I had Kelly for lab. She is new and doesn't have much experience, but she is super sweet and really cares about her students. She is always very very willing to help with any questions. She is an awesome lady and a very very nice professor.
I know more about biology than she does...and the first practice paper you write is graded in front of the whole class on an overhead! This class was very unorganized and a joke...don't get me wrong, I love Biology and recieved an A, but Murry and the lab was a total discrace!!
Kelly must be one of the sweetest teachers ever. She makes sure everyone understands what she is teaching and she helps out anyone who asks. She the type of teacher that your not afraid to approach and ask a question. I would recommend her to anyone. Very awesome lady!
Very nice & helpful. The lab got a little too long sometimes.
a great lab prof, helpful and fun. A fair grader for papers and assignments, probably one of my favorite profson campus, especially in the bio department. Do the work and you will get an A.
Awesome lab teacher and very nice, clarity is good and and she is very helpful!
Kelly is a great lady and one of the nicest teachers at the University. Unlike most teachers, she will remember your name, which shows that she cares about her students and doesn't look down on them. Sometimes she can be unclear, but most of the time she's awesome. I strongly recommend her for Biol Lab and any class she teaches!
Very good lab professor, very clear with instructions and very helpful. She helps a lot with the papers, which improves your grade a lot. Kelly is very personable and fun.
Kelly was an excellent lab instructor! I would definitely recommend taking her for any lab or course she teaches, you're experience in that class will be a lot better!
Kelly is really nice. She goes too slow, but it's better than BIO 151 lecture.
I had her for Bio110 lab and she was very nice. Even when you can tell shes having a hard day she never lets it affect her teaching. She is always willing to help and a pleasure to be around. Take Kelly if you can!
Great professor. All the powerpoints are on D2L. She gives a great review before tests. The labs are fun and interesting. Lots of life application. Take her for any bio class
I truly enjoyed her lectures and her class overall. The material is very difficult but she REALLY puts herself out there to help her students. It is obvious she cares about her class and her students and does not deny any student additional help if needed. I really wish all professors could be as down to earth and caring as she is.
Really nice and helpful in lab. She is a good teacher, the content of the class is just hard.
Kelly was an excellent teacher. the concepts are sometimes difficult, but she explains things very well and is willing to answer questions to clarify things. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND KELLY! she keeps classes interesting and entertaining and has a great personality that she brings every day. TAKE K. MURRAY!
Kelly is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I absolutely HATE sciences but she made Bio. 151 extremely interesting and I wanted to go to her lectures. If you ever have trouble you can always ask questions. Her tests are pretty hard but if you study regularly and enough you can do well on them. Quizzes and writing assignments are easy points!
Hard class, but probably one of the most interesting bio classes! Kelly is really nice and understands science well. Only thing is-if you ask her questions not on her powerpoints, she usually says "i'll have to look at that for you" and never does, but it's not on her exams so I guess that doesn't matter!
Had her for bio lab. Pretty cool, very helpful and nice.
Great teacher! Kelly picked up a few classes at UW-Stout, and this is her first time here. Kelly is very helpful compared to other biology teachers I had in the past. She cares about her students, and wants everyone to have a clear understanding when you leave class. I would take every biology class with her if I could! Great Teacher!
she's funny
I had Kelly for lab. She was nice but not too smart. She has little knowledge outside of the basics and has no clue how to grade papers. I felt frusterated at times because of her lack of knowledge. I also went to her office and asked her for help on a paper and I followed her suggestions only to be marked off for following what she told me to do!
Horrible lab professor. She did not know the content. Or at least appeared that way when she couldn't clearly field any questions. Doesn't even come close to preparing you for the lab papers. Easily one of the worst professors I've ever had. At least the lecture tests were able to help save my A. I would switch schools before taking her again.
Nice lady but the class is just really hard if you don't have any interest in Biology. Lab and Book exams are really hard so study your ass off for those. Labs themselves are fun and interesting.
I LOVE KELLY! Take her if you can! She is a great, funny, and easy going professor that is very relatable to her students! She is young and understanding and I thought she was very smart! She is a pretty easy grader, and also straight forward about what will be on her tests and quizzes. Our class average for exams was 86%!! Take her!
Kelly is great. Somewhat difficult class. Great lecturer, but goes kind of fast, so pay attention. Very approachable. Def take this class for a GE!
