Very easy and intersting.
i loved this class! i gained such appreciation for older movies and was exposed to some of my now favorites. take it honors and have a movie night once a week!
Easy A. Just go to class. He appreciates most every genre of movies, even action movies. But be prepared to watch westerns and musicals. Some are even *gasp* in black and white! Really, its not bad at all. You should give muiscals and western a chance.
Great class, lots of NC17 rated movies, but other than that it is an all around fun class. Couple of foreign films, but when he shows the good movies the class is interesting. He knows alot about movies and like to discuss them. Overall great class.
he's kinda cool ... i would say it's an easy A class if you take good notes and study them before exam, no serious reading is required, in fact you don't really need the book since he just tests you on the things he's lectured. the only bad part is he doesn't give any extra credit.
really cool guy. has a problem with authority himself so hes totally easy going. awesome class. you get to watch good movies every week. tests just on notes, but as long as you somewhat pay attention in class, you'll be fine. don't even need the text.
really nice guy. tries to make his lectures interesting. movies were pretty good. he is fun to watch when he lectures. you can really tell he is into cinema. you do have to study for the tests but you dont have to kill yourself. i give him two thumbs up!
Didn't look forward going to this class. Lectures even past the time of dismissal when you have been sitting watching boring movies for 3 hours already. You become very restless and uneasy. Lectures are boring and so are the movies. 5 tests, only 3 count. No other work.. No extra credit. Not too much to give a foundation for your grade. Be Careful!
DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!
no extra credit. not clear about whats going to be on the test. really ****y. weird. did not enjoy his class. he makes you want to sleep. and he rambles on about nothing. test are confusing just as he is... DON'T take the class!
Nice guy, hes loves what he does so he gets you interested in it too. The tests can be unclear sometimes you just have to pay attention and study your notes but other than that its pretty laid back. I recommend him
I had winter session with him and i thought he was a great teacher. The main thing is to take notes. I studied for 15 mintues before each test and got an A cuz he goes off the notes. Extremely passionate for cinema which really makes you want to learn. He recommended the movie The New World. Never would have appreciated it if i didnt take this class.
Very good/fun class even if you are not that interested in cinema. all you have to do is take good notes and study them. the movies are good, even the subtitled ones. sure there are only 3 mids and a final, but they are pretty easy if you have taken the notes.
Windrum is awesome he is very passionate about Cinema and he will teach you a lot about it if you pay attention. He shows a lot of cool movies that you probably would never see otherwise. Pay attention to the movies and take notes, study the notes before class, and you should get an A.
Boring but easy A. You don't need the textbook (never opened it once). Just listen to his lectures. He's really nice, kinda werid, talks alot, he likes discussions (he doesn't pick on anyone, only those who raises their hands). TAKE HIM
Great professor. Class is fun and interesting, though it can feel a bit longer when he shows certain films that only he find interesting. Overall, a good professor, would take him again anytime. Also, don't bother buying the book, take your notes and save yourself $80 or something.
I enjoyed his class. We watched a lot of interesting movies, learned a lot in the process. Write down everything he says. Those who said he was hard/confusing/whatever didn't take good notes. Don't need to buy the book, I bought it and I was stuck with it because I thought I'd be needing it and I didn't dont waste your money like I did!
horrible teacher. his opinions are the fact to him. he doesnt care what anyone says he just loves the sound of his own voice. he rarely knows what he is talking about. would strongly recommend taking another professor for this class.
Good professor. Was helpful. Doesn't pick on students. Will entertain conversations about recent movie releases no matter how lame. Take good notes, read the book, and pay attention and you should do fine. No homework, 4 tests but 3 count.
Professor Windrum is not an easy professor as everyone says. His tests are tricky, and he shows boring movies in his class. It is not an easy A as everybody says. I took good notes and studied them very well and still got B in his class because many questions were not from his notes.
Write down every single thing that he says. Even if you think that he's just rambling on cause you'll see it in the tests. The people who said he was hard didn't take good notes. Attendance is MANDATORY - try not to miss a class or borrow notes from someone. If you enjoy movies you'll like this class. Take him! Also, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!
Boring and stupid very old movies. Sometimes the movies are very annoying. Take a very good note and you'll be alright. Everything he say in class will bring them on the tests.
