Intro to philosphy was a great class when prof. Burak taught it. I took it once before with another teacher and had to withdrawl because this other teacher was difficult to understand. But Prof. Burak is excellent. The class was challenging but at the same time easy to understand as long as you kept up with the material!
Good class if u stay interested in it. He really gives you a different way of looking at things. Awesome perspective on everything!!
I totally admire prof. Burak's passion for knowledge. This is one professor I will always remember. Not the best teacher (yet) but most definitely a great person.
awesome discussions!
I truly admire this professor. The discussions that we had in class has enlightened me and has generated a new way to look and think about any given topic.
He's hard because he only teaches verbally and everyone doesn't learn like this, at lease I don't. I need visuals and hands on stuff. Maybe a homework assignment or two just to make sure you understand what's being taught in class. Possibly more organized notes! Not just a paper given to you that leaves you clueless on how to do it.
Great enthusiasum and knowledge for the subject. The subject little dry and boring at time, and no structure to the class what-so-ever, but fun discussions, and very easy grader, even though he doesnt really have guidelines. Gets off subject very easily and is very liberal about politics. I liked him and enjoyed the class.
great knowledge but only sees one side of an arguement, needs to be enlightened by people who can see both sides
By far the greatest teacher I have had throughout the duration of my college career. I transferred out of NACC to Lehigh University and continued taking Philosophy at Lehigh; however, none of the professors at Lehigh even compare to Dr. Burak. Sad but true that you can get a better education from NACC than Lehigh. Anyways, Dr. Burak is the best!!!!
take his class you never had a cool ass teacher like this.
He is a very deep individual. I love him already! He is so freakin' cool. No textbook is required except the booklet he gives you. You must take this professor!
"imagine this room is a giant hybrid camel dishwasher, flying through space at the speed of poptart...." was priceless! One of my best professors ever!
He's absolutely great! "Trying to find enlightenment through the mind is like trying to purify your water with a hammer." His class is massively entertaining and he's a very intelligent individual. There's something about it that makes you feel like you've been sheltered all your life, and yet somehow, empowered. Take the class. Its worth your time
Ken is oblivious of the impact he has on his student's lives, particulary those of the Honors program. As a person, he is everything I aspire to be and it is an incredible feeling to know someone truly cares about our academic needs. The advice he has given me is something I will always carry with me on my pursuit of higher education.
I really enjoyed trekking through the woods, swimming across rivers, and meditating on fallen trees all the while reaching enlightenment.
awsome professor definatly take him!
definatly a good philosophy teacher
its amazing how he doesn't take attendance and yet so mang people still come. hes such a good philopsher and he really makes you think!
Ken definitely has his favorites and I don't think I was one of them, but his class was mostly hilarious, informative, and enjoyable. Just don't let him have sugar.
Not a good teacher. Has his favorites. Don't take him.
Great teacher. He's a bit of a whack job, but thats why I love him. He now has a very strict attendance policy and will try to get you expelled if you plagiarize so keep that in mind..
tries to scare you at first but then he warms up. gives a lot of insightful information. he's wacky but a good teacher!
Take him before you leave NCC. You won't regret it. You'll never have another experience like the one you get in a classroom with Ken (and that's a good thing). He's extremely passionate about philosophy and the success and well-being of his students. Amazing person and professor.
awesome class. changes your prospective.
Dedicated to knowledge but very scattered as a professor. Late to class; materials disorganized. Promotes interesting discussion at times - but this sometimes seems like a filler for lack of structure to the course.
My absolute favourite professor. His methods are kind of random but Philosophy isn't exact. He promotes free-thinking, which makes for a lot of angry people who must have "Structure" to function properly. But if you have a brain at all, you'll be fine.
this dude can teachhhhhh
Great teacher, very interesting subjects, easy work as long as you do it. :) Enjoyable class.
Ken is a great teacher! I recommend everyone taking this class before you leave. It is my favorite class that I have ever taken.
puts everything into place in my world
WOW. What a class. Such a cool Professor. I'm not the same person I was when I walked onto the grassy node that first day. A MUST take Professor for NCC students, he will complete your community college experience!!
awesome class, awesome teacher. I love his dedication to making the class take part in the discussions.
