spends the whole classtime writing notes on the board that you have to copy word for word. Tests are really hard but at least you don't have to buy a book since class is all lecture
Easy to pass, just be there for the review! He is funny...LOTS of notes!
Arrogant teacher, he thinks he is always right, has a good sense of humor, dont bother asking a question because he makes you feel stupid.Thinks people understand everything he is explaining, so he rushes and you just get lost.
He is a funny teacher, great sense of humor...it is not hard to pass and get a "B". A litle harder to get an "A", particulatlly in his lab class, no way to get an "A" unless you really know a lot of geography.
EASY!!!! Very funny!! He cracks jokes about everything. He does give a lot of notes. The class before the tests he reads questions from the tests to quiz class. I only took notes on those days. Easy A.
Gives copious amount of hints for tests, which makes passing the course not too difficult, but is rather arrogant and hard to approach.
Very funny guy. Knows his stuff and even if he's wrong, he wont' admit it!! All lecture, so be ready to take lots of notes. He GIVES the answers to the test during review, so very easy to make a B, will have to work for an A. I would recommend him.
this teacher is arrogant, he likes to appear smarter than everyone and will belittle you in front of the whole class. All lecture, pain in the hand, don't buy the book, you don't use it. take other teacher if you can this one is no good
He honestly gives you the answers to the test during the review- just write fast. And you get to drop a test.
DONT BUY THE BOOK, bring a tape recorder for review days, he gives 90% of the questions on the test and drops a test.

Interesting teacher, lots worldly experience. The lab is demanding and tedious. Recomend credit no credit option if you can, but definetly possible to get A with built in extra credit.
gives test answers on review day. No need for a book if you attend class. Drops a test.
HE'S PRETTY EASY. VERY SCARCASTIC. APPEARS LIKE AN @$$ THE 1ST DAY BUT ISNT. HE GIVES A LOT OF NOTES. TESTS AND EXAMS ARE PRETTY EASY IF YOU STUDY. HE DOES GIVE YOU A REVIEW THE DAY BEFORE THE TEST AND MOST OF WHICH DO APPEAR ON THE TEST.
Ken could be nice, but he prefers to be gang bang. Because he enjos to argue and make miserable with students, he makes his own rules and chose not to follow the general rules of collefe. I wonder what college administrator will say about that. 24/24 abse
took the summer class..fairly sarcastic yet hilarious. dont talk in class. take notes. bring a tape recorder & take notes b4 each test..study that and u will get an A..i did
Berger can be mean (DO NOT leave your cell on that seems to be the thing that riles him !), but he seems to be just putting on a show. Hes Deliberately non "PC", can be very funny at times. Go to class, take notes (especially on review day),
SUper nice guy. Though puts up a mean front in begining. go to class, pay attention and BE THERE FOR REVIEW DAY! You will do great. He is very educated and super funny, loves teaching. You give him respect and he will respect you in return.
Do. not be late. Do not allow your cell phone to ring. Show him respect and he will show you the same. Take notes well and be sure to bring a tape recorder on review day. He gives you all the answers to the test during the review.
Ken is probably the best teacher I've had so far. He's a bit rough around the edges, but he does this to weed out the students that really shouldn't be there. He doesn't want to waste their time! Respect him and he'll respect you! Record on review day!
Puts on a hard face, but give him a week or so to warm up to you. Don't judge him from the first day of class. Don't have to buy book if you go to lecture. Take good notes, study for the test and go to review day. Overall, good guy and good class. Smartest professor I've met so far.
first couple weeks he seems like a hard teacher....it's all a front! he is actually a very easy teacher and explains everything well...very cool, funny too....key to passing is taking notes and show up for the review before the test and tape record it...easy A I recommend him to everyone
Hands down, the easiest 'A' I've ever gotten. Berger comes off as a jerk at first, but he's actually pretty funny. Lectures are pretty interesting and he will go over every single question on the exam the day prior. If you're easily offended, steer clear, he's not afraid to call someone stupid.
The material covered is interesting. Very clear on topics, and the teacher knows A LOT. But this guy is the biggest as*h*** I've ever taken. He yells at his students and is rude. You will be taking LOTS of notes!! His quizzes are a waste of time; but gives test reviews with Q&As, which helps!
Goes over every question on the test the day before and will not be afraid to embarrass someone if they ****him off in some way... oh and one other thing... make sure to turn off your cell phones before he comes to class or else you won't want to live to see what he does to his students for that.
Great teacher if you follow his rules. No cell phones. take a recorder to the review class, he gives all the answers on review day. The map tests are the most important. He will not drop any map tests grades only the lowest of the regular tests will he drop. If you can't pass this class you need to.
Very smart guy who makes class interesting with his real life experience and examples. Tests and expectations are very clear and he reviews in depth the day before the test. Great class that I definetley recommend. Funny guy.
He's not super easy...but don't worry about failing his class unless you're a total idiot. He really knows what he's talking about, keeps you awake with a bombardment of notes, is un-P.C. but it's refreshing in a world terrified to crack a tasteless joke.
