This guy sucks. He doesn't know the subject that he is teaching even though it's Windows 101! He's always surprised that "it worked earlier when he tried it on his computer"... I do not recommend this professor to anybody
Easily one of the worst teacher's I have ever had. The first day of class he didn't even know if he had assigned homework or not. Honestly, if I didn't know the first thing about Web Design I would have been lost all semester. Horrid.
by far the worse professor at O.C.C. Does not know the material that he teaches.
Worst teacher I have ever had. He is arrogant if you question him and boring as hell. Seriously avoid him like the plague. The simulation software he has you use (SAMS) blows.
pompous and condescending attitude
This teacher is holier-than-thou. Makes you feel like you WILL do something wrong and he WILL catch you. Tore into the same student twice during the semester for "using the computer" when his monitor was off. No apology, just said that he will kick you out of the class when he does see it happen.
not terrible, but certainly NOT excellent... Anyone ever notice how paranoid this guy is? that monitoring prog he uses, the whole "can't give away my age" thing... he even locks the door when he's setting up for class... his teaching method is understandable, though.
Bored to Tears in class. Tends to repeat himself often, and goes slow as if we are all in elementary school. A bit parnoid about being on time and watches the clock for that exact second to start class. States his rules about class and then does not follow through.

The class was a piece of cake, but some of the lectures were boring. Reading the book definitely helped. Some of the teacher's jokes are kind of lame but he's a whole lot better than quite a few of the teachers I've had here. His tests were fair and he was helpful to me.

Lectures had a lot of ums and ahs, removing them would greatly reduce there length. I sent 3 emails to ask questions on homework; Mr. Sigler did not give any help and never gave me any credit for 2 assignments. The SAM program he uses for the online course has problems and he says it does not. He complained that I did my homework on the weekends.
Did not enjoy this class at all due to the professor. He was rude by constantly accusing people of "misusing" the computers when they were typing notes or even had their monitors off. He also accused me of cheating which I never did. Also, it seemed whenever anyone asked a question, he either did not know the answer, or changed the subject.
There were about 15-18 "Uhms" per minute. I was bored enough during class to calculate that. He is out to try and catch you doing something wrong to make an example of you. Paranoid of the use of computers, he has moved our class to a room with no computers. The classes seem long and podantic. The + Side it feels like an easy "A" is coming my way.
Professor Sigler has some issues, and I feel sorry for him, but they reflect in his class. He desires (needs?) a lot of control, as if we'll mutiny, & he kinda talks himself up. He could improve by being less wordy ("I know what you're thinking", "um", & incessant, horrible jokes), giving less examples and trivia, and giving some hands-on examples.
Went on and on about useless topics in class.
The class is boring. The quizes are easy. He give a lot of extra credit. I would take this guy if you want a easy A.
Sigler embodies a statement I have never quite agreed with: Those who can't do, teach. Lectures are a miserable experience between the boredom and the pity. At times he seemed to think he was teaching a difficult concept. This guy has wasted at least 40 hours of my life. I'd like them back but I just can't have them. I think he gets off on that.
I have found Professor Sigler to be unresponsive. He fails to respond to emails (on-line class) or provide adequate "homework" feedback.
NOT the teacher to take. I would make the drive to another campus. It was difficult to stay awake during the lectures. He watched the second hand on the clock for start and finish times of class. Not difficult to get an A, but you will not be prepared for any of the higher level classes.
He seems like a nice enough guy although quite insecure. SO boring!! He reads off of the Power Points for the entire class then periodically gives you a 10 question scantron test. If you want to learn anything about computers take someone else. I ended up driving out to Orchard Ridge and aced the course AND learned something useful!
This guy is an horrible teacher,he gave me an 0/25 just because of one mistake. very inconsider rate. I Dont recommend him to any one. he got a student expelled just because she did not referces the site she got information from and the worst part is that: it was not an assignment at all.
Good presentation skills. Class is slow and the content generally doesn't fill the full four hours, but that does give you time for help. Tests are sprinkled with random questions from the books that are not covered in lecture. Assignments are simple. BTW, they can watch your computer screen remotely.
He lectures are boring and slow. He tells you exactly what you need to get an A. The downside is, you must follow what he *thinks* is correct to get that A. So yeah it was an easy A, but I learned nothing.
