The guy is on a power trip, he won't help student w/o making them feel horrible.
****! He has decided that one can not start a sentence with And, But, or Because even though it is completely, grammatically correct to do so. No people skills, and he surely used to get beaten up a lot as a kid.
Extremely hard class. He thinks since he knows it so well it should come just as easy to all of the students. Extremely picky grader as well.
Take someone else. You may learn a lot from his class, but it is not relevant unless you are a DSCI major.
Due to a shortgage of small countries looking for cruel, arrogant, and egomaniacal dictators, he was forced into teaching.
Smart people drop his class after the first two weeks. He was the most pompous, egotistical jerk of a teacher I've had during my 7 semesters at this school. He's awful. Any answer right or wrong someone calls out in class he gives a creepy laugh. Ugh.
Although this course was very hard, I believe that I learned more from this man than any other when it comes to business writing and analysis. Read ahead (way ahead), study hard, and ASK QUESTIONS! I got an A.
If you can get through this class you will be a better student and person for it.
dude sucks. if you really really really want to learn some extra stuff take him. but he is really hard and will make you do more than any other teacher.
you can learn from him, but you better have thick skin. kinda fun to argue with, but pick your arguments carefully, he can be beaten but its not easy
HE SUCKS BAD!!! I had him like three years ago-and I don't think that he is teaching anymore-though he may be...such a jerk. I you want to be treated like a child take his class-he will yell at you!!
Very tough and demanding professor, but a very good professor. Challenges his students to be successful. Honestly, what he teaches does not seem like it will be used very often, but it is management. You will not have a life during the semester you take his class, but overall, a great teacher!
Drop his class before it is too late, if you do you will get better grades in all of your other classes. Hard, unclear, teaches too much filler, wants to be a jerk so is jerk. Learn squat in his class, has no relevance to real life. Those that can't do, teach.
great professor it is hard but if u really want to get your rust off your brains, he is the right guy. besides this class may be very helpful in career if you want to pursue smth in mgmt, fin analysis, logistics
I heard horror stories about this class but after taking it I can say it really isn't that bad and he is not the devil in human form. If you do what he tells you to do and work hard you will do fine. Going into the class I was hoping for a B and ended up with an A.
This guy is the worst possible kind of teacher. He couldn't hack it in the real world so went to the only place that would hire him. His class is a joke and he only gives good grades to those who kiss his ass and tell him what he wants to hear.
Despite his reputation, he is a great professor. The class is very demanding but he is very liberal with his grading. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER!
This class is not meant to be easy, so don't expect it to be. He knows his stuff and will expect you to do the same. He will treat you like a real-world boss would. Do your work and ask for help and you shouldn't have a problem. Be sure to get past student's projects!

I always thought using somebody else's old projects were considered cheating. I think the reason why students dislike this class is because you actually have to use your brain. It is challenging and can be frustrating, but I have learned more from this course than any other MBA course. If you don't understand, just ask questions!
Test are extremely confusing. Way too much busy work. Course is intense. Extremely stressful.
You will definitely work hard to earn a decent grade in this class. Dr. MacLeod expects you to use your brain and not merely regurgitate what he teaches. Read the notes, listen to the lectures and try to think like a manager and you should get a good grade.
Wow. He is seriously hard, but you learn a lot from him. Took the class in the summer and thought I would die. He's mean and very intimidating, but if you stand your ground he'll pass you.
Welcome to the real world kiddies! Dr. MacLeod's is tough but he does his students a HUGE favor by giving them a taste of what preparation for presentations and sharing substantiated thoughts in the business world is like. A's are definitely possible if you pay attention, do the work and study!
He's hard, but he doesn't sugar coat things- it's the real world! The material and course are very demanding, but he truly WANTS you to succeed! Do the work, read his lecture notes, & ask TONS of questions, & you'll be fine! The class is no joke, but is an AWESOME professor!
RUDE, does not lecture online or in class, makes the class harder than it should be, midterm was ridiculous, RUDE RUDE RUDE. He is a horrible professor.
Real world does not equate to rudeness, and yes he is rude. There is no excuse for the way he treats students. His mommy never taught him manners.