This guy's great! He totally loves cinema and is definitely an expert. You watch 12 movies throughout the course. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, just take notes on what he says. The tests are very easy if you look over your notes once before the test. Some of the movies were a little boring, but almost all were great. Opened my eyes to good movies!
A stick in the mud could get an A in this class. I never bought a book, never wrote anything other than the words he hinted to write down, never made an extra effort. I received an A on every test. The movies are mostly old but having an open mind helps; they are not unbearable. I definitely suggest taking this for a short semester; very laid back.
Keeps the content interesting easy to follow along. Must attend to watch movies. Test are exactly what he lectures on.
Took class over summer & it's long (over 5 hrs!) & he only gives 2 (sometimes 1) very short breaks. Is that legal? Otherwise, don't miss class (or just get someone's GOOD notes) & should be an easy "A". Don't need book. 3 midterms (lowest dropped) & a final, all scantron. I learned more about film than I thought I would.
BEST professor I've ever had. Very nice and cares about students. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Tests are exactly like lectures so take good notes.
overall a good teacher, keeps the class interesting and understands the areas of the subject that the student may find boring, the problem i had with the class was the fact that it was 5 hours long,we watched 1-2 movies per class but still had about 2-3 hours of lecture as well, after watching the movie though i usually left, class isnt hard to pass
overall a good teacher, keeps the class interesting and understands the areas of the subject that the student may find boring, the problem i had with the class was the fact that it was 5 hours long,we watched 1-2 movies per class but still had about 2-3 hours of lecture as well, after watching the movie though i usually left, class isnt hard to pass
If you know a decent amount about film this class will bore you to death it is so basic. He sort of got on my nerves he would rant about why he hates modern cinema(whihc I love). You never have to use the book and the tests are so easy if you take notes. Maybe 1-3 Qs on the films so u dont even hv to stay for them.
He is really good. I expected an easy A in a subject such as Film but it was as straightforward. If you take the subject seriously you WILL easily get an A. He is fair, the movies are certainly interesting for the most part. Don't take this class if you expect to watch American Pie or The House Bunny.
Over all pretty fair. Tests come straight from lectures and usually 2-5 questions each test regarding that particular weeks movies. Lectures can be boring, but take clear notes, ask questions, and sign in and you will do fine!
I did not like his class at all. I took his class in the Winter and got a "C" in CINEMA 107 which is really a shame because CINEMA is such an easy subject. He was really unhelpful and did not care about his students. Attendance is mandatory & you must read the book.
He's cool very easy. just go to class take notes watch the movie and thats it. The test is on the notes u took and the movie. Just don't talk during the movie and u'll be alright easy A
Never uses textbook, pay attention and take notes and you'll do well. You have to watch horribly boring films, no classics! Lets you eat in class and when the movie is good, class goes by fast. Easy tests, straightforward, easy to follow along on lecture but movies get annoying to watch. Easy A overall, just be prepared for bad films
He's a fun guy, tries to make jokes and keep things light. Pay attention, don't talk during the movie or use cell phones (he will see you) and you'll do well. Should show up to watch most of the movies because they are always on the tests. If you take notes you'll do well. Easy A and you learn some stuff, but boring movies for the most part
Incredibly nice, cool professor. He's extremely passionate and loves to talk about film. He tells jokes and information about every film we view. Highly recommended.
Really cool guy. Loves movies. He demonstrates everything you learn through movies you watch in class. The movies are for the most part ones you have never seen and they are very interesting. If you need help he is friendly. Very unique guy. Taught at UCLA and has a PHD in film. Don't take him if you can't appreciate non-mainstream movies.
i loved him! his class was actually fun, he's a funny guy and his lectures may get a bit bring but i didnt mind. EVERYBODY TAKE HIM. and dont come for the first 5 mins then leave, he will notice!
Windrum is a very cool funny guy who has a passion for film but he does not know how to teach the subject all that well which makes him a bad Professor in my eyes but a really cool person. Everything he says is so dull but at least he makes the class easy --no assignments just 3 tests and drops the lowest score (pretty easy going guy). TAKE!!!
Windrum is the most knowledgable film professor at Pierce College- there is no other professor there who can teach this course as well as he does. His lectures are thought provoking and the films he shows will teach you how to love. Take his class if you genuinely like film.
He has knowledge & passion for film that really shows in his class. I have been a long time film lover and would never take any other professor for film. Tests were easy since I had technical knowledge but not too hard for those who don't as everything is easily explained. If you watch movies to tweet - stay at home. If you love film take him now!