Sigler SEEMS to have very poor mastery of the subjects he teaches. But he teaches low-level classes that require a very high level of abstraction of what are, in fact, very technical subjects. In other words, it's really easy to mess things up in an attempt to make the subject easy to understand... whether for him or for the student is unclear.
not a very helpful teacher, most of the time you'll get the 'back in the day when i was...' lecture and nothing will be relevant of today's computers which to be honest he'll say he keeps up with current tech but will give out false or quite outdated tech specs and half details. quizzes are easy as heck if you know anything about computing.
Awful teacher. Our group built an awesome document and a prototype website that kicked everyone else's preschool little prototype. Sigler's class format allows for no transperency or explaination of his grading. What Siglers grade says, stays. Don't take any classes with this irrellevant pompus arrogant almost-teacher.
Worst professor I've ever had. He will mark you down for writing code as presented in the assigned reading instead of 'his way'. Constantly stops the class if anyone makes a sound. Avoid his classes if at all possible.
Everything you do is wrong by him, if you take initiative and go farther than what he asked for, he will remove points or not give you any points.
he is an awful teacher.. i don't recall learning anything from him. everything you do is wrong, and when you ask for help he acts like its "the end of the world". i mean i thought i was in college to learn??! AVOID THIS TEACHER!!! all he did for me was lower my GPA! :-(
For some reason I feel he is a good instructor. I retain all he teaches, but when it comes to grading, he's overly-critical and will not work with you on grade discrepencies. Avoid at all costs!
Unwilling to work with grades, would simply give no credit if he didn't like the way a project looked. Refused to meet with students outside of his 1 hour of office time a week.
Professor has alot of issues and isn't a very good instructor. Notes where probably the most helpful, he was not. Has a superiority complex when it comes to grading and he tests you on an intro class to the extreme. I believe he takes pride in failing students to get the campus more funds. I would tell anyone to stay as FAR as you can away from him
worst teacher that occ has.
Worst instructor he is a good programmer i will give him that, but he is a programmer not a teacher. you are expected to memorize everythng which programmers really never do. Exams are also all handwriten no debugging or anything at all which isnt really all the realistic.
He isn't a good teacher at all. He's not helpful and doesn't do a good job teaching. Class is extremely boring and it's hard to stay awake and pay attention. He stands in the front of the classroom and reads off the powerpoint for 4 hours. Everyone was having difficulty even the people that work extra hard.Whatever you do don't take him!!
Takes a class that should be extremely easy and makes it difficult. Avoid this professor. Tests are based off of step by step memorization rather than whether or not one can use the material.
I don't know where to begin. He has some serious issues. Here are some examples of his issues. 1)Never ask a question because he will not answer you. 2)Don't argue with his dicisions, it's waste of your time and you will get expelled for it. 3)Coming to class 5 mins late will result you absence and 0% for inclass work. Avoid at all cost.
He is the absolute worst professor i've ever had. He won't answer any damn questions and acts like we should know everything already. He thinks he is so cool. AVOID HIM.
I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you go to occ and need the gpa for it. Didn't teach what is on the exams.
DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING WITH THIS PROFESSOR. He just reads his powerpoint presentations and most of the time those aren't even accurate. If you learn anything in this class it's because you did it on your own. Tests are unrealisticlly hard where only 1 person in the class didn't fail the 2nd one. Don't email for help, won't respond for couple of days
He does all of the PowerPoints following the textbook examples. When he bouncesback and forth, that means it will be on the test. He just wiped out two questions off one test because nobody got them correct. Awesome!
Today was the last day and I got an A!!!!! I simply paid attention in class, watched all of the PowrPoints and read the textbook. He really knows Java programming :)
He really knows his Java and I am not talking coffee. He can do programming with his eyes closed.
Yeah!!!!!! I passed the final :)
I would suggest that you attend each and every class, take lots of notes, read the textbook, do all the assignments and ask questions for clarification.
I learned a lot
Made intro class impossible. Does not understand his job is to teach, not to see how many students you can make drop the class. If people are dropping your courses, you are effectively eliminating the revenue from offering the course. Spent entire first lecture addressing comments on this site. Very professional.
