You can tell that she's definitely passionate about what she does. Very excited. Only 3 big essays; the grading may be a little tough, but I only see it as fair. You get to do a rough draft of each essay which she corrects but doesn't grade. There's a little reading and ridiculously easy quizzes on it. I would def recommend this class to anyone.
Highly recommended! Only three big essays and some small reading and writing assignments plus a few really easy quizzes.class is just a discussion on the readings. Plus she is very very move and willing to help ay any time
the best professor on uwlax campus. very helpful can talk to her about anything. only three very easy five page essays. no final exam. the readings she hands out are very quick and easy. i recommend her for everyone.
Best professor on campus thus far! She is extremely excited and passionate about her work. I would highly recommend her for students seeking help in writing as well as students seeking a challenge. She really caters to every student's needs individually.
BEST TEACHER EVER
She loves her job and loves to teach. GREAT TEACHER!!!
Kelly is the most enthusiastic professor I have encountered here at UWL. Gives daily quizzes (often including extra credit),2 major essays, midterm&final exam. Will give extensions and extra office hours for help if you ask! Expects class participation but readings are easily done in 30 mins or less. Perfect gen ed class. I will miss her!
Most inspiring English teacher I have had so far. Daily reading quizzes, but if you do the reading, you will be fine. Gives good feedback on essays (a paragraph at the end describing your strengths and weaknesses). I loved ENG 204 because of her. I would definitely recommend taking her class. She inspired me to do better.
few reading assignments & quizzes, are very easy if you read for them. 3 papers during the semester, 1 counts as the final exam. For each paper you have essays 2-3 pages that lead up to it, but make it easier to write the final. You have leeway on chosen topics. She is a VERY HELPFUL professor and makes english fun. I highly recommend taking her
Amazing teacher!! Loved going to class and very enthusiastic. Highly recommended, looking forward to taking her class for ENG 204.
Soo nice and so enthusiastic! I used to absolutely dread writing papers but she actually made me like it! I learned so much in her class and feel like I have drastically improved my writing skills! She is so helpful if you go into her office hours (which is required for some papers). You get days off when papers are due. Take her!
One of my favorite professors at UWL! I loved coming to class, and she was incredibly helpful. Also very understanding of the fact that her class is not the only one we have to prepare for.
Very helpful and extremely enthusiastic! Straightforward with what she expects -- lots of writing, but each paper builds on to the next which makes it easier in the end. Gives daily quizzes that are easy if you do the reading. No class the week papers are due to give you time to work on them. My favorite teacher of the semester! Take her!!
She is an amazingly dedicated teacher that has high expectations but helped me improve immensely!
Dr. Sultzbach is any university's dream professor. She is not only beautiful but extremely intelligent with amazing teaching skills. She cares about her students as if they were her children, she loves to teach and her classes never get boring. I wish I was an English major so I could take many classes with her. She is a great professor, take her!
Dr. Sultzbach could well be described as a perfect professor. She is extremely enthusiastic about the subject, and does an excellent job of teaching. She genuinely cares about her students, and made coming to class fun. I almost regret not being an English major, so that I could have her for another class.
Dr. Sultzbach was THE BEST professor that I ever had at UWL, even though I am a science major she made me want to change my major! I would recommend this class to any one, regardless of your English skills. She is the absolute best!
Good professor. 3 main essays that make up most of your grade, but not much work besides that. Very helpful, kind of a hard grader.
one of the BEST professor. She requires everyone to speak sometime during the semester and is very passionated about what she teaches. Didn't like poetry but she made me like it. Each week mini quiz on reading (which are easy if u read what she assign) , 2 essay, and 2 midterm (Super easy). Easy "A" if you read and show up for class. TAKE HER!
Kelly is amazing. Prior to this course I was dreading ENG, but Dr. Sultzbach made writing great. Putting time into your papers is needed to succeed, but Kelly is very helpful. I advise taking her.
Amazing teacher and a pretty good class. Have readings prior to each class with a quiz to start every day. As long as you read the materials the quiz questions are very easy. 2 Essays, a Midterm, and a Final. Essays are 5-6 pages, but she will look over your thesis with you until its satisfactory for her standards. Take her.
