Millen-Penn is hilarious. He definately referred to Fairmont as "Ghetto-ville with slum lords", a statement which I feel is very acurate. He makes history interesting and easy to understand!

He is an awesome teacher! Personally, I don't care for history but his classes are interesting. He isn't a boring teacher that has you constantly looking at your watch. I would definately recommend him to anyone, but be ready to take lots of notes!

This is a man who realizes that others have opinions and that not everyone is going to agree with his. Better yet, he doesn't take that out on your grade. I don't like American History (European history is my thing) but he made this class bearable.

Never really paid attention to his ass, but I love his sense of humor. Definitely worth taking, whether History is your forte or not.

He is a great teacher and uses his passion for the subject to inspire others to learn it. Take good notes and pay attention in his classes and you will do fine on all the tests. Very intelligent man and is willing to share it with anyone who is willing to learn...VERY HELPFUL

I hate history, but this man is nothing but a genius. He is hilarious and his class is a lot of fun; however, you have to constantly take notes. I advice ANYONE to take him instead of any of the other history teachers; he rocks!

I'm not doing well in his class, but it certainly isn't his fault! Take notes as well as you can, and read in the book if you aren't clear on your notes. If you don't think history is interesting, take him. Just make sure you have plenty of time to get to know the material before test day.

Very laid back in lectures. Has the knowledge and scholarship to teach quality history, however this is often overshadowed during his lectures with references to drinking and partying.

If you want a relatively simple history course, take M-Penn. He doesn't know why he's in this profession, but he is still an able and likeable prof. Women, beware of him in the bar, he will buy you drinks and get you into dark corners. His classes are interesting, take notes, the tests are always multiple choice.

Extremely effective and fun lecturer who keeps the class interesting. Study every term on the "term sheet" and take good notes. Attend every class and you'll do great. There are no curve ball or uncovered questions on the tests. One of the best professors out there.

I have taken many history courses at FSU and I regret having not taken him before. He's awesome. I have never learned so much in my life. He makes it easy to understand and easy to remember. He tells it to you like it's a story and makes it very interesting. Don't bother buying the book! I didn't even open it and I got 100+%!!!

Millen-Penn is a funny guy, and a passable prof, but he has the personality (and tact) of a 12 year old. If you disagree with him, he tends to ridicule you in front of the class. He often has days which can be summed up by: "I'm takin my toys and goin' home!" Just keep your head down, and memorize key-terms; its not brain surgery.

i had him for a lot of classes and he's AWESOME. anyone that has to only take one or two classes should pick him over anyone in the history department now. he breathes life into lectures and seriously made my day every single time i walked into his class. honestly i have no idea how people could not like him. hes an inspiration to future teachers.

Ive never had so much fun in a history class before. He makes most of the topics interesting and makes going to class worth your time. You can miss some classes but make sure you dont miss the days that you have group projects, they will save your grade. He gives out study guides, if you use these you will do decent on your test. Take this class!

To the last person that posted...i don't think he's a slime ball at all and i think your making that up. He is a fantastic professor who makes history really enjoyable and he is able to grab your attention and make history fun and relavent. NOT A SLIM BALL

Millen-Penn's class is the first history class I have ever enjoyed. I actually remember the things he says in class. The horrible things that some of you are saying are ridiculous maybe you should spend more time on classwork and less trashing professors and you would have done better in class and wouldn't need to make up lies. Overall a really good professor. It's really easy to follow is lectures, because he is really knowledgeable. Listening is key in his classes, as is paying attention.

He's awesome. I had mistakenly dropped his class while scheduling my classes. I added the class. And now I'm very happy I did so. It was realy great experience attending his class. I hope everyone enjoys the class as much as I did, even more than that!!!

Anyone who has ill things to say about Dr. Millen-Penn must have him confused with someone else. He is an absolutely hilarious, brilliant man that enjoys drinking and can recount American history like he's recounting his weekend to you. Take him if you get the chance!

I had a three hour Monday class with him and it was some what difficult. As long as you study your notes you should be fine, make sure you pay attention and take great notes! He is an excellent professor

Millen-Penn is awesome. I had him for class ten years ago and then again last year. Still the best professor I have had. Wish I could take all my history classes with him. Take good notes and study them and you'll do great. I could live without the group projects though.

Fairly easy class if you go to class EVERY day and take good notes, as the tests come directly from your notes. MP is a very funny guy who loves talking about drinking and teaching history, which all comes from his head like a good story. If he is teaching a class, take him if at all possible, you won't regret it.

You won't find a greater history teacher. Dr. M-P loves what he does, maintains an excellent sense of humor, and a realistic approach to teaching his students. He lectures for solid, entire sessions without referring to notes!

He really knows everything about history. It's amazing. He doesn't need any notes, he just talks. He's super cool and loves on campus, also he has a tendency to cancel class or let you out early. He's amazing. Easily one of my favorite teachers.

Millen-Penn is a great professor. He jokes with the class and isn't uptight at all. His tests are 95% from his in class lectures. If you want to get a good grade, go to class. He's interesting and won't leave you bored. Funny and loves his Sam Adams. Best history prof at FSU.

Dr. Millen-Penn is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure to take. I took at least five of his classes as I was a history major. Enjoy his lectures. Take notes. Study them for tests. You will actually learn in his class. He was always available during office hours or email. A wonderful professor.

It is a heavy lecture class. If you don't show up you will not pass. He only uses the book for group projects. All his test comes form the lectures. Wonderful class! If you show up and study, you will pass.

I'm not at all a history buff - it most usually bores me - but this was not at all the case with this class. Millen-Penn makes his 2hr lectures feel as though it was fifteen minutes with his story-telling and humor. As long as you show up and study the basics, you should have no problem passing with flying colors. Definitely recommend!

Dr. Millen-Penn is one of the best history professors at FSU. He is an amazing lecturer and makes class go by fast. He is very funny and easy to get along with. Any chance I get to take his classes I do. Make sure you bring a notebook and don't play on your phone in class.

What a pleasant surprise this class turned out to be! I have always been bored by history, but Millen-Penn's story-like lectures are captivating, easy to understand and remember, and bring to life the content of the class. Show up, take notes, and study at least a little and you'll have no problem passing. He is fantastic!

I love Doc. He lives in Prichard and is hilarious. I love making him feel guilty for being the only person to give me a B out of 8 professors that semester lol he says hes retiring in 2019 he has a cat named Raja who is amazing

Dr. Millen-Penn is easily my favorite professor. He rarely ever uses notes, it's all from his head. I had him for class my first semester for 3 hours and never missed a class. He's hilarious and you learn so much in the process. I tell everyone I know to take him, and they've never regretted it. Make sure you keep track of the term sheet and study.

I don't know how this man knows so much, he teaches without notes or anything. Yet, you feel like he's telling you a story and it's super entertaining to hear. I came to class with migraines just to hear him teach, and because attendance helps you get an A. He doesn't take roll, but attending is the best way to pass, not that you'd want to skip.

I have only had him for this semester so far and he is amazing!!! I cannot stress this enough. He is the best teacher I have ever had. I am a nursing major but I plan on taking more of his classes just to have him again. He makes history so much fun something I didnt think was possible