Excellent professor. Sometimes his humor is a little dry, but hey, your there to learn and study the art of cinema. 3 tests with lowest score dropped plus the final. attendance is graded. I'm still trying to get into a film school cause its tough out there but his class definitely added new insight to business of storytelling. Film majors...take it
his screenwriting class was off campus at my hs so I took it concurrently while in 12th grade. why not? he was really awesome. very knowledgable and the class was small which helped because there were frequent peer reviews. the final script was thirty pages but working on it in increments and with frequent feedback made it easy.
I would definately recommend this class to everyone. He notes are concurrent and all you really need for the test. Has a review the class period prior the test day and drops the lowest test (not the final). His sense of humormatched mine, which is dry and sarcastic. The humor was just a plus in attending class.
Easy A. Simple tests. Clever lectures and strange movies. don't bother with the book.
GREAT TEACHER! Super easy class but it's not an easy A where you wont learn something! He's passionate about movies and it shows so much. Textbook is seriously optional, his lectures cover everything and his exams are easy enough if you pay attention.
He's literally obsessed with film. Very very passionate which is good I guess. I got a B in the class and I didn't try that much. If I studied at all I would have gotten an A. I would reccomend him if you HAVE to take cinema but it is extremely boring so I would probably choose another art for general ed purposes.
So sweet and nice. Very very easy, fun, and interesting class highly recommended. Dont get the textbook just study the notes. Attendance is ten percent of your grade. If you study the notes you will get an easy A but you will also learn a lot.
Very funny and intelligent man. I took this class during the summer and was not used to coming every day on a regular semester, but this class was interesting enough to go to. straightforward tests from lectures and slides.
Took the class over summer and it was a relatively easy A. Tests are straight forward and most of it is from his power points which he sends out. Just study the power points and pay attention to discussions after movies and it should be an easy A.
Overall he is a good teacher and very passionate about movies. You have to get the slides and study them in order to get an A. 3 tests and he drops the lowest score and the final all each 30 points. Your attendance is also graded with a sign in sheet and that is out of 10. Only used the textbook if i did not understand something.
Professor Windrum is an education enthusiast regarding film. He is very deliberate about what he is teaching and thoroughly welcomes and enjoys discussions on his lectures and the films he screens. I would take this professor for any film class because I could be assured to learn something of interest and usefulness regarding visual art.
This professor is very unusual. Expect this walk in lecture, about an hour, then a movie. Pretty basic except he says to take notes because the slides are not available until 24 hours before test. Cool , took notes and shows really boring movies some that even put him to sleep. Besides that no extra credit, and his test are exactly on the slides.
The class is getting harder now, but still not difficult to pass. Id recommend him but hes very rude at times.
He's really chill and not hard at all. 3 test and one essay assignment. He says you need the book but I didn't use it and still passed
This class by far is a gem. This time graded on 2 papers, 3 exams, 2 pop quizzes which leaves more margin for error. Love this class, and appreciate the level of effort he poured into this class. Again tries to funny, fails, but passionate. Takes you on a journey timeline of animation. Textbook unnecessary , but attendance is mandatory.
He's a brilliant professor; I came out of his class with a greater appreciation for film. Definitely on the easy side; don't bother reading the book at all since tests are based on the power points and movies. I didn't even touch the book for Midterm 2 and the final yet my lowest score on either of them was a 98%. Dr. Windrum is a very kind person.
Great professor! Showed a lot of films in class which will be on the exam, so don't miss class! Films were fun and interesting and he really likes your feedback on them. His lectures were straight forward and he's open to questions to get you to fully understand the material. Only one paper due around the end of the course. Would highly recommend.
I love Professor Windrum! If i could take any of his other classes for credit I would. I learned a lot about documentary films and have gained a new respect and insight for them. All of the films we watched in class were very interesting and I actually found myself talking about them and showing them to friends and family. Highly recommend.
It's pretty obvious that Prof. Windrum has an insane love for the Cinematic arts. The stuff you learn is pretty basic, and Prof. Windrum doesn't over-bloat what you need to learn. Coming to class is essential as the films he shows will be on the tests. There is a paper due at the end, but it is very easy. If you like film, I'd recommend it with him
Very nice man full of information. He cares to cover the subject for love of it rather than answering the test. Tons of videos. 4 tests lowest dropped.
