Clever guy, Exam and H/W is hard, But ur grade will be better than u thought

dont take math 1118 with him. bad teacher cant teach and very confusing. hasnt taught 1118 in 3 yrs.
Very boring, very fast pace, the suckiest suck that ever sucked!

boring..... learn nothing. LP
super cute.he looks like a santa clus. You will learn a lots from his course.I like him very much!!
Granpa knows his stash!
I liked hime very much. He was very HELPFUL and FAIR. He has very wide knowledge about not only math but acct and econ (things that are related to math) so the class was interesting for people who go after biz. Study HARD, you'll get good mark&learning.
boring.....
so many ppl dropped i nthe first couple weeks.....
DO NOT take his class if u really wanna learn sth.
this course is hard! he's ok. the exams aren't too bad. notes are ok
very nice teacher, but you should study hard, and then you can get a good mark.Don't need worry about it.
Very nice guy, i take both his math courses. He is a good teacher in math and stat for business. His stuff is not easy because he tries to teach so much, but dont worry if did a bad job in MT(if not very very bad). His scaling off will surprise u!
Needs to retire.. but not that bad of a teacher..
good instructor, but teach fast. easy marker, but lots of homework.
he's pretty cool..but he doesn't pay enough attention on students..homework is too much!!! and too hard!! I don't recommend this teacher! well, if you don't wanna get lost on math..too much notes..seems he is only into his own world when giving lectures..
He's a nice guy...but that's about it. He has challenging exams, with questions that he pulls out of his rear end. He puts a twist on 90% of the questions; that explains why at least half the class literally failed the first midterm.
The best math teacher... he's really a very nice guy....
i failed both the midterms, screwed the final. i got no idea that i could got C. some friends, got 50% on one of the exams, and end up with A-.
Very nice teacher.
tough tests, half of the class failed on the first term test, very very kind and helpful, although he assign homework questions which are very hard (which wont even appear on the test)!
stay awayyyyyyy from him
this guy talks to the board, makes a lot of mistakes, and cant understand him. i do not recommend him. tests are tough
nice guy ... not good for calculus 2... I didnt understand anything in the class .. what I got from the course was the result of my own studyings..sometimes he cant solve the questions himself!!... (fair marker)
different ppl have different idea. I just wanna say, I get A on 1171 but I dropped his class.
TERRIBLE! The guy has no idea what he's doing half the time. Notes are scattered, he jumps around all the time, when I look at my notes I don't know what I wrote and how it all fits together. He will often get lost, talk to the chalkboard, or tell us one of his irrelevant stories. Too old and cenile
very helpful, although his explanations are kinda confusing, he tries to make sure everyone understands the topic.
A really nice instructor who is always willing and prepared to help his students. He frequently digresses during lectures about graduate level Math and Physics, but that's not always a bad thing given the material. MT's & Final were difficult, to say the least, but he is VERY generous with scaling.
nice guy but his lectures are so wayward. He goes all over the place on the chalkboard so it's hard to make notes. very untidy
i even cannot understand what he teaches in class!assignments are hard, but those exams are totally different from those assignments we did. do not expect a high mark in midterms and final by doing his homework!!aviod him if you are not good at math unless you can study by yourself!
super hard to pass his class, but if u can study by yourself his ok fo u
His teaching style is very disorganized. His test are hard. The good thing is that he will scale up your mark.
if there was ever a time to trust me, this is it. AVOID HIS CLASS. To say that he's a bad teacher, would imply that he teaches, and just not very good at it. In reality, he DOES NOT TEACH. If you must take his course, buy supplement, and be prepared to teach yourself everything. He gives lots of breaks.. and he's a nice guy, and helpful as well.
VERY HARD EXAMS, NOTES ARE NOT VERY USEFUL
Very nice teacher who knows what he's doing. Homework is a lot, but doesn't count against you if done poorly/not done at all. If you haven't had pre-calculus then you'll be very confused, why are you taking this course then? Very helpful during office hours and he scales!
unclear teacher who babbles a lot and talk nonsense. noone ever understand what he is saying.
.....
NOT CLEAR ENGOUGH
I like him very much. What a super nice teacher that I have ever seen in Langara. He is always ready to help students with any problems. Many comments said that he always clouds up everything. BUT I don't think so REALLY! He cares about the students and he will try everything to help them out. RECOMMEND HIM!!
oh man,he always try to change the easiest thing becomes the most difficult!lectures and notes are randomly.during his class,he will let you feel that the course is very difficult.I like math before and good at it,but he just let me go crazy, what should i do???
Don't take it if you want to learn the stuff...you'll suffer...
