You have to buy a $90 book..His lectures and notes have NOTHING to do with the tests he gives. Our class average was always below an 75%. He is not very helpful at all. He study guides for his tests suck!! do not take him!!

He is a great teacher. He makes learing about geography interesting and he puts things in terms so that they actually will apply to real life situations. I recommend him to everyone.

VERY BORING.. absolutely terrible! Lectures really had nothing to do with the test. Had to do extra reading in order to understand and to pass the test. Did not stick to the subject or seem to care about students.
The people who complain about this teacher don't understand that he actually makes you think and that's a good thing.
Took him for CST and Geography, one of the best teachers I've had to date. One of the best informed people I've met. Class time was used to make you think and understand related material in real life, not just rehash of the book.
What a magnificant teacher! Still one of the best I've ever had! He is a really nice man that knows so much about a wide variety of topics. I would absolutely take him again for class.

One of the few professors who i enjoyed to hear lecture. Subtle humor incorportated for those who can catch a joke, or are paying attention. Got a B with minimal effort, atteneded class about 85%.

Hes a good prof, but his lectures have nothing to do with the test. The test questions just come out of nowhere, but the attendance and map quizzes really help your grade.
Very professional albeit a bit cold. Mr. Lowrey is doing his best to teach a boring subject. He is quite funny. At times he is a bit too opinionated. This class is not easy. Test questions are not from nowhere, they are out of the book and lecture.

He is the best. In three classes i took from him i missed about 5 questions total. Here is the tip to help you. IF HE REPEATS OR SPELLS SOMETHING, WRITE IT DOWN AND STUDY THAT. IF HE DOES NOT DO THAT IT IS NOT IMPORTANT.
I think Lowrey is great. I think his class is really interesting, and he gives you a lot of added information. He is a wonderful teacher, and I would recommend his class. You do have to put in a lot of study time though.
this man is a genius, if i could take his class over and over again i would.. not the easiest class you must study. If he ran for president no doubt about it id vote.
i attended every class and got little to nothing out of it. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!! Tests were not taken from lecture, and most questions came from nowhere. His stories are a little unbelievable to the point that you think he is lying.
Awful!! Very hard to follow, did not learn a thing. He is an expert on everything and has all the answers. NOT! Hard to follow class and book to study for test. Expects you to know everything. Like im I guess. Don't waste your time. What a joke!!!
He makes his lecturers exciting if your a lecture type person, but his tests don't seem to follow his lectures too much. Tests invole alot of (All of the above, None of the above, a&b but not c multiple choice answers)
Brilliant Geographer, great teacher. Will help you a lot ifyou go to his office and check your tests out. Great advice. Tests are directly from notes. Outline them and be sure you understand the concepts, no reason not to get A.
Now that I am finishing up here, Id like to admit to the best teacher Ive had at WSU. Take him, you wont regret it. Funniest guy. tests not too hard, map quizzes a little boring. I did that in junior high.
Lowrey's really understanding...the classes are REALLY boring, but there are review days before tests.
Great prof! Best I've had at WSU so far. Lowrey makes what could be an extremely borig subject into a very interesting class. Highly recommended!
By far the best prof I've had in college. He is extremely intelligent and even more funny. I had him for two classes and both beat out any other class I've taken, the subject is boring but he is great!
he is the best lecturer i have ever had...he is very clear and easy to follow in his lectures...he adds a little humor here and there to keep the students interested...however, his tests are brutal...very hard grader too...

He is a really funny guy and his lectures are interesting, but what he talks about has nothing to do with what is on the test. I have a hard time relating what he is saying to what we will be tested on.
Very opinionated- felt more like a polical science class than a geography class. Tests are okay if you read and go to lecture but still hard. Book is good, but isn't really taken advantage of by prof.
One on one he can be helpful or rude depending on his mood. It is hard to take what he talks about in class and transfer it to the test. The study guides for tests help you pick important information from your notes. You must read the book because he won't talk about it and it will be on the test.
Well, he makes alot of jokes, some things on the tests arent what we talk about and....its so boring. I think he likes to be rude and prides himself on it. My opinion.
Very good prof. Makes you think about things that you never cared about. But test are hard and he doesn't cover majorirty of test info in his lectures so you have to read. But you will definately learn a lot from him.You'll see the world in a different way.
He's a really good teacher and he makes the class interesting. Plus he knows his stuff! The only problem is that his test are very difficult. He makes them more confusing than they need to be. Over all hes really good. I would deffinately recomend him if you're willing ot study!
Tests are based on the book, lectures are not from the book at all. Always talking about a situation in whatever country where a friend needed his advice. For the papers, he had very set concusions he wanted you to draw and if you don't get the exact conclusions he's after, you rewrite it... again.
One of my favorite professors! Lectures are actually interesting, and you really learn alot -- some important things, some trivial things. Would definitely recommend taking this class! Tests can be tricky, but if you study what he tells you to, it's easy to get an 'A'.