First he's not a good teacher.A good teacher would walk around the class and see if people have questions. He doesn't want to help. This is an intro class and it never felt like one. He's also very rude and doesn't have a good attitude! He doesn't like answering questions or responding to emails. Unfortunately he's the only one that teaches this class
this teacher seemed to be nice first day he said he would help us anytime of the day. well guess what? he doesnt, his lectures have nothing to do with exams and assignments. i would have rather pay google instead of him. HARDEST EXAM. WORST INSTRUCTIONS. you basically have to teach your self this class. even if you pay attention in class.
First those previous 5 good rating comments are bull crap. He's useless. Doesn't teach. Purposely doesn't respond to emails. Disrespectful and rude. Only way u will pass is if you teach yourself everything. To be a teacher u have to have good teaching skills and a decent attitude. I've never had a more disrespectful professor. Go to another campus
Even while the subject in his 1500 course is straight-forward and easy to understand, Sigler's classroom practice makes it feel like anything but an intro class. He is entirely unhelpful and overly critical. Subjects not in the book or notes comprised 50% of an exam, and were graded as if they were common knowledge. Avoid if you value your GPA.
THIS IS NOT AN "INTRO" COURSE!Horrible experience,Exams are impossible, Plan to spend 15-20 hours outside of class just to pass. massive drops. Gives out multiple assignments everyweek, His lectures are wretched, Disrespectful to students, has favorites, book has no glossary n he has 2-3 definitions. Needs a freight Train Donkey Punch 2 the face
Not a good professor. He will give you little or no credit if there is one small error in your code. He claims that the class is taught at a high school level, and that may be the case, but it is tested and graded as an upper level programming course. He says grades are NOT open to negotiation in the syllabus just so he can fail you w/out question.
If you came on this site because you're debating on whether to take this professor let me save you some time --do not. As you can see the consensus on this site is that he sucks. You'll leave the class no smarter then when you walked in, with a lower gpa and less college money
WORST TEACHER!!! DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE!!
Java is a challenging subject and it takes a certain skill to teach it, the instructor knowing his java isn't enough. I did the reading, reviewed all his notes, went to class every week. took notes, spent hours researching and practicing. If there were expectations not met at the time of the exam, then clearly he didn't convey his knowledge.
I had CIS1500 and CIS2151 with this professor. Before taking this course i new nothing about programming. Now i am very confident in my programming skills, therefore professor did an outstanding job. Considering how hard and complicated Java is,he did everything he could to make it as clear as possible. I'm sorry, but if you are taking Java...
And dont bother reading a book, going over lecture notes or spending at least 50 hours a week on homework assignement, then im sorry, prof. has nothing to do with your unwillingness to learn. This course requres full dedication. So if you are pretty lazy, you might wanna reconsider taking this course or going to school what so ever. Peace.
Great class with a great instructor! Do not take this course if you do not want to put in the effort
This instructor tries to follow the curriculum to prepare you for the Java certification test. So, if you study and work at it, you should be able to pass. Try to pay attention and work a little in class then you will do well in life. It is not easy and should not be.
I know a lot of students don't like him but I think he's very knowledgeable and has a lot to say. He's very strict in his earlier classes but honestly I'm glad in the long run since I actually know how to do stuff. If you really try his later classes are a breeze. This isn't a blow off teacher so stop whining.
The tests are geared toward helping students pass the Java Certification
He's is very knowledgeable but very vindictive. Gave 1 student 33% on a for having 1 wrong input. Another was not allowed to make up in-class work when his parents we're in bad car accident. He misspoke on how to complete an assign, then gave bad grades for it. I'm an A student and had to fight with him every week regarding my grades.
I've never dropped a class before this class. I got deans list last semester yet found his class impossible. He will compare his test to high school level yet I found it more challenging the national EMT registry test. A test proving you can save lives is easier then his but he will call them "high school level". Do not take this teacher!!!
Professor Sigler is a lecturer not an educator. I have taken multiple courses with him(not by choice) and he tends to read through the slides he created each class period without ensuring his students firmly grasp the concepts. His class sizes always dwindle as the semester goes on because students regularly fall behind. Avoid if possible.