Horrible teacher. "Classtime" is strictly your chance to ask him questions for which he gives rude answers implying that nobody bothers to do any of the work. He forgot we even had class one time. Other times he showed up late. He makes the subject MUCH harder than it needs to be. Don't take his class!
This class was brutal. You have a 15 page paper due within the first two weeks of class that everyone fails. The midterm is impossible and the presentation is the most stressful thing you will encounter in the MBA program. It prepares you for the real world but it destroys you at the same time. Tough teacher with tough comments.
He is tough, but he is fair. It is real world kiddies and get ready. Yes, he will grill you on your presentation, but he is fair with the grade. The midterm and final are brutal, but I learned alot in this class. If you decide to take it in the summer, be prepared to do nothing but this class. Studying is about 4 hours a night at least.
I have done 18 classes and this is the first time I've felt compelled to rate a professor. MacLeod is the best and best class I've taken. You want a class to model reality and how to THINK - take it. You'll get the tools needed as you proceed, if you want them. Complainers aren't in tune! Dr. M is!
There is good and bad with regards to Dr. MacLeod. The class is good, the material interesting and in grading he is extremely fair. The big paper (and it is a doozie) is pre-graded and returned for correction. You better be seated when you get the first read back. However, as long as you read and follow his suggestions your grade will improve sign
He's definitely a rude one. The biggest problem with the class is not knowing exactly what he wants and therefore receiving a terrible grade. Don't wait to take this your last semester before graduating because it appears half his class drops and has to retake it!
He demonstrates a complete lack of respect towards students. He is condescending and stubborn. He has no people skills. No matter how "good" he might be at teaching, his attitude and behavior make him a nightmare.
I found him rude, arrogant, with no respect to students. His handouts are w/o logic, and do not make mathematical sense. In one word, the class could be a lot better with a better professor. Ppl that know him and do not have work experience think that he is very smart. But if you worked in the industry for a while, you know that his style is fake!
He's very knowledgable. Unfortunatly, he's a complete jerk. His goal is to prepare you for the "real world" where bosses will question you, but his behavior crosses over into unprofessional with personal attacks. Maybe some bosses act like this but it's not a guide of what an effective boss (read: professor) will do. Most do get an A or B though.
He hates life. And you. He gives enormous amounts of work, will offer "tips" which end up only being lies. He told me he liked a piece of my project & encouraged me about it two nights before it was due when I asked for help, then upon grading, said it was the worst part of the project & should have been left out! WTF??! Thanks for the "help"...
He is very arrogant (god complex), but very knowledgeable. Harsh during presentations, but is just driving home the point that when presenting to a critical boss or potential partner, you need to really know your stuff. He's not trying to personally attack you. Grades really hard, but even if you think you are dead you can still get a good grade.
Okay so he is the most hated man in the MBA program. You will curse and hate your life all semester. You will feel like a inch tall during the presentation. The exams are ridiculously hard. Suck it up, play his game, and you will pass. Got a B. In the end, I saw him at graduation and he is a really nice guy.
I made an A, but: Exam questions were silly, poorly constructed and exclusively about non-business topics. Critiques of presentations were brutal and bore no resemblance to anything experienced in the working world. He was big on trying to teach students how to write, but gave terrible advice in this area. He was quite a poor writer himself.
He is brutal. I took it during the 5 week summer session. It's very stressful but if you can, DO IT THAT WAY. GET IT OVER WITH ASAP. One girl in my class cried during her presentation when she started to stumble so be prepared! His jokes are terrible and he is awkward. Attend his Centra sessions if you want to succeed!!
The worst five weeks of my life. I have never had such anxiety in a class. It is not that its that hard, its that he is SO ARROGANT. He tells you to email him with questions, then pretty much tells you your dumb for asking. I would take it in the summer just to get it over with, however be prepared to do work EVERY day or you will fall behind.
