He may be tough because of lots of essay quizes, but he explains everything clearly. He listens to students' view points and gives students chances to get better grades. International students who don't have American background should take his course because he speaks slowly and clearly. You have to work hard though..
He doesn't have organization when teaching, so is hard to follow him with the book beacuse he jumps all over. When he grades the essays he is unfair no matter how hard you can work he still grades low. Usually I am a good student, but this class put me through hell. If you have other choice for this class take it and you'll be fine.
So incredibly boring and gives nothing but busy work. No wonder he's not teaching AP U.S. History, he can't even teach college kids!
Mr. Bowyer is every helpful and clear. I had him back in high school and Now I am taking hime agian.
i really enjoyed this teacher. i could not pass history if my life depended on it and when i took it a third time with bowyer, it was so different. although no one else in the class laughed at his humor, i found him funny and he went through a lot of material in his class so dont miss a day! be cool with him and he'll be cool with you.

He's very helpful, write down everything he says and remember the significance of each fact, then memorize it for tests and anyone can get a good grade...he gives extra credit assignments too.
Bowyer is an awesome teacher. I loved his lectures and short stories. If you plan ahead, engage in class, study, take notes, and take advantage of his generous offers to critique your work before it is due, you will succeed.
Mr. Bowyer begins his class with good wit and humor. The fun soon turns obnoxious and he becomes arrogant. He has all of his lecture notes pre-typed and reads from them. He doesn't explain what he is looking for on his ALL ESSAY quizzes. He grades harshly and is overall vague in what he is asking for in your responses.
great teacher.. all based on lecture, dont need to read if you dont want but will help with tests.. he helps by telling you specific things to study for test. loved him
Take really good notes, study them so that you'll remember them and you should pass the test. To me his tests were vague but I soon learned that as long as you put down every detail that you know about what hes asking, then you should pass. I didn't use the book at alll. I reccomend him especially considering what I've heard about the other profs.
Pretty good teacher - easy class...if you show up, listen and follow up his lectures with what's in the book. Tests are all essay. No multiple choice here. He's funny too and likes the class to participate. All in all - I would take another one of his classes.
I had his night class, so only 1 day a week. He lectures the whole time but its not boring, take notes and you're good to go. No homework and you DONT need a book!! He lets you know what will be on the test and he'll stay late so you can ask questions..you can miss about 3 classes at most, but it's a definate B or A if u try, plus its easy 2 cheat
He was cool, Fun, very informative. At first his class seems overwhelming, but if you study his lectures(take good notes). He is easy. He really teaches you the curriculum. Tests are essay, but just write everything you learned and it's easy, very good class.
Awesome Teacher. He makes History interesting and tells great stories. The tests are essay questions but he goes over everything that will be on the tests and gives an opportunity for extra credit.
he jumps around the book a lot. he grades harshly. just write every little thing you take notes on because the exams are essay questions. he has this presentation extra credit and we have watched one old movie. he is rather boring and i absolutly dread going to this class. i would have just taken the class online.
He is a very good teacher easy going but he wont put up with bs, lets us know excatly whats going to be on the midterms, you just got to be able to take good notes and read your book and your set, highly recommendable especially if you like history
He is a very good teacher easy going but he wont put up with bs, lets us know excatly whats going to be on the midterms, u just got to b able to take good notes and read ur book and ur set, highly recommendable especially if u like history. He loves Del Taco and once in while he asks questions to the class and if u answer right he'll give change lol
Teacher is helpful, clear and funny. Willing to help, does get a little strict on test and assignments due, blue book mandatory for tests.Tells you what will be on the test. Learn as much as possible about 5-6 topics so that you can write thorough explanation and in detail which he likes. No book needed. History is boring but he tries.
He is so nice. It is easy to get good grades.
Easy teacher, so far I have taken 3 of his classes 6,7 and 2 and have gotten A's in all of them.
He is a really cool, laid back guy. Take the class. Easy - he even reviews the test right before and gives you the questions so you can prepare. Nice guy!
