Very east test, notes come off the internet, study guide provided
hes ok
4 tests, dont have to take final, notes on internet
Test not to hard
great, fun class, learned a lot, online notes, study guides for tests
cares about students; involved w/ campus activities; passionate about field
Online notes, Book not necessary, Drops lowest test grade, Very understanding
best teacher i had at sfa
very nice guy, notes online except didn't think they really helped with the test. I thought the tests were pretty hard and i would study hard for them and would make C's.
Is enthusiastic and has a passion for teaching; however, lectures did not prepare me for the tests very well. Sweet guy, but the class was a bit difficult for an introductory course. If you're not a poli-sci major, you may want to consider another prof.
Fun guy. Tests can be hard. Take decent notes. Go to SI groups and you'll be fine.
great teacher. notes (same as lecture) on internet. understanding and willing to work with students. not hard at all.
Dr. Collier is AWESOME!! He is very organized and is willing to talk about whatever the class wants to discuss within reason. He is VERY intelligent and is truly interseted in what he teaches. Prepares you well for the tests, but you do have to study.
GREAT PROF. Very nice, and always willing to see you in his office. Lectures are fairly interesting and he knows his stuff. Only 4 exams and he takes the best three. Notes online. TAKE HIM!!! Easy B if you study hard. Lots of resources available to you.
He's an amazing teacher. Tries to make one of the most boring classes fun and interesting. Online Notes!!
He is really easy going and is always willing to help youi with his material
Collier is very cool. His class is very easy. You hardly ever need to read the book. Attendance is required and there is 3 tests and one final. Also he has a website you can get all the notes from.
prof. collier is great!! informative, clear lectures and is always open to talk after class. i got an A with very minimal reading--take him, you won't regret it!
Pretty boring class, but he makes it as fun as possible, easier than most the other PSC teachers.
Awesome class. come to class and read the chapters and the tests are a piece of cake! Takes the best 3 out of four tests. Didnt even have to take the final becasue 1st three tests were A's. I got an A in the class
Take him. He is so nice, and willing to help. He drops lowest test grade.
Hmm... really kind of mixed on Collier. For his upper level courses, I really don't feel too enlightened. Very broad and vague on certain points. The day before the final, nobody could figure out what he'd been teaching. As friendly as they come, though.
Very nice, but I find myself wondering what the point to the class is. Very vague, lecture has little focus. Disappointed in how this subject could be made so boring.
very nice and sincere, interesting class
Great class, friendly, funny professor! The class is easy but very informative if you pay attention and read.
UGH! 10 page paper from hell! he seems arrogant, gets off subject way to easily, talks about his stupid book all the time, has class favorites, just overall boring class and probably because of the teacher!
Easy B if you go to class and read the book every once in a while
The class was interesting but the tests were tricky. All the notes were online and he just repeats them in class the tests go into more detail, reading the book is a must. Nice guy though.
you can print notes off internet. makes a boring subject interesting. final is optional. always willing to help if you come to his office.
He really is a nice guy, but that doesn't get you an A. He takes off for attendance and his tests aren't related to the lecture very well. I studied my butt off for his tests and I made a D in his class. Final is optional.
Very cool, easy to understand and take notes.
GOOD AND ENTERTAINING!! YOU WILL HAVE FUN, JUST TAKES A LITTLE PREPARATION BEFORE THE TEST...HE HAS REVIEWS AND NOTES ON LINE. ITS A GOOD CLASS.
LOVE HIM!!!!!!! still remembers me and i had him last year. makes class fun. Brings candy to class sometimes. will talk about anything
READ THE BOOK!!!
Really nice guy. Makes the class at least semi-entertaining. Take notes and GO TO LECTURE! He takes attendance every day. Not super easy, but it won't kill you, either.
Great guy! Notes online, uses slides during lecture, only 4 tests a semester and he drops the lowest one, if you like your grade after the first 3, you can skip the final. Reading helps. Lecture class but some discussion. Points for attendence and participation. Makes the subject relate to you.
Great prof. 4 exams and he drops the lowest, plus if you go take the final he'll give you a lot of room to bump your grade up. I needed an 89 on my final to make an A in the class, and I got a 77 but still made an A. He's very helpful and cares about his students. Great guy.
Good class. Once you get the hang of his tests they aren't difficult at all. Entertaining guy with good stories and he encourages in-class discussions which is nice for a change. It's important that you come to class. SI really helps so do the online quizzes. TAKE THE QUIZZES!
