She is by far the worst teacher ever! do not take her class!
I would never recommend her to any student. Says she is willing to help you but she is not, she always seems annoyed that you are coming to see her
I don't know where these other "reviews" are coming from. I have failed this class several times due to terrible teachers until her. She is to the point, and as long as you attend class and take notes you'll do fine! She talks fairly fast, so she isn't for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and understood math for the first time ever.
Shes the best math teacher i have ever had trying to take anthor class with her.
Excellent professor. She gives quizzes and exams back in a timely manner. She goes through each section, teaching with notes on the board. The homework is a review of the classwork and text homework isn't mandatory, but recommended. If you go to class, pay attention, take the notes, and do the homework, it's fairly easy. Just don't fall behind.
She clearly writes all notes out in class. If you go to class consistently and do the work you can't fail. Moves quickly, but is very efficient in explanations.
The best teacher I've ever had for math. I've taken her for three different classes now and i can honestly say that i understand math better now than I ever have before. If you do the work, show up on time, and act like you care, you'll do fine. Excellent teacher and a good person as well.
Awesome professor! Pretty easy weekly quizzes. Gives partial credit even if you get it wrong. Exams are take-home/open book. Class time is overhead notes, but interesting. You can tell she enjoys her subject. Also, has good office hours and is always encouraging you to come in! HW is not collected, but HIGHLY recommended.
The worst math teacher I have ever had, rude, and made fun of me in front of the class. She has fun failing students, and will not try to help students in class with understanding the section they are currently on. I would NEVER recommend this person to ANYBODY!If you want to succeed in math do not have her as a professor.Shes very condesending
Professor is very direct about her class rules. Follow the rules the first time. Don't be late, bring your calculator, follow the syllabus. Homework and exams online, weekly quizzes are pretty easy and she genuinely wants to help if you help yourself. I've been to see her outside of office hours and she always is very helpful.
Absolutly loved her class!!! she is extremely helpful and tries very hard to have all students pass
Talks really fast but will explain things and is really helpful. super nice and definitely a professor I'd have again
Awesome teacher! very organized with all her notes and with grading. I would recommend her for a math teacher!!
Easy grader, tough class for any teacher to teach. Ignore all these "she's the devil" comments
The best math teacher I have EVER had. Arguably the best teacher in general I have ever had. She's a great teacher and person, and a very easy grader. This class is impossible to get lower than a B in if you show up. I would recommend Professor Molkenthin to ANYONE. I hope I'm able to take another one of her classes, she's that great.
Loved her class! She really knows what she is teaching. If you do the work and show up you're most likely to pass.
Love this teacher!! Talks kind of fast but will slow down if asked to.
Awesome professor! Passed this class with flying colors after previously failing it! She is very helpful and is willing to meet outside of class time. I recommend her and would take another class with her if I could!
Must have been told to up her game since 2013. Be very direct with her, since she is likely to deal you several blows and see how you can handle it for what she perceives as real world experience. Also, hates to admit she's wrong takes it personally. In math, you COMPARE answers, you don't threaten people.
She's a great professor w a good sense of humor! She's strict but I highly recommend her. Talks super fast but always willing to answer questions and explains things until you get it. Quizzes and h.w. each week, 3 tests and a project. Don't be late and make sure you do your h.w.
Good teacher, definitely recommend her. I love teachers who give short quizzes at the start of class, because it forces you to study and helps you remember what you learn. She is very clear and concise. You will need to take good notes to do well though.
Great teacher, spends majority of class explaining new material instead of wasting time going over homework from last class. Open door policy and always willing to help when needed. Gives a lot of quizzes but a very good source to study for her tests.
I would not advise using the school's "tutoring" center for this course since they gave me the wrong answer on many problems I actually had the right answer on to begin with. Well let me rephrase that, use the tutoring center for stuff like radian measures but leave them out of the other stuff and you should be fine.
