She's totally cool! Very knowledgeable, kind, fair and patient. Answers any questions clearly with kind manner.
Professor Neary is a great teacher! She has high expectations, but she's patient, thorough, and fair. She's the best teacher I've had at Mission. You really learn a lot!
She is such a great teacher. Thorough & fair. She is also patient. Best Anatomy & PHysiology teacher!!! If you study well you'll pass!
She is a great teacher. I miss dissecting organs. There were so many examples to go around, but you had to have a group. I passed with an A, and I took her class Spring07 when she got pregnant.
First of, do not take this class if you are taking 3 or more other classes. This class needs time, I'm telling you, if you don't study for the exams... you're most likely to fail. Like I said, this class requires you to study and study and study and study. She drops the 2 lowest scores out of 10 however, don't rely on that. Good luck! :)
I love Kelly. She's the BEST! She will spoon feed you. However, you do need to study for her class though. She makes things very easy to understand. It is helpful to record the lectures and go home to review it.. Study before class and review after each lecture..then just listen to the recording, you will Ace the class.
Kelly is a really nice teacher. She is very clear on her lecture. Do not take more than 12-15 units with this class. Anatomy is a time consuming class that needs a lot of attention studying. Same goes for physiology. Just be on top of your studies and you should pull off with a minimum grade of B or higher. This is a touch course & physio Good Luck
super super hard class. even though I graduated from a UC. just study hard. Its so detailed and complex. Neary will help you when ever needed.
Questions she puts in her tests are too hard and doesn't really match the study guide. Her lab etiquette is strict
WARNING & U WILL THANK ME. TAKING THIS ANATOMY CLASS RIGHT NOW AND HER EXAMS ARE TOUGH. STRICT ON LAB ETIQUETTE. WOULD FIND ANOTHER TEACHER. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF. GO CHECK HER RATINGS FROM SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY AND FOOTHILL. THEY ALL SAY THE SAME THING. HARD EXAMS. BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST. LIKE OTHER SAID. SHE WILL SPOON FEED YOU. NOT HAPPY
Anatomy lab exams were sorta okay. But everyone struggles in lecture. I am taking this class by itself and its taking up most of my time. I wish the lecture questions arent tricky and hard. you learn a lot, but your grades suffer. and its important to keep up with the readings. its a tough class and no room for slackers. good luck
I love Ms.Neary, she is a great teacher, very smart and very approachable. If you want to have good grades, you need to study really hard.
I had Kelly for bio 47 and bio 48. In bio 47(anatomy) I didn't go to the office hours much. But in bio48(physiology) i went at least 2-3x a week. PHYSIOLOGY IS MY HARDEST EARNED GRADE. I wasn't happy with my B in Anatomy. So i studied above and beyond for Physiology and got an A. Hardest earned A ever. Physio requires alot of TIME AND STUDYING!!!
I took her this past summer and there was time needed to put into to the class, but nothing that can't be done. She's honestly a great teacher. Some of her tests questions were written tricky, but if you listened to lecture and studied the study guide then it's all an easy A. She grades fair, her class is interesting, and she doesn't mind answering questions!
Nice teacher, very understanding. Lecture pretty boring, but good notes and pay attention in Lab and you will be fine. Her exams are tough, so study. Take her online class pretty simple.
She was not helpful at all. she ignoring questions during lecture. the lecture doesn't cover the exam content. you will be amaze to taking her exam and she will not return test paper back until 3 week later.
Labs are fun but not easy. She gives a huge workloads, 2 quiz a week, written exams one week, practical exams the next. Also a term paper. no mercy in scheduling tests. sometimes you will have 2 quizzes same week as an exam. She grades all exams the same day. Its very hard but if you ask for help during office hrs she will help. Take class by itself
She was not helpful at all. Her lecture doesn't cover the exam questions & unfair lab grade.