I believe he is teaching to himself not the class. He does not look to see if anyone has questions. He will help you but not in a way that will help you understand. His answers to questions are designed to confuse. He designs the tests to fail people so he can make wierd deals like giving a take home test worth a certain amount. Avoid him as a
Just do the homework, concentrate in class, not that hard to get a very good grade.
he is a nice guy, gives out mock exam and midterm, and u can tell, he tries his best to teach. however, math is boring, and it is a boring class.
the average for class was <50% for both midterms, and if you have any questions about the exam he will get mad at you. His notes dont make sense(his first time teaching). He doesnt care what students get on the tests. He is bias and old. Trust me, Im warning you, for your own good, dont take his class!!!!
His midterms are a bit tricky but that's expected already. He's helpful, but he wont give answers away; instead, he gives you hints. BUT what I really like about him is his notes! His notes are very thorough and if you aren't as great of a listener, this be the right class for you~
He is a very nice teacher. If you listen to the lectures and do homework, you'll be fine. His notes are very clear. Those who fail in tests should work hard rather than criticize the teacher!
One of the worst teachers I've had. His notes are inconsistent, his teaching is murky, his exams are hard, and his marking is quite hard. 80% of the time, I have no idea what he's talking about. He does every little things that are not important, and does every single calculation. If you don't have a good txtbk, don't ever take him.
Really good teacher!! he tries to explain things carefully, show every simple step and how does he figure out the problem. He is very nice and always ready to answer your questions. but his exam is not esay....anyway, a good teacher whom you can really learn sth from!
Average teacher. Not that good but not that bad either. His notes are kind of repetitive. Nice guy but the way he teaches isn't very objective. He goes a lot into theory and stuff and it doesnt really help you much on homework or exams. However, he is very eager to give extra help to students if you visit his office hours
not clear enough, but a good person himself. teaches too many useless things and exams and tricky. but generally, not too bad as a math professor
nice guy..TERRIBLE teacher. nonsensical. disorganized. notes aren't easy to follow at all (believe me, i tried and rarely skipped class) - making the midterms naturally hard. in 9 semesters at langara i got my first F (could not withdraw). never had below a b- in math before! now i'm repeating 1271... avoid him if you can...
If someone has been at Langara for nine semesters, he is probably not serious of his academic work. Normally, if a student doesn't repeat any courses, he should be graduated at most six semesters. This student probably withdrew and repeated many courses. You got your first F at Lan because you always dropped courses once you found you will fail.
if u r good at math at self -study,take him. if not, good luck and "enjoy" his boring class.
Turst me he is a great prof. MATH 2310 is a tuff course and he is trying his best to make things clear. He actually simplifies the text book althouh the stuff he teaches still seems complicated. Do the homework and you will be fine. Cute guy!
i took 2 courses with him; i think he's great and he can help u so much in his office hour. If u have questions, ask him in class.he's willing to ask all kinds of questions
Do NOT take him for linear algebra if its for the first time, you will suffer horribly unless you do a lot of research and have great interest on your own part. You are supposed to memorize all the proofs, which he explains straight from the textbook. The other teacher that teaches 2362, on the other hand, allows a cheatsheet and matlab usage.
He is a very unorginazed proffesor. Very confused and flustered way of teaching, i would recommend against taking him, avoid if you have a chance to
DO NOT take him for linear algebra. Take it with Nora Franzova. Reasons: this is a proof-based math course that is totally unlike Calculus. He is terrible at teaching, all he does is reread the book. The book isn't useful either, check it out on Amazon, it is a crappy book. Calculus II with the worst teacher is cakewalk compared to this.
He is a terrible teacher. He had to take over the Math 1150 course because another teacher was ill, and he ruined the whole class. Math used to be my thing, and I fail the course overall. There is no point in even going to his classes, he just writes the examples out of the book and expect you to know what he is talking about. Don't waste your time
Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. He is so unhelpful and unclear. His notes are alright but they get all over the place. His heavy breathing during exams are really distracting. 90% of my class stopped showing up after the first midterm. 80% of us failed the course. He ruined my transcript.
A boring teacher..........
He likes to talk to the blackboard, mumbling away while solving math problems in his head, not for the class. He skips steps often, and doesn't bother to explain, so it can be hard to follow. However, his exams are quite difficult (lots of questions, short time), and he is averse to scaling. When asking for extra practice he will tell you to google
It's a time-consuming couse with lots of homework. His lecture and notes were ok; however,he skiped materials or mentioned it too fast. You might have to spend more time after class to figure out the materials by yourself. I always felt there was not enough time to finish all the questions in exam.
Undoubtedly a brilliant mathematician..... But a subpar professor. Mumbles to the board, solves in his head and essentially for himself rather than to teach us. Skips numerous steps, and covers the board a lot
not a good teacher at all
hes an ok teacher but hes too slow and does not go into the hard stuff with too much depth/clarity. he over explains the simple stuff
Is Ken the best teacher? No! But can you get an A in his class? Yes! How? Just do lots of questions like any other math course and you should be fine. He offers plenty bonus marks for homework and midterms. Test time is usually too short for what's given but it separates the A students from the C students. Would I take Ken again? YES!