He is a great proffesor. But you need to stay off your cell while in class!!! And you should attend class if you want to know how to write your 3 papers. No test are given, just 3 papers are due. He is so nice he even gives you your own text book free! And he hates cheaters! Great class, you learn some cool stuff. If your a good student, he will help you get into the honors program at NCC
I had him for a summer course in philosophy at Lehigh U. His course is an easy A, so I definitely recommend it. He loves having class outdoors. He likes to typically go off topic a lot and talk about random things, but he is very dedicated to his teachings. 3 sort essays based on class discussions (so don't be absent), no exams and no homework's.
Dr. Burak is an amazing philosopher and makes it fun. Did not know what to expect, was just taking the class to fulfill a requirement and now he is the reason I am graduating college with a degree in Philosophy
The best teacher I have ever had...PERIOD!!! I thought the days of "fun" learning were gone but Ken resurrected those ****es!!!
Hes an awesome professor who really gets his students involved in the class and brings up interesting topics for discussion. Before I took intro to philosophy a really tough class to get through because it would be so boring. But it turned out to be the best class I've taken at NCC. I highly recommend taking a class with ken.
Hands down, best class I've ever taken and best professor I've ever had. I looked forward to going to class. Dr. Burak is a very interesting and eccentric professor. If you need any gen courses, take a class of his, you will not regret it.
KEN IS THE BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD!!! He really knows what he's talking about and words things so well that I understand everything! TAKE HIS CLASS. Seriously makes me think about things outside of class and I'm a totally different person. Awesome class.
Ken is a fabulous teacher. He's funny, provocative, and insightful. His intro class is amazing and definitely worth taking. The class isn't really about getting a good grade, it's about self-discovery, and I can guarantee you won't find that in any other class. If you care about yourself, you should take this class.
Ken is definitely one of a kind. I had an amazing experience in his class like many others. There are three take-home essays you need to do, but that's all. No homework and attendance isn't required, but class was always fun, so I rarely ever skipped. Definitely one of my favorite professors. I'd recommend him highly to anyone.
Prof Burak is one of the many great teachers who will be acknowledged for his insight and passion to teach. His assignments weren't difficult, they were just useful for the present, future, and referring to the past which is rare in most classes. An easy A but the A is way more than what you may expect. His class is eye- opening and very necessary!
Ken's awesome, loved the fact he got the class thinking critically about capitalism right from the start.
Dude changed my life. Take this class and learn so much about yourself and the world around you.
Pretty lame class overall. Started out pretty cool but as it progressed it turned to total BS. Like, "do I exist or not?" What? Anyway, I was very interested prior to this class and now I hate Philosophy. Lost all motivation halfway through, ended up failing the class. Prof. Burak is a really cool guy, but I wouldn't take him again. Overall, 4/10
Ken isn't only an amazing teacher, he's an amazing person. Everyone should have to take his class.
Amazing class, take him if you have the opportunity.
At first you'll think ken is completely insane, but by the end of the class you'll find that the man is a genius. Life changing teacher and class!
As it's been said, I had thought upon the first couple days, that he's crazy, but after a while, I have to say he IS an amazing guy and an amazing professor, and while I don't subscribe to his political views, it is a FANTASTIC honor to be in his class this semester. I will NOT regret having enrolled in his class. The best.
Class totally changed my life. I really had an amazing time. I wished it hadn't ended as quickly as it seemed to. Don't just take the class because you think it'll be easy, but because you genuinely want to learn. And I didn't mind looking at him, he's hot for 40!
I was going to drop the class at first cause I thought Dr. Ken was insane. But after a few days it quickly became my favorite class. He challenges your thinking on every level and makes you question a lot. I talked with him one on one several times and I was blown away by his intelligence and views. Take his class. Also there is no textbook!
He's a really smart guy. Makes you see things in a whole different light. Would highly recommend taking his class.
life changing.
Wonderful professor. He really helped me to think more philosophically, and his class was quite enjoyable. Only think I did not like is that he wants you to tell your thoughts on certain things. This I do not like, because it is a bit out of my personal comfort zone. I'd rather say it all in the papers. But besides that, the class is great!
Great class. I registered for Phil001 looking for some easy credits but it quickly became my favorite class. Prof. Burak is by far the best professor I've had in my 2 years at Lehigh and his class is interesting and dare I say, fun. I could honestly sit and listen to this guy talk for hours about nothing at all and still be interested.
I would recommend Professor Burak to any student he is the best, if your having any problems with grading speak with him, he is the type of teacher that would uplift you and want to see you succeed, he plays no games and just come prepared to his class, tough grader butair
Best class I ever took. He doesn't take attendance but trust me you'll want to show up for class. His lectures are great and are lessons you'll actually use in life. It's amazing. Everyone should take his class.