Ok teacher class gets alittle boring at times 4 test drops the lowest u have to go to class its part of ur grade. His test can be tricky so don't just study the online outlines read alittle too. Overall nothing too special. Yowell is better
Great teacher and person too! A refreshing schedule change from Codispotti!!! Good lectures, kinda tough tests so not an easy A. Must read book too because he expects you too, studying his onlines notes alone wont get you an A. Take him!!!
His lectures are incredibly slow and boring, but it's not that hard to get an A if you attend class (he takes roll every day) and read the book and study. He puts lecture outlines and study guides on his website.
Okay guys Im being honest, this class boring and confusing. First of all attendance is required like we are in elementary, and you basically look at slides the whole time. And that poor excuse for a review he gives is only about 35% of the test. Collier is nice and all, but I dont reccomend him!!!!
hes too friendly and personal sometimes, i jsut want to get on with class. it is nice getting announcements from students at the beginning of class but when the conversation starts up, i get annoyed. the study guide is vague
Read the book and take good notes. The class is dull unless you enjoy PP presentations. "Sharing Time" gets a bit old when it takes a chunk out of class time.
A great guy! The tests are kina hard, but you only take 4 and get to drop the lowest one. Takes attendance every day which helps your grade. SI helps a lot. Not hard at all to get a B; have to work a little to get an A. Lecture notes online help, but pay attention to lecture in class.
Class is overall easy. Dr. Collier is fun to be around and he is very helpful. Sometimes that class seems boring but every once in a while he will do something to make the class fun. His notes are on the internet and they some directly from the lecture.
Wouldnt recomend him. The tests are hard, there is an insain amount of notes, and his absence fettish is out of controll! If you talk or fall asleep or miss class points are deducted from your Attendence 10% of the grade! Not an easy class.
I took him for both sections and I'm glad I did. Tests are pretty tough even if you study hard you don't always get the questions he thought were important. I didn't want to take govt at all but I enjoyed the class and learned a lot too!! I'd recommend him if you ARENT LAZY!!!!!
Great class, he is very helpfull, and not to mention funny. Class can sometimes ge boring, but he tries really hard to make it interesting. His test are somewhat hard, but if you study the lecture notes along with the book, youll be fine. Also pay attention in class b cuz he ask questions about the discussion in the tests. Take him!!
This guy is really good. The class is only lecture and test, but it's not that bad. His lecture is on power-point and he always has interesting pictures and stuff. Have to study for the test. Can make a B or and A. I'm taking him again for 142. He's funny and he's fair. Good overall professor.
funny!!
Great teacher! Tests are not that hard you just have to study good for them. 4 tests but you can DROP one if you want!! funny and likes southpark, chappelle show, and familyguy.
not a good teacher to many notes. He doesn't give you enough time to write them down before he changes the slide. i would recommend no one to take this professor. the attendence policy is crazy. The class is so boring you have no choice but to go to sleep
Great teacher. Talks to the students and very helpful. He will tell you at the begining of the year to go to his website and get his notes off of there and DO IT! he doens't remind you through out the year,he only says it once. Use his website, kencollier.org it is very helpful! Test come from book and lecture so do both! I am takin him again
Doc Collier was the absolute greatest- I am taking his 142 class this semester because I enjoyed his class so much next semester.
Am. Pres. Awesome teacher, really smart and helpful! This class makes you think a different way..would DEFINITLY reccomend him...i'm taking him every chance i get!
Collier is a really good professor. He makes a lot of good points and explains everything well. He isn't just EASY, but if you pay attention and study a tad you will make a A or B. He is a cool guy.
Dr. Collier's a great teacher. Sure, his classes may be all lecture, but he keeps your attention and isn't boring. His tests are medium difficulty: all you have to do is read over your notes a few times and you're garunteed at least a B. He is also very nice about turning in daily assignments (although we only got 6 of them) late. Good teacher.
Great Lectures!!
Awesome teacher! Lectures are great and is very helpful. I'm taking him again. Just show up to class and take good notes and you'll be fine.
Collier is a great profesor. If you listen in class and go to some of the SI meetings you'll do fine. I usually study a day before and will make an 87. BUT it really depends how well you know this subject, if you don't have any prior knowledge i suggest you pay attention and print of the slides that he makes(which are on the test 97% of the time)!
He was really easy for 141 (but that's because I knew a lot on the subject) but 142 seemed to be harder. I made an A in 141 and a B in 142. If you pay attention and go to class, then you will do fine. He is a great prof.
PROFESSOR COLLIER IS AMAZING! His notes are all online so you can just print them out for each class and listen along/write extra side notes. He makes the class interesting and fun, especially by teaching us "what they don't include in textbooks". Also, go to the SI groups the 2 days prior to each exam! Collier's awesome, enough said.
