Professor Hoang is a very good Professor he does care about his students its just that anatomy is a very hard subject. For me it is harder than chemistry and microbiology. So to say you can't blame the professor he's good its just that the material is hard. I enjoyed being in his class and I'm taking him for physiology next semester!
Helpful, straight-forward and fair. Anatomy is a difficult subject and it falls on the student to put in the work to pass the course no matter who the professor is. But professor Hoang is there to help and push you as a student to put in the effort needed to not only pass the course but get a firm grasp on Human anatomy. I would recommend
There is so much material to know & he doesn't make it easier with lack of study guides, no helpful extra credit or assignments and littke clarity for exams. Multiple choice is hard. Practical is memorization so study diagrams! He's smart, but doesn't care for you as in individual. He's nice but not very lenient. I study a lot and barely passing.
Anatomy is a tough subject and requires a lot of studying time but Prof. Hoang lectures were helpful for me. He provides real clinical examples to help connect the materials and make them easier to understand. I would definitely recommend Prof. Hoang.
Hands down the best professor I've had! Professor Hoang is very fair, caring and extremely helpful. Additionally, he is very knowledgable about the subject. His lectures are precise and the tests are representative of the material he goes over in class. It was a pleasure taking him and hopefully I can take him again for Human Physio.
He gives slides and it helps. Its anatomy, there is no other way to put it. Read and constantly study diagrams and memorize everyday to pass the class with an A!
Reading is key along with coming to class and doing the labs. Dr. Ken is super helpful and answers your questions when he can. He is also clear with what will be on the exam even though there wasn't much of a study guide. Coming to lecture was important because it was there when you will find out what will be on the exam. I enjoyed his humor!
Dr. Ken is a really smart doctor. It's cool to hear some real world experiences of his. Lectures are long (just pp) and tests are tough.. U must study. Diagrams in book are what's used on test so that's nice it's not a random Google Image. Some dissections. No study guides. Isn't easy but prob easier than other profs. New prof so he's learning too
Dr. Ken is the kind of professor who doesn't give anything away. You have to work for your grade in his class but if he sees you trying he is willing to help you in anyway. His tests are long and you need to do the reading to do well. Overall he's an excellent prof and I'd recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Hoang is such a nice and patient professor so far I have taken. Not easy but always there when you need him and give you answer. Lectures are clear but long. Test is hard but is covered in lecture. If you show up in class, listen to his lecture, read book and slides, and do homework then you will be fine for this class.
what a great professor! Very funny, smart, and helpful guy but not an easy grader. His exams are tough but he clearly covers everything in his lecture. Read book and slides then you can't fail the exam. Plus you will earn extra credit. One more credit that you can get in his class is his awesome experience. Looking forward taking him again.
Prof Hoang was a great teacher. The class itself was VERY hard for me, I barely passed with a C but not because of Ken. Don't miss class, find a good group to study with and go to the extra lab study days if they still have them (ours were on saturdays?) this class really prepared me for Physiology, I got an A in that. Def recommend
I took Anatomy with Professor Hoang and musr say taking Physiology with him was the best choice ever. He really cares about his students and does offer extra credit to help make up points you might have missed on lab/exams. Beaware this isnt a easy class because of the subject. If you can take him for Anatomy or Physio take him without a doubt!
He's a really great professor, despite tests being on the hard side but plenty of opportunities to get credit for labs, hw and in-class exercises. He truly cares about students and made time for test reviews. Tests cover the lectures, hw, and readings. It's a hard subject but he makes it fun and relatively painless. Would highly recommend him.
Dr. Ken is very helpful . Study the chapters before lectures, do review question and attend the class every time. Study every day and you will be successful. He is really nice
Professor Hoang is the BEST!! I took his class for Anatomy and Physio and I enjoyed them very much. He cares a lot about his students and is always there to help. Attendance is mandatory and make sure you come to class prepared and ready for pop quizzes. This is a very tough course and it requires a lot of hard work. Thanks Dr. Hoang!!
Amazing professor. He explains very well. I liked his class a lot. Best anatomy and physiology professor at lavc campus. Take him you won't regret it makes the class fun and not boring!
