Awesome Teacher!!!!
Very willing to help in any way possible. Very understanding and very fair.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome professor. He really has a unique gift to teach chemistry well...he's hand over heels above Dr. Pendarvis on that.
Dr. Capps is the best chem professor ever! I was not that interested in the subject until I took chem with him. He explained everything very well. I got an A!
I only needed .6 of a point to get a B and he gave me a C even tho I never missed a class (at 8am) and I turned in every assignent on time. Teaches well, but gives NOOO slack. Tests are difficult. Lab was great though.
He has a really boring sound to his voice, but he knows his stuff. And he knows it well. His tests aren't super easy, and you have to learn. You have to learn alot. Periodic table, variables...the works.
Good Professor. Assumes you have a good foundation in Chem so he goes fast in lecture. Doesn't spoonfeed like others, you'll have to read the book to do well! CHM2045 is extremely hard if you aren't GOOD at chemistry. Listen to the advisors this time, take Intro to Chem. first. There is too much material to just learn from scratch.
Awesome teacher, knows his stuff....homework assignments cover whats on the tests
Great prof. Makes a boring subject interesting. Very good at explaining concepts. Teaches everything needed for tests. Tests are very hard. You'll have to read the book in this class, but he will get you to learn chemistry.
He goes pretty fast through the chapters and the tests are hard, but if you keep up with him and study, you will do well in his class. He is a very nice guy, always willing to help. Over all, this class was good, and I would take Capps again.
makes the class interesting. the text is hard to comprehend, but dr. capps makes the chapters easier to understand with his powerpoints.
Dr. Capps is a great teacher. He is a very helpful and gives clear examples when he teaches.
Dr. Capps is the best thing that ever happened to chemistry students. I took him for Intro to CHM and CHM I & II. I was chemistry scared and dumb before Dr. Capps. Thanks to him, I have become quite confident with chemistry. He has great lectures, lots of practice problmes and worksheets, and his tests are fair. Just read the notes and practice!!!
I went into the class with no prior exp. and he helped when ever I had a question. His notes are very good, as long as you read and do practice problems you will breeze through.
What a relief! I had Dr. Pendarvis for Intro to Chem and also Chem I (which i flunked) and he was horrible!! Finally, someone referred me to Capps, and he is a great teacher! He ACTUALLY explains things unlike Pendarvis. I HIGHLY recommend Capps if you want to actually grasp chemistry.
Very good professor and is very smart
The best teacher I have ever had. Period.
Dr. Capps is really cool and approachable. I took him over the summer for Chem2 so I didn't have much study time. However, I would strongly recomend him. He gives out many worksheets to help. Just b/c he's nice doesn't mean you don't have to study. So study hard!
He really knows his subject.
Good teahcer- really nice and he REALLY knows his stuff, but there is just so much to cover that it is hard to comprehend it all. He is really organized and easy going
He is really good. Would def take him again. He explains it clear and answers any questions. Open office hours and encourages you to come in, very welcoming. I would definately recommend him.
Without a doubt, excellent and professional. Always available when help is needed, drops your lowest test, as well as he provides you with a study guide for each test. If you make good use of both his power point and study guide, you will be just fine. He is a true example of an ideal professor. Too bad he does not teach organic. Take him!!
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD AT CF. Very helpful, nice and easy to understand. he breaks it down so you can understand it. If you dont understand he will also help in anyway. He is very organized and mas many different ways to help you learn. I definitely taking him for Chem 2 w/ Lab. Recommend him for anyone who needs to take chemistry.
He is very difficult. If you are devoted to chemistry only, take him. However, if you have a life outside of school, take it alone, over the summer, or with someone else. If you are looking for an A, look elsewhere.

Dr Capps is a difficult professor Truthfully, I hated him for two semesters, but only because he made me work so hard to try and get an A. He really knows his stuff and can make it easier to understand. Take him, you won't regret it..
Taking his Chem class online. Prof Capps is very helpful. I failed Chemistry in HS and was frankly terrified of taking this class. Prof Capps has made Chemistry stick in my head ! I actually "get it". Test/ quiz are mod hard. Just study !
Best professor i have had. In years i most certainly will take him for further classes.
I did not understand chemistry very well in high school and was afraid to take it in college. But when I took this class the notes and the book explained things in an interesting way. The video lectures and notes were helpful. The homework was based on the questions and problems in the book and handout and notes.