Great place to knock out your history requirements!!
All the great things already said times 10!
Its much easier to learn from a professor who truely admires the subj. Hes funny and very clear on whats going to be on the tests. Gives alot of xtra credit too.
This guy totally rocked! But you gotta go to his lectures or you will not pass the class. Oh and write everything down. EVERYTHING! Also do the extra credit believe me it's easy and the points are helpful!
Took this class in the summer session. He is easy. You have to go to the classes to take notes, but if you do miss a class just grab notes from a classmate. the notes is what is on the test. day before the test he tells you whats on it. you will need blue books because the tests are written. He is VERY FUNNY. Laid back guy. TAKE THIS CLASS!
really cool dude. class is super easy if u go to lecture and pay attention. it will b beneficial to write everything down. easiest history class. the only way to fail is to not go or not do the work.
Really funny, he talks about his x alot. He probably still can't get over her, but yah i did like him and his teaching is easy. Note down all his leacture and you will get an A for sure
He's cool. Trys to make it easy. Tells you what going to be on the test. Just take good notes.
Cool professor. Very laid-back. Tries to make lessons fun. Willing to explain if students don't understand. No surpises on test but you should also do a little reading on your own and not just rely on the notes you take in class. Class wasn't as easy as I thought it would be BUT not too bad. Don't miss lectures or else you'll do BAD on tests!
Very cool teacher, Easy class everything is from lecture, take good notes and pay attention to hints through out lecture. Test are very straight forward. Easy class.
EASY, in fact he called himself, "Yup, I'm Mr. Easy" in class. If you have decent listening skills and take ok notes, that's all you need to pass, I earned an A. His test are HEAVILY lecture based so attendance is mandatory, has a great sense of humor, never bought the book and passed. My girlfriend failed a test and he still gave her an A.
Great teacher. Just take good notes and write down everything he says and you'll do fine
Easiest instructor I've ever had. He makes a lot of jokes and is very laid back. Take good notes and you will pass with an A. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Don't bother buying the book, he gives you all the info you need in his lectures.
Cool dude. Easy class. Just take notes and use his own words on exams.
easy! take him! just do all the extra credit and u can get an A =]
He's a funny guy! totally legit. Handsom too. I think that his class made history super enjoyable! I love his class! easy class to pass!
Cool dude he gives extra credit and makes things really clear. His class is fun and hes funny.
Professor Bowyer was an amazing teacher. He is clear and explains the material very well. He cares for his students and wants nothing more than for his students to understand the material. He offers extra credit and as long as you do study what he tells you to you will do great.
He was a great Professor looking forward to the next class. Hoping to be able to have him as my teacher for my next class. Loved this teacher!! Found it nice that he gave us a study guide for each test. :) His teaching style is easy to understand and humors
very good looking, easy to understand and his teaching style made it easy to understand and remember! Cant wait to take history 7 with him
I got a C. Thats all that matters really....
Bowyer?s class was extremely laid back?he connects well with his class. I honestly just loved his freaking class! He offers extra credit, and he doesn?t give you like actual homework. His tests are pretty simple. I ended up with an A. I would recommend this professor. You?ll never be bored.
If you are a foreigner, dont take him. You cant follow. If you are good at English/English speaker, take him! He is funny and very good at teaching.
Haven't taken him yet but would like to know from this semester's students if you actually learn anything from him. Yes I get he's easy, funny, and so-on but is he all that informative? Yes I would like an A but would also like to actually learn something to. So just wondering if anyone could include that in their comments. Thanks.
Easiest teacher i've ever had, funny and a wonderful talented teacher that loves history! really connects with his students, gives out "prizes" if you answer a question correctly. loves "del taco" :), his test are based on lecture notes, so attendance is mandatory if you want an A. Extra credits are provided throughout the semester. Take his class
Fantastic teacher! He is very passionate about the subject and is very funny. The class has 3 test the lowest dropped and 1 final. 5 identifications and 1 essay on each test but 2 essays on final. He tells you what to study so that helps but the tests can be difficult. He makes the subject interesting. I would take him again. E.C. is offered
California history, great class, fun, learned a lot. Yes, he is easy, but do not take him just because of that. You will learn about history in an enjoyable setting.
