He may be tough because of lots of essay quizes, but he explains everything clearly. He listens to students' view points and gives students chances to get better grades. International students who don't have American background should take his course because he speaks slowly and clearly. You have to work hard though..

He doesn't have organization when teaching, so is hard to follow him with the book beacuse he jumps all over. When he grades the essays he is unfair no matter how hard you can work he still grades low. Usually I am a good student, but this class put me through hell. If you have other choice for this class take it and you'll be fine.

Mr. Bowyer begins his class with good wit and humor. The fun soon turns obnoxious and he becomes arrogant. He has all of his lecture notes pre-typed and reads from them. He doesn't explain what he is looking for on his ALL ESSAY quizzes. He grades harshly and is overall vague in what he is asking for in your responses.

Take really good notes, study them so that you'll remember them and you should pass the test. To me his tests were vague but I soon learned that as long as you put down every detail that you know about what hes asking, then you should pass. I didn't use the book at alll. I reccomend him especially considering what I've heard about the other profs.

Great Professor. Clearly explains what's expected to be on tests. Not your normal multiple choice exams, be prepared to define and write essays. Makes lectures enjoyable and very interesting, even gives out money when you answer questions during class participation. Definitely glad to take his class, enjoyed history more than I thought I would

Okay so he has a clear grading criteria. Will drop 1 out of 3 of your lowest midterm scores. You don't need a book at all (if you study from the book only and not his lectures you'll most likely fail.), you just have to take notes during his lecture very accurately. He gives like a "study guide" the day/week before the test so you can study also.

Mr. Bowyer was a wonderful professor. I had him for HIS 7 in the Winter and every day involved a lecture, however he kept them interesting. Everything he writes on the board will be on the test and in order to pass you need to write notes on what he says. He drops your lowest Midterm grade (out of 3), but if you study and take notes it's easy.

Class is easy if your paying attention. Be sure to answer what he is asking on the exam and you'll do fine. Don't try the beat around the bush answer, you'll fail.

This class was exactly what I expected based on what was said on here. He's funny, helpful, and, in short, an absolutely phenomenal professor. I bought the book to basically cover myself in case I missed anything important in class, but it wasn't necessary. Good notes will do. He is direct on what he expects throughout the course including tests.

Bowyer did only lectures and one movie during the semester. I only used the American History book to study for the test, so if you only use notes for tests then don't get that textbook. If you study for the tests and do the two papers, then you'll pass the class.

Youll have to do 1 book review, 1 movie review, 3 tests (if you get an A on the first 2, you dont need to take the 3rd) and a final that isnt cumulative. You dont need the book the tests are written not multiple choice. He basically wants you to remember and write exactly what he said in the lecture. If you study notes and listen, easy pass.

Cool professor; he gives 3 exams, 1 book review, 1 movie review and allows you to do a presentation for extra credit. Don't waste your money on the book, his exams are based on what he says in his lectures so I suggest to audio record his lectures. I find history boring but he made it fun with his commentary

Professor Bowyer's test are all based on his lectures and not the book. He gave three tests, a book review and a movie review. He also gave extra credit for another movie review and/or class presentation. He will tell you exactly what to study from your lecture notes the week prior to the test. I would definitely take him for another history class.

He was a really funny guy. I love history. Honestly he was a super tough grader, didn't have any power points and doesn't write on the board. You kind of just have to take notes off what he's saying and make sure you write down everything because all his exams are written response exams which aren't difficult but you have to include EVERYTHING.

We just finished our two midterms; I and some students find out that Bowyer did not read carefully about what we wrote in the test and charged points even though we gave a correct answer. After we went to show he that the contents he wanted us to answer were actually on our paper and argued with him, he finally gave the points back. Bad experience

Mr. Bowyer does a good job of balancing humor with the topic of U.S. History. He is lecture heavy and only uses PowerPoint for visual aid and that is fine. If youre good at taking notes and studying you will be fine. He does a good job of letting you know what will be expected on exams.

I can agree with all the negative comments. Lectures are poorly written in the modules, with very little to no information on the topics and then expects you to write an essay about the lecture. False information provided in some lectures which really makes me regret taking his class. Put all my effort in my midterms and still got low scores.