Greatest way to learn statistics. She hands out the packets of outlines for the notes you'll take as she writes them. She'll do examples and helps you if you need it and does extra examples to help you better understand. The project at the end is fun and interesting way to apply stats to a subject of your interest.
I have to say that she is the best professor in TRCC. She is very logical and very organized. She will write down everything on board so that you can review when you do your homework. I had her Elementary Algebra, Statistics and Pre-Cal.
BY FAR the worst professor I've ever had. I struggle with math and she is no help if you're not a math person. She's also very condescending and belittles students.
Speaks too fast. Moves through chapters too quickly. Only grades by how much ALEKS you do. Not helpful at all.
Organized, detailed lectures filled with relevant examples. Prof very helpful and enthusiastic about what might be considered dry subject matter. If you want to succeed in higher level math take this prof. You can do well if you apply yourself, do all assigned homework, ask questions and actually study. I would take this prof again.
She is a great teacher. You have to go to class, but she makes it fun. She is always willing to work with you during office hours. The final project takes time, but it is not hard if you follow her directions.
She is an awesome teacher. If you go to class and get help before you start getting confused you will be ok. She is willing to help you, and makes a lot of time for her students. She has a lot patience, explains, and gives examples until you get it. She is a great teacher, and has a lot of enthusiasm and understanding of the material.
worstttttt teacher I have ever had. She talked too fast and blows through chapters. I went to her for help during her office hours and she told me she wouldn't help me. I have always been great at math until this year. If you plan on a teacher letting you out early DONT TAKE HER! she will move forward with the material just to waste time.
Dr. Molkinthine is great. She is enthusiastic and willing to help her students when asked. I won't lie and say her class was easy, but I can say that she made math enjoyable for me.
Horrible teacher. She is rude and is petty. She moves through the chapters too quickly and says she has time for students but she really doesn't.
This is the second time I have taken Doctor Molkenthin's MAT137 course. I am not a math person by any means, but she breaks down all the steps for you. A couple of things: Show up on time No cell phones Participate Be willing to put the time and effort into it
Clear guidelines and expectations! She expects a lot from you: do it, you will succeed in this class. Dont, you will fail. YOU know what kind of student you are, and if youre going to do the work. There are no grey lines or faking it with math! Thats the best part. BE ON TIME. If you respect her, she will work very hard to help you and make time.
Never again! Take time to explain to your students
Very anal about what the correct answer is. cannot say what would seem to be common sense( no slope cannot be used for a horizontal line) or. Square roots must be simplified, exact answers, and memorized formulas. It's apparent that she hasn't had a job outside of teaching. I've also noticed she doesn't treat students as equals.
Every class is organized. You take notes for each chapter along with her. There is online work with questions that you can redo until they're correct. The tests are online (taken at home) and you don't have to take the final if you have a 93+. Assigns a difficult, time-consuming project but gives you plenty of time to complete it. Rude at times.
Easiest math class I have ever taken. She's super clear on what you need to do to pass the class and is very flexible about meeting outside of class time for help. She's down to earth and a great person who doesn't put up with bull. If you show up and take notes you'll get an A easily
If you ask for help she is more then happy to help !! Put in the work and you will be more then fine.... I've had her for college algebra stats and pre calc
Ms. Mokenthin is the best professor I've ever had. She's super organized and writes EVERYTHING down. She engages the class and genuinely wants the students to understand. If you don't understand something in class, just go see her in her office, she's super open to giving extra help. Her tests reflect the quizzes so nothing is unexpected.
Holds a grudge if you miss even ONE class; she told my class that you have to come even if you have the flu. She rushes through every subject, & doesn't make sure the students know the material. Had to go online and search math videos on youtube to teach myself what she failed to spend time on in class, which was pretty much everything.
Her notes are somewhat clear but she often rushes through the chapters. There are days where she teaches 3 sections in a chapter in one class period. I usually go home and study or watch youtube videos on the topic by myself. The homework is always online and so are the tests. But the quizzes are in class and she takes your top 10 quizzes.