Do NOT take Mr. Sigler. lectures are confusing, he clearly gets his material for exams off the Internet (we found exact questions on there later) and grades them wrong. You have to fight to get the grade fixed. Tests are obtuse and only about 5 mc questions long, but still 100 points. Treats students like children. Very rude. Wouldn't take again.
This is an easy class and easy to get an A as long as you submit the work on time. However, the professor himself is very snarky. I had a couple problems and his responses were just basically "sorry, you're out of luck." Do not like the professor himself but, easy class, so if you have to take him its not a big deal.
Not very clear on what is required to turn in
I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and ignored his ratings. DON'T! He is HORRIBLE!! After wading through his awful lectures you think you know how to do the coding but then you go to do the homework and it's a bunch of stuff you haven't seen before! Worst teacher I have every ever had! Avoid at ALL costs!!! A high grade is a C.
Long lectures that did not keep your interest with minimal break time. Professor was ill-prepared and continuously checked the textbook for help. Was not clear on assignment criteria but was very particular in grading assignments. Felt like he didn't know his field of study well enough to teach the class.
His lectures are way too long. You'll get a good grade if you turn in the assignments on time, which i did, but then he returned them to me because of silly details, like adding the date on the header when it wasn't required, and then he would make me do everything again and still take 20% off my grade. That is what messed up my grade. :(
Watch those headers and make them perfect.
He'll tell you his poor ratings are from upset students. Nope, he is just a poor teacher! Reads the powerpoint HE wrote, lectures with many bunny trails, homework comes from the book a tad. But when it comes to taking the tests, you better be able to pull answers out of thin air. He tests on things not taught, but pulled from undisclosed sources!!
He uses software to grade and check papers but the tests are really, really hard
I took this class and learned a lot about Excel. He gave me a certification test too for free which usually costs about $115. If you need Microsoft Certification and he is teaching the course, take it. If you follow the software provided and the instructions you will be prepared for certification. Then, take the certification from him.
Now I have Microsoft Certification because of Ken Sigler
Honestly, he is an awful teacher. His lectures are long and unhelpful; I find myself doing the coding and teaching on my own because it's so bad. Homework is simple, if you know what to do. However, you'll find yourself losing points over small details. He's nitpicky and vindictive with grading. He's unprofessional and just not a good teacher. 0/10
Mr. Sigler is a nice guy, but his lectures are kind of drawn out. He frequently has to check the textbook because he forgot how to do something, which I can kind of understand with the rapid advancement and changes to software, but he clearly could prepare for class better. If you pay attention and do what he asks you'll pass no problem.
This guy has written four books on programming. He is really smart and tries very hard to help everyone in class. Read the textbook, buy one of his books, and it should all go well.
This class is an online class but instead of it being online, you have to sit through lectures that are long and drawn out for no reason other then to fill the time. Tests are broken, they want you to do every task the long way rather then use available shortcuts that most people use.
What he wrote in the assignment wasn't what he actually wanted. He marked me down. After explaining the issue he said "Sorry, I don't change grades". So even when the professor knows he's wrong, he won't fix his own mistakes. FYI: I'm a now a professional software developer. My advice is to stay away from this professor if at all possible.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had, his lectures are long, boring and not needed. He tells you very little on what needs to be done on homework but grades very hard. Any little thing you miss you will get a 0 on the assignment. The exams are very hard, most of the class got around a 60% on all the exams. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS OR U WILL FAIL
Online course. Passed with an A and did all the work in the last week. Taken him for online course twice and got A's in both; taken him for on campus courses twice and got B's in both. He's nice but strict and I like the way he runs his courses.
This teacher is absolutely awful. I do not even use this website but I have never had a teacher as horrible as him so I thought I should share. He is very mean and NOT helpful. If you can stay far far away from him especially if you need this class. His directions are very unclear and when you ask for help he doesn't make them clear.
absolute worst
Get ready to read indeed. You better put at least 50 hours a week into this class with this terrible teacher if you hope to get a decent grade. This teacher will also mark your assignments down for the most trivial of issues. Triple check your submissions and then check them again.
Easily the most boring class I have taken so far. The software used for testing is absolute garbage and will mark you down for something as simple as accidentally clicking the mouse or because you didn't place something within one pixel of where it wanted. I hate these courses that the instructors job is basically done by software.