Hands down best Biology teacher ever had. Her knowledge of the subject is beyond what is required to teach. Lectures are interesting and well structured to provide efficient learning. Very helpful and easily approachable. Work hard and you will do fine. If you're lazy you probably won't do well in this class and probably not do well in life too. :)
Lots of work. If you ask for help she will help you. Exams are off her powerpoints and lab projects. Do the study guide but you will definently NEED the BOOK to study. Don't be cheap because it will help you for the exams.
Took Kelly's online class, pretty easy. Not made for lazy people. If you want an A, you must buy the book and study!
She's articulate, organized, scientific, kind and professional. Her powerpoints are well-structured and not confusing. She's nice, but strict. It's Physio, so you gotta put in the time to earn your grade. Study her slides, use a textbook if you're unclear about something, and stay organized - her class will be easy for you.
Shes a great teacher and is very organized and helpful when you have a question. Her tests were really hard so you really need to study. I didnt use the book bc she goes off her lecture. Stay on top of everything and dont skip classes! It doesnt get easier at the end so dont think its okay to slack off. And have a realible lab partner =]
Kelly is a dedicated teacher. She wants you to understand the material and be successful. The material is extremely detailed but she explains it clearly. She is very organized. No surprises. She tells you what she expects of you. She designs the class so that your grade isn't just in tests. She has lab assignments and homework. There are many ways to make the grade if you aren't a good test taker. You have to put in the work, no way out of that. Best science teacher EVER!
Do not take this class take a different teacher if you can. Her lecture and study guides are useless because only like 5 questions show up that has anything to do with what you studied. You'll have to study for two different things: lab exam and lecture which is way too much to remember. You will also have to do a lab writeup. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Took BIOSC11 in the summer and was intimidated at first, due to all the material that you need to know in just a short amount of time. But it is doable, especially with Kelly. She is so informative and very clear. I loved her style of teaching.Listen to her lectures and study the notes and you'll be guaranteed an A. She made biology so interesting!!
I loved her class! Lectures were super helpful and interesting. She made everything very easy to understand. Lab sessions helped to reinforce what was learned in lecture. She's willing to help students out and is very nice. The class could be challenging at times, but if you put in some effort, you'll finish with a good grade.
Professor Neary is my absolute favourite professor so far. I would come by ever week for her office hours regarding my grade in the class and some personal questions about the material. I did not have the need to look at the book at all. She is amazing!
I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She's the bestest teacher ever!! I took her over an online class in the Summer and I'm currently almost done with this semester. I love how she gets straight to the point, barely even use the book because her powerpoints are so informative and simple, her study guides are great, and she's very helpful & nice! TAKE HER, NOW!!!!
Not a good teacher, but she thinks she great. Not a nice person really. Plays politics too much. Generally not supportive. Don't recommend.
She is an amazing teacher, gives tones of relevant information in her precise and concise lectures thus, it’s better to record her lectures. Attend each lecture to do well in her exams. You can trust her knowledge, the critical thinking skills that we develop in her class are useful in our academic and professional life.
Honestly she's an amazing teacher. There is a lot a work but once you get used to it, it won't seem like that much. It gets easier over time. Her class is made up of exams, practicals, labs, quizzes, and 1 writing assignment. I thought they were all fairly easy if you just put effort into them. I loved learning in her class, she taught me so much.
Awesome teacher. The class is alot of work but its easy if u get the hang of it. The power point handouts and lectures are very helpful. She gives out study guid for every test even the lab practicals. Theres one essay you have to do thats easy. she's a Fun teacher. i highly recommend her. you dont have to get the book u will barely use it.
Real Talk, Class was different from other Biology classes. I would not advice taking this class if you are taking other classes or working a job. It is NOT an easy class and you will have to put a lot of Time into it so no late night cramming. Reading the book got me through it.
Class was okay. Not Easy but not hard just ALOT of work so if you want to take a Physio with less effort I advice to take it with another professor. Need to know ALOT of little details in addition to the big picture. Tricky so You cannot slack off, must focus ALL the time. Can be difficult to get the grade you want.
This class was an easy A. Lab and lecture. In lab just pay attention to what you are doing. Understand the question and answers. Lecture: pay attention then review material daily. She is confident, smart, and helpful.