She is fine so far. Don't miss her class and do homework. Rushes through the chapters and speaks super fast. She answers questions only during the class, she doesn't have time after. Or you can see her in the office. If you are struggling with math, take somebody else. Plus is you don't have to buy an expensive book, we use MyOpen Math, it's free
She is hands down the best math professor at this college.
Great choice.
Very excellent teacher.
Amazing Professor.
She is helpful and clear. I would definitely take her again!
She is strict, but she is very clear and helpful.
I would definitely NOT recommend this class to be taken in the summer. She goes through the material way to fast and does not explain the material thoroughly enough in class. I have basically taught myself all of the material by viewing examples on the website she uses. If you have questions, bring a specific example or else she will NOT help you.
All i can say is LEGEND
She is very strict but very thorough with the material. You have to be able to keep up because she speaks very fast and writes notes really fast. If you have questions for her office hours have specific ones prepared or it will not be beneficial to you she will not make questions up for you to do. She does NOT tolerate lateness or missing class!!
Just know if you miss one class she'll hold a grudge against you, like as if she caught you beating your meat in her bed room while making eye contact with her. She will then bring up that one class you missed EVERY CHANCE SHE GETS. Plus she talks fast like Busta Rhymes+ You running away from your parents when you're about to get your beat.
Made math simple and easy to understand, extremely understanding
Do the hw you will pass. Quiz and test base on the hw. She is great professor, always willing to help. Her office always open for extra helps.
I like her because she is no nonsense, her classes do not get out of control. If there is a problem with a student it is dealt with fast and ended. She assigns HW that the quizzes and test are based on. So do the HW and you should pass the test..
Prof. Molkenthin is alright, but alright doesn't cut it for a calculus class. Very hard to see outside of class hours, gets frustrated when students are confused, and very few opportunities for extra credit plus no curve. Take 254 with another professor if you have a chance, but if you don't then she's workable.
Goes through material very thoroughly and very willing to help if you need it. But you HAVE to go to class. Very nice but does not mess around!
If you do the assigned homework you will pass this class with flying colors! She is probably the most through teacher I have had for math yet. She is very organized in her note taking and her lectures. Show up!!! You will miss a lot and she will not provide you with the notes you missed.
Is the living embodiment of the zero tolerance policy. fair warning.
So far, She was the best math professor that I can find in Three Rivers. I promise if u don't miss her classes, then you will pass. She is greaaaattttt
She made me like math. Very great teacher! genuinely cares for her students. 100 % take her for other courses!
Phenomenal teacher. Absolutely spectacular at explaining material.
She is an amazing teacher. The people that complain about her must have just given up. If you go to her office she will help you with EVERYTHING! If you truly need help go to her office once a week atleast and before tests. She explains everything great in class, but better in her office. TAKE ADVANTAGE!
I have had problems with this Professor as I am taking Calc II over the summer. She rarely responds to emails on time or just flat out ignores them, uses calculators for online prerecorded lectures but refuses to let us use a calculator on tests. Tests are long and proctored through a zoom meeting. I will never be taking a class through TRCC again
Online Calc 2. Worse teacher I have ever had in difficult subject! Does not teach. Doesn't answer email. Not available during zoom office hours for help. During zoom proctoring of tests - disruptively shrieks at people if a camera goes in low power mode. Changes the grading criteria midway through the class. Avoid Dr. Molkenthin at all costs!
Worst Math professor in TRCC, you call this teaching? there's a problem after the midterm she lost half of the class. I would not recommend anyone taking either Cal 1 or 2 with her. Started with 28 students ended with 13-14 students? it's a math class so homework is expected. She might be a good teacher in class but not online. Good Luck everyone
Very difficult, refused to have a final review her reason being if she reviews the final and the final is different then her review she doesnt want us to blame her. You can use a calculator on the homework but not on her weekly quiz or any tests. She constantly makes mistakes during lectures however if you make a simple algebra mistake you get a 0
Im not sure what her classroom was like in person but the online class this last semester was a train wreck at best. She would constantly make mistakes and not hold herself accountable, and yet punish your grade for them. Dont expect a review for any test, she simply doesnt give them. My one piece of advice is to do all the homework she assigns.