ASSUMES you're perfect in the previous CIS1500 class but actually you should be ready to code for the things that you learn minutes before you work on in class assignments. Goes bragging through boring theoretical lecture slides. Less focused on coding and how things work out. Very inconsiderate on proper grading.
Kenneth Sigler by far the MOST INCOMPETENT PROFESSOR that I have ever came across. I could type up two pages of what is wrong with him but I only have a few characters to explain. After taking one of his tests, he gave me feedback and it was BLANTENTLY disrespectful! He said he didn't want to hurt my feelings or humiliate me. He is VERY NITPICKY!
worst professor ever. First time ever I've to drop a computer course.
Worst teacher I have ever had in all my high school and college experience. Unsympathetic and relentlessly at grading quizzes and exams. It's been over a year since I took this course. I vividly remember that this professor gives out quiz's and exams that expect you to code a web page off the top of your head, also code's structure and definition
A big NO to whoever is considering to take him as a professor. No no no. just NO.
If you want an easier class take another professor. You work for you grade and he gives no extra credit for the class. Also check your e-mail after every class just in case he emails you about a homework assignment for when you turn it in wrong.
Summarizes the chapter in PowerPoint or is readily available for him through the book. We can read the book oueselves, please improve your teaching method for future students. Go through actual programming examples and actually make sense in learning structural programming. An hour of actual lab coding would be more suitable at this level.
Worst Professor EVER. Do not take him, take any other professor you can find even if you have to wait. He reads all of his information directly from the Power Point. He marks you down for using things he hasn't taught yet, marks you down for not attending class (and occasionally sends you an email). Seriously worst professor in CIS there is.
This instructor uses the textbook almost line by line; so all you really have to do is read the book AND study!
worst teacher i have ever taken. his notes and projects he gives out have nothing to do with exams. the exams are very very complicated. have taken programming since high school. his teaching method is very different from most teachers.
HA. If you want to take a class where you feel smarter than your professor, take this class. Literally the worst professor I have ever had in my college career. He does not know what he is talking about half the time and does not give clear instructions. If you have no choice but to take this class, GOOD LUCK.
A lot of rambling during lectures, continues to elaborate an idea for much longer than needed. Extremely picky with how your code is written. Disrespectful at times where other profs. would be understanding. Very challenging class, if you must take him for Java, good luck.
The teacher works in the field, has written several books, sits on many boards & has years of experience to infuse in the classroom. It is unfortunate when there are students who discount his knowledge and expertise because they want another high school teacher to remind them of due dates, hand deliver assignments and walk them through homework.
Compared to Universities everywhere this class moves at a snails pace. If you come prepared with a general knowledge of at least one language and basic algebra you should be just fine. Without warning his fill in the blank test questions come directly out of the book he assumes you read. He's a tough grader, but he outlines EXACTLY what he expects.
He reads off his power points a lot and goes into depth on things he doesn't test on. Not very helpful, rude when you try to ask him questions. Claims that his class is at a "highschool level" but his test are ridiculously hard. He gives himself good ratings on this website to make himself look better too.
All I have to say is do not take his classes
Each week he goes into great detail on the subject matter, it could put you to sleep but he is very thorough. He follows the textbook exactly and after completing the class you get an official certificate of achievement from Linux! Take it. It is worth it.
Just don't take him. Save yourself the stress. Reads off power points. All of my college professors so far have given a study guide before tests. He gives none, also does not specify what will be on tests. His lectures are so long. No extra credit given whatsoever in this class, which sucks. I would not recommend.
This is a very difficult class but the professor works with you to ensure that you understand all of the material.
This is a tough class, probably the toughest in the program. But this instructor probably gets too much blame. The exams aren't easy, but if you study and read the book, you'll be just fine. There are several homework assignments but they really helped me in preparing for the exams. Read the book, don't skip, and you'll be just find in his class.
This class is all about the exams, you do bad on your exams you fail the class, he does not provide a study guides or specifies exactly what he'll test you on, his fill in the blanks are ridiculous.
This teacher loves to talk so listen He will talk all four hours if you let him But ask questions or for hands on and he will give them to you
Going to Professor Sigler's class was the best part of my week. His lectures were thorough and supported the online textbook. He took the effort to choose in-class hands-on projects and online lab exercises that reinforced the lecture and text and brought the subject to life. Would love to take another class with him.