This class was a nightmare. There were 2 tests, one 15-page paper, three 1-page group summaries, and 1 group presenation. It doesn't sound like much, but there is no way to BS your way through this course. Be prepared to read a LOT and to spend a LOT of time working with the material. Most time consuming class I have ever had!(I took during summer)
Concepts are simple enough but the delivery is difficult (no text book, just online lecture notes). Professor is rude and, although he asks you to ask questions in "lecture", most students are afraid to seek help for fear that he will be cruel. Claims to give a real-world perspective, but I wouldn't work where someone treated me like that!
I gave him the benefit of the doubt that his class received a bad reputation for the wrong reasons. I was wrong to do so, its deserved. The entire basis of his class is that he will prepare his students for the real world. The last time he was in the real world was 10 years before I was born. ultimately he means well and believes in his method.
I work full time as a professional and the professor has worked in the real world. I found him to be not only knowledgeable about business "science" but practical. Many professors bring theory to the table but this professor walks the talk. If you realize many of your bosses will be tough, then you will appreciated MacLeod.
Emphasis on analysis and effectively presenting info to your superiors. Be prepared to know your topic very well and be challenged. During the group presentations he goes into obnoxious boss mode, but is actually pretty nice and fair once it's over.
The lecture notes are terrible. He has no real world experience. Example- you do not write business papers in the first person! I understand that he wants to challenge people's decision making techniques but you can teach without intimidating the students.
Very tough and critical with more than a touch of sarcasm, but he is a great teacher. He calls it like he sees it and for the most part as much as you hate it he is right on! Learned a great deal from him.
Yes this class is as advertised. The longest semester of my life. However, I do feel like taking this class is a rare opportunity. I hear he rarely fails people, and most make B's. But this class is very very labor intensive. 5 cases, a presentation, 2 exams, and a write-up. And you have to know every number. Just don't give up!
Dr. MacLeod is great. The class is not easy. But he helps you with anything you need! Don't be scared to ask questions, he will answer. Work hard!
First thing: Rumors are true, this is the hardest course in the MBA program. Dr. Macleod expects you to use knowledge you have learned in the program. He is tough, he can be overbearing, but is verst intelligent and will help you if you ask! Never been as stressed as I was here, but I learned more than any other. A practice for real life.
Online Fall '14. Professor root cause for bad class. Only has 80's business examples. Appears 'helpful' bc he responds quickly to q's, but have to ask q's bc he's disorganized & contradicts his instructions so students are in the dark. Q&A lecture notes terrible. Not professional. Neurotic. Can't apply what I 'learned'. Take diff't professor.
Terrible professor. No respect for students. Doesn't teach. You need to ask the questions to have him teach the concept. Very subjective grading process. No consistency in grading. He gives you wrong advice to "test" you. Group process is horrible. There is too much work and no way to split it up.. Everyone ends up doing all the work.

Abstract lecture notes, but adds some dry humor long the way. Very aggressive in his tough love teaching style, but in the end, it makes you either work harder or quit. How bad do you want to work to earn our A? Be prepared by knowing the material in and out, or be prepared to test the thickness of your skin when the professor gives feedback.
You're in the MBA program for a reason. Dr. MacLeod is tough and this course is tough. I took it in a summer session. But he's honest and will teach you. That's what we are here for! Definitely the hardest course of the program, but I learned so much and enjoyed the course!
A tough class. Dr. MacLeod can be very helpful if you ask a lot questions, but he will remind you he has given you the same info in such such. Time consuming. Be prepared, not scared. I survived.
Show you learned more coming out than you did coming in, and you'll do well. You have to participate in the group projects to know what is going on in the exams. You must be able to take harsh feedback and show you can make changes. Prepare, prepare, prepare for your presentation. He will make a fool of you if you don't have all bases covered.
Expect to spend easily 20 hours per week on this class. Jump right in with your group as soon as the case is assigned, it will save headaches. Be in touch with him often with questions & be prepared for some back and forth. He's tough but you learn so much even if you are struggling. If you can, take this class only or find an easy elective.
AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS. You have to do 2 assignments per week in teams to get a password to take quizzes on those assignments. However, the assignments must be 100% right or you will be emailing back and forth with him for hours until it is. He also does not help you at all most of the time replying with just that its still not right
He doesn't lecture at all, you have to watch videos and read several pages of notes in your own time to learn. My friends, who had other professors, had no clue what I was learning in that class. It can be a lot easier with any other professor.