He is THE best teacher in the world. YOU WILL NOT REGRET TAKING HIM. Just like any class you have to put in thw work but it is SO much less than if you had a crap teacher. His teaching skills are supernatural! He is literally a genius and explains everything super clear. He made me love Chemistry and understand it! Just watch the lectures and study
This is a hard subject but he makes it really easy to understand. His teaching skills are amazing, very good professor. You need to apply yourself but I defiantly recommend him for sure!
WOW, amazing teacher. His teaching skills are incredible. By far my favorite teacher by far and I HATE chemistry. He should defiantly be teacher of the year. Can not say enough good things about this incredible teacher!!!! TAKE HIM!!!
I took this class online over the summer. It is a very hard course but Prof. Capps is excellent at "dumbing it down." I highly recommend him.
Dr. Capps is an extremely helpful and caring professor! He actually cares about his students learning the material and does anything he can to help. The format of the course is very organized and gives you a very fair opportunity to earn an A! Highly recommended!
This professor did not care for the online students. He refused to help and his reviews weren't clear. I even missed a quiz due to my children being really sick and even though I had doctor's notes he still wouldn't let me make it up. This caused me to get my only B at CF. He was rude to me, he doesn't care about his students period.
By no means is Chemistry an easy subject. So taking this class online made me a bit nervous. Ken Capps's online videos help out along with the notes provided. Inwont take another online chem. class again. I struggled a B.
Chemistry is my weakest subject in school. Actually, before taking this class, I withdrew from a previous Chem class with a different professor because I was failing. I was scared to take this class online, but Dr. Capps explains everything crystal clear and was always there if I needed help. I studied hard, and earned an A. Highly recommend.
He assigns 3 lecture videos that are an hour long each a week. If his class is the only class you are taking and you're unemployed, this class might be for you. I can't stress enough to watch due dates. He schedules the final exam on a day you didn't sign up for, and then if your other classes conflict, oh well, its your fault. I could have had a C
The lectures are split into Part 1 and Part 2 for each chapter about 40minutes -1 hour long each. Lectures are very informative, and usually pretty interesting, and a definite necessity to passing the homework assigned. Only 4 tests, all completely online. I would recommend him if you've struggled with chemistry in the past. Hard work, but helpful

Prof. Capps is a great chemistry teacher! Just have some basic algebra skills and take notes. Pay attention to the lectures and work along side the lectures with the provided lecture notes and you should do fine. Lots of conversions that get tricky. If you are good in math, you don't need to worry. Even if you are not great in math, he will help.
Dr. Capps is very direct. He teaches what you need to know, but expects that you have read the text, and are able to follow along with him. Lecture schedule is very strict, if you need help see him during office hours. Very good teacher. Homework quizzes online, (4) tests taken in class.
longboring lecture videos. grades are final.
I honestly do not have enough space to state all of the positive aspects of this professor. He is truly an amazing teacher and cares greatly of his students. I took him for intro to chemistry and this was my first chemistry class since high school. He made it absolutely painless and was willing to help all the time. Has helpful teaching videos.
Well first off I think he is all around a decent instructor. The problem with this class is it is very book based, so if you have trouble understanding the book, too bad. The reviews are not like the tests, and the material taught in class isn't always the same as the homework. Grading is tough, and the class is very time consuming.
Lectures can be hard to sit through, but well worth it! He explains things very well. His tests and quizzes are difficult but its worth the work if you plan on taking CHM2045 next. His class with definitely prepare you for your next Chemistry class or lab.
Dr. Capps is straight forward in lectures. From day one, he lets students know what is expected of them. There's a lot of homework and quizzes. If you keep up on the days and don't forget them you should be fine. Also, tests are worth 70% of your grade. Do well on tests, textbook isn't necessary, and keep up with the homework and you should be fine
Your grades are final so don't ask him. He says this yet people will ask. His class is fast paced on a potentially hard to understand subject. He's a nice guy that will help you though. The homework can be tough and is worth more than quizzes so be diligent. Be decent at algebra and learn stoichiometry and to balance chemical equations like now.
Overall pretty decent class. Not good in chemistry but did well. He explains pretty well but goes fast. TAKE NOTES!!! Book is pretty much useless. He is not helpful outside of class but thankfully didn't need it. No cumulative final. Allows an index card of notes for tests. Get ready for clickers. They are usually easy but go fast
He is awesome! Currently in his Online Chemistry For Health Related Fields class (summer session) and he is just wonderful! He responds to my messages quickly and always makes sure to give extra websites and handouts for extra practice. He gives a decent amount of time to get your Homework and quizzes done. He does easy online lecture videos
Dr. Kapps is SUCH a great professor. I took the online CHM1032, and there was no textbook, just online lectures. Tests and quizzes were totally all online, no proctored tests which I loved. I've never been great at chemistry, but received an A in his class. He responds to emails very fast. Super organized and to the point. I really recommend him.