Pay close attention to every word she says in class, especially lab. She was kinda rude if we asked questions about the instructions, her attitude is not very friendly most of the time, she seems tired and bored many days.
She is quite a rude teacher to be honest. Tough time when it comes to exams, so exams average most of the time is 60% . She doesn't have passion for Bio, but for the paycheck . Not recommended.
Awesome instructor, tests based on lecture & very straight forward, lab exams based on labs, prelabs, post lab questions, getting the main idea of the lab is whats important. Dont expect to pass if you dont review the material or come to lecture, but if you ask for help she's great at helping you understand. Best science teacher at Mission
Great teacher, it was an online course and it was the best run that I have experienced. Very clear, with good video lectures, and well defined assignments. She is also extremely friendly and approachable, if you have a question she will do everything she can to answer it even if it goes well beyond the coursework.
I don't understand why every single review I write gets deleted. I'm just being honest with my experience. All I'm saying is that a lot of people dropped her class and that she does not grade fair and her lectures are incomplete and she goes over the materials really fast.
Best instructor Ive ever had. She is very organized and helpful. And boy she knows physiology. Some students are intimidated by her but shes actualy really friendly if you talk to her. Tests are tough but she is clear about what to expect on them. You have to study hard and do the work. She wont do it for you
Took the hybrid class over the summer that had 3hr lab twice a week and several video lectures a week. I did not watch a single lecture online and still did ok in the class, although I would have probably gotten an A had I. She is a good teacher and is very smart. If you show an interest and try she will be extra helpful.
Labs are fun, lectures not so much. I love science, and I would want a professor who has a passion for it as well. While professor Neary is nice, and goes over a lot of material for lectures, it would help if she pretended to at least be passionate about what she is teaching.
Very hard class. The tests are based on the lecture and lab. You need to study a lot. I rated 5/5 star because she's good at teaching. I won't take it again because it's really a hard class. I will only take it again if its required for course recency.
She is really a good teacher! Her lectures are really helpful on LECTURE EXAMS. And the LAB work is really what is gonna be on the LAB EXAMS. Idk why people say she doesnt know her material. BUT TBH, she's nice. JUST PUT EFFORT, Study, and go to her office hours! Don't wait till the 3rd exam if you really are in the border line. Get help early!
If you are looking for a nice and easy going professor, Neary is not one of them. She is well informed and educated in her areas of expertise, however she can sometimes be close-minded and prudish. Don't get me wrong! I learned a lot in her class, but I would not take her again. I aced pretty much everything, but it was not a pleasant experience.
I do not recommend if you are an impatient person. If you take the online class its very difficult she gives you up to ten videos to watch plus a 10 question quiz and a discussion to do. I personally do not enjoy this class its very time consuming. As a visual learner I learn way more in the labs than in the actual online lectures.
Honestly, I suck in science, I even failed marine biology, so signing up for this class was scary. However, Prof. Neary's online teaching techniques helped me pass this class with an A! She did her master thesis in neuroscience, and her devotion to teaching it really shows that it is her passion. PS: All of the answers are in her lecture notes!!
Do NOT take her class. She sets up a lecture exam and lab exam on the same day. She is not approachable. Ive been a straight A student and never struggled until her class. Her study guides dont help. Online lectures barely teach you anything. If you dont want to fail choose another professor.
Took this class with Lab. Tests are super hard unless you watch, pay attention and reflect back on your notes. She literally switches 1 word in the quiz questions. Online tests are based on the quizzes, she allows you to take it 5 times so thats good. Do ALL discussion posts and go to Lab. Could be easy A, easy B for lazy me. book not necessary.
Amazing professor! I was amazed at how informative her teaching was. She made herself extremely accessible through email, and was always clear about her expectations. Great introduction to neuroscience for me! Highly recommend this professor.
Pretty straightforward instructions. Do the work, abd you will be fine. Tests are multiple choice, so although the subject matter isn't easy, you should be fine. She is good at responding to emails and sending email reminders to her class.