I took Professor Windrum for Winter session. I had the best time in the class despite the hours for class meetings. He has an amazing passion for Film that I have now adopted from being in his class and hearing his lectures. Take good notes, participate and you'll do great! 3 midterms and 1 final. I got an A in the class and enjoyed it very much.
Knows so much about film and movie history. Simply amazing the knowledge the professor has and his opinion and perspective is comparable to famous heavy hitters in the industry. Learned so much stuff that I never thought I would be interested in. A whole new world was opened up for me to enjoy. Highly recommended.
He's not hard at all, but his lectures are very annoying and boring. I didn't listen to any of his lectures and I aced all of the exams. Super easy class.
He didn't make buying the textbook mandatory, but it definitely helped. Can seem biased on some topics, but it only makes his passion more evident in my opinion. He can make some hilarious snarky comments about certain filmmakers. His sense of humor makes the class all the more enjoyable. Don't think twice about taking his cinema courses.
Very fun class. 3 or 4 exams(forgot how many), and 2 papers. Exams aren't difficult if you study. If you are clear on your essays and back up what you are saying you will do great. Nice guy, may seem to get upset at YOU specifically at times but he's not. I took him in the summer and the cinema room we were in had problems with the AC at times.
Lectures are super long. Tests arent too hard just a lot to remember. Explains things pretty well.
The professor is not as hard as many people take him for. Just show up, Study for the midterms for like an hour before the test day and you'll be fine.
Absolutely awful professor. Sure the class is easy but he has the most obnoxious voice and clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. He answers with "I'm not sure google it" The lectures are boring and he will go on and on about how amazing one movie of that genre/time period is and then play a different one. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Just an all-around frustrating teacher. He is obnoxious and his voice seems to drone. His movie selection is pretty weak. Not hard to pass but not worth the hours of listening to his nonsense. Also doesn't know the answer to any question that is directly written on a slide and in those cases he looks at students like their idiots.
Knowledgeable! Great lectures, film clips, movies, discussions.
I took this class in the afternoon one day a week which meant the class was around 4 hours long. Unless you're deeply interested in either cinema or history, I wouldn't recommend taking a class like this because after a while, it gets tiring. Professor Windrum was fine. Films were great but the lectures were boring. Tests were easy. No book needed.
Professor Windrum is an all around great professor and a nice guy too who encourages discussion and participation. Given the courses are about Cinema he is very open to not just opinionated discussion but technical as well and is more than happy to ask students their thoughts on just about any subject as he is happy to learn from us too.
Look, man. Ken's my favorite teacher. I've taken every class he's offered, straight up. If you don't have a great time in his class, it's because you're not allowing yourself to. He gives you all the resources you could need and cares enough to make time for you if you can't dissect them on your own.
the class isn't hard, but he is too annoying for it to be worth it. 90% of the class is him complaining and being rude to students. I think most of the teachers at Pierce are genuinely enthusiastic about teaching, but he seems like he hates it. The tests are easy and the movies he shows weren't my personal favorite but they weren't bad
Long classes but a great professor. This professor is very passionate about teaching cinema and it leaks into his courses. He makes the courses easy to understand and doesn't care about dates as long as you get the general idea of what was happening during that time period.
Well this class is ok. lots of movies and super boring lectures. Essays are not to bad but the comments he makes makes you feel low. he's really rude and has something to say about everything. He's super sarcastic and is just plain rude to the students. if you have a question make sure it's legit or he'll embarrass you in front of the class.
He knows what he is talking about and you'll learn a lot of stuff that make you a better audience of film and TV at least.
Mr. Windrum is a solid choice. He was very clear of what his expectations were. Everything on exams were in his lectures so make sure you don't miss one. He gives good feedback on the essays.
An easy class that consists of watching a lot of shows, old films, and old radio stations. The class is mainly focused on taking notes which are also accessible on canvas. The only difficult part would be having to memorize a lot of notes for the midterms. He sometimes makes discussions fun, but can get really boring during the notes and lecture.
If you don't go to class you will not pass. Most material is covered in lecture and you watch a lot of material in class that you are tested on. There are lots of opportunities for study sessions which is great. The textbook wasn't really necessary for me. Luckily he drops your lowest midterm and quiz score. Overall a very fun and informative class
Expect a pop quiz in the first 5 minutes of any class. There are no extra credit opportunities to try and bring your grade up. To make matters worse he grades term papers very strictly so don't expect to make up any points there. I'd say just focus on the exams for the big points if you want to pass. If raunchy films offend you then don't take him.