Ken's classes changed my life. I highly recommend his classes to anyone who needs some perspective or anyone who just wants to have a good, genuine, human discussion. I don't recommend his classes to anyone who is just trying to get an easy A. He's a very passionate, down to earth person and deserves more from his students than that.
When it comes to philosophy Mr. Burak is the man!!!
One word: Awesome.
Two classes in and I absolutely love Professor Burak! He takes things into a deeper meaning and always has everyone's undivided attention. If you are planning on taking Ethic and Moral Problems, take it with Professor Burak.
I like Ken as a person and I do believe he has good intentions at heart, however, what he is teaching is not realty. It is his personal opinions on socialism and how capitalism is bad. A completely biased approach to the world. He uses metaphors that do not correlate with each other and constantly goes of on random tangents. Very far left. East A.
Ken is an awesome dude. He is always there to talk to and help you out. Listening to him speak is very inspirational and you will honestly look at life through a different lens after his class. He is a great professor and philosopher. Would recommend him hands down. We need more people like Ken in the world!
interesting dude to say the least.. easy a..
Just had Ken this semester. Hands down the funniest professor I have ever had. Definitely has thought provoking lectures that almost always have you leaving class thinking about life. I would take him again if I could. Very easy to pass, just show up and listen to the awesome, sometimes random thoughts he has.
Ken is amazing! Really inspirational and the class was more like a really long vacation where everything is so new and exciting then your last day comes and you wish it wasn't over, Ken helped me truly think deeply about the world and brought many new perspectives into view. I wish I can take this class again.
Ken is a breathtaking person. He is energetic, intelligent, sincere, hilarious, positive, and passionate about Philosophy. The semester flew by, but the impact remains timeless. I recommend that everybody take his class or even speak to him one on one. You won't regret it. Plus, he's also super cute and silly!
Ken is incredibly passionate, and has a lot of inspiring views on life. Listening to him talk about life was the best part of my day. He really wants you to think deeper and appreciate the world around you.
Ken is an awesome dude. He has some very pointed opinions about life, society, etc. Many of these perspectives I agree with, but all of them I respect. He's a fiery and impassioned dude. Definitely worth taking. I can credit him to being one of the people that really opened my mind and made me start questioning my own actions and perspectives.
He will change your life.
Mindbending teacher that will change your understanding of your life and the role you have in the world
This professor is amazing. Ken tries his best to not only teach you but also teach you how to answer simple questions beyond given a basic response.
Ken is the bomb and its a must to take his class if you are a student at NCC. However, the dude never mentions any prominent female philosophers or women's issues. Be prepared to actually think in order to earn his respect/a high grade.
I didnt feel as if I really learned much in his class. He is a great speaker but if you wanted to learn anything about the subject you would be at a lost. We had to write two five page papers but I felt like he didnt bother to read them. Hes an easy A but if you want to learn about the subject stay away.
There are no words I can use to describe this professor. Funny, caring, and encourages everyone to express their own opinions. Just show up, read some of the two inexpensive textbooks, and do well on the online exams.
I took his class because many said he would shake your vote values and help you think. I found his class too easy and nothing special was really said. He may be intelligent but the only highlight of the class was going outside under the pine trees. Easy A.
If Philosophy isn't for you, I still recommend you take this class anyway. Friendly, funny, and unforgettable lectures make him one of the best.
Best class I have ever had at NCC, highly recommend.
ken is honestly one of my favorite professor at NCC. he really makes you think about things differently. his class is not hard, but you do have to participate and communicate In the discussions in class.
Really funny guy. The lectures seem random but they inspire deep conversations about society today and how we can improve not just ourselves but the entirety of the world. It was not a class to me, it was a family. I recommend this class even if you don't need the credit. It was worth my time, and I came out of the class ready to take on the world.
Professor Burak is one the most unique professor's at NCC- he is intelligent, caring and hilarious. He presents intricate lectures each class & allows students to carry the conversation. It allows the class to not feel like a classroom environment but a true educational and welcoming environment. I genuinely will miss meeting everyday.
Professor Burak is incredibly nice, intelligent, & passionate. His class is BEYOND easy. His teaching methods are extremely unique which allows for a different & fun learning environment. We only had 2 assignments all semester: one was a paper about playing games & the other was on a movie. You learn so much but dont have to do a lot of work!