Great teacher! Makes everything easy to understand and breaks up the class with real life experiences he's had. Well versed in all areas of science and knows how to get through to students. MAKE SURE YOUR CELL PHONE IS OFF!!!!
He is overtly clear on everything! He gives you the answers to the upcoming test. Not everyone will like his personality; he is from New York, so watch out! If you can handle is bold and sometimes jeering comments, go for it.
this is a easy prof! wish i had more like him! his review is him reading the test questions to the class and you're allowed to bring in voice recorders! he is from new york so you have that funky "everyone is an idiot" personality, but i didn't need to buy the book! all you have to do is study the maps and turn off you cell phone and write notes!
This class is comedy! The guy's got this real thick NY accent and he does these comical sketches to go along with some of the lecture material. Just laugh! You know it's funny! He is only tough for the first two weeks to get people who aren't serious about his class to drop it. All you have to do is be on time and turn off your freakin' cell phone!
His tests are easy because he gives the answers during a review, a day before the test. You do not have to read the book because all you do is show up for class and then tape record his review days. It ii so easy if you want a good grade in geograghy.
Love him! Poor guy had to fill in for my original geo teacher, and he did a great job! He writes lots of clear notes and tells funny relevant stories to go along with the lectures. Excellent teacher, like someone else said, I wish I had more like him! <3
Excellent lectures, very clear about what is expected, gives answers and hints for exams in advance (PAY ATTENTION!). Tells you exactly what he thinks, and admits what he doesn't know. Some students think he is rude, I think he just tells it like it is. Leave your cell phone at home. Respect him and he will respect you. Great teacher!
This guy is hilarious!! I love this guy. Clear notes and gives all the answers prior to the exam. I don't understand why ppl see him as a bad person, a lot of the stuff he says are just jokes. He's like a stand-up comedian. He makes Cultural Geography a blast and easy to understand. I wish I have more teachers like him.
Quite possibly the best teacher that has ever taught on earth!! He can really make a boring lecture into an epic storytelling adventure. If you look up his name in a dictionary it would say: AMAZING!!!!
Easy class, i wouldnt say he's hilarious but does try his hardest to get you to laugh. A little like a woody allen film. Do yourself a favor and buy a tape recorder for his test reviews. Word for word what is on his test.
Man, This old professor is the most funniest and smartest guy ever on Earth. He also knows Fung Shui and a lot of stuff about politics, such as Chinese issues, etc. No map quizes, no homework, and also he tells all the answers prior to exam. So, get yoruself a tape recorder. Also, do extra credit = FUN/EDIBLE. BE SURE TO TURN CELL PHONE OFF!!!
Easy A, no homework, just 4 exams. drop lowest one. Extra Credit was fun = must do! Also, the E.C. is eating FOOD!!! So, better have an empty stomach to consume all the delicious/nasty stuff. Also, PLEASE TURN CELL OFF!!! DON'T, YOU'RE KICKED OUT OF CLASS!!! This prof gives a full review of the exam before day of exam and did I say he's FUNNY!!!
Very strict, but freakin' hilarious. He expects college level work from his students and will treat you like an idiot if he thinks you are one. Do the work, follow instructions, read directions and its pretty easy to pass. Extremely knowledgeable and will help you figure things out for yourself instead of giving you the answers. He's great!!
This guy is a character. Seriously, when you meet him you'd think he jumped out of a movie or seomthing! He has this stereotypical NewYork accent and he tells stories like he's doing a comedy sketch! Just laugh, you funny! This is the second time I had him and he gets another great reveiw! The tests are based from lectures so don't buy the book!
Definitly take this class, but...come on time for the first month. You will get dropped. He's intimidating at first, but has a great heart and makes lectures very interesting. I agree with comedian comment. Great class!
He can be a jerk, and he likes to embarrass his students. Be careful, if you do 1 thing wrong, he will call you out infront of everyone. He insults his students by calling them stupid. He can be funny at times, but he is rude.
Funny guy. Has no problems calling you out in front of the entire class, so make sure you are on time. The material is heavy but straightforward, and his exam reviews go over every single question on the exam. You will have to study, but do that and come on time, and you will pass.

His lab can be difficult. He is very anal about neatness. You cannot miss one class or you will be dropped. I wouldn't reccomend taking his lab. Mr Kruass is really nice.
Great teacher, I think this will more interesting throughout this semester.
He is a little nuts but the class is easy. He reads the whole test and gives you the answers as a review. He drops the lowest grade and the map quizzes are simple. You are allowed to miss 4 classes without getting points deducted. Just take notes during the review and you can pass. No book needed
Simple class. You get to drop your lowest test score. He actually reads the questions off of the test and you're allowed to bring in a recorder! Map quizzes are simple, and he is a pretty funny guy. You dont need a textbook, you just need to show up and take some notes and you'll do good. All in all..a pretty good class to take.
Didn't know if I was in a classroom or a concentration camp. He is very rude and has what some people call "Little man syndrome". We pay his salary so you think he would have a little more respect for students. Don't be a second late or he'll count that as an absence. Had to drop his class because I didn't want the added stress of him!