Professor Molkenthin is a great teacher, I would take another class with her. She's positive, upbeat and clear in her expectations from her students. She is more than willing to review questions and concerns, she's available outside the classroom. There is work involved, you need to put in the time and get it completed to understand the material.
She is a nice person, but her expectations are far too high. I am only in intermediate algebra, and it is tough for me at least. She expects us to do 5 hours of Aleks, watch a 40-minute video or longer lecture that should be done in class, and a bunch of textbook work A WEEK. She also starts a new lesson before the test and does not review at all.
If you have difficulty with math I BEG you not to take her class. She covers topics fast, and won't take time to explain something in a different way to students who aren't getting it. If you miss class once, she'll act like she's never met you before, which is something she literally said to my class about me the first time I ever missed class
Professor Was a nice person who is exceptional at math. However, for someone learning math and not a complete professional, this class is definitely something you would want to take. A lot of homework, teaches incredibly fast, little to no review, little interaction with class as a body, and last of all gives very little prep for quizzes/tests.
She says she puts homework questions on the tests but this is not the case. She goes over easy problems and then assigns crazy ones and expects you to know it. When I ask for help she seems annoyed by it. The only good thing about her is that she grades your work and is pretty easy to meet up with for extra help.
Nice person and charismatic but, if you are bad at math do not take. Dont miss class unless you have a valid reason she does count attendance. Work in class is easy but tests are confusing. All i would say is study study study if you have her!
Clearly thinks she is above teaching this course. loses her mind when you ask a question unless youre one of her chosen favorites. Went to extra help for months, didnt make a difference. Says you dont have to do things her way, but punishes you for it on test. Dont take her unless you took AP classes in HS.
picks her favorites and ignores and talks down to everyone else, awful. Wouldnt stop talking about killing kittens if you do something wrong in the math. Literally. If you took her class you know what Im talking about. She is crazy
If you ask for help or clarification, shell screech Well did you read the book, did you do ALEKS, did you StUdY for 9 hours before daring to ask me?! WHY are you asking ME, your TEACHER who is PAID TO TEACH YOU THINGS? And then she hates you forever. If you have the misfortune of her teaching you, do NOT ask her ANYTHING or miss a SINGLE CLASS.
I hate the way she explains things, its very confusing.
Gets visibly frustrated when you ask a question. Acts like a Karen. I hated this class because of her. Feel like Im gonna fail if this is the way shes going to be.
A waste of a teaching position. The comments that say shes the best just do the work and show up are bull. I study, take notes, do all the homework, quiz myself and the exams are barely recognizable. Blows up if you ask her anything. She doesnt deserve to be a teacher, its like she wants everyone to fail.
Professor Molkenthin is clear on her expectations of the work. This class has a lot of work, you just need to do a couple hours everyday. The tests are based off the homework. I would definitely take another class with her!
Having had 3 diff TRCC math professors, Molkenthin is by far the worst one. Lectures are rapid and riddled with mistakes without clarification. Student questions are often answered sarcastically with another question. Her classes are strictly reserved for those fresh out of HS- no mercy for those who work for a living. DONT challenge her authority.
This woman has to be the most uncaring, drained, sorry excuse for a teacher. She could care less about your personal life or anything that's affecting you/ your school work. She cannot answer emails to save her life. Her requirements for even looking over old tests with her are INSANE. Expects you to be spending 4+ hours a day studying for her.
Her classes can be hit or miss but I loved her, she is the best math professor I had. I took Calc 2 in the summer and it went fast but I don't think it was unmanagable. There is a lot of homework and she does take attendance and those two do factor into your grade a lot. The exams aren't too bad, but you definitely do have to study for them.
Great teacher for a straightforward class. Respect her time, and she will respect yours.