Hwk? easy. Exams? two parts of exam. Multiple choice?hard. stupidly detailed exam questions. One question asked how many characters fits in an excel cell.I dont think no one cares. Pretty sure they wont go "woah cant type this cuz not enough character space left" while they are are using a Microsoft product
I had him for a 1500 2 summers ago, because I wanted to get familiar with Java. The projects were pretty easy, but the main problem arises in the exams where he provided little to no adequate preparation. There's a difference between making an exam hard due to its content in relation to the material vs. testing arbitrary info that wasn't covered.
He didn't really help students.
This guy teaches like he expects us to get a job imediately after finishing this class. IF you pay attention and partiicpate, he works with you to make sure you understand. IT is worth it in the long run to take this instructor.
I was about to take a final exam earlier because I was gonna be out of town that day but he told me I had to take it on that day because its a certification exam. But I did not care about that certification exam because I am transferring to OU. I begged him to make a noncertificate exam but he said no. Stay away from him at all cost pls.
he is bad professor period
I tried to leave a review but it got deleted. Just don't take him. He knows a lot, but his method of presentation is horrible, and he spends so much time trying to save/renew his public image. I got an A+, yet I do NOT recommend him.
RUN! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO! This professor teaches this INTRODUCTION class as if it is an ADVANCED class. He singles people out in front of everybody in the class even though he doesn't provide the help that's needed. He barley responds to emails so don't expect a response. I wouldn't recommend this professor to anybody!
This is the worst professor I've ever met. If you can take his classes with any other professor, make sure you do. His method of lecture is this: he will spend 3 hours talking through 4 PowerPoint slides, and then give you an assignment that is unrelated. He also doesn't help students. He will make fun of you in class, and is an appalling person.
This professor will take 3 hours talking about his PowerPoint which is all taken from the textbook. The catch is he doesn't explain anything that makes any sense. He will ramble for 20-45 min per slide and when he finishes it's as if he expects you to be a pro at the material. The group project for this Database class is an absolute nightmare.
I usually take these with a grain of salt and give the profs the benefit of the doubt. Do not do that for this guy. Teaches intro classes as if you've been working in the industry for years. The only info youll get is from the books. His lectures are long and disorganized. You only have 4 grades all semester. Just all around awful.
I just failed this class because of Ken Sigler.
Unbelievable, this prof lectures 3 to 4 hours of lectures and they are based on the textbook. He doesn't help any students what so ever. Tests are ridiculous and watch out. He does check our screens so put Chegg or quizlet away, he will terminate the exam if he catches you cheating.
lol he is bad period
This professor is one of the worst I ever had. He is too picky with your coding and makes you comment on everything. He will always pick on something. There's no resubmission and not extra credit as well. He is very vague with instruction for the projects regardless he expects perfection. I will never recommend.
Worse professor I've ever dealt with. Makes fun of students behind their backs, will not provide you with help or feedback on why things are wrong, and refers you to attend tutoring with Teaching assistants rather than trying to help you. "If you don't know everything from my lectures it's your fault and you should take better notes." Appalling.
If you got the option to drop this class, don't even think twice.
The worst teacher and alone helps the students he likes.
Currently taken his class during COVID-19. Refuses to record the lecture, or give access to students to record via zoom. Gave a bs excuse about the school not letting him and having to send the recorded to the school for some other reason which is not true. So have to use third-party software to record sessions. Watching him use his PC is cringe.
Teaches through slides he takes directly from book, any questions you have will go unanswered. When he does give coding exampled he used NOTEPAD.
I'm an IT professional & took this course during COVID to expand my knowledge, and I struggled. Lectures and grading criteria were antiquated. Exams won't allow you to use the IDE to code, so you'll be penalized for syntax errors that you'd otherwise catch. In 2020, I'd fire someone who worked for me and didn't use an IDE to code- it's inefficient.
I took him for V.B. years ago. He was the worst prof. I've run into. He takes a monotone, lecture-based approach to teaching. It was hard to stay interested. He was also very rude to people when technology and submission issues came up. I zipped my file once, and it didn't save anything besides folders. He refused to believe me and took points off.
