Good teacher if you speak up, ask ?'s.
He Sux.. when he writes on the board.. he stands in front of it so u can't see anyting .. and by the time he is done writing he he is on the 5th problem.. dont take em
Trigonometry. Over half the class dropped or flunked. Refuses to curve. Tests are difficult and he's picky. Explanations are O.K. but if you care about your GPA -- avoid him!!!
do not, do not, do not take this man unless you HAVE to. he doesnt teach a thing, but if you want to learn on your own, then this is the class for you.
Teaches straight from the book and doesn't give much additional insight. Test are difficult, average score in my class was in the 60s. I would only recommend him if you don't mind putting in a lot of time out of class to studying for the course.
Not very clear and is not that helpful. Doesn't seem to care if the students "get it".
You will fail if you take this teacher!
Excellent teacher
Very knowledgeable and helpful.
This man is a good teacher. Students have problem with him simply because math is hard for them. I agree that this man might loose you sometimes in class, what you have to do is practice, practice and practice the problems. He does not check H.W. The test are not hard or easy, as long as you practice and study everyday, you are on your way to an A.
Oh he's a fine teacher...ask questions if your puzzled and keep asking until you understand. His tests are fair..and he'll give partial credit. I made an 'A'..i dont think its right to hate a teacher b/c they wont just hand you an A...theres way too much of that already.
He couldn't understand my questions and he didn't really care. Not so bad but not good either.
Do not, Do not, Do not take this man, he is not helpful.
Very good DE teacher.Has a good balance between theory and applications.
Half of his class failed because He didn't understand student's questions and students didn't understand him and he didn't even given a dime about them.
has a firm grasp of the subject.will require you to read though coz he aint no push over
He is suck! His test has a lot of tricky question. Most students in the class got B because he can't explain.
The best math teacher at Richland. If you love and understand math, take him without thinking and just sit and enjoy his wonderful lectures. If you strugle with math, ask questions the second you get confused, and he will clearly walk you step by step til you get it.Highly recomended!!!
he's a wonderful teacher! he is very helpful when you dont understand something at the beginning of class for how ever long it takes. he gives homework, not for a grade, but for practice for the test. his tests are just like the homework;not complex. of course, you need to study and practice like any other math class. i higly recommend him!
I took him for like 4 classes. He talks to the board, love the word "Well", and his test is 10 problems from homework. If you can stay awake in his class...More power to you!
An excellent pro. very knowlagable and very clear in his lecture and homework and tests. For every question, he got a well satastying answer. If you love math, this is the teatcher you want to take all your math classes with.
I had no trig in H.S., College Algebra 2.5 years previous. I had a very hard time understanding lectures. Spent ALOT of time outside class learning on my own. If you are taking in summer plan on tons of studying. he knows his stuff, but I think he forgets we are learning, not refreshing the course. Fair grading, fair teacher, just HARD
I came from UT expecting an easy summer class and turned out to be a challenge. Great teacher though and made an A. Interesting and I learned a lot
hes a wonderful teacher. he teaches very well. you must practice practice PRACTICE! u must! if u have q's he'll answer them very well. he'll go over homework question at the beginning or class and then teach. his tests are very if not exactly like the homework. he ever so kind and sweet. i went to his office for more help and got it. made an A!
He answers homework questions at the beginning of class, which is really nice. Summer session moves quickly, but I think he taught it really well. He's not particularly exuberant but I didn't mind- it meant he wasn't annoying. Tests were straightforward.
Good Teacher. His tests consist of 8 TO 10 QUESTIONS ONLY. He does not allow you to use a calcalutor on the FIRST TWO TESTS. So if you like using a calcalator and having more than 10 questions on a test do not take him.
Took for college algebra. Hated this class. He thinks we should know everything already. Entire class talked every day before he got there about how no one could understand anything he was saying. If we asked questions he didn't answer well. Dull and dry sense of humor. 10 question tests- But, he does give partial credit on problems.
The last poster is full of bull. Mr Lott is not rude at all. This is the second math course I have had him for, and he is hard, but fair and knowledgeable.
He is a hard teacher. His class is very boring. Doesnt give any extra credit. But his tests are not that hard. U wont understand what he teaches.U gotta stusy on ur own.
He is a kind and helpful professor, who likes to teach.I took him for calcII. All the class could see that he had very hard time teaching the class, probably he doesn't ve good experiences but there is lack of good math teachers in Richland. its not his fault he can't teach, he just can't do it.So,study hard & it'll be ok.
All these people who are giving him a low rating: don't whine if he can't put it all for you in your head. That's your job. And this class is EASY. His tests are usually 10-20 questions and are EXACTLY what he goes over in class. No tricks at all. Gives you EXACT reviews so you don't have to waste times studying other stuff. Take him. Not rude btw.
he has been teaching math at Richland ever since it opened and his experienced is his strength. This is my third class with him. It seems like he tries to help us get a good grade without being too easy. He will take all the time in the world to try to make things clear for you.
