while we did discuss michael jackson, whitney huston and even the newest diesel store, we STILL discussed the assignments and I learned alot.

Professor Nims is a great teacher and she makes the lessons of boring eng 2850 seem interesting and fun. Haters need to stop hating on her because this is college and you need to stop being lazy and check blackboard every night.

she is the best!!! i had a lot of fun in this class. her tests are kinda hard, but all she tries to do is to challenge the students. i worked hard for my grade, even went to the writing center for "rewrites". take her, if you want to have fun :)

The class is fun and while there is alot of material, she tries to make it interesting. You write 2 papers, 1 revision,a midterm and final. Participate and you will do well.

I don't understand any of you. Those of you who are posting obviously got a bad grade. You should grow up and learn to take responsibilty for your own actions. You shouldn't blame the professor for your laziness. She gives you so many chances to improve your grade: revisions, extra credit, etc. if you have a problem she will help you.

Nims is a very cool teacher. She knows her materials and asks for the best from her students, which is what all prof. should do. If you have problems, she is willing to work it out with you. She is helpful, fun, and sincere. Those who have given her a bad rating either signed up for her class thinking she'd feed them an A but got a D or didn't try.

Ill be honest she is a cool teacher.But a harsh grader and works on a horrible grading systemShe makes the class more intresting.But u have to work hard and that dosn't automaticaly give u a good grade. Hard class.The grading system is u don't get partial credit.If u get an 50 on the midterm thats an F, which gives u nothing of 20% of ur grade.suks

She is OK,much more than fair and clear;in everything.She does have favorites but it wont affect you in any sense.If you do ALL required work+participate in class you'll be fine.She gives second chances and paper revision.The workload is bearable and her classes are fun.You'll have to earn every point of the grade so dont expect an easy grade.

Nims is a good and cool prof. At the beginning of the class, you may think her class is hard and want to drop it ASAP. If you did that..then you were wrong. i do learn something from this class, you will be fine if you do all the work and work hard on it.After all, she's good, helpful....Take her if you really want to learn sth..

One of the best classes I ever took.

Professor Nims is good, but a little tough. There are 2 5-7 page papers, midterm, final, oral presentation, and bboard study questions. She expects a lot, but there's no reason you can't handle it, if you put some effort into your work. I recommend her.

One of the best experiences I've had in Baruch. A refreshing teacher. Easy going and honest at best. Key to passing the class: Do your work. A definite no brainer.

A challenging but rewarding class. At first I thought she was strict, but she warmed up quickly. There are 2 major essays, blackboard questions, presentation, midterm and final. She allows for extra credit and revisions. A fair grader. If you put an honest effort, you will do well. I got an A and I was pleasantly surprised.

She is very easy and the class is interesting, I actually learned something. I never laughed this hard in any other class. There are 2 essays, a midterm and a final. One of the essays can be revised and you can do extra credit. There is a lot of reading but it is interesting. If you do all your work on time, you will get an easy A.

At the begining she seemed to be very hard Professor;however she has a wonderful heart. No more comments other than Brilliant Teacher. When she took attendes for the first time she told me: i will see how Brilliant you are ? She scared the hell out of me. She is very helpful.

I loved this class! It was early in the morning but no one and nothing will be able to get you to participate and wake up faster than the heated discussions in Prof. Nims class. She is understanding if you just show her you are trying A lot of reading, and the tests are impossible if you do not read at all. But the A is worth the effort! Great ProF

Professor Nims is one of the best professor I've had. She is intelligent, caring and most of all fun. The readings are interesting and the discussions are the best part. She is demanding but is all worthy.

Just to set it straight: The person who posted before must have gotten a bad grade in the course. It was a great course. Since when does a teacher have to write on the board? Especially at Baruch, where everything is on PC. Get a life.

Oh, What a horrendous class. She didn't write a single word on the board all semester...That being said, we all know, if a teacher doesn't write something on the board, it paralyzes us from learning. How horrible of her.... I guess I just need that extra push--like writing on the board-- in order to absorb anything at all.

How to do well in Prof Nims' class: Ready?PARTICIPATE! DO THE READINGS! That's all. She's a great prof. A hard grader, but fair. You should know how to write papers by now. She won't spoon feed you. You have to think for yourself & back up assertions. If the class goes off on a tangent, its b/c nobody is participating & she doesn't like to drone on.

She's the best!! People complain about a class being boring and then they say that she jokes around too much, people don't even know what they want. I definitely recommend this class she is helpful, makes the class very interesting, organized, and a fair grader. It is not easy but it is not hard, it is like all college courses should be!!!