Kelly is very passionate about what she does, and I was really inspired to become a better writer and really focus on my work. She also does't let the material get too dry; it is all controversial, interesting material that she covers. She is VERY helpful, always gives great feedback, and if you try in her class you will get an A!
Dr. Sultzbach is seriously amazing. Class is alwasy interesting and interactive. You get three free absenses. Two papers a midterm and a final. Daily quizzes are the easiest quizzes ever. TAKE HER!
Dr. Sultzbach is my favorite teacher I have had at UWL so far. I was not looking forward to this class, but she made it so enjoyable! Class was never boring and you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. Kelly is extremely helpful and truly cares that her students do well. TAKE HER!
Kelly is an amazing English teacher. She is always making sure that everyone is understanding the material and gives great feedback on your papers. READ THE MATERIAL or you will NOT do well in the class. She makes an effort to know everyone's name and will help you through class discussions.
She is amazing. Absolutely amazing professor. Because of her love and passion for writing, you actually realize the importance of and understand why you do all the crap you do for papers--like citing research and making bibliographies. She makes it real. Because of her, I can whip a paper up the day before for other classes and get a stellar grade
Kelly is almost intimidatingly passionate about her field, and it's awesome. She literally jumps up and down when she gets really excited about what we're reading, and she loves swearing, which is hilarious. Do the reading, pay attention to her feedback, and show an interest in class, and you'll do well. She'll make you a better reader AND writer.
Absolutely amazing teacher. Do whatever you can to get into her class!
Kelly is the best, I would have hated this class if it wasn't for her. She doesn't just teach you English, she teaches life, as corny as that sounds. But seriously, she is dedicated to the subject and made the course fun. There is some reading to do but most of them are pretty interesting. By far the best English instructor I have ever had!!!!
As a 5th-year student at UW-L, this is easily one of, if not the, best teacher(s) I have had. Super helpful, guides you through your papers, and is passionate and knowledgeable of what she teaches. She grants reasonable extensions if you have a stacked week, and encourages participation and debates. Take her if you ever get the chance.
Never given a rate my professor review but Dr. Sultzbach was worth my time to review her. She is an amazing professor. She is enthusiastic about the class and she makes the poems and readings truly entertaining and understandable. As a graduating senior, I know the difference between a good and bad professor, and Dr. Sultzbach is absolutely great!
She was an amazing professor who I would reccomend to anyone! Even if youre not an english major, I would reccomend her amazing lectures. She really cares about your learning and makes the lectures as fun as possible while challenging you to think deeply for yourself. Loved her
Kelly is the best prof. I have had so far in my college experience. I was dreading taking this British Literature class, but she made it exciting for me to come to class everyday. She is so passionate about what she teaches. If you apply yourself and make an effort to participate in class, things will go great for you. She is the best, TAKE HER!
She's like the Leslie Knope of English Professors. Super enthusiastic, truly cares about her job. The lectures were fun and informative. She's awesome.
Kelly is awesome!! British literature is a drag of a class but not with Kelly. She is so inspired by all these writings and is very open to anyone's interpretation of a reading. if you take her be prepared for her to geek out quite often... for grades we had daily quizzes that were just on what we read for class, 2 papers, and 2 exams.
If you're gonna take British Lit, take it with Kelly. Participation is encouraged but not 100% required and she doesn't make you feel bad if you don't get the exact same interpretation as she did. Grades are based on easy daily quizzes, 2 papers with multiple prompts to choose from and 2 exams. She makes it fun! Overall, she is a great professor.
Dr. Sultzbach's passion for literature and teaching radiates in her classroom. She is an absolutely amazing professor and person all around. She is extremely understanding and is always there to lend a helping hand. The assignments are not overbearing, and the 2 papers are spread out to make them as stress free as they can be. TAKE HER NO DOUBT
Although I don't normally enjoy english literature classes, Dr. Sultzbach , in my opinion,is one of the best professors that I have experienced. Even though the topic of literature wasn't a main interest of mine, I looked forward to going to her classes everyday, she was very caring about the students and had good energy. Take this professor!10/10
Dr. Sultzbach is literally flawless. Loved her. There are readings for every class, but they're short and enjoyable. Quizzes at the beginning of every class to make sure you read, but it's impossible to do poorly on them, especially since she gives extra credit questions on most of the quizzes. Exams are easy as long as you go over class notes.
