He is one of best at UAlbany. I took 2 classes from him. Exams are easy. He probably let you write 2 pages long paper every week and give you only 1 final exam. There will be a group presentation for sure. you don't need test book or any other material
Professor Bulko is one of the best at UA. I wish I took a class with him sooner than my senior year, but glad I got to experience him at all. He's very understanding, the work load is light, a 2 page paper every 2 weeks, a group presentation, and maybe a final. He wants you to enjoy the class, and with him, you definitely will.
Bulko is one of my favorites. He is a professor who knows economics inside out and goes out of his way to help his students. Prior to Monday tests, he comes in every Sunday night for reviews and stays until every student knows what they are doing. He has a great personality and runs a great lecture. Highly recommend!
Kenneth Bulko (affectionately called "Kenny B" by some students) is a one of a kind professor. Rarely do you see a professor care about his students, actively want them to understand the material and to succeed, and to have such a fun time teaching the material. He is the reason I started an econ minor. Take him for macro too!
Professor Ken Bulko is definitely an amazing teacher! Not only is he passionate about what he teaches, he actually teaches in a way that makes you want to research the topics on your own. Trust me, I'm a junior and he's one of the few professors that keep me awake during an 8:45 class. He interacts with the class & knows our names by heart.
Bulko is a pretty funny guy, and does care about his students' success. When the class as a whole doesn't understand a concept, he spends extra time on it and really tries to help us understand. There are homework assignments every week, and some of the test questions are confusing but he does curve.
I love Bulko. He's such a silly guy. He really cares about all 200 kids in his lecture. He wants everyone to do well and genuinely is worried about whether or not you are understanding him. He's great.
Best teacher in the college and Eco department encourages you to think and do research Very interesting lectures Highly recommend him Learned a lot from him in a fun way
Kinda funny, pretty nice. Expects you to do the work. Really understanding and listens to students about problems and what they want. Puts all the slides online and puts up practice tests for midterm and final (only tests) Only downside really was that he made us buy an IClicker and we hardly ever used it.
The guy knows his stuff but he just can't teach. He tries to be funny and really does try to explain the materials to the students but in my opinion he failed. the homework questions are online and are nothing as what the lectures are about. you have to teach yourself the materials to pass the homeworks.
He gives 3 exams which are semi-difficult (with curves). Very nice person in general and tries to make economics enjoyable. He will always try to help you understand (peer tutors, office hours, test study sessions). Always uploads slides online and you will have aplia due every week once a week. Overall good class and will take macro with him.
Tries to help students with whatever he can. Listens to students opinions about too much homework due at once and spends extra time on topics students are struggling with. Three tests throughout the year. Lots to know for tests but with practice questions, review sessions and curve they aren't that bad. Homework due once a week.
He makes adjustments to class according to feedback received from his students. He sets up study groups right before exams to make sure you understand the concepts. He also looks George Constanza from Seinfeld which is pretty cool.
Bulko is a great guy. I took him for Macroeconomics. He's funny, tries to get students involved in the class, and keeps things interesting while he's teaching the coursework. The class material itself is a little bit difficult but he does hold review sessions separate from class in the LC for anyone who doesn't understand.
Took both Micro&Macro with him. He is the best teacher for ECON. His tests are straight forward and he is a chill guy. He is always there to help you and I cannot name another prof whose office hours I have willingly gone to. Take him!!!
Very nice guy all in all. But i would not take his class again. During class he just reads straight from the slides and you really don't learn much in class. I had to teach myself everything in this class. There is no point in going to class he doesn't take attendance. Also, the final is cumulative and the material is tough (at least for me it was)
You don't have to go to class because he puts the lectures online along with practice exams. The practice exams don't help much. The tests are not conceptual, they're more applying concepts. He's a funny lecturer, but the material is a bit hard to understand.
A tough class. Be ready to do online homework but in the end it really helps your grade. His grading system can be confusing but just know his curve is the best in the economic department. He grades based on how the class does. I got 60s on most exams and still got an A in the class because everyone else did worse than me.
There are only 3 exams which are hard 25 questions 4pts each. if you don't understand the material you won't do well. There's no real curve in his class even tho he says there is. Willing to help during office hrs. Explains things better one on one than in class. Hw is online & hard.
My favorite teacher by far. Really easy class with pretty interesting lectures.