Hard tests, he takes pride in them being hard. He is very anti-liberal calls liberals communistic. Class time wasn't used well, he'd talk about something interesting for over an hour and in last 15 min of class say "Now to todays topic" Tests are hit or miss (usually miss) Smart guy though
I got an A, but no idea how! Map quizzes are cake, just study. Just bend over and hope it doesn't hurt too bad on the midterms. Lowrey is really cool as a person, but be ready to work in class.
Just for a frame of reference I got a "B". If you want a severely conservative, scatterbrained teacher who makes up stories and passes them off as facts, this guy is for you! Don't expect the lectures to have anything to do with test material.
Very good teacher. Right away outlines what is expected of you in the course. All you have to do is take the tests and quizzes. Very fair. Very easy if you study for a hour or two. Liberals in class whined about him "making up" facts...after looking up on my own, he was 100% right. Very smart man.
Very unclear, hard tests, boring lectures, made fun of me for asking a question. Always came into class wondering what he was going to do to irritate me or someone else. He makes it passable but not very bearable.

Don't take this class if you can avoid it. Way too much personal opinions and misrepresented facts. About what you'd expect from an old white guy teaching about Asia and Africa, aside from what it's like to be a white tourist he doesn't teach anything. Fairly easy if yout willing to bit your check and repeat his opinion as fact.
This class can be very interesting but also boring at the same time. He has hard test and wants everyone to think he has done everything and been everywhere. This class involves a lot of studying. The WI portion is a little rediculous.

Class isn't as hard as much as his way of explaining things. He makes the class seem very easy to pass and is fun to listen to, but when the test comes is completely different than what he taught. I took every note and came to every class and never got more than a C on tests. He's very opinionated and kind of senile. Not a bad teacher just weird.
this class is absolutely pointless, the fresh are just suckered in to listen to this guy speak nothing important and/or necessary to know in life. he thinks his class holds value in a college education, but it doesn't. and i think he knows that since it is a required subject for most majors. he came off as extremely babying adults in the class, as he wanted to tell his philosophy and real world views just so that we would pay attention, do yourself a favor, pick cst 241, at least that makes sense.
You need to read the book, if you dont you will struggle.. You will get atleast a C if you study the map quizzes and do well on the paper. He ties in his personal views, but all the liberals in class did was whine about it.
make sure you read the book, his tests were basically over that stuff and not over anything from notes except the toolbox stuff. in class all he did was talk about himself and how great he is. i suggest taking a different class or pick another teacher.

What should be a fun class becomes Hell with this man. He said all quizzes would be announced but did not announce the first quiz for an experiment and then gave everyone 100%. I was sick and missed it but couldn't take it w/o a doctor note. He talks only about himself during class and how wise and great he is.
Anyone who says this man is fair to both sides of the political swing is so far right that they don't listen either. Tests are hard- even when you read and go to class. He called all Liberals communists in class... at least the liberal professors respect the conservative students! And we're blackmailed into taking him! He's horrible!
He challenges the class, especially on the papers. His lectures are AWESOME! So entertaining and funny. He was so intresting. I will try to take his classes in the future. He is also fair to both sides, and not overyl liberal like a lot of teachers are.
Dr. Lowrey is great. Pretty right on the political spectrum but class is fun and enjoyable. Go to class listen and you will do fine. Remember his word is supreme. Test hint, what he says will be on the test. Great class, tests are not too bad, just think and take your time. I will take him again, he is willing to help if you help yourself!!