The class is not difficult if you are willing to do the work. He expects courtesy from his students & will give courtesy in return but only to those who give it to him, such as turning off your cell phone & being on time.
Berger is ENTERTAINING to say the least. He is a good teacher if you can get past him trying to intimidate his students. His bark is much bigger than his bite. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE, be on time and show up and you will get an A in this class. He also likes students that ask relevant questions and participate.
This class was awesome! Its an easy A. Dr. Berger is very intelligent and has some great stories to tell. He goes over every question on the test the day before the test. He gets a little annoyed with stupid questions. I hardly ever looked at the textbook- its a waste of money!
Only class I have taken that is written on the board. Makes all believe he is a hard ass, but he is not. I enjoyed his class and his humor. Is staten island. Inside joke when he reads this.
He can be scary, so if you don't like being humiliated in front of people you may not want to take this class. As for the class itself, pretty easy, you really DON'T need the book, and if you show up and study you'll do ok. He reads the questions to the test during the review, so show up on review day!
Dr. Berger tries to intimidate you in the first class, but it's all fluff. Overall, he's a passionate teacher who is very organized. Go to class, take notes, and study...you'll have no problem getting a good grade. Top notch professor.
He was not the hardass he tried to have you believe he is. Very educated and knowledgable about whatever he was talking about. First instructor I have had who puts his couse on the blackboard. He makes his classes interesting and fun and is there for you if you need any kind of help. ~(:>D)
He seems a little weird but he is nice once u get to know him better. Attendance is not mandatory, has an attendance sheet but if u miss too much he deducts points at the end. 4 tests & 4 map quizzes. You can drop the lowest test but not the map quizzes. Bring a tape recorder cuz the review helps a lot!
This class was pretty easy, as long as you were in class. He goes over the questions for the tests and you can record them, study the maps he gives you and the test questions and you should do well. Make sure not to be late or rude. He will respect you if you respect him. there are 4 tests with an optional final. He makes the class interesting.
The only choice in Geography teachers at Mesa! You will miss out if you don't take this professor! He made this class interesting and entertaining - he has a great sense of humor in addition to being brilliant. Don't miss out!!
This class is INSANE! He can be strict but is one of the most funniest professors! Has traveled/taught around the world. His personal stories, silly jokes and techniques for remembering terminology keeps the class moving. No outside reading assignments, no papers; just 4 tests and 4 map quizzes, lowest score dropped. I HIGHLY recommend Mr. Berger.
Berger is truly awesome!! Forget the fact that he knows everything about everything. The fact that I have never taken an easier class is what did it for me. No need for a textbook. I suggest you invest in a tape recorder so you can tape the exam reviews.Turn your cell phone OFF or he will humilate you "because you are an idiot". EASY A AWESOME PROF!
He is a very good teacher. He knows his stuff and enjoys teaching. He HATES cell phones in class so don't have it on. He is kinda funny sometimes he makes fun of you sometimes but in a good way. He was gr8 I slacked off thats why i got a c but if u put little bit of studying in you can pull it off. I would take his class again,Best geo teacher @ Me
Outstanding! Helpful etc.
Dr. Berger does everything he can to make this class easy. There are a lot of notes, but he gives a comprehensive study guide for tests and drops the lowest score. A great teacher.
Great Teacher! Best in Geography! Funny stories, and jokes. Easy going class if u pay atention and are intrested!
he really is a great teacher ... but you must be willing to work and learn I got an A in the class but pay attention on the review before the test and you will do fine
He's a ham! Absolutely entertaining. KNOWS what he teaches & teaches it well! Turn OFF the cell-phones, participate in Test Reviews & TAPE RECORD them for best results! If you can't get an A in this class, you're a putz. He's approachable & likes class participation. Do the map packets & study them well. TAKE NOTES, if you can keep up! ;P
Awesome teacher, He makes cultural geography a fun and exciting subject to learn. And has an awesome extra credit. He's fun and never boring. I will miss taking this class because of him.
Awsome teacher! Very entertaining, lots of jokes and fun facts. you will learn a lot in class and have fun at the same time. One of the best classes ever taken. Don't miss out.
He is funny as hell. There is no homework assigned for the class so it makes it that much easier. The main focus is on 4 tests, just study for them, and show up to class and you get an easy A.
amazing guy! he knows everything about everything! so smart and funny. if you are interested in learning take his class! if you just want to skate by get out of college. he isnt hard but he isnt easy, he is just right
this is the easiest class ever. he practically reads you the questions on his test and gives you all the maps to study. easiest A ever!
The love child of Danny DiVito and Billy Crystal incarnate. Period.
Awesome teacher- although this class only requires a few hours of studying before each test, I learned a lot from this class. He is clear and organized and funny. Def recommend
He really made me enjoy geography. I find myself applying random tid bits of information everyday. Although attendance isn't mandatory, his lectures are very very helpful. Better than reading the book. Plus the reviews before tests make everything cake.
This teacher was great it was a pretty easy class but you need to attend he reviews the questions for the test but you must be able to answer the questions because he relys on the class and if you don't know he stops the review. I cot an A and really enjoyed the class I defintely recommend him!
Outstanding class! Great teacher!