Dr. Collier is a good teacher!!!! I strongly reccomend going to S.I. study groups B/C it helps alot. Read the book because he does put questions about it on the exams....he will help you in anyway possible...if you have a problem talk to him and he will work with you. COME TO CLASS. IT IS PART OF YOUR GRADE...study a couple days b/f test, "A"
He's a really cool guy, likes to joke around during class. The power points are on his website so you can take notes from there or print them off if you miss class. He also posts grades on there so you can keep track. Super helpful and all around very organized. Will take him again for PSC 142.
he is a funny teacher. pay attention to his lectures and read the book and kinda keep an update on current events cuz he puts a question on every test about a current event. mainly his tests are over lecture. he makes the whole class laugh and he constantly reminds us he is normal
easy test, lowest grade dropped, a couple optional homework(10%) assignments, attendance 10%
He is a good teacher but if political science is not your cup of tea, dont take him. I passed with a C and i only missed two classes and one assignment. The test were just too difficult and i went to the SI's before the tests
Class was fairly easy. SI was very helpful. He gives you a review for all tests, and he drops your lowest test score, even if its your final. Homework assignments are easy, and sometimes you go over them in SI the day before they are due. Reading is helpful. He gives you the notes online, and also goes over them in class
He is a pretty cool teacher. the class is ok however, if you are one who doesnt really give a**** about political science, dont go into this class thinking you are goin to get an easy A. Attendance is not required but i recommend goin to class because IT WILL HURT you in the end. test are fairly hard, multiple choice, go to SI and study!!!!
Easy teacher!!! Tests and homework are really easy, just do the key term review on his web site. Had him for 141 and 142. Great personality and has some pretty funny comments about politics. Will help you if you need it.
Excellent prof he really knows what he is talking about and relates it back to the students very clearly
BORING.
he is a great professor. we need more like him.
He's ok.His tests aren't easy but they aren't extremely hard.Make sure to read the textbook chapters! He put's 5-10 Q's on the test over info in the textbook.Do ALL of the online assignments (trust me they'll really help your grade in the end). Attendance will also help your grade a lot. Sadly his test reviews online don't help much. Too vague.
He is a great guy! Is very open to any questions, his slide shows are on the internet, that's all he goes over during class, very chill atmosphere. Funny guy. RECOMMEND!Just READ, do the exercises online and study! :)
thi man is so nice but ..SO BORING! tests are NOT easy somewhat difficult
Overall good professor. 4 tests, you get to drop your lowest grade. Lecture is kind of boring and the tests are somewhat difficult, but if you go to SI, it helps out a lot! ;) And keep up on current events!
Overall, the class isn't difficult. The lectures are long and boring and the tests aren't so easy, but he drops your lowest one. You get points just for being in class, so even though it's boring, GO!
Best teacher I have ever had. Super enthusiastic and funny, and really makes the subject interesting. Best thing is that his tests are super easy and never have to read the book - and he drops the lowest test grade - including the final. I didn't have to take the final for 141 or 142 because I was happy with my grade.
He knows a lot about the topic, but if politics and government doesn't interest you DO NOT TAKE HIM! A group of us were just points away from a B and although we had perfect attendance and had perfect grades on his online exercises and everything else, he wouldn't help you out with bumping the grade up. Nice, but ridiculous. :<
He is very easy going. You can tell he loves his job. If you don't love political science you might get bored. Go to his SI, she is very good and helps make up for what I didn't get in class. It is very laid back and a fun environment. Bonus, he drops your lowest exam.
Dr. Collier is such a dork but he really loves the subject and really cares to get you involved. He has a real passion for politics and really relates it to real life. His tests are okay as long as you READ and know the vocab. Make sure to go to his SI because it really helps. And it's nice because the final is optional & he drops lowest test grade
Dr. Collier is a bit nerdy but is really funny! He really knows what he is talking about and catches people's interest no matter what. The class really seems to fly by because I get wrapped up in his lecture. The tests are pretty easy just make sure you are caught up on current events as well as the material because that is on the test!
Funny and friendly guy. Class is BORING, but he does his best to try to keep you awake. Lots of notes and book is absolutely necessary. Final is optional. I pulled a B without really trying too hard. An A definitely takes effort. Pay attention in class and read the assigned stuff and you'll be okay (I never read lol). VERY helpful in office hours.
He is a great teacher who brings in things that relate to us to make it easier to understand!
Hard and really boring. Tests are hard and you have to read BOTH books.
He is, in my opinion a great professor! He is really helpful and dorky but you can tell he is just trying to relate to the students. He is really helpful and gives a lot of examples that go with the lesson. His test are not that bad if you study and read both books.