Listen up: Dr. Burak is one of the best this school has. Genuinely one of the best people I know. Do not pass up an opportunity to take a class with him. Beware for the introvert and kids who want a textbook philosophy lecture - his classes are anything but the norm. Games, pair/group conversations. 2 self-reflective papers. He values conversation.
Best Professor ever. Only 2 reflected papers for his class. He really cares about his students. I wish if I could take with him another class.
Ken is an amazing man, but horrible professor. I took him this semester for an online class and he just randomly decided to add a 2nd day of a 3 credit course (a violation of policy). Gives out a bunch of assignments that no one knows about. Curses ALL CLASS. Flips out if you have camera off.. save your time and money.
Ken is a great professor who pushes people out of their comfort zone, encourages interaction and pushes you to think outside of the box. The class may be intimidating to some who are shy or introverted, but his lectures are worth it. Very down to earth and friendly, makes his class extremely relatable and he's just a great, flexible professor.
I took Ken's classes twice and he is my favorite professor at NCC. He makes lectures entertaining and informational while allowing us to have a good laugh and creates a cooperative environment. Ken is compassionate when you have things going on in your personal life that affect school. Participate in lectures! He loves that! 10000/10 Recommend Ken!
Participate in class discussions. Pay attention to class lectures they will help when you have to write your papers. We had to write two reflection papers.
Whether you're taking philosophy bc it's mandatory or optional, he has to be one of the best out there. Assignments are not incredibly difficult but do require some deep thinking. (I mean duh, it's philosophy.) Go in with an open mind & I guarantee you'll come out at least a little bit of a changed person as long as you pay genuine attention.
Professor Burak was a very inspirational professor who made you dive deep in thought. His class is easy to follow and he applies a lot of what we learn into real life. Although he's laid back, make sure you follow along with assignments to fully grasp the content he is teaching.
He is not the most respectful of the time or schedule of the people taking his classes. He was habitually late. He missed class several times without a 24 hour notice. He seemed uninterested in encouraging open discussions among the class. He is a Philosophy Professor, though in this student's opinion, a poor example of a Philosophy teacher.
a second grader could pass this class, if you actually want to learn something do not choose him as your professor i learned nothing in this class, talks about ridiculous things and has you play ridiculous games (charades, etc...) overall you learn nothing and attending is a waste of time nothing he talks about has anything to do with assignments
I think this professor is great. He was so fun to have. He's really easy going. He does have a tendency to be barefoot, and he loves to bring the class outside. But honestly, I learned a lot. Not necessarily about all the topics we were supposed to cover but regardless. Fun class, fun guy, good time.
It's clear that Burak does not read student responses. I put legitimate effort in an argument and ask for discussion only to be met with a "Good job!". Don't expect anything aside from liberal ideas and arguments to respond to.
Overall Professor Burak is a laid back teacher. There aren't many assignments but the instructions are vry straight forward and are easy to complete.
Great vibe! loved listening very different take on certain things but by the end you are definitely thinking a lot! would take again!
I took this class to fulfill credits for graduation and am so glad I took it. The material was all relevant to my everyday life and thinking about the future. The Philosophy Show website was great and I actually took knowledge away from the assignments. I'd recommend this professor to any of my classmates.
I love Prof Ken! He's a fantastic professor & if you come to class with an open mind, you will take away so much from the class, even if you don't share all the same ideas & values as him. He has such a way of connecting topics in a way that's so profound. If you're one of the few who disliked his class, the call is coming from inside the house lol
Professor Burak's class is a refreshing take on philosophy. With minimal assignments but deep discussions, it pushes you to think outside the box. unstuck study was a lifesaver for prepping the occasional paper. Overall, a great class!
He was amazing! I came into class not thinking I would learn anything valuable, but I did. The course was really fun if you let yourself enjoy it. Just do the homework with effort,t and you'll get a good grade. I 100% would take him again.
Magnolia Pearl final boss
I took his class a semester or two ago, but I definitely took way more out of his class than I ever expected. Keep an open mind to his eccentricities and you will get so much out of his lectures. I wish more professors were as caring and passionate about their material as Ken is.
Ken is a very kind professor, but definitely very interesting. He curses a lot in classes and includes students a lot in conversations. He was not great at staying on topic most of the time, but he did make it interesting. There weren't a lot of assignments but when they were they were very easy to complete. Overall, not a bad class.
