He's cool and really funny, but I wouldn't take his class again. He is an extremely tough grader on tests.
Great guy, very entertaining in class, but very hard grader. Seemed interested in whether or not students learned, too.
He is a great teacher. His tests are sometimes hard because he doesn't give partial credit. He explains things very well, and gives shortcuts that other teachers don't.
The reason I don't like this professor is because he does not give partial credit. Also it seems that he wants you to get everything wrong so it will be easier for him to grade the tests. And also he thinks he is witty, intelligent, and funny, but he is not.
I thought he was a great teacher..I recommended him to friedns and they thought the same. He's a smart ass of course..but it keeps it fun...And when I took him in Spring 05 he gave partial credit...i actually made an A on one test and I didn't fail any of them. I got a B!
i hate math, but he's the best teacher I've ever had. he's a total smart ass, which makes class fun. He shows you the easiest way to do stuff, even if it's not what the other teachers are doing. He doesn't give partial credit, which sucks, but none of my math teachers ever have, so maybe it's a bigger deal to some people. I highly recommend him
funny as ****
He's the best math teacher i've ever had. He really knows how to explain things so you don't have to be a genius to understand it.
very tough class, but Prof. Ken is a good ol' country boy who believes in teaching the right way: straightforwardly. if you have ever scuba-dived in your life, you'll love him. he teaches the very difficult class so that anyone can learn.
has he ever curved before?
He did not teach the way that I learn so I thought he was very hard. He is straight forward in lectures but I thought the tests were off the wall. He was an ass but that made him funny!
he explains the difficult material very well and does it was a pretty f***ing awesome sense of humor. the only problem I had with him was that he was a very hard grader. it was common for him to take off 15 pts for dumba$$ mistakes (ex. making easy algebraical mistakes) and he does not curve at all.
A bit tough if you're not a math person, but a great class! He's a BIG smartass, with just enough ego and devil-may-care attitude to make things fun, but he's never annoying. I recommended him to a friend, who enjoyed him just as much as I did. I came to sit in on a summer class, and he invited me to his office after to help me with my schedule!

He's a cute, and funny too!!!!
Excellent instructor, Funny, but I don't believe a word of any of his stories.
Funny, but don't take him too seriously.
This guy is the funniest/best professor I've had in college. His stories are amazing. He's great because he can spend half the class telling stories sometime, and then teach you some of the hardest things in 10 minutes. He has an uncanny ability to teach. I have a new respect for teachers after having this man. I'll be taking him for 142!
Bonee is definitely one of the top two teachers I've ever had- he's hilarious, his class is somewhat challenging (not annoyingly so), and it gave me a reason to wake up at 8 every morning. I highly recommend him.
One of the funniest professors you'll ever meet!
I had Mr. Bonee for Calculus A in 1990. He was a superb instructor. Very fair and nice. He liked my HP calulator and asked to see it during an exam! Cool guy.
Great teacher, but I don't believe all his stories. His wife must be a saint!!!
Prof Bonee was absolutely awesome! He spoke in english rather than math and made calc 1 a breeze!
One of the best teachers I've ever come across. His tests aren't always easy but quizzes really help! Taking him again for 142..loved his class.
He is absolutely hilarious.
absolutely the best teacher I've ever had. He makes class interesting and super easy to pay attention to. He sometimes seems intimidating, but don't be scared of him because he's super nice!
Ken Bonee is a great professor. If you are looking for an EASY grade math 142 is not the class for you but if you are looking for a prof that is easy to understand and that doesn't mind helping try Ken. His humor is quite hilarious at times and he is just an overall funny guy. Quizzes are usually take home and are easy. Homework is not mandatory
His exams are JUST like the problems you see in class, no surprises. I finished with a solid A, without spending any significant time studying outside of class. If you don't understand what's going on in class then it's suggested you make sure you do, and you'll be fine. The only thing is that his extremely **** comments were not appreciated.
Great Teacher. Will take his class again.