You need to have thick skin or you won't make it with him as your professor. Extremely sarcastic but does know what he is talking about. Every class there is a daily quiz which counts 30% of your grade. Tests are difficult but he gives you the answers if you ask for help on questions.
He doesn't think through his assignments, yet hyper analyzes everything. For example, he gave out an assignment on a Word doc with an empty chart. Naturally you fill it in, send it to him. But you get back 2 paragraphs about how you should've known better and used an Excel sheet instead. He doesn't tell you what he wants, but expects you to know.
Avoid taking this class with Mr. MacLeod. He is super sarcastic when you ask him a question, and he ends up making you feel stupid because he expects you to know every answer. He doesn't lecture AT ALL, and wants students to read the lectures before class. The tests are open note, which is the ONLY good thing about this class.
In all my years of school, this is the worst professor. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else, and enjoys making the students squirm instead of actually teaching the material. I'd avoid this professor at all cost.
This course requires you to work backwards. Basically we had to do all of the work for class the night before, come into class and if you had it completed you could leave immediately. If you didn't complete it, you would stay and work for the class period. Professor MacLeod means well but he can be a bit sarcastic at times. Definitely learned a lot
Worst egotistical professor I have had the horror of teaching a class. I cannot express enough how much to avoid his class in decision making. His emails are rude and unprofessional. If you point this out to him, he will say you don't know what you are talking about. My group was all current career workers. Extremely hard class and class work.
All I can say is whatever you do don't take any class with this professor. For sure without a doubt the worst professor i have had in my 4 years at ECU

Do not take him. I took him online, the first week of class he sends out an email to everyone in the class and says here pick your groups. Very difficult to do with 130 students. You have to complete the weekly assignments and have them 100% correct or you dont get the code for the quiz. tests are very hard and any email from him is very rude.
Super tough grader and lots of work for the semester. BEWARE, he is not super nice either. Any feedback he would give was rudely written.
Does not have sympathy for students at all. His emails are always snarky. When you ask him a question, he does everything but give you the answer. It feels like he wants his students to fail and he does a great job of making that possible by giving a total of 12 grades for the class and grading carelessly. Check behind his grading.
Hardest professor I've ever had at ECU. Expects a lot, get ready to work. However, Ken has incredible intentions and he wants to see students succeed. VERY VERY VERY tough course but it's worth it when you take advanced classes/ get admitted into an MBA program. 10/10 would take again.
If you hate yourself and want a reason to hate yourself even more then take this class. Get ready to do work outside of class to prepare for the next class and get yelled at like a kid when you do something wrong. The assignments are confusing and wordy for no reason. Must do the assignment right in order to get the quiz code. Everything is hard.

This professor is AWFUL, the worst I have EVER had! It's clear he is miserable! He gets extremely frustrated when you don't understand the assignment and don't get it right and is VERY rude and snarky with his responses! 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND! Brace yourself for tons of group work so be sure you can depend on your group to do their part.
Horrendous. Do not take unless you feel that you are the smartest person in the world w/ infinite time to dedicate. He is so incredibly cryptic from his lecture notes to his assignment feedback. Correct work is not what matters, it is completing senseless open ended questions EXACTLY in the way he wants you to. Treats you like you are incompetent.
I was Dr. MacLeod's teaching assistant from Fall 1999 to spring 2020. He was extremely rude to me. If this is how he treats his graduate assistant who works for him, I could imagine how he treats his students. Cannot erase that memory 24 years later.
Do you like it when professors make you cry? Do you like being talked down to like you are less than human? Do you want your 4.0 GPA ruined? This might be the class for you. Otherwise, please don't repeat my mistakes and get on the waitlist for another professor.
Good professor. He's a tough one but he's super funny and blunt. I personally love someone who doesn't sugarcoat and he definitely does not. I enjoyed his teaching style. Class is definitely challenging but extremely useful. I'd suggest taking him.
It doesn't really matter what I say since he's retiring, but I just wanted to make it publicly known that this is the rudest, most sarcastic, and downright disrespectful professor I've ever encountered.
