Great Prof!
Thanks for the c-! Easy marker my ass.
From an A on THREE assignments to a B- on the MOST BRUTAL final EVER?! PLEASE, what a joke. I liked the class, but marking was all over the place.
Learned Alot, gets message across and lectures always interactive.
Kelly was awesome for HR. Assignments were easy, final was easier! Cool, down-to-earth prof! Highly recommend him!
Kelly is an amazing prof who is very down to earth and interacts with students. He keeps you engaged. His marking is fair - show up, do the quality work and you will get a good grade!
awesome prof he is very funny and even if the material is dry you want to go to class because of him. He has gotten harder at marking though.
Kelly is an awesome teacher, i would recommend him to anyone. His teaching method is very clear, and out of all the teachers i have had, Kelly is one of my favourites. He is defitely one of the most helpful teachers i have ever had, and i really enjoy taking classes with him.
Kelly is such an awesome teacher. He does not use his education to mkae his students feel any lesser than him. He makes his class fun, and talks as if he were 20 years old again =) Take a class with him if you get the chance!
Kelly is an awesome teacher. His lectures are fun and provides a lot of knowledge
I definitely recommend Kelly, he is a great prof. He is interesting to listen to and has many entertaining Stories.I had him for both interviewing and selected issues and would take any other class that he teaches.
Kelly is a great prof. The class was a lot of fun and he has a lot of experience and good stories to tell. He also seems to know just about everyone in the industry. He is very helpful and approachable and jokes around as well, which is a plus. I would definitely take another class with him again. Low to Med. on textbook use.
Kelly is the best!!!! His lectures are more like discussions which are so funny and interesting! He is an awesome and fair teacher and i would recommend everyone to take his class.
Awesome prof! Has great stories and is a very easy marker. You will WANT to go to his class and not skip
Such a fun teacher. He engages you the entire time and gets rid of any reservations you had about the class by totally putting you at ease. He clearly lays out all expectations and marks tests and essays fairly being sure to provide an explanation for his assessment. I looked forward to going to this class every week. Actively seek out this prof.
His midterm and final were literally right out of the textbook so they were both ridiculously easy. I'm pretty sure I learned more about his life and watched more youtube videos than I did learning anything of importance, but Kelly is a solid guy regardless. RECCOMMEND!!
Such a cool prof. Down to earth, helpful, really approachable and knows his stuff. Exams are straightforward, pretty much a given if you've been to class and done the work. Search out this prof, he is phenomenal.
Kelly is amazing - you will not regret taking a course with him. He rarely lectures from powerpoints, instead he tells stories with colorful language so you'll remember. He is funny, engaging, straight forward in his marking and his expectations. Show up and you'll do very well.
Kelly is awesome!Greatest class I think I have ever had. He tells you exactly what is going to be on both tests so you should do good. He rarely using power point but instead tells tons of relevant and funny stories. Only complaint with this class is he took over halfway through so the expectations on our essay was a little confusing.
He has some good stories, but the material covered in the class was boring. He tells you every single question that will be on the exam.. How about a challenge? Not in this class.
Amazing prof... classes were interesting and his stories were funny. Told the class exactly what was going to be on the final exam, so easy marks there. Same with the final paper.
Kelly's experience in the criminal justice field, casual nature, and sense of humour culminates in excellent lectures and enjoyable classes. While some professors make you memorize a hundred different tidbits and statistics, Kelly boils the content down to what you must know. Don't skip class; his lectures are amazing.
Kelly seems to just be winging it all the time. He is way too scattered in class. Exams are so easy so everyone thinks he is great. I don't like it that class always ends so early every week. Forget trying to see him and emails are rarely answered. Prof just doesn't seem to care.
Geez Kelly, be more prepared and focused. He can wander off topic so easy and sometimes doesn't know the material. Good stories but really - stay on topic. Easy A because prof basecally gives you the exam questions before the test
Kelly often was not very ready to lecture. He relied alot on the slides and got distracted alot with stories from years go. The good thing is tht we always were done class early. Easy A
Best class ever.
Easiest CRJS option class
Kelly never seems to be ready for class. Glad he is bringing in guest lectures as they know what they are talking about. Kelly seems like he is just making stories up. not sure why he is teaching this class as he doesn't seem to be too knowledgeable and I don't know if he has even read the textbook. Easy A no matter how much work you put in.
Nothing in the lectures were relevant to the essay or the tests. Attendance is not necessary. He picked the groups for the group assignment. Textbook is a must. Gives everyone in the class pretty much the same grade. Cares about students.