You won't pass if you don't have prior knowledge on chemistry. Its basically all math, and he does not teach. The whole class is him just putting up problems and solving them without explaining how. Test are 70% of your grade, and he won't round up even if you're .3% away from the next grade.
Dr. Capps has become one of my favorite professors at CF. His style of teaching appealed to me as he's straightforward and likes questions. He will teach you well before continuing if you're confused. Lectures go by quick, videos are entertaining and I'm gutted he doesn't teach Chem 1 next semester! :(
Mr. Capps was easily the most thorough teacher I've had in college so far. He explains all of the material in a way anybody would understand it. Great teacher, would definitely take again.
DR. Capps is pretty straight forward. He is very strict to his structure and does not round any grades. He does give plenty of material to prepare but all assignments will count towards your grade only the homework is allowed for 2 attempts and will rounded. But his powerpoints make it very easy to follow. You can work out the problems as he does.
Awesome Professor. His lectures are clear and to the point. He gives plenty of examples and has notes that are straight forward. There were only four tests and they count for a lot of your grade, but he allowed a flashcard of notes for every test. Wish he was teaching Chem 1!
Gives you everything you need to get an A. Lectures are clear & included good examples. I liked being able to play them over. Drops the lowest homework, quiz, and test grade. No need to get expensive textbook because he provides pdf's. Assignments are short and manageable. Responded to my email questions quickly. I highly recommend this professor.
Quizzes on each chapter but are online in an online class. There are papers and TED talks, but nothing too heavy. A great class to take during a semester with heavy courses. Grading was timely, and each week he gave an update. Overall great professor.
He is not a great teacher and has zero care for his students. His online class is the worst. He lectures and always gets off topic and it gets confusing. You easily loose track of what he says. he is very strict and will not let you make up anything even if sick dealing with family issues. Very disappointed in his teaching and practices
This is a bit of a difficult class, more for summer. He's very knowledgeable and focuses his recorded lectures on problem-solving. Homework & tests often have long/trick problems that make you really think/work for the grade. Reading from the book does really help, though not necessary. Lastly, this is not a fake review by the professor himself.
I am just finishing his summer CHM1032 class online. He is overall a good teacher. I wish his lectures were a little more lively though. This is probably one of, if not the hardest class I have ever taken. Very math heavy in the beginning. Finally in the last week we are going over the medical application. You will have to work to earn an "A!"
I had him over the summer and it wasnt all that bad for 6 weeks. His lectures are really good, some a bit confusing like redoxs and stuff, but self studying doesnt hurt. As long as you do the notes, follow what he does, practice, youll be fine. He allows you to use your notes on the test & quizzes, so theres its really hard for you to fail.
Honestly, I wished he taught all the chemistry classes that I have to take. I enjoyed his class over the summer, where it was easy and straight forward. If you did the notes, did what he did, took time to learn, it was easy. Plus, he allowed you to use your own notes, you only fail if you don't try,
Ken Capps teach and have a good lecture, however, he doesn't drop the lowest test score and quiz. his test are hard. If you need an A don't take him one of the reason is because he doesn't give extra credit or round your score if you got 89.85.
He goes so fast, you can't even keep up. He mentions many times that "We don't need to cover this because it's pretty easy." But in reality, no one knows it because this is an intro class. He skips chapters and tells you to read them on your own. I had a 4.0 GPA before taking him. You Can study hours for tests and still fail his tests
I took Mr. Capps for an online chemistry course. Although it is a lot of online work, he makes everything make perfect sense in his Online lectures. Hes very fair at grading, and one of the most prompt and organized teachers I have had so far. I definitely recommend him for chemistry.
Dr Capps is one of the best professors I have had in my college career. Extremely organized with all due dates outlined from the beginning. He uploads links to lectures and if you watch them and take notes on the provided slides, you don't even really need to read the textbook. Graded on discussion posts, homework, quizzes, 4 tests and no final.
No late assignments. I was 2 hrs late on a dis. post which was an accident. My dad was ill after being in hospital so I was caring for him so I had been stressed out & completely confused the due date, so I messaged him to apologize t him know what was going on. He never responded to my email and still took points off. Very uncompassionate.