He is the best professor I have ever had. Do the assigned work and the class is a breeze. No curve though!
Funny, and interesting.
Ken Bonee is an entertaining, upbeat, and energetic calculus 1, 2, 3 and Diff. Eq. Professor. He is focused on making the class understand concepts and gives great examples and guidelines for everything he teaches.
I loved him as a teacher but found his tests to be hard, but the material in Calc II is just harder and he'll tell you that. If you have trouble MEET WITH HIM. He was extremely helpful!! Go to class! Make sure you do well on quizzes. They bump up your grade quite a bit if you do.
Ken Bonee is an interesting fellow, he will try to scare you to death to weed out those who want to be there and those who don't. The reviews can be vague, but he's willing to answer any questions in class. He's definitely a more than fair grader. There's absolutely no extra credit in the class, but the quizzes are pretty easy. Funny guy. Take him.
This man is a GOD!!!!! Without a doubt my favorite professor at this school. If you can take him do it!
If you want to learn, take him. Not the easiest teacher but will teach you a lot of math if you are willing to put in the effort.
Ken is the best math teacher I have had so far and I'm entering Advanced calculus 4 and Diff Eq. this fall. He keeps the class on their toes, teaches with reason and gives take home quizzes. He tells stories when the class gets bored or sidetracked to give your short attention span a break. An A+ teacher if you intend to go past Calc 2, B if not!
One of the most DIFFICULT and most REWARDING classes I have taken. NO CURVE! NO EXTRA CREDIT! But, he is an extremely helpful, funny, and intelligent teacher. 4 exams. 12 quizzes. A final. Exams are difficult. Going to office hours helps though. I would recommend him if you are willing to work for an A, otherwise don't take him!
A great math teacher and great math teachers are hard to come by. He explains everything super well and is always willing to help you if you are struggling. He is funny and pretty laid back. The quizzes are take home and are pretty easy if you take the notes. His tests are ez if you review the notes from lecture. I'm taking him again for math 231
He's ok as a person, but he's a pretty difficult teacher. Teaches math like it should be taught.
If god taught math, he'd teach it like Ken Bonee. This guy is the best math teacher I have ever had. I have taken him for Math 141, 142, and now 231. His class is challenging, just because the subject is challenging. This guy needs to be teaching other math teachers how to teach math. He's hilarious. The way he teaches makes me want to go to class!
great math teacher, had for 142 also. love going to class and hearing the odd stories he has to tell, which helps to break up the class. Grades tests very hard, but you do learn the material
He's a great guy and really funny. He isnt the most clear about his projects but I think thats just because he doesnt grade them very hard. His class is pretty easy and you don't really have to go but i still do because its not boring
Definitely the best math teacher I've had in my life when it comes to actually TEACHING the material. If you have Ken Bonee, you WILL learn a LOT about calculus. Great teacher, funny, and very helpful.
He's an excellent math teacher and he has an interesting personality as well. His class isn't particularly easy and he's fairly strict with grading tests, but you will learn the material in his class.
Mr. Bonee has been my favorite math teacher. You will learn a lot in his class. What he teaches is much more in depth than what is on the test. He goes over similar problems the day before tests. Although he is a smart "butt", I found him entertaining. His personality and looks remind me of Hugh Laurie in House.
Mr. Bonee is a great teacher. The class isn't easy because he grades pretty hard, but if you go to class and pay attention you will learn the material. He is really good about explaining the concepts so you will learn the material.
This man is amazing. He is by far my favorite professor at UT and my favorite teacher ever. He is an awesome teacher with an even better personality. If you can take him for every math class you can.
Had him for DE and was by no means an easy course but Bonee is a great teacher! He's a decently challenging grader but is very fare and very good at explaining material. I would take him for any math classes you can
Calculus 2 is an extremely hard class. He is really helped and will answer any questions. Grades really tough and tests are hard. Definitely one the best in the math dept. so take him if you can
Hilarious but the best teacher. Complains a lot about everything and waste lots of time. Helpfulness like +10 if you are a girl.