An awesome professor. Took his time and explained the material. Don't know how well I did in his class but that isn't a reflection on him what-so-ever. More of family and work took priority rather than school this semester. It's become almost a rarity to come across professors that enjoy teaching so much it becomes translated in their methods.
Get ready to read. Physiology is really hard but plenty of opportunities to get credit for labs, homework and in-class exercises. He cares about students and made time for test reviews. Tests or pop quizzes cover the lectures, all homework and readings. It's a hard subject but he makes it fun and relatively painless. Would highly recommend him.
good professor, likes to help the students and takes his time to answer questions or give advice always. be aware that you must study and learn, not just memorize, lots of homework, readings and lab exercises weekly. extra credit available. very difficult subject, but this professor makes it look easy, good lectures, take good notes-it really helps
So glad I stumbled upon him. He is young, relatable, knows ALOT about the health field, which has inspired/prepared me 4 my nursing career. This class is NOT easy, no matter what teacher u take, so expect to spend 1/2 of your week studying. Watch khan videos, READ! His lectures and personal stories are very interesting. Very nice guy. Super caring!
You must attend class and read the book. Without reading you won't pass. Try to stay ahead in lecture and pay attention to the small details. Extra credit is offered. Test can be difficult.
The professor is a doctor, so he has personal anecdotes and experiences that make lectures interesting. He also genuinely wants his students do as well as they can. That said, there's a lot to read, and a lot study. Tests aren't easy, but are representative of the readings. This is a class you'll def want to read ahead for if you want to do well.
I had Dr. Ken for Physio & Anatomy; both are TOUGH. Dr. Ken could improve upon his lectures, to make material easier to understand, but he cares and wants you to pass. Go to all classes & labs; utilize the tutoring lab for studying. Read chapters before lecture if you can, to make the material easier to understand in class. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY.
Prof Hoang is my guru. He is smart, funny, and has an amazing attitude. He respects his students and teaches the material well. He genuinely wants his students to do succeed. A true gem at WCU.
Highly recommended excellent professor excellent teaching skills and definately shows he wants to see success in his students.
Iconic Professor contributed illuminating and absorbing lectures, a treasure in the LAVC Bio mine field
Get ready to work hard for your grade. Tests are tough! I recommend to take this class alone. Lots of reading and studying. Also, he takes forever to grade papers, be aware of that. Other than that, he's pretty okay.
I highly recommend Dr. Hoang! He has been such an inspirational professor that always presented the material in a way that is both organized and easy to understand. I didn't get an A in the class because of a busy schedule that didnt allow me to put enough time into reviewing the lecture material as needed. But it's definitely possible with him!
I definitely recommend Dr. Ken Hoang to anyone taking a class that he is teaching because his lectures and unique methods of teaching are excellent. He will take the time to ensure every single student is doing the best they can to succeed and attendance is mandatory. Very highly recommended to everyone given the opportunity to take his class.
Dr. Ken is an awesome professor. If you show up, take the class seriously, and STUDY, you will do just fine. Be proactive. His lectures make sense. He doesn't try to trick you on tests. He's straight forward on what he wants you to know. Being on time is critical. He's smart and knows his stuff. One of the best prof. I've had here at LAVC.
Hands down, my most favorite professor, a true gem at dim LAVC. Everyone loves him, connects with students, he's a student magnet, fabulous teacher, take him!!
I took Physiology with Professor Hoang & had an amazing experience. I would highly recommend taking any of his courses. He is an exceptional professor and explains the material in a way that is not only clear, but interesting and engaging. As an MD, he also shared cool stories of pathology! If you put in effort to study, the hard work will pay off.
The best physiology professor! This mans course structure is exactly what school needs to be. As a practicing RN, I can tell you the lectures are excellent and focus on actual physiology needed in the clinical setting. This man provides a relaxed learning environment that allows you to LEARN PHYSIOLOGY! Easy A if YOU put in the work!
Prof. Hoang is an incredibly nice man who cares about his students. I found physiology to be a difficult subject that requires a lot of study time. Prof. Hoang keeps lectures (PPT slides) interesting and easy to follow. His lectures are the most important portion of his class. Tests are doable if you put in time and STUDY. I would recommend!!
Professor Hoang is an amazing professor! Physiology overall is a very hard subject! His lectures are crystal clear! Get ready to read! He is very helpful and also has a sense of humor which makes class fun!