Do not submit work late, even if it is an emergency or illness. A lot of weekly chapter/chapter's reading and quizzes/quizzes. Some material on the quizzes are not worded for easy understanding of relation of the material read. 4 papers on TED talks. Final consists of a book review that you need to start reading at the beginning of the course.
All the chapters had videos with notes, so students could watch and fill in notes alongside him. He actually explained things very well. I struggled with Chemistry in high school, but everything clicked while taking his class! All the problems in tests are gone over in the lectures. Didn't even crack the textbook open due to his awesome lectures.
I took this class online and it was GREAT. I hated chemistry in high school because I could never understand it. This class made me enjoy it! Youtube lectures are very easy to follow, I was able to go back and rewatch as many times as needed. Very organized class, no surprises. I just enrolled myself into another one of his classes! 10/10
He basically had us read a chapter or 2 every week, taking a quiz and either doing a writing assignment or discussion board. He isn't the friendliest man on Earth, that's for sure. He is not flexible with deadlines, even if you're a state-qualifying weightlifter.
Very easy course to pass. Obviously dont bother sending anything in late but if you wanted to complete this entire chemistry course in a week you probably could! Very straightforward all the assignments are there along with dates. No surprises. This is exactly how an online course should be taught!!! Perfect.
Honestly I'm kicking myself not signing up for his other chem classes sooner before they filled up. He is very up front about everything, speaks clear and concise, and homework/tests follow exactly what he teaches in his lecture videos. There are no surprises. Very strict deadlines, but gives you 2 chances to do hw and takes average grade
Id really recommend taking this professor. His in person lectures are very informative and clear, and if you need to review, he posts online lectures as well. Hes strict with deadlines but if you can pace yourself his class isnt hard. Ill be taking any other classes I can with him.
I had an issue with getting my books on time. He didnt grant me an extension for my first weeks assignments (with absolutely zero kindness, he started off telling me I shouldve already had my book, DUH) and was completely unforgiving. As a non science major I was floored by his lack of compassion. Especially as I am an A student w a disability.
I took chemistry online which is a hard thing to do in itself, but he made it pretty easy. He drops your lowest grade of each category (HW, quiz, and test) except discussion posts which are very simple and an easy 100%. There are lecture videos and they are very long, but also helpful, so it is kind of a double-edged sword, but still take him.
The class itself is basic. Online pre-recorded lectures and weekly quizzes and homework. 4 tests total. The only thing I did not enjoy was the structure of the lectures simply because it is hard for me to learn through videos. The class is easy as long as you don't mind videos. Be sure to learn Stoichiometry because you will struggle if you don't
He is really good
Doesnt care about students, I emailed him while I was sick at home and asked if I could take the test next week when I wasnt sick and said I dont think you ever intended on coming to class today. Overall not a good experience and not a very good teacher.
Good professor. The class was not hard. Lectures were youtube videos.
prof Capps was a fair professor. There's 4 tests which were not cumulative so there wasn't really a "final." on all tests you can bring a piece of paper front and back of whatever you want written. There was homework for every chapter with 2 attempts (same questions). If you miss a class, he has videos and notes posted, weird office hours times
This is an asynchronous class. Prof Capps is well organized and has clear grading criteria and lectures. Lectures are pre-recorded youtube videos uploaded into the modules. Textbook is required for readings and practice problems but they're not graded. Open note quizzes and tests Office hours were via email and one day on campus. He's great!
I really enjoyed Professor Capps' class! He requires a textbook but you can get away without it. He tells you to read a chapter and take notes but he creates notes himself that you can look at and he records lectures. He also gives you practice problems and you get 2 tries on the homework. He's awesome and pretty easy as long as you do your work!
Chemistry is a tough subject, Professor Capps did an "okay" job of teaching. There were a lot of topics discussed in his lectures each week, which became overwhelming. Homework, quizzes, and tests were graded mainly on one topic, often the hardest one too.
Professor Capps is an amazing teacher. I would definitely take him again
There were no lectures in this class, ONLY youtube videos that anyone can access. There were no examples to show how to do the homework and I never even heard his voice the entire class. Google goes a long way and it was so difficult to understand the homework. All this class consisted of was homework, quizzes, and tests. I need lectures to learn.
This class has easy assignments with a big book review at the end. The great thing about the written assignments is that he grades easily on them. The only complaint I have about Professor Capps is that he ONLY leaves negative feedback on your work, never positive or anything.