Great professor, yes, he is easy, but you learn. He makes class enjoyable. Took it over Winter session so faster pace, but not bad. Extra credit can be earned, if you need it. Two film reviews replaced a book report and one film review due to the time frame.
Great Prof. Keeps class interesting. Take good notes, extra info from text is necessary to fully answer his exams questions. He gives the topics to prepare for the week prior to exam, they are short answer & essay. Make sure to get the significance in the answer. Movie review & book report required. EC available, if you really need it.
Attend the class, study the notes from the lecture, and do the extra credit you will get an A like I did. He entertains the class to keep everyone alive. Too bad he is only teaching one class next semester.
great teacher lots of help vary interesting tells you exactly whats going to be on the test and offers multiple extra credit opportunities
LOVED this class! Already miss Mr Bowyer now that my next classes have started, he is an excellent teacher in that he keeps class interesting and keeps everyone involved. Wish more teachers were like this! Take this class, study your notes, learn history in a fun inviting environment! You won regret it.
EASY. Graded hard the first test to scare everyone but graded super easy on the last ones. Doesn't read the book review or the film review, just checks to see you did it. Drops one test out of three. Then there is a final too.
He was an awesome teacher. Made the class fun and enjoyable. Would highly recommend taking this class. Make sure you are on time. As long as you turn in assignments you will get credit. Gives you an awesome guide for test.
I loved this class-took it this summer and it was a breeze. Take great notes, don't be late, pay attention! Other than that its an easy class, no need to get the book. Gives a great study guide (Exact material on test) be prepared to study cram he gives study guide one night before test...at least over summer. Overall FANTASTIC experience!
He is such a great teacher for HIST 7 . I took him over the summer and he was clear about every aspect of history. His lectures were great I actually remembered them during test time. The test are actually about what we learned in class. Its a great class I highly recommend to take him. There are 3 test, 1 paper and the final.
One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. 3 tests, drops lowest score, a book review, a film review that we watched in class, and a final. Lectures every day and keeps it interesting. Tests are off lecture, didn't open the book once, and he gives a clear study guide the day before. Book review was easy. Offers LOTS of extra credit. Easy A
One of the easiest and funniest teachers I've had. He makes the material very easy to understand. Don't need the book as long as you don't miss class and take good notes. I LOVED HIS CLASS!!!! Take him.
Great professor! I got an A. Tons of extra credit opportunities! Take good notes and you will do well. He's easy-going and very helpful.
*Winter Session* 3 tests, 1 film review, 1 final, 4 extra credit assignments. No quizzes. No homework. Easy A.
Don't waste your money buying the book, Bowyer goes over everything you need to know for the tests. Attendance is mandatory, after 3 absences he drops you. Auditory learners will do best, no powerpoints & he doesn't write anything on the board. Pay attention & take good notes, expect the study guide to given out the night prior to the test.
This class was pretty easy. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test the week before, but it is your job to study and make sure you remember!
Such a funny professor. He is so nice and gives you a study guide before each test which makes it easy! you must give specific details on test which are on a green book! He is honestly so understanding and gives extra credit worth 15 point! he also drops your lowest test score !
Attendance is mandatory. 3 absences can equal a drop. Grades harshly on tests, so take good notes if you want to impress him or he will give you only less than partial points & write on your paper "and?".He's funny and sometimes gives ppl strange looks (a tiny bit arrogant). His class is enjoyable even on a saturday morning.
He's a great professor and makes it fun to learn about history. If you want to pass his class, show up for all of his lectures. Write everything he says down and keep your notes organized. You don't have to read the book to pass his tests. Be sure to show up the class prior to a test as he gives you a study guide.