He's nice and helpful. His tests are fair. I recommend
he's really nice if you do ur homework and take notes in class, you would do fine.
His class is okay, test and final exam are easy because those are alike with his homework. He is easy in his grading. But his class is really bored but I guess MATH is not a amusing course. Need to work by yourself, because it is hard sometime to get his ideas. 3 test and one final comprehensive exam. Overal he is nice guy.
he's nice guy. His tests are okay and it come exactly what he taught and homework online. U gonna get A
Took him for Cal2 for Spr08 semester. Class was easy, do the homework like a good student and you'll be fine. There were 4 tests and a comprehensive final, all about 10 questions long. He grades fairly, not a lot of the technical BS that most math profs do. He's a pleasant person as well, albeit a bit corny.
AVOID! The most boring math teacher you could find. Quizes are due every couple of days. He doesn't know how to use computers or MyMathLab. Explanations of concepts are poor. Warning: be prepared to teach yourself or get tutoring. If you have trouble staying awake in class don't take his class. He is a nice guy, but boring! No calculator on tests.
great teacher, study and do your homework and you will do good. he is helpful if you go ask for help
Great teacher and easy to understand .do the home work and quizes you be fine
Mr. Lott is a great professor. If you do your homework and ask questions you will get a good grade, plain and simple. He'll be more than glad to help you, in class or during his office hours and will do a homework review session the first 15-20 mins of class. He made me love math once again, so thank you professor Lott. IR
Very thorough lecturer. Focuses too much on proofs instead of actual examples of calculus problems. Gives partial credit on tests but also takes points off for improper steps. Lectures don't cover everything, you will still have to teach yourself quite a bit. I'm convinced calculus is hard not matter who teaches it.
He is a nice teacher. Grades fairly. I would recommend everyone to take his class.
Excellent professor. Clear in his lectures and helpful, but also provides proofs for students who are interested. Very fair. Is patient with students who ask obvious questions, but wants to challenge everyone. Math is what it is...if you don't find it easy, then find a professor who is effective at teaching it...Prof. Lott is one of those people.
Professor Lott is a great person, but when it comes to teaching he is horrible!!! I love math...but i hated his class...he does not go through problems clearly and he doesnt even explain them. If you like teaching yourself then take him!!
Prof Lott is a nice old guy, but VERY unclear. He'll begin writing definitions & theorems without any announcing he's in Chap 5 or 6 or 7. It's up to you to figure out where he's lecturing from. He's VERY theoretical in nature (good for COS or abstract Math ppl) horrible for Engineers, Physics, Math majors. MIT online lectures are WAY better.
Wow this guy is so nice and to the point. Witty and very helpful professor. You do have to study on your own time. He is not an easy A, but he makes sure that you know what to study. I have failed CALC III and DE and I took this professor to get a B. Trust me take him!
Excellent instructor. He spends a little time on proofs but he does so to justify concepts. He answers questions (completely) and is very clear and deliberate in his lecture. I WILL TAKE HIM AGAIN for any higher math. Classmates claimed he was equally effective instructing linear algebra. I withdrew after test 2. I failed, not the instructor.
Great Professor. Knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. Not easy, but thorough.
He is a nice guy, but sucks at a teacher. The only reason he hasnt been fired is because he has been working for more than 20 sumthing years. AVOID. I failed the class by 3 points.
This teacher absolutely sucks if your mediocre at Math. He does not know how to thoroughly explain to students who do not understand. AVOID this guy at all costs. he is not lenient in his grading whatsoever! I regret wasting my time and money on this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
If you're looking for easy A's on homework since you already understand, he's your man. He's very monotone and kind of slow, personally. I stopped attending because I fell asleep in his 7:45 class. DON'T sign up for his early class. If you have a good grasp on basic algebra, just skip the lecture and do the homework.
If you need to be continuously entertained and engage in collaborative learning - look elsewhere. If you want a straightforward and clear lecture on math complete with proofs, he's your guy. Prof. Lott is very fair, you'll work in his class, but you will learn.
Professor Lott is a nice older guy but he is not a good teacher at all. If you are not a good math student I do not recommend him at all. I love math but I really struggled in his class because things was not very clear. I would avoid this teacher if I could do it all over again.
ok Folks, listen and listen good. i just got done taking his class for SP2011 and I FAILED. keep in mind i've taken Math classes all the way to AP CALC and made all A's. I admit i barely went to class because i thought it would be a breeze and would still make an A.the tests are HARD. must memorize formulas. no curves.BORING class.
Hi is a nice guy, but his class is extraneously boring. He is very knowlable about math, there is no doubt, only he doesn't know how to transmit this knowledge; it is a shame. If you already struggle with math don't take it with him. You'll end up more confused than before.