This class is how every online class should be. There is one discussion post and one quiz per week. You're allowed 5 attempts on the quizzes and you only have to reply to one person. It's easier to pass the quizzes and tests if you read the textbook, but you can pass without reading it. The questions on the tests come straight from the quizzes.
Dont take this class over summer. Theres too many videos and too many labs. Although they were informative, its too much for an 8-week course. Got stressed out and dropped. I would advise taking it in the fall or spring with a different professor.
She enjoys changing word frequently in the quiz and test. And there are so many mistakes, typos confused me so much. I think I need this class to prepare for MCAT, but I cannot find any other session. I'm doubting if I'm gonna stay or withdraw this class.
Professor Neary's online summer class moves pretty quickly but once you get the hang of things, it's not too hard to keep up and get an A in class. There are quizzes each week (which you have 5 chances on) and her tests are basically made up of these quizzes plus a little extra material found in her lectures. Overall, not bad for a summer class :)
Neary is very passionate about Neuroscience which I can appreciate, however midterm and finals were ridiculous, never even got close to an A. All of the questions were very particular and hard to study for. Quiz questions straight out of the lectures, not so bad. Discussions were easy just answer the question. NOT AN EASY A. Nightmare tests.
Her lectures are recorded so you can look back at them anytime. There are quizzes each week and her tests are basically made up of these quizzes! Her modules are quite organized so it is easy to find and turn things in. There are weekly discussion posts, weekly quizzes, and 4 exams based on the chapters! Her office hours are quite helpful!
Kelly was great! Discussions/quizzes are SO easy to get full points on. Quizzes don't use Proctorio. Best way to study for her final is to go over answers from past quizzes, and it should be an easy A!
I LOVED her intro to neuroscience honors class! She reponds to emails and any questions, and gave me extensions as needed. Her lectures can be a lot to process because they are very informative, so I had a hard time retaining. But discussions, weekly quizzes, and even the midterms or finals were very easy. I would definitely recommend!!
Online asynchronous neuroscience, compressed into a 3 week semester. There's content basically every day; watch the lectures, take a quiz, do an online discussion assignment. Quizzes get 5 attempts each, and exams are open note/open book, so it's more about understanding it rather than memorizing it. Hard, but definitely doable.
Dr. Nearly is simply the best professor on the planet. I took Anatomy( summer 2020) & then Physiology (Fall 2021) with her. Asynchronous, online. Very clear lectures & slides, clear expectations, super caring. A small extra credit at the end. I'm a former CPA, yet I excelled in life sciences, since she made me enjoy what I studied!
I took Anatomy with Dr. Neary & enjoyed it very much (See my Anatomy feedback earlier). When I had to take Physiology, she was the only professor I wanted to take a life sciences class with. Best professor ever, fair, clear, tough grader but you get to appreciate her grading style. Highly recommended.
Took her for neuroscience. It is pretty good. Sometimes the tests are difficult. However, if you study it will become pretty easy.
About two chapters a week, can get by without textbook, lots of coloring for labs. Each chapter has lecture, discussion, lecture quiz, lab, and lab quiz. Five attempts at each quiz. Take them all and use for studying. Five pairs of exams in semester, about 50 questions on the lectures, and 50 questions on the labs. Heavy but manageable.
Neary is great. Anatomy is a tough class, and her lectures made it easier. She was concise. Its broken up into units, with 5 exams. She helps us prepare by giving us 5 attempts on each module's practice quiz. Lab manual is provided to point where body parts are with great, simple notes. I know many classmates are taking her again for physio!
There are two labs each week but she has a "life happens policy" so she accepts late work for full credit which is awesome, she uses proctorio for exams so in a way it really allows you to learn. She is so sweet and kind, I would definitely take her again and I loved her online lectures. I have learned so much from this class.
Professor Neary was a great professor; she was kind and showed me a lot while providing great feedback; it was a fun course that I felt I truly enjoyed. If you are on the fence, I would go for it; I loved this course.