I would take another class with him if I could. He's an older professor, so old-school is his style. Strict, doesn't like whiners, no babying whatsoever. He pretty much makes everyone responsible for themselves. Map quizzes are easy points. Read the insight into culture boxes in the text if nothing else, he asks about their content on tests.
didnt much care for the way he presented his politics. i consider myself a conservative too but i dont hate liberals. i know many profs here are biased, but i dont see anything wrong with that as long as theyre respectful of opposing viewpoints. kenneth lowrey certainly is not; he is one bitter old man. anyway class isnt too hard if you work for it

This guy is horrible! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He may seem to know a lot of information, but if you don't share the same views he does, he tries to make you feel like an idiot. Easy points for showing up and doing the map quizzes.. but you'd have a hard time staying in your seat and not walking out.
Good Teacher; Does not babysit you, You know what is expected, get it done, get an A or B if your not a good test taker. Good Simple class.
Very very smart man who incorporates his great knowledge of geography into people’s everyday lives and gives a good understanding of other countries. If you want a good knowledge of the world this class is a must take. The lectures will not loose your interest
A good class to take. Keeps class interesting so its easier to understand the information. Map quizzes are easy and the lecture wil help you on tests. Not a boring guy, great stories, somewhat hard tests but not bad. Liberals get pissed because he gives them a hard time, but hes right and knows his stuff, just look it up and if don't believe it
Absolutely the worst instructor (he's not a prof, people) I have ever had. Can you say egocentric, hard right-wing (really, he manages to make right-wingers look moderate by comparison) narcissistic misogynist? His views and politics are repugnant. And I'm not a bitter flunkee--I got an A in his class.
Engaging class lectures, but he outright states that his tests are constructed to mislead students.
Class itself not too hard. Interesting materials. Speaks in a very demeaning tone. Gets on his high horse like hes better than everybody else. Rambles sometimes about absolutely nothing. I got a nap everyday. I didnt read anything at all and walked out of there with a B. can guess on most test items. Does not clearly outline expectations on papers.
Prof Lowrey has a strange way of bringing out the critical thinker inside all of us. This is not an easy class to take but you will learn something about yourself in the process. The papers are a little hard to understand but if you ask questions he will help.
He makes up the hardest test that I have ever seen, they are over the hundreds of pages that you have to read. although lectures are quit interesting! He makes you write papers over until it's to his liking, and each time you turn it in it drops a letter grade, which goes from A to B to D! or it's not accepted at all. Extremely not recomended
Very easy. Very interesting. An easy B, and an A is definitely not out of reach with a little effort.
Very strict very hard class. Knows what he is teaching. Teaches very well and enjoy the class.
Although attendance isn't mandatory, you cannot miss and do well. Map quizzes are easy, but they aren't on the syllabus-- he only tells you about them the class before. Tests are long and made to be deceptive. He's an okay teacher, but I don't like how he doesn't follow the syllabus. I wish I would have taken this course with another instructor.
Professor does not care whether you have a valid documentation for make up quizzes. he told me the make up location was on the syllabus and it was not. do not take if you plan on EVER missing anything
Lowrey is a great prof. I learned a lot in this class. At first he might come across a little harsh but he lightens up and can be very funny. This was one of a few classes where the hour flew by. The papers can be a pain, but he really knows his stuff and would love to hear from you later on in you career.