Excellent professor. Tests are OK, do your homework and you will be fine.
Excellent professor.
Decent teacher. Had him for trig in the summer. Fast pace class so make sure you take notes. He does provide a formula sheet for tests. Tend to go a little fast at time, make sure you stop him and ask questions when you are lost.
If you are good with Cal and just need to pass the class to get the college credit, then he is a good teacher. If you need to learn Cal do not take him.
It is amazing how much calculus Mr. Lott knows. Also, he knows a lot of shortcuts that will help you solve the problems.Great professor.
pay attention on he says will be on the exam , when hes going over the review or during lecture, overall okay.
Nice teacher but horrible lectures. Tests are straight from homework and the book.
Great teacher. Knowledgeable and thorough.
HORRIBLE!! Nice teacher but very horrible lectures. 4 test including final. No calculator or formulas for first two exams. No extra credit. I had to learn from the homework which really DID NOT help me the test.
Great Teacher, but not easy.Full of helpful information. His experience at teaching shows.
Not helpful at all. No extra credit or leniency. No quizzes in between tests to check for understanding of material. Homework is the only other grade besides tests which are very difficult. Can not relate well with students, hard to understand what he is explaining. I do not recommend him unless you like to teach yourself.
Took him for Calc 2 in summer. Great guy and a good dry, sarcastic sense of humor but teaching abilities are average to below average. He does mostly proofs and theorems. I had to teach myself. If thats your thing or you're a math major interested in proofs then he is your guy. Fortunately his tests arent that hard. Got a B.
Awesome professor who does a great job of explaining mathematics. Takes time to work problems from homework in class, and is always open to help students during office hours. His tests are thorough, but not overly difficult. Used WebAssign. I would suggest him for any serious math student wanting to learn close to a university level.
Dry and slow lectures, no curves or extra credit, really hard tests and no quizzes in between for practice
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and fair. Not easy, but consistent
Great trig teacher. Knowledgeable, helpful, and fair.
Horrible, Horrible teacher!!! Cant teach what so ever..I do not recommend unless you wish to teach your self math.
Great teacher. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Strict but fair.
Great teacher. Best I have had at Richland.
Great teacher and very knowledgeable about calculus. Nice mix of theory and applications.
His class is by no means easy, but he is a great teacher, and if you study hard, you will haven no problems in this class. You actually learn a lot and he is willing to help out of class. His lectures are boring, but bearable. He is really sweet and a kindhearted guy if you treat him nice.
slow, boring, rude, and not helpful outside of class. very monotone lectures. hard to understand when he talks to the board most of the time.
Very good instructor.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and explains theories well.
I do more than 12 hours of homework a week for his class alone.
Very good professor. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Mr. Lott is very knowledgeable and really helps students to understand the material, and he test are really straight-forward.
The people who don't like Prof Lott just don't like to work. I never understood math until I came to his class. Clear, helpful, and fair. And he replaces your worst test grade with the final. Best math teacher I've ever had, hands down.
he's an awesome instructor. his exams are very hard, yet doable. just do your work and study hard -as you should always do- and you will be good to go.
Very knowledgeable, fair, and helpful.
His class was long, and I'd get very bored and tired. I learned most of the material on my own from the textbook. However, if I'd read the textbook and understood the material beforehand, I would've paid attention in class more. This is a straight-forward class. Coming to class isn't important; studying is. HE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU THOUGH.
If your not so good at math I wouldn't recommend taking his class. He's a good professor but only for the ones that can catch on quickly. He doesn't give a lot of examples, which confuses one a lot. On the first two exams NO CALCULATORS! He replaces the lowest exam grade with your final. And the exams aren't multiple choice.
Great Professor. Calculus II is extremely hard, but he knows it so well, it makes it easier to understand. Very helpful.
You better already be good in math if you want an A in this class. Professor Lott speaks with a southernold accent so I never understood what he was saying in class. He uses a smartboard and writes small, and you can't see what he writes. His lectures are just him teaching himself, no class participation. Would not reccommend.
Great class. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Would recommend
Homework is piled into a trap that hits me right in the procrastination gland. If I knew about it, I would have taken another professor if possible. Week one of the curriculum was the equivalent of being dropped into the deep end of a pool. If I had studied over winter break, perhaps I would be doing okay, but he just cant explain things well.
Great professor. Hard, but fair.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable. Pretty old school, but gives you what you need for next course.
I have a lot of trouble with math so I wasn't able to comprehend his teaching style. I ended up dropping.
Great class. Very straight forward and explains things in different ways.
I am not comment to take his class. Math 2420 is difficult course, but he only gives couple of examples all over his own schedule. Most study to get understand the lesson you should go on over the book and by your own. His exams are similar to the homework of Web sign, but his lecture only about 50% on of what you need to ready for the test.