Professor Bonee is a great teacher, the best in the math department I've had but his class is pretty hard. Attendance isn't mandatory and he doesn't take homework grades but his exams are pretty hard. As long as you write down all the practice problems you go over in class and study the old exams on his website you will do fine in the class.
Better comedian than professor. You will laugh occasionally as everyone suggest but in the end he would rather be playing golf than teaching math and it shows. Avoid if possible.
I have never had a math teacher who taught so well. I wish I could take him for every math class. He gave you optional homework, but he teaches the material so well I never even looked at it. He also understands that we can't sit and focus on a lecture for an hour so he likes to tell stories every 20ish minutes.
Absolutely terrible teacher. He would fit in better teaching/coaching at a high school.
Amazing math teacher! His class is challenging if you want an A. Only grades are 4 Exams, 1 Final, and 10(of 12) group/take home quizzes. His tests can be tricky cause he throws curve balls, but they are all very doable. Anything on the tests he will go over in class. Homework is optional but I always did it anyway. I'm expecting an A in the class.
It is difficult to make an A in this class. He only has exams and quizzes so you have to be careful about mistakes. His exams are usually 5-7 questions, which also doesn't leave room for much mistakes. His final will probably lower your grade, so be careful with that too. He teaches the class well, however, only take him if you want a challenge.
Ken is a pretty blunt guy. He teaches the class at his own pace, yet as long as you're there daily you'll be totally fine. The material is kind of rough but he always seems to have a worthwhile opinion that almost always helped me out.
Ken Bonee is one of the best professors at UT. Hands-down one of the best classes I've taken. He is very clear, and you WILL know the material. He can be a bit tough at times, but if you do what he asks then you will be fine. I respect this man, and his tests are no joke. However, he is very willing to help his students and wants them to do well.
The man is a genius... He knows the material he teaches very well and can pretty much answer every question you may have. Tests are hard, so if you want and easy A, don't take his class. He is also hilarious, love his jokes...
Ken Bonee is a great teacher and made Calculus 2 a very manageable class. He is a pretty funny guy and knows his stuff. I'd say he is probably the best teacher to have for 142. He doesn't do mandatory homework. There are 4 tests, a final, and 12 quizzes(best 10 out of 12). The tests can be difficult, but he gives a lot of partial credit.
He's not that bad of a professor but I would avoid taking him if you can. I bought a $200 book that I picked up maybe twice. He spends more time telling stories and trying to make you laugh than anything. Which is not what I signed up for, which is probably why I didn't pass his class.
Most difficult math professor I've had here, but with that usually comes a good teacher. He's good. He'll intimidate you with no partial credit horror stories but you'll do fine on the exams as long as you know the process. He makes Calc2 seem simple but in a positive way. Recommend!
Bonee is a great Math teacher. All homework is option, but your grade will be higher if you do at least half if it. His lectures are awesome and very informative. Overall, his class was very clear and understandable.
Professor Bonee is hilarious! He will definitely make you laugh which makes you want to come to class. He makes math fun. The work can be difficult but he will help if you ask. He understands the subject very well. Tests are sometimes hard but as long as you put in the work you should be fine. Would definitely take him again.
He's really relatable and gives clear explanations to questions. He's fair in his grading, but isn't lenient. You have to do the homework if you want to pass. Quizzes won't be given without warning until the end of the semester, but you MUST attend every class toward the end to ensure passing grades on the quizzes.
Mr. Bonee was hilarious, he had funny stories to help get you through the class. However, don't take his class if you're looking for an easy A. No homework required, but helpful to do it. Bonee is a very fair teacher, so what you get is what you get, no exceptions. He knows the material very well, so you'll be a wiz at calc by the end of the class.
He is great! shows you what you need to know Always has great stories
Outstanding teacher, best math instructor I've ever had. Was terrible in all aspects of Math until this class. Everything is explained in a way for you to succeed if you pay attention and give solid effort. I definitely earned my grade but would not have been so positive without his guidance.