I dread english classes but she makes it enjoyable. She's very open to everyone's ideas and is passionate about what she's talking about. The class has a lot of discussions, but she makes me feel comfortable with sharing my thoughts. There's a quiz every class, but she offers extra credit on them so it's hard to not do well. I definitely recommend!
Dr. Sultzbach is an amazing teacher. I hate literature and she made it enjoyable to go to class. Every class there is a reading quiz but there is extra credit on all of them. She is willing to help with anything you need. Two papers, midterm, and final exam. Great teacher! Would recommend taking her!
Quizzes everyday on what you read. She gives a round of deadlines for the big paper, all due 1-2 weeks apart from one another so you can choose which deadline works for you. Only a midterm and final exam. Gives out tons of extra credit on exams. Gives great feedback on papers and builds your confidence.
She's very sweet and is always willing to help. There are only 2 papers, the bigger one you have 3 different deadline options, you can choose whichever one works best with your schedule. Only a midterm and final exam, but were pretty simple if you look over your notes and readings. Quizzes everyday, but tons of extra credit. You can miss 3 classes.
Dr. Sultzbach is an amazing professor. I though I would hate this class and it would be boring, but it was quite the opposite. She kept all lectures interesting and had such a great attitude! There are daily quizzes for what you read, two papers, a midterm, and a final. She gives you three different options for the final paper though!
Prof. Sultzbach is the best teacher I have ever had. I took her for Btit. Lit. and it was my favorite class to date, and that's coming from a business major. Absolutely take her if you get the chance, she loves what shoe does and really cares about her students. She gives a ton of extra credit so it is easy to score well in this course.
Kelly's passion and enthusiasm for teaching exudes during every class. You learn so much more than Brit lit from her, she makes doing analyses FUN and genuinely wants you to be able to apply the criticism knowledge you learn in your future life. Highly recommend taking her, she will make you love English class again.
Kelly Sultzbach is amazing. She's a great professor and makes class super fun. I highly recommend her for anyone attending UWL. The readings are interesting and the discussions are fun.
Dr. Sultzbach is extremely high energy and wants to make her class fun for the students. She assigns quizzes everyday for the readings with basic questions. Her lectures are fun and the readings assigned are interesting and worth reading in any case. The essays are not too difficult and she is always willing to meet with students and help them.
Dr. Sultzbach is by far my favorite professor at UWL. She is amazing, and the work you do for her isn't too much but she really wants you to get involved in the literature.
Kelly is caring, empathetic, and worldly. I had her in a past semester, as she is on sabbatical at the moment. She is incredibly well-versed in a variety of fields and has impact my life in ways that I cannot begin to explain. I cannot recommend her enough: she is one of the best people I have ever met, let alone one of the best professors I had.
Kelly is like a mom. She is super funny and loves all of her students. There are a few papers but overall she lays the schedule out super nicely for you and her class never gets boring.
Dr. Sultzbach is literally the best. I have her for two classes this semester and I'm so thankful for that! It's obvious she really cares about her students and she's a flexible professor willing to help out each and every student. There is a lot of reading but that is to be expected in English courses, and of course there are a few papers.
Kelly is a great professor! She is very knowledgable and makes class fun. She gives basic quizzes based on the readings assigned at the beginning of every class. Make sure you read the material (which isn't too much per class). The overall grade is based on two essays, midterm, final, quizzes, and attendance. Highly recommend!
Dr. Sultzbach is one of the best professors I have had. You can tell she really loves what she does and wants to help students learn. She provides good feedback on all papers and assignments. Only has a midterm and final which are not too difficult if you go to class and read the readings. Overall she is awesome! Take her class if you can!
Kelly made a class that I wasn't looking forward to actually fun. It's obvious she cares through her detailed responses to every student's work and the passionate way she teaches. I wish all of my professors were like her. It takes some effort to get a good grade, but Kelly doesn't overload her students with work. Definitely take her.