This class was quite fun learning about history in tv and cinema. The professor always showed his opinion and never mocked other students take on a subject. Makes you feel involved with the class when discussing the material. Gonna wanna show up for this class, for attendance, and watching the shows that will be on the test.
This was my third cinema class with Ken, and I really learned a lot from him. He is the most knowledgeable cinema teacher in Pierce College, and if you love cinema, you will enjoy his class.
online 5 wk summer. good prof but he's super boring. video lectures. every 2 days u watch a boring movie and do a canvas discussion. 2 midterms and 1 final. no extra credit and no projects. the movies are from the 1900s. U DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. he makes a big deal out of buying it but I didn't and never needed it.
I just took Summer B session Cinema 107 with professor Windrum and his class was overall great. He really makes sure you understand the material and as long as you listen in class and study your notes it should be very easy to receive an A. No homework just lectures and tests. He is a nice professor and is always accessible when you need him.
Clear expectations. Great lectures with accompanying examples. Not a film major but enjoyed the class immensely and now have a great foundational understanding of films.
If you like cinema and storytelling take this class. Ken is one of the best teachers in Pierce, and he likes what he does. I learned a lot from him, and I will never forget him my whole life.
This class was great to say the least. Workload was very manageable and as long as you know the material you will get a good grade. Lecture were only once a week and everything you learn is very interesting. It was a great class and you should definitively take it if you're considering taking it.
Whoever is a major in cinema must take Professor Windrom's class. He provides a lot of great info about the history of cinema. About exams, if you read PowerPoint and listen to his lecture and take notes, you'll be fine. About discussions, please be aware, watch the movie and then answer his question in detail.
Professor Windrum was one of the first professors I took and he was great. You read a few pages of the free textbook, watch a lecture, watch a movie and write a simple 2 paragraph essay. One assignment each week. He is a GREAT! professor, such an easy class I would 100% recommend for anyone needing the credit. 2 midterms and 1 final. HE IS GREAT!!!
I took cinema 107 with him last semester for my IGETC and enjoyed it so much I am taking 104 right now and 003 next semester for fun. The movies are (mostly) great and for me these classes are easy A's. He's a very easy grader for the discussions if you properly answer the discussion prompt and he does a review a week before every exam
Professor Windrum is great. He really cares about film and you can tell by the way he talks about it. Weekly essays were more like discussion posts. Sometimes the content was tricky to remember, making the midterms iffy but if you study and pay attention in class you will be okay. He loves when people participate. I highly recommend him.
I loved this class! Tests and assignments are easy. Testing is mostly from PowerPoint slides used during lecture. Professor was very knowledgeable and engaging. Every movie he showed was a classic and must see. If you love cinema you will appreciate this class. The instructor is an easy grader and if you do the work you should succeed.
Get ready to read and type. Writing a script is much harder than I thought it would be but the professor was very helpful in breaking the dynamics down. Lectures were very informational and fun to listen to. He is very helpful and easy to talk to. I highly recommend.
Really nice and kind guy. Only a few assignments the entire year, make sure you do good on them. Enjoyed getting to watch all kinds of movies.
One of the best professors I had. I was nervous about screenwriting as someone who worries more than they should with criticism, but he gives great, detailed, helpful criticism. He screens many cool films and has great discussions/guest speakers as well. The class itself calls for a lot of writing though, which is something to keep in mind.
I have taken professor Windrum's Cinema 113 class in the spring semester, he is very patient and understanding to those who need accommodations, his office hours are very flexible, he responds to emails right away which is super helpful, he did give us a textbook but did not need to use it for journal entry assignments, take good notes in lectures.
I took this class as a summer course and I would say it's pretty easy. You watch a video lesson then do the reading of the textbook which is optional but recommend. Then you watch a movie and then answer some questions on the discussion post. He's leaves great feedback but is a tough grader. But you should never get less than 4 points out of 5.
Professor Windrum's CIN107 is an engaging class. While attendance is mandatory, the workload is manageable. Utilize unstuck ai alongside the free textbook to prepare for exams and essays. Overall, an informative and rewarding course.