Berger is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He took a subject I hate and actually made it interesting. He jokes and plays pranks that make class fun and engaging. If you know NOTHING and have no interest in Geography, he is the man. Just show mutual respect like turning off your phone, not talking, etc.
Show up to class and take notes, study the night before the test, ZERO HOMEWORK EVER. Grade is all test scores and he drops the lowest one, Answers every question directly from test day before. Only rude if you are dumb. I Got A's on the first 3 tests, didn't have to attend the last quarter of class. Will explain *anything* you ask him. Good Guy.
AWESOME...AWESOME...AWESOME. If you want to really learn and have fun doing so, take his class!
THE BEST PROFESSOR YOU WILL EVER HAVE. You won't fall asleep... He is passionate, has stories relative to engrave teachings in your mind. He's right out there, he wants you to learn. Even goes over the full test before he gives it. Bring a recorder...You can't fail, unless youre an idiot!!!
Dr. Berger is the best professor you can ever have. He teaches with passion, know his stuff really well. He tests on 4 major exams and 4 small exams on maps. He reviews before the exams which makes it a piece of cake. Make sure you have a tape recorder for the reviews.
Best professor ever. I have taken all the GEOG classes he offers and have gotten A's in all. You have to be an IDIOT not to pass his course. In-fact,you should rethink college if you cannot pass his course. Just show up, take notes, study for exam, learn the map. Explains material thoroughly, invest in good tape recorder...HIGHLY recommend him.
Love Ken! Hilarious, passionate, makes the class fun & interesting. 4 exams, (drops the lowest) 4 map tests. He has a Fear Factor opp. to earn up to 20 pts. FYI yummy desserts tend to win. I didn't have to take the last exam or map test because I won FF. (now he knows who's rating him lol.) Will be taking his Phys.geog. course bc he's the best.
This man is wild. Speaks his mind. Hilarious and good at entertaining the class. No homework or mid-term/final. 4 exams/4 map quizzes. Highly recommend bringing recorder to test reviews and you'll pass the class!
He is hilarious and he knows his stuff. Don't be afraid to ask questions because even if he doesn't know the answer, he will go out of his way to find it. He loves what he does.
Prof. Berger is awesome. He tells you at the beginning semester what you have to do to pass his class and if you follow his advice, it should be no problem. His classes are always interesting and he always has a ton of great stories to share! No homework, which is nice. I highly recommend him! One of my favorite professors at Mesa, hands down.
Hilarious teacher! Very passionate; keeps things interesting! Don't really need to attend class because he goes over all the answers on test day before (just make sure you have a recorder). 4 map quizzes, just study those a lot or they hurt your grade. don't even need text book. highly recommended!
He is the best professor ever. He tests you on 4 major exams and 4 small map tests. He drops the lowest of the EXAMS, not the map test. ALSO, he reviews the entire exams before the test. And if you bring a recorder, you'll get an A in the class.
This guy is brilliant. He's got real world experience and really knows his stuff. It's also great because he doesn't take nonsense from anyone. !00% informative, 100% uncensored. If you aren't a jerk, take this class.
Berger is an amazing teacher. He gives you all the tools to do great in the class, then it's up to you to use them or not. I love him because he doesn't take bull**** from anyone. He is extremely nice and helpful. 4 tests (drops the lowest) and 4 map quizzes. Easy class if you study, and very interesting too!
Gives you all the Qs and As that will be on the test. record this! its important and spend a good amount of time memorizing the maps because the map quizzes will add up in the end. he can be crude and has a strong "I could care less about you" attitude. and will call you stupid to make himself feel better.
He definitely doesn't take smack from other people. Once you open your mouth, you're pretty much done for. But other than that, he's a very good teacher to learn from. Definitely knows what he's talking about and can be caring and helpful at all times (if you ask the right questions). Good luck to those who take him! :P
just keep your cell off and dont give lip. he gives you the test answers. just show up and study your notes. hes a great teacher.
The professor was cool in the beginning. But as the semester continues he screams at the whole class. Tell us to shut up. Doesn't listen to you or care. He Will call you stupid. And he will tell the whole class that we should drop his class and that we will never amount to anything. I have it all on recorder.
Dr. Berger tells it like it is. If you can't handle the truth, you shouldn't be in college. If you can't get an A in his class, then you are stupid! & he's correct in saying it!
Teacher was pretty easy. He basically gave you all of the answers at the review and map quizzes were super easy. BUT! he said for next semester, he isn't doing ANY reviews. The reviews are the only thing I payed attention to. Hes also not dropping the lowest exam score. SO, w/o the reviews, and dropping the low exam, i would probably barely pass.
It's because of students like the previous poster that Dr. Berger tightened up his grading! The poster doesn't even know that there is no such course as GEOG 100. It's either 101 or 102 or 104. Also, he can't even spell paid correctly. Students like him ruin it for all of us. Dr. Berger is an excellent instructor & really knows his stuff.
Really cool guy. Has achieved many rad/ random things in his life and will give you really interesting knowledge to share with people. I definitely enjoyed going to his class.