I am currently taking the CIS 1050 class during the fall semester. At first, I thought the class was a lot. But over the course of the semester, I realized the cases and module's that Professor Sigler is teaching is really important. The audio feedback he gives you is helpful. I enjoy the open lab at the end of class. Where you can ask questions.
To be fair before I complain, if you give his classes your all you can pass. My experience with him was surprisingly hostile, he does not take being asked questions well and commonly lashes out at his students, unless you are one of the two chosen ones. His teaching style is extremely difficult to learn from. Take at your own risk.
Most of the learning will be done from the book, but the lectures may give you a clearer understanding. If youre new to coding, do not take this class. I was new, and he makes the learning curve even harder by marking you down for every syntax error on tests in which he doesnt let you use an IDE. Coding is hard, and he makes it demoralizing.
I would never take his class - horrible. In the whole database class he left the most important SQL concepts to be covered at the end. Grading is tough - expects a lot from students but did not offer enough information to excel. Group project is a joke. I felt I could have learned the DBMS lot more if it was properly taught.
If you want to learn Java, this is the instructor to take as he really knows the material and grades you on the material. Some other instructors do not even care if you learn it but he does.
Dont know where to begin.. this class is hard. Very lecture heavy, the midterm was alright, the final was ridiculous.. there was stuff in there that was either not taught or barely taught.. Gets smart with students at times. If you arent one of his golden students then good luck. If you dont have to take this class then dont take it.
He talks at a speed of one word a second and repeats things often. Took over an hour just to get through the syllabus. If he was a YouTube video, Id watch his lectures at 2.5x speed at least. If youre a slow learner or youre the lowest common denominator in class, you will like him. Otherwise try and get someone else.
He can talk the entire lecture period without giving students any time at all to do hands-on in class which is unfortunate but he really does want everyone to learn Java. I just wish he gave us some time in class to work on the hands-on stuff.
Saw some awesome ratings and had to correct them. Sigler is awful for beginners. If youve never coded before, you will struggle. I had a 4.0 going in, and barely squeaked by with a B+ after EXTENSIVE reading of the book. His lectures are tiresome, and hes quite rude to students who struggle. Marked down for ALL syntax errors. Good luck.
Please do not take this teacher. You will be struggling in class, and he will not help you. You will have to figure things out on your own. He sits there for hours talking. And he does little to help us on the projects, we would have to look things up online and assume that was what he wanted us to do. Drop the class while you can.
Professor Sigler's database class through zoom was an absolute joke. His lectures were awful and when people had questions, he would get angry at them for not comprehending the answer he gave them. Honestly, I schedule my classes out of order to avoid taking another class with Professor Sigler.
Not beginner friendly at all. He does little to actually teach and doesn’t even show examples of how to do different things with Java. Extremely condescending to students, often making remarks about our age and constant remarks equivalent to “back in my day.”
This is not a beginner friendly professor. He does not actually show you how to do anything and expects you to learn completely from the book. In the first three weeks he brought up Java on his own computer once.
Takes almost everything from the book, does not explain or go into depth with examples. Rather shows an example and talks about it than actually going and explaining everything, I studied hard for the final by going off of his suggestion, the problems in the book, and nothing helped coming to the actual final. Do not take classes with him.
This teacher did pretty much nothing in class besides reading from the book, and sent us to our groups to discuss a project he did not create a guideline for despite teaching the class for several years. In a CAD class, we did not use the software for more than 3 months in the class. Several times he hosted a class and did not update the schedule.
Do not take any class with this guy, all he does is open the textbook and read from it he only has shown 2 slide shows that are long af, i dont not recommend u will get bored easily and want to leave. All you have to do for his class is read the text book his lectures suck
The project assignments are a joke; The first assignment he gave to us was the "hardest" out of all of them. Almost a 4 hour lecture each class with 0 hands on learning. His lectures are just him reading out of the textbook and rewriting part of it on the board/notepad. Avoid this professor if you are able to, but if not, then good luck!
This professor really cares that you understand the subject. Ask lots of questions. He will answer all. If you want to learn, take this professor. He has very detailed instructions for all assignments. If you want to just pass with a grade, look for another instructor.
The last comment he/she posted on the ratings is completely false and untrue avoid the professor and take it with someone else you are welcome.