I had taken her class over the summer, but had to drop out due to health reasons. The whole time though she was in constant communication with us and always gave us the proper information to successfully understand the material. She is extremely understanding and gives great feedback on our discussions, which make up the majority of the course.
She is an amazing person and teacher who has a real passion for her subject. She gets really excited about the lessons and expresses her jubilation through her lectures. She encourages group discussions that are really engaging. If you had a question she would be happy to answer. She also loves when students participate in classroom discussion.
I am a business major and hate English and reading, but Kelly made this class nice. We barely read for our LITERATURE class, just a few poems every week. She cares a lot about her students and helped me out on the papers a lot. There are only two papers and one or two exams. Super easy gen ed.
Dr. Sultzbach is an amazing professor. She is always willing to help and give great feedback on discussion posts or essays. We had a discussion post or a zoom class every week online, and the readings were very engaging. There may be 2 exams during the class, a midterm and a final. Loved this class and loved her passion for British Literature!
Kelly is an amazing professor and I highly recommend her! Assignments are based off poems and a few short stories. She is very willing to accommodate to your needs and overall an easy grader.
Professor Sultzbach truly cares about her students and is willing to work with them. She is invested in students learning from her class and it shows. There's some short readings, discussion posts, Zoom-small group and large, and a couple papers. Overall it was laid out nicely and with a reasonable amount of material and work to be done each week.
Highly recommend. Very accommodating and incredibly kind. She's not a difficult grader, but expect to read a lot. Recommend audiobooks if possible. I honestly didn't expect to learn much from this course and took it because I had to, but it ended up being my favorite class. If you need a writing elective, take this class with her!
Awesome prof who cares so much about her students and mental health. She was always willing and offered to give extensions if needed. Lots of reading but not to bad.
Dr. Kelly is a treat and if you get the chance take her! She is super passionate about literature and makes class interesting and different each day. Expect pop quizzes about the readings but you'll do fine if you read the assigned material. The grade is mostly based on 2 exams and 2 papers. She is also an easy grader!
Professor Sultzbach is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. Super nice person and cares deeply about the subject. Topics are very interesting and fun. Make sure you do your daily readings because she gives out Pop Quizzes before every class. Exams can be a bit difficult so make sure you study before hand.
Kelly was a super nice prof, she appreciated participation from everyone but didn't force you to speak up. Lots of reading and weekly assignments to go with the reading. She was a super easy grader on the papers as long as you put in effort.
She is an amazing professor who really cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
While Dr. Sulzbach was a pretty good teacher, I put in minimal effort all semester and when it came down to it, I was 1 question away on the final from an A. While I didn't talk to her, participate in class, or help my classmates, I expected her to round my grade for the greater good. However, she did not. So I do not recommend her.
Professor Sultzbach made this class very enjoyable. She assigns weekly readings with an inclass "quiz" but they are very manageable. She is always willing to give extensions and lots of extra credit opportunities. She truly cares about her students and wants everyone to do well in the course.
She is overall a very good professor and person, but I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. Expect at least 2 reading assignments per week followed with critical thinking questions. The workload is way more than it should be for a general ed class. After talking to other classmates it sounds like she gives way more homework than other classes
"This is WEIRD people!" Kelly Sultzbach was legit one of the best professors I've had at UWL. Even though her class requires a lot of reading and critical thinking, she makes it super fun to learn about Brit Lit after 1800, and I would absolutely take her class again in a heartbeat!
amazing professor! only have reading outside, not hard but sometimes there is a lot, but definitely manageable. weekly quizzes on poems but not hard if you read the poems then review before class starts. drops 4 lowest quizzes, offers extra points on a lot of quizzes. only two exams: midterm and final. only two essays & allows extensions.
Kelly is a very nice person and really wants you to learn and do well in the class. I had her hybrid online/in-person class and only had 3 papers with some discussion posts, no exams or finals. She helps you with your mistakes on your papers so you should get a good grade on them. Would her for eng. 110!!