A no nonsense instructor who cares if you care! Wear earplugs if you do not like his truth and harsh expressions! He will NOT baby you nor tolerate any childish behaviors such as texting in class! HELLO-You are now in college so act your age and respect those who are seeking and attaining an education. He provides you with all the (GIFT's) tools
Continued from first post: He provides you with all the (GIFT's) tools needed to learn and to pass the class. You get back what you put in. No effort, no passing grade vs. effort, passing! Very simple childish children who want to be treated like an adult, here is your chance! HA!
He provides you with all the (GIFT's) tools needed to learn and to pass the class. You get back what you put in. No effort, no passing grade vs. effort, passing! Very simple childish children who want to be treated like an adult, here is your chance! HA!
This Dr. makes class fly by! Very intertaining and you learn a lot being in his class. He sounds like a salor and stresses his New York background. He demands RESPECT and he will give RESPECT back. WARNING: IF YOU DISRESPECT HIM, WATCH OUT, YOU WILL FEEL VERY SMALL WHEN YOU LEAVE CLASS!Yes,I would take this Dr.'s class again as I learned a lot!
Definitely a no non-sense teacher. Gets his point across in an entertaining way. Don't attempt this class if you plan on being babied, because he will not put up with that, and he'll let you know, too! I loved this class, I enrolled in his other class for next semester! Put in the work, he'll help you out!
Very straight-up teaching style. He doesn't try to trip you up and everything he says on the first day is true. There is work involved, but you can get an A. He did appear to snap at some people, but we're adults and they probably deserved it. Good class, good instructor. Test dates are announced months in advance; returns tests by next class.
Great teacher! I have to say though, this class is not easy. I'm basically an "A" student but studying double time in this class is just keeping me at a "B". He's a no B/S kind of guy so if you're just coming out of H/S and still need your fanny wiped... get out now because he's not going to coddle anyone!
Four regular exams, Four map exams. He used to review and allow students to tape the exams, but he doesn't do that anymore. I really enjoyed his class. Also, he is a very funny guy. He rapped for us one day and I thought that was really cool. Act like an adult, he will respect you, if you act like a child, he will embarrase you.
he is not that bad, and i will admit the stuff you have to study in those study guides are intense so STUDY well ahead of time. He takes no crap from anybody, and if you try to cheat... oh boy you are DONE! he is a good guy helped me out and i sat in the front of the class. alot of the stuff he has to say is really interesting, and it is not boring
Great teacher!! Lectures are very helpful but you will need to read the book. He is a no nonsense kind of teacher. If you want an easy A I wouldn't recommend this class but if you are willing to work a little then you will be fine. I loved this class but then again I love physical science.
Hilarious teacher with his comfortability to joke with the students. He is serious about what he teachers and when he does write on the board along with the lecture, everything is crystal clear. He mostly lectures instead of reading the book to us, so as long as you study your "good" notes, you'll do well on the test.
Expect to have 4 quizzes and 4 map tests. He is straightforward with the coursework, and he offers study guides for each quiz. The tests average 100+ questions. The maps cover countries and large landmasses. If you read the book and study his guides, you'll get an A. His lectures are funny, but useless.
Great teacher and funny. didn't use the book much. I recommend him alot.
His tests are very straightforward, there are 4 test and 4 map quizes. You get a study guide and as long as you read and study the handouts and the map, its not hard to pass. I also really enjoy his teaching style. I recommend him. Cultural Geography is not as boring as it sounds!!
His classes are entertaining for the most part but his quizzes are hard. He may ask the same question 5 times but word it weird and differently and you probably wont be able to recognize it! He does a review were you write down quickly what might be on the quiz but there will be way more! If you want an easy grade don't take him.You wil regret it!
He was very thurough with what he taught, he taught dicrectly from the handouts he had online.Towards the end of the course it was a little random though. To do well on the test study study study and study some more those handouts. The map quiz will be easy if you study 3 places a day like he suggested otherwise you will be skrewd
his class can be easy if you attend class, print out slides ahead of times and make notes next to them. you MUST put hours aside to study those printouts for exams. textbk is not necessary if you can take good notes, otherwise google what you missed. He is very entertaining and makes the time fly by.
He tells you like how it is, Straight up! STUDY STUDY STUDY! ESPECIALLY those handouts. He tells you how to pass his class pretty much! Put some time into this class and you should pass no problem!
Dr Berger is great because most of his career has been as a scientist working in the field. He has a lot of real world knowledge & experience. The tests were in depth, w/ the same ?'s asked multiple times in diff ways, so study handouts. I got A's on most exams so he didn't make me take the final since I already had an A, so I liked him! Great prof
First Off he is a New Yorker, and as a New Yorker he refuses to speak to students in a Politically correct , PC, way.His class is way easy if you attend the class and pay attention. He lets you record his lectures as long as you ask him before hand. He does say it like it is. Can't handle the truth then don't take his class.
Turn your phone off before you go to class!!! He is not afraid to speak his mind and he is a big joker. The only reason why I passed this class was because of his reviews of the test he goes over the exact quetions on the test so make sure you show up on the review days. This guy is incredibly smart his sense of humor made this class worth taking.