He lectures the entire class meeting but will answer all questions on topic. Ask away, just make sure the questions relate to the topic. He gets frazzled with really off topic or strange questions. Ask for lots of details or even examples of the homework assignments. He is very particular.
the whole grade is based on a group project in which there is no example of the project and he himself said no one ever got an A. No one really knows where to start or what to do because its kind of all over the place. pretty hard for a intro class. I would take it with another professor.
Only reads from the book.... No actual teaching happens besides what you teach yourself from the book. Has 0 structure to his class and gives no guidelines. He assumes you are already a professional. Don't ever take his classes if you are looking to truly learn anything
This professor isn't worth your time. I took CIS1200 Intro to database systems and he is not beginner friendly at all. The lectures are all over the place and he's not good at explaining things. He's also not very clear on his answers when you ask questions, and the rubric for the final group project is confusing. Avoid him if you can.
This professor is worth the time if you want to learn database systems as he follows the textbook exactly. He lectures the entire class. He gives the exact answer BUT do not go for help in from the paraprofessionals as they are useless and do not know anything at all about SQL
I took Leath before and that was awful at least this guy would lecture and answer all my questions
Talks very condescending to students, speaking to them as 12 year old's. Limits when tasks can be started, not allowing students to work ahead. Tasks limited to just one week. No opportunity to work ahead on concepts already familiar. Doesn't present based on current real world work. Blame students for technical issues.
I took this class online winter 2023. It sucks. First project assignment I couln't figure out the formatting of the coding app he made us use so I just summited a java file in the method he told us too. My code was 100% exactly what he asked for and worked and gave the output required in the assignment. He gave me a 5/25.
Attendence is that he randomly takes a photo on zoom and then from all of the pictures if you have your camera turned off in more than 5 of those pictures its a 0/37 for you even thought its a 2 hr class PS. he has metioned to not use course hero or any other website to do project assignments and several kids in our class got caught and got a zero.
Had him twice for two classes, first time he would just read off of slide presentations and was pretty boring. This second class he was better. He ran simulations to teach the class and they were actually helpful. Attendance is not mandatory as it's more of a "at your own pace" type of class.
I took an introduction course with him online, but pretty much taught myself. He says he is available for help, but I did not speak with him much. The class was very easy though, and there's lots of extra credit. Tests are very easy but can have errors. He posts a video lecture but doesnt dive deep in the subject or show examples. It's all on you.
I took him for an introduction class. I pretty much taught myself, but the material was easy. There is a lot of extra credit available and he says he's always available for students, although I didn't really speak with him at all. There were quite a few errors in exams/assignments that he had to fix. Discussions were very easy. Overall, easy class.
The class is challenging, but the professor follows the textbook closely. Lectures can be dry, but he's responsive to questions. Using Unstuckstudy and the practice problems in the book helped me prepare for the exams. Overall, it's a manageable class with the right study strategies.
He really wants everyone to learn so he spends a lot of time trying to ensure everyone learns.
This guy had a bugged question in his exam and denied that it was bugged and told me to just do it again. When I went to in person class, this goon trauma dumped about his two divorces and lectured about nothing. The exams take years to do and are worded very poorly. So if you interpret one detail a different way thats -1 point of your grade.
The test is hard but it is the same exact test for all the CIS 1050 classes, so you could try the test with another instructor but why bother, this instructor will show you how to do everything while following the textbook to a T
His lectures are super boring and he doesn't teach you anything new. He is a CIS professor, but barely knows how to type. IF YOU MISS EVEN ONE SIMULATION OR SURVEY FROM THE HOMEWORK, HE WILL NOT COUNT YOUR EXTRA CREDIT AND ZERO IT OUT. Attendance is not mandatory, as he doesn't bother to learn anyones name. He will also trauma dumps his 2 divorces.
I took his online 1050 class, and it was incredible. The entire semester, my grade never dropped below 100 because he gave out so many extra credit opportunities. He's super organized and responds quickly. I was wary to take his course at first because of his rating on here, but if you have a chance to take his online courses, TAKE IT.
This class was like a rollercoaster. The professor is awful, he doesn't help you at all if you need help even if its a system error. Each week you had a few practice assignments and then the test for the week. Work load per week was about 3-5 hours. The tests are very hard to do and are time consuming. Don't take this class.