I took english 110 as a hybrid class and loved it. She gave us assignments to work on and then when we would go into class she would go over it and answer questions. She was very caring and understood that we have other classes, and get stressed, if you let her know she would give extensions or would let you talk to her. she was amazing loved her.
Sultzbach is a really good professor to take for this GE. The books we read are pretty interesting if you take the time to read them (and if you don't wanna the notes are easy to find online). Pop quizzes on readings are typical. One or two essays. Overall it's a very easy class and I would definitely take her again if I had to do it all over.
Dr Sultzbach is an amazing professor and shows that she truly cares for her students. Go to her if you are having trouble and she always is open to help. Reading quizzes in class which you can get bonus points on. Two main essays that you can get extensions on. Overall an incredible person that genuinely wants you to succeed.
I was dreading taking another english class. I hate reading and english. Professor Sultzbach's lectures made her class so enjoyable. She is helps a lot in her office hours. She is so nice and I connected with almost everyone in my class because of her. Best professor that I have had so far. ALSO highly recommend office hours for help with essays.
She is an outstanding human! You can tell she is very passionate about English, that being said if you're taking this class just for credit.. be ready to NEED to understand all aspects of romanticism, modernism, Victorian era, etc. I went to her office hours and she appreciates that type of 1 to 1 communication and makes exam preparation easier.
She is a nice teacher. I had her for fys how to be sherlock holmes. She gives a lot of busy work but she is a great teacher. Work load is very chill and not difficult.
I had her for my first-year seminar class. It was "How to be Sherlock". While the class itself was not very interesting, she was such a joy to have as a professor. She was super nice and cared about her students a lot! She never made you feel dumb, and she honestly lifted a weight off my shoulders when I came into the classroom.
I had Dr. Sultzbach for FYS - How to be Sherlock. She was honestly great. She cares for her students a lot and tries to make class as fun as she can. She sets clear expectations and sticks to them. I would definitely take her again for an English class.
She attempts to make the lectures engaging, but with her rule of no electronics used in her class, being stuck with paper and pencil is not how I learn. You will have pages of poems due for readings by each class, and a 10pt. quiz on the readings first thing in class. She is most likely the best professor option for ENG 200, but she was not my fav.
Kelly is a very energetic and overall just nice professor. She takes the time to make sure everyone in class is understanding everything and is overall doing fine. There was a decent bit of busy work assigned, but that is just in the criteria for FYS so not much could be done. For a pretty annoying class, she was a great professor and made it fun!
You get a reading quiz at the beginning of every class but she drops your four lowest quiz scores at the end (even if you were gone that day). Also the quizzes are very straightforward. She is very energetic and clearly loves English and is very understanding and wants students to succeed.
This is the second class I've had with Kelly and it was just fantastic! She's got to be one of the most passionate and caring professors on campus. Even if you're in a large lecture hall, she takes the time to get to know every single student! She's a fantastic professor and she makes you think about things in ways you never would have otherwise!
Kelly is a great professor and person. You can tell that she really cares about her students. She can short quizzed at the beginning of every class but they were always pretty easy if you had done the required readings. There are two papers and two tests. She is also very understanding and will give you extensions on papers if you need one
Kelly is phenomenal. We only had two projects and they were canva powerpoints, not even essays. She is very sweet and a relatively easy grader, but DO NOT USE AI!
I had Kelly for FYS. She was really kind and cared about how you were doing in her class. If you need extensions, she gives them to you with adequate notice. Some of her grading on essays was unclear, and I felt she would unnecessarily dock points, but overall she was a good professor and the class was easy.
She is a good professor. If you do the work in her class and participate...you'll be fine. She's super understanding about deadline extensions and generally gives good feedback on assignments.
She truly cares and wants her students to succeed. She provides extensions and extra office hours for projects. I did not want to take another English class but this was not bad at all. We did have something to read before every class with a small quiz right when we got to class for attendance. Lectures got very repetitive.
Professor Sultzbach is one of the most passionate professors I have had, and she gives really good. I could write a very nice elaboration on why you should take her classes, but instead I'll just mention I'm already enrolled in another one of her courses, which states my point.