His lectures seem long and drag on sometimes, and he gets confused when he is doing the notes on the powerpoint once in a while and gets you confused. He is very funny, and jokes around, I highly suggest sitting in the front for this class even if your not used to it. He is a very nice guy though.
Ken is such a great teacher. Even though you don't have to show up to his classes, do it because he tries to make the lectures as interesting and relatable as possible. If not, all the slides are up on Blackboard. He even takes time out of his day to make review sessions and since people barely show up, you get a lot of small group instruction.
All of the homeworks are online, the tests are pretty hard and he uses the iclicker sometimes, but not everytime.
He seemed like a nice guy, but it's a very discussion heavy class. The discussion is all about current events, and kids who are comfortable speaking and with their level of knowledge on topics reap the benefits, while the others wonder if the 30% participation grade is actually legit. The class material itself was pretty weak in terms of enjoyment
I am a freshman and this is my first semester at UAlbany. I entered the school as a public policy major but Bulko's microeconomics class made me change my major to economics. He is a fantastic professor and thoroughly explains the material to make it understandable. Attendance is not taken, but definitely go to class. The curve is great too!
Very lecture heavy class. If you read the textbook and do the homework the tests are pretty easy (they are all multiple choice). Tests and homework are really the only grades. Homework is on Applia and it is set to "keep the highest" so it is hard not to get a 100% every time. He told us to get iClickers and we only used them twice. Very big curve.
One of the best professors I've had at UAlbany. He makes the material relatable to real life and teaches in a way that I never felt bored in class. He is a really caring and nice person. There are weekly HW and 4 tests and cumulative final, which were fairly easy. Also he curves based on class average. To do well, attend class and do the aplia HW.
Ken Bulko is such a gem of a professor. Loved him so much that I'm taking him again next semester. He is kind and genuinely cares about the success of his students. He grades you according to how the rest of the class does, so there's A LOT of room to do well. You've got to put in effort to fail this, especially since he's always there to help you!
Great professor in my opinion. Economics is hard but I never went to class and taught myself using the slides he puts up on blackboard. The Aplia can help your grade if you do well on them. He curves it based on how well the class does and I failed two tests and still ended up with an A- no joke. Also I think we only used iclicker twice.
The class is chill. We barely use the iClickers as the class progresses. He has optional review sessions on Fridays that help out a lot. Tries to make the material interesting. The hardest part about his class is the Aplia but he gives you 3 chances to get the questions right.
Tough Class without great explanation on topics. Online Homework is your best help at understanding concepts.
Bulko is a great professor. Micro was pretty easy you just have to do your aplia and make sure you study for exams. Everything for his class (notes) is posted on black board and this is very helpful
He is great economics professor and he knows what he is talking about . But the test are really hard ! I think he should make easy mcqs .
I LOVED Professor Bulko. He's an awesome teacher and his teaching style is great. He posts all the notes on blackboard and posts practice exams as well. The aplia homework can be time consuming but it's not hard. His office hours are helpful too. As long as you pay attention in class you will pass easily. Highly recommend him to all students.
Bulko is the best professor I've had in UAlbany. I took his ECO 110 & 111 classes. He is such a great econ prof that I actually changed my major to econ because of his classes. His lectures and powerpoint thoroughly explain the topics and chapters. The tests cover everything learned in the chapters, no surprises. Aplia is most helpful in learning.
He's such a great professor but his test are really hard. There are only 25 multiple choice. You definitely have to study for this class. He also available when you need extra help, which is helpful
My favorite class I've ever taken. It was an 8:45am class so that should truly show how enjoyable it was. You have to show up and participate because it's worth 30% of your grade. Group project with topic of your choosing to a certain extent. He wants you to share your opinion and will never disrespect your opinion. Keeps you aware of current news.
Bulko is a great professor who wants his students to do well, but you will have to work for it.
He does a really good job of interacting with the students and making sure everyone understands things and doesn't have questions before moving on. His deadlines often change if the class falls behind schedule, so you will never be doing homework for something you didn't learn yet. He is loud and clear and breaks down difficult things.
I absolutely love this professor and would highly recommend trying to get into one of his classes. He is by far the most organized, passionate and down to earth professor I've ever had. The material can be challenging so be sure to attend class and take notes. His exams are fair but they do require a good amount of preparation.