I found the class informative but I would never take him for another class. Why waste students time with lectures that have nothing to do with the tests? Ask VERY specific questions about the writing assignments and follow his answers explicitly / study for map quizzes and it is impossible to do worse than a B.
This guy rocks! He is so pro-America. It is refreshing to have conservative prof who understands why there is war in the mideast. Oh, and the glass is the wrong size. "Subject verb, subject verb, like a train"
Lowrey is extremely conservative in his political views, and a Urban Geogaphy class utilizing GIS software was not the place for him to express them. He was somewhat unfamiliar with the software we used in the class, and that could be frustrating if you needed help. You had to come to class to do well, because he cherry picked info from the text.
I loved this class! He is very smart and has a witty humor. He made the class very interesting and its also nice to finally not have a flamming liberal teacher.
He's informative and hard. You learn a lot but you have to work for your grade. Papers were easy. The lectures and test lined up. You def. need to study everyting for the test! If you go to his office he teaches you how to study. If you miss class your grade will show for it. I would take him again if I could.
You will learn a lot but you should listen to every lecture. He also has test questions over the reading, though I never read anything for the class and got a B. He is very specific about the papers but go to his office and he will very clearly explain how to do it. Must resubmit papers if he does not like them. Tests are pretty difficult.
He is definitely conservative. Sometimes I felt like he was trying to get my vote as president rather than lecture. Gets more interesting at the end of the quarter. Tests were pretty hard. Didn't really use the book..map quizzes really boost your grade. Go to class, for ever 2 attendance quizzes missed you drop one final letter grade automatically.
loved this class...scepticle at first..but he made it very intersting he also tells good info about todays society...highly recomended
I didn't really enjoy the subject when i took it, so maybe thats why i hated it. the tests seemed impossible, and the papers were hard to write. The book reminds me of a high school literature book with thousands of tiny words per page, that mean nothing in the end. i regreat taking this class. go to class also! or you will DEF. FAIL!
Second time I've had him, and he is still awful. His lectures are unorganized; it often appears he doesn't prepare the lecture before class. Tells us that American students are dumb, that the media lies to us, and that how we got into the war in Iraq doesn't matter on a daily basis. This is not the place to express those opinions.
I did not like his teaching style. He does not put assignments on the syllabus (you HAVE to come to class to get assignments). He is intimidating - it seems as though he dares students to disagree with him so he can make them look foolish. His tests are ridiculously difficult for a gen ed class.
Must go to class to get assignments, no organization, tests are confusing and poorly written. He will make you feel stupid for asking questions. Extremely arrogant and opinionated.Doesn't appear to have any interest in helping students.
He is a very smart, opinionated professor. You have to attend class and his tests require serious studying. I was skeptical of his class the first couple days, but I gained a lot of knowledge that I'm using now. If you like random facts take this class.

Mr. Lowrey is a great professor with a great attitude towards the topic he is teaching. The first day was a bit intimidating, but once you get used to his style you will do well as long as you put the effort forth. Papers are a little difficult, but if you follow his guidelines you will do well. This class wlll change your life!
Must be a motivated student, if so you will pass easily. If you just want to get an easy grade then don't take him. He is extremely helpful in office hours. Reading the text is a must and devoting time to studying. Attendance is not mandatory but sometimes he uses it for bonus points.
This guy really gets it. He understands why there is unrest in the Middle East. He brought it back to Abraham. The facts don't lie. Muslims and Arabs hate Jews because God said they were his favorite. Like it or lump it. Every knee will bow one day anyway. Best be on His side.
Really smart guy. Has a whole lot of experience in his field. Teaches you things you can actually use, and pretty funny. If your gonna say anything though, make sure you can back it up because he will call you out.
i started out thinking i would hate this class. turns out he makes the material easy to understand. this became my favorite class of the quarter!
Lectures are very interesting, he has a lot of stories to tell that can help you remember the material. As long as you take notes & read the chapters, you will do good on the tests. Go to class, if attendance is low, he will do a quiz and that's 10% of your grade.
Dr. Lowrey was a great teacher and knows what he's talking about. Although his test are not easy the class is interesting and informative. He made me think outside the box for the first time in my college career. Take him!!!
My favorite teacher in the world. I took him 3 times and about to take him my for the 4th. His notes are sorta hard to follow but it doesn't matter cuz most of his exams are straight up book material...just go to class, ace your map quizzes, skim the chapters in the book and ur in the clear!
Guy is a major tool. Rambled for almost a lecture period about nonsense and government crap. Watch what question you ask him as he may out wit you to make you look bad. Test are hard, some map quizzes are hard too, god forbid you leave to go to bathroom, cause he will not let you back in.
Great professor. Hard class. He has great views but if you do something even slightly wrong, you won't pass the WI. The tests were hard and there weren't any "notes," you just wrote down what you thought was important.
Remarkably intelligent and easy to understand. His views aren't necessarily far flung, many of the comments accuse him of being far right, yet I didn't see it. I'm radical far left and I quite enjoyed listening to his opinions. He is humanistic and altruistic, and offers wise insight for issues regarding the Middle East etc. Highly recommended prof