Never e-mail her, she will never be available for you. (They say you can e-mail them for "alternative" office hours but it's a lie!) She takes forever to answer your question in lab, and even then she isn't very helpful...On top of that, her instructions are never clear (especially on papers) and she is also a tough grader, so GOOD LUCK!
She is very nice. Willing to help you a lot if you go to her office and ask her for help on your papers. I would greatly suggest you do that. Papers are hard. I would recommend her. She is very fun and helps lab go by faster. She will help you if you ask her and is always making sure your doing the lab work right.
I really liked her as a teacher. She's very helpful, especially with the papers which are difficult. I recommend taking the time go over your paper with her before you turn it in. It helped me a lot!
kelly murray rocks. labs were extremely helpfull in understanding of the subject. relevant to course material. hard to find in her office. but really helpful if you take 20 minutes with her. very approachable.
Kellie made the class understandable
Kelly is the best!!! She is really really good professor and she really do know what she is talking about:)
Kelly is extremely helpful and very caring. The class itself isn't too hard, just make sure to study early on. I really enjoyed this class!
Kelly is the best. :)
Kelly was a pretty good professor and excellent lab instructor! She is very helpful and fun. Tests are challenging. Reading the book honestly does help and you MUST start studying at least a week in advance. Don't memorize. Learn. And you'll do fantastic.
Kelly was really great, even though she gave me a low grade. Extremely hard tests, but she is very hands on in the lab! Talks very fast, hard to take notes or follow on power-point. Have to write two research papers. Take a field trip. Walk around campus in and in the stream on campus. Super fun. Totally lost though when it came to t-tests.
Kelly is so great. She is enthusiastic and will never come to class in a bad mood. Her lecture exams aren't a walk in the park, but if you attend class and participate, you will do just fine. Just go to class! You will seriously benefit from it.
I really liked that Kelly was always enthusiastic about what she was teaching, but I found her lectures to be pretty unorganized- we skipped around in chapters alot or started a chapter and then came back to it weeks later. Her tests were also very tricky so pay attention to the wording. Also, she doesn't answer questions very clearly.
Kelly was an awesome professor. Her tests were fair and she's extremely helpful. Strongly recommended!
Kelly is very helpful and puts forth a great effort to know her students. The class moves very quickly and is somewhat confusing. Her exams are pretty tough, but she is more than willing to help.
She is so very nice, tests are fine as long as you know the terms. Not reasonable about a missed online quizzes, and very unclear about what she wants on papers, does not thoroughly explain what she's looking for. Otherwise perfect!
Kelly loves insects, it's funny. Also she gives lectures in a more advanced tone of voice. (if that makes sense) Her class is interesting. She has wonderful intentions, she is very personable, and she shows enthusiasm.
Worst professor I've ever encountered. Rushes through lectures. Her powerpoints are pointless as they have nothing of significance (no terms just pictures and figures). Very unhelpful and rather arrogant. Doesn't seem to care about her students much. Tests are hard but that's expected in 110. Definately would not recommend.
Kelly is a great professor! She is so enthusiastic and loves what she teaches. Bio 151 was and is a tough class that I was dreading, but I learned a ton thanks to Kelly! If you put in a bit of effort and study hard you will do fine!
Out of all the lab professors for this class, she is the easiest. Her grading is reasonable compared to other lab professors. The lowest grade I got on her lab quizzes was a 7/10, some people in other lab sections with different professors were content with a 5/10. Her lab tests are not hard as well. Take her.
Professor Murray is a very good lecturer, and the class itself isn't a lot of work: take notes during lectures and one think piece. The quizzes, lecture and lab exams can be tricky and studying. She has a tendency to get behind in her lectures as well, and sometimes she tries to rush through them. Overall, a good professor.
Tough grader, but very helpful
Her class is actually very easy for an upper level course. If I hadn't missed an assignment because I had to skip a discussion I would have ended up with an A. She is enthusiastic and I love the way she makes the class interact during discussion. It's easier to learn and you will participate making learning easier. She's also nice and approachable.
Very difficult and technical for a 100 level class but Kelly is a good professor and does a pretty good job of explaining things. Labs never lasted longer than an hour and twenty minutes.
Murray expects lab reports and papers to be perfect, but is also a very helpful professor and is easy to talk to. I hate science classes, but this one was enjoyable.
Kelly is a great professor who really made biology interesting! Her lectures are pretty interesting but can run long and she tries to pack in too much info. The tests can be a little tricky but she gives a good study guide to help prepare. She can be a tough grader but is definitely willing to help! Definitely take her!