OMG, one of the easiest, funniest, greatest prof i have ever seen!!! took him over the spring and the class was super easy. just take some good notes, show up for class, and do a book and film review and your done with an A. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Funny. Easy. Attendance is mandatory IF you want an A. He lectures about things that the textbook wont tell you sometimes. One book review and he drops your lowest test score at the end of the semester. Highly recommend!
Great teacher. Knows his stuff. Take notes every class and keep them organized, that's it. He is comedy and gives out his own pocket change so you can buy some Del Taco one day. I highly recommend Mr Bowyer to anyone wanting to take a History.
Best history teacher I have ever had! Drops the lowest test score at the end of the semester. He really cares about his students passing. He is hilarious and gives money out for answering questions correctly! I highly recommend taking his class.
Best history teacher ever! He is so helpful and taught me a lot! He truly cares about his students!
I took his class over the summer and liked it. He is a funny teacher and is willing to help. You have to attend class everyday and take strong notes. All the exam questions answers were in the lecture notes so pay attention.
Cool,Funny, best 23 exams, + final, book review + movie critique (not hard) tells u what will be on the exam, just memorize the terms,he gives out change & if ur lucky youll get a dollar for answering correctly. Great dude, would recommend 2 every1! Easy A, clear cut, offers extra credit, bought text but DIDNT need it, jus write down ALL he says
The class was super simple. He only has 3 tests for the whole semester. Don't bother buying the book; it's not necessary. As long as you listen to what he says and take good notes, you should easily get an "A." He gives you the key terms the class before the test so if you memorize them, you'll do great on the test.
Professor Bowyer has a great sense of humor. He lets know you know exactly what will be on the Mid-terms and Final. Two extra credit assignments. Book review and Movie review. Take good notes and you will be just fine. NO recording lectures though. I actually learned History, was never interested until I took him.
This professor is very funny, he really makes learning fun. Just make sure you buy the book to help you out because he goes too fast on lectures. He gives extra credit so take advantage of it. He gives you money for answering questions correctly and he makes history fun.
Amazing Professor, super easy, and hilarious, his midterms are all based on his lectures and a day before the test, midterm, or final he lets you know what might be on the test. Clear coded lectures, makes 3 hr. lectures into a fun classroom time, telling hilarious stories of his past and gives out money if you answer his questions correctly!
If you take his class you do not need to purchase the book! His exams are based off his lecturenotes. I did not touch the book and got an A.
What people don't tell you is that when he gives you the terms..(identities) you have to explain in depth what they are and not just short defn, you'll lose points. On tests, he won't tell you how much you have to write, but write a lot. And, the essay questions, you won't know what they are until the day of. Write a lot on essay question too.
Some should mention this but he is not descriptive on how much he wants you to write for your identitiesdefinitions, but I'll tell you that you need to write more than just a few sentences. Write as much as you can including the essay questions, you pick one of 2 but you won't know what they are until the day of. He drops your lowest test score
He's a great teacher, makes history fun and you actually learn with him. He tells you what to expect on the test, but you must be very detailed on your assignments & tests. I would take him again, highly recommend, just take good notes study what he tells you to study and you'll pass. Best teacher I've ever had !
One of the most fun history teachers I've ever had. He literally tells you what will be on every test and the final. Do the book review early. Definitely take him if you can. He also gives money if you get questions right. Take good notes, and you'll be good to go. You don't need the textbooks. He made history fun to learn!
Professor Bowyer makes learning fun, and his passion for history is unmistakeable. Very funny, affable and laid back. And he LOVES to hand out money for right answers during his lecture. But he DOES expect you to know the material come test time, and won't settle for fudgedbluffed responses. Pay attention in class and you'll have no trouble.
This is my second time taking Bowyer for History and he has yet to disappoint. He is hilarious and super easy. He tells you what is on the test the week before so you have plenty of time to study. I didn't use the book but just took VERY detailed notes. If you take strong notes, there is no need for the book. If you need to take History take him!