Took her two years ago, and I still remember everything she taught me. She's always accessible via email or her office hours. She simplified complex topics into a very understandable way for beginners. Neuroscience is fascinating, and she sparked my interest in the class and subject!! Take her, and you won't regret it!!! Her lectures are the best!
asynch+ZTC class; i usually struggle with science but she has really clear lectures. felt like it provided a lot of info in an easy-to-understand format. really good asynch format!! each module is formatted really well too! expect 1 discussion board & 1 text submission that incorporates real world situations. discussion questions easy to talk to.
Grades in a very timely manner, lectures are very informational and easy to follow along with, her "life happens" policy is great.
Probably one of the most chillest classes I've ever taken at Mission College. The usual discussion and quiz are due every week. The professor offers a 'life happens' policy where due dates for assignments are extended. Proctorio is used for the tests.
Come to class prepared and on time. Review lecture, take notes and Prep-your lab in advance. Form a study group. Get a tutor if needed! If you want a good grade, study!!!
Lecture & lab exams are all in person. I would say studying is mandatory if you want to pass the class with at least a B. Studying the lab questions and lecture quizzes on Quizlet helped me pass. Exams are based off of in person lab and lecture quizzes. Would recommend making study groups! Professor was straightforward, I would take her again.
Professor Neary is the BEST. Her modules are well organized, she is very engaged with the class (even if it is online), and her content is interesting, diverse, and contemporary. She does her own lectures (and they aren't boring), she sends weekly reminders, and is available for office hours! Rare! Highly recommend Kelly for all things BIO...
I'm SO glad I took neuroscience versus boring bio. Neary's course was carefully constructed with stellar organization and no textbook. You will watch cool lecture videos by this amazing professor, along with insightful discussions & quizzes. The topics discussed were interesting &I learned a lot! The final is an essay on your overall feedback.easyA
Prof Neary is the best. She gave extra credit at the beginning and never graded late. You should always get 100% on assignments as long as you do the work by the deadline. Never had problems with quizzes or writing assignments. The content wanted was clear. I would definitely take her classes.
She is the sweetest. Her lectures are short and to the point. She really knows how to teach and how to make information manageable. I took honors, so we had to do a lit. review. She was there every step of the way to make sure we understood. She is always willing to help, and she makes bio so fun and interesting to learn. One of the best at Mission
In the beginning I struggled a lot in her exams, most importantly the lecture parts. However, i attended her office hours and she seems passionate and ready to clarify and help me understand. I gotten better at her exams and understanding the materials. I would suggest study and practice a lot for her class A LOT. She is a passionate teacher.
This professor had a kind heart but this wasn't a class I expected at all she didn't help what so ever in lab we came in blind with no guidance especially with the lab lecture portion I have no idea how she just wanted us to know the knowledge but overall she's a hard grader and do not recommend taking her.
Clear grading criteria from the start & sticks with it. Fair grader. Set aside time to study if you want a good grade in this class(grades are heavily impacted by exams as there are not many assignments or xtra credits).Exams are based off online quizzes and lab manual that she goes over, so you just need to really study those to get a good grade!
Professor Neary is a great professor. She is always accessible during office hours or after class if you have any additional questions or concerns. If you don't put in the time and effort to study for this class, you won't pass. But her exams are directly from lab questions which she covers in class and directly from her weekly online MC quizzes!
Homework consisted of weekly quizzes, discussion posts, and readings (super easy though!). The midterms and final were proctored, which made it a bit nerve-racking, but study thoroughly and you'll pass easily. The extra credit at the beginning def saves you as well!
Quiz + discussion for each chapter. Info was p straightforward. Self paced but there are due dates. Lectures are straightforward. Test questions come straight from quiz questions so make sure to study those. Towards the end when I felt too burnt out to study I would just skim the quizzes before taking the test. Also final is NON-CUMULATIVE.
Ms. Neary's class was one of the most organized online classes I have ever taken. The lecture videos are very helpful and it's clear she knows what she's talking about. As long as you do the assignments, this is an easy class to ace.