Dr Ken, Is one of the best Physio teachers that I have had. Although the subject is difficult he wants you to succeed and truly cares about his students. However don't expect an easy A. You get what you put in within this class. You must read and really comprehend the information don't just memorize it. Questions?Dr Ken was always avail. to help
Dr. Ken is one of the best professors that I've ever had. He has a way of breaking down the most difficult concepts in ways that his students can easily understand. He's highly intelligent, professional, HILARIOUS and he's also a medical doctor! If you can't pass Dr. Ken's class, you will not pass any physiology class. Any bad reviews are FAKE NEWS
Dr. Ken is a great guy. He's funny and you can tell he really cares about the success of his students, but I found his teaching to be a bit mediocre. His lectures are mostly just him reading the slides, which are copied straight from the text, and sometimes he gets a bit off topic, making the lecture even longer. No study guides but tests are easy.
Dr. Hoang is a blessing to the Physiology department at LAVC! Do yourself a favor and take him. His lectures and exam material are manageable. If you want an A read the book and study lecture slides, if you are okay with a B studying the slides should be enough. Grades labs and final project fairly. Encourages you to do great, gives Extra Credit!!!
Professor Hoang is an amazing professor, he is very knowledgeable in his field. Im gonna get this clear he is NOT an easy teacher, this class is extremely difficult and it takes a lot of time to comprehend. Just because he is nice and respected does not mean this class is easy whatsoever. Work hard for your grade and he gives 5 points extra credit.
Professor Hoang is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students. Since Physiology is a hard subject, he made the class so easy for the students. His class presentations made the topics easy and understandable. Tests were not easy but if anyone read the book, and follow his powerpoint slides then he/she can do well. Most of all he made o
Most of all he made our class environment so easy that I never tensed about the class than other classes with other professors.
Physiology is super hard but Professor Hoang is very knowledgeable and caring when it comes to his students, you are comfortable with asking him anything and he gives extra credit opportunities here and there. He also drops your lowest exam. One thing i did not like is that he does not give study guides for the exams because it is a lot of info
Professor Hoang is one of the best professors I've ever taken! He's so kind, very approachable, hilarious, and just overall awesome! READ THE TEXTBOOK GUYS! His exams are based on mostly the textbook. He gives 5 points extra credit and there's 1 very easy group presentation as well as 1 practical exam. He drops your lowest exam score :)
Professor Ken is the absolute best! Physio is a hard subject, but he makes it super understandable and fun. He is super caring and knowledgeable. READ THE BOOK AND TAKE NOTES!!!! Offers extra credit, there is a group project, and dont miss lab! It is not easy, but if you do your part youll get the A!
Professor Hoang is a good professor and willing to do everything for the sake of his students. He breaks down the information into simplest form to make it relatable. He focuses in the most important information that can be useful in real life. Just read the book and also his slides and youll do great in the class. Highly recommended!
Dr. Hoang is truly a professional at his craft as both a distinguished erudite in the field of medicine as well as a dedicated mentor to students. If you are serious about entering the healthcare industry, this is irreplaceable. Dr. Hoang provides relevant, comprehensible material, well designed assignments, and a platform to reach your goals :)
Dr. Hoang is the best professor. Physio is a tough subject and takes lots of time but his lectures and labs are very interesting and makes you study more . His exams are very straight forward! If you'll read the book and study the power points you'll be fine. He really cares about his students. If you can take his class! You won't regret!!)
Dr. Ken Hoang is an outstanding professor. He is an M.D. so you're definitely learning from the best. The lectures are the big picture. The book is essential in breaking things down more and learning the functions of all systems. If you work hard and study an "A' is not only possible, but you will finish the class feeling empowered and ready 4 more
Lectures are pointless. Make sure to buy the book. All exams including lab are all from book. 1 group present (3min per person) 1 lab exam of 5 chapters(not hard) EC (written not mul choice) is 5pts on most exams but very hard to memor charts 5 lect exams (80 Qs) mul ch , PS get ready to study 5 hours very day 7 days a week in any Phys1.