Older guy from NY. Its his way or the highway mentality. Over complicates his test with way too many questions and rants offtopic a lot in class about his personal stories. Also says 'and that' after everything he says which gets old quick.
I expected him to be helpful and interesting. Although some of his stories are interesting, it is not worth taking the class. He is extremely rude and has very very little empathy or kindness;verbally abusive. He is also UNFAIR. I got one bad test grade and the rest A's and recieved a B even though he exempted students with an A from the final.
First off, he is not for the faint of heart. He works really hard to make sure that his World knowledge comes across to the students but for some they will always be to dense for anything to seep-in. You have to memorize all map. He gives you the review questions before every test, you must write quickly. All in All, Knowledgeable and Great Teacher
Berger is a little rough around the edges, but he is definitely one of the better teachers at Mesa. His class is nice and easy, he makes lectures entertaining and he pretty much gives you every exam question. Definitely would recommend this class!
I wasn't looking forward to a geography class, but this professor changed my attitude. Don't be afraid to approach him; he is very helpful, incredibly knowledgeable and clear. You can skip the textbook, pay attention in class, study the maps, and don't miss the reviews for a fun A in GEO 104. I'll probably get a B though...didn't study the maps.
He's a character, to say the least. This is a college level course. Go to class, show up early for reviews, memorize the maps, and it's impossible NOT to pass.
This teacher is an "in ya face" type of guy. He doesn't take squat from anybody. Expect him to toughen you up when he tells you straight out to be a better student. I wish I could have studied harder. When I tried answering a question he asked, my answers were too mediocre to keep up to his standards. He's a tough guy who been around places.
If you are the least bit offended by adult language, do not take this class. However, if you don't mind it, you'll find this class a hoot! He reviews everything before the test. Don't blow off the map tests. They are an easy 100 points. Rough around the edges but he knows his stuff. Recommended if you have a sense of humor!
Best Professor I've had at Mesa. If you are a lazy, rude, or sensitive person-Don't bother taking his class because he doesn't take crap from anybody. This is COLLEGE, be responsible for yourself and STUDY. HE gives you all the notes and reviews everything that is going to be on the exams. If you fail his class you don't deserve to go to college.
Cons: Speaks fast and freely. He is FAIR, cares about grades, reviews before exams, ALL notes available at store(INCLUDING MAPS), reaches out to help, and shares his experiences as a GEOGRAPHER to keep the class interesting. 8 out of 10 students will like him. Sensitivity or not caring will not help you in this class.
Scared everyone the first day of class but eventually mellowed out. Berger is a very smart professor and knows his stuff. He literally gives you every answer you need to know for the test during the review. You'll definitely learn something from his class. I recommend taking him!
Awesome professor, easy A, text not needed if you get the note book. Reviews everything you need for test. Attendance not required, but his class is fun. Start studying your maps early, spelling counts. Don't be a wuss or ask stupid questions. This is college, study, toughen your skin or don't attend. Easiest class so far if you're not an idiot.
Berger is a badass, but straightforward. 4 main tests with 4 map tests. Tests are usually 100 questions and 25 questions on the map. If you actually study you can pass. I almost passed but it's a lot to cover in a month and a lot to remember. Try flash cards! EC when you ask/answer the right/intelligent questions (only 1 pt) He's cool but hard.
Professor Berger is AWESOME! He's short tempered but if you show some respect he give it right back. Super interesting class as well. You will probably learn more in this class than any other. Easy A, Test are super easy because well he goes through the whole thing on review day. Take him!
Berger is tough but he doesn't assign homework. Read and study the maps, pay attention on the review; you'll need it! This class wasn't easy for me but it was worth it
Kenneth is straightforward, tells you exactly what you need to do in order to get an A in his class. 1. Come to class 2. Study the packet he gives you 3. MEMORIZE the maps he gives you. You do not need the text book, I took my back the second day and received an A in the class. Learning to appreciate his teaching style and you'll do great!
Berger is a no BS professor. Despite this, he knows a great deal about geography and has amusing insights and stories. The class is extremely hard if you don't study. If you actually show up and study, though, it's quite easy.
Half the class drops after the first day because he scares them but he's not that bad. He likes to pick on people but he really knows his stuff and the way he lectures is really clear. The note packet you get is all you need just study that thing backwards and forwards. Know the maps, go to class, and don't piss him off.
Great guy, not a great teacher-but hes still VERY knowledgeable, experienced, interesting, humorous. Accidentally write Tierra DE Fuego instead of DEL and you get the whole thing wrong. A great teacher is flexible/ reasonable with his students rather than dismissive. Im close to an A but I had to self-teach & go thru unfortunate loads of memorizing
Mr. Berger is one the best professors I've had so far. He is very clear and direct of what he wants for each assignment. I like the way he teaches. He always says " If you don't care about your education, why should I?" I'm glad he is my professor for this class. He teaches you from his life experience which teaches us more than the book.
Hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. No BS type of professor. Lectures are entertaining and he throws in stories from his life experiences to make it interesting. His exams are cake if you are present for the review and study the maps. He doesn't baby students and says, "If you don't care about your education, why should I?" Exactly.