Professor Lott is a very good teacher. He is not easy, but DE is not easy. He lays it out for you as to what to know for the exams.
Mr Lott is a very good teacher. Mostly lecture, but does try to get students involved and is very open to questions. Not a lot of fluff to his style, but prepares you for the next course.
Professor Lott is a dedicated instructor that truly cares about his students. He is a kind, honest, hardworking, and knowledgeable instructor that respects students; especially those who truly want to learn. He takes much time and patience to answer questions for students, no matter how difficult. I have much respect for Dr. Lott.
Prof. Lott was a very straight forward person. There is homework to do online and gives 4 tests and a final. Gives a curve if everyone did bad, twice in my class. Show work to get partial credit not multiple choice. A very slow teacher so less problem solving in class. Took attendance daily and gives bonus points if you studied at tutoring center.
Very good instructor. Very traditional in approach, but likes participation from class. Very knowledgeable in subject matter, Willing to answer questions from students and give help outside of class.
Nice man with poor time management skills. I am always late to my other classes, because he holds us longer than class required. Won't start from the beginning-- Expects us to know things right off the bat. Poor teaching skills. Taking his class is just like independent studies. " You must know what you are doing."
Great teacher. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Traditional teaching methods.
Professor Lott is a very friendly and sweet man, however I personally believe that he should just go be a grandfather rather than teach this class. He has good intentions, but when no one in the class understands what is going on, there obviously is something wrong with the teaching methods. You WILL find this class to extremely boring, WARNING!!!
Great teacher. Pretty traditional in his approach, but gives you what you need for the next course.
Starting day 1, he stands at smartboard and solves problems w/messy handwriting. He doesn't teach any ideas he just writes numbers and solves. Its almost as if he thinks youve taken the class before. 4 tests no calculators on the first 2. Will call on you in class, especially if you look like you don't know what's going on. He does answer questions
Knowledgeable, but doesn't try to talk over your head. Willing to answer questions. Gives you a copy of the solutions back when he returns an exam.
If you're not good in math, don't take him. This class was almost unbearable because he just makes you want to go to sleep. His tests progressively get harder through the semester and I definitely would not take him again
He is a good profdesor. He gives good lectures , feedack. Lectures are comprehended well . Very associative with class. Creat fun ro keep class more active.
Professor Lott is a really nice guy. He knows his subject but sometimes I found it hard to understand. He writes in cursive in lecture so it was hard to read. He does not allow calculators in the test and the reviews have no examples. He teaches old methods that just confuse you. This class defiantly requires a lot of work and time.
No calculator allowed in the test. Problems came out with not even number like sqrt(157)/325 instead of a nice number. Test is relatively heavy and requires effort. He will deduct your points anywhere he found a mistake from your test even you got right answer. Teaching something else instead of straight into problem you have on exam.
he goes to fast over lecture and doesn't explain why he did certain things to a problem. he doesn't show how he got certain number or anything. asking him questions during lecture was impossible. I felt very uncomfortable because he made me feel dumb. do not take hes class. regret is written all over it
Lott is a terrible professor. The same problems he'll assign on a hw or test, he struggles to solve in class. His lectures are mundane, consisting of him ranting for hrs and doing vague problems from the book. I have 110 credit hrs, have taken numerous professors but he is by far the worst. Also no calc on exams and he's a tough grader.
I took Calculus II in the spring and failed it. I enjoyed Mr. Lott's class this summer. Pretty straight forward. He reviews for tests and problems on tests match up with those on Webassign.
Great teacher. Knows material as well as any math I have had.
Mr. Lott is a good teacher. I like the way he teaches, so I am going to take Calculus II from him this summer.
I had trouble following nearly every lecture because he doesn't break the concepts down into a language most people would understand. I ended up teaching myself either from the book or youtube for many of the lessons which was extremely time consuming. His exams are fair though- nothing too tricky.
I took Mr. Lott for trig in the fall of 2017. It was my second time to take trig. I didnt appreciate him until I took precal this past semester. I would have been lost if I hadnt had him for trig. He is not easy but thorough. I hope to take him for calculus.
Mr. Lott is a great guy, but his lectures will not teach you anything! He writes in cursive and talks too quietly. I highly advise you STAY AWAY. Again, he has a fantastic personality and is a great man, but I would NEVER take his class again. I still have nightmares. You will learn nothing. I had to teach myself.
i took trigonometry with Mr Lot, was scared at first by negative feedbacks from some students but took him anyway. found out he is not as bad as people talk about him, he is a great teacher who knows his course. first 2 exams without calculator but easy to ace. homework are waaay harder than examinations so its easy to make good grades.
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
Good teacher. Very thorough. Treats students like adults.
Very good professor