Definitely a good professor. He pushes back homework if he didn't teach it yet so you never need to learn things he didn't go over in class. Very nice and understanding. Always answers his emails.
very nice guy and uses a lot of real world examples to help you actually understand economics, easy to warm up to and loves people
The subject is not that interesting and very dry. He usually reads right off the powerpoints in class so attending isn't necessary.
I would take other economic professor. My GPA was 4.0 and because of him now its getting low. Lectures are dry and not interesting at all.
He's a nice guy and really approachable. Will adjust homeworks if needed, but I cannot learn from him. I was able to succeed in this class from the textbook, not from his lectures. He goes fast, so it doesn't give time for me to understand what he even said. Put in work to teach yourself if needed and the tests should be okay.
Tough Class without great explanation on topics. Worst professor in the world!! I had gpa of 4.0 and now is lower just because of him. He speaks too slow, and sometimes you can not hear him. I would never recommend this subject to anyone. Also the subject is boring, and give you bad examples. Don't require any participation, no attendce policy.
He is extremely nice, but he goes terribly fast. He says he gives a curve but not really. He doesn't give real world examples to better explain during lectures but will gives you better assistance during office hours. Plan to get a tutor & join a study group. Heavy HW but if he didn't cover it he'll delete it from the assignment. Tests are brutal!
Tough Class without great explanation on topics.
Ken Bulko is a very good professor. I took notes ahead of time, so I'd be prepared for class. What I liked about him and his powerpoints is that he's not so uppity. Bulko teaches like he's speaking directly to each students and finds a way to simply explain each concept. He gives a lot of homework assignments and curves every test.
Boring class, but nice guy. Always engaged with students during lecture which was cool to see. Big curves on the tests, sometimes had clicker quizzes in class, and easy online homeworks every week. Good choice for macro.
Honestly, if you know how to study and you do the homeworks then this class is an easy A. Yeah the lectures might be boring but he has a decent curve and the tests truly aren't bad (assuming you know how to study and actually do it). He's a nice guy. He let me take the final 5 days early so I could go home sooner.
When you study and do hw, don't just memorize but understand the topics because his tests are scenarios mostly. He's very approachable and slides are VERY helpful because they are straightforward and gives examples.
Solid teacher, just do the homework and you'll be fine. Tests aren't too difficult and grading is waaaaay more than fair.
Teaches the class well, sometimes overcomplicates aspects of the course. If you stick to his lecture slides you can do well.
Ken is the man, he tries his best to keep it interesting. He has a very generous curve that makes the class easy but still requires some studying.
A cool guy with a nice curve that makes the class awesome
You can easily get an A but can't learn anything in his course.
This class is really hard so don't take it expecting and easy A. Bulko reads straight off the slides and goes pretty fast so I would advise taking notes prior to class beginning. If you don't seek study help outside of class such as a study group or a tutor, its pretty hard to do well in this class. The course gets hard, quick!
The most condescending teacher I've ever met. He sends an email after every test that shows how poorly the class is doing. For Exam #4, the average was a 53.35 and the mode was 44. For Exam #3, the average was 63.84 and mode of 60. Clearly, if the majority of students can't pass the tests for an INTRODUCTORY CLASS, you think he'd change something.
I have no complaints about this professor. He works hard to make sure everyone does well and curves or grade a whole lot. He gives homework but it is necessary to understand the material. There are no surprises in his class and he just wants everyone to do well. Great professor!
There is homework once a week on Mindtap. He gives 4 tests and drops the lowest grade and those are 50% of your overall grade. Attendance is not mandatory and he does post the lecture slides. I highly recommend going to his office hours if you need help.
Explains and simplifies everything really well. Class is all lecture but keeps students involved my asking the class questions. Has weekly homeworks and the and puts the slides online so tests are easy to study for. Tests and homework can be kinda tough but curves each test generously. Lowest test grade and 2 lowest homework grades are dropped.
I took micro and macro with Ken freshmen year and loved both. He is a fantastic teacher who makes things very clear and uses a lot of real life examples to help students understand. He is funny and attendance is not required if you do the weekly homework assignment and look through his exam study guides.
He over complicates things in class so I stopped going and did better teaching myself. He curves the exams by the class median and also drops your lowest. Class is graded by class rank. Great guy, just over complicates things.