Berger is a great teacher and his class is super easy. He basically reads off the book w/ interesting side stories. He literally tells you all the answers in the review session. The key to passing? Memorization. There are only 4 exams. I only showed up on test and review days and got A's on the first 3 exams. B/c of that I'm exempted from the final
I don't know what to say accept he doesn't have a lot of active engagement with the students to test their knowledge of a subject adequately. A lot of people dropped out toward the end of the semester. Too much emphasis is placed on being proud to earn a perfect grade rather than to learn from your mistakes and keep persevering. Very depressing.
Ken is a no BS teacher. Straight shooter. Hawaiian shirts and Vietnam veteran's hat.. My kind of guy. Go to class, study for the maps and pay attention to the test reviews. Don't take things personally, Mr Berger can dish it out! Nevertheless, its a two way street. I never missed an opportunity to catch him slipping ;) I loved his classes
Take this class if you just want passing credit on your transcript and if you don't mind quickly forgetting his material. People praise him just cause he's not afraid to talk straight. But he can't teach for squat. He just forces his words down your throat without question. He's a know it all & condescending. But hey at least he's funny!
Literally tells you straight up how to pass his class the very first day. He is hilarious and definitely tells you how it is. Gives you all the material in a course packet. Tests are easy as long as you study, tells you all the questions a day before the test. Highly recommend! Makes the class interesting and has tons of interestingfunny stories!
Amazing!!!! Can't believe I had opportunity to crash this course! He is the bomb! Gives every question+answer before tests, which he doesn't have to do as he covers all material appropriately. Not a geog major, but i will be taking his cultural class next semester and am so excited! Very relateable person, interesting class, and learn fun facts!
His tests are hard because he gives you about 80 places to study but only 25 are on the test (spelling counts), plus 100 multiple choice questions. If you have the time to really study & know then it's a straight forward easy A otherwise studying is time consuming! He also uses a lot of profanity if that offends you & is very sarcastic, but funny
Very knowledgeable. People who complain about Berger's classes are likely just lazy. Memorize what he tells you to remember, attend the reviews, and STUDY THE MAPS and this class will be a walk in the park. Get ready to laugh when you get your first exams back (unless you didn't study, then get ready to feel really bad).
Berger was a great teacher and easy class. If you're great at memorizing, I highly recommend this class. There are 4 tests and before every test he literally gives you every question and answer that'll be on the test. Memorize that and the map and this is an easy A. I did so well on the first three tests that I didn't have to take the last one.
Talks a lot, but gives you everything you need to succeed. If your spelling is bad you won't do great. Easy class though.
He was a tough teacher. He is very clear about what he expects. It was a hard class, but if you don't slack then you will pass. STUDY THE MAPS. The maps are what saved my grade.
I thought this class was really easy. But maybe that's because I've always been pretty good at geography. Just highlight important things from your book and memorize the map. Easy. You already know what's on every test.
This is my second geography class I've had with Ken & he is the most down to earth teacher I've ever had. True he takes no BS & the 1st day of each semester he says "if you don't care about your education why should I". Easy class, no homework ever. Just study the reviews (don't miss these or you won't pass) & STUDY THE MAPS these save your grade!
Professor Berger is awesome. There were 4 tests and that's all he grades. There are like 10 important days you can't miss. 4 test days, 4 review days where he goes over the entire test! All the tests are weighted equally. The fourth test is your final. He tells funny stories that relate to what we're learning. Definitely take his class!
Second time taking him (prior 101) and I will certainly try to fit his world regional into my schedule, I'll go up to 21 units if i have to take him! Fantastic, anyone that says otherwise, puts in no effort. He makes the subject (which many find dull) fun and he has a bank of knowledge. A must have for GEOG, please listen to me, take him over any1
hilarious lectures, chill professor, and easy class. no txtbk, but he has his own lecture notebook in bkstore. no HW,3 tests + non cumulative final. each test comes with a 25 pt map quiz ( study 3 locations per day). go to the REVIEW days, he practically gives all the answers to the tests write the Q & A's its vital for passing the tests !!!
Best Professor I have ever had! I hate Geography and I am only taking this class for GE, However Professor Berger makes this class so awesome. He is hilarious and provides clear lectures! Test Reviews are extremely beneficial towards getting a good grade on his exams. Highly recommend taking his class! :-)
I take this course as a GE class. Professor Berger is an awesome teacher. lectures are clear. He does not take attendance. You don't need to buy a textbook, you do need a notebook prepared by him, the book is under $10. We have 4 exams and some extra credit. He give test reviews and it is very important to be on the review day.
Dr. Berger is an excellent and very distinguished professor! Everything you will need to know is covered the first day of lecture and is in the syllabus. There were 4 overall exams that include map knowledge, no homework and extra credit. Review days are essential! If you're an adult and take your education seriously, I highly suggest him.
This is by no means an "easy A" as some try to make it seem. You do have to put in some serious studying for this class but if you have the time to do that then you'll be fine. He has a strong personality but he will care about your education if you do. Don't under estimate this class. Study the maps, BE THERE ON REVIEW DAYS or fail basically.