Gave my class an extremely hard 2nd midterm, which is why I gave him a 2 for easiness. Not helpful because he only does the easy questions on the board. Fairly understandable, but sometimes needs to think to himself (he's getting old). Like any math class, do questions, ask for his help, and you'll do fine.
make sure you do the homework, the exam is quite hard, pretty much rushed through the questions and didn't even finish
Im lucky I took calc in highschool, because I wouldnt be able to understand many of his concepts, which he doesnt seem to know how to teach. Some of it is either self explanatory and redundant, and some just unable to be comprehended. half the class didnt show up after the exam. should be clear indication to all calc beginners to find a better prof
First midterm class average was 47%. Half the class dropped. Second midterm, 52%. A few more people dropped. Math needs to be taught through simplifying concepts and repetition. He goes makes no sense in his explanations (unless you know weird math notation) not to mention he writes EXTREMELY tiny with a dying blue pen. Don't take him.
He is extremely a good marker and good person. He is very helpful, especially at his office hours. His exams are relevant. He is always happy to help you.
He's a nice guy but doesn't seem to know how to teach. For people coming out of high school, good luck. His examples in class are based on economics and don't relate to the textbook. The practice midterm is easy, but the midterm he gives is brutal. He says that you should be able to figure it out. Class average 50%
Received a C on first midterm, B on second midterm, but he gave me an A+ for final grade. Do your paper hw + online hw, watch out for the economic related questions and you will be fine. Tests are quite easy if you took Calculus in HS.
Don't take math with him if you wanna learn sth and get a good mark. His homeworks are super easy but tests are super hard even you don't have time to finish. He makes no sense of what he teaches. If you have no choice to take his class then study by yourself.
Not a good teacher. Luckily i took calculus before in HS but his questions have nothing to do with the homework he gives out and he makes it really hard to do well on exams since there is barley any time. If you want a good mark avoid. And do not take him if you are new to Calc. I am basically learning everything myself.....
Something is not clear? Go to his office, ask for help. Heck, he stayed in class for half an hour AFTER the lecture finished just to help students. DO HIS ASSIGNMENTS for god's sake. They helped you with concepts AND AGAIN YOU CAN ASK HIM FOR HELP IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING
He was hands-down the worst teacher I have ever had. Get ready to teach yourself the material, because chances are he won't do it.
He was my worst teacher this semester, his classes seemed as if he was only doing the problems for his own personal gain rather then for the benefits of the students. I had to teach myself the course material, his way was clearly confusing and at least half of the class either failed or dropped out. AVOID at all costs
Calculus isn't easy. The lecture are not super exciting. On the other hand... He posts past midterms and finals. He gives extra credit for doing homework. If you read the chapter (5 pages) before class, it helps enormously because you know what parts of the notes to write down, and what questions to ask.
Collins is always helpful to students and posts past finals. However, homework was annoying to complete, the midterms and final were brutal and unfair for most students. In order to succeed, you need to spend hours on youtube, look up examples, do past finals, ask for help and do your homework. Thanks for the "A" Collins, awesome prof.
Tough class, but mainly because he intentionally made the exams difficult. If you keep up with the homework and make sure you understand it inside and out, you should be fine
He is gentle and decent overall. His exams are quite difficult. However, the questions he includes in the tests are mentioned in his class. So attendance is a must for good grades. Those who have good maths foundations needn't worry. Homework is optional but quite intensive. He does not use online homework system.
Ken is alright. You are probably going to learn a lot on your own since he does go pretty slow and he sometimes does not explain concepts too well. One of his highlights that I must say is that for the two midterms and final he tells you questions by question what he will ask you to do or solve.
his exam is not too hard and will tell the type of questions in the exam.
He is a really patient professor and he will be happy if you ask him questions and not too difficult exam
He is really a nice prof. Just follow his lectures and do the assigned homework. His midterms are easy.
He is the best prof. ever.
Probably the worst professor for math beginner. His lectures are basically reading from the text book and with limited amount of information on solutions. It is hard to learn from both his class and his homework. His test is totally different from homework. *If you wanna do good, do his final exam practice. The midterms and final are similar.
Okay, this will be the most honest review of this prof compared to some of the other reviews. His tests are way harder than the practice questions. This lectures aren't useful. Text book kind of sucks. He is nice. Willing to help a lot during office hours, so go to them. Youtube and math help centre will be best friend. Don't take his class.
Do yourself a favour and avoid...
So currently Im heading into the final with a 71% from two midterms. Im writing this now because its almost registration for spring 2020. DO NOT TAKE his class. Id be getting 90% + if it wasnt for him.
Class Lecture is all equation proofs. Don't actually learn how to do math problems. Hard to understand him during office hours.