Very astonishing teacher in the fact that during this tough time during covid, he has the audacity to give a student with an 93 Average a B- in the class. A very understanding teacher who is in love with class rank and really understands how grades should work . 10/10 on the grading policy. Usually sends emails saying he wont answer emails
Show up and participate and you'll get an A in Eco Law, my favorite teacher at Albany
I had microeconomics online this semester and the class was asynchronous. Overall, it was an easy class; homework was due online every Sunday and there was a quiz every Wednesday. As long as you listen to the lectures, complete the homework, and practice quizzes before the quiz and you'll be fine.
Homework due on MindTap every week and then quizzes online. One final exam, no other tests. People didn't show up to class much because it wasn't mandatory but he's actually a fantastic teacher and you'll stay engaged for the whole 80 minutes. It's impressive how passionately he talks about econ, I had a great experience learning from him!
He's ok. He doesn't explain things that well. If you don't have to take him, choose a different professor.
ECO 111 is one of the easiest classes I have taken so far. The only thing you'll have to do for this class is a Quiz and an HW weekly. He doesn't take attendance but lectures are interesting.
He is a very nice professor, not way too strict and very clear about his expectations. So it is not hard to do well in this class, you just have to do the hws and you would be good, a pretty easy A if you do everything.
He teaches by reading the slides, chapter summaries in the lectures, but it's hard to focus since he just goes on and on. However, he is really nice the class and work is manageable and hes organized only con I have is that you need to teach yourself to pass if you lose focus fast and are more of a kinesthetic learner. GO TO TUTORING!!
Bulko is very nice and his homework is super easy. Good to take as an elective, Midterm was lowkey hard but the quizzes he gives online makes up for it and homework is super easy too. He responds right away and cares about his students. HIs lectures can be boring though.
Quite possibly the most boring an incomprehensible prof I've ever had Spends more time talking about history than the lecture slides, and his lectures have absolutely no relevance to the quizzes and homework. All the quiz/homework material is straight from the textbook and his lectures consist of 1.5 hours of meaningless rambling about news and WW2
Professor Bulko is great! The subject matter isn't the most interesting, but he does a great job of relating it to things happening in the world which makes it so much better! He really cares about his students and if you tell him your name once, he'll remember you for the rest of the semester. The midterm & final are hard but he curves the class
Bulko is understanding & would extend deadlines but the class drags and you will honestly have to teach yourself. There is no point in going to class. The class itself consists of weekly mind taps, 10 question quizzes(online), an in person midterm & final. He drops your lowest mind tap & quiz. If you want to get through this class get chegg
He was alright, but what he often taught us had nothing to do with the homework or quizzes. The average for the midterm and final was in the 50s, so I'd suggest reading over the practice exams he gives you to study. He's interesting to listen to, but be ready to put in a lot of work that he won't put in for you.
Great guy class was challenging in a rewarding way.
Fairly easy class, lectures aren't all that important. Do the mindtaps and study for the tests and you'll be fine. Need to buy MindTap, buy cengage unlimited and take ECN 111 + Stats (AMAT 108) next semester to make it worth.
Need to buy Cengage for submitting homework (recommend unlimited version). Posts class slides online. The final is cumulative. Equation heavy. Homework and quizzes every week. He knows his stuff but lectures are beyond boring. While attendance isn't required he gives out quiz answers during class. Drops the lowest quiz and homework grades.
Got a 67 for midterm (10%) & a 72 for final (30%), still passed with an A-. Just get 100s on all the HW/quizzes (easy & online) & you will pass. He curves the class since the median is always in the 50s on his midterm & final. I literally only went to class the first day & then never again. Review his slides/chapters to study. Drops lowest HW/quiz
Read the syllabus for 2 extra points! His lectures are boring and you have to teach yourself on mind tap, but the class is still decently fair. He's very good on adjusting deadlines when need be. You don't need a textbook but mind tap is REQUIRED, make sure to buy a year if you are gonna take ECO 111.
Dr. Bulko is a man who is truly passionate about what he teaches. Lectures can get boring at times, but his powerpoints are simple and easy to understand. Homeworks and online quizzes each week, and he drops the lowest HW and Quiz at the end of the semester. HWs take maybe an hour a week, and his tests are very fair. Great professor to go for help.
Lectures seemed to drag on sometimes but Dr. B tried his best to make the material engaging. Weekly mindtaps and quizzes helped me keep up with the content. Occasionally, I felt like I was teaching myself the material because there were certain things he didn't cover or go over in depth.
Lectures are boring but not mandatory. He is a good professor and cares about the students that care about the class and make an effort.