She is the best. She is a great professor, her classes are very interesting even at 7:25 A.M. The readings are very interesting and as a person she is wonderful. Now if you think you just going to get an easy A that is not the case you have to work and know how to write paper. Take her it is worthy.

This professor is awesome. I took her for two semesters and she is a good teacher, make class interesting and communicates wells, and gives chances for extra credit. Of Course you have to earn your grade, by writting good papers and doing your readings.

I just started taking her class, and she seems really great. She gives difficult readings, but she really elucidates the themes within them well. I hope the rest of the course follows this pattern!

Expects a lot from her students. Readings are mandatory, otherwise you will be lost for the rest of the semester and mess up your chances of getting a better grade. Try your best on the essays assignments. Otherwise 2 thumbs up...she's AWESOME

Terrific Prof. She is so down to earth. Her class is very interesting and fun. You have to read a lot for the class, but hey it's an english class, what you expect. I love Kelly Nims. She has a passion for her art and the class thrives on discussion. It is easy to fall behind in class, but just read the next thing that is due rather than lagging all semester. Cool woman, down-to-earth, and intelligent to boot. I learned a lot in this class.

TAKE HER!! Kelly Nims is AWESOME! I am incredibly picky about English professors because it is my major. She is very eye opening and it's obvious she knows her stuff. I don't know why everyone says it's so much work. 2 papers (one rewrite), 2 exams and one really easy group presentation. Overall...great class...even at 725 in the morning!

She makes you work! So don't let yourself get behind. She let's you do rewrites for one of the papers and you have chances for extra credit. Her classes are fun and interesting. The time flies in her class and even though is very early in the morning, you will never fall alseep.

Attendance is mandatory! She will brush it off when you come in late, but she keeps it in mind when she grades. My tardiness prevented me from getting an A and instead received a B+ even with extra credit. Midterm is insanely difficult, chances are you are going to fail, but Final is somewhat easy. Two essays, pretty easy, and a group presentation.

Incredible teacher, like a cool aunt teaching you english, shes knows alot, very open, down to eaRth and makes the class fun. Must read assigned reading, do blackboard questions, and just participate. group presentations, and no lateness. Great professor and is very good at teaching and creating enthusiasm for material. Very strict in grading your writing. Writing has to be exactly the way she wants it. Final exam is absolute killer. identify obscure passages from works. Take her if you want a fun class, but be prepared to work!

It's hilarious. ALL of the students complaining before me are the STUDENTS WHO DON'T MAKE THE EFFORT TO TALK/RAISE THEIR HANDS IN CLASS.(Answer/ask a question in class. It's simple.) And ALL teachers DO take a liking to those that speak up, not those that sit and watch them. After all it is partially a discussion class. Nims is EXCELLENT. Take her.

This class was a lot of work but fun. Lots of reading and questions on blackboard that must be done before class. Prof NIms is very helpful and easy grader.

What separates the A students from the B students? Effort, she makes it crystal clear that she wants in to actively participate and if expect everybody to get As you should not be in college, do what you are supposed to do and you'll receive a fair grade. She is very unique individual and selects rather interesting texts.

Ms. Kelly Nims made it so worth it waking up for 725am class. I recommend following her instructions and requirements and you'll do very good. I was lucky enough to experience such enthusiastic and passionate professor. She rocks!

No other professor has influenced me as much as Nims. She's amazingly smart, passionate and hilarious. Somehow she manages to discuss shocking injustices in class with enough humor to keep you engaged and enough honesty to make you enraged. Professor Nims is a rare combination of an amazing person and an excellent teacher. Her class is extremely hard but interesting. If she sees that you care and are hardworking she will reward you with a grade you deserve.The critical reading that she was done in her class influenced my perspective on literature. Be prepared to read a lot. Even though the readings are difficult, she explains it very clearly. Papers, midterm, and final should be easy if you read and understand everything. Even though the class is boring, professor nims is entertaining and funny.

If you want to do well, my advice is to always show up to class ON TIME (she's anal about time), try to answer most of the blackboard questions, and just show that you are trying if you're struggling with the material. Nims, is one of the best professors in the Baruch College. She likes to teach and interact. It is always better to participate in her class because that shows your level of knowledge and she appreciates that. 2850 is not an easy class, but reading that she assigns are just awesome. Work hard and you will have a reasonable grade.

