This beg. comm class is great for getting past the fear of public speaking. O'Bannon is funny, helpful, and teaches intensively yet quite effectively. Quite fair and realistic in her expectations. Doesn't teach the book, but important info. Great class!

Great teacher, speeches to give, but it isn't nerve racking. You get to know everyone in your class! Its a really fun class.

Hard grader. Highly recommend that you look at alternates. Her classroom atmosphere felt more like highschool than university.

She is an excellent teacher who actually makes you work hard for your grade! Her grading system is clearly explained it's just that a lot of people are dumb enough to think that the class is an easy A. I know both guys and girls that managed A's so that ought to shut everyone up that says she discriminates! You learn a lot if you work hard!

She is AWESOME! I was terrified of speech. Other students recommended her to me and I am so glad! I was shy and nervous, but I did EVERYTHING she said and I got an A. She is a very fair, but rigid, grader. Complainers didn't want work. You can't be unprepared and pass. If you ask her for help she will spend as long as it takes to help you succeed.

Fantastic. If your not willing to put in the time, then don't bother taking the class. She encourages you to become friends with everyone in the class and it works. Take notes and follow her instructions perfectly to get an A. She's always willing to help students. Take advantage of her office hours. Let her check over your work ahead of time.

Love this teacher. Speaks fast but always makes sure the class is on the same page as she is. Giving speeches is the worst part but she makes you feel comfortable.

The class was challenging but you learn so much from her. She does does not play favorites and the people who put effort into their work passed. The people who did not pass probably did not put any effort into their work and blame Mrs. Obannon for their bad grade.

Challenging but I learned so much about public speaking in that class. I can safely day that if it weren't for her I would be much worse at public speaking. She's fun and entertaining. and desrves a chili pepper. ;)

The class is normally lots of fun. She is very easy going and gives good exercises for helping with giving speeches. I hate speaking in front of crowds, she has helped with that. And I am not one of her favorite students.

Kelly O'Bannon is a fantastic professor. She is very tough, yes, but her intentions are good. I love how she doesn't use a book to guide what she talks about, she just teaches us from her own knowledge. It makes me feel confident in the fact that she knows what she is talking about. I would definitely recommend this class, and professor.

She is a great teacher, really loves to teach. She engages everyone into what she is teaching and is really passionate and determined to make the class as fun and simple as she can. Attendance is mandatory for the reason that there is no book to refer to she gives you all you need through notes. Wonderful teacher really loved being in her class!!!

My favorite class and instructor of all time! She is fun and quirky! Her expectations are very clear, and IF YOU FOLLOW THEM you will excel. No textbook is required, as she gives you all the information you need in her lectures. She requires you to learn the names of each person in the class, which is not difficult because the class size is small.

I absolutely loved this class, her outlines are a bit tedious, but she makes giving speeches a lot of fun. Also, she gets everyone to be friends and socialize with one another, so that you don't feel nervous when you speak in front of the class. Aside from the outlines, the class is definitely one worth taking :)

It is true that she has favorites. So do really well on the first speech and you will be one of them. It is a lot of work for a Gen Ed class and she docks you for a lot of small mistakes on speeches.

Wow!!! all of obannons exercises worked. They have made me because a fan of public speaking. Yea there are some raters who say she has favorites, but see if you do not want to put the effort in class then go take Theater 232 instead. O'bannon is by far the best communications professor at CSUB. Take it with here you wont regret unless you dont put

Many of you have simply come down with a case of wussitis. O'bannon's standards are high, but very achievable. I disagree with the "playing of favorites" assessment so many of you have made. Her main goal is to make you a stronger public speaker. I even satirically mocked her sense of style for my last speech and got an A. Toughen up, kiddos.

LOVED HER CLASS!! Professor O'bannon made the 8:30am class so interesting and the time flew by!! I ACTUALLY made long-lasting friends when I knew nobody.. She is the very best! The final was the BEST final I have taken in my entire life; awards and potluck, oh yeah! I would take her class all over again.

I had O'Bannon in my first quarter of college. She is energetic and encouraging, and super helpful whenever you need it. She sticks to her word. Each individual class period is different, keeping the class interesting. I can say with confidence that anyone who takes her class and takes it seriously will come out of it a stronger public speaker.

This professor changed my life. If it wasn't for this amazing class, I wouldn't have changed my major to Communications. She's funny, inspiring, and actually teaches what makes a speech great. I've used what she taught me everyday since! It takes work to get good grades, so don't be lazy, put in the effort and it will pay off in spades!

i had her class at 8:30 am and she is just full of energy. she is there during office hours and will make an effort to help u. i hate public speaking, but managed through this class. her final was fun and easy. if she feels like there is less students attending her lass that day, she will do a small 5 question pop quiz. those are really simple!

Makes students feel so comfortable talking in front of the entire class. She offers extra credit that will boost your grade up. Makes class fun and interesting. she's really silly, easy final. recommend taking her.

This was a tough class, but if you show up and use her office hours she will help you. 3 speeches , first one fairly easy, then progressively harder as the class went along. I got an A but worked my butt off for it. Super Super nice lady though.