He sets the bar high on the first day but as the semester goes on, he's really lenient & kind. Buy his $10 notebook which he reads off for lecture. You NEED to go on review days, & study maps. It can be a dry subject.. He rounded my B+ to an A & excused me the day of the final. Study 3 countries, read 3 pages a day, & you'll be fine.
Professor Berger is awesome! He lays it all out on day one and leaves it up to you. He prepares you and gives you everything you'll need to succeed. He is fun and thinks way to highly of himself but that is a part of his charm. Do yourself a favor if you want to be a better person/student in life, take his class.
If you attend most class periods you will pass. The Professor gives you a review with all the answers to the test before the exam and all you have to do to get this review is remember a formula or an answer learned in a previous lesson. So with that being said, don't buy the text book. YOU DON'T USE IT. Easy class, just study the maps.
Great professor. Pretty scary at first, takes geography seriously! But all in all, he is hilarious and a great teacher. Learned a lot of interesting things in his class. Definitely would take him again.
Dr. Ken Berger was great! He always told funny stories. I took him for Geo 102 and it was very interesting. Don't be scared away from the first class unless you're a lazy bum who wants an easy A. It was definitely hard work but payed off in the end. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
One of my favorite professors that I've ever had. Knows everything there is to know about science it seems. Probably could've skipped classes and done just as well but I always went because I enjoyed his lectures. He cusses a lot and is harsh to students at times but in a funny way. If you study for the exams you'll get an A.
great professor but the class is not easy. test are difficult and you will have to spent lots of hours of study to be able to get a good grade. tests are 100 questions and map 25 questions a total of 125. it feels like you are doing 2 tests at the same time. if you a looking for an easy science class i think geology is easier.
If your bad at memorization, this class will be difficult. 100 m/p AND 80-100 locations. If you truly study and try, he will respect you. If your a slacker, he will destroy you. He gives you everything you need to pass the class with an A. He leaves the grade in your hands. Does not have tricky questions on tests. Cool guy.
He literally gives you EVERYTHING you need to pass his class with an A. That being said, it's not an EASY A, you still have to put in a lot of EFFORT. His class is very TEST HEAVY and you have to memorize a lot of the content. Don't let this deter you, he's a FUNNY guy and makes the lectures INTERESTING as well! I would definitely take him again.
Berger is a hard guy but is so respected. 4 tests overall and the final is not cumulative. Class is not mandatory and I would say you could probably miss a lot and you would be fine. Best piece of advice- you MUST attend review days in order to do good on the tests. Go into his office hours, he will respect you for trying.
Berger gives you every opportunity to do well. He gives you all of the notes for the entire semester, he tells you exactly what's going to be on the test on review days, and he gives extra credit randomly in class, so show up. Plus his tangents can get pretty hilarious. If you can, try to get on his good side, it really helps.
He might seem rude the first class, but as the class goes he softens. He lectures a lot and often tells dad jokes, they are good. He tests heavy, 4 exams 125 questions each. 25 map locations & 100 on a scantron. If you study you'll get an A. Go to his reviews they're basically the test. If you want an easy A this is not your class. You work for it.
Well, Prof. Berger is a great teacher. However, I suck at spelling, and since I miss-spelled country names on the tests, he counted them wrong (even though you could tell what I meant). Therefore I did not do well on exams. He is fun to listen to and is passionate about the subject, but you have to put in the work to do well in his class.
He is very nice and helpful for anyone eager to learn. However, you really have to listen to his lecture; otherwise, you won't be able to pass the class with B or A.
Very funny and knows his subject well. Not a softie or pushover at all. Scary first few classes and eases out the rest of the semester. Can learn a lot if you are a good student. Learning maps is important in your free time as maps are a large part of the tests.
very much a chaotic evil. super mean to students and needs to work on being nice and having a better attitude. thinks swearing a bunch makes him "cool" and "edgy". he tries way too hard to be mr tough guy but ended up making my friend really sad and stressed out.
Loved professor Berger! Very insightful and fun class to take. Seems harsh and mean but he is just preparing his students for the real world. Stick it out and take his class! Awesome professor.
His class is alright. Yeah hes tough at first but he starts to ease out once the class progresses. Hes pretty funny and very insightful. BUT, if you want an A or B, HE WILL MAKE YOU WORK FOR IT! So get ready to study for the exams. Total of 4 exams (with maps for each) and extra credit.
I would strongly discourage taking any class with professor Berger, he is extremely rude and distasteful towards his students. He will regularly cuss and yell at his students for the smallest things. Almost your entire grade will be based off of the tests that he gives. Overall one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my academic career.
Take geography with any other professor on campus. He is ridicules and rude. He will try teaching you that global warming is a political hoax (hard to sit through as a sustainability major). If you do take his class, be prepared for four tests that make up your entire grade, and studying every day! NOT FUN!
He is extremely rude, and has no problem calling students "stupid" or "dumb" for asking questions. He jumps from topic to topic very quickly without any sort of explanation on how they are even related. His class basically consists of him talking AT you the entire time. I recommends taking ANYONE else for geo 101.