She is the best professor ever. You have to read whatever she assignes, can not skip anything otherwise final becomes a nightmare. Sparknotes works well for some of them.

Prof. Nims provides her students an EXPERIENCE in learning. Having taken it during the summer semester, there was A LOT to read in a short time frame. However, she clarified any confusions and has a passion for both literature and teaching that is unlike anyone else at Baruch College. Read, go to class, and the experience speaks for itself.

Professor nims is the best professor in baruch. Her class is a whole experience. I learned a lot from the work but more importantly through class discussions. My all time favorite professor at Baruch ^_^ ! She is extremely passionate, which makes learning from her all the more pleasurable. Attendance isn't a must, as long as you read the book, but class discussions definitely help out a LOT. There were 2 tests, a paper, and a group presentation. Oh and an extra credit presentation !!

I love Prof. Nims :) She is truly an amazing professor. If you try hard and can write a good essay, take her because you will love her discussions of the text. How to write a good essay in her eyes (IMO)- relate to what she's said in class, compare two works, find literary criticism. Though it isn't required, she went to Columbia- she will like it.

If you did not take her class then you are missing out. Her class discussions are uber interesting and funny at the same time. She is extremely passionate about her work thus we benefit from that. Fit your other classes around her class because it is worth it. If you love to read then this is the class for you if not run away. Two thumbs up!!!!

LOOOVE NIMS!!!! I never thought I would learn so much from someone, not just about the course subject, but even myself. Dr. Nims has to be one of the most influential professors in my college career, period! It really should be a crime not to take one of her classes prior to graduating-from any major! She is an awesome person, in/outside of class.

Dr. Nims is an incredibly engaging teacher! Her classes are all discussion based and she chooses books that will keep you interested, for the most part. She wants you to follow her format for informal and formal papers, but her grading is fair. Never overworked, and she has fair expectations of her students.

Prof. Nims runs a great class. Expect to be challenged but you will be rewarded for your effort. Prof. Nims is extremely intelligent and wonderfully engaging. This class is a true college level class that requires critical thinking. I could not have enjoyed this class more.

I had a great time in this class because she's so passionate. Her class is the right amount of difficulty (not that easy but not that hard either). You'll most likely fail the midterm but she gives an easy final and extra credit. Also, participate and she'll reward you. And DON'T BE LATE, trust me. Oh and she's easy on the eyes too!

She is a very good professor, very intelligent and into the material. Her course goes exactly according the syllabus, there was discussion groups on BB almost every week, two papers and a midterm and final. She will destroy your paper if its bad, but allows one revision. She lets you do a ton of extra credit which may help your grade.

Dr. Kelly Nims is one of the best professors at Baruch! Although she is a great professor, her class is arguably one of the hardest you will ever take. She gives two papers, a group project, a midterm, and a final. She's willing to help you and tries to relate the (boring) material to present day issues. I definitely would take her again.

Professor Nims is hilarious! She always go off topic and tells you something interesting (mostly her trip in Africa). Sometimes I fell asleep and her interesting stories always woke me up. The papers are long (5-7 pages) but its doable! Do extra credit. It'll boost your grade. Also, like other people say, you'll most likely fail the midterm.

Prof. Nims is an amazing instructor. She tells great stories and is very kind, but she's also blunt- if your work is bad, she'd tell you outright. The class is interesting and stimulating- two essays, 4 quizzes, and a final (but that's only for the summer session). I recommend her to anyone I can, even though you'll have to work for a good grade!

Insanely light workload (if you're used to writing papers) and so easy to talk to. She assigned 4 response papers, 1 group project, 1 formal essay and then the final paper. No midterm, No Final. She's pretty strict about her page length and attendance. Not an easy A class. She goes through books pretty quickly so you need to keep up. I recommend.

By far the best professor Baruch has to offer. Intense reading but she explains everything in class so clearly and is really funny while doing it. There was never a dull class because of her. She really challenges you to think. You'll probably fail the midterm but it's okay because she offers great extra credit. I would recommend her to everyone.

She is amazing. Second semester at Baruch, so far her lecture is my favor. Read everything that she ask for, they are all in syllabus, so you can read them ahead. 2 papers, she grades them base on your ideas and thought, not how well you can write. Midterm and Final are fair, as long as you do the readings and reviews.

Lot of reading (it's a Lit class), she's by far my fav prof at Baruch. Her mid term is hard, she tells you that up front, gives you plenty of extra credit. She grades tough on your two papers, but again extra credit. Take her class, participate in the discussions and you'll have a lot of fun.
