The test are quite easy. Make sure to have a lot of explainations on your tests. Bad on grading!
If your looking to take physics look no further than Cheney, easy exams 80% of question identical to practice test, more extra credit than anyone good/funny lecture also most of his sample problems reminds you of a cartoon you've seen.
He is a great instructor and not like the others teaching physics who autodescribe as good. Very patient, clear and funny.
The worst teacher I ever seen in my life. Offer no help to students. No qualify to be teaching at all. He sucks
Nice instructor, he has the heart to teach. Dont blame if u dont know how to do the stupid labs, coz they aint hard. By the way, easy tests, good grade for the class.
Bad lecture, bad lab, but tests are quite easy. He is probably the easiest physics teacher in PCC's physics department(except Dr. Liu). If u just simply want good grade, take him.
He's pretty funny. Plus he gives out extra credit so if you lost some points on some assignment, you can just make it back up.
THE WORST MOST IMMATURE TEACHER EVER!!
don't ever take his classes, very outdated teaching style, treats his class like they are little kids, if you want to learn anything stay away, if you want an easy easy easy A take his class. Overall empty of any kind of real intelligence.

good teacher
terrible, not clear can learn nothing???
he seems hard at first, but by the end of the semester, he gets nicer. ppl who thinks he is a bad teacher, just forgive him, because he is an old man! afterall, he is an okay teacher and compare with the rest of the phy teacher at PCC, he is the easiest!
Totally learn nothing, most of time you ask a question about lab,he just tells you go do it again. He tells you nothing but request a "perfect" lab report. I get confused all the time.

He is very good teacher.
PCC has good Physics department.
Great teacher. his class is taylored to those who want to learn. if you are involved in his lectures you get extra credit. his tests are about physics, not about proving how much smarter he is than you! Labs are tough. Easy A for the average student.
a guy who shoulda retired 10 yrs ago
he speaks softly like a the voice of a mosquito flying!~ he sucks anywayz!~
terribe, forget about MIT when u take him u will get poor grade/ learn nothing. speaks too softly and scribbles on board tests are EXtremely hard because of this should have retired in 1988!!!
Test questions usually appear from his lectures so pay attention.Make sure you give detailed explanations on test for full credit. PLENTY of extra credit opportunity. If available, don't depend on optional final to bail you out, very difficult optinal final
A great teacher if you pay attention. Very nice and funny
Verrry easy class because of all the extra credits. He does teach well and most of the test questions are almost the same as lecture examples and practice tests. Not a good lab. u have to redo everything until perfect. lots of people just made up data
lots of work, but if you do them all you will get an A
He is such a sweet professor. He really wants you to do well in his class. You can literally bump up your grade one full letter grade with all the extra credit he offers. I learned a LOT in his class about physics, astronomy and a bunch of JPL stuff. Take him if you want to do well!
this teacher is very hard in lab, however his lecture test are pretty easy....
wtf, u can never get out of his lab before sunset. he keeps bugging u w/ no obvious reasons. certainly ur spirit will be dried up of his nonsense
Horrible Horrible professor! Doesn't seem willing to help you when you are in trouble! Always put me down when I went to his office hour!
great professor. Easy tests. but don't like his personality.
OK.. You will NEVER understand his lecture. BUT if you dont understand, ask him and he will most likely to answer. It is really upto you, and if u are interested in physics like me, you will understand all the things he lectures. He is crazily picky about the labs, but take it as a practice to the futre boss. Lots of E.C. so easy A
tests = easy (he gives you sample test and it's the same as the real one) Tons of extra credit. I don't like his personality, everything depends on his mood...so at the lab, he'll try to keep u there longer. He can be picky about the lamest things (gave 2/5 for not labeling hw title) Overall: easy...as long as u follow his directions.
easy tests plus lots of extra credits. but u would never understand his lectures. in another words, take him if u wanna get an A and DON't care how much physics u have learned.

he has no common sense, he can change his mind anytime which means he can give ur lab an A at 2:00 but give u a C if u let him read the same lab report at 1:50. very whimsical and unstable. tests r ez, yet he's super picky. u may think it's nonsense, but he thinks it's important.
this dude has to teach elementary physcis at LACC. com'on the department please make him retired for giving him free soda.****!
please make him retired...please...
Took him for Spring 05. I got an A, but hated this class. Fell asleep almost every lectures. His 1D labs are the hardest and most time consuming of all his other physics classes. Almost all the groups turned their labs late every time. The only fun things was playing frisbees in class during breaks and playing with the liquid nitrogen.