Beware that Molkenthin is a Gemini sun, Gemini moon combination. These people get heated quick and will seek to take their students down. They cannot be beaten in arguments and have a fierce passion for what they teach. She's not lenient, that's for sure.
OVERLY MILITANT. If any circumstances arise outside the "ideal/perfect learning experience", it's not her problem. A good professor is equal parts smarts and social decorum-she clearly lacks the later. Not sure what's she's trying to prove to those half her age with her sarcastic and passive aggressive responses to anyone who makes her act her wage
Kelly is a great professor who understands the material and aims to actually teach. She moves quickly but in a very efficient way. She is very direct about the grading but does offer partial credit on exams. She will always help students who stay the entire class period/do their homework. If you do all assignments she will set you up not to fail.
Kelly needs psychological help. Pretty sure she's in denial about having NPD. If there is discourse b/w her & multiple people (including GOOD students), then the problem is HER and not everyone else. I recently witnessed her follow a student down the hall yelling at & threatening her in front of everyone at school. Kelly is a liability to TRCC.
Imagine you work hard on taking notes in class. Now imagine that homework is far more difficult than the notes you take. So what ends up happening is after 4+ hours a week in the classroom, another 6+ hours of your own time is required to learn how to complete the homework that is given out. Tests are loosely based on homework, notes not allowed.
Kelly does NOTHING to help anyone. She has clear favorites and calls out students that don't understand the material. Her tests have LITTLE to do with what she teaches, her lectures make little sense, she picks fights over small things, and she read several student disabilities aloud in front of the whole class. It's crazy she still works here.
Avoid at all costs. So rude and constantly yelling at everyone in class. Goes through slides quick, doesnt answer emails, tests/quizzes are nothing like the 5 hours of ALEKS homework.
don't do it…
Professor Molkenthin is awesome! She is very passionate about math, and cares deeply for her students. She is a fair grader and provides numerous handouts, making lectures easy to follow. While she does assign sizeable amounts of homework on Aleks and gives biweekly in-class quizzes, I enjoyed her class and highly recommend taking it if you can!
I'll just say this right now- pay attention to how all of her positive reviews have thumbs down while all her negative reviews have thumbs up. It is pretty clear that she has favorites and prioritizes them. Also, arguing with her is straight up impossible. I am surprised this woman did not get fired due to how many complaints were filed.
If you work hard this professor will work with you through pretty much everything. Very understanding that not everyone has amazing math backgrounds. Literally gives free points in the form of extra quizzes and drops the worst ones. Anyone complaining didn't put in enough effort/didn't care. Solid professor, will miss her when going to Calc II.
Kelly should've pursued another career instead of teaching. Not only does speed through the slides not explaining anything at all but she expects you to do 8+ hours of homework just for the weekly quizzes to be completely different from the homework. She also picks favorites and if you're not one of them you're f-ed. Do not recommend taking.
Had her for precalc up to calc 2. She is a good professor but strict. As long as you do the work and ask questions you will pass her class. Attendance is graded so you are expected to show up. All the bad reviews for her are from people who want an easy class and want to do as little as possible. She is always available for extra help.
Very good teacher and super helpful
Great teacher, very clear, but not an "easy A". Moves through the material very fast -- be ready to ask questions. Available for extra help, but office hours are crowded! She'll schedule extra time with you if needed She's strict but will work with you if you're willing to do the work. Brings lots of cookies and treats to class to keep spirits up
Molkenthin runs a very strict class. It's not a class you should take if your just trying to fill the requirement. I will say the amount of homework plus weekly quizzes she has us do are too much. We have to do goals+quizzes+homework as well as notes and it's a lot to keep up with especially taking other classes.
Professor Molkenthin is a great professor and I can only assume that her bad reviews are due to lack of effort or respect from students. She explains the material so well and holds a lot of office hours. It is not her fault that Calculus is difficult and many students take their frustration out on her. STEM classes are not easy As.
Kelly was awesome for a first ever math professor of mine. She was very available and willing to help outside of class.