The online videos of him teaching worked very well if you take notes about them and follow along. The practice problems done during the lectures proved helpful during quizzes and tests. Allows for 2 retries on homework assignments which was quite nice.
The professor goes fast and doesn't give you enough grace period to copy what is on the board. He is not considerate of student's feelings as one time I was 5 minutes late to his class due to car issues and he proceeds to call me out in front of the entire class saying "always late," when in reality I was only late once, felt some racism.
Professor Capps is honestly one of the best chemistry professors I have taken, his lectures are very clear, he explains things very simply and breaks them down in a way that everyone will understand what he is saying. If you struggle with chemistry, take this professor.
This was my first-time taking chemistry and I did just fine in his class. He'll answer any questions you have about the hw and quizzes and has videos to go back and review the topic. Be sure to review most of the material he provides so you're not surprised on tests. There also wasn't a lot of work. Consisted mostly of hw and a few quizzes.
Took this class online it was super easy. Highly recommend taking Professor Capps.
1 HW and Q/week. Test every 2-4 weeks. Textbook is NOT mandatory -didn't read it once. Quizzes reuse 70%+ of homework questions. QZ = 10%, HW = 20%, DF = 10%, Test = 60%. lowest HW and Q dropped, but no test. CLEPED intro chem and finished this course nearly effortlessly around mid-semester. No midterm or final. Longest email reply was 2 sentences.
He was good, he posts lectures on Canvas and adds material used for that class. He recommends reading the book, but the textbook is not used in class. He can be confusing because he assumes everyone knows what he is talking about even though it is intro to chem. Most homeworks+quizzes are on Quizlet. Tests are weighed 70%. Ask Questions!Good teachr
Professor Capps is great - his lectures are clear and he explains topics well. Use the online videos, practice problems, and unstuckstudy to do well. Not too much work, just stay on top of it.
Definitely recommend his in person courses over his online courses. Be sure to ask questions, he can go a little fast (at least for me) but he is a good teacher and will answer questions. I recommend the book but you can get along without it if you cant get one, but it is required and highly recommended, just not used in class. Tests are worth 70%!
Great professor, a lot of the subjects he teach are filled with a ton of content but I think he makes it easy. His lectures are clear. I took him online and felt like his introduction and criteria were very clear. Only thing is! Don't be late on anything because there is 0 leeway. No extensions, no excuses, etc.
He's a good teacher, not a very nice person. He'll call you out if your late, even if just a few minutes. I had to make up a test in his class, and while he let me, he was immediately hostile when I asked. That left me feeling really awful, cause I missed the test after I was hospitalized. No compassion
Chemistry is a tough subject. I was super nervous to have it online, but Professor Capps was an amazing teacher! His explanations were clear, and he went over tons of example problems in his lectures so that the material was easier to master. I definitely had to put in a lot of effort, but it felt like time well spent.
Not compassionate, to everyone in the future thinking of taking his class please understand that he doesn't care if you are hospitalized or not, if you miss a test you miss a test. He will give attitude too. Short response when emailed and completely dismissed my question and even came to a point of no response. Easy class, not so nice teacher.
This online class was pretty easy. There is a quiz each chapter, not timed, 20 questions. They can take a while. The final is a 1000 word book report but it was easy to get an A on it. There are a couple writing assignments but you never write more than a couple paragraphs. Would recommend this teacher and would take this class again.
Professor Capps is top notch. I took the class online. Everything was organized and the expectations were clear. He responds quickly to emails if you need to reach out. He provides a lot of resources to help you complete your homework and other assignments. I would still recommend purchasing the textbook. There are a lot of quizzes in my opinion.
Great professor! I wish I could take him for every science course I need for my AA. He is clear I. What he expects. There isn't a ton of work, but stay on top of your reading and assignments so you don't get behind. He's easy to contact if you have any issues. Attendance is taken in the first few days of class, so beware of that.
Professor Capps gave multiple resources for practice before tests. His recorded lectures were almost an hour long and fairly easy to understand. He would also require you to interact with students through discussion posts, which helped me understand and teach concepts I struggled with. There was lot of material to take in. Does not do grade rounds!
He gives no extensions on any assignment, regardless of anything. Heartless and generally just not a good professor. He does the bare minimum and doesn't even post his own lecture videos; he just has links from YouTube attached and text. He doesn't teach, and when you reach out by email, his emails are always passive-aggressive and frankly rude.