Dr. Hoang breaks down the material during lecture. But he will include a few questions on the test that might not be in his class lecture So you're better off reading the book before class. Go to his office hrs. If you want to score an A in the class prepare for test as they count for about 80% of the class grade. Labs are only about 15%. # Funny
Dr. Ken Hoang is an outstanding professor. He is one of the best professors that I had. He is so knowledgable and organized. He is MD, so he explains the materials clearly. He breaks down the information into simple forms to make them understandable. I definitely recommended him especially for students who want to enter in health care fields.
I have never been so inspired to get into nursing as I do now. Dr. Ken loves his students and really cares about us. He makes the lectures fun and engages with personal stories as he teaches the material. He gives so many opportunities to succeed and pass with an A. With hard work and motivation I was able to do so well in this class!!!
Dr. Ken is one of the best Professors I have ever had. You grow to have lots of respect for this man! He TRULY cares about his students and give it his all. His lectures are fun and entertaining, you are never bored. You must put in the effort in order to pass, this isn't a slide by class. Dr. Ken YOU are one of a kind thank you for ALL that you do
Professor Hoang is probably the best physio professor Valley has to offer. His lectures are a bit fast paced but he will always answer questions you have. He is approachable, kind, and funny. He is a MD and knows a lot on how to help his students succeed in the medical field. I highly recommend him if you are interested in taking this course.
TAKE HIM! physio is a cut throat class, but Dr. Hoang prepares you for a career in the medical field. Because he is a medical doctor, he relates all of the material to a hospital setting. if you want a social life, dont take micro concurrent with this class. i passed with As in both classes, but i gave up an arm and a leg for it. to be contd pt1
Dr Ken Hoang is the best physiology professor. He has the true passion for teaching. He is very knowledgeable. The lectures are very interesting, you'll learn a lot from him. He always gives examples to make the materials easier to understand. He is very kind and respectful toward his students. I would definitely recommend him.
If you want an A you should read all the chapters in the book, study the power points, and complete all labs. He is a good teacher who grades fairly. I would take this class again.
Dr. Ken was an amazing professor to have! He really made this physiology evening course enjoyable. If you want to pass the exams, READ the book! His prerecorded lectures help, but they weren't enough to solidify your full understanding of physiology. If you have questions, being them up during class as he clarifies in more detail. 10/10 RECOMMEND!
Dr. Ken Hoang is amazing!! I have no words to describe how wonderful he is! I truly believe professors can either set you up for the future or totally let you down. Dr. Hoang truly sets you up for whats next to come. If I can take him for all of my classes I would! Please consider taking him for any classes he is teaching! Hes amazing!
I don't normally rate professors, but I had to for Dr. Hoang. He really cares about his students and is very engaging when it comes to what he teaches. I also wouldn't normally take a professor again, but if I were to choose one it would be him. He makes lectures something to look forward to and he's good at explaining topics. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Great Professor!! Just wants to help his students get a good grade. You can ask him any questions and he'll gladly answer. 4 exams and then the final. Drops lowest (not final). No quizzes. Read the book and study quizlet. Weekly assignments due end of Friday. 2 EC opportunities and powerpoint presentation (easy) at end of the semester.
Took back in Spring 2019 and I have to say he is a brilliant professor. Not only does he have an incredible medical background, but he is also just a humorous guy. He really only lectures about the information critical to the medical field, such as nursing. Now, i'm a nursing student and let me tell you, what he taught has helped me tremendously.
Dr Hoang is a great professor. He answers all your questions. There were about 4 students in my class that asked alot of off topic questions and sucked up alot but he put a stop to that and focused on what we needed to actually know for the exams. 5 exams and weekly labs due every Friday. 1 group project and extra credit opportunities. Very nice.
Just take him you wont regret.
If you are the kind who is so worried of whether you will ever pass physio, just take him please. Its exactly who i was when i was enrolling for the class las fall, he groomed me to pass the class excellently. take him if you have a chance.
Dr. Ken is a great professor! His teaching style is amazing and it helps if you work full-time. Very knowledgeable. Very helpful. Very understanding. Funny too! One of the best professors in LAVC.