She is a very good teacher. She really pushes you to get out of your comfort zone and helps you to know how to give good speeches. She is very helpful and before your speech day gives you a lot of advice. I STRONGLY recommend her. And the class is not very hard just make sure to have your stuff done. And memorize the definition of communication

An excellent comm professor. Make sure when she tells you to change something in your outline make sure to change it because it will help you during the speech. Also she was very energetic and funny. The final was very fun and i do recommend her for all you people who are shy to talk in front of people. Make sure you attend class everyday.

She is a great communication professor, but she grades too harshly especially for your general ed. Many of the other professors do not grade to tough especially Comm. 108. If I were you I will take someone else for Comm. 108

She is a very funny professor who makes class fun. Not practicing before your speech will bring your grade down and make sure you complete the outline drafts on time so she can give you feedback. She is a tough grader and "little" things like posture, eye contact, and gestures can bring your grade down. I slacked off and was lucky to get a C.

Great communications teacher. As long as you come everyday, do your hw(not too much given regularly), and prepare for your speech you will get an A no problem

Professor O'Bannon was a tough but awesome professor to have. I feel that her lectures and stories really brought out that she was passionate about teaching the basics of communications. Professor O'Bannon is amazing, she truly is passionate about public speaking and has some really good stories. Although she is a tough grader she makes sure to prepare you for your speech and gives great feedback. She does give quizzes out of the blue but its simple just make sure you write notes and memorize certain things. Would highly reccomend

My first college class and made things made and interesting. She was very fun and she was so passionate about her teaching. She had a certain type of way of doing outline for the speeches. Had some quizzes but no textbook needed.

She is an amazing professor. She takes her job seriously (as a professor should), yet makes it fun. She also helps create a friendly environment making it easier when speech day arrives. Workload was moderate but gives more than enough time to complete assignments. Advice: Don't slack off, go to class, and visit her office hours if you need help.

I had major anxiety about comm, but we go over the speeches so much you memorize them so it's not hard. O'Bannon is super nice, doesn't call you out in front of class, just do your outlines with plenty of time so you can do well. She's picky about sources, so choose plenty. Final was super easy two minute speech. Pick topics you like.

Very funny and nice teacher! She gives great feedback when it comes to outlines/speeches. She makes sure you have no doubts about your outlines and does not single you out.

Communications is boring but she makes it pretty fun and isn't too strict about topics. She makes you work for the grade, just do all the assignments she asks of you- on time. She is great at what she does and makes the class as interesting as it will get. She cares about her students success, you just have to be willing to do the work.

If you're not good at public speaking you will for sure learn in this class. She's very funny and she's understanding but won't change your grade. When it comes to speeches she's not a hard grader. I don't really like public speaking but this class was always fun. She doesn't assign a lot of homework but attendance is mandatory.

She makes the class feel like a family and its not as stressful when doing a speech. The only homework are outlines you dont finish in class. She allows you to miss days, except presentation days. 10/10 recommend.

Professor O' Bannon is a great person and lecturer. You need to try and do all the speeches in order to pass. Practice is a must! You need to rehearse your speech, not to the point where you memorize but to the point that you understand. She defines an amazing public speaker and you will have fun! She is a not the easiest grader, but she cares.

Great professor. Honestly I was scared to take her at first due to some of the reviews. However after taking Mrs Obannon I can confidently say that Im happy that I did. I learned a lot of communication skills from this class as well as skills on how to give a speech properly and how to study for one.

Professor Obannon is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She genuinely cares about her students and wants all of them to succeed. With that being said though, she does grade a bit hard, but that is because she cares. If you put in the work, you will pass this class no problem.

She was the first professor I had a connection with. I'd always go to her for ?s about outlines/speech topics & she was always happy to help. Make sure to do your outlines so you're not rushing to do it before your speech date. Outlines may be hard to understand at first but don't be scared to ask her on feedback & how to make it stronger.

P. O'Bannon is one of the best professors I have come by, and I thank my lucky stars that I had her. She genuinely cares about her students and their well being. The work itself requires a bit of focu, but she lets you to focus on your interests. There are no quizzes or readings, and you have to be in class. One of the easiest, fun courses ever. A+

The professor was very enthusiastic and gave great example speeches. The speeches you will do are easy but you have to practice. First speech is 4-6 minutes and it's about yourself. The next is 6-8 minutes and it is informative. The third speech is 7-9 minutes and it is persuasive. The final is an easy one and it's fun. Would recommend this class.

Kelly O'Bannon was a fun professor who allowed you to express yourself creatively through your assignments (huuuuge for me). She was always kind and helpful. If you take public speaking with her, you do have to publicly speak. There's no way around that. It can be difficult for some people, but she is easy to approach and work with.

Took this spring of 25, professor was great. Attendance is absolutely mandatory, and you better get ready to talk to people. Midterm and final are easy, I found that practicing speeches and structuring them were the hardest parts. Presenting your speech isn't too bad, since nobody is good at it either. My advice, go first. Get the nerves out.