I absolutely loved Mr. Bonee. He can be a little intimidating at the beginning but he is definitely a nice guy. He knows what he's talking about and is very clear and engaging in his lecture. This was probably my least stressful class this semester thanks to him .
Such an awesome professor! Easy to understand and really helps students! 10 "unannounced" quizzes throughout the semester that you complete in groups. Would recommend him to anyone!
This man made me go from abhorring mathematics to loving it. He is SO clear and he explains the hardest concepts in a way I could teach to a newborn. I loved Differential Equations with him. I wish I could have had him for 142 and 241. TAKE THIS MAN! REARRANGE YOUR SCHEDULE TO ACCOMMODATE HIM!
Mr. Bonee is awesome. He's not your average math teacher. He's got a "good ole boy" attitude and mindset. He's super knowledgeable and can actually teach you his knowledge. He will make you better at math if you come to class and pay attention. But his stories make you want to attend lecture.
Dr. Bonee is a good professor. His tests and quizzes are very straight-forward, and you are always very prepared for them as long as you do the online homework (which isn't very hard) and go to class on review day. His quizzes are always group quizzes, and he is usually helpful during them if you're really stuck on a problem.
He's one of those professors that seems like he doesn't even need the job, like he only does it out of pure enjoyment. He really makes learning the material feel super important. Gives good useful tips like "Always go with the Roth IRA." He's like a wise father figure. Defiantly one of the best at UT
If you can take him, do it! He is very straight-forward and he tells you exactly what will be on the test. The tests are very easy if you understand the homework problems. He is also very helpful if you need it! Definitely recommend taking him!
Aweful!!!!!! Do not take... worst teacher ever.
He's alright. The class is not too hard if you're decent at math. However, he's sometimes boring and he doesn't seem like he cares too much about his students. He digresses a lot. I was so bored in class that I eventually barely paid attention and had to teach it to myself. He puts his notes online, which was a lifesaver for me. Overall, meh.
Funny in class and excellent instruction! Take this guy if you can get him. Best math teacher I have ever had!
I love this man! He is the greatest. He explains everything super thoroughly and he always lightens the mood somehow. He seems intimidating at first, but really he's a softie. High key recommend
He is a really good teacher. Once you get a feel for how the tests are you will be fine. He is sometimes random and tells us weird stories, but this stuff makes class really entertaining and not boring. I would definitely take him again.
The best teacher I've had at UTK. At first, he seems weird and intimidating I considered switching professors. I'm so happy I stayed. This is not a flipped course and he teaches all the material in an easy to understand way. He tells you exactly what to expect and will be on the on the tests. He gives warning when there are a "pop" group quizzes.
Absolutely amazing professor... thats all I have to say.
Ken Bonee was a very straight forward teacher. If you go to class and listen, you will do fine on homework and the tests.
Hes great. Teaches the class in a way that is easy to understand. Hes very straightforward and clear with what will be on the tests/quizzes as well. I would definitely take him again.
As long as you go to lectures and do the reviews for the exams you'll be fine, he's great at dumbing down calc so definitely take if you can! He's also so funny and tells some really weird stories between examples
Awesome
Switched to Mr. Bonee's Calc 2 class from another professor I didn't care for and it was a great move. He's a great lecturer, goes at a calm pace and makes everything easy to understand. He's also really funny and likes to tell stories. He assigns homework but it isn't graded, quizzes are in groups. One downside; he's not big on partial credit.
Calc 2 is a hard class, but Bonee made it understandable. Final grade was based on 4 exams, 12 group quizzes (2 dropped), and 1 final. No extra credit was given or offered. However, if you pay attention in class, and are able to do some problems without them being assigned you'll do fine. The few times I emailed him he responded the same day.
Keeps class interesting through storytelling and does a great job of explaining material in a way that makes it easier to visualize and understand. He doesn't like partial credit though so be sure you know your stuff for tests. Lowest two of 12 quiz grades were dropped, all of which were done in groups. Just make sure you study hard, youll be fine