Online winter class - This guy gave so much EC I ended up with over 100%. The tests were easy mainly because he gave all the test questions as a study guide. I couldnt have scored more than a B on all the tests and still got away with an A+. If you get a chance to take this class online JUMP at the chance! Easiest A I ever got (bye bye Mr. Liu's F)

You will understand the subject well if you pay attention to him. But he is picky though.

I think every one get A in my class. Alway didn't get what he said. Just follow other students.
YOU NEED TO HAVE PATIENCE THE LAB IS THREE HRS LONG AT TIMES. EVERYONE GETS AN A. HE GRADES ON TEAMWORK. SO, JOIN A TEAM THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY TARDY OR LAZY STUDENTS.
This guy is great. You get points for doing other types of learning such as physics related new articles, and making your own web page. There is a weekly quiz, but if you have enough points doing other stuff, really no need to do good on it. Also, final is open anything! Easy, easy A. Take this if you need the course for AA, but not physics major.
Condescending and anally meticulous. Lectures aren't much help. He will give you the run around regarding even the simplest questions. You need to learn how to play his game in order to survive the class. The key is extra credit, and lots of it.
If you do not pass this online course, you might be mentally challenged! It was the easiest course ever, and as long as you submit things each week, you will have enough points to pass. I never bought a book and I got an "A" in the class by just submitting Physics jokes, riddles, and different things online. Great, easy class.
Professor Cheney was great! I learned a tough subject many different ways. Lots of EC. You earn points the best way you learn. You could take quizes or report articles/webpages or make your own page and other ways. Great teacher, great class, easy A, learned alot, had lots of fun, didnt stress about anything in this class.
i don't recommend him. As someone said before, he changes his mind all the time. And he is extremely picky.
Worst teacher i have ever had in my life (and i've had a lot). He is extremely condescending, even to people that are intelligent (IE not asking stupid questions.) He will find someway to find your faults and just NAIL you for them. His "lectures" are not clear at all. REally, just a bad overall teacher. DO NOT TAKE.
I have to say that he is an easy teacher. However, if you want to survive his class, you need to have strong endurance and perseverance.
I took Physics 10 during the winter online. It's perhaps one of the easiest classes I've taken. You could go on field trips, and write about it for points. Textbooks aren't necessary, although I'd recommend going into the chatrooms during exam day to share answers. Good class to take for your GEs.
very easy teacher, only needed a negative 30 in the last exam because of the easy tests he gives and big amount of extra credit. Unfortunately, I did not learn a thing.
Took his online class. Very PICKY. However, very kind and understanding. He is a great professor and he is very smart. Even though he is picky but still Recommend him for sure. Final open notes. have to have 50percent to pass the class.
worst teacher in my life ! that's it.
this teacher is awful!! i dropped the class and signed with JERRY SHI INSTEAD....i took this class online ...he wasnt helpful
Very nice and helpful professor.
If you like people that tell you that your answer is not right, take him. He is too picky, to the point that you don't get any credit for the work you turn in. The way the class is set up is understandable. The books he assigns are interesting. But the class is a pain, when you don't really need it. Overall, I would suggest to take someone else.
Someone please make him go away. Completely unclear and unorganized. Lab grades are entirely dependent on his mood at the time. Forced my group to redo ours 7 times+ before I gave up and left. Makes it feel like you're bothering him if you have a question. NO help. I LOVED physics before his class.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS even if it is the only one left, unless he is the ONLY professor for the class. Extremely picky. Have to label everything and -5 points for 1 missing unit. Lectures are slow and off topic.
hes easy! but doesnt teach well.. so im worrying about my next level phys class~
ONLINE CLASS. Professor is worthless. He's too picky when you submit an answer and doesn't even give you a tiny bit of partial question. You can write a book for an answer for a question, but if you don't give him exactly what he wants, he will give you zero points for tons of work you do, even if its correct, if its not what he wanted.
This man should no longer be teaching. He may have been a decent professor in the 1950s but now he just stands there sipping his diet coke and going through a lecture at the slowest speed possible. He is very picky with his labs and seems to grade everything based on his mood or probably just at random. I loved physics before this man...
I would rather eat glass than take this class again. There is no teacher more annoying or less helpful anywhere.