Kellys lectures were very interesting, he brought in presenters from the justice field to talk to us. We were able to get a first hand perspective on some of the careers in law enforcement and current issues that LEO face. It is all up to you how much you want to engage yourself in the class. Kelly is always helpful truly cares about his students.
You need to have an open mind going into his class as he has a different teaching style from your standard lecture. Kelly gives you real world working knowledge that can help, when you actually get into your field of work. The public speakers relate to you on a personal level that give you insider knowledge you will not get anywhere else.
In this class Kelly gives you great knowledge on CPTED and its practices. Kelly is a great prof who always has the student's best interest in mind and tries to help you along the way at any cost. Tests are generally easy if you go to class and study, they are straight forward but will be difficult if you do not do the work or attend class.
Tough marker on assignments. Very specific style of writting expected. Boring classes. Way too hard for a second year option class. Decently straightforward tests.
This prof is a bit of a joke. His ramblings always seem to be about himself. The exams don't have anything to do with the lectures or the textbook. Kelly has a high opinion of himself - not too sure why. I would not recommend him and I will try and avoid at all costs
Kell is an amazing prof! He is very clear in what is expected of students and is always willing to help if you are unsure on certain topics. Would definitely recommend this prof!
Kelly is way too easy. Everyone gets an A so good students don't get the reward for their work.
Thanks so much for being such an amazing prof you really made the class awesome
Kelly is okay but doesn't always seem too prepared. Exams and assignments are really easy. He said the class average was A. Good GPA boost for some! This might explain why so many of the reviews say he is "amazing" and "awesome" - Kelly uses there word alot also, hmmm.
Kelly is an amazing prof who is there for you anytime you need him - whether you are in a current class of his or not. His lectures are hilarious and he always relates the lecture material back to his stories. Makes things easy to understand and follow. He also ensures you have all relevant material and are able to apply it to other aspects of life
Kelly is an incredible professor and human being. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and his teaching style actually helps you remember the course material. You will still remember the material even after you're done the class. I highly recommend him, take him if you can!
Tests and assignments are easy, but while Kelly is very funny, sometimes he can be a bit moody. Gets upset if he finds out you started an assignment last minute, and isn't very accessible. Won't bump you up even 0.5% to next letter grade. Got sick during end of semester so that maybe impacted his performance. Overall easy A and a great guy.
Kelly is hands down the best prof! He is so approachable and funny! He makes the class super fun and easy. He will tell you exactly what is on the exams and grades papers really easy. Easy A and you'll have fun in this class
I loved being in Dr. Kelly's class, he's so easy to talk to and ask any questions. His exams are a bit long but he really helps you review for the exam with a prep session! His classes are fun and I'm glad he gets the critical paper assignment out of the way in the beginning of the semester! I'm glad I get to have him as a prof next semester :)
Kelly is a real gem. Greatest prof you will ever have. Put an effort in and you will do great.
Kelly is pretty good, his lectures are a lot of him ranting but it's interesting and funny.
Kelly is an interesting professor. He is hilarious all of the time, and as a result his lectures can't be taken serious. So, initially, I thought that he was an easy grader, however, he marked our papers so harsh. Also, Kelly contradicts himself, which was super frustrating. However, he is willing to help a student who asks for help.
Take a class with Kelly if you get the chance. He is a caring and funny guy who never fails his lectures interesting. He is very clear about his expectations for assignments and gives examples of questions that will be on the midterm and final beforehand. I hope to have a class with him again.
He switched the midterm on my class on the day of the midterm. He didn't care that we were taking other courses. Didn't treat my class with any respect and talked bad about my class to other classes. I wouldn't take his class again.
Awesome guy, amazing class!
Great guy, great stories, does not teach. Will get so sidetracked that he is behind on his lectures. When he is on topic, don't expect to stay on topic for long. Does not offer a lot of thoughts that build upon the textbooks info. Basically will judge what the textbook has to say and then give his opinion on it. Great guy though
Dr. Sundberg is quite the character! Be prepared to read the textbook and for him to go off topic during lectures while still having great conversations. He is very witty and overall an amazing professor. The only negative I have is he's a tough grader when it comes to first-year papers as well the only exam is the final. He has made online fun!
I am a first year college student. I enjoyed his feedback on the papers, in highschool I was always confused on what a teacher wanted but Kelly made it clear and was fair. However, there were 2 assignments, no quizzes, and a final with 175 Qs in 2hrs (120 mins, plus an extra 10mins he gave for website errors). I was not very happy about this final.
