he will give you a 38%. I got a 38% on 2 of the 3 assignments because he didn't like my work, when my peers enjoyed it and I followed the rubric to a tee. I implore you to never take this POS.

His grading confused me. He gave me a B for not being spontaneous enough (meaning I didn't say the word "Um" enough). For my second speech I barely practiced and thought I did terrible, but I got a 98. I knew I could've done better but for the sake of a grade I held back my ability and I left feeling less confident in myself. I did not like that.

I loved this class! Lancaster was probably one of my most favorite professors at SCAD. He made a lecture-based class fun and engaging. I also enjoyed his sense of humor. At the beginning of the quarter I liked Prof Lancaster, however as the quarter progressed I found him more frustrating to deal with. A public speaking class has its merits, but grading is harsh and unpredictable. Feedback is often hard to read, so it's difficult to know why points were lost. Kelly Lancaster is the worst professor I've had at SCAD. He takes so many points off for little mistakes and his grading is so unfair.