Great instructor. He keeps it interesting and is really funny. He outlines the tests a week in advance but do not be fooled. He wants very detailed answers. You have to know the material. Take good notes from his lectures and don't show up late. Three tests, one book review and a final.
Excellent instructor. His expectations are clear, and discussions in class are straightforward with some added humor. Participate in class and you might earn yourself a penny or a dollar from him. Be punctual, be ready to listen, ask questions, and take notes .
Great Professor. Clearly explains what's expected to be on tests. Not your normal multiple choice exams, be prepared to define and write essays. Makes lectures enjoyable and very interesting, even gives out money when you answer questions during class participation. Definitely glad to take his class, enjoyed history more than I thought I would
Okay so he has a clear grading criteria. Will drop 1 out of 3 of your lowest midterm scores. You don't need a book at all (if you study from the book only and not his lectures you'll most likely fail.), you just have to take notes during his lecture very accurately. He gives like a "study guide" the day/week before the test so you can study also.
lectures are long and you really have to write down notes to pass his tests. Tests are not hard but are lengthy.
Mr. Bowyer was a wonderful professor. I had him for HIS 7 in the Winter and every day involved a lecture, however he kept them interesting. Everything he writes on the board will be on the test and in order to pass you need to write notes on what he says. He drops your lowest Midterm grade (out of 3), but if you study and take notes it's easy.
Hilarious, Straight Forward, and Approachable. Take really good notes, I recorded lecture and re did my notes every night. I never used the book, didn't even bother to get it. Class is easy if your paying attention. Be sure to answer what he is asking on the exam and you'll do fine. Don't try the beat around the bush answer, you'll fail.
This class was exactly what I expected based on what was said on here. He's funny, helpful, and, in short, an absolutely phenomenal professor. I bought the book to basically cover myself in case I missed anything important in class, but it wasn't necessary. Good notes will do. He is direct on what he expects throughout the course including tests.
Bowyer did only lectures and one movie during the semester. I only used the American History book to study for the test, so if you only use notes for tests then don't get that textbook. If you study for the tests and do the two papers, then you'll pass the class.
Youll have to do 1 book review, 1 movie review, 3 tests (if you get an A on the first 2, you dont need to take the 3rd) and a final that isnt cumulative. You dont need the book the tests are written not multiple choice. He basically wants you to remember and write exactly what he said in the lecture. If you study notes and listen, easy pass.
Cool professor; he gives 3 exams, 1 book review, 1 movie review and allows you to do a presentation for extra credit. Don't waste your money on the book, his exams are based on what he says in his lectures so I suggest to audio record his lectures. I find history boring but he made it fun with his commentary
Professor Bowyer's test are all based on his lectures and not the book. He gave three tests, a book review and a movie review. He also gave extra credit for another movie review and/or class presentation. He will tell you exactly what to study from your lecture notes the week prior to the test. I would definitely take him for another history class.
Bowyer is a great teacher. He's really funny and keeps you up since history can be boring. He's caring and he makes sure you understand the material. Best part is the extra credit, you have to work for you're grade but he makes it possible. He straightforward and will let you know what's in the test. No surprises. Highly recommend.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! He goes over everything you need to know for test during his lectures. His humor really gets you into the lectures. Whenever he says something is "significant" WRITE IT DOWN, IT WILL BE ON THE TEST! Mr. Easy Test!
He was a really funny guy. I love history. Honestly he was a super tough grader, didn't have any power points and doesn't write on the board. You kind of just have to take notes off what he's saying and make sure you write down everything because all his exams are written response exams which aren't difficult but you have to include EVERYTHING.
We just finished our two midterms; I and some students find out that Bowyer did not read carefully about what we wrote in the test and charged points even though we gave a correct answer. After we went to show he that the contents he wanted us to answer were actually on our paper and argued with him, he finally gave the points back. Bad experience
Very unprofessional. This professor usually being 15 minutes late to the class, and he even once didnt come to the whole class without any notification and put the whole class to wait for nothing. He doesnt read carefully about your writing of the test and grades right answers as wrong answers. You can find better professors but not him.