My favorite teacher yet!! Take Kelly, yes her tests are difficult but she really wants you to learn and is willing to help! I went to her office hours a couple times and she was super willing to help and give me advice on how to study. Too much info to make flashcards, make sure you understand the info and processes. TAKE KELLY, you wont regret it!
The only bad things about Murray is that she falls behind a lot in lectures so she spend the whole semester trying to catch up. She really wants her students to learn a lot so crams a lot of info into the lessons and she talks a million miles an hour but she is extremely helpful and a good person. 1010 would recommend taking with her!
Kelly was an awesome professor, she was super smart and very nice. She made boring lectures better than most professors would. But her tests were very hard and you really had to fully understand the information to do well on the tests. I recommend doing all the reading even though it isn't required.
I took this class online over the summer. You are expected to do a lot in just a few weeks but if you keep up it isn't very hard. She's very helpful and her notes and lectures are very helpful!
Kelly was my favorite professor this semester. She really knows what she is talking about and really wants students to understand and learn. She does fall behind, but manages to pick up again. Provides powerpoints which is very helpful. Tests aren't bad as long as you study and read the book. Overall, she was great and would take again.
Kelly is an excellent teacher in so many ways. Yes, she talks quickly, but the hour you're in lecture will fly by because there's so much to cover. She makes the content interesting and if you study, you can get through her exams with a decent grade. I would take a class with her again.
Kelly is a very fair professor. I had not taken Bio for a lot of years and she made a very hard subject very understandable. She is more than willing to help you with concepts that are hard to understand. I would suggest that you go to her office and spend time learning these concepts. I would highly recommend Kelly to anyone needing to take Bio!
Kelly was a great teacher. She explained evolution from numerous standpoints, relating topics to current events. Grades were based on three exams, weekly group participation, and one-page weekly paper responses along with a group project in which we led/taught the class for a day. I definitely recommend her!
Murray is a very good professor and means well. Her content can be hard to understand. Make sure you take notes and ask questions on her lectures, so you are able to completely understand the content.
Kelly does an awesome job lecturing and makes things interesting. She gives random in class assignments that add up towards your finals points so class attendance is important. Her exams are exactly from her notes in class.
Prof. Murray is a very nice woman who knows what she is talking about when it comes to science. The class, however, is very challenging. Make sure to take good notes and study!
Kelly is a very nice person. However, all lectures are very disorganized. The powerpoints are vague, while the tests are specific. She always is rushed as lectures are always behind. Tests are more difficult than they should be. Labs are okay as you get to work as a group, however not very helpful with the material.
Murray is an amazing person and excellent at her job. Learning is easy to do with her and she wants everyone to do well. She points out what is going to be on every test and really cares about each student.
Murray is great. She is super easy to get along with and is approachable. Everything is the class is mapped out clearly and is very reasonable. Each week you have to write 2 paragraphs, but they're easy and oppionion based so theyre not hard. She doesn't rush the class and is very understandable that students are busy.
Great Professor! Super nice and easy going. Lectures aren't mandatory but highly recommended. The tests are basically solely lecture based. I got a C on the first test by reading the textbook. On the 2nd test I only studied lecture notes and got an A.
Kelly is nice and enthusiastic, but her tests don't make sense with the lecture at all times. Lecture assignments at least one a week. If you haven't taken anatomy this class will suck for you for lab exams... If you need a science credit, take a different class.
Kelly is a fun professor. She makes her lectures enjoyable. But, her tests are difficult and don't always follow what was taught in lectures. A tough class for a 100 level.
Kelly is very nice and approachable. The class is very lecture heavy, so if you don't study the lecture notes, you will not do well on the tests. There is no homework in this class, which makes it hard to tell what material we need to know and it makes it harder to cement the things we've learned. Be prepared to do a lot of studying on your own.
Kelly is fantastic! I really enjoyed this class because of her teaching style. She does cover a great amount of content in her lectures, so it is important to be paying attention. I could get by with using the textbook just to look up things I didn't completely understand, but it is a great tool if you miss class. Great teacher and great class!
Kelly is a good professor and is very funny and approachable. She covers A LOT in lectures and moves quick and packs a lot of content into every test, but there are a lot of other opportunities in other areas to get better scores (hw, etc) if you're not a great test taker. Lectures aren't mandatory but lecture assignments are given out randomly.