Please avoid this class. So far, from this course, everything is unorganized. The lectures make no sense to the material we are supposed to be learning. Read the TEXT BOOK. It seems like you need to teach yourself. The whole class seems confused, and the students seem to be helping themselves. He is a very nice man, however the class is complicated
Professor is very unorganized and does not know how to teach. Basically teaching myself through the semester and his recorded lectures are just him reading through the powerpoint slides. He mentions how his tests are off the lectures but you'll find much it much more useful to teach yourself and just to read the book. this guy sucks don't recommend
Self-taught class, lectures pre-recorded, majority of test questions are not from lectures. Does not help students when entire class is struggling. Test averages were 60's, only 3 students received A's. DON'T recommend this teacher if not able to dedicate entire life to studying. Refuses to work with class to improve grades.
Horrible.
Take his class and find out why these 5 ratings are not real.
DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Does not teach because self-taught class.
He likes to mislead students on what will be on his tests. Never available to help.
He is lazy and does not teach. Entire class is struggling and average is 60s.
He could care less whether the class is struggling. Most students are averaging Ds.
Nothing he does helps students! Zero help!
IF YOUR GPA MATTERS DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I cannot stress enough how this class ruined my GPA. The professor is unhelpful & does not care that you are struggling. Everyone has D's or F's in class. You will teach yourself! Devote ALL your time to study or you will not pass! Extremely misleading with info for exams and grades!Take someone else!
One very negligent and uncaring teacher. Students sink instead of swimming.
This teacher crushes students dreams of becoming nurses. Beware!
Physiology is hard to begin with. His not teaching, and his misleading students constantly made the class a hundred times more difficult.
Ay! Stay away from this teacher. Should have dropped him sooner
You have to learn how to 100 percent teach yourself or else you will not pass this class. He makes passing very hard
Self taught class. Very disorganized. Uncaring.
Physiology is already a hard course and this session they implemented this course to be 8 weeks instead of 16. The professor is a great person but not organized enough to be teaching an 8-week. He is always ready to answer questions but when asked doesn't know what's on his own tests. Be wary that only 1/4th of the class passed at most.
He would leave us struggling to do labs ourselves. No one is holding him accountable for this.
I got an A+ in this class but I observed that most of the class struggled. If you need the professor to hold your hand through everything and you like to ask questions on minute details about what will be on the next exam, this class is not for you. Students who can learn independently and like figuring things out on their own will thrive.
I am the type of person that only uses the teacher as an extra resource but I never relied on him. To pass, you really have to learn on your own which luckily I am good at. He is not accessible outside of class and doesn't assist much with labs but he gave plenty of opportunity for extra credit and even made exams easier by removing the essays.
These previous 2 ratings were done by the teacher, written with his point of view. Our class did not have 2 A+s most of the class was averaging Ds
I have never experienced a teacher who would actually leave the classroom and labs and only to return when is class is almost over. Who does that and still is employed?
It is painfully obvious that this teacher spends no time preparing for this class and refuses to teach or do his job.
To be honest he made tests much worse than what you were led to expect. And he ghosts students. I had to email him more than several times this last few days and he was missing in action as always
Whoever posted that he is LECTURE HEAVY is a LIE. This teacher is a LIE. His video lectures are his reading slides.
I like teachers who care about students or appreciate it they at least try to teach. He does not. Take any other class other than his.
In comparison to other incompetent teachers I would have to say he spends more time making up excuses for not being of help or being accessible.
HE LEFT US ALONE IN CLASS AND WOULD JUST POP IN TOWARDS THE LAST 5 MINUTES OF LABS TO SHOW FACE!!
Very chaotic. Not organized Sets us up for failure
I am the kind of person who hopes the department of biology is not aware at all of his negligence and poor work behavior of regularly leaving classes unattended.
I do not recommend this professor take anyone else but him. I understand this is a tough class, but this class was so much harder due to the lack of help and organization from this professor! I regret taking him and now setting myself up to take this course yet again because it was impossible to pass unless you quit your job and study all day!!
I think most of us in the class knew that physiology is a hard class and I think not many of us expected the teacher to holds hands and baby us. But even when we asked him questions he would not teach or explain.