He is funny and knows how to talk A LOT! I didnt mind being in his class for an hour and 15 min because he is a good professor. His test are okay but you really have to study the notes and read both books. His class isnt the easiest but it isnt hard.
Should buy the books, they're relatively cheap as well. Everything that will be on the test is in the power points that he will post online. Gives a study guide for each test and is available for office hours which really helped me clarify things. Final is optional!!
Professor Collier is a really great teacher. His lectures are interesting and he makes them relative to his students. He always opens up the floor for anyone who wants to talk about whatever. His tests aren't too hard, just make sure you read the textbook and stay up to date on current events. I highly recommend taking his class.
He is one of my favorites! Very clear on everything and will take time to further explain some things even without asking. Sometimes you do need to ask and he'll say "Does that make sense?" from time to time. Also, takes the time to ask for announcements before beginning class, including sports, fine arts, or anything relevant to SFA.
Great professor. The more your class participates, asks a lot of question and have discussions the easier the test are. You can't really go wrong in this class with this professor.
Professor Collier is a great teacher. He gives great lectures that are easy to follow. His tests arent hard, if you study the review and read the book youll do great. I suggest taking his class if you want an easy class but still want to learn! I had him for 141 and 142 and I only used the books when studying for tests, but he uses the same ones.
His lectures are interesting and his exams relate to the lecture with the exception of a few questions about the chapter readings. He requires the same book for both 141 and 142, which is helpful in making what student pay for the textbook worth the buy.
Two books, one of which is partially written by him. An overall amazing professor. If you happen to miss class, or in my case, a whole paper, he's sympathetic and will still give you a chance. Easy to follow powerpoints. Two papers (very short) and Exams are fairly easy so long as you follow the study guides. He posts all his powerpoints on D2L.
He makes the class interesting and does not present his personal biases, which was refreshing. He is kind of goofy and fun. The only con is that he docks a point off of your attendance grade every time you are late or absent. I was always 5 min. late, so my final grade was a B even though I got A's on all the tests.
Gives great lectures. I enjoyed the time in the beginning of class when we talked about current events/issues. The class is easy if you review the key terms, topics, and big concepts in the books. You don't need to read all of the textbook/s to do well, just know the definitions from the book. Some of the things he says in class are on the exams.
I have taken Collier for both PSC 141 and 142. He works well with athletes who have busy schedules.
Lecture heavy, goes through many power points. You must pay attention and take notes or passing the test will be difficult. The class is still doable.
As long as you follow the reviews for the test, this class should be an easy one to pass.
Professor Collier is one of the best Political Science professors here at SFA! As long as you show up to class and take very well detailed notes you should pass the class with no problem. Professor Collier's lectures were long but very interesting. I would suggest to always do the test reviews and go to his office hours if you have questions.
Dr. Collier is, by far, the best teacher I have had at SFA so far. He cares about his students, is super funny, and teaches in a laid-back sort of way that I really enjoyed. If you do poorly on an exam, he is super helpful and is always willing to give you helpful advise on how to do better on the next one. 10/10 would recommend taking his class!
Best professor I have ever had. He is super excited about the subject matter and knowledgeable enough to explain the information simply. He is super involved in his students outside of class. He has two textbooks to read, but most test material come from lecture. Three tests and final, drops lowest test. Definitely recommend.
Great professor! Easy-going. Easy to understand. Clear class instruction. Must attend class. Read chapters , take notes & pay attention to power points and you will pass. He offers a review before each exam which is very helpful.
This class consists of 3 tests and two writing assignments, the final is optional. Attendance is a part of your grade and its pretty lecture heavy but Professor Collier really cares about your success. He goes out of his way to provide review sessions before tests and will help you as much as you need.
Had Dr. Collier for PSC 141 & 142. Very laid back teaching style. Grading criteria is simple and fair to everyone. Only 3 tests for the semester (4th optional), so take good notes during lectures. Most test questions (mult. choice) come from lecture notes and power points, but READ chapters. FANTASTIC TEACHER! Definitely recommend this class!
Dr. Collier is an excellent professor. He makes sure that everyone has their voice heard in class discussion and that no one feels excluded because of how you sway politically. He's very focused on ensuring that his students are prepared for what comes after colleges and does all he can to guide students to future jobs.
He was one of my favorite professors at SFA. He made class that enjoyable and really wanted to teach all his students. I was devastated to hear of his passing a few months ago. It's hard for me to think of a teacher I would have recommend more to anybody going to SFA. Having him this spring during covid helped keep me sane. Thank you Dr. Collier.
