Very knowledgeable teacher but extremely hard homework and tests. Curves tests and final class grades. Don't fall behind in material. Lectures really don't help with the homework, he wants you to have to "think" really hard to figure anything out. Calls on people a lot in class. If you truly like investments you will like his class.

Very challenging class and Kelly is aware of this. Test scores are typically in the mid to lower D range. However, at the end of the semester he will curve the class so that the average GPA is approximately a 3.2. Overall, very effective teacher but if you are only here to fulfill a requirement you should re-think taking this class from Kelly.

Super nice guy! Draws on his power point slides while lecturing which some might find to be distracting, but he does it to highlight key points. That being said, it is a hard class.

I am a finance major and this professor is terrible. His HW, projects and quizzes are easy but are only 40% of the grade. His exams are impossible and are a major part. He does not curve this class but he does other classes. The TA's are terrible and cannot grade and are harsh. Check your exams b/c they take off excessive points.

Go to class, your attendance is these little quizzes that he tells you the answer to. As for difficulty, I have mixed feelings. I did pretty bad on the final, but for the other two, the TA sessions prepared you very well for them. Maybe ask more questions on what's on the final? Also, make a quizlet of all the homeworks, trust me.

Kelly Welch is a great professor. His style is a bit different as he is talking one-on-one with someone throughout the class and teaches through conversation. Look at the EXAMS ON CANVAS. Almost no complaints, except no grades on Canvas. He went to Oxford and UChicago. I wish I could say more, please take his class. There is a textbook I didn't use

This class takes more effort than other business reqs. On par with acct 200/201. Lectures are done by cold calling on people, everyone will get called once. Once you get used to it it's somewhat entertaining though. He is knowledgeable about finance and always explains concepts in depth. Tests are extremely similar to the mock exams.

Not engaging at all, unless he calls on you. Slides are filled with information, however the way he drones on makes it hard to learn and is so forgettable. While he does give practice exams, he might very well change a 15–20-point question to be phrased in an entirely different way when taking the actual exam.

Kelly is a nice guy and he knows his stuff. I am not a math person by any means but I managed this class very easily. Do the practice exams and use the "sample exam questions" at the end of each chapter on canvas to study for multiple choice questions.

This dude is horrible. Lectures are incredibly dense and impossible to take notes on rambles about random stuff. Exams 1 and 2 are similar to the sample exams. The final is incredibly hard. Smart dude bad teacher.

I learned a lot in Kelly's class, but it is definitely tough. Similar structure to ACCT 200/201, lecture heavy with homework assignments and difficult exams. Go to the TA extra help sessions for extra credit and test prep. If you don't love Finance it'll be tough but very manageable class all in all

Not engaging at all, rambles. While he does give practice exams but when the MCQ are worth more than the actual formula problems its hard to take the class seriously when learning the formulas aren't the most important piece. Good guy, so so teacher. Make sure to go to TA help hours, had to self teach a lot which wasn't hard just annoying.

Kelly tends to ramble sometimes but is overall a good lecturer. He also "cold calls", but it's extremely low pressure. The exams are somewhat difficult, but predictable: do practice problems at the end of each chapter because he pulls MCQs directly from them. For 311, the exams are the same but we have calculation quizzes which aren't that hard.

Screwed myself by not making up the attendance points with excused absences, I believe that his policy on excused absences are stupid (you have to hand write 9 pages per class missed), also MCQs are a large portion of exams, but TBH if you should take online over the summer, because both of the Fin 310 teachers suck, but he's the better one.

His class isn't super easy, but it just takes effort. If you want an A just study the practice exam questions in each module, study the official practice exams he gives out, and go to class. The cold calling is intimidating at first but the questions he asks are relatively simple.

Kelly's class kept me attentive. He's a stand-up guy and a solid teacher. All you need to know is this: Go to lecture and pay attention. He gives out FREE quizzes every other(ish) class. Study every chapter's multiple choice on Canvas, big portion of the exams. Go to review sessions, for your own sake. They help a lot AND you get extra credit.

Go to lecture for attendance points and do the extra credit. Use the sample exam questions under each module to help prepare for exams, as well as using the practice exam of course. Kelly is a nice guy and his class is not difficult if you put in a decent amount of effort. I suck at math and ended with an A. If I can do it, you can too. Good luck!