It is one thing for the teacher to be a so called extra resource, and another thing to be completely basically absent, unavailable both IN and OUT of class, leaving labs unattended!! Stay away from this teacher
8 week physio course is difficult, only meeting 2 days a week and an online lecture heavy course, it was shown that it would be independent. I was studying 3-4 hours per day and passed. Generous with EC, and assignment grading. If you need someone to baby you don't take him. If you are independent take him. It's possible. YT, Quizlet, google, helps
None of the few recent positive reviews are real. Shame on this teacher. No one should pay someone for being a liar.
The biology department can save a lot of money by just having proctors like a lab tech be the teacher for the class. After all, this teacher did not teach and justifies it as him not babying.
Never felt comfortable with him. Sketchy. Happy to have dropped him and so is my friend who also dropped him
Unfortunately a very negative experience. Never again
Worst experience
Hi everyone if you want a professor who cares and help you succeed take Professor Hoang, awesome professor and funny! . Follow the outline in the lecture do all the assignments in Pearson which helps prepare for exams, do all the labs and show up. 1 group presentation. plenty of extra credit. You need at least 1 day for each chapter.
If u take anything from this, READ THE BOOK. You'll understand his lecture BETTER if u read. Can't stress this enough. Use the audiobook if u want. I did. YOUTUBE HELPS- YT channels dedicated to explaining phys topics. He gives plenty of EC & 1 group project. Working FT & this class is possible. You have to put in work to get the grade that u want.
he does not teach anything
Very bad choice to stay in his class
He never lectures. Class is waste of time.
If I could take professor Hoang again, I would. He is the best professor LAVC has to offer. He offers a great amount of extra credit and even allows students to retake an exam. This is my first time giving a professor a rating. He truly deserves all the best ratings.
Bad professor.
LAVC should lose accreditation because of poor teachers like him.
honestly....... probably the worst professor I have ever took. talks a lot during lecture (which I don't mind IF I AM BEING TAUGHT), but he doesn't teach well in my opinion. doesn't tell you whats going to be on the test, rather makes you study 200 powerpoints and lectures, expecting you to know everything. tough grader. never taking him again.
If you want to get committed at a psych ward, take this professor. If you value your life and sanity, avoid at all costs.
LAVC should fire him
Who is supervising him when he leaves class and does not teach?
A tough but great class. The human body has an incredibly complex design but Dr. Ken's lectures made it accessible. As an MD, he has a clear and practical understanding of the material and gives it over articulately. The homework and online labs could be tedious. The exams are demanding but fair but he's generous with extra credit opportunities.
I highly recommend choosing this particular professor, especially for those planning to select a healthcare profession. As an MD, he provides much information beyond the subject. His lectures are easy to remember. Many opportunities to get extra credits. The professor is intelligent, always respectful, and, most importantly, with a sense of humor.
Dr.Hoang is very straight forward. He follows his syllabus which means it is what it says, nothing out of left field. He gives plenty of extra credit.Labs are quite easy. The hardest part are his exams, but like any other class you have to put in the time.If you want to take Physiology this is the guy to take it with. Highly recommended
This professor likes to talk a lot, and as informative as it is, it is not enough to pass this class. You only get graded on your exams, which are incredibly hard in wording and in the choices. He has no sympathy as this is how medical exams are when you are trying to go in med school. Disappointed in how unreachable he is through email.
This professor is really organized. On the canvas he gives you all the power points and sources you need during the term. You need mastering A&P for this class online book. He offered extra credits by giving the assignment which is to help you to get a good grade. If you prepare before the class you will doing good in the exams.
Dr. Ken is straight forward with his students. If you put in the time you should have positive results. Everything is on the syllabus. He also makes adjustments throughout the semester to accommodate the entire class. He wants you to learn and cares. Labs are easy. The exams are more challenging but if you study you should be fine
Dr. Ken always made his lectures interesting. He discusses the topics and gives real life examples which I found helpful. The exams were pretty straight forward. All the material on the exam was on the slides and he gives a study guide. If you show up for class and study for the exams it's pretty doable. I would definitely recommend.
Dr. Ken was one of, if not, the best professor I had at LA Valley! His lectures are amazing. He is able to take a topic and expand on the real world applications. Dr.Ken truly cares about teaching and wants his students to do well inside and outside of the classroom. Class material is hard, but he more than prepares you to do well in this class!
I really liked this class. It's super helpful for my major. The professor was very clear about his expectations and graded us fairly. Challenging subject matter but completely worth it.