Made it seem like he's understanding and helpful, when in reality he is nothing of the sort and very difficult. He graded my papers way too hard all while being very vague and not specific with what he wants. Really discouraged me. He never helps out, ignored my emails, didn't show up to our meeting. 175 questions on our final with 2hours only...
Kelly was a nice guy but not a great prof. I found that he was lazy with the feedback and overall teaching. He assigned two essays and a final (175q in 120m). His lectures were vague and didnt go into much detail. He HEAVLY relies on us to read the textbook to learn the course. His final wasnt as bad as I thought but definitely had to work for it
I have no idea what the hell changed with Kelly, but he is not the prof that I know and love from 2nd year. The comments on his papers are rude, lazy, and extremely unhelpful. He doesn't set out clear guidelines for assignments at all, and his lectures quickly turn into rants about academic misconduct and cancel culture - its exhausting.
Kelly's lectures are basically useless since he doesn't talk about anything related to the textbook or assignments. His expectation of the assignments is unclear. Exams are hard that he wants you to memorize the entire textbook and other articles.
Dr. Sundberg is easily the best professor I have had yet. He is well connected and very willing to help students reach their goals. I imagine however, if you arent willing to do the work you will not share this experience.
Mr Sundberg is an outstanding teacher with immense knowledge. I always thought his lectures were engaging and informative and looked forward to attending his class. He always gives feedback on papers and will sit with you to help you improve. The textbook was also genuinely interesting to read, 10/10 recommend him as a prof you won't regret it!
Kelly is a fantastic prof; he makes me grateful that I am in the criminal justice program when teaching. He cares about his students. He gives good feedback on essays and makes sure to meet with his students to do best as possible. I hope I can take another class with him in future years.
Highly recommend taking him as a prof as a first-year, as he will help you improve your paper by giving clear, effective advice for you to succeed. His lectures are hilarious, but recommend having him in person. He is always available and willing to help his students improve, and even tells students after classes to contact him if help is needed!
Lots of homework and reading weekly but awesome lectures with many guest speakers. Love his style of teaching and his tests are not too bad as long as you read the book.
This course was extremely understimulating. The textbook had no application to criminal justice, lectures were long and unorganized, assignment guidelines were unclear. Kelly is a nice guy but I was really disappointed with how this course was approached.
Kelly is very helpful when approached and goes above and beyond for his students. Classes were more like conversations, rather than being useful, but the textbook had everything anyways. The final was hard (167 Qs) but his expectations were super clear for all assessments. I would take him again and think he is a good resource for CRJS students.
Kelly is funny and engaging in his lectures. But, the assignments were super vague. They're more about writing style than content. Final exam was 167 questions in 2 hours and all based on the textbook, so read it.
Dr. Sundberg has a good sense of humor but it's a bit over the top, it's a bit distracting from the course content. His final exam and assignments were fair, he's an easy marker. Lectures were not always relevant and he tended to cut class early, He was also very disorganized and skipped a few lectures
He's a great guy and makes lectures entertaining. However, we've had maybe 3 in-person lectures this entire semester, while all the others have been online and shortened by about 2 hours or canceled entirely. We're nearing the middle/end of the semester and I feel like I know absolutely none of the content. You have to teach yourself.
He is definitely quite the character. Be prepared to read the textbook and for him to go off-topic during lectures while still having great conversations. He is very witty and overall an amazing professor. He was a pretty easy grader and gave decent feedback, unlike some other profs. I actually enjoyed his lectures, for the most part.
This semester Dr. Sundberg was away for most of the course but when we had lectures he reminded me why I wanted to be in this program. Textbook is fairly easy and interesting to read, besides that only two written assignments + the final. If you are willing to put in the work, you'll get an easy A or even A+. If not, you'll still get B and higher.
Kelly is a gem of a professor! His lectures tend to get off track but they're interesting and easy to sit through. He's pretty clear about paper expectations and gives you good feedback. He cares about his students and truly wants everyone to succeed. Purchasing and reading the textbook is very important for this class!
Kelly is a great professor he cares for his students. the class is lecture heavy but he makes it very interesting. he has weekly online quizzes that engage you and allow you to stay on top of things. you do have to take the initiative to learn in this class but I find this to be a great thing for me as first year.
Kelly is amazing. He gave out only two papers throughout the semester, which unfortunately means his final is heavily weighted. He is very open to meeting with you outside of class time and, for me personally, was very accommodating with my struggle with writing. He tends to ramble during lectures but always somehow turns it back to being on topic.