This professor is by far the worst I've had at PCC. He is picky as hell with your answers. Rejects your answer for 0 points even if you do deserve credit or you think it's correct. Sometimes I think he's just bored and aggravates you for fun. Haven't learned jack from him and I don't even know how he is still teaching. Truly horrific experience.
he's extremely picky on your work. but you can get a good grade if you do the assignments
to me,his online class was a super easy A and I am not 4.0 student.you get all the points you need by doing the activities(e.g.submitting physics jokes).Just rmb to answer anything based on his notes and his pt of view then you will be fine!!He is fast in responding to entries on blackboard.the diet coke obsession is true lol
Best physics teacher I've ever met. He explain concepts smoothely,he used small quizes help us review the basic thoughts. These quizes can be substituded by final exam grade if you didn't do well. Lots extracredit in or out of class, almost equal to a EXAM! Tips: do the sample tests couple times, tests always similar to the samples.Highly recommend
This professor is extremely tough and the lecture is very unclear. Half of class dropped. Not recommended.
It is very difficult to get good grades in this class. The lecture does not make any sense. Too much homework and assignments. The professor is not nice and he is very strict to students. If you want to get A, don't take it.
Not recommended.
Tough professor and lots of work. Although you put so much efforts, you may not get A.
This professor was extremely frustrating for me. On his tests I would use the correct equation, get the correct answer, and still get a ZERO on the problem because I put a minus sign on the wrong velocity in the starting equation. So over one minus sign I get a zero? Not even partial credit? Don't take this class. He is way too strict and picky!!!
Mundane, repetitive experiments; odd, unfair grading;too picky; cares more about the art than the work done on tests/homework/labs; morbid lecture examples, diagrams, and humor... The physics department at PCC is a joke and is keeping me from transferring.I've gone through Physics 1A, 1B (had to drop - Ms. Quan is hard to understand), now 31A drop:/
Take physics 10 ONLINE!! It's so easy online. It hardly relates to physics and there is literally no math involved. I was facing chem22 until I found this class, so happy I did. He was very responsive. The tests don't count against you. Every point you earn goes towards your A. Do the work and you won't even have to take the final. Loved it!!
The most non-sense and stupid class ever, no material ever provided. Do not expect to learn anything. You will waste your time to post stupid comments and canvas.Sometimes it will took him over 1 week to respond your post, he will argue with u instead of giving credit. Worst online class ever, Not recommended.
His lectures aren't as comprehensive as other physics professors I've taken. The class was lab heavy (50%+ of the time spent in and outside of class was dedicated to labs & reports), which is unusual, but good practice for university research. Tough grader, but quite lenient on extra credit. Up to 50pts E.C. for attending JPL & science club events.
STUPID ONLINE CLASS!! lots of "rules" that doesn't make sense. you may wrote a long paragraph but get 0 point. very picky and unorganized class, stay away!!
He is very hard. I recommend taking either Quan or Shi. Lectures are not clear! Help your GPA!!
The instructions were unorganized and lack of quality. His grading system was convoluted and seemed designed to frustrate the participants, his lecture notes more than 3 decades old.
His grading is very particular and almost no partial points if the answer doesn't make him "happy." He doesn't bother to completely check exams or assignments. His philosophy on teaching is little to no lectures. When there are lectures, he demands that students use his "own" proof or definition for exams. A terrible experience in general, avoid!
Tests are easier than other professors'. Most problems are just explanation from book. Tons of EC. Curve the grade every time. Although you won't understand his labs and lectures, you will be fine as long as you read the book and understand the concepts. Require a lot of self-learning. Don't drop it after the 1st week if u really need this class.
The online class instructions were the MOST unclear mish-mosh of nonsense I have ever seen. I have taken other online classes with MUCH clearer instructions and I always got As. I don't know what planet this professor comes from but I decided to drop. I'm annoyed! I really wanted to learn about physics but this "class" would just waste my time.
The most picky and unclear professor I have ever taken at PCC. He gives vague lectures then expects you to demonstrate an incredibly detailed understanding of a formula or derivation. A similar story during lab, where you'll spend most of your time just getting his signature to continue to the next step. He grades only on how he feels, beware!
Horrible and vague professor. Unclear with lectures and labs. Most of his lectures are derivation of equations/formulas. Labs instructions are very unclear and we spend most of our time figuring out what to do. But his tests are very very easy. Everything he included on his study guide is exactly in the test. Study the sample test and derivations.