All his exams are written exams including the final. He's a very tough grader. In my opinion, I feel like he wasn't fair on grading because even though we had all of the information on there, it still wasn't good for him.
Mr. Bowyer does a good job of balancing humor with the topic of U.S. History. He is lecture heavy and only uses PowerPoint for visual aid and that is fine. If youre good at taking notes and studying you will be fine. He does a good job of letting you know what will be expected on exams.
First off, all the bad ratings are probably students that did not take time to listen to him while he was lecturing, second, he is such an easy on going professor. Everything is pretty simple. show up to class, study & he even tells you what will be on the midterms/final. so no excuse to fail! oh! and always always be detailed in each test.
Professor Bowyer is the best history professor. Show up to lecture because literally the terms he teaches in class will be on the test. I personally did not read the book because I went over the notes he went over in class.
Bowyer gives all the information in his lectures so missing out of class will be the downfall. He gives few homework but the grade is in the midterms. He tells you exactly what he wants on the midterms so write in detail or you'll miss points.
One of my favorite instructors ever. Keeps u on ur toes and makes everything interesting. He explains everything for tests in outlines and likes details on tests. U must know the material and always read the chapter in advance, u will b happy u did. Take good notes from his lectures and show up early to class! Dont be afraid to as him questions.
Show up. Take notes. He tells you what is on the test. Study those areas. Easy A! His humour makes it fun. I am not a fan of history but this was hands down the best history teacher I've had. As he's lecturing he tells you whats HUUUUGE and thats what will be on the test. Would take his class again.
very tough grader. you can write exactly the right answer, and hell still find something wrong with it. only assignments are the three tests, so if u mess up youre screwed
Took him for winter class, online and it's just so bad. He does not send any lecture videos. All you have to do is read the book and take the test. He's also super tough grader. He doesn't give clear instructions.
I can agree with all the negative comments. Lectures are poorly written in the modules, with very little to no information on the topics and then expects you to write an essay about the lecture. False information provided in some lectures which really makes me regret taking his class. Put all my effort in my midterms and still got low scores.
Weekly class discussions that are very easy and take 10 minutes to write. Book required. Taken online. No lectures or videos, just read the book and take the tests. Tests are typed, no multiple choice. Not a terrible choice. He is clear about what he wants in the answers, be specific.
Buy the book its mandatory. He is a great professor, I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. Do the reading, quizzes, and the exams are from the quizzes and you will get an A. You can email if you have any questions or concerns about anything. He also offers extra credit to help you get an A.
This was a super easy class. There was no textbook but we did have weekly reading material. We watched a very long and boring movie, had 3 midterms, 1 final exam, and discussion boards every week. He was super chill and understanding if you emailed him or had a problem and he really didn't grade super harshly.
Amazing professor that gives you clear instructions on what he wants you to complete. A professor that wants you to pass, I would 100% take his class again.
I took his HIS-2 class over summer break. Easy class, open book, just make sure all information is put in responses.
He is an Amazing Professor. The class is very easy! you will need to be there in class to take notes or you can ask someone in class for them. Everything on those notes will be on the exams and there are three exams in total. There are also discussions due once a week. Other than that very easy simple class not heavy on homework.
Professor makes the class easy if you put in the work. Attend class, do the readings, and you're set. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
I recommend taking this guy, he's the classic chill history teacher. Very enjoyable class and the grading is very clear.
Bowyer's lectures were always entertaining— the guy has a great sense of humor and made history fun. Assignments and exams are straightforward, and he is flexible as long as you communicate! Just show up for his easy-going lectures and relax, because he'll tell you when info is important to make sure you have it for the exam. Would take again.
This teacher did not specify the criteria for his assignments and then will grade you down for missing points he did not ask for to begin with.
This teacher does not care about his students and constantly refuses to answer any emails in a timely manner.
Do NOT take this professor unless you want to fail the class. This semester was the most miserable because I had to take this class.
I did not like how the professor taught this class.
