i think she was a great help, you just have to ask her the right questions and she will show you exactly what you want to know, she really is helpfull and means well.

Great for both 1050 and 1051 labs. Like others have mentioned, she will not just give you the answers, but steer you in the right direction and guide your understanding, which is what she should do. This is university and not high school after all! Very friendly and always smiling. A very likeable person and really knows her physics! :)

I can't believe she doesn't have a higher rating! she is probably the best professor I've had out of my three years at mun. Helpful, interesting and a general concern for how students are doing. Does fun examples in class and more than that, does PERTINENT examples, which is more than i can say for most profs. They help on the test and on CAPAs.

I was shocked to see Kelly's ratings so low, she was always very helpful. And while she doesn't usually answer a question directly she helps you figure things out on your own. Which is part of the whole learning process. I hated physics before Kelly made me realize I could figure things out on my own. Definitely recommend her for lecture or for lab

I absolutely hated physics until I had Kelly. She is so kind and approachable, and makes the course a lot less intimidating. She is especially helpful in the labs, and she is the reason I didn't drop the course.

Kelly shorlin was very clear and direct. tough grader and tough tests but very fair, will definitely help-you just have to ask. must do the assignments. lectures werent boring and labs were not bad. posts lots of extra work on d2l which help a lot for tests.

Best physics prof i've had yet! A lot of notes, but all appear on tests and the final. Only tests on what she teaches, and is very helpful. LOTS of practice problems (most show up on tests and the final) so she prepares her students well! Lectures aren't boring, and she does examples in class that help with CAPA's and the final. She's very approachable and always willing to help. had her for 1050 and 1051 labs and 1051 professor. 1051 is an extremely difficult course but Dr. Shorlin is a great professor and really tries to make sure all of her students grasp the material covered in lectures, labs and problem sessions. She posts all notes online along with extra problems for each chapter as well as old midterms and finals which is really helpful. She's the best!

Kelly is the most organized prof i've ever encountered. She has colour coded notes that highlight key equations, including definitions of symbols, and step-by-step examples. The material is difficult but easy to grasp if you attend lectures, ask questions, and complete assignments once material is covered. She is also always in the help centre!

Kelly Shorlin is who your mom would be if your mom was a physicist (super caring, & patient). Phys 1051 is no doubt a hard course, but she is more than happy to give you as much time as you need outside of class to explain whatever you can't understand. If you put the time in, there is ZERO reason why you should fail.

alright prof. Dr. Shorlin is very considerate and knows her material. goes over a lot of examples of various course materials. there are 2 midterms and a final. Was in a large lecture hall with 200 more students, but she still had time to answer individual questions

Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had! She truly cares about her students and goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone understands the material. She uses lots of visual examples, which helps keep class interesting. As far as testing goes, her tests are fair and are very similar to the homework questions and work done in class.

Kelly is exactly like you mom. She wants you to do well and will do anything she can to help you understand concepts. Her lectures are recorded with video and audio and she posts all of her lectures notes after class, so if you miss a lecture you can just watch it at home. I would highly suggest her for anyone who it taking physics.

Physics 1051 is just an insanely hard course, therefore I don't blame Kelly for students failing at all, its just the course itself. Take her if you want any chance of passing physics 1051.

The most caring and best professor will have ever have at MUN. Her notes and classes are the best. I never attended most of her class in person instead watched most of it on lecture capture recording which was helpful. Do take her and fall in love with the course and her. :)

She is such a sweet professor. She truly cares about her students, she constantly reminds you in class about her office hours. She always does demos in class, she's such like a physics high school teacher. Physics 1051 is hard, but she gives solid notes and examples for practice. And if you're willing to put in the work she gives, you'll do good.

Lectures are great as she explains important topics well and does a lot of examples. She posts lecture slides to D2L prior to the lecture and if you end up missing a lecture, she also posts a recording. Tests are somewhat easy and a good final. -2 Mid Terms - Final - Labs - 4 Written Assignments (Easy) -

She gives excellent lectures, tests are difficult but fair if you know the material, she is easy to find outside of class and will help you the best she can. Overall a great choice.

I took her for 1050 and I took her again for 1051, great prof, wants you to succeed, if she's a option, take her.

Kelly works through examples in class, posts her personal worked solutions to old finals and uses lecture capture recordings. A very respected prof who doesn't tolerate people being distracting in class. She is also happy to answer any questions regarding the material during or after class. Highly recommend her as a prof as1050 is a hard course.

She is amazing! You just have to pay attention in class because it is easy to get bored some times. However, she always tries to prevent this from happening by doing experiments in class. she is a fair grader but her tests questions shows exactly how much you studied. I love physics in general so if you don't, you might disagree with what I said.