Kelly was a great professor. You must complete weekly online quizzes on the Revel textbook which was easy. He gives great feedback for the two assignments you need to write. The final was easy because he helped notify what would be on there. I noticed he often sidetracks during lectures but overall he is a nice guy.
Great professor with lots of knowledge from throughout his career. He often goes on tangents, but they can be interesting, even if they sometimes don't pertain to the topic being discussed. Only two writing assignments, a final, and small comprehension quizzes after each chapter in the online textbook. Put in the work and you'll do great.
One of the worst professors I have had at mru please drop the class if you have him. He has heavy lectures. Exams are not written well.
Good prof but his lectures were not content based and he often went on many tangents, got political VERY often. Just two assignments so final exam was very heavy but if you read the textbook and powerpoints you will do fine. Lots of small quizzes on Revel.
Yelled at our class, but can be helpful if you reach out to him.
Okay prof, often went on rants more then teaching. Could go an entire class without getting through one slide. Lectures are just boring and hard to sit through because of the useless rants. Graded on 2 papers, a final and short quizzes based on the textbook. He's an okay grader, you could get an easy A if you take your time on the papers.
Kelly is honestly one of the best profs I've had so far! Although his lectures are long, it is so interesting to hear about his stories from his jobs and he really gets his students excited for those interested in pursuing law/law enforcement. He doesnt teach right out of the textbooks, so he expects you to have read it on your own time.
Kelly can help when you set meets, and he has lots of experience in the justice system; but professor-wise he's inadequate. Hard introduction to course due to long tangents, no examples, lack of feedback, & never finishes slides. He can be discouraging to the class & makes me feel anxious. He should polish teaching skills & be kinder to students.
Very unorganized. He needs to work on being more timely with his lectures because his rants go on longer than they should. But, he is very passionate in what he does and it shows. He is just not good at being a teacher. I know more about his life than the justice system because he only talks about himself. Interesting, but not very helpful.
He is funny but he is a very big yapper. His lectures consist of him yapping stories and not a lot of lecture time. If you want to learn you have to read the book because 4 out of 5 times he will not go over it on class. He's also a very though grader and doesn't allow late assignments
He's actually really nice and you can tell he just loves his career. I would love to take him again!!
Scary at first but really nice, and especially when you reach out. Always there to give you extra help. If you ask for his help you'll do amazing in his class, but he doesn't go over the textbook, but it will be on the final exam so read it, and there was no midterm for this class.
he yapped a lot but he got things done
Let me start by saying I understand why people on here aren't so fond of Kelly. I personally had a good experience with Kelly overall, he does go on long rants especially about social media but they can be funny. Didn't really get much insight from lectures you could just read the textbook.
Kelly is lowkey a little crazy but in the best way possible. Super funny guy, always gives paper extensions, but super reading heavy. He gets a bad rep for being kind of controversial but I think it just means you're a snowflake. Great dude
As many others have said, he can be very disorganized at times but that is what made the class fun for me. Grades are made up of 1 essay, 2 easy exams and a group project. There was a textbook but no point in reading it. Overall, a funny guy and you can tell he cares. Just be prepared to show up to class not knowing what you will be doing some days
Great professor. Made the lectures engaging and worth coming to an 8:30 am class. Whole class participated, and I am taking another course of his cause I enjoyed it so much
Kelly is a great guy. his lectures are interesting but long and sometimes repetitive. However, it was a great class with many funny stories. If you pay attention to the class and read the textbook you will do great.
Assignments: 4 In class assignment (5% each), Op-Ed project (20%), Midterm (25%), Final (35%) He is very entertaining to listen to but doesn't really stick to the slides provided. Pretty easy class with easyish assignments and tests. Just pay attention to the topics he likes because writing on those WILL get you a higher grade!
Kelly is one of the most underrated professors! He makes classes very engaging and interesting, he does go off lectures quite a bit but it ends up tying in what the lecture is about. He gives amazing and very detailed feedback in compared to profs who give you very little vague feedback
Kelly was unreal. His lectures were super engaging and easy to understand as long as you read your textbook. That thing is literally your bible and the lectures will do you no favours without reading it. Kelly made it easy to understand and connected themes and topics to relevant and conventional topics that engaged the class. Totally worth it.
He's now my favorite prof; he's hilarious and makes 3-hour lectures go by so fast. Content can be hard, but if you put work into studying, you can get great grades.