Very very likable guy. Only went to a handful of his lectures. Everything is posted online. Quizzes are online, just study for the 50Q multiple choice midterm and the 50Q (or 40) multiple choice final. Very accessible, extremely nice. Hope the best for this guy
Weekly online hw and quiz. Grades are only made up of these and two exams. Exam average is always 50%, more or less so make sure the hw and quizzes are 100s. Taking AECO111 rn, nobody shows up. He's a great professor.
Worst class of my life. Would not recommend this class to anyone. Ken as a person is funny but as a professor is awful. do not expect to do well in this class, the midterm average was 55. I do not understand how it can be so low and he feels he is doing a good job teaching. the homework and quizzes are a little tough but fair. DO. NOT. TAKE.
Hard 10 question quiz weekly that covers some topics that are missed. I once had a question on why one of the quiz answers I chose was wrong and emailed him. He responded "were you in class when we discussed this". I responded yes I went to every lecture and repeated my question. He responded with "we discussed this in class". Never got my answer.
Main problem is he doesn't use any questions from the $160 textbook. He makes up all the questions on his own with no explanation. Lectures are boring and he goes off topic often. HW and Quiz aren't too bad just get 100% on those. Midterm class avg was failing yet he sees no issue with his teaching lol. Overall bad professor good class. Waste of160
Overall, a mediocre class. The lectures are usually boring and hard to follow, and it's difficult to teach yourself the material from the lecture slides. Just do well on the quizzes and midtaps (you do them online) and you'll be ok.
Lots of homework, there's a mindtap assignment due almost every weekend, there are weekly quizzes, and two in person exams (midterm and final). Ken doesn't offer any extra credit and doesn't curve whatsoever. My class got a 60% average on the final and he said he didn't feel the need to curve which is complete bs.
Big lectures that nobody really attends with weekly mindtap homeworks and quizzes (drops lowest of each). Midterm is only worth 10% but if you don't do well on the final you won't do well in the class. His lectures are boring and you won't really learn much which stinks because it's basically the foundation of economics.
Easy A if you take Bulko and do your hw
very nice, class is super easy if you put the work in
Good, funny guy, but a super difficult professor. Does not believe in helping students do well one bit. If you maybe missed a question, and ask him afterwards, he gets mad and gives you a snappy response. Does not curve one bit, even tho half of the class tends to do awful on every assignment.
NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND!
Ken is not a good professor. He is sarcastic and he does not teach well. He mostly reads off the slides and ends class an hour early. If this class is required for your major, take it with a different professor if you really want to learn and do well. To learn anything in this class you need to learn everything on your own. He doesn't curve either.
Ken is a good guy but not the best professor.Your grade comprises of weekly mindtap homework and quizzes and a midterm and final. The midterm is worth 10% the final is worth 30% and the average grade for both is about a 60%. Beaware he doesn't curve the final or midterm.Just do well on all the homework and quizzes and you will be ok.
Very possible to do well if you put in the work. Class consisted of weekly mind tap homework (30%), weekly 10 question online quizzes (30%), midterm (10%), and final (30%). He drops the lowest mind tap and quiz. I'm purposefully taking AECO 111 with him next semester. Only annoying thing is needing to buy the mind tap system.
Not a terrible professor, but you have to teach yourself most of the material; I will say he is passionate about his work and does kind of have a fun way of explaining things. Just stay ahead on your work and set reminders for weekly online tests.
Ken's class can be challenging, but using study tools like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook can really help. Stay on top of the regular quizzes and assignments, and you'll do well despite the tough exams. It's worth the effort if you engage with the material.
I didn't like him as a professor. One time, I cried during office hours, and when I said I was stressed, he said Latinas are very emotional, but that's okay. I love Latinas which felt inappropriate. When I requested DIAS accommodations, he questioned my GPA, implying I didn't earn it. I developed anxiety, nightmares, and vomited before quizzes.
his final looks absolutely nothing like anything he teaches. He was happy that this semester's average was a 65 on it because it was so much better than other semesters.... lectures are boring, slides hard to follow, quiz & hw all online so easy to do. Midterm and Final in person and they're both very different from in class work.
Ken is a great guy but his class is so boring.Grade is made up of weekly homeworks and quizzes and a midterm and a final.Going to class did not help but he postes the slides which is alk you really need to pass.If you do well on all the homeworks and quizzes you will be fine.