Kelly is an absolute MOM prof. She cares 100% for her students, if you go to her for extra help she will take the time to make you understand. In my class, she had lecture capture and posts before and after class notes. Her assignments are pretty easy too. I absolutely hate physics but with her, I will pass with a solid understanding.

I'm not the biggest fan on physics, but Shorlin's class actually got me to enjoy the material. She's a great instructor and seems to really care about her students. Tests and final exam are pretty fair, and she gives lots of assignments, some of which are worth bonus marks. She's very organized and her lectures are great and interesting.

Kelly is a lovely person and well-rounded educator. She is always seeking your success, and would develop new methods to help you better, ie she started a snapchat account and a youtube channel for extra help. She is very accommodating, and would do demos of experiments during lecture to keep you interested!

Kelly always tried to make her lectures interesting by doing in class demonstrations which was awesome. She is super sweet and caring however when test time rolled around I often felt unprepared even despite taking advantage of all of the extra resources she provided.

Ms. Shorlin has very well made pre-recorded lectures, is friendly and well organized, and is easily accessible outside class through snapchat and email. She was a joy to have and somehow managed to make 1051 palatable.

You won't find a professor that cares about the success & well-being of students as much as Kelly. She is unbelievably patient when you do not understand a topic - if you go to her office hours, she takes the time to go over the question in its entirety. Had Dr. Shorlin this year online for physics and I plan on going back to her for 1021 as long as her class is not full. Super understanding of students and university life, gives lots of examples in lectures and answers any questions you have quickly. Anyone with previous physics background or just starting out, would 10/10 go with her!

Physics 1020 online with Dr. Shorlin was very homework heavy. Weekly mastering questions, prelab, lab, and sometimes assignment. However, she takes student's feedback very often, often giving us extensions on assignments. She also took feedback from the school and lightened the workload at the end of the semester. The final exam was fairly easy.

Hands down the BEST prof I have ever had at MUN. I'm not a Physics person, but Dr. Shorlin explained her examples clearly and worked out every step, so I was able to understand them completely. She often extended deadlines and cancelled class a few times to give us a break. She listens to student feedback and really seems to care!

Everyone should take at least one class with Shorlin. Makes you fall in love with physics, and helps you land on your feet no matter what. She's the most helpful, caring, and knowledgeable professor I've ever had. There's a bit of work involved, between the assignments and exams, but she'll help you through it. Very responsive. Dr. Shorlin is an amazing professor. She is the most caring prof I have had. I took Physics 1020 and 1021 with her online and she is very accommodating and understanding during these times. She is always there to help during office hours or outside. Her notes are very detailed. There is a fair amount of assessments but all very doable!

I absolutely adore Dr Shorlin. Will reply to your emails in a jiffy, and has regular online hours, which are also later posted. Very compassionate, will help you through absolutely anything. Lectures are the best lectures I have ever seen, and her notes and assignments are the only tools you'll ever need. Genuinely sad the course ended.

Great Physics Prof. Goes over all course material and lectures very clearly. There is alot of mastering physics assignments but it is great practice and she gives lots of extra credit questions on them. Will change due dates whenever to accommodate students. If you do all the work youll have no problem getting a good mark. Great teacher

I found Shorlin to be a great proffessor, she really cares for her student's wellbeing and wants you to do well. She gave two extra-credit assignments after having a poorly recieved second midterm and did lots of preparing for our final. There is a lot of assignments along with labs, but it is a science course so what can you expect?

Kelly's my favourite prof at MUN. This is my first time taking a physics course and she made it super easy. Test questions came straight from the notes she did in class or the assignments (which could sometimes be difficult) and she graded very fairly. Attendance wasn't mandatory because of lecture capture.

Lectures were engaging. Labs were engaging, albeit sometimes not so. The assignments were fair. The exams, both midterms and final exams, were not what I would call fair. They were much more tough than they should have been. An option for extra credit was offered after the second midterm. However, the exams should likely be adjusted given low perf.

Amazing professor. Clearly explains and gives numerous examples. 10 assignments that you could do til you get 100 and very lenient with extensions. Midterms were hard, but she did offer a grade boost if you did better on final, which wasn't too bad. Answered every email I sent her within a day. i loved dr shorlin for two semesters. however i did not like either of her final exams. i found them very hard and i did not like how the "answer key" for her practice exams have no workings (cant see where you went wrong). i like her assignment style a lot though. you have unlimited time and attempts on questions until the due date.

Lots and lots of assignments (11 in total) and lectures which I sometimes found a little cringe-worthy when she tried to get the students involved, but Dr. Shorlin was always helpful whenever I emailed her and her course overall was not too difficult, though I had to practice a lot to feel prepared for the midterms and final.

Kelly was a pretty good prof for the teaching side of things, but I found her so unhelpful during tests and exams. The overall course was pretty simple and she made the exams very similar to old exams and homework problems. If you did every single example she gave before a test, you would get an A easily.