DONT TAKE THIS PROF! Totally unclear grading criteria, grading was inconsistent. There wasn't clear expectations for the class, just general ideas. No assigned textbook, simply told us to "google" and "wikipedia." I didn't learn anything, which is a shame and waste of everyone's time. He shouldn't be allowed to be a professor.
He's very unclear and does not give directions. Especially in an online class, this does not help. Tends to be rude and condescending towards students. Will not give credit if he doesn't "feel" it's right. Lecture notes outdated. Absolutely do not recommend.
His online class was the worst. Did not have a syllabus that is clear to follow. Also, I had to check my grades almost everyday because sometimes he would not even grade my work. Not recommended if your serious about learning physics or passing the class.
No instruction; very much "google it" and do it yourself class. I just don't understand how you expect people, who may have never taken a physics class to just "google" things about physics. There was no structure, except for 3 decade old lecture notes. Sometimes I would complete an "assignment" and have to fight for points. Not worth my time.
Please don't take him. Terrible He is not supposed to be a professor. He has his own world. you won't understand his criteria clearly, and even If you did great on works, he doesn't give you full credits for it. And I don't know why. the worst prof ever. Anyone will be even better than him. he should retire now. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
no lenient with grades.
He has lots of extra credit to boost your grade, but the test and all homework assignments are graded harshly.
There is really no criteria for his grading and depends on how he's feeling, so it makes doing homework and taking exams very frustrating. Labs and lectures are pointless, so get ready to learn everything on your own. However, there's a lot of extra credit and if you study the old exams he provides, you should get an A.
Very condescending. Lectures felt more like conversations between him and the people who already knew physics. He would get stuck in the middle of a derivation and say "a miracle occurs" and then write the correct equation. You will be completely lost during labs. Grades exams unfairly. He will not accept any explanation from the textbook.
Do not do it. Your probably looking at the 8% would take again rating thinking can it really be that bad? YES.... Yes he is that bad do not take this class by far most incompetent professor on pccs campus
This guy sets a new bar for how poor a professor can be. The home page has hundreds of unrelated hyperlinks & pictures, and organization that looks like it was done by a 2 year old with crayons. Wanna check your grades? Find which of the 3 grade books is the right one. Want feedback? Doesn't exist. Don't take this class, 77% of the class has an F.
In this class I got the experience of dramatic life ...
Actually one of the best professors Ive ever had!! He writes question marks on your test when he doesnt understand anything and he also has the power to make "miricles" happen while solving proves!!!
Professor Cheney is just awesome! So many extra credit opportunities, and he really gives students a lot of opportunities to collaborate and share their ideas about physics!
He gives a lot of extra credit points on exams and other extra credit opportunities outside the class.
If you're reading and we're still quarantined, DON'T TAKE HIM. He is in his 80s and should retire. I took him as an asynchronous class (so no scheduled lecture on zoom, only office hours, and videos) and was offered no support, questions answered with a question, inconsistent directions, and cares more about the format than actual physics.
An amazing professor that is really dedicated to the world of physics! I learned a lot from his class and his set up makes it easy for you to succeed in his class, you just need to put in the work and effort and you will see your effort pay off! I highly recommend this class!
This class was honestly just awful, truthfully. There were no class meetings so he just gave Youtube lecture videos that were pretty pointless. Labs were difficult with unclear instructions and don't get me started on the format, he way too picky. If you need actually learn physics, take someone else! The bad reviews are there for a reason.
Awful. The only material this professor provides are ancient lecture notes with no actual lecture and a study guide which is basically just a copy of the test, encouraging cheating. Its self paced and self motivated in the sense that you have to independently teach yourself the material without any intervention. No actual teaching is done.
Most unorganized and confusing professor I've ever taken after 7 years of university. No lecture, I studied the textbook, watched all the old lecture videos, and took notes everywhere and somehow I scored the average 60% on the first "quiz". Questions were very vague. Labs are even more confusing. Stay away
Horrible horrible! I was in this professor's class for a month, and it took me about that long to learn his self-made, excel sheet grading system. Grades arbitrarily with no clear rubrics. After you answer discussion posts, he will continue to ask questions, resulting in a grade of 0. Gives grades for jokes, and if he doesn't like them you get a 0.
Professor Cheney gives so much extra credit, you could pass with that alone. Definitely gives more than enough opportunities for an A. I needed this course as a prereq for a MS program and Im glad I chose Cheney. He allowed the final to replace other quizzes. One of the more understanding professors ive taken