Kelly is super nice and her lectures are interesting. She gives small assignments in lecture and lab that are easy and help your grade. You have to study a lot and read the text book for the lecture exams, but the lab exams are pretty easy. Would recommend taking Bio with Kelly!
Covers alot for an exam. Makes a study quide that you spend hours on. Plus every chapter reading. Then when It comes to the test it seemed like nothing I studied would be on it. The only thing that saved my grade in this class was the lab and class assignments. She is an awsome person and very approcable but fustrating how much i studied for a C
Very kind professor, fasted response time ever. She clearly has put alot of time and thought into her material. Tests were short, which was nice but that means one question wrong has a big impact on grade. Very good discussion posts though - she will even participate
Here's the thing with Kelly, READ THE TEXTBOOK. She doesn't emphasize it much, but she has the whole class mapped out and textbook readings accordingly. Most of them are quite short, but make sure you read them. Her lectures follow the content pretty closely. Work hard, and you'll get much respect. Get a study buddy, and you should get a B at least
If you have a Biology class that is required for your major or interest, I 100% recommend taking the biology class with Kelly. She always is available to talk whether it is before, after, or outside of class she always wants to make sure you aren't struggling in class and ASK question throughout the 50-minute class! She goes out of her way to help!
Her tests are very detailed and hard compared to the study guide. Make sure you read textbook in detail and right down not only her lecture notes but what she says in lectures.
This class was just ehhh. It wasn't super difficult and she's really approachable and mostly helpful. We had one group project at the end of the semester with our lab group, but it was pretty straightforward. Also, the anatomy is probably the toughest part. Especially pig anatomy. Yes, you direct a pig.
Great Professor! Engaging during class, definitely wants students to do well, and offers a few spots for bonus points through out. It is work when it come to exams (lab & lecture) but if you put some effort in and go to class, you will pass no problem and an A is definitely doable. Needed this for a lab credit and so glad I went with Bio & Murray(:
With all bio courses; lecture heavy, must attend if you care about your grade (and professionalism), and must read the textbook. Kelly is the definition of sweet. Shows her passion for biology (and bugs!) Forms personal connections if you show your interest and work ethic. Personally helped me get credit for an internship. Great connection to make.
She posts all materials you need online and makes it very accessible. I have her when all classes had to be moved online, and she did an amazing job of keeping things very organized. Expectations are very clear and easy to follow. The tests are pretty hard and the class is challenging but she genuinely cares about you and wants you to succeed.
Professor Murray is amazing! She is very approachable if you need any help and truly wants to see her students succeed! This course is content heavy, but if you put in the effort, you will do well. If you have to take ANY bio class, take it with Murray!!
I had Kelly for Bio 180 and IDIS which is for freshman. She mainly just lectures during class and the lectures are a lot of pictures with her then explaining the material and our class was also always behind on lectures because of that. She is a good professor who cares about her students, the class had 3 exams which I found to be hard.
I had professor Murray for both 180 and IDIS and she did a phenomenal job teaching both. However, she moves quite fast throughout her lectures and includes a lot of reading and writing material. But if you need help or anything she is amazing to reach out too and even checks up on previous students to see if they need help from her in anyway!
Professor Kelly is super sweet and understanding! Absolutely loved her!
I had Kelly for Bio 180 and 181, along with IDIS 187 for freshmen. Kelly is a great professor and truly cares about her student's success. She responds quickly to emails and is very helpful with any questions you may have. Kelly has been one of my favorite professors and I highly recommend her.
Kel is an incredibly boring (mandatory) lecturer - they write an essay-style lecture and just read it with some pictures on the slides. you can get away with not doing the readings. the grading relies mainly on essays, which can be really fun to do if you pick fun topics. The exams are essay-style, which suck but aren't that hard to get an A on.
Kelly means well but her class is frustrating. All lectures were expected to be done out of class, and lecture information will not help you on tests. She is a harsh grader for no reason at all. It's like she doesn't realize she is doing environmentalism a disservice.
Kelly is kind and fair and very knowledgable about her topics. I sincerely enjoyed this class with her and I was nervous about it as a non-STEM major but she made the class doable, and I honestly had fun. Take this class
Kelly is by far one of the best profs in the bio dept. Her lectures are easy to follow and the content is interesting. Discussions were related back to lecture topics and helped make connections. Exams were easy if you studied, she made study guides that make it easy to study. I never read the textbook and still got an A.
